15 Best Things To Do In Labadee Haiti | Cruise Port Guide

Labadee Welcome sign

Labadee is the Royal Caribbean’s private resort destination located on the northern coast of Haiti, within the arrondissement of Cap-Haïtien. Labadee is not an island, as many think! The resort lies on a Haitian peninsula that is leased to Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., for the exclusive use of passengers of Royal Caribbean International.

Labadee is fenced and secured, and guests are not allowed to leave the property. Once in Labadee, you’ll meet locals hired by the Royal Caribbean, and also those allowed to sell their goods at the Artisan’s Market. In this Labadee cruise port guide, I share with you insider information on:

  • Labadee port (getting around the resort, insider tips)
  • Top 15 things to do in Labadee and best Labadee shore excursions

Labadee Haiti Port Overview

Labadee (Haiti) port consists of two docks that can accommodate 2 cruise ships simultaneously (1 berth can accommodate the Royal Caribbean’s largest cruise ships). Normally there is only one cruise vessel at a time in port, but sometimes there are two depending on the ship’s size.

The pier is flat, around 400 m (1315 ft.) long and it takes around 5-10 minutes to reach the entrance to the resort, depending on the walking speed. Wheelchair assistance is provided for guests with wheelchair devices and mobility issues, and there is usually a small cart to take these guests to the entrance of the resort.

When you reach the entrance, you’ll be welcomed by lively local performers and Royal Caribbean staff working in the resort who will show you the directions.

Getting Around Labadee Haiti

Labadee is relatively small and easy to get around, as it’s less than 1 km long (0.5 miles) and half a kilometer wide (0.25 miles). It covers an area of 260 acres, and it takes around 15-20 minutes walk to get from the entrance to the resort to its end. The resort is exclusively designed for cruise ship guests and everything is perfectly organized. The roads and paths are paved and well-marked and there are signs all over the place.

You’ll find Royal Caribbean’s friendly staff everywhere, happy to answer all your questions. The whole resort is accessible and there are beach wheelchairs available, so guests in wheelchairs can easily navigate the area.

You’ll spot a large map of the resort right by the entrance, as well as Information Center , a square where the tram stop is (next to a large wooden colorful chair), and a red building on your right where restrooms are (this area is marked as Dragon’s Plaza on the map below).

If you can’t or don’t want to walk, you can take a free tram at the Dragon Tram Station that will take you to Columbus Cove Tram Station at the end of the resort. There are two stops in between, one at Nellie’s Beach (Barefoot Tram Station) and Town Square Tram Station (where the flea market is). Alternatively, a walk to Columbus Cove will take you around 15 minutes.

Buccaneer’s Bay

Upon entering the resort on your right side you’ll see an area known as Buccaneer’s Bay. There is a shop  where you can buy t-shirts, insect repellents, hats, Royal Caribbean souvenirs, sunscreen, sunglasses, and other practical items. These items are charged to your SeaPass card , so don’t forget to bring it!

Note that everything you purchase or sign up for on Labadee (shore excursions, drinks in a bar, items in Buccaneer’s Bay, umbrellas, activities, and floating mats) will be charged to your Sea Pass card. You’ll need cash only for Artisan’s Market (flea market) if you want to buy things from local people.

At Buccaneer’s Bay, you can also sign up for some cruise line-sponsored shore excursions that will take you outside Labadee (such as Amiga Island escape, snorkeling tours, Paradise Cove, cultural experiences and a tour of the local village, deep-sea fishing, speed boat adventure, etc.), and for the activities such as parasailing and jet ski .

Labadee Restaurants and Bars

There are three open-air buffet-style restaurants in Labadee and the food is complimentary for all guests and crew. The food is the same in all three restaurants and is prepared onboard a cruise ship.

The food is barbecue style and consists of burgers, cheese, sausages, pork ribs, vegetables (corn, beans, salads), hot dogs, rice, fruits, and desserts. Water and a choice of soft drinks are complimentary, too.

The lunch is usually served from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, and you can choose to eat wherever you want. The three restaurants are located in three different areas in the resort (you can see the names of the restaurants on a map above):

  • Dragon’s Café – This is the restaurant that you’ll spot right by the entrance, to your left, next to the Zipline sign-up hut.
  • Café Labadee – This restaurant overlooks Adrenaline Beach, opposite Town Square and the flea market.
  • Columbus Cove Café – Located on Columbus Cove beach, the furthest from the resort entrance.

Guests from suites have the right to use Barefoot Beach Club where they have their own, private beach and a bar restaurant.

As for Labadee bars , there are several bars where you can enjoy signature cocktails, drinks, and beers. There are 5 bars in Labadee:

  • Floating Bar (Adrenaline Beach)
  • Nellie’s Tavern (Nellie’s Beach)
  • Columbus Cove
  • Schooner Bar (Town Square)
  • Dragon’s Breath Pub (right by the entrance).

If you have a drink package , you can use it in Labadee bars. If not, the drinks are charged to your Sea Pass card. Bring some cash if you want to tip a bartender.

Labadee (Haiti) Beaches

There are 3 main beaches in Labadee Haiti and they are all free to access. Every beach has a lot of sunbeds that guests can use for free. If you want an umbrella or a floating mat, these are for an additional charge and you need to sign up for them at the nearest signup hut.

1. Adrenaline Beach

This is the first beach that you’ll see upon entering a resort on your left. Adrenaline beach is the longest beach and you’ll easily recognize it as the zipline goes over it. It is called “Adrenaline” beach due to the waves and rocky bottom (only at one end of the beach), so some parts of the beach are not allowed to swim.

If you continue walking along this beach, you’ll reach an area with dozens of loungers and beach beds where you can swim. There is also a sheltered shallow area where the Floating bar is, one of the most popular bars in Labadee.

Adrenaline Beach Labadee

2. Nellie’s Beach

Nellie’s Beach is very popular with families due to its sandy bottom and shallow waters. It is located on the opposite side of Adrenaline Beach, on the right side of the resort entrance. To reach it, you can either take a free tram (and get off at the first stop) or walk for less than 10 minutes.

Nellie’s beach boasts warm water and you’ll easily identify it by the overwater and waterfront cabanas scattered around. Nellie’s Beach has a lot of shaded areas and gets crowded fast, so go there earlier to choose your preferred spot.

Nellie's Beach Labadee

3. Columbus Cove

It is the remotest beach in Labadee, and it takes a 15-20-minute walk to reach it on foot. You can also take a free tram and get off at the last stop. Columbus Cove is a long beach ideal for kids and families. It boasts an aqua park, a waterslide, a restaurant, and a bar. Here you can sign up for activities such as the Arawak Aqua Park , waterslide , and kayaking . Beach bungalows are located here.

4. Barefoot Beach

This beach is exclusive for suite guests only. The beach is located next to Nellie’s beach and has its own private bar/restaurant exclusively for suite guests.

15 Best Things to Do in Labadee Haiti

I mentioned above that the food, beaches, and sunbeds are complimentary in Labadee for all cruise ship passengers. Additional activities and shore excursions are available for a fee. These are all offered by the cruise line, so you can’t book any activity or excursion with an independent tour operator.

If you are sure that you want to do an activity, I suggest you pre-book it before your cruise as the prices are normally lower. It is also advisable to pre-book it as many activities are quickly sold out due to limited space.

Alternatively, you can book your activities onboard or in Labadee on-site (if you book it on-site, you will be charged on your Sea Pass card once you go back onboard). The prices onboard and on Labadee sign-up counters are the same .

1. Labadee Wave Jet Tour

The jet ski sign-up hut is located at Buccaneer’s Bay, right at the resort entrance. Jet Ski ride usually takes around 1.5 hours and is guided by an instructor. There is limited availability on these tours so I suggest you book it as soon as possible if you want to do the activity.

It’s extremely fun, it allows you to enjoy a beautiful Haitian coast and capture some spectacular shots of the ship. There are lockers and changing rooms available at the Buccaneer’s Bay. Before the activity itself, participants need to fill out the waivers and watch a safety video before receiving safety equipment.

Insider Tip : If you want to do a jet ski, sign up for it in the morning because in the afternoon the activity sometimes gets canceled due to the strong winds.

Labadee Jet Ski Ride

2. Tandem Parasail

The sign-up hut is at Buccaneer’s Bay, next to the jet ski. I also suggest you sign up for it in the morning, because it often gets canceled in the afternoon due to the winds. There are weight restrictions on this activity, and you must sign a waiver before joining it.

3. Labadee Zipline

This is probably the most iconic and adrenaline-packed activity you can do in Labadee! Labadee zipline is the longest overwater zip line in the world and it stretches for 2,800 feet across the bay. The zipline starts 500 feet up the hillside and finishes on land at the opposite side of the bay, next to the Dragon’s Café. Before I tell you more, keep in mind that there are 2 zip lines in Labadee (Haiti) : Dragon’s Breath Flight Line and Dragon’s Fire Flight Line.

Labadee Zipline - Dragon's Breath Flight Line

The main difference is in the position. Dragon’s Breath Flight Line is a seated position, and Dragon’s Fire Flight Line is head-first (flying like Superman). Dragon’s Fire zipline is more extreme, slightly higher, longer (2.800 feet), and only for the brave ones! Dragon’s Flightline sign-up hut for both ziplines is right by the entrance, on your left, next to Dragon’s Café, at Adrenaline Beach. There are two sign-up huts next to each other.

For Dragon’s Breath Flight Line, before the activity, you will receive a safety briefing and do a test ride before embarking on a truck that will take you to the hilltop from where you’ll zip down. For Dragon’s Fire Flight Line, there is no test ride and you go straight to the top of the hill.

The ride normally lasts around 2 minutes (the longest 2 minutes in my life) and is absolutely spectacular! I did Dragon’s Breath Flight Line (seated position) and I absolutely recommend it to anyone who wants to experience some adrenaline rush and (in my case) face their fear of heights.

Lockers are available for an additional fee at the zipline sign-up huts. Weight restrictions apply and a waiver must be filled out before the activity.

Insider tips : The two zip lines are two different activities, they have different briefings and start from different launch platforms. If you want to do it with a group of friends, make sure you all book the same activity at the same selected time.

Bring your GoPro with a strap as there is no professional photographer taking pictures of you. Wear sandals or close-toe shoes. You cannot bring anything on your zipline except for sunglasses, a phone (at your own risk – make sure you keep it secured), and closed-toe shoes.

4. Dragon’s Tail Coaster

Labadee coaster is another must-do activity in Labadee, as it goes through the lush forest and offers unmatched views of Labadee (Haiti) once you are at the top. Dragon’s Tail Coaster sign-up hut is at the end of Adrenaline beach, near Café Labadee and the Floating bar. This activity is suitable for families, as 2 people can ride in one cart (one is the driver, another one is the passenger).

You can sign up for this activity onboard but you can also do it at the resort because there’s always space. You can adjust your speed and brake if it goes too fast. I went on a roller coaster a couple of times and truly enjoyed it, even though I am afraid of heights.

Weight and age restrictions apply, and you need to sign a waiver. Lockers are available at the Dragon’s Tail Coaster sign-up counter.

5. Dragon’s Splash Waterslide

The waterslide is available at Columbus Cove and is mainly designed for kids (it’s not really for adults). A waiver is required to be signed.

6. Arawak Aqua Park

The aqua park is located at Columbus Cove and is an activity designed for kids. There are selected times that you can choose from and there is limited availability. If you purchase a ticket, it is available only for 1 hour. Age restrictions apply, and a waiver must be filled out. Kids under 4 (if memory serves me well) can’t go.

Arawak Aqua Park, Labadee

7. Kayak Adventure

Paddle a kayak along a beautiful Haiti coast onboard double kayaks that start at Columbus Cove. Weight and age restrictions apply, and you get a briefing and a waiver to sign before the activity.

8. Relax in a Cabana, Beach Bed, Beach Bungalow, or Beach Loungers

If you decide to spend a beach day, you can upgrade to one of the beach beds and cabanas for an ultimate stay in Labadee (Haiti).

  • Beach loungers are the cheapest option. They are located on Adrenaline Beach and look like blue-white tents designed for two guests. The price is around $48 per lounger.
  • Beach beds are located at the end of Adrenaline Beach, they offer more comfort and privacy. The price per beach bed is around $175 and includes 2 complimentary floating mats and a cooler with two bottles of water. Each is designed for two guests.
  • Beach bungalows are located in Columbus Cove, they can accommodate up to 6 guests who get 6 complimentary bottles of water and 2 floating mats. They have curtains for privacy and comfortable padded patio-type furniture. The price per bungalow is around $260.
  • Beach Cabanas – There are three different types of cabanas, they can accommodate up to 8 guests each and the price depends on the location (they range from $375 to $595 per cabana). They go from the lowest to the highest: Beach Cabana at Nellie’s Beach, Waterfront Cabana at Nellie’s Beach, Cabana over the water at Nellie’s Beach.
  • Guests in Barefoot Beach Club can book their private Barefoot Cabanas .

Note: For updated prices and availability, check out the Royal Caribbean’s official website  or the Shore excursion desk if you are currently onboard.

9. Amiga Island Escape

This island is one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever been in my life. It is located a 20-30-minute boat ride from Labadee, and you must book a shore excursion to get there (Amiga Island Experience and Island Escape are the two shore excursions that include a stop and free time on the island). The boat ride can be bumpy sometimes.

Amiga Island is secluded and consists of only one bar, restrooms, hammocks, sunbeds, and shaded areas where you can relax. The island is a true gem and small, so you can walk around it in 10 minutes. You can also snorkel in some parts, but make sure you bring your snorkel gear because you cannot rent it on the island.

To get more info about Amiga Island, check out my article 7 Private Islands in the Caribbean to visit on a Cruise

Amiga Island, Cap Haitien, Haiti

10. Labadee Snorkel Safari

Labadee beaches are sandy and not really good for snorkeling. If you want to go snorkeling, you need to book a guided snorkeling shore excursion named Labadee Snorkel Safari that usually departs twice per day (that’s why it’s better to either pre-book it or book it onboard to ensure your spot).

This snorkeling tour will take you to the open sea and stop at two beautiful snorkeling locations where you get to explore the fascinating Haitian underwater sea life. I haven’t done it, but I had dozens of guests coming to provide me with great feedback on a tour. Snorkel equipment is included in this tour.

Insider Tip : Book a morning departure as afternoon departures sometimes get canceled due to the strong winds and waves.

11. Cruise along the Haitian Coast

If you want to enjoy the gorgeous views of Haiti’s mountainous coast, you need to book a shore excursion for an extra fee. Royal Caribbean offers several sailing shore excursions that include fishing, sailing, snorkeling, complimentary food and drinks, sightseeing, adrenaline speedboat ride… There are normally one up to three departures a day for each tour, and I would suggest you always book a morning departure as the afternoon tours sometimes get canceled due to the windy weather.

I suggest you search on the Royal Caribbean official website for availability as not always all the tours are available. If you want to pay a cheaper price, I suggest you pre-book your shore excursion before your cruise to Labadee, and to ensure your spot on a tour – book it onboard latest!

These are some of the shore excursions you can book:

  • A Luxury Sailing Yacht Experience
  • Discover Haiti Coastal Cruise (a sightseeing cruise suitable for guests with walking difficulties!)
  • Paradise Cove and Haitian Village Escape (includes a visit to a local village)
  • Labadee Snorkel Safari
  • Speedboat Ride and Adventure
  • Amiga Island Experience
  • Island Escape
  • Labadee Sport Fishing

12. Haitian Village Sightseeing & Cultural Experiences

If you want to explore the culture and traditions of native Haitians, there are several Labadee shore excursions you can book. Some of them include a visit to a local village, while some include cultural workshops and a stroll around Labadee.

There are usually one to three departures daily, and tours last from 1-3 hours so you can enjoy some time in Labadee afterward. Some of the shore excursions are:

  • Labadee Traditions (visit to a local village, cultural demonstrations, local dance)
  • Paradise Cove and Haitian Village Escape (includes a stop at the secluded cove)
  • Labadee Walking Tour (a 1-hour walk around Labadee resort, on this tour you don’t go to a local village).

Labadee Cultural Workshop

13. Artisan’s Market Shopping Experience

If you want to go shopping in Labadee , you can head toward Town Square and Columbus Cove, and you will soon reach Artisan’s Village and Market, a large area where native people sell handmade clothes, handicrafts, souvenirs, paintings, and much more!

You will need cash to pay for the items you buy from local people, however, if you buy something at a shop at Buccaneer’s Bay, you’ll need a SeaPass card as it is charged by Royal Caribbean onboard. Keep in mind that the local sellers are very pushy – that’s just the way they are and don’t feel obligated to buy something if you don’t want to.

14. Adventure Ocean Oasis

Adventure Ocean Oasis is located in the central part of the resort between Adrenaline Beach and Nellie’s Beach. This area is reserved for the youngest ones, and you can’t miss it as it’s on the main road where the tram stops! It has a water park and kids’ splash zone filled with toys, geysers, fountains, and a “wreck” of a pirate ship.

Adventure Ocean Oasis is free to use for everyone. There is a beautiful park right next to it, with flowers, plants, trees, hammocks, and wonderful views of Adrenaline Beach.

15. Labadee Beaches

Earlier in the article, I wrote about 3 main beaches in Labadee: Adrenaline Beach, Nellie’s Beach and Columbus Cove (and Barefoot Beach for suite guests only). If you decide not to spend any money on Labadee activities, excursions, or shopping, you can simply spend a day at one of the beaches.

Sunbeds are for free, and if you want to upgrade you can rent one of the loungers, beds, bungalows, and cabanas. There is a lot of shade all over the place, enough sunbeds, and all beaches are accessible for wheelchair users.

Wrapping Up

If you are planning a cruise to Labadee, get ready for an ultimately fun day and make sure you plan it ahead so you maximize your stay in the port of Labadee. To wrap up, here is a list of useful insider Labadee tips:

  • Bring your towel from the ship, because there is no towel station in Labadee.
  • Bring some cash if you want to shop at Artisan Market. If you want to purchase other activities, excursions, drinks (in case you don’t have a drink package), and items in the Buccaneer’s Bay shop, it will be charged to your SeaPass card (make sure you bring it with you).
  • Labadee lies within a gated area and is secured by private security. Labadee is safe to walk around, however, always keep an eye on your belongings. It is strictly forbidden to leave the resort area (you are allowed to do so only on a guided shore excursion).
  • You don’t need to bring your passport/photo ID. Bring only your SeaPass card .
  • Lunch is usually served from 11:30 am until 1:30/2:00 pm, so make sure you plan your day and activities accordingly.
  • If you want to book activities and excursions, I highly suggest you book morning departures (especially snorkeling/sailing excursions, jet skiing, and parasailing… ) because the wind picks up in the afternoon and excursions sometimes get canceled.
  • Always check the age and weight restrictions when booking Labadee activities.
  • Local people appreciate tips (street performers, dancers), as well as tour guides. These are not mandatory, though.
  • Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, a waterproof phone case, a camera (for the activities), light clothes, a hat, and sunglasses. You can purchase most of these items in the Labadee shop, however, they are more expensive there. Do not bring valuables with you.
  • There is NO Wi-Fi available in the resort (not even the ship’s internet).
  • Pre-book your activities and shore excursions to ensure you have space on a selected departure time.
  • If an activity/shore excursion is canceled, you will be automatically refunded on board.

Are you planning to visit Labadee, Haiti, on your Royal Caribbean cruise? Find some fantastic shore excursions and things to do while visiting this unique port. Below, we’ve listed the best activities, sights and advice for your Labadee port of call.

The private port of Labadee, Haiti, is leased to Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and is used by cruise ships from Royal Caribbean Cruises and Celebrity Cruises.

You can visit sandy beaches, book water sports activities, or zip down from the top of a mountain at a cruise stop in Labadee, Haiti. So Let’s know about the 15 best things to do in Labadee:

1. Rent Cabanas

One of the first things you’ll want to do on a Caribbean vacation is exploring the stunning beaches. If you want a quiet space to relax and get some shade when you need it, you can rent one of the island’s many cabanas while you’re there.

Adding a comfortable beach chair or bed to the cabana rental makes the space even cosier and helps you feel right at home if you’re seeking a more luxurious experience while relaxing on the beach.

2. Shop at the Artisan Market

Shop at the Artisan Market: Best Things To Do In Labadee

Are you in the mood to go shopping? Then proceed to the Artisan Market to browse through shops selling handmade crafts and presents with fixed rates so that you can shop without bargaining.

The shops around here offer a wide variety of products, including household goods, accessories, apparel, jewellery, and souvenirs.

Find the Artisan Village, which is a part of the market. Here you can get the best deal.

At the Artisan Village, you can negotiate over costs and convince the vendors to offer you a decent deal. Make sure you have cash on hand for the trip because this market area only accepts cash.

3. Enjoy At Adrenaline Beach

The coast of the island is dotted with many beaches but Adrenaline Beach is the best of them all. This beach can get very busy and there’s a good reason why: the swim-up bar.

You can swim up to the bar table in this area and order drinks without ever getting out of the water. You can spend the day relaxing on the sand or in a cabana while listening to the island breeze.

4. Nellie’s Beach

As previously noted, Nellie’s Beach has some beautiful beach cabanas and is an excellent area to grab some instagrammable views of your cruise ship.

Renting a cabana here will include golf cart transportation to the ship, buffet, or other locations. You can hire a floating mat at this beach or go kayaking if you’re feeling more adventurous.

5. Delicious Lunch At Labadee

When your cruise ship arrives at this port, a packed barbeque lunch will be waiting for you on the island. This mini-feast is free for all cruise visitors and includes burgers, hot dogs, chicken, and a variety of side dishes from a massive buffet dinner.

Lunch is provided at a covered picnic table area with ocean views. With a terrific lunch and a fantastic idea, it doesn’t get much better than that!

The lunch service begins at 11 a.m., so organise your other activities to ensure you enjoy the complimentary meal before embarking on a new adventure.

6. Take A Ride on the Dragon’s Breath Zipline

Take A Ride on the Dragon’s Breath Zipline: Best Things To Do In Labadee

One of the most popular things to do on Labadee is to ride on the Dragon’s Breath Zipline. This attraction will take you flying through the air across the island and let you see some incredible views as you ride down the line.

The flight begins at the top of a nearby mountain, where you’ll find a platform to change into your gear and take off. Guides will be on the platform to instruct you on what to do during the ride and ensure you are safe before take-off. On this ride, you can get up to speed fast and reach up to 50 mph, so hold on to your hats!

7. Take the Ferry To Columbus Cove

You want to spend enough time at the beach and enjoy it to leave the Caribbean. At Columbus Cove Beach, you can spend time in the sun without the crowds.

This beach is located on the island’s far side, and most people want to do something other than the long hike to get there. However, with a complimentary ferry ride to the area, you can get there in less time and hit the water more quickly.

Read Also: 10 Best Cheap Caribbean Vacations: Best Time To Visit In 2023

This beach has fewer people than others on the island and is an excellent spot for those who want to put their feet up and read a book while breathing in the fresh sea air.

Quite a few excursions and attractions are offered here, keeping the noise level low, but be on time, so you don’t have to return to the ship before it’s off to the next destination!

8. Adrenaline Ocean Oasis

Adrenaline Beach is a kids’ paradise located in an area that will blow your kids away. The place is equipped with fountains, geysers, and water guns, allowing kids to splash around without worrying about adults getting wet.

Kids can play under the supervision of the ship’s kid’s program, Adventure Ocean, and have a fun day while you keep an eye on them from the comfort of your cabana or beach chair. Or, if you’re keen to join in the fun, you can feel like a kid again and run through the fountains too!

9. Dragon’s Splash Waterslide

Have you ever slid down a massive waterslide with a view of the Caribbean Sea? If not, this is an attraction you should add to your Labadee itinerary. Walk through the forest to see the dragon’s head before sliding down the 300-foot slide and flying into the large splash zone.

Take pictures of your friends and family as they fly out the bottom of the slide and land in the water while you watch others go down the long slide. Yet, whether you choose to slide down or watch other group members descend, you will almost certainly get wet if you are near the splash zone.

10. Ride the Dragon’s Tail

Ride the Dragon’s Tail

Like many other attractions on the island, this roller coaster has a dragon design, and the ride will transport you to the Middle Ages. The twists and turns of this coaster will whip you back and forth as if you were clinging to the back of a moving dragon’s tail. You’ll view the trees and the ocean on an excursion along the mountainside.

When you reach the top of the ride, you can look over the surroundings and witness the island’s best view. Then you’ll have a lovely descent down to the end of the route, where you’ll ride 30 miles per hour.

Children between the ages of 5 and 11 are only allowed to ride if attended by a guardian. Children under the age of five are not permitted to ride.

Those with long hair must also have a hair tie or scrunchie to keep their hair back, or they may be denied access to the ride.

11. Arawak Aqua Park

The only iceberg in the Caribbean is visible from the ocean. This one is inflatable and offers climbing holds for your hands and feet. It is part of the Arawak Aqua Park. This inflatable water park has several blow-up structures that float on the water’s surface, allowing youngsters to climb up and explore without getting too far out.

There’s also a rolling log where you may test your talents and a floating trampoline where you can jump in the water. A water slide is also available for individuals looking for a lesser version of the Dragon’s Tail Coaster without the high speeds.

This place is perfect for both young and old children, and both can enjoy the park for an hour for $15 per ticket.

But you should be aware that this trip has age and height restrictions that will prevent youngsters under seven and those under 48 inches tall from enjoying this park. Those under 18 must also have a guardian with them for their excursion.

12. Take a Speedboat Tour

Do you want to check out the island at a brisk pace for a heart-pumping excursion? Then, a speedboat tour would be perfect for you. This tour will take you along the island’s coast, not only the peninsula of Labadee but also the island of Hispaniola. You are overlooking local villages, Amiga Island, and Akul Bay.

This speedboat leaves directly from the shores of Labadee and will drop you back in the same area, so you’re close to the port.

The tour will continue for about 45 minutes before you are taken back to the island, and the boat will reach high speeds, so make sure your luggage is secure on the boat, so you don’t lose anything on the way.

13. Wave Jet Tour

Wave Jet Tour: Best Things To Do In Labadee

If you’re ready to strike out in Caribbean waters, booking a Wave Jet Tour for your shore excursion is an excellent option for you and any other adventure-seeking guests. After a 30-minute information and safety session, you’ll steer your jet ski into the open water for 50 minutes of pure freedom.

You can whip, turn and zoom in on the open ocean and give yourself a thrilling ride that you will not forget with this wave jet tour. And, if you ever need anything during the ride, trained instructors and guides will be on hand to provide everything you need.

This tour is not for the faint of heart and is not designed for children either. Those under the age of 16 are not allowed to participate.

So, if you have kids with you, ensure they have a guardian to stay with them while you’re on your jet ski before heading out. In addition, alcohol is not allowed around jet skis, and riders are not allowed to drink alcohol before driving. If they are seen doing so, they will not be allowed to go on tour.

14. Caribbean Kayaking

Getting a closer look at the island is pretty cool, but one of the best views in the Caribbean is from the water. You’ll see the entire island with mountains and beaches from a kayak at once. With Kayaking Adventure, you can ride along the water and view the island from the beach while paddling.

Accompanied by informed guides, you will learn about the rich history of the Haitian people and see where historical events took place all around the land while descending through the water. You’ll also be able to shop at the artisan market and pick up some jewelry, clothing, or homemade, handmade items to take home.

The tour will end with a beach stop for a relaxing end to an exciting day. Spend the rest of the time laying on the warm, white sand on the shore, or dip your toes into the clear waters and take a dip.

15. Luxury Yacht Adventure

best labadee excursions

Living in the lap of luxury is not an option for everybody, but with a luxury yacht experience in Labadee, you can feel as rich as you are in your dreams. The yacht is a large boat that will take a group of guests into the open waters of the Caribbean, with drinks available onboard for the ride.

Relax on comfy chairs while you watch the waves go by until you hit the stop, where you can go snorkeling or hop in the water with a pool noodle. Whether you want to splash around in the water or stay on the boat, you will have a great time on this luxurious yacht as you listen to music and drink a beverage.

The trip will last three hours and give you plenty of time to get some sun, look at the sea life, and get back to the shore.

Information About Labadee Port

The cruise ships that visit Labadee dock at the island’s northernmost pier. Although the region is typically called a private island, the correct term is peninsula.

Labadee is a private area reserved only for cruise ships, and passengers are not permitted to leave the safe limits of the fenced-in region. The port has extensive activities and excursions, most within walking distance of the pier.

If you want to go further afield, a tram will take you to other locations. Each spot is signposted, much like a bus stop, making it easy for cruisers to see the stops and get to and from their tour or excursion. Alternatively, boarding the ferry will get you there the quickest if you’re going to the farthest beach.

If you ordered a beverage package from Royal Caribbean for your cruise, you could use it in Labadee.

Where is Labadee?

Labadee is a port of call on Haiti’s north coast that Royal Caribbean International has privately leased as an exclusive destination.

Cruise passengers can explore the fenced-in private resort area when they visit Labadee, but excursions do not extend beyond it. Private tours are not available. However, Labadee is not a private island but part of Haiti’s mainland.

Labadee is a port of call for both Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises. Independence of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas, Grandeur of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas, Grandeur of the Seas, and Harmony of the Seas are currently visiting the port (though not on all sailings). This is subject to change at any time.

17 Top Things to Do in Labadee Haiti: 1-Day Port Guide

' src=

If you’re researching Caribbean cruises that visit Labadee Haiti, you’re in for a treat. There are many great things to do in Labadee, from relaxing at Adrenaline beach to flying over the water on one of the longest zip lines in the Caribbean.

Labadee is one of Royal Caribbean’s private destinations, on a peninsula in Haiti. It has great white sand beaches, a couple thrilling activities, and a ton of natural beauty.

I’ve been on dozens of Caribbean cruises and visited Labadee a couple times. Keep reading for a list of all the free and paid things to do in Labadee and my recommendations for how to spend your port day.

Some links on this blog are affiliate links, meaning I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you if you make a purchase through them. All opinions are my own, and I only recommend products and services I personally use and believe in. Thanks for your support!

Free Things to Do in Labadee Haiti

1. adrenaline beach.

A tranquil beach scene with clear blue skies and calm waters, featuring a wooden swing set on the sandy shore in the foreground and a charming floating bar surrounded by rocks in the distance, under the serene embrace of palm trees.

The number one thing to do in Labadee is spend the day at Adrenaline beach. There are two main reasons this is my top choice: it’s free and it’s the best beach at the resort.

Adrenaline beach is the largest beach, and runs the full length of one side of the peninsula. Since the beach is so long, you can have a completely different experience depending on which part you visit.

I recommend walking all the way to the far end of the beach. Here, you will find a floating bar (pictured above), a couple beach bars, a covered bar, and tons of lounge chairs.

The far end of the beach is also close to a buffet for lunch and the artisan market if you want to do some shopping.

Although some parts of adrenaline beach can be wavy, the far end is in a protected cove which is perfect for swimming. This area is also less rocky than other parts of Labadee.

Finally, Adrenaline beach is directly below the Labadee zipline, so it’s fun to watch people zip by.

2. Nellie’s Beach

A vibrant beachfront lined with brightly colored sun loungers and umbrellas on golden sands, with lush greenery in the background and a lifeguard stand to the left, under a cloudless blue sky.

My second favorite beach in Labadee is Nellie’s cove. It’s the smallest, but has a ton to offer. This is the most protected beach area, which is good for young kids.

There are also private cabanas on this beach that are perched in the rocks, overlooking the beach. These are an extra charge, but if I were to rent a cabana, I would choose one at Nellie’s beach.

The disadvantage to Nellie’s beach compared to Adrenaline beach is there are less nearby amenities. In addition, I prefer the open ocean view from Adrenaline beach to the view of the port you get at Nellie’s.

3. Columbus Cove

A picturesque view from the shade under a beach umbrella, showing a row of white and blue sun loungers on the sandy shore, with tropical palm trees and a dense hillside of verdant foliage in the background, beside a tranquil turquoise sea.

Many people rate Columbus Cove as the #1 beach at Labadee. It’s the farthest from the ship, which leads to the smallest crowds. It also has soft sand and calm water for swimming.

Based on all the other blog posts I read, we initially started the day at Columbus Cove. However, we quickly moved to Adrenaline beach, which I much preferred.

My biggest issue with Columbus Cove is the view. From the beach, you have a view of the ship, waterpark, and a bunch of fishing boats and jet skis. The view felt very cluttered and detracted from my vision of a relaxing beach day.

4. Barefoot Beach (suite only)

From everything I’ve read, Barefoot Beach is the best beach in Labadee. However, it is restricted to Pinnacle Crown and Anchor members and suite guests.

I was neither of those things during my most recent visit, so I can’t speak directly to the quality of this beach.

5. Explore the Nature Trails

A serene nature path shaded by leafy green trees, leading to a wooden footbridge with a railing, over rugged terrain and white rocks, inviting a walk through a tranquil, sun-dappled environment.

One of my favorite things about Labadee compared to other private destinations, like Cococay, is how it incorporates the natural aspects of the destination.

Instead of being industrialized, Labadee is constructed around the hills, jungle, ruins and natural landscape of Haiti.

The best way to explore the natural part of the island is on the paved nature trails. There are three different paths you can take of varying lengths, that are color coded for easy navigation.

However, I prefer to simply wander them, seeking out good views and photo opportunities. I recommend exploring the trails when you first arrive in Labadee, before it gets too hot.

6. Shopping at the Artisan Market

best labadee excursions

In addition to showcasing Haiti’s natural beauty, Labadee also does a decent job of showcasing the local culture. At many private destinations, you won’t interact with a single local person.

At Labadee, you can visit the Artisan Craft market, which is run by local Haitian people. They sell a variety of handcrafted art and souvenirs.

Many people complain that the vendors are pushy. However, I found them to be very kind and helpful. Remember, you are visiting their home and they are simply trying to make an honest living.

It is standard to barter for goods, so expect to reduce the starting price by around 20-30%. This is a great place to purchase a meaningful memento of your trip.

Excursions in Labadee (extra cost)

[HD] Dragon's Breath Zipline - Zip Line over Water - Labadee, Haiti

1. Dragon’s Breath Zipline

One of the most iconic and unique things to do in Labadee is the Dragon’s Breath Zipline. It’s the longest overwater zipline in the Caribbean, and will reward you with amazing views.

The excursion starts on the practice course where you will learn how to zipline, get a safety briefing, and try out a short zipline.

After practicing, you will be transported up to the big Zipline at the top of the hill. You can either go in a sitting or a superman position and will soar over the Haitian jungle, beach, and Caribbean ocean.

If you like a thrill, this is my top recommendation for a paid excursion in Labadee.

How much does the Labadee Zipline cost?

The cost of the zip line in Labadee is constantly changing and can vary from one trip to the next. To give you a general idea, the zipline typically costs around $100 per person.

In my opinion, this is expensive for a short excursion, but is definitely worth it to some. You can usually save some money by pre-booking the excursion before you cruise departs.

How long is the zipline in Labadee?

2,600 feet (792 meters)

2. Dragon’s Tail Roller Coaster

Danny & Taylor Ride Dragon's Tail Coaster POV 4K | Labadee, Haiti | Royal Caribbean Cruise

Another fun and thrilling excursion in Labadee is the Dragon’s Tail Roller Coaster. This is a one-person mountain coaster that zips through the Haitian Jungle.

You control the speed of your ride with a manual handbrake. Most people think they will not use the brake for a more thrilling ride, but often get too scared and end up using it.

Whether you want to go fast or slow, the coaster is a short and fun activity during your day in Labadee.

How much does the Labadee coaster cost?

Approximately $35 per person

3. Arawak Aqua Park

A lively aqua park off a sandy beach, featuring floating slides and platforms under thatched umbrellas, with recreational boats moored nearby, all set against a backdrop of rolling hills and a clear blue sky.

This waterpark is located between Columbus Cove and Nellie’s beach. It has floating obstacles, trampolines, and water slides.

I personally don’t think this is worth your money, but may be a good option for families with children that have extra energy to burn.

4. Dragon Splash Waterslide

Nearby the aqua park is a waterslide that starts in the jungle and ends along the beach. The waterslide is pretty short and nothing special, so I’d skip this one.

If you’re hoping for a fun water park experience, I recommend the thrill waterpark at CocoCay or resorts in Nassau during other port stops.

5. Snorkel Tour

It is possible to rent snorkel equipment in Labadee. You can also bring your own from home.

While there is decent snorkeling in Labadee, I recommend saving it for better snorkeling ports such as Roatan Honduras or Cozumel Mexico . You will see much better sea life in those places.

6. Jet Ski Rentals

I love any excuse to get out on the water and I think Jet Skis are a great way to do it! The Labadee jet ski rentals are for one hour, which is the perfect amount of time to explore the peninsula and get some thrills.

The jet skis also provide a great vantage point of Labadee, with plenty of amazing photo opportunities.

7. Kayak Rentals

For a slower approach to water exploration, you can rent Kayaks in Labadee. This is another great way to explore the water, get great photos, and even get some exercise.

8. Cabana Rentals

A secluded beach cabana with a yellow umbrella, offering a private slice of paradise with comfortable seating, nestled among lush greenery and rugged rocks, providing a perfect spot for relaxation by the sea.

For an extra charge, you can rent private cabanas and daybeds in Labadee. They are a splurge, but provide a nice “home base” during your port day.

My favorite cabanas in Labadee, pictured above are at Nellie’s beach and are tucked back into the jungle. They are also only steps from the water, which is very convenient.

Are cabana rentals worth it in Labadee?

There are three main reasons I recommend renting a cabana during a beach vacation. The first reason is to not stress about finding a beach chair. In Labadee, there is only ever one cruise ship in port, so it’s always easy to find a normal beach chair.

The second reason is to have added shade or space. This is a great option with young kids or infants that can’t be in the direct sun all day, and definitely makes the rental worth it.

The final reason is to celebrate a special occasion with a more bougie experience. If you’re looking for an elevated experience, a cabana rental is a great way to do it! The seating is better quality than a beach chair and you will get improved service.

How much do cabanas cost on Labadee?

As with most added charges on Labadee, the cost of cabanas on Labadee varies by sailing and changes often. Expect to pay between $250-$800 for a cabana rental for one day.

Food and Drink in Labadee

A lively beach bar with a rustic charm, featuring a thatched roof, bamboo accents, and unique hanging lanterns, with patrons enjoying the ambiance and colorful mural art, creating a cozy tropical atmosphere.

There are a couple buffets and many bars in Labadee, so you will have all you food and drink nearby during your Labadee Port day.

All the buffet food is included with your cruise fare. Some of the items on the buffet include jerk chicken, burgers, hotdogs, salads, fruit, and desserts.

Honestly, I didn’t love the food at Labadee and would consider going back on board for lunch. But it’s hard to beat free food only steps away from your beach chair, so the buffet is great for convenience.

Does my Royal Caribbean drink package work in Labadee?

If you purchased a drink package for your Royal Caribbean cruise, it will work at Labadee. It will include the exact same things it would on the ship.

If you don’t have a drink package, you can purchase drinks from the bars a la carte. Expect to pay the same prices as aboard the ship.

Getting Around Labadee

A tourist shuttle decorated with vibrant graphics meanders through a sandy path shaded by lush trees, providing a convenient mode of transport for visitors exploring the sun-drenched tropical landscape.

My preferred way to get around Labadee is on foot. There are walking trails all around the resort and it’s not very large. I can easily walk from one end to the other in around 15 minutes.

There are also shuttles that will take you around which are a great option for elderly, people with mobility issues, families with young kids, or especially hot days. The stops are clearly marked and the trams come often, so you won’t have to wait long.

Labadee Versus CocoCay

GPT An aerial view of a serene port in Labadee, showcasing the clear blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, with a dock extending into the water, surrounded by lush green hills and a tranquil beachfront, under a bright blue sky.

Royal Caribbean has two private destinations: Labadee, Haiti and CocoCay, Bahamas. You might be wondering which is better.

The unhelpful answer is that both are great. Someone once said that CocoCay is better for families and Labadee is better for adults, and I’d have to agree.

If you want a resort feel, CocoCay wins. If you want a more local beach day, Labadee wins. Below are the ways each destination succeeds:

How Labadee is Better:

Less Crowds – Labadee only ever has one ship in Port, which CocoCay typically has two. This means Labadee is far less crowded and it’s always easy to find a lounge chair.

More Nature – Labadee is surrounded by the natural beauty of Haiti and has nature trails to explore it. CocoCay feels much more commercials.

Better Culture – The artisan market at Labadee is much larger than the craft market you can find at CocoCay.

How CocoCay is Better:

Better Food – I love the shack chicken sandwich and other food options at CocoCay. I was disappointed by the food at Labadee and wish it would adopt the CocoCay menu.

More Activities – CocoCay has more things to do, such as the pool, adults-only area, thrill waterpark, and Coco beach club. If you’re looking to do more than relax on the beach, CocoCay has better options.

Quick History of Labadee Haiti

Labadee, located on the northern coast of Haiti, is a beautiful spot with a unique history. This area, leased by Royal Caribbean International , is a private resort that’s a bit of a hidden treasure in the Caribbean.

Labadee got its name from Marquis de La Badie, a French settler who lived there in the 17th century. I love that the name ties back to the destination’s history.

Today, Labadee is known for its gorgeous beaches and exclusive feel, but it’s also a place that reminds us of Haiti’s rich history.

Haiti was the first country to become independent in a revolution led by black people, breaking free from French rule.

Even though Labadee is now a luxurious getaway, it still holds onto its historical roots. It’s a great place to visit if you want to enjoy stunning natural beauty while also getting a sense of Haiti’s important past.

16 Things to Do in Labadee, Haiti on Your Cruise

Guest Post

On a cruise stop at Labadee, Haiti you can hit the sandy beaches, book water sports activities, or take zip line down from the top of a mountain.  Let’s cover some of the basics of this cruise port first.

Labadee Port Info

oasis of seas in labadee

Labadee is a private area just for cruise ships and cruisers are not allowed to leave the safe confines of the fenced-in area. The port offers a wide variety of attractions and excursions and most are within a quick walking distance from the pier.

If you would like to travel further out, there’s a tram that is available to take you to different areas. Each area is marked, much like a bus stop, which makes it easy for cruisers to see the stops and be able to get to and from their tour or excursion easily. Or, if you are heading to the farthest beach, then taking the ferry will get you there the fastest.

If you purchased Royal Caribbean’s beverage package for your cruise, you can use it while in Labadee.

1.      Rent Cabanas

labadee cabana

When you’re on a vacation in the Caribbean, one of the first things you will want to do is check out the lovely beaches. While you’re there you can rent one of the island’s many cabanas so you’ll have a private area to kick back and stay out of the sun when you need some shade.

If you’re looking for a little bit more of a luxurious experience while lounging on the beach, then adding a comfy beach chair or bed to the cabana rental can make the place even cozier and make you feel right at home on the beach.

2.      Shop at the Artisan Market

Colorful Artisan’s Market in Labadee, Haiti. #labadee #haiti #artists https://t.co/9wajDGb5Oo pic.twitter.com/auBmho6MLN — Jeff Sheehan- Influencer | Author | Speaker (@jeffsheehan) January 19, 2017

In the mood for some shopping? Then head on over to the Artisan Market and browse through stores of handmade gifts and items that have fixed prices for a no-haggle shopping experience. The stores here sell everything from jewelry, clothing, and souvenirs to household goods and accessories.

If you want to get the best deal and don’t mind negotiating over the price tag, then find the Artisan Village, which is apart of the market. Here, you can haggle over prices and get the sellers to give you a good deal with a little negotiation. This market area only accepts cash, so make sure you have some on you for the trip.

3.  Adrenaline Beach

There are many beaches that line the coast of this island, but one of the best beaches to check out is Adrenaline Beach. Although this area can get quite crowded, there is a good reason why; the swim-up bar.

This area allows you to swim up to the bar table and order drinks without ever having to leave the water. You can rent a cabana or lay out on the sand for the day and just listen to the island breeze.

4.  Nellie’s Beach

nellies beach labadee

Nellie’s Beach offers some great beach cabanas as mentioned above and is a good spot to get some instagrammable shots of your cruise ship as well.  By the way, if you do rent a cabana here it will include golf cart transportation to the ship, buffet, or many other places you might like to go.  You can rent a floating mat at this beach or do some kayaking if you’re feeling more adventurous as well.

5.      Labadee Lunch

labadee haiti cruise port

With your cruise ship docking in this port, you will have a full barbeque lunch waiting for you on the island. This mini-feast is free to all visitors from the cruises and offers burgers, hot dogs, chicken, and multiple side dishes of a large meal that is served buffet-style.

The lunch is served at a covered picnic table area that looks out onto the ocean. With a great meal and an amazing view, it doesn’t get much better than that!

The lunch begins serving at 11 a.m. so plan your other excursions around that time to ensure that you get to dig into the free meal before heading off on a new adventure.

6.      Dragon’s Breath Zipline

zipline in labadee

By far, one of the most popular things to do on Labadee is to take a ride on the Dragon’s Breath Zipline. This attraction will take you soaring through the air across the island and lets you see some incredible views while riding down the line.

The flight begins at the top of a nearby mountain where you will find a platform to change into your gear and take off. Guides will be at the platform to instruct you on what you do while you’re on the ride and will make sure you are secure before take-off. You can gain speed quickly and hit 50 mph on this ride, so hold onto your hats!

7.      Take the Ferry To Columbus Cove

You don’t want to go to the Caribbean without spending an ample amount of time at the beach. At Columbus Cove Beach, you can get your time in the sun without the crowds. This beach is located on the farthest side of the island, as most people don’t want to take the longer walking trip to get there. However, with a complimentary ferry ride to the area, you can get there in less time and hit the water sooner.

This beach has fewer people than others on the island and is a great place for those who just want to put their feet up and read a book while breathing in the fresh sea air. There are few excursions and attractions offered here, which also keeps the noise levels down, but keep track of time so you don’t end up having to rush back to the ship before it takes off for the next location!

8.      Adrenaline Ocean Oasis

Nestled in an area of Adrenaline beach lies a kid’s paradise that will blow your children away. This place is equipped with fountains, geysers, and water guns, and gives kids a place to splash away without worrying about getting an adult around them wet.

The kids can play under supervision from the ship’s kid’s program, Adventure Ocean, and have a fun day to themselves while you keep an eye on them from the comfort of your cabana or beach chair. Or, if your willing to join in the fun, you can feel like a kid again and run through the fountains too!

9.      Dragon’s Splash Waterslide

Have you ever slid down a huge waterslide while looking out onto the Caribbean Ocean? If not, then this attraction is one that you need to add to your Labadee itinerary. Hike through the forest and emerge to see the head of the dragon before you slide down the 300-foot slide and fly into the large splash zone.

Watch others make their way down the long slide and take pictures of your friends and family as they fly out the bottom of the slide and land in the water. However, whether you are choosing to slide down, or you just want to watch other members of your group go, you will likely get wet if you’re anywhere near the splash zone.

10.      Ride the Dragon’s Tail

Like many of the other attractions on this island, this roller coaster has a dragon theme, and this ride will make you feel medieval. The twists and turns of this coaster will have you whipped back and forth as if you’re holding on to the back of a real dragon’s tail while it is moving around. With a trip that will take you along the side of the mountain, you’ll see the forest and the ocean.

Right as you get to the top of the ride, you will look out over the scenery and get to see the best view on the island. Then, you will have a nice drop where you will ride at 30 miles an hour down to the end of the ride. Kids that are between 5 and 11 years old are permitted to ride only if they have a guardian with them. Kids under 5 years old are not permitted to ride.

Also, those with long hair will need to bring along a hair tie or scrunchie to hold their hair back or they will not be allowed on the ride.

11. Arawak Aqua Park

Out on the waters of the Caribbean, you can see the only iceberg around. This one is inflatable and has holds for your hands and feet to climb on and is part of the Arawak Aqua Park. This inflatable water park features multiple blow-up structures that float on the surface of the water that kids can climb up on and explore without being too far out in the water.

There is also a rolling log that you can try your skills at and a floating trampoline that allows you to jump on the water. There is also a water slide for those who want a smaller version of the Dragon’s Tail Coaster without the high speeds. This area is great for young children and older kids alike and both can get a chance to use the park for an hour for $15 a ticket.

However, you should know that there are age and height limitations on this excursion that will keep children under the age of 7 and those who are not 48 inches tall from enjoying this park. Also, those under the age of 18 will need to have a guardian nearby for the duration of their adventure.

12. Take a Speedboat Tour

Want to check out the island at fast speeds for a heart-pumping excursion? Then, taking a speedboat tour will be the perfect thing for you. This tour will take you along the coast of the entire island, and not just the peninsula of Labadee, but the island of Hispaniola itself. With looks at the local villages, Amiga Island, and Acul Bay.

This speedboat leaves right from the coast of Labadee and will return you to the same area, so you are not far from the port itself. The tour will continue for about 45 minutes before taking you back to the island, and the boat will reach high speeds, so make sure that your stuff is secured on the boat so you don’t lose anything on the way.

13. Wave Jet Tour

If you’re ready to strike out on your own in the Caribbean waters, then booking a wave jet tour for your shore excursion is a good choice for you and any other adventure-seeking guests. After a 30-minute information and safety session, you will drive your own jet ski into the open waters for 50 minutes of pure freedom.

You can whip, turn, and zoom off into the open sea and give yourself a thrill ride you won’t forget with this wave jet tour. And, if you ever need anything while you’re riding, there will be trained instructors and guides around for whatever you need. This tour is not for the weak at heart, and it is also not designed for children. Those under the age of 16 are not allowed to participate.

So, if you have children with you, make sure that they have a guardian to stay with them while you’re on your jet ski before you head out. Also, no alcohol is allowed around the jet skis, and riders are not permitted to drink any before driving. If they are seen doing so, they will not be let onto the tour.

14. Caribbean Kayaking

Getting to see the island up close is great, but one of the best views in the Caribbean is from the water. From a kayak, you will see the entire island with the mountains and beaches all at once. With a kayaking adventure, you can ride along the waters and take in the sight of the whole island from the coastline while you paddle at a leisurely pace.

With informed guides leading the way, you will learn all about the rich history of the Haitian people and see spots where historical events took place around the land as you wade through the waters. You will also be able to shop at the Artisan Market and pick up some pieces of jewelry, clothing, or household handmade items to take home with you.

The tour will end with a stop at the beach for a relaxing end to an exciting day. Spend the rest of the time on the shore laying on the warm, white sand, or dip your toes in the clear waters and do for a dip.

15. Labadee Snorkeling

Getting the opportunity to see the Caribbean Ocean from under the surface is an interesting way to spend your day at the shore. With a snorkeling guide to show you where there are creatures and coral reefs that you’ll want to check out, you can have an amazing snorkeling experience at the Labadee island.

There are many different kinds of fish and sea life that you can get to see around the reef and with a guide to tell you where to look to find the most creatures, you’ll get to find many along the way. After quick instructions from your guide, you will be fitted for your snorkeling equipment and head out into the waters.

This excursion will allow all ages on the boat, but only those who are able to handle their own equipment will be allowed snorkeling in the water. There are drinks and snacks available on the boat for the ride to the snorkel spot but guests who will be consuming alcohol must have a valid ID.

16. Luxury Yacht Adventure

Living in the lap of luxury is not an option for everybody, but with a luxury yacht experience in Labadee, you can feel like you’re as rich as you are in your dreams. The yacht is a large boat that will take a group of guests for a trip into the open waters of the Caribbean with drinks available onboard for the ride.

Relax on comfy chairs while you watch the waves go by until you hit the stop where you will be able to go snorkeling or just hop in the water with a pool noodle. Whether you want to splash around in the water, or just stay on the boat, you will have a great time on this luxurious yacht as you listen to music and drink a beverage.

The total trip will last three hours and will give you plenty of time to get some sun, look at the sea life, and get back to the shore.

Labadee Haiti: best cruise excursions

Labadee, Haiti: My Royal Caribbean Shore Excursion

Caribbean , Travel | December 3, 2019

On my recent press trip on Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas in the Western Caribbean, a lot of the fun I had was – surprisingly – on sea days. But we also had three terrific port days during the action-packed seven night cruise.

Our first stop was Labadee, Royal Caribbean’s privately owned peninsula on the north coast of Haiti. This beach resort really is like a paradise island. I wouldn’t have minded being left there!

Labadee excursions on a Caribbean cruise

The shore excursions in Labadee can be pricey but this is the one port in the Western Caribbean where even anxious cruisers can relax and skip the excursions in favour of unwinding on the beach if they want to.

One of the major perks of booking a shore excursion on any cruise is the guarantee that you’ll be taken back to the ship on time, but in Labadee you can’t possibly miss back on board time. Like, even if you try your hardest to stay stranded in paradise.

All of the staff onshore are employed by Royal Caribbean so if they see you loitering too close to the time you need to be back on board, they’ll tell you to get a move on!

The best shore excursions in Labadee, Haiti

Because Labadee is owned by Royal Caribbean, you can use your Seapass to pay for your food, drink, lockers, activities etc onshore. It means the cashless experience at sea continues seamlessly on land, so you don’t have to worry about carrying local currency. I found this super convenient.

Beaches in Labadee

If you don’t want to book a shore excursion for Labadee, you can of course just laze on one of the several beaches. There are ample stretches of spotless white sand, and plenty of palm trees that provide shade.

What to do in Labadee Haiti

Labadee even has its own signature drink: the Labadoozie, which is a blend of citrus juice and of course, rum!

Dragon’s Breath Flight Line

I’m proud to say that I braved the world’s longest over-water zip line in Labadee: the Dragon’s Breath Flight Line. This is probably the best excursion in Labadee for adventurous cruisers. It’s definitely not for those with a fear of heights.

After getting rigged up in our harnesses, we did a practice run on the ‘Little Dragon’, which is shorter than the main attraction, then clambered into an open-air safari truck and hurtled up into the hills.

The take-off point is 500 feet above sea level. The view from up there is just surreal: all lush greenery, turquoise water, silver sand and Harmony of the Seas residing majestically in her bay.

The flight line itself is 2,600 metres long. Strangely, it was very relaxing once you got going (at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour). Just look at those views!

Best shore excursion in Labadee Haiti

The flight line doesn’t take up much of your day, so you can spend time chilling on the sand or swimming before you have to be back on the ship.

Other things to do in Labadee

I was pleased to find that there’s a local handicrafts market in Labadee, so the cruisers’ playground is contributing to the local economy.

Among other things to do in Labadee are kayaking, hiring one of the private cabanas, parasailing and an aqua park with giant inflatables. You can book a ‘snorkelling safari’ to see Labadee’s coral reefs.

If the Dragon’s Flight Line gets your adrenaline pumping, you might also like to try the Dragon’s Tail coaster, which reaches speeds of up to 30mph and also has spectacular ocean views.

What to do in Labadee, Haiti on a cruise

If you’d prefer to learn about Haitian culture, you can book a walking tour of the island. Led by a local historian, the tour teaches you about events over the past 500 years, from Christopher Columbus to the ruins of Nellie’s Tower and Dragon’s Rock.

Our day in Haiti was so much fun and I’m really pleased we chose to do a shore excursion in Labadee. It meant combining a bucket list activity with downtime in the sun, which is just what a Caribbean cruise should be all about if you ask me!

Other excursions from our cruise

River tubing and partying in Jamaica

Mayan ruins and beach time in Cozumel

As mentioned at the beginning of this post, I was a guest of Royal Caribbean UK. Views are my own.

Additionally, Labadee features all kinds of activities to enjoy with kids as well as unique places to find the best views.

In this post, we will provide a full guide to Labadee, the beautiful private peninsula that sits on the north coast of Haiti. We’ll give you an overview of the beaches you’ll find on the island, including a full account of the cabanas available to rent on each beach.

This post will also cover available shore excursions in Labadee as well as a list of free things to do on the island. So, continue reading below for everything you need to know about Royal Caribbean’s private Haitian paradise – Labadee Haiti.

Beaches in Labadee Haiti

Royal Caribbean’s private island of Labadee offers several different beaches for guests to enjoy. If you’re planning to spend your beach day by sunbathing, building sandcastles, or reading a good book, the beaches in Labadee provide the perfect atmosphere. Below, we will provide a brief overview of the various beaches in Labadee Haiti, including the beach cabanas available (at an additional cost) in each location.

Nellie’s Beach

Nellie’s Beach is located about a ten-minute walk from the pier in Labadee, or you can take the free tram to this popular spot. This small beach area offers calm waters and plenty of beach chairs for guests. Nellie’s Beach is centrally located on the Labadee peninsula, which allows easy access to other activities and entertainment.

red tractor pulling two trams

Guests will need to walk a bit in order to dine at one of the available spots for lunch, though, as Nellie’s Beach is not home to its own cafe. Still, the walk to Columbus Cove Cafe or Cafe Labadee aren’t too far away. If you are interested in booking a cabana on Nellie’s Beach, you have several options.

  • Over the Water Cabana – Priced at around $1500 per cabana
  • Waterfront Cabana – $1200 per cabana
  • Beach Cabana – $1000 per cabana

Each of the cabanas holds 8 people, and it includes two floating mats and a cabana attendant.

Columbus Cove

Sitting just past Nellie’s Beach, Columbus Cove offers calm water and views of the Royal Caribbean ship docked at the pier. This beautiful beach is accessible via the free tram or by foot with a roughly 15 minute walk from the ship. You may also notice a tender boat available to take you from the pier to Columbus Cove; although, this isn’t always available.

Columbus Cove Map

Families visiting Columbus Cove love the easy access to the lunch buffet and the kid-friendly beach area. Beach loungers are readily available on Columbus Cove, or you can reserve a Beach Bungalow ahead of time. These Columbus Cove cabanas typically cost around $500 per bungalow and include bottles of water, floating mats, and a cabana attendant.

Cabanas in Columbus Cove Haiti

Note that you will not reserve a specific bungalow ahead of time like at Perfect Day at CocoCay . Instead, the beach bungalows are first come first serve upon your arrival to Columbus Cove. We recommend snagging one of the beach bungalows that’s located in the middle. While those cabanas at the far end of the beach may offer more privacy, the tide eventually comes up to those bungalows causing little to no beach space.

Adrenaline Beach

Adrenaline Beach is located on the northern side of the Labadee peninsula, and it offers the most beach space of all the Labadee beaches. While Adrenaline Beach can be really windy and rocky, it offers a unique experience and is often less crowded.

Beach games in the sand

Guests visiting Adrenaline Beach can enjoy views of the zipline, and they have easy access to the floating bar. While you’ll find lots of beach chairs available on Adrenaline Beach, you can also reserve cabanas during your stay.

  • Beach Lounger for Two – Priced at around $100 per set (NOT per person) depending on sailing
  • Beach Bed – Priced at $400 per bed and holds 4 people (These include four bottled waters, beach towels, and two floating mats.)

Note that with all cabanas and excursions, prices can fluctuate drastically depending on the time of year and ship you are sailing.

Barefoot Beach

While the main beaches are free for cruisers to visit, Labadee also features a private beach for suite guests. Barefoot Beach is the private beach in Labadee that’s available for guests in a Grand Suite or higher. Pinnacle members also have access to this exclusive beach.

Printable Cruise Planner

In addition to the private beach, suite guests (and Pinnacle members) also receive access to Barefoot Beach Cabana Club where they can enjoy a private lunch buffet. Barefoot Beach offers several different cabanas that guests can book in advance. The Labadee beach cabanas you’ll find on Barefoot Beach include the following:

  • Barefoot Overwater Cabanas – Priced at around $1500 per cabana depending on your sailing
  • Barefoot Waterfront Cabanas – Estimated at $1200 per cabana depending on sailing
  • Barefoot Beach Hilltop Cabanas – $1100 per cabana depending on sailing
  • Barefoot Beach Standard Cabanas – $1000 per cabana depending on sailing

All of the cabanas allow space for up to 8 people. Each cabana includes bottles of water, two floating beach mats, and a cabana attendant. For a full list of benefits that come with a suite, check out our post on Royal Caribbean Suite Perks !

As you exit the ship and walk onto Labadee, you’ll find yourself in Buccaneer’s Bay. This area features live entertainment to greet cruise passengers along with meeting areas for many of the shore excursions. Guests can reserve excursions for Labadee in the Online Cruise Planner prior to their cruise.

These are the most frequently asked questions about Labadee Haiti. If you have additional inquiries, feel free to comment at the bottom of this post.

Where is Labadee Haiti located on a map?

Labadee sits on the northern coast of Haiti just west of the Dominican Republic. Although it’s often referred to as an island, Labadee is actually a private peninsula used by Royal Caribbean.

Is Labadee Haiti safe?

The private peninsula of Labadee is safe to visit. The resort area is gated off and secured from locals except those who are cleared to work there. In addition, cruise passengers are not able to leave the area unless on a shore excursion.

Does Royal Caribbean provide towels?

Yes, you can grab towels to use on Labadee while on the Royal Caribbean ship. Additionally, some of the cabana rentals include beach towels.

Are the Columbus Cove Beach Bungalows priced per person?

No, the Columbus Cove Beach Bungalows are priced per cabana. Even though the Royal Caribbean app and cruise planner may read “per person,” the bungalow rate is for the cabana. The fine print usually explains this; however, the posted price can be confusing.

Do Royal Caribbean drink packages work on Labadee?

Yes, if you purchased a beverage package for your cruise, it will be honored in Labadee and in Cococay.

What is the best beach in Labadee Haiti?

Labadee’s beaches are all beautiful, and they all offer a different vibe. We recommend visiting each of the beaches if you have time, so you get a feel for the uniqueness of each one.

Oasis of the Seas in Haiti

If you’re looking for the best beach in Labadee, my family and I usually spend our time in Columbus Cove. Since this beach is free of rocks, it’s a great spot for toddlers and kids to splash in the water or play in the sand.

Final Thoughts on What to Do in Labadee Haiti

Overall, Labadee is a beautiful, private spot to visit while sailing with Royal Caribbean. The peninsula is full of unique beaches, shore excursions, and fun activities that the whole family can enjoy. I want to end by mentioning the Artisan Market on the island where locals sell various types of merchandise.

blue water slide in labadee

Prior to visiting Labadee, I heard/read lots of reviews stating the people in the Artisan Village were aggressive and manipulative. Our group of sixteen, including seven kids, did not have an issue walking through this area. Yes, the locals yell at you while trying to get your attention to buy things. But, they all seemed friendly about it.

Artisan Village in Labadee

Additionally, security guards keep the merchants in a specific area; so, they weren’t allowed to approach us while walking outside the market. Many of the merchants will stand at the entrance trying to entice you inside, but we politely declined and kept walking. They all had big smiles on their faces and seemed super friendly. They are usually just eager to find interested buyers.

I mention all of this to say – don’t let any negative reviews of the Artisan Market deter you from visiting this amazing destination. Labadee is full of pristine beaches, fun excursions, and cultural experiences. What are your favorite things to do in Labadee Comment below to share with us!
