A much loved and friendly town, the city of churches is a popular travel destination for both local and international tourists. Though not home to as many iconic attractions as Sydney and Melbourne, from the city to the beach, there are still countless things to see and do in Adelaide and taking a tour will make sure you miss out on none of them.

Don't miss these Adelaide attractions

  • City tours and river cruises
  • Overnight at Kangaroo Island
  • Adelaide Zoo
  • See the Murray River on a riverboat
  • The Barossa Valley

Adelaide all encompassed

Seeing the best of Adelaide is a breeze with city sightseeing tours that offer guided walks to all of the city's highlights. This includes such attractions as Victoria Square, the late 19th-century built St Peter's Cathedral and the Adelaide Oval – one of the world's prettiest cricket grounds.

Close to the centre of the city, take a tour to Glenelg Esplanade to enjoy the picturesque bay views, or unwind with a boat tour down Adelaide's River Torrens. Cruises down the magnificent Murray River, located north east of Adelaide, are also available for those that want to explore the wider region.

Go north, east, south or west

To further explore South Australia , Adelaide is the starting point for tours to many more destinations located just outside the city. View native wildlife in its natural habitat on a day trip from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island. Wildlife tours are available as are quad bike, fishing and surfing opportunities.

If food and wine are more your style, you may want to consider a trip to the Barossa Valley. Approximately an hour from Adelaide, day trips allow you to sample the spoils of this verdant region. This includes a visit to many of Australia's best wineries as well as restaurants with locally-sourced produce.

Adelaide City

Bordered by the North, East, South and West Terraces, the city is one of the best areas to stay in Adelaide. From here you can shop ‘til you drop, indulge in fine-dining, head to an exciting sporting event at Adelaide Oval or get cosy in your hotel. When you're ready to head further afield, simply hop on a tram from the centre of town.

North Adelaide

Filled with heritage-listed buildings and grand cathedrals, North Adelaide is a true jewel in the city's crown. Just minutes from Adelaide Oval, this inner-city location is a great base to enjoy a stay. Find something amazing to eat at any hour on O'Connell Street, or walk down to the River Torrens and observe the lights of the city from Montefiore Hill.

Glenelg is one of the best areas to stay in Adelaide if you simply can't wait to start relaxing! Less than 10km from the airport, Glenelg has a host of beachside accommodation options available. With a tram line connecting you to the city and plenty of exciting restaurants and bars in the area, Glenelg is a fabulous spot to kick back and get some sun.

Frequently asked questions

When packing for a holiday in Adelaide, there are a few essentials you won't want to forget. Comfortable walking shoes for exploring, as well as sunscreen and a hat for sun-drenched days by the beach, because nothing ruins a holiday quite like sunburn on the first day. Last, but by no means least, be sure to pack your appetite, as Adelaide is home to some of the best food and wine in Australia.

Adelaide is a city with plenty of options for a fun-filled holiday. Take a stroll through the vibrant Central Market to indulge in delicious local produce or get up close with new furry friends at the Adelaide Zoo. For a dose of history and culture, head to the Art Gallery of South Australia or take a walk through the picturesque Adelaide Botanic Garden. Let's not forget about the stunning beaches just a short drive away, such as Glenelg and Semaphore.

Life happens - we get it! Read more here .

It depends on what brings you to Adelaide in the first place. If you’re here for the beautiful beaches, January and February are the best months to make the most of the warm weather. If you don’t mind the cold, June is excellent for whale watching, and if you fancy a drop, summer and autumn are when the local vineyards are harvested, so there’s plenty to see (and sample!). All in all, there’s no bad time to visit Adelaide.

Eat, explore and eat some more. Adelaide boasts an incredible foodie culture, in fact, it has the most restaurants per capita than any other city in Australia! And don’t even get us started on the wine. Adelaide’s wine region produces more than half of the country’s wine, so it stands to reason that there are some excellent sip spots to fill your Adelaide adventure. It isn’t all eating and drinking, Adelaide is also known for its live music, incredible month-long festivals, beautiful botanical gardens, thriving markets, art galleries and historic sites.

Domestic border restrictions have ended for nearly all States, meaning you:

  • don’t need to apply for a border pass
  • won’t need a Covid test

However, some States and service operators do require proof of vaccination. So all that is required to travel for most Discover Australia packages is to be fully vaccinated. Even WA has now opened up! It is expected that any remaining temporary restrictions will end or ease over coming weeks – since all governments have detailed strategies to live with Covid and to enable their tourism industry to flourish again. Many travel insurance providers are now offering good cover for Covid, including:

  • Travel disruptions and additional expenses due to Covid
  • Positive Covid test before travel
  • Positive Covid test during travel (including need to change travel arrangements / isolation)
  • Cancellation Cover

Lake Eyre and Outback Tours

Experience Lake Eyre and Outback South Australia on a Fabulous 5 Day Tour

The Best Lake Eyre Tour and Outback Experience in South Australia 5 Days

Lake Eyre Tours

Lake Eyre is the largest salt lake in the Southern Hemisphere, situated half way along the Oodnadatta Track in Outback South Australia.

Equally spectacular  when in flood with surrounding wildflowers and birds or in drought with it’s brilliant white crust and desert lifes.

Lake Eyre Flight Departure

Join our Lake Eyre Tour  and travel in a small group from Adelaide to Coober Pedy, Lake Eyre and Outback South Australia.

Our 5 Day Lake Eyre Tour  includes a visit to the Wadlata Outback Centre, the Arid Lands Botanical Gardens and the Woomera Rocket Range.

Walk on Lake Eyre

Meet the locals at William Creek  and explore the fascinating tiny settlement of Marree.

Walk to the edge  of South Lake Eyre, fly over North Lake Eyre, see the endless horizon at Lake Hart and discover the pink salt lake of Lochiel- this is truly the best salt lake experience from Adelaide.

Best Lake Eyre Tours

Lake Eyre Tour from Adelaide

Depart Adelaide and travel along the new Northern Express Way Connector passing the Port River Mangroves, the old Dry Creek Salt Fields, and Adelaide Plains Market Gardens to Lake Bumbunga in Lochiel. The lake is known to change colour from pink, to white, to blue, depending on the salinity of the water throughout the year. Enjoy morning tea and some fabulous photo opportunities.

After lunch we have plenty of time to explore the award winning Wadlata Outback Centre. Learn about fossils, minerals, wildlife, and the past of this region or check out the gift shop with its extensive range of books, maps, and souvenirs. Port Augusta is home to the fantastic Arid Lands Botanical Gardens. Admire the wildflowers, themed gardens, listen to the native birds and stroll past artistic outdoor sculptures at your own leisure. We check into our accommodation before a delicious group dinner. Day 1 – Lunch, Dinner, Port Augusta Standpipe Hotel overnight

Travel to Coober Pedy and marvel at the Kanku-Breakaways

After a comfortable sleep and breakfast, we continue our journey further north to Coober Pedy. On route we stop at Woomera. Woomera was a hidden base for rocket and weapons testing, established back in 1947. It is still being used as a military testing site today. Listen to Len Beadell’s story as we make our way to the Woomera Rocket Park, home to several aircrafts, missiles, and other artifacts. Walk among the collection before continuing on the Explorer Highway.

Our next photo stop takes us to Lake Hart another fabulously looking salt lake. Enjoy a comfort stop in Glendambo before we reach Coober Pedy the opal capital of the world. Only here can you arrive with just a shirt on and leave as one of the richest people in the world! Take your first look at the unique moonscape and bizarre township from the rooftop at the Lookout Cave. Coober Pedy is known for underground living and an underground overnight stay is an experience on its own and most definitely part of our tour.

After checking in at our hotel, we all have a try at Outback Golfing. Coober Pedy’s golf course is in the top 10 of the most unique places to play golf in the world. We then head out to the Kanku- Breakaways Conservation Park for some amazing photo opportunities. Kanku – Breakaways Conservation Park is Aboriginal owned, and the entire park is a registered aboriginal heritage site. We have permits to drive into the park and show off its amazing beauty. On route to our final lookout, we stop at the dog fence, a two meter high wire barrier stretching for over 5,300km across three States. Finish the day with a delicious dinner in town before retiring in your underground room. Day 2 – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Coober Pedy Lookout Cave overnight

Coober Pedy Tour and journey to William Creek

Hard to know the sun is up when you sleep underground but trust your stomach will tell you it is breakfast time. Today we explore more of Coober Pedy and its surrounds. We start with an Opal Mine tour, learn about the qualities of opal, and look at some brilliant opal that has been found here. See how some of the locals lived and visit the stunning Orthodox Serbian underground church. The Big Winch sitting on top of a mound offers 360 – degrees views of Coober Pedy. Enjoy the lookout views and then immerse yourself in a 40-minute cinematic journey with stunning footage and sound. After lunch we try our luck in noodling, meaning we search for opal through mullock piles. Once you have found your first shiny piece, you will understand how easy it is to get opal fever.

Coober Pedy is a fascinating mining town with unusual attractions including the eccentric Crocodile Harry’s Nest and the unique gravestones of Boot Hill Cemetery. All great places to see. You have some time to stroll the main street. Buy your special piece of opal or visit one of the galleries in town. What was once a rocky, dusty desert plain has become a bucket list travel destination. All back on board we tour through South Australia’s outback to William Creek. It is not only the smallest town of Australia, but also situated on the largest working cattle station – Anna Creek Station. Finish the day with a tasty hotel dinner and mingle with the locals at the William Creek Pub. Day 3 – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, William Creek Cabins overnight

Lake Eyre Scenic Flight and Walk to the Edge of South Lake Eyre, tour to Marree and Leigh Creek

This morning take a scenic flight over North Lake Eyre. We fly from William Creek, the closest airstrip to the lake. Lake Eyre is the largest salt lake in the Southern Hemisphere and more often dry than not. But when soaking rain does fall or flood waters drain into Lake Eyre, this dry land fills with lives. Thousands of pelicans, banded stilts and gulls fly in from as far away as North Queensland, flowers bloom and plants grow at a breakneck pace. No matter if Lake Eyre’s status is dry or wet, a scenic flight over Lake Eyre gives you a true sense of the wilderness, remoteness, and the enormous size of it. Outback South Australia is home to some hidden treasures, and you have the option to witness the Anna Creek Painted Hills. These must-see sandstone hills are a stunning outcrop in the middle of nowhere and can only be reached by air. Get up a little earlier and join the optional scenic flight highlighting the wonderful colours of the area. In addition, we have permission to land and explore this incredibly unique and spectacular landmark on the ground.

We continue our road trip and discover the scenery and lives along the Oodnadatta Track. Our first stop brings us to the viewing area of South Lake Eyre. Take a short walk to the edge of the lake to get an up-close experience with Lake Eyre. Alternatively, enjoy the views from the information bay. Be amazed by the endless horizon and incredible nature. Back on the road we follow the Oodnadatta Track to Marree, a historic railway township located at the turn off to the Birdsville Track. Visit the Afghan Mosque, learn about Sir Sidney Kidman, the Great Northern Express and about old Tom Kruse the outback posty. Our next stop takes us to Farina, which was established as a railway town for passengers travelling on the Transcontinental North Line in 1878. Visit the ruins and some of the reconstructed buildings while learning about the important history. Not too many people are listed as one of their town’s visitor attractions. But then Talc Alf is a one off, a quirky and engaging outback character who has achieved near icon status. Over the past 40 years he has created an outside gallery, and we view some of Alf’s unique talc carvings in Lyndhurst. We continue our journey further south to Leigh Creek. Once supplying all the needs for the working families in the coal mining industry, the town is transitioning to a regional tourist hub. We stay the night and enjoy a delicious 2-course dinner. Day 4 Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Leigh Creek Outback Resort overnight

Loved every minute of our 5 day tour with Flick and Rita! These guys are such fun, and couldn’t do enough for us. All our attraction visits were great! We loved seeing the opal mine in Coober Pedy, and staying at the William Creek Hotel grounds including flying over Lake Eyre and the Painted Hills! This was such good value, and we would love to tour with them again! They even give you ‘Frequent Flick Points’ on your next tour! Do yourself a favour and give these guys a go!

Tripadvisor

My husband and I have just returned from the 5 day Lake Eyre tour. The personalised service provided by the team was exceptional. In addition to good meals, we had an ample supply of fresh fruit and water on board – a great idea! Accommodation was good – loved our overnight stay underground at the Coober Pedy Lookout Cave. There are many highlights – our favourites were the Arid Lands Botanical Gardens (Port Augusta), Woomera Rocket Range, Coober Pedy opal mine tour, the flights from William Creek to the Painted Hills and over Lake Eyre, walking to the edge of Lake Eyre and last but not least, a pleasurable wine tasting session at Claymore Wines, Clare Valley. The chance to experience these remote, magical places has been a dream of ours for years. This tour exceeded our expectations.

Great affordable small group tour. Standing on Lake Eyre as well as seeing it from the air was awesome. Tour guide Flick was fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. Another highlight was Coober Pedy. Incredible. Outback touring at its best.

Thank you very much for the kind words and pics- very thoughtful.  Our trip was beyond magnificent largely due to your attention to details and passion!! It was perfect and we lament we are no longer away but back on the ‘rats wheel’. However, we look forward to our next trip with you guys; been thinking about it today! We hope you guys are well as with the rest of the team.

Take good care.

Thank you for having us.

LAKE EYRE 2024

Lake Eyre region has recently witnessed massive floodwaters from northern rains this year. These waters travelled down the Neales, Macumba, Frome, Cooper Creek, Georgina, Diamantina and Warburton Rivers to fill Lake Eyre and nearby lakes to a level not seen for many years.

You can see a recent satellite image here – https://worldview.earthdata.nasa.gov/?v=132.52769971831015,-30.223839999999992,145.79873971831012,-23.743839999999995&l=MODIS_Aqua_CorrectedReflectance_Bands721

Our tours aim to show you the best this unique region has to offer, including the amazing Mound Springs, iconic landmarks and Old Ghan and pioneer history. Lately our travellers have been impressed with their Lake Eyre flight also incorporating the Painted Hills, a nearby desert region with awesome multi coloured ochre hills. This opportunity will be offered to your group on the tour and availability depends on a consensus to spend approximately half the flight time on Lake Eyre, and half on the Painted Hills. This option only for flights from William Creek. 2024 flights will mostly operate from Marree unless William Creek is included in your itinerary ie usually tours including Coober Pedy and / or  Alice Springs

We look forward to seeing you on your journey soon. Please contact us if you have any questions

After a caffeine stop at the coastal town of Port Wakefield, arrive in the Southern Flinders Ranges for a morning hike at Alligator Gorge. Located in Mount Remarkable National Park, this is the perfect way to start the tour.

After lunch, have a quick stroll around Quorn, famous for the Pichi Richi Railway.

Arrive at Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park and embark on a hike at Arkaroo Rock, a significant cultural site for the local Adnyamathanha people.

This afternoon, experience a Welcome to Country in the Adnyamathanha people’s language at Wilpena Pound Resort.

Feeling connected to Country and nature, arrive at Skytrek Willow Springs Station. This 70,000-acre working sheep station features secluded bush camping and is our base while we unearth the Flinders Ranges. After a tasty dinner prepared by your Guide, kick back and enjoy front-row seats to one of the most spectacular light shows on Earth. The Flinders Ranges is famed as having some of the Southern Hemisphere’s clearest skies. Roll out your swag under a blanket of stars twinkling over the ancient landscape.

The driving distance today is approximately 510km.

Overnight: Swag camping at Skytrek Willow Springs Station Meals included: Lunch, Dinner

The fossils discovered in the Flinders Ranges are so old that geologists had to revise the geologic timeline of Earth’s history, identifying a new era called the Ediacaran period.

After breakfast, we will unearth more of this amazing park as we pull on our hiking boots for a morning hike through tall river red gums and past waterholes, culminating with breathtaking views over the surrounding wilderness.

Regeneration is in our DNA, so today, we will meet with a Park Ranger to learn about conservation efforts within Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. We can also give back by participating in some meaningful conservation work.

After lunch, we’ll take a magical scenic drive at Brachina Gorge.

Quench your thirst with a well-deserved drink at an iconic country pub before returning to camp to relax and have dinner.

Driving time today is approximately 3 hours.

Overnight: Swag camping at Skytrek Willow Springs Station Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

*Note: The Oodnadatta Track is an unsealed dirt road, and the conditions of the track depend heavily on the weather. If the road is deemed unsafe to drive on, or there is a possibility that sections of the road will close after we have commenced driving on the track, your Guide reserves the right to alter the itinerary and take a different route.

Today we are getting off the beaten path and travelling along a section of one of Australia’s most iconic unsealed roads, the iconic Oodnadatta Track.

Drive through eerie and moonlike desert scenery as the landscape uncovers highlights like Lake Eyre (Australia’s largest salt lake) and the Mutonia Sculpture Park.

Travel through Anna Creek Station, the world’s largest working cattle station. Covering an area of six million acres, it is equivalent to the size of Belgium!

Come late afternoon, arrive in the tiny outback settlement of William Creek. In the middle of nowhere, on the way to somewhere, this quirky town with a population of ten is an icon of the South Australian Outback.

After dinner, you might like to enjoy a cold drink in the heritage-listed William Creek Hotel, which opened in 1887. Then curl up in your swag under the stars in the campground.

The total driving today is approximately 500km.

Overnight: Swag camping at William Creek Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

After breakfast, journey to the famous underground town of Coober Pedy. The opal capital of Australia features a sun-baked lunar landscape, fascinating history and a unique way of life.

Visit the town’s main attraction, Umoona Opal Mine & Museum. Go ‘noodling’ or fossicking and learn about these precious stones during an opal-cutting demonstration.

Afterwards, visit Josephine’s Gallery & Kangaroo Orphanage. Established in 2008 to take in orphaned kangaroos from the far north of South Australia, it is about the size of Germany!

The gallery here is a world-class Aboriginal Art Gallery with an extensive range of Aboriginal artefacts and significant works by many of Australia’s best-known Indigenous artists.

The rest of the day is yours to do whatever you please, and there is plenty to explore.

Stay in a unique underground bunkhouse tonight and grab dinner at one of the many underground eateries.

Today, the driving distance is approximately 170km.

Overnight: Umoona Opal Mine – underground bunk, multi-share Meals included: Breakfast

Today we have some distance to cover. Travel north, past the Dingo Fence and the Aboriginal Heritage site, The Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park, where you will be mesmerised by the scenery of the Moon Plains.

Then, crossing into the Northern Territory, travel onwards to Watarrka National Park, the site of Kings Canyon.

Come late afternoon, arrive at our campsite at the Kings Creek Station. Relax, soak up the serenity, and, on warmer days, enjoy a swim in the pool.

Have your camera ready for a stunning desert sunset from the sunset viewing platform before dinner at the Station restaurant eatery and settling in for the night.

It’s an early start this morning for the spellbinding Kings Canyon Rim Walk, which is guaranteed to be one of the most magical experiences of your life. With its 300-metre-high sandstone walls, hidden waterholes, fern forests, chasms, canyons and caverns, Watarrka National Park is central Australia’s answer to an oasis.

Take in the 360-degree views and journey through Priscilla’s Crack, made famous by the classic Australian movie Priscilla Queen of the Desert. From there, see the sandstone domes known as the Lost City and the lush greenery and watering hole of the aptly named Garden of Eden.

After lunch, rest your legs on the drive to our final destination, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.

Late this afternoon, watch an unforgettable sunset over Uluru before retreating to camp for dinner.

Then, roll out your swag upon the red Earth and under billions of stars after dinner at camp.

Driving today is approximately 350km.

Overnight: Swag camping at Ayers Rock Resort Campground Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Rising early, breathe deep and soak up the serenity of a sunrise over Uluru. As the sunlight plays with the landscape, the rock formations change colour before your eyes.

Next, it’s time to get close to this natural wonder. At 348 metres high and some 550 million years old, feel a powerful presence the moment you set eyes on it. A guided 10km Uluru base walk is your best opportunity to connect with Uluru and learn its stories. Relax beside tranquil waterholes, take a break under a magnificent Sheoak tree and peer into hidden caves.

Afterwards, stop for lunch and visit the Cultural Centre to deepen your understanding of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. You can learn about Anangu culture and the park’s natural environment through exhibits and free presentations with Anangu and park rangers.

This afternoon experience a fun and inspiring dot painting workshop with a talented local Anangu artist and interpreter. During this wonderful 1.5-hour authentic experience, you will learn about ancient symbols used in Anangu art and teachings and will be taught some introductory Pitjantjatjara words (the local language spoken by Anangu). Use this knowledge to create your own artwork to take home and treasure forever.

This afternoon, return to camp for some free time. Relax by the pool or enjoy some of the activities at Ayers Rock Resort, such as a didgeridoo performance, a guided garden walk or discovering artifacts at the museum.

Enjoy a tasty dinner at camp tonight.

Today we only drive around 60km. You may walk up to 10km today if you do the full Uluru base-walk. However, shorter Uluru walks are available.

On the final day of the tour, an early start is rewarded with a spellbinding Kata Tjuta sunrise.

Translating to the Pitjantjatjara word for ‘Many Heads’, the 36 domes of Kata Tjuta are a defining feature of the Red Centre landscape both topographically and spiritually. Rising 546 metres above the surrounding plain, its tip is the highest point for miles, while the site’s ridges and ravines are closely connected with numerous Indigenous creation-time stories. Many of these stories are kept secret from outsiders, but you’ll learn a little about the local Anangu culture and appreciate the beauty of their land on a rewarding hike.

Your outback adventure ends in the late morning on our return to Yulara. From here you will be catching an included bus transfer from Yulara to Alice Springs, arriving around 7pm.

Overnight: YHA Alice Springs or similar Meals included: Breakfast

We will visit one of the best-preserved collections of Aboriginal Rock Art in the world at Ubirr rock upon sunset. This incredibly significant site showcases many styles of Rock Art and allows us to climb up high for a sunset that will blow you away looking out over the Nadab Floodplain.

After a big day, we head back to our cozy private camp and prepare dinner together, enjoying an evening with our fellow travellers.

We aim to visit one or more of the available waterfalls depending on group physical ability to complete the hike(s). This can include any of the following: Motor Car Falls, Moline Rockhole, Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), or Jim Jim Falls. There are many factors affecting accessibility although your guide will ensure you get the best experience possible.

Time permitting, we stop at Burrungkuy (Nourlangie Rock), another indigenous rock art site where archaeologists have uncovered works dating back over 20,000 years old. We explore the evolving social, cultural and environmental changes to the area over time before making our way back to camp for a hearty dinner and a well-earned rest.

Emirates returns to Adelaide with direct daily flights

adelaide tour flights

In a major sign of post-pandemic recovery for South Australia, the State Government has today announced Emirates will once again fly direct to Adelaide – generating a multi-million-dollar boost to tourism and trade.   From 28 October, Emirates will recommence direct daily flights from Dubai to Adelaide operated by a Boeing 777-200LR.   The relaunch of direct Emirates flights is a key milestone for South Australia’s post-COVID economic recovery – set to deliver an estimated $160 million in tourism expenditure and freight exports as well as boost jobs.   The tourism expenditure of daily direct non-stop Emirates flights is estimated to generate more than $62 million per year and create in excess of 315 full-time equivalent tourism-related jobs for South Australians.   Each flight will also offer 14 tonnes of cargo space, totalling 196 tonnes weekly between Dubai and Adelaide. The value of freight exports is estimated to be $98 million per year, bringing the total estimated expenditure generated by daily Emirates flights to Adelaide to $160 million.   Emirates flies to more than 140 destinations around the world and will provide Adelaide with flights from the Middle East, UK, Europe, India, and the east coast of the United States.   Emirates first launched its Adelaide services in 2012 and carried more than 165,000 passengers between Dubai and Adelaide in 2019. The service ceased in March 2020 soon after the declaration of the global pandemic.   Operating daily on the Boeing 777-200LR aircraft with 38 Business Class seats alongside 264 seats in Economy Class, the relaunched Adelaide service will offer 302 seats per flight and over 4,200 weekly seats between Dubai and Adelaide.

Emirates’ EK440 will depart from Dubai at 02:00hrs and arrive in Adelaide at 20:50hrs. Emirates’ return flight EK441 will depart from Adelaide at 22:35hrs and arrive in Dubai at 05:15hrs. All times are local.   The flight schedule connects passengers with Emirates’ prime European arrival and departure times offering a seamless travel experience and optimal connections of less than four hours.   The relaunched Emirates flights will bring the number of international airlines flying to Adelaide to 10.   The State Government through the South Australian Tourism Commission has worked closely with Adelaide Airport to reinstate direct Emirates flights to Adelaide.   Premier Peter Malinauskas said reinstating Emirates flights to Adelaide has been a key priority for the State Government.   "Emirates once again flying daily direct into Adelaide will further drive South Australia’s economic growth – set to deliver an estimated $160 million in tourism expenditure and freight exports and create more than 315 full-time tourism-related jobs for South Australians," Premier Malinauskas said.    "The Emirates service has been very much missed by South Australians – recommencing daily flights will make Adelaide easier to reach from key long-haul markets and make doing business with our state easier."   Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison said this is a major recovery milestone for the state’s tourism industry, providing a crucial link into South Australia’s traditionally strong European markets, as well as the UK, Middle East, India, and the east coast of the US.   "The reinstatement of direct daily Emirates flights into Adelaide is expected to generate more than $62 million in tourism expenditure alone – a major boost to our state’s visitor economy," Minister Bettison said.    "It is exciting that South Australia will once again feature in Emirates’ global marketing programs, getting more eyes around the world on SA and helping drive an increase in visitors to our state."   Emirates Divisional Vice President Australasia, Barry Brown said the return of Emirates to Adelaide has been highly anticipated by passengers and industry for some time.    "We are equally as excited to again service South Australia and provide the state with opportunities across leisure, culture and tourism and support trade growth opportunities through our connection to Dubai and onwards to destinations worldwide," Mr Brown said.    "The return of our Adelaide service completes our footprint in Australia serving five points across the country.    "With special thanks to our partners at the South Australian Tourism Commission and Adelaide Airport, I could not be prouder to be fulfilling Emirates’ commitment to Australia in its entirety. We’re already looking ahead to welcoming our first passengers from Adelaide on board in October"   Adelaide Airport Managing Director, Brenton Cox said this is great news for customers who will once again benefit from Emirates’ extensive global network via Dubai.   "It offers greater competition and choice for travellers, including through Emirates’ code-sharing arrangement with Qantas, connecting through the Middle East to Europe and Africa," Mr Cox said.    "Equally it creates significant tourism and wider economic opportunities in attracting international visitors to Adelaide.   "The widebody Boeing 777-200LR aircraft also creates improved air freight export opportunities for our local producers to Middle Eastern and European markets."

An Australian man has surprised his partner by taking over the PA system on their flight from Adelaide to Bali to ask her an important question.

Video footage captured the moment a Jetstar flight attendant requested Matt Ellis come up the front of the plane on Sunday.

“I’m crying already,” the flight attendant said, getting emotional at what was about to happen.

Matt then introduced himself to the passengers on board and asked his partner, Sam Dwight, to stand up.

Passengers in the front row could be seen tuning in, confused as to what was going on.

“I met Sam when I was at a pretty dark space in my life and she has been an absolute light in the worst time,” Matt said.

“She has stuck by me through thick and thin, and she obviously makes me a better person in general.

“And I reckon once you find that you’ve got to hold onto it.”

A shocked Sam stood in the aisle with her hand covering her mouth.

Matt continued: “So if you’ll have me …”

He bent down on one knee with a ring and asked her to marry him, receiving a round of applause from fellow passengers.

The couple appeared on Sunrise on Friday morning, where Matt explained Sam had caught on to his original proposal idea so he needed to think of something else, which is how the plan to pop the question during the flight came about.

“When I got up there and looked down [the aisle] there was a few heads facing me and I was pretty nervous,” he said.

Luckily, Sam said there was no chance she would have knocked him back, but the couple joked it would have been an awkward flight if she did.

Last year, a Jetstar flight attendant spoke to news.com.au about the moment she got “the biggest shock of [her] life” after landing in Sydney Airport to a proposal .

What you need to know when traveling for taylor swift’s eras tour.

US singer and songwriter Taylor Alison Swift, also known as Taylor Swift performs on stage at the ... [+] Paris La Defense Arena as part of her The Eras Tour, in Nanterre, north-western France, on May 9, 2024.

Taylor Swift thrilled fans with the addition of performances from her latest album The Tortured Poets Department when she kicked off the European leg of The Eras Tour in Paris on Thursday, May 9, 2024. She jokingly called that section of the show Female Rage: The Musical . Most concertgoers already knew and sang along to every word of all the songs she sang from the album even though it was released just a few weeks earlier on April 19. Such is the power of Swift.

In her long career of riveting live shows, her stunning performance of “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” may very well be her masterpiece so far. Swift is enjoying unprecedented success with her latest albums and tour, which showcase how she can tell a story like no other artist. Both her singing voice and her literary voice are stronger than ever, and it’s joyful to watch Swift embody and embrace her mightiness as a performer.

It's no wonder many fans are willing to travel hundreds or even thousands of miles for the chance to see Taylor Swift perform live. Since tickets sold out so quickly for the few remaining U.S. tour dates and resellers are aware of the intense demand, some fans discovered it was more doable to attend one of her international shows.

So, many fans in the U.S. and other countries have decided to make a vacation out of going to The Eras Tour in Europe this summer. If you are among them, here’s some advice on how to make the most of your international adventure.

Consider Your Lodging and Transportation Choices First

Before buying a ticket, be sure that you will have accommodations available. If you can book a hotel that’s within walking distance of a stadium and know the area is safe, that is ideal. Otherwise, check bus and train schedules for the night of your venue, then look at hotels that might be close to bus or train stops.

With tens of thousands of fellow concertgoers leaving at the same time, transportation can get tricky. If you book a room that’s farther from the venue, try to get a rental car instead of vying for a taxi or rideshare after the show. If you do that, just be sure parking will be available. You may need to buy a parking pass from the venue.

Also be aware that hotel room prices skyrocket when Swift is in town because there is such a high demand. If you are renting a car and don’t mind a longer drive, you can save a lot of money by booking a hotel room that’s a longer drive from the venue.

Enjoy The Moment

Amy Wilkinson, a 49-year-old Swiftie from Tucson, AZ, went viral in December 2023 for her reenactments of The Eras Tour performances using Elf on the Shelf dolls. She posted them to her Instagram, @Tswizzle_Momma , and found thousands of people watching each time she posted her videos. Like many other Swifties in the US, she is flying to Europe for The Eras Tour.

Wilkinson told me she had this advice for fellow fans going to the show abroad, “Enjoy the entire experience, from the moment you get on the plane until the morning after. You may be going for the concert, but the memories are made in the details. See the sights. Enjoy the food. Meet other Swifties. This is at the heart of what international travel is about.”

Make The Friendship Bracelets

Rebecca Bartley, a Swiftie from Nova Scotia, Canada, is going to Sweden to see The Eras Tour. She advises bringing friendship bracelets to share with fellow concertgoers on the night of your show. Wilkinson suggested making friendship bracelets in the language of the country where you’ll be seeing the show.

MARINA DEL REY, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 13: A Taylor Swift fan, friendship bracelet detail, attends the ... [+] opening night theatrical release of "Taylor Swift : The Eras Tour" at AMC Marina Marketplace 6 on October 13, 2023 in Marina del Rey, California. (Photo by Amanda Edwards/Getty Images)

It’s easy to learn how to make friendship bracelets. I had never dabbled in making jewelry before, but now I find great joy in creating friendship bracelets. I created dozens and handed them to fans at The Eras Tour movie.

To make friendship bracelets, I start by choosing the colors I want and which word or phrase I want the bracelet to express. Then I choose colorful beads and pick out all the necessary letter beads.

Next, I cut off elastic string. I find it’s best to use Stretch Magic elastic string because of its strength and durability. To make the bracelets, I cut off a piece of string that’s twice as long as I need so that there is ample room for cutting and tying multiple knots.

Then I tape one end of the string to my workspace, string the beads I have set aside until I feel like the bracelet is complete. Being careful to not let any of the beads slide off the string, I then wrap it around my wrist to see how it fits and then consider whether I am making the bracelet for a wrist that’s likely larger or smaller than mine. (Also, with elastic string, there’s room for a flexible fit.) I adjust accordingly.

As a last step, I make four to five knots in the string to tie off the bracelet. Many fans choose to add a dab of fabric glue to the end of the knot, but I found that got really messy and wasn’t necessary if you make multiple knots. Then I tuck the knots into one of the beads so that it doesn’t show on the bracelet. Then the bracelet is concert-ready!

Keep in mind that there are a lot of other ways to make friendship bracelets that are for more involved and creative that mine. And, if the idea of making friendship bracelets doesn’t sound fun to you, don’t worry. You can buy premade friendship bracelets on Etsy. Some Etsy shops like RainFoxx13 and BonniesBracelet have elaborate, beautiful friendship bracelets that you may want to keep for yourself. Others sell packs of friendship bracelets in bulk.

If you don’t want to trade friendship bracelets, that’s okay, too. The Swiftie community is accepting and supportive, and you still may get several bracelets as gifts.

What To Wear To The Eras Tour

There are no rules for what you should wear to Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour beyond the guidelines from the venue. Some fans go casual, and others choose to dress to the nines for the show. Some fans choose to wear merch from Taylor Swift’s official store . Many fans choose to dress up in costumes inspired by Swift’s songs and lyrics.

With the release of The Tortured Poets Department and its video “Fortnight,” some fans are choosing to imitate some of her looks from the video. Others are wearing their interpretation of the incredible costumes she wears during The Eras Tour concert. Others look at past eras for inspiration. You are likely to see every era represented in fan costumes at a show.

What You Should Bring To The Eras Tour In Europe

Wilkinson advised me that the number one thing to bring is a portable phone charger. If you plan on recording video and taking photos, your phone’s battery may die down quickly, and a phone charger can ensure you can keep capturing the memories all night.

Earplugs are a good idea if you’re sensitive to loud noise. If you’re bringing kids along, they are a must. They ensure you can enjoy the music while protecting your ears.

Bring along a cardigan or jacket. Layering is a good idea for a concert during the summer. Although it may be hot in the stadium, you might be chilly on the way home from the show.

You can’t go wrong bringing along hand sanitizer and a travel pack of tissues. Even if you can get through “All Too Well” without tearing up, you may cry at the sheer excitement of the experience. It can be intense in the best way.

If you have tickets that are far back, bring along binoculars to see close-up details.

What To Avoid At The Eras Tour

Don’t come to the stadium with a big bag. If you haven’t attended stadium concerts before, you may not know that you need to carry a clear bag if you want to bring a purse. It also has to fit within the measurements allowed in the stadium, so you can’t just buy a clear backpack and expect to get in the show. Check with your show’s venue to make sure you follow their rules for what you can bring.

How To Get Taylor Swift Tickets In 2024

Tickets have already gone on sale for the rest of the currently confirmed dates of The Eras Tour for 2024. However, you can get secondhand tickets from resellers. It’s usually not a good idea to buy from individuals in Facebook groups offering to sell tickets. That’s hard to verify, and many are scammed that way. Instead, check with the individual venue to see how their resell process works. It varies throughout Europe depending on the country and the individual stadium.

Vladimir Putin kicked off his second day in China with a visit to Harbin city as the Russian president trumpets deeping economic and strategic ties between the two powerful neighbours.

Harbin in the northeastern Heilongjiang province, which borders Russia’s Far East , has deep social, economic and cultural ties with its neighbouring country. The city was once known as “Little Moscow ” for its substantial Russian population and cultural influence.

It remains a centre of Sino-Russian cooperation.

Mr Putin’s itinerary in Harbin includes attending the 8 th Russia-China Expo and the 4 th Russia-China Forum on Interregional Cooperation. He’s expected to be joined at these functions by his counterpart president Xi Jinping.

Mr Putin will also meet students and faculty at the Harbin Institute of Technology.

The Russian leader arrived in China for a state visit on Thursday. He met Mr Xi and signed a 7,000-word joint statement heralding a “new era” of partnership covering a range of political, economic and strategic interests.

The “no limits relationship”, as Moscow and Beijing have previously described it, is aimed at counterbalancing Western, especially American, influence in Asia and Europe.

The statement condemned the US and its allies for their “intimidation in the military sphere” against North Korea , which has strengthened its ties with Moscow in recent years and is accused of being a major supplier of weapons for Russia’s war in Ukraine . Mr Putin hosted leader North Korea’s Kim Jong-un last year .

On Thursday Mr Putin and Mr Xi also attended a gala celebration marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between their countries and gave speeches at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.

“I am very sorry for talking for so long, not allowing the translator to speak,” Mr Putin said at one point during his speech. “I’m just feeling so much at home and thought that everybody understands Russian here.”

Mr Xi and Mr Putin spent some leisure time at Zhongnanhai, a government complex in Beijing similar to the US White House.

They strolled and held "in-depth exchanges on strategic issues of common concern" over a cup of tea, Chinese news agency Xinhua reported. The discussion included the Ukraine war.

Mr Xi bid Mr Putin goodbye with a hug as they concluded the first day of the Russian leader’s two-day visit.

Fans are following Taylor Swift to Europe after finding Eras Tour tickets less costly there

Thousands of Taylor Swift fans are following her across the pond after missing out on her U.S. concert tour last year or being put off by marked-up ticket prices.

Taylor Swift fans drinking at The Black Dog in Vauxhall, south London, said they were there thanks to the track “The Black Dog,” in which the singer describes monitoring an unnamed ex’s visit “into some bar called The Black Dog,” through location share on her phone.

LONDON (AP) — Thousands of ride-or-die Taylor Swift fans who missed out on her U.S. concert tour last year or didn’t want to buy exorbitantly priced tickets to see her again found an out-of-the-way solution: Fly to Europe.

The pop star is scheduled to kick off the 18-city Europe leg of her record-setting Eras Tour in Paris on Thursday, and planeloads of Swifties plan to follow Miss Americana across the pond in the coming weeks. The arena where Swift is appearing said Americans bought 20% of the tickets for her four sold-out shows. Stockholm, the tour’s next stop, expects about 10,000 concertgoers from the U.S.

A concert might sound like an odd raison d’etre for visiting a foreign country, especially when fans can watch the Eras Tour from home via the documentary now streaming on Disney+. Yet online travel company Expedia says continent-hopping by Swift’s devotees is part of a larger trend it dubbed “tour tourism” while observing a pattern that emerged during Beyoncé's Renaissance world tour .

Some North American fans who plan to fly overseas for the Eras Tour said they justified the expense after noticing that tighter restrictions on ticket fees and resales in Europe made seeing Swift perform abroad no more costly — and potentially cheaper — than catching her closer to home .

“They said, ’Wait a minute, I can either spend $1,500 to go see my favorite artist in Miami, or I can take that $1,500 and buy a concert ticket, a round-trip plane ticket, and three nights in a hotel room,” Melanie Fish, an Expedia spokesperson and travel expert, said.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz beams while holding up the so-called Taylor Swift bill he signed into law as lawmakers, First Avenue employees and online ticket buyers clap Tuesday, May 7, 2024, inside the First Avenue concert venue in Minneapolis. The law, prompted by the frustration a legislator felt at not being able to buy tickets to Swift's 2023 concert in Minneapolis, will require ticket sellers to disclose all fees up front and prohibit resellers from selling more than one copy of a ticket for live events held in Minnesota, among other measures. That was the experience of Jennifer Warren, 43, who lives in St. Catharines, a city in the Niagara region of Ontario. She and her 11-year-old son love Swift but had no luck scoring what she considered as decently priced tickets in the U.S. Undeterred, Warren and her husband decided to plan a European vacation around wherever she managed to get seats. It turned out to be Hamburg, Germany.

AP AUDIO: Fans are following Taylor Swift to Europe after finding Eras Tour tickets less costly there

AP correspondent Jennifer King reports Taylor Swift is heading to Europe, and her U.S. fans are following.

“You get out, you get to see the world, and you get to see your favorite artist or performer at the same time, so there are a lot of wins to it,” said Warren, who works as the director of research and innovation for a mutual insurance company.

The three VIP tickets she secured close to the stage — “I would call it brute-force dumb luck” — cost 600 euros ($646) each. Swift subsequently announced six November tour dates in Toronto, within driving distance of Warren’s home. “Absolute nose-bleed seats” already are going for 3,000 Canadian dollars ($2,194) on secondary resale sites like Viagogo, Warren said.

TOUR TOURISM: IS IT REALLY A THING?

Hard-core fans trailing their favorite singer or band on tour is not a new phenomenon. “Groupie” emerged in the late 1960s as a somewhat derogatory word for the ardent followers of rock bands. Deadheads took to the road in the 1970s to pursue the Grateful Dead from city to city.

More recently, music festivals like California’s Coachella and England’s Glastonbury, and concert residencies in Las Vegas by the likes of Elton John, Lady Gaga and Adele, have attracted travelers to places they wouldn’t otherwise visit, Fish noted.

Travel and entertainment analysts have also spoken of a pent-up consumer demand for “experiences” over material objects since the coronavirus pandemic. Some think the willingness of music lovers to broaden their fandom horizons is part of the same mass cultural correction.

“It does seem like it’s more than a structural shift, maybe a personality transformation we all went through,” said Natalia Lechmanova, the chief Europe economist for the Mastercard Economics Institute.

As Swift hopscotches across Europe, Lechmanova expects restaurants and hotels to see the same boost that Mastercard observed within a 2.5-mile (4-kilometer) radius of concert venues in the U.S. cities she visited in 2023. The U.S. dollar’s strong value against the euro may also increase retail spending on apparel, memorabilia, beauty products and supplies for the friendship bracelets fans exchange as part of the Eras Tour experience, the economist said.

Former college roommates Lizzy Hale, 34, who lives in Los Angeles, and Mitch Goulding, 33, who lives in Austin, Texas, already had tickets to see the Eras Tour in L.A. last summer when they decided to try to get ones for Paris, London or Edinburgh, Scotland, too. They saw a Europe concert trip as a makeup for travel plans they had in May 2020 to celebrate Goulding’s birthday but had to cancel due to the pandemic.

Goulding managed to secure VIP tickets for one of Swift’s three Stockholm shows. He, Hale and two other friends scheduled a 10-day trip that also includes time in Amsterdam and Copenhagen.

“As people who enjoy traveling and enjoy music, if you can find an opportunity to combine the two, it’s really special,” said Hale, who is pregnant with her first child.

FOR STOCKHOLM, 120,000 SWIFTIES CAN’T BE WRONG

The local economic impact of what the zeitgeist has termed “Swiftonomics” and the “Swift lift” can be considerable . It’s no wonder the exclusive arrangement Singapore’s government made with Swift to make the city-state her only tour stop in Southeast Asia earlier this year aroused regional jealousy .

No European governments have complained of their countries not being among the dozen selected for the Europe leg of the Eras Tour, although some fans have expressed surprise that Gelsenkirchen, a city with a population of about 264,000 is one of the three cities in Germany that made the cut.

Airbnb reported Tuesday that searches on its platform for the U.K. cities where Swift is performing in June and August — Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff and London — increased an average of 337% when tickets went on sale last summer.

Not to be outdone when it comes to trend-spotting, the property rentals company cited the demand as an example of “passion tourism,” or travel “driven by concerts, sports and other cultural events.”

In Stockholm , 120,000 out-of-towners from 130 countries -- among them 10,000 from the U.S. — are expected to swarm Sweden’s capital this month, Stockholm Chamber of Commerce Chief Economist Carl Bergqvist said. Stockholm is the only Scandinavian city on Swift’s tour, and airlines added extra flights from nearby Denmark, Finland and Norway to bring people to the May 17-19 shows, he said.

The city’s 40,000 hotel rooms are sold out even though prices skyrocketed for the tour dates, Bergqvist said. Concert visitors are expected to pump around 500 million Swedish kroner, or over $46 million, into the local economy over the course of their stays, an estimate that does not include what they paid for Swift tickets or to get to Sweden, he said.

“So this is going to be huge for the tourism sector in Sweden and Stockholm in particular,” Bergqvist said.

Nightclubs, restaurants and bars are seizing the opportunity to cater to fans with Taylor Swift-themed events, such as karaoke, quizzes and after-concert dance parties.

Houston resident Caroline Matlock, 29, saw Swift more than a year ago when the Eras Tour came to the Texas city. Now she’s making more friendship bracelets and trying to learn a few words of Swedish as she prepares to see the 3 1/2-hour show in Stockholm. The idea of seeing Swift in Europe was her friend’s, and Matlock needed some persuading at first.

“I was like, ‘I only want to go if it’s a country I haven’t been to. I’ve seen Taylor Swift,’” she said.

Visiting the Scandinavian cities of Oslo and Gothenburg is on their itinerary. The concert is the last night of the trip and Matlock looks forward to interacting with Swifties from other countries: “Americans tend to have a very obsessive culture, especially Taylor Swift-related, so I’m curious if the crowd will be more toned-down.”

WILL TOUR TOURISM ENDURE AFTER ERAS?

It remains to be seen if the music tourism trend has legs as long and strong as Swift’s and Beyoncé's, and if it will carry over to Billie Eilish, Usher and other artists with world tours scheduled next year. Expedia’s Fish thinks other big-name artists in Europe this summer will prove that booking a foreign trip around a concert is catching on.

Kat Morga, a travel consultant based in Nashville, isn’t so sure. Morga saw Swift perform in Nashville last year and helped two clients with school-aged children book European family vacations this summer that include seeing Swift in concert. But she thinks the difficulty of navigating ticket purchases through language barriers, currency conversions, international banking regulations and the risk of cancellations will limit the appeal of regular gig getaways.

“I think this is an anomaly,” Morga said. “People aren’t typically going to build their $20,000 huge family vacation only because Taylor Swift is there. She’s the one-off. She’s special.”

Booking Holdings CEO Glenn Fogel, whose company operates Booking.com, priceline.com, agoda.com, Kayak and OpenTable, is even less enthusiastic about concert tours as a tourism instigator. The Swift Effect causes a “little blip” when the superstar goes to smaller destinations, but for the worldwide travel industry, “one star touring around does not make a difference,” he said.

“It may just shift it a little bit. A person was going to go to the Caribbean for a week vacation. Instead that person (says), ‘Let’s travel to the Taylor Swift thing,’” Fogel said. “It doesn’t increase it. It just moves it from here to there.”

AP journalists Colleen Barry in Milan, Chisato Tanaka in Stockholm, Anne D’Innocenzio in New York, David Koenig in Dallas, Thomas Adamson in Paris and Brian Melley in London contributed reporting.
