Support act Sinistro (from Germany? their lyrics were in German) were ok, but nothing special. Alcest *were* special, though. I've never seen them before but had been waiting to do so for a couple of years, and it was worth the wait. Neige came across as extremely likeable! (That surprised me, for I'd heard his reputation was otherwise). They played tracks from several of their albums, including plenty from the new one, Kodama. All of them were played effectively, but the ones with a bit more variation, light and shade, were especially good, as were the ones with the more black-metal vocals. The band put a lot of effort into their performance, and it really paid off in the songs being really moving. The final act, Mono, weren't of as much interest to me, although I might check out some of their material.

Alcest's live shows are so intense its frightenly good. They usually open with a slow echoey girl singing 'ahhhh' that bounces off the walls. And then they kick into life. You're taken on a mystical adventure into Neiges, lead singer, experiences and you find yourself totally not in control...but in a good way! There is a concept behind Alcest whereby Neige had experiences as a child being in contact with 'a far away country.' He doesn't invite you into this unfamiliar empiricism, you are sucked in by the live sounds you are hearing. The lyrics sang, the riffs the lights everything collaborates into this realm of Alcestism. You walk away feeling perplexed, a bit out of whack and of sort, but you cant help wanting to experience it again.

The show was amazing. Emma Ruth Rundle who played before Alcest was very talented and beautiful, the song she played with Neige was lovely. I was amazed the whole night when Alcest got on the stage, they were outstanding to see. I wish more people could appreciate their music. They played old and newer songs, I thought it was the perfect blend. I feel lucky that I got to see them for the first time, and I hope I can go to more shows if they are nearby.

This was the first time I saw the band live and it was a magical experience. The frontman is very timid in his interaction with the audience but it matches the dreamlike atmosphere. The music is brilliant, very timid at times and very hard the next moment. It was quite a long set (full play-through of the Kodama album and a big number of other songs). The next time they're in the neighbourhood I will definitely go again!

Alcest was great!! Although they were guests and played a different type of music than Opeth, they rocked the show during these short 40 minutes.. They played a great collection of their best songs from different albums.. I'm proud to be one of the few ones who have attended this concerts just for Alcest, and hope to see them live again soon!

Going to an Alcest show is always a magical experience. The textures, the simple yet stunning melodies and ambient hums with the occasional heaviness make for a very special show. My third time seeing them, and it was just beautiful.

I would have preferred the vocals being a tad higher, but besides that, it was a beautiful show.

alcest is always great, and happy to see them in Boston every year for sure. the sound system was a bit problematic. the vocals and guitar melodies were hard to hear. would be fantastic if anathema and alcest appear in the same show. the other band (black beach?) was a bit low level instrumentation and composition wise.

nocturnomountainman’s profile image

The show was magical and epic, a really special group with a really special front man. Really like being in another world for an hour and half.

They were great last night and great a year ago...waiting for the 3rd time! (maybe with new songs...)

Alcest's performance was passionate and inspired. The sound was clear and powerful - their songs are transcendent & genre-defying. I highly recommend not only seeing them in concert but buying there music as well.

jason-lessenger’s profile image

I wasn't too keen on any of the opening bands. Creepers had some good tunes but I wasn't feeling the vocals at all.

The sound for Alcest was spot on from where I was standing. Drums were huge. Great setlist.

About alcest.

Alcest is a French band from Bagnols-sur-Cèze, founded and led by Neige (Stéphane Paut). It began in 2000 as a black metal solo project by Neige, soon a trio, but following the release of their first demo in 2001, band members Aegnor and Argoth left the band, leaving Neige as the sole member. In 2009 drummer Winterhalter from Les Discrets (and formerly Peste Noire) joined Alcest's studio line-up, after eight years with Neige as the sole full-time member. Since its creation, Alcest has released five studio albums and a number of EPs and split releases. Their fourth album, 2014's Shelter, marked a dramatic shift towards a distinctly shoegaze sound, however their latest album Kodama marks a return to their earlier blackgaze sound. The band are widely credited with pioneering the blackgaze/post-black metal genre, particularly through their EP Le Secret released in 2005.

Alcest

French metal outlet Alcest is influential enough to lay claim to having started a subgenre of metal. And while it has toured the United States with increasing frequency during its 18 years as a band, it’s capping off the touring cycle for its most recent album, 2016’s Kodama , by playing the set in its entirety at Prophecy Fest , the first stateside festival for Alcest’s record label.

Prophecy, a small German label that specializes in black metal and neo-folk, doesn’t have a huge presence in America, but it throws annual music festivals in Europe. On Nov. 2-3, Prophecy Fest will make its American debut at Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory. And while the fest’s inaugural U.S. presentation includes other bands mostly from Prophecy’s roster — such as Crowhurst, Eye of Nix, Xasthurand Volur — hearing Alcest’s fifth album from front to back will be a big draw for fans of blackgaze, a subgenre that blends the atmospherics and melody of ’90s-era shoegaze with the heaviness and intensity of black metal.

This isn’t the first time Alcest has played an album in its entirety live, nor is it the first time it has played Prophecy Fest, which took place in a cave in Balve, Germany, two years ago. “We’ve done [entire albums] for special occasions, but this is the first time we’ve done it in the U.S.,” says singer-guitarist Stéphane Paut, aka Neige. “I’m quite sure there will be some people interested in hearing the album in full because it’s a different approach. The first half will be the album, and the second half will be other songs from our previous albums.”

Trending on Billboard

Alcest recognizes the importance of the American market, with Neige telling Billboard it sells more records here than in France, which Neige chalks up to the open-mindedness of music fans. “We’ve been touring in the U.S. from almost the beginning,” he says. “We had fans there before we had fans in our own country, and we’re very grateful for that. And in the U.S., they have a lot less barriers around music. They’re way more open in terms of genre. They can listen to anything — they’ll listen to black metal, hip-hop, whatever. In Europe, it’s either you’re a black metal kid or an indie kid or whatever, and the genres don’t really mix. And our style of music is strange. We have so many different influences, that might be a reason why the American fans stand to understand a little more what we’re doing here.”

When asked what the French metal scene is like, Neige says it lacks a singular identity. “We’ve had a lot of bands for a long time, but it was very underground,” he says. “We didn’t have worldwide known bands until recently. Even outside of Europe, we’ve been traveling a lot. We’ve played China, Japan, Australia, and there’s not too many other French bands that do that. There’s a Scandinavian sound; Swedish bands have this melodic thing in their sound, for example. But in France, all the bands are different. Us, Gojira and Deathspell Omega all sound very different.”

Greta Van Fleet on Taking the Classic Rock 'Torch and Boldly Moving Forward'

Neige says that Alcest has gotten attention from other labels during the course of its career, but it’s happy with honoring its contract with Prophecy. “I signed with them when I was really young, so I signed for a bunch of records,” he says. “Of course, we’ve gotten the interest of other labels, but we have a contract with them, so we can’t do anything about it. They’ve been doing a really nice job for us, though. Even though they’re a small label, they’ve been listening to our wishes. They also have a thing for special editions. We like the physical formats a lot, and they really want to release beautiful packaging. It’s very important to us, and it’s not something we could get with other labels.”

Vinyl is Neige’s format of choice. “I don’t know if that’s really the way people listen to music these days,” he acknowledges. “But I know a lot of people that like to listen to records. I like to listen to records myself, and you don’t just listen to one song on vinyl. You listen to the first side and then the second side. With Spotify and YouTube, the way people listen to music is different, but I don’t want that to influence the way I make music, so I ignore it.”

Another thing he ignored was the backlash the band received after its fourth album, 2014’s Shelter , where the group entirely embraced its softer side. “I was listening to a lot of shoegaze at the time, particularly Slowdive,” says Neige. “I wanted to see what a shoegaze Alcest album without any metal influences would sound like. No blast beats, no screaming, nothing. It was quite an interesting experiment because we were doing something quite fresh. Some fans wanted the heavy side, so some of them were quite pissed off, but some really liked it.”

Neige sees Kodama as a return to the band’s heavy side. “Some people that didn’t like Shelter are happy because they’re saying we’re back to our roots. It’s never great to hear critiques of your music, but when you make something really personal, you know there’s going to be someone critiquing it. It’s part of the game. I have no regrets because that’s exactly what I wanted to write at that moment.”

With the touring cycle for Kodama ending after Alcest’s American tour, Neige says that the band has been working on the follow-up for a while now, but don’t look for it any time soon. “We really want to take our time on it and not release something for the sake of releasing something,” he says. “We want to do something fresh every time and don’t want to put the same record out over and over. It’s quite slow, but we’re getting there and hope to release something by the end of next year.”

Babymetal Announces Yuimetal Departure, Releases 'Starlight' Video: Watch

When it finally does come out, Neige says it will be a dark, heavy album. “It’s going to be a very introspective album, a bit more connected to my own ups and downs, especially the downside,” he says. “I think it’s going to be quite dark for being Alcest, and that’s something we don’t really explore that much. It’s not like Kodama was a happy record, but I would say it’s a continuation from Kodama , but in a slightly heavier direction, maybe.”

Following an extensive festival season last year and having just wrapped a South American tour, the French post black metal two-piece  ALCEST  have taken some time to reflect on their rich past as one of the world’s most visionary metal acts.

Today, the band are proud to announce their   ‘ Écailles De Lune – 10th Anniversary Tour ‘, which had previously been postponed several times.  ALCEST ‘s second studio album was released in March 2010 to widespread acclaim, and the tour will honour this milestone in their impressive discography.

2023 will finally see the band on tour celebrating  Ecailles De Lune  alongside their special guests  The Devil’s Trade .

Neige  states: After the success of our Bataclan show in Paris for the anniversary of Ecailles de Lune we decided to make it a proper tour all over Europe. We can’t wait to play this album for you in its entirety plus selected tracks from all our other albums!

We are really excited to announce this anniversary Ecailles de Lune tour in Europe along with The Devil’s Trade. We can’t wait to play for you the songs of this album, which is very special to us, as well as others from the rest of our discography.”

Together with the announcement,  ALCEST  have   shared a video portrait, lifting the veil to give fans a deeper insight into the band’s thoughts and motivations.

You can find the video here:

For principal songwriter and frontman  Neige ,  ALCEST  has always been a gateway to the otherworldly, a means of exploring his spirituality.

An elemental two-piece, completed by long-serving drummer and creative Confidante  Winterhalter ,  ALCEST  seem to dip their toes in a multitude of musical genres without ever quite fitting in.

In the metal scene ALCEST is a weird band, in the indie/post-rock scene ALCEST is a weird band- we never quite fit in,”  Neige  reflects . “This is how I feel in life, always an outsider; It’s not a problem, it’s just the way it is.

The band released their last album Spiritual Instinct in October 2019, a soul-gripping masterpiece whose successor is already in the making.

ALCEST is: Neige | vocals, guitars, bass, synths Winterhalter | drums

Alcest announce the release of their seventh album Les Chants De L'Aurore

Atmospheric French duo Alcest will tour the UK and Europe later this year

Alcest

Atmospheric French duo  Alcest  have announced they will release their brand new studio album, Les Chants De L'Aurore , through Nuclear Blast Records on June 21. It's the band's first new studio album for five years, following on from 2019's Spiritual Instinct .

The band have also shared a video for brand new track L'Envol , which you can watch below.

“In the metal scene Alcest is a weird band, in the indie/post-rock scene Alcest is a weird band- we never quite fit in,” frontman Neige reflects. "This is how I feel in life, always an outsider; It’s not a problem, it’s just the way it is."

Speaking about the new song and video, he adds, " L'Envol is a musical return to the atmosphere of Alcest's first albums. I wrote this song after an inspiring trip to Corsica, where I met amazing people and was surrounded by some of the most unique landscapes I have ever seen. It is about escaping from earthly reality to join a flock of mythical birds flying through the known boundaries of our world.

"The song is accompanied by a music video created by the talented French artist Yoann Lossel, who also designed the album cover. For this first single release, we wanted the music, lyrics and visuals to be as coherent and immersive as possible. All the tracks on Les Chants de l'Aurore are very different from one another, but we thought this one would be a great introduction to the overall atmosphere and themes of the album."

At the same time the band (Neige is joined by longtime musical cohort, drummer Winterhalter) have announced a lenghty European and UK tour from October to December which sees the band playing dates in London, Glasgow, Manchester and Dublin. You can see the full list of tour dates below.

Today, the band are proud to announce their  “Ecailles De Lune 10th Anniversary Tour”, which had  previously been postponed several times.  ALCEST’s  second studio album was released in March 2010 to widespread acclaim, and the tour will honour this milestone in their impressive discography has been postponed several times.

2023 will finally see the band on tour celebrating  Ecailles De Lune  alongside their special guests The Devil’s Trade.

Neige  states: “After the success of our Bataclan show in Paris for the anniversary of Ecailles de Lune we decided to make it a proper tour all over Europe.

Together with the announcement,  ALCEST  shared a video portrait today, lifting the veil to give the public a deeper insight into the thoughts and motivation of an outstanding musician. You can find the video here:

About  ALCEST : For principal songwriter and frontman  Neige ,  ALCEST  has always been a gateway to the otherworldly, a means of exploring his spirituality. An elemental two-piece, completed by long-serving drummer and creative confidante  Winterhalter ,  ALCEST  seem to dip their toes in a multitude of musical genres without ever quite fitting in.  “In the metal scene ALCEST is a weird band, in the indie/post-rock scene ALCEST is a weird band- we never quite fit in,”  Neige  reflects . “This is how I feel in life, always an outsider; It’s not a problem, it’s just the way it is.” The band released their last album Spiritual Instinct in October 2019, a soul-gripping masterpiece whose successor is already in the making.

For principal songwriter and frontman Neige, ALCEST has always been a gateway to the otherworldly, a means of exploring his spirituality. An elemental two-piece, completed by long-serving drummer and creative confidante Winterhalter, their forthcoming sixth album »Spiritual Instinct« finds Neige at his most personal.

Written in bursts both during and after a prolonged period of touring in support of 2016’s hugely successful »Kodama« , the sense of urgency Neige speaks of manifests in a record full of spontaneity, of immediate impact – be that in the breath-taking pace of 'Les Jardin De Minuit'’s tempo changes, or 'Sapphire'’s sun-kissed harmonies over an impermeable back beat, one thing »Spiritual Instinct« has is riffs, an acknowledgement and celebration of the black metal foundations that anchor their uplifting post-metal.

»Spiritual Instinct« was recorded with producer Benoît Roux at France’s Drudenhaus studios, the same studio used for »Kodama«, between January and May of 2019. Ironically, the most immediate record in their catalogue born of the lengthiest, most arduous recording process.

Come January 2020 the band will embark on an extensive touring period in support of the record, the deluxe version of which features remixes of 'Sapphire' by celebrated synthwave producer PERTURBATOR and 'Protection' by long-time Chelsea Wolfe collaborator Ben Chisholm, in their own way articulating how ALCEST seem to dip their toes in a multitude of musical genres without ever quite fitting in.

Miles Russell, 15, to play Rocket Mortgage Classic

Change Text Size

Miles Russell already has finished in the top 25 of a Korn Ferry Tour event. Now he is preparing to play on the PGA TOUR.

He’s just 15.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic announced Monday that it has given Russell a sponsor exemption into the PGA TOUR’s annual stop in Detroit. The tournament will be played June 27-30 at Detroit Golf Club.

Russell has quickly established himself as one of golf’s top up-and-coming prospects. He won both the Junior PGA Championship and Junior PLAYERS Championship in 2023, then became the youngest player to ever be named the American Junior Golf Association’s Player of the Year. Tiger Woods is the only other player to win the award before turning 16.

This year, Russell became the youngest player to ever make a cut on the Korn Ferry Tour and just the second player under the age of 16 to make a cut on either the PGA TOUR or Korn Ferry Tour (Tianlang Guan is the other).

Russell eventually finished T20 at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Lecom Suncoast Classic, shooting 68-66-70-66.

Russell will be among the youngest players ever to make their debut on the PGA TOUR. The record belongs to Michelle Wie West, who was granted a sponsor exemption to play in the 2004 Sony Open at the age of 14 years, 3 months and 4 days. Wie West also became the fourth woman to play a TOUR event. Guan (2013 Masters), Andy Zhang (2012 U.S. Open) and Lorens Chan (2009 Sony Open) also debuted at 14 years old. Other 15-year-olds to play TOUR events have included John Oda (2012 Sony Open), Tadd Fujikawa (2006 U.S. Open) and Bob Pasanik (1957 Canadian Open).

Taylor Swift Stops Edinburgh ‘Eras Tour’ Show, Refuses to Continue Until Fans Get Help

Taylor Swift Stops Edinburgh Eras Tour Show Refuses to Continue Until Fans Get Help

Taylor Swift proved that nothing is more important than her fans when she refused to continue her most recent Eras Tour show until someone in the crowd received assistance.

During night one of Swift’s concerts in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Friday, June 7, the pop star, 34, paused her surprise song set — where she was performing a mashup of “Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve” and “I Know Places” — in order to signal that an audience member required help. According to social media footage found online, whhen the fan was not immediately attended to, Swift made it clear that the show would not continue until they were noticed.

“She’s right there. I’m just gonna keep playing until somebody helps them, I’m gonna be singing this song,” Swift sang as she strummed her guitar, adding that someone would eventually listen to her because she was “going to keep talking” about the issue until someone responded to her request.

“Just let me know. I can do this all night,” she said, getting increasingly frustrated. When someone finally found the fan in need, she yelled, “We’re good? Awesome!” before jumping right back into her performance.

Swift has made it her mission to remain alert to fans in trouble throughout the tour, which sold an estimated 4.35 million tickets across her 60 concerts in North America, Argentina and Brazil before she even embarked on the international leg of her tour.

Every Time Taylor Swift Has Asked Security to Help Fans During Eras Tour

The “Anti-Hero” singer has shown she has no problem shutting down the show until she can ensure safety. In May 2023, she interrupted her song “Bad Blood” during the 1989 set in order to yell at a security guard who was harassing a concertgoer. Six months later in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she was focused on making sure fans remained hydrated during an intense heat wave. (One fan, Ana Clara Benavides , tragically died from heat exhaustion before one of the shows.)

“There’s people that need water right here, maybe 30, 35, 40 feet back,” she said on stage during the Evermore set, pointing to a floor section of the crowd. “So, whoever is in charge of giving them that, just make sure that happens. Can I get a signal that you know where they are?”

After Benavides’ death, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that Swift was “beside herself” over the loss, noting that the singer’s team has “reached out” to the fan’s family. The insider added that Swift was “grateful” to have her boyfriend, Travis Kelce , there for her at the time, calling him a “huge support system” after she was left reeling from the tragedy.

Ensuring safety goes back farther than the Eras Tour for Swift, who was deeply impacted after 22 people were killed as a result of a bombing during Ariana Grande’s concert in Manchester in 2018. She embarked on her Reputation stadium tour just months later.

“I was completely terrified to go on tour this time because I didn’t know how we were going to keep 3 million fans safe over seven months,” she told Elle in 2019. “There was a tremendous amount of planning, expense, and effort put into keeping my fans safe. My fear of violence has continued into my personal life.”

ABOUT GRACIE ABRAMS

Since making her debut in 2019, Gracie Abrams has emerged as one of the most compelling singer-songwriters of her generation, earning the admiration of such like minded artists as Taylor Swift, Lorde, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo and most recently, she earned the highly coveted nomination for Best New Artist for the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards.  A consummate songwriter who names Joni Mitchell as her most formative influence, she penned her first song at age eight, then went on to amass a devoted following on the strength of her emotionally intimate lyrics and DIY sensibilities. As her profile rose, Abrams was named an artist to watch by taste making outlets like Pigeons & Planes, Fader, and i-D, in addition to being crowned one of seven breakout female musicians by Vogue UK. With the arrival of her debut project minor in summer 2020, she received glowing reviews from the likes of NME, who praised her “painfully honest tales of heartbreak draped in delicate melodies that carry much more intrigue than the usual run-of-the-mill singer-songwriter.” Executive-produced by Blake Slatkin — and also made with leading producers like Joel Little and benny blanco – the seven-song effort features her beloved singles “21,” “I miss you, I’m sorry,” and “Long Sleeves.” In November 2021, Abrams returned with This Is What It Feels Like , a 12-track project exploring such complex emotional experiences as self-betrayal, insecurity, and failed attempts at connection. Soon after completing her sold-out North American headline tour for This Is What It Feels Like , she set to work on her debut album. Abrams kicked off 2022 with a headline tour of North America followed by a support slot on Olivia Rodrigo’s tour and reconnected with Dessner to release two songs “Block me out” and “Difficult.” In 2023, Abrams released her highly anticipated debut album, Good Riddance , on February 24, followed by a North American headline tour that sold out in under one hour. Gracie toured with Taylor Swift as the opening on select dates of her blockbuster Eras Tour and will continue as direct support when the Eras Tour returns to North America later this year.

ABOUT ROLE MODEL

Role Model’s been in love. He was so in love he wrote his entire debut album,  Rx , about it. But not all romances last forever, and the 27-year-old’s grieving of that same relationship is at the center of his sophomore album,  Kansas Anymore . He began the project in 2022 but, faced with the ending of a formative relationship, he scrapped much of this early work. On his own and reinspired, he started anew, collaborating with Noah Conrad, Ian Fitchuk, Scott Harris & Jonah Shy to craft  Kansas Anymore  — a folk-tinged, lyric driven album featuring 13 new songs including “Oh Gemini” and “Deeply Still in Love.” Role Model is looking forward to playing these songs live, but more than anything, he’s embracing the sense of pride — and closure — he feels about making the album, about turning a personally heavy season of life into something that might move others. As rough as it was to ride that roller coaster of heartbreak and homesickness, Role Model feels these are the greatest songs he’s made yet.

Erica Banks Wants Tickets To Chris Brown's "The 11:11 Tour" After Singer's Meet-And-Greet Photos Go Viral

Chris Brown fans have just gained another reason to attend “ The 11:11 Tour .” On Friday (June 7), pictures of the singer at his meet and greet went viral online.

In one image, Brown wrapped his arms around the woman’s waist. Meanwhile, another showed the Virginia native holding his pants by the belt while leaning in for a kiss. “I would’ve tried to take him home. Stop playing, Maurice,” wrote one social media user underneath The Neighborhood Talk ’s repost. Another person said, “One thing Christopher is gonna do is appreciate them fans!”

“Buss It” rapper Erica Banks also learned about the photos. On Twitter, she humorously asked, “Can somebody send me a link to the Chris Brown meet and greet tickets?” with an upside-down smiling emoji.

Considering the tickets start at $1,111, it’s safe to say that concertgoers for the Detroit show got their money’s worth. The package also included two signed personal items, an 11:11 calendar and light refreshments.

Brown took a similar approach with his “One of Them Ones Tour,” where tickets were allegedly priced at $1,000 . On Instagram, he shared, “PSA! When [artists] do concerts, they all have something called a VIP package. I haven’t done meet and greets in over [seven] years… I have the coolest fans on the planet. I appreciate the f**k outta them. These are memories that will last with them forever.”

“The 11:11 Tour” kicked off on June 5 at the Little Caesars Arena. Montreal, Boston, Philadelphia, Houston, Oakland, Seattle and Las Vegas are among the other cities lined up. Ayra Starr and Muni Long are expected to join Brown for select dates.

Released in 2023, 11:11 featured guest appearances from Future, Maeta, Fridayy, Davido, Lojay, Victoria Monét and more. In April 2024, it was updated with a whopping 13 tracks, one of which included his Quavo diss track “Freak.”

Don’t Text, Mommy’s at the Rolling Stones

Portrait of Justin Curto

It’s summer — do you know where your children are? For once, avoiding that ghastly Ticketmaster queue. While Taylor is off on her Tortured Poets Department semester abroad and Ariana Grande is in the Galinda bubble , there’s an uncommon dearth of young stars on the American circuit through August. Left to fill the gap? Older artists, who are hitting the road to tour new albums, celebrate anniversaries, or just line their pockets (and sometimes all three). Yes, it’s a season of looking back, whether that means to the Summer of Love or to those years when you couldn’t leave the house without hearing an Usher hit. So which Gen-X, elder-millenial, or boomer-friendly summer tour is right for you?

The Golden Oldies

These old-timers still got the goods! Frozen-in-amber acts the Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band are playing marathon sets with a verve that’ll have you thinking they’re doping with Cialis, while Bob Dylan continues his never-ending tour, this time with Willie Nelson. Also, icons of the ’80s — whether that’s Janet Jackson’s dance pop or Metallica ’s thrash metal — firmly count as classic now. Dust off that leather jacket and embrace it.

Luis Miguel Through June 14

The Rolling Stones Through July 21

Janet Jackson Through July 30

Styx & Foreigner June 11–August 28

Willie Nelson & Family and Bob Dylan June 21–September 20

The OG Lollapaloozers

Gen-Xers can have a grunge-girl summer with Pearl Jam, finally see Missy Elliott headline a tour, or lean into dadhood and catch Wilco for the 27th time. You even have two chances to see Sublime, depending on whether you want the real guys , who are playing with Bradley Nowell’s son, or you’re a big Rome fan for some reason.

The ’90s Wannabes

Vampire Weekend doesn’t technically belong with the Gen-Xers. But they did leave the neo–dad rock of 2019’s Father of the Bride for ’90s New York City nostalgia on this year’s Only God Was Above Us, so consider them ’90s in spirit. Death comes for us all.

Vampire Weekend June 6–October 17

The Stars of TRL

From two-fifths of *NSYNC to five-fifths of P!nk (a.k.a. just P!nk), this season’s highest-profile pop shows are for the Y2k MTV-nostalgia crowd (c ondolences to the J.Lo fans ). Of the paltry few things millennial culture can take pride in, these performers’ live acts are among them — just ask anyone who saw Usher in Vegas.

The Country Elders

Old country fans who love complaining about how the genre isn’t as good as it was back in their day will have ample opportunity to relive it. Alabama and George Strait are repping the best of the ’80s (alongside old soul Chris Stapleton), Tim McGraw and Clint Black are resurrecting their classic ’90s sound , and Kenny Chesney is delivering all those laid-back, turn-of-the-century hits. Even if, for some reason, you’re longing for 2010s bro-country, well, Luke Bryan’s on tour too.

Tim McGraw Through September 1

The Cross-Generational Diplomats

What’s a band to do when they’re not a big enough draw to play amphitheaters on their own? Team up with another band that’s about 20 years older (or younger!). These acts are ambassadors, bringing together generations of indie-music nerds (Modest Mouse & Pixies), karaoke balladeers (Train & REO Speedwagon), or fans of groovy Bay Area rockers (Santana & Counting Crows).

Modest Mouse & Pixies Through June 30

Santana & Counting Crows June 14–September 2

Train & REO Speedwagon July 8–September 11

Young Music That Feels Old

Okay, here’s where we can build some bridges. This is the ‘take your tween daughter or younger cousin to one of these and earn Mom Cred, Dad Cred, or the much less vaunted Cousin Cred(?)’ material. Proving to older generations that what’s popular today isn’t that bad is a fool’s errand. Well, except for right now, while old-fashioned rootsy folk and country music is topping the charts. Parents will probably like the heart-baring Noah Kahan and the country rogue Zach Bryan as much as their zillennial kids .

Niall Horan Through August 3
