Yes! Golf Callie-f Blade Putter Review

RRP: £215

Introduced in 2006, the Yes! Callie-f Putter is a traditionally styled cavity back putter formed from one-piece of forged manganese-bronze. The grooves are precision milled into the face revealing its golden grooves. All but the grooves are then...

The Callie is a moderate toe-down, traditional blade style putter made of 304 stainless steel. It offers a single sightline in the back cavity for alignment. Callie has been one of the most popular Yes! models for years.

Callie 12 is classic blade but not a classic colour - the white finish works fantastically. Yes! C-Groove technology provided us with a unique look to the putter face and the contrast of the white finish and black grooves looks superb. The loud zebra grip and head cover make the club stand out… in a good way .

yes callie tour

Quite a soft feel off the face for a blade and the response was fantastic. We found it easy to line up with the perpendicular lines and it filled us with confidence when close to the hole. Extremely comfortable Zebra-style grip, too, One of the best feeling putters out there in our book.

C-Groove technology had the ball rolling straight off the face towards the hole. This is just such a smooth rolling putter. Even when struck off-centre, the C-Groove technology helped us roll the ball much more consistently than some of the others we've tested this year. It was also beautifully balanced and we felt in complete control of the head.

Owned by Adams, it’s easy to see why Yes! are tipped to become the next big headline act on the European scene. Just what you want in a classic blade – consistent, responsive and with the added bonus of looking great. Tremendous value for money. Awesome Zebra-style grip and headcover adds to its appeal.

Celine Dion says she 'could've died' from taking high dosages of Valium to manage Stiff Person Syndrome on tour

  • Celine Dion opens up about her struggle with Stiff Person Syndrome in her new Amazon Prime documentary.
  • Dion says she tried to perform through pain by increasing her medication dosages, especially Valium.
  • "I don't want dramatic, but I could've died," Dion reveals. "Too many pills. The show must go on."

Celine Dion breaks down in tears in her new Amazon Prime documentary, "I Am: Celine Dion," while reflecting on her final concerts before she was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome.

Stiff Person Syndrome, also known as SPS, is a rare, progressive neurological disorder that affects about one in a million people, according to the National Institute of Health . Dion revealed her diagnosis in 2022 , although she says in the doc that she began experiencing symptoms 17 years ago .

Dion tells the camera how SPS has tightened her muscles and caused her vocal cords to spasm , causing her voice to crack and sound thin or strained.

The documentary includes footage from performances in 2018 and 2019, including clips when Dion was struggling to hit certain notes.

"I need my instrument. And my instrument was not working. So we started to elevate the medicine," she explains.

Dion recounts one particular moment at a concert, just as she was about to take the stage, when she felt the effects of her medication wear off.

"From my dressing room, getting backstage, saying good luck to everybody, the crowd insane, my adrenaline, my heartbeat, my pressure, I'm like, 'The dream is about to come true again for me tonight. I love it so much,'" she recalls. "But then I feel a spasm, and my voice goes up. The medicine was burned out. It was gone."

At one point on tour, she says she was taking up to 80 or 90 milligrams of Valium every day. Adults are often prescribed 2 to 10 milligrams, 3 or 4 times a day for muscle spasms — about half the amount Dion was taking. Higher doses can result in coma-like symptoms and can require urgent medical attention.

"That's just one medicine," she says. "I don't want dramatic, but I could've died." While death from overdosing on benzodiazepines is rare , the risk goes up if they're mixed with other drugs or substances such as opioids or alcohol.

"I was taking those medicines because I needed to walk, I needed to be able to swallow. I needed medicine to function," Dion continues. "One more pill, two more pills, five more pills. Too many pills. The show must go on."

Stiff Person Syndrome is a rare disease that impacts the brain, resulting in muscle spasms and stiffness. Not much is known about what causes SPS itself, though it has some autoimmune features . Spasms can be random or triggered by sounds, lights, or stress .

There is no cure for SPS, but it can be managed with muscle relaxants, anti-anxiety medications, and some antibody injections .

Dion completed a 22-show greatest hits tour in 2018 before launching The Courage World Tour in 2019. She postponed the first four shows in Montreal, telling fans she had a throat virus . Later concerts were rescheduled due to a "common cold" before the entire tour was shut down due to COVID-19.

After the tour resumed in 2022, Dion continued canceling and rescheduling shows. When she announced her diagnosis, she decided to cancel all remaining dates.

Dion has said the demands of performing through her pain, as well as the "burden" of lying to her fans , became too much to bear.

"I can't lie anymore," Dion says in the doc. "From a sinus infection to an ear infection to whatever. Sometimes I would point my microphone toward the audience, and I would make them sing it. There's moments where I cheated and I tapped on the microphone like it was the microphone's fault."

The documentary also shows more recent footage of Dion in the recording studio, fighting to project her voice and reach her famous falsetto.

While the producers in the studio with Dion say they're pleased with her vocal progress, Dion says she's not satisfied — especially because she doesn't want to disappoint her fans.

"I'm not quite sure if I'm going to be capable of singing. But I can't live in doubt," Dion explains to the camera. "Maybe I can sing another kind of repertoire. But then it's going to be their choice to still like me or not."

Yes, Scottie Scheffler's 2024 season is actually beginning to rival Tiger Woods' all-time 2000 campaign

Is the no. 1 player in the world having the greatest season in modern pga tour history.

tiger-woods-scottie-scheffler-hero-g.png

Tiger Woods' 2000 PGA Tour season will never be topped ... right? That year, Woods won nine times, captured three major championships, collected almost double the prize money of the second-place finisher on that list (Phil Mickelson) and set the all-time scoring average record of 67.79 (which he later tied).

Woods won the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach by 15 shots. He took the Open Championship at St. Andrews by eight. He won a wild PGA Championship at Valhalla in a playoff.

That one-year run is never getting touched by any golfer, ever ... right?

Though there have been other immense seasons in golf years -- Vijay Singh won nine times in 2004, Tiger won eight events in 1999 and 2006 -- Tiger's 2000 is certainly the gold standard against which all other modern PGA Tour seasons will be measured.

Scottie Scheffler, who on Sunday became the first PGA Tour golfer since Woods in 2009 to win six times in a year, is -- believe it or not -- actually tracking comparably with Woods' 2000 campaign.

Let's take a look at the numbers as they stand through each golfer's first 15 starts ( via Jamie Kennedy ).

It's a stunning comparison. While Scottie does have a Tiger-shaped hole which we'll get to in a minute, he's also staying with him step for step.

It's reasonable to point out that Woods had to face all the best players in the world, while Scheffler does not have to deal with Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith because they no longer play on the PGA Tour. There is also the matter of field strength. A handful of Scheffler's wins have come in smaller-field signature events like the RBC Heritage and Travelers Championship. Surely a couple of those extra 60 or 70 players would have challenged Scheffler for some of his victories.

On the flip side, golfers in 2024 are simply longer and better than they were in 2000 when Tiger was destroying worlds. And there were no signature events when Woods played that required or incentivized participation from all of the best players. If one didn't want to play the Arnold Palmer Invitational or the Nissan Open, he just didn't play them.

The comparison could be argued about for weeks or months, but the variables largely cancel one another out. The difficulty level of what Scheffler is accomplishing is basically equivalent to what Woods faced in 2000.

Now, the clear red mark on Scottie's ledger is obviously that he will not win three majors this year to match Tiger's triple nearly a quarter century ago. Scheffler can grab a second if he takes the Open at Royal Troon, but three is off the board. Then again, Woods didn't win the Players in 2000, which Scottie did a few months ago for the second consecutive year.

Woods also destroys Scheffler in the strokes gained category. This makes sense given the margins Woods was winning (even in majors) by at that time. While you could perhaps bump Scottie's up a bit if you believe fields are better and/or smaller (harder to separate), you're not bumping it up an entire shot. (Even if you did, it's still shy of Tiger's mark.)

There is also the matter of the Olympics. Golf was not an Olympic sport during Woods' 2000 season, but Scheffler will have the opportunity to add a gold medal in Paris. That would certainly be another feather in Scheffler's cap en route to what is becoming one of the most historic seasons in modern PGA Tour history (since 1983).

🚨🚨BREAKING🚨🚨 Scottie Scheffler absolutely smashed what seemed to be one of the most unbreakable #OWGR Tiger Woods records dating since his famous 2000 season! Most OWGR points earned by a player in the first 6 months of a year: 1. Scottie 2024: ~583p 2. Tiger 2000: ~532p pic.twitter.com/WfAtiREqVl — Nosferatu (@VC606) June 23, 2024

Not that he's thinking about any of that right now.

"I don't set long-term goals; I never have," Scheffler said Sunday. "I've always been best just when I stay in the present. I have what I would call dreams and aspirations and those will probably never change, but as far as goals for the year, nothing really changes for me. I show up, and it's most important for me to have the right attitude and try and compete.

"I feel like the team around me this year has done a great job of getting on me a little bit when my attitude is not where it needs to be. I feel like on the golf course Teddy, and I have been as tough this year as we've been in a long time and it's been a lot of fun."

Let's presume for a moment that Scheffler wins out. He said Sunday he's planning on playing the Open, the Olympics and the three FedEx Cup playoff events. That would be 11 victories -- two more than Woods had in 2000 -- along with a likely edge in scoring average, proportion of money earned and top-five finishes. Scheffler would fall one major short (with a PGA asterisk given the complications surrounding his arrest) but have the Players and a gold medal to his name.

Woods' 2000 would probably still get the edge just because it was so iconic, electric and unlike anything that had ever been seen before it. Winning the U.S. Open at Pebble by 15 ?! Come on. But on paper, Scheffler's 2024 would at least rival it. And that's something that no one believed was in the cards for any golfer to achieve, even as recently as a few months ago.

In 2022, Chicago’s mariscos scene took a turn when Big Star , the taco shop run by the owners of the Publican — One Off Hospitality — opened a West Town restaurant emphasizing Mexican seafood . There were signs before the opening that mariscos were about to burst into the mainstream (the city — for years — has had plenty of options, from El Barco to Mariscos La Playa). But when it caught the attention of Chicago’s most successful restaurant groups, it felt inevitable that ceviche, cóctel de mariscos, and pulpo were about to experience a surge in popularity.

Two years later, Mariscos San Pedro , a different type of mariscos restaurant, opened last week along 18th Street in Pilsen, a neighborhood with a large Mexican community — but without tons of mariscos options. Growing up in neighboring Little Village, chef Marcos Ascensio said he didn’t know of many restaurants that specialized in mariscos. Ascensio is one of the masterminds behind Bucktown’s hit Taqueria Chingon , and with his partners Oliver Poilevey and Antonio Incandela, they’ve set out to create a new neighborhood restaurant in the space where Dusek’s earned a Michelin star in 2020.

They gutted the ground-floor space inside 132-year-old Thalia Hall , the concert venue run by 16” On Center, the group that operates Revival Food Hall and Empty Bottle . The main room that greets customers as they enter is more casual, where they can enjoy tacos and lighter fare as they gear up for a concert. The second room stores a wood-burning oven that pushes out scallops with nduja, whole fish — like snapper — and more. The full menu accommodates everyday diners and special occasions from a variety of price points, including decadent seafood platters, San Pedro’s answer to the seafood tower.

Poilevey, who co-owns Le Bouchon with brother Nicolas, says the restaurant was originally tailored to open in Logan Square, but a real estate deal fell through and his crew, along with 16” On Center’s Bruce Finkelman, pivoted to Thalia Hall where they wanted to inject some energy. San Pedro is Poilevey’s fourth restaurant, as he opened Obelix in 2022.

A smattering of seafood.

His restaurants have celebrated Chicago’s diversity with chefs from different backgrounds cooking a variety of food. At San Pedro, Incandela, who’s Italian American, brings over his gourmet choco taco from Chingon, as well as a blue corn macaron and a fire-roasted plantain with piloncillo candied nuts.

San Pedro’s unofficial motto is “fish for the people,” the kind of hospitality that the Poilevys have always exhibited. Walk through the space below. Mariscos San Pedro is now open.

Is this the Summer of Rock? How tours from Creed, Def Leppard, others are igniting fans

They claimed the Summer of Love in 1967 .

2024 is primed to be the Summer of Rock.

Not because rock songs are topping music charts or surging on streamers. They're not. It's because titans of the genre have decided to unleash themselves on the road, giving fans a gluttony of opportunity to revel, whether they prefer hard rock, metal, alternative or punk.

Just look at who is on tour. There are the guitar slingers in Def Leppard, Green Day and Journey; the resurgent Nickelback ; reunions of Jane’s Addiction and Blink-182 ; a 25-year anniversary for Slipknot; adrenalized hits from Avril Lavigne and Alanis Morissette ; and, perhaps most surprisingly, the monster return of Creed, who will embark on the biggest tour of their career July 17. Even those sultans of stadium shows, the Rolling Stones , continue their age-defying lap around the country through July.

As Neil Young once sang , “Rock ‘n’ roll can never die.”

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

This summer, it’s about to thrive.

When it comes to rock fandom, there's 'a fresh new energy,' says Creed frontman

Many of the rockers on tour this summer are pulling in fans from two buckets: those who listened during their heyday (people who remember when you went to MTV to watch music videos) and those who are discovering the greats for the first time (young music fans expanding their musical horizons).

“There is this fresh new energy,” Creed frontman Scott Stapp says. “My 17-year-old is tapping into Nirvana and Soundgarden and old Metallica, and she’s hearing it for the first time. We’ve carried that theme in how we’ve designed this tour, as though there was never time off. This is the 2024 version of what we did in 2002.”

Creed is leading one of the most anticipated tours of the summer. Their Summer of ’99 trek is sold out, according to Live Nation, and will bring openers 3 Doors Down and Finger Eleven, with a rotation of Daughtry , Switchfoot, Tonic and Big Wreck joining certain dates.

It’s the first time in more than a decade that Stapp, guitarist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Phillips have toured, a scenario that Stapp likens to “that friend you have that you don’t talk to every day, but you pick up where you left off. It feels right."

Though many ticketholders likely lived during the Summer of '99 referenced in their tour name, a slice of them are newer fans driven by the use of Creed's songs in viral TikTok videos, the Texas Rangers' use of "Higher" in its pregame soundtrack during its World Series-winning run, and even by Grammy-winning R&B/hip-hop artist SZA giving permission to think Creed is cool, saying "I will be a Creed fan forever" in her 2023 “ SZA: Variety’s Hitmaker of the Year”  interview. Even Live Nation’s statistics show the key demographic of ticket buyers to the band’s tour at 25-34.

Even though Stapp, through a vibrant solo career , and Tremonti, with the successful rock outfit Alter Bridge , have stayed visible, the revival of the band’s popularity has been revelatory.

“It’s not common,” Stapp concedes, “unless you can remind me of someone with this resurgence after this amount of time.”

These rock 'n' rollers are 'clearly the real deal'

Though there are fewer stadium tours in 2024, concert promoter Live Nation reports to USA TODAY that sales for shows in arenas, amphitheaters, theaters and clubs are up double digits year-over-year, with more than 100 million tickets sold so far.

“We have a more diverse set of artists on the road than ever before,” said Omar Al-Joulani, president of touring for Live Nation Concerts. “While many rock bands will be touring, there will also be a wide range of artists across various genres."

Indeed, if there is a through line to this season’s rock-heavy itinerary, it’s that while nostalgia inevitably seeps in, most of the bands filling amphitheaters and stadiums have never been too far from public consciousness, whether with new music or enduring affection for their hits.

More: The Sphere in Las Vegas really is a 'quantum leap' for live music: Inside the first shows

On June 13, perennial stadium-fillers Def Leppard released the stomper “Just Like 73” with guitar ace Tom Morello adding his signature wizardry. Though the band, which dropped “Diamond Star Halos” with the crunchy single “Kick” in 2022, has no shortage of smashes to tear through onstage, the thought of merely trotting out classics is unappealing.

“It would be really lame to be out there as a nostalgia act or doing it for the money,” says Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen , who noted that “Just Like 73” will be on the new set list alongside evergreen fist-pumpers "Pour Some Sugar On Me," "Photograph" and "Armageddon It." “We got into music because we wanted to be in a band, and for us, (playing live) is very easy because you still really want to do it.”

Def Leppard will share this summer’s stadium stretch , which kicks off July 6, with Journey. The Steve Miller Band occupies a regular opening slot, and Cheap Trick and Heart will dot other dates with their melodic guitar rock.

Journey is never far from a spotlight, with “Faithfully” still landing on prom night playlists and, of course, the self-generating popularity of “Don’t Stop Believin’,” which will live on as long as new generations discover “The Sopranos.”

Though the band released the album “Freedom” in 2022, they plan to hit rewind/repeat on the vintage tape deck this tour.

Thanks to the “great chemistry” shared between not just the members of both chart-topping, guitar-forward bands but also their audiences, Journey guitarist and co-founder Neal Schon expects sold-out sing-a-longs across the nation this summer.

“ Def Leppard had a lot of radio success at the same time we did, so history kind of puts us together,” Schon says. “We first met them many years back when they first broke, but you immediately admire people in your same rock arena who are clearly the real deal.”

Is rock ‘n’ roll dead? Yes. No. Maybe? But enjoy it this summer

Most of the artists sweating for your entertainment this summer are close to, if not in, AARP territory – Lavigne is a relative youngster at 39 – and the debate continues about the current state of rock ‘n’ roll and who might maintain longevity to fill amphitheaters and stadiums in 20 years.

Mammoth WVH with Wolfgang Van Halen is the type of rock outfit carrying an old-fashioned torch as they open stadiums with Metallica, play club shows in between and will join Creed for a fall arena run.

Greta Van Fleet spans the globe this summer at a combination of festivals, theaters and arenas, and Dorothy, fronted by singer Dorothy Martin (who duets with Stapp on his single “If These Walls Could Talk” ) is the kind of power-lunged belter who makes you nearly blow a speaker.

Collen believes rock is more of an idea – “People love the idea of a rock star,” he says – and artists he considers rock icons, such as Jimi Hendrix, Mick Jagger and Jim Morrison , have no one in their shadows.

“You’re got getting new versions of that,” Collen says. “I think the image part of rock is dead.”

More: R.E.M. performs together for first time in nearly 20 years

Stapp, meanwhile, points to country music and the cross-pollination of rock and country as a meaningful migration.

“In a weird way, the country music scene is reinvigorating rock,” he says.

The future of rock might be hazy, but for now, there are plenty of guitar amps ready to be turned to 11.

So for those who still want to rock, we salute you.

Travis Kelce Proves He’s an ‘Eras Tour’ Dancer by Performing Taylor Swift’s ‘Karma’ Choreography

Travis Kelce Proves He Is an Eras Tour Dancer by Performing Taylor Swift Karma Choreography

Forget football, Travis Kelce is now officially one of girlfriend Taylor Swift ’s backup dancers.

During Swift’s Eras Tour concert in London on Sunday, June 23, fans captured video footage of Kelce, 34, performing the choreography to “Karma.” While watching Swift, 34, perform her last song of the night, the NFL star was spotted with a huge smile on his face moving his arms and putting his foot out to the side — just like the dancers on stage.

The song, released on Swift’s 2022 Midnights album, ends the three-hour concert, but it has also become somewhat of an anthem for the singer’s relationship with Kelce. In November 2023, Swift changed a lyric in the song to “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs” instead of “Karma is the guy on the screen” while performing in Buenos Aires — and yes, Kelce was at that show .

“When I heard it come out of her mouth, it still shocked me,” he said on “New Heights” at the time. “I was like, ‘Oh … she really just said that.’”

Swift and Kelce went public with their relationship in September 2023, two months after the Kansas City Chiefs player dropped his first hint about the singer. In July 2023, Kelce revealed on “New Heights” that he wanted to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it when she performed at Arrowhead Stadium. It was a missed connection at the time, but the duo eventually struck up a whirlwind romance.

Since they started dating, Kelce has become a fixture at Swift’s Eras Tour shows, which explains why he knows the “Karma” choreography. During the same concert on Sunday, Kelce also proved that he’s well-versed in the new Tortured Poets Department section of the show.

Swifties could not contain their excitement when Kelce made a surprise appearance on stage in London ahead of “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.” Every night, Swift’s dancers get her ready for the song as she pretends to throw a tantrum. On Sunday, Kelce carried her over to the couch on stage and took part in the ruse.

Travis Kelce joining Taylor Swift on stage during her run of London shows for The Eras Tour made for an incredible NFL-related moment this week.

But it is not the only NFL-related moment the London portion of The Eras Tour has provided.

Joining Travis in London for these run of shows is his brother Jason, and Jason’s partner Kylie. The recently-retired NFL center has been spotted showing off his own armful of friendship bracelets, and waving to fans while walking back to their spot for the show while holding some ... we’ll go with refreshments.

But this moment making the rounds on social media Tuesday certainly tops those. Watch as Jason comes across a young fan wearing one of the center’s throwback Philadelphia Eagles ’ jerseys. Jason introduces himself to the young fan, leaving them bewildered and almost overwhelmed:

. @JasonKelce noticed this fan wearing his jersey at The Eras Tour and surprised him with a picture. (via @bjw007 ) pic.twitter.com/wZn1I0CcXK — NFL (@NFL) June 25, 2024

The young fan is left speechless as Jason surprises him.

Shortly thereafter, the photographs made it to social media as well:

Life goal completed for 2 UK Eagles. Shame I look slack but the camera doesn't lie #jasonkelce #phillyeagles #gobirds @JasonKelce #erastour pic.twitter.com/7GliqfjAjj — baz (@bjw007) June 23, 2024

The perfect NFL-related content to get us through to training camp.

Trying to figure out the head weight of a Yes! Callie Tour putter. It's all black and says "c groove callie tour" on the sole. It's not the callie-f or callie-fc.
