Asian Tour’s 2023 calendar is one of the strongest-ever season
The Asian Tour unveiled its 2023 schedule through to May, for what promises to be the finest start to a season the Tour has ever enjoyed.
The new season will commence in Saudi Arabia, at the most lucrative event of the year, before being followed by an exciting blend of established and new tournaments, including four International Series events.
The impressive schedule boasts a total of 11 tournaments contested over 14 weeks, starting with the US$5 million PIF Saudi International powered by Softbank Investment Advisers – won so dramatically by American Harold Varner III this year when he holed a 92-foot eagle putt on the 72 nd hole – at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club, near Jeddah, from February 2-5.
In the ensuing two weeks, the Tour will then journey to two inaugural International Series tournaments in Oman and then Qatar – marking the first time the International Series will have visited the Middle East. Al Mouj Golf will host the former event, while Doha Golf Club will stage the latter.
These will be the first of an expanded 10 International Series events in 2023, with International Series stops to follow in Hua Hin, Thailand, in March, and Cam Ranh, Vietnam the following month. The International Series Thailand launched the highly successful International Series earlier this year and saw American Sihwan Kim triumph at Black Mountain Golf Club, while the Tour visits the spectacular KN Golf Links for the first edition of the Vietnam event. This will be the first time the Asian Tour will return to Vietnam in seven years.
The New Zealand Open presented by SKY SPORT makes a popular return to the calendar following a two-year COVID-19 enforced break in the first week of March at Millbrook Resort in Queenstown – the tournament’s home since 2014.
The DGC Open, inaugurated in the 2022 season, will also be staged in March at the historic Delhi Golf Club, as well as the Tour’s long-awaited return to Hong Kong with a new event at one of the region’s most iconic golfing venues, the Hong Kong Golf Club. Details of this event will be released soon along with information on back-to-back tournaments in Thailand in April and a Korean event in May.
“We are very proud to announce the start of the 2023 season, hot off the heels of a tremendous 2022. It is fantastic to see us carry the momentum of the season we have just completed and start the new season at full pace.” said Cho Minn Thant, Commissioner & CEO, Asian Tour.
“The Asian Tour is absolutely thrilled with how the schedule looks; it reaches a wide range of exciting destination, offers extremely lucrative purses, world class venues, and a great balance of established and new events.
“The PIF Saudi International powered by Softbank Investment Advisers, a truly global golfing event, is the perfect way to start the season and sets the tone for what will be, unquestionably, the strongest season in the history of the Asian Tour.”
The 2022 season, which saw 20 tournaments staged, came to a dramatic conclusion two weeks ago in Indonesia where Thailand’s Sarit Suwannarut stormed to an impressive victory, marking himself down as one to look out for next year, while Sihwan Kim secured the Asian Tour Order of Merit (OOM) title and Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent, the International Series OOM.

Macao Open back on 2023 Asian Tour schedule, set for October with SJM as title sponsor
Finding its way back on the Asian Tour schedule this year, as announced today by the tour and IMG, is the popular Macao Open, with SJM Resorts, S.A. (SJM) signed on as the title sponsor. One of the most popular stops on the Asian Tour, the Macao Open will return bigger and better than ever for its 20th edition, set to take place on October 12-15 at the picturesque Macau Golf and Country Club.
SJM, a leading owner, operator and developer of premium integrated entertainment resorts in Macao, is confirmed as the title sponsor for the next three editions, backed by the full support and endorsement of the Sports Bureau of Macao and the Macao Golf Association.
Featuring on the schedule for the first time since 2017, when the tournament was won by India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar, the SJM Macao Open will feature a 144-player field competing for a prize fund of US$1 million at the Macau Golf and Country Club, which has staged every edition of the event and is renowned as one of the most beautiful courses to play in Asia, offering stunning views of the South China Sea.
“We are delighted to welcome back this important Asian Tour event to our schedule and are very grateful for the support of the Sports Bureau of Macao, SJM, the Macao Golf Association and our partners IMG for their work in reinstating this tournament,” said Cho Minn Thant, CEO & Commissioner of the Asian Tour. “Historically it has been a very popular event amongst our players and I know this will be very welcome news for all.”
Pun Weng Kun, President, Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government added, “Bringing back this long-running golf tournament to Macao has been an important priority and we are very happy to be able to support the return of this international event. ‘Sport for All’ is a very important government initiative and the health benefits of golf are undeniable so we hope that the return of the SJM Macao Open to the island will serve as inspiration to our residents and be enjoyed by all.”
Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, remarked: “SJM is committed to bringing Macao onto the world stage by hosting international sporting events. We are very proud to be the title sponsor of the SJM Macao Open, through which we will contribute to enhancing Macao’s profile as an energetic sports city and showcasing our all-rounded strength as a top-notch destination.” She further stated that as a major supporter of ‘sports + tourism’, SJM is constantly striving to elevate Macao’s brand as a world centre of tourism and leisure, boost international arrivals and bring economic benefits to the community.
Macao Golf Association President Charles Lo added that reinstating their national Open has been a high priority. “We are thrilled to be part of this announcement and very thankful to all the partners who have helped make this happen. We very much look forward to welcoming everyone to the SJM Macao Open later this year,” he said.
An impressive roster of global stars has competed over the years including Major winners Ernie Els, Nick Faldo, Darren Clarke, John Daly, Padraig Harrington, Vijay Singh and Nick Price, as well as prolific international winners including Miguel-Angel Jimenez, Branden Grace, Ian Poulter and Thongchai Jaidee. Past winners have included Lee Westwood, Colin Montgomerie and China's own Liang Wen-chong and two-time winner Zhang Lian-Wei.
“Over the years this tournament has hosted many of the world’s best golfers at the world-class facilities of Macau Golf & Country Club,” said Grant Slack, EVP & Managing Director, Golf Events, IMG. “Together with the Asian Tour, MSB, SJM and Golf Association of Macau, we are so pleased to be able to play a part in returning this important event to Macao and we are already underway with our preparations for its October return.”

Volvo China Open Returns To Asian Tour Schedule As International Series Event
The tournament will mark the eighth International Series event of year as the Asian Tour returns to China for the first time since 2019

The International Series schedule for the remainder of 2023 has been confirmed with the eighth of its 10 events, the Volvo China Open, which returns to the Asian Tour after a four-year absence.
The event at Hidden Grace Golf Club will have a $1.5m purse and will take place between 2 and 5 November before the International Series concludes with the Hong Kong Open and the Indonesian Masters over the following two weeks.
The return of the Volvo China Open to the Asian Tour schedule marks the first time the Tour has visited the country since the 2019 tournament. Commissioner & CEO of the Asian Tour Cho Minn Thant welcomed the move, saying: “We are thrilled to have the Volvo China Open back on our schedule.
"It will be our first visit to China since before the pandemic and I know our members are excited to be able to return there after such a long lay-off. Our thanks go to the China Golf Association (CGA), Volvo and the staff and management at Hidden Grace Golf Club.”
President of the China Golf Association Zhang Xiaoning added: “The Volvo China Open has consistently set the benchmark for tournament golf in China. It is a pioneering event that has made outstanding contributions to the development of golf in our country.
“This year will be no exception as the tournament has been upgraded to a stop on The International Series, and it will play a key role in preparations for the Paris Olympics after the Hangzhou Asian Games which we are now focusing on.”
The International Series is in its second year thanks to a $300m investment over 10 years from the Saudi Public Investment Fund backing LIV Golf . That close affiliation with the circuit also means the winner of the International Series Order of Merit will earn a starting place in the 2024 LIV Golf League.

FOUR INTERNATIONAL SERIES EVENTS PART OF ASIAN TOUR'S EARLY 2023 SCHEDULE
Four International Series tournaments, including debut events in the Middle East and trips to Thailand and Vietnam, are included in the early portion of the 2023 Asian Tour schedule released Friday .
The 2023 season will mark the second year of the LIV Golf-supported International Series, the ground-breaking set of elevated events on the Asian Tour that recognizes and develops next-generation stars while providing playing opportunities for LIV Golf members. LIV Golf has made a sizable commitment to the International Series, with prize purses of $2 million or more for each tournament to help invigorate the game in Asia and the Middle East.
The International Series also offers a pathway to playing privileges at LIV Golf events. Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent won the International Series Order of Merit in 2022 and received an exemption to play in the upcoming 2023 LIV Golf League . Vincent and several others also played a full LIV schedule in 2022 thanks to their success in last year’s International Series events.
The 2023 Asian Tour season will open with its flagship event, the $5 million PIF Saudi International powered by Softbank Investment Advisers on Feb. 2-5. Royal Greens Golf and Country Club, site of the last regular-season event during the inaugural 2022 LIV Golf Invitational Series, is the tournament venue for the fifth consecutive year. The defending champion is current LIV Golf member Harold Varner III, who won in dramatic fashion with a 92-foot eagle putt on the final hole to beat Bubba Watson; the two eventually became teammates on Niblicks GC, with Watson the non-playing captain while recovering from knee surgery.
The first International Series tournament takes place the following week, Feb. 9-12 in Oman. The $2 million event will be held in Muscat at Al Mouj Golf, Oman’s first links-style course set along more than a mile of coastline along the Indian Ocean. The layout, designed by LIV Golf CEO and Commissioner Greg Norman, is considered the second-best course in the region, according to the Top 100 Golf Courses rankings. It will be the first International Series event ever held in the Middle East.
The International Series will remain in the Middle East for the event in Qatar, Feb. 16-19. The host course for the $2.5 million tournament is Doha Golf Club, among the oldest golf destinations in the region. Current LIV members Branden Grace, Sergio Garcia and Henrik Stenson have won professional events at Doha, which first hosted the Qatar Masters in 1998.
International Series Thailand will return to Black Mountain Golf Club on March 9-12. Located in the foothills outside the royal town of Hua Hin, Black Mountain has been voted as Thailand’s top course seven times and hosted its first professional event in 2009. Last year, it was the venue for the first of seven International Series events, with Sihwan Kim winning the title that helped lead to several LIV Golf starts.
A month later, International Series Vietnam will be played at KN Golf Links in Cam Ranh on April 13-16. The Norman-designed signature course, a links-style layout with views of the South China Sea, ranks among the best in Asia. It will be the first time in seven years that the Asian Tour has played in Vietnam.
A total of 10 International Series events will be part of the full 2023 Asian Tour schedule, with the remaining six in the series to be included in future announcements.
“The Asian Tour is absolutely thrilled with how the schedule looks,” Asian Tour Commissioner and CEO Cho Minn Thant said in Friday's news release. “It reaches a wide range of exciting destinations, offers extremely lucrative purses, world-class venues and a great balance of established and new events.”

Korean events confirmed on Asian Tour schedule
Golf in uae, golf in uae world.
The GS Caltex Maekyung Open Golf Championship & Kolon Korea Open returning to Asian Tour
Two of Asia’s longest-running and most popular championships will return to the Asian Tour schedule in 2023.
The 42nd edition of the GS Caltex Maekyung Open Golf Championship will be staged at Namseoul Country Club from May 4-7.
The Asian Tour’s finest players will then return to Korea from June 22-25 for the Kolon The 65th Korea Open Golf Championship at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club.
Cho Minn Thant, Commissioner & Chief Executive Officer at the Asian Tour, said: “We’re delighted to be able to confirm that these two fabulous championships will form part of what’s shaping up to be a record-breaking season for the Asian Tour.
“Our thanks go to the sponsors, the Korea Golf Association for their continued support, and Namseoul and Woo Jeong Hills, which are familiar venues to top-level tournament golf.”
In particular, Bio Kim and Minkyu Kim will be looking forward to returning to the scenes of memorable triumphs in 2022.
Roared on by a large final-day gallery, Bio Kim carded a closing one-over-par 72 to claim his overdue maiden Asian Tour title with a nine-under total. He had also won the Maekyung Open at Namseoul in 2012, although it was not then part of the Asian Tour.
Of the Namseoul venue, Kim said: “It’s a place where I grew up and where I practice a lot. That’s a reason why I’ve had success here. I like the golf course … and my house is about 20 minutes away. That helps!”
Minkyu Kim, meanwhile, secured his first Asian Tour title and first victory as a professional on Korean soil at his country’s national Open at Woo Jeong Hills in 2022 following a tense three-hole play-off with compatriot Mingyu Cho.
In so doing he added his name to the illustrious list of Korea Open winners, which includes Major champions Y.E. Yang, Vijay Singh, Sergio Garcia and John Daly.
