2024’s Best Hair Color Trends Are Unbelievably Warm and Buttery

By Chloe Metzger

2024 hair color trends

We have only one resolution for this upcoming year: Experiment with more hair color trends (and, like, finally figure out the difference between a Roth IRA and 401k. But mostly the hair thing). “The 2024 hair color trends are a bit more conservative and natural than we’ve been seeing,” says hairstylist and colorist Chaz Dean . “We’re in the scaled-back era where highlights are more blended and hair colors are more realistic.” But don’t think “natural” is code for “boring” — because 2024’s hair color trends are anything but.

This year, bronde is getting a bite-size update in the form of a baby balayage, while chunky highlights are being swapped for warm caramel pieces that melt around your mid-lengths. Even the ever-trendy buttercream blonde and mushroom brown are being heated up to keep them fresh and wearable for the new year. “Subtle dimension, warm tones, and major shine are key for 2024,” says New York City colorist Sachi Kumagai .

Of course, the perfect hair color requires the perfect inspo, which is why we chatted with the industry’s top experts for their insights on the best hair color trends of 2024 and how to get a similar look at the salon. Honestly, this might be the one year we actually keep our resolution.

  • Tiffanie Richards is a master colorist at Louise O'Connor Salon in New York City.
  • Chaz Dean is a hairstylist, colorist, and founder of Wen Hair Care .
  • Meri Kate O’Connor is a Los Angeles-based hairstylist and colorist at Salon Benjamin .
  • Sachi Kumagai is a master colorist at Warren Tricomi salon in New York City.

Y2K beauty trends dominated 2023, including a resurgence of bright, chunky, look-at-me highlights. For 2024, however, highlights are warming up and melting down across brunettes. “Instead of the harsh lines of demarcation we’ve been seeing, these highlights are softer and more lived in,” says Dean. His key to this melted effect? Keep the bleach away from your roots. “Having a blended shadow root allows you to go up to six months without being beholden to your colorist,” he says.

Just note that this caramelized look is inherently warm, so it tends to suit warm skin tones best. “It really makes your skin come alive, especially when you have that pop around your face,” says Dean. If your skin tone is on the cooler side, Meri Kate O’Connor , a Los Angeles-based hairstylist and colorist at Salon Benjamin , recommends asking your colorist about chestnut or golden highlights instead. “These shades have a mix of warm and cool tones that can be suitable for all skin tones,” she says.

Buttercream blonde

Apologies to the dairy haters, but buttercream blonde is only getting richer and creamier for 2024 (think: a touch warmer than 2023’s blanched version). “Warm buttery tones are perfect for those who love a bright and shiny blonde since the gold helps reflect light,” says O’Connor. That’s not to say we’re careening into Kerrygold territory though, especially with the upcoming chilly seasons. “2024’s buttercream is a muted version of a warm summer blonde that also enhances the rosiness of your winter cheeks,” says Tiffanie Richards , a master colorist at Louise O'Connor Salon in New York City.

If you’re working with brunette hair and aren’t quite ready to hit the full bottle of bleach, Richards recommends asking your stylist for subtle buttercream babylights instead. “The mix of brunette with buttercream blonde will create an overall ashy look that's perfect for cooler weather,” she says.

Porcini brown

mushroom brown hair on jessica alba — 2024 hair color trends

In years past, mushroom brown has been synonymous with…cold. Cold, ashy, gray, and washed-out — which, might we remind you, bears little resemblance to the true bronzy tones of an actual mushroom. “ Mushroom hair started out as drastic and bold, but it’s landing in a much more wearable place for 2024,” says Dean. “We’re nearing the end of the super-cold and smoky gray , and we’re seeing it be replaced with a softer and more realistic mushroom brown.” Which, in case you don’t have your carton of porcinis on hand, looks like a neutral taupe with golden tones.

“The beauty and popularity of true mushroom brown is that it’s inspired by the range of browns we’re naturally born with,” says Richards. Because the shade toes the line between warm and cool, it can work with virtually all skin tones and undertones, whether you go for a single-process shade or mushroom-brown highlights . Just note that a true neutral bronde tone is tricky to maintain in summer months due to sunlight oxidation, says Richards. If you’re hoping for a realistic mushroom hue that lasts, you may want to test this color out in early spring, fall, or winter.

Toasted pecan red

toasted pecan hair — 2024 hair color trends

“It’s inevitable that red-browns will be a hit for cooler weather, especially into 2024,” says Richards. Last year birthed the rise of cherry-cola hair , while this coming year will give way to pecan-red hair — a richly saturated, highly glossy auburn (like a hot and gooey pecan pie). “The color pairs perfectly with pale skin, while also enhancing the natural glow of deeper skin tones,” she notes.

Toasted pecan red is also a great stepping stone to the brighter and bolder red shades we’re going to see in 2024, thanks to its subtle tone. “It doesn’t skew too red or too orange, so it’s a good way to try a semi-red color before fully committing,” says Kumagai. She recommends asking your stylist for a red-hued toner if you’re starting with medium-brown hair, or you can attempt a similar look at home with a semi-permanent dye or temporary auburn color, like Wella Color Fresh in Copper Glow or Morrocanoil Color Depositing Mask in Bordeaux .

amber glow — 2024 hair color trends

Nestled between strawberry blonde and copper-orange is the ethereal amber glow. “If you mix a golden tone with copper, you end up with this beautiful amber shade that has a way of complementing any skin tone and eye color,” says Richards. The bronzy color exudes warmth without feeling brassy, and its rich hue gives even fine hair the illusion of major depth and dimension. “It’s perfect for damaged or dry hair, because its warm tones will make hair look rich and healthy,” says Kumagai.

If you want to up the glow factor, both experts suggest asking your stylist for thin and subtle highlights all over, or just along your hairline to brighten your face (“less is more here,” says Richards). Or, you can ask for a single-process golden copper for a monochromatic amber finish.

Baby balayage

baby balayage — 2024 hair color trends

No, we’re not headed back to 2016 (although we wouldn’t mind dusting off our cut-crease palettes), but our experts agree that we are about to see a resurgence of balayages — specifically baby balayages with a toned-down twist. As with most of 2024’s hair color trends, “subtle” is the keyword, so the next iteration of balayages will be “hand-painted on the edges of your hair to leave you with natural-looking dimension ,” says Kumagai. She recommends asking your stylist for a feathered balayage on just the ends of your hair to keep it subtle.

Dark chocolate bouclé

dark chocolate hair — 2024 hair color trends

There’s a reason why bouclé has been on every interior designer’s mood board in 2023: It oozes quiet luxury (which is only fitting for a French word). Close up, it’s highly textured and dimensional, but from far away, it looks simple and unassuming. So it’s no surprise that bouclé has become prime hair-color inspo for 2024, particularly for creating natural-looking depth and movement in brunette waves and curls .

“Pairing the richness of a dark-chocolate base color with the softness of a super-tiny babylight creates an illusion within the layers of your hair,” says Richards, who stresses the importance of asking for minimal, barely there color. “The highlights should be almost undetectable — only a half-shade or full-shade lighter than your base color — to add dimension and definition to curls.”

Midnight black

midnight black on billie eilish — 2024 hair color trends

If highlights , babylights, lowlights, or anything lights just aren’t your thing (whattup, my frugal box-dye brethren), we have good news: monochromatic black is trending for 2024. “There's something so lavish about having a rich and shiny solid hair color that will never go out of style,” says O’Connor. Though you can experiment with any hair color for this trend, you should expect to see pitch-black hues all over your social feeds in the coming months. O’Connor recommends asking your stylist for an all-over color, then keeping the shine fresh with a once-monthly gloss , like DpHue Glossy Glaze or L’Oreal Le Color Gloss One Step Toning Gloss .

red velvet hair — 2024 hair color trends

A bold, in-your-face color? For 2024? Told you this year wouldn’t be boring. “ Reds will continue to have their moment in 2024,” says O’Connor. “The brighter, the better, like a red-velvet crimson .” Unlike red-velvet cake, though — which is just chocolate with some food coloring (sorry) — red-velvet hair is an expert-level art form. “With reds, it’s always good to think of how it will contrast with your skin tone and eye color,” says O’Connor. “A cool-toned red, for example, will complement someone with pink undertones, while a copper-toned red can make blue eyes stand out.”

Of course, that’s not to say you need an MFA to get the best red. “Ask your colorist, ‘does this work for me, or is there something better for my skin tone?’” Dean suggests. “Colorists should be educating you on the right shade for your skin tone, and you should trust them enough to take their advice.” You’ll also want to set some realistic expectations. “Upkeep on reds can be a lot, and this is one of the hardest colors to keep,” says O’Connor, who recommends coloring your roots and getting a glaze every four to six weeks. Or, you can make like hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos , who used Lime Crime's Unicorn Hair in Valentine to create Megan Fox’s recent red-velvet bob .

Embracing hair for its various meanings

Students of byu-hawaii say their hairstyles honor heritage as well as create connection and empowerment.

Three girls laugh while looking at each other standing under a palm tree

Hair is a symbol of who they are and where they come from, said BYU–Hawaii students. Garlyna Singo from Vanuatu said she is inspired by her cultural heritage to showcase her curly hair. She said hair is more than just a style. “It's a source of confidence and pride, reflecting her identity and empowering others to embrace their natural beauty.”

Similarly, Fatafehi Tuihalamaka, from Tonga, said, “Hair is a sign of respect.” Theses two students along with BYUH student Agnes Sio all said hair is uniquely important to them for different reasons.

The cultural significance of hair

Singo, a sophomore majoring in business management, expresses her love for her hair by showcasing its natural beauty, she said. She likes to try lots of styles “such as loose curls, braids or updos, depending on the occasion and my personal preferences,” she said.

Reflecting on her earliest hair memory, Singo recalled joyous moments she spent bonding with her cousin while having her hair styled. This was a crucial experience, she said, that instilled in her the significance of hair as a means of self-expression. She shared, “We would sit outside on a mat, and she would carefully work through my thick, curly hair, making it look beautiful. The smell of coconut oil was always in the air,” she reminisced. These sessions were more than just about styling hair. “While she styled my hair, we would tell stories and laugh about anything. She taught me how to take care of my hair and to appreciate its natural beauty.”

A girl standing in profile, smiling off into the distance

“These times were really special because they made me feel loved and important. Through these moments, I learned that my hair is not just hair. It's a big part of who I am and where I come from,” she explained. The love and care she received during these sessions helped her see her natural hair as something to be proud of, she added. “It also reminds me of the strong bond we share and the love she showed me.”

Her current hair style of box braids is a traditional Vanuatuan hairstyle, she said. This is how she honors her cultural heritage and celebrates her uniqueness, she said. The goal, she explained, is to “always feel naturally beautiful.”

Tuihalamaka, a sophomore from Tonga majoring in Pacific Island Studies, said, “Hair allows me to care for and embrace my authentic self and boost my confidence with different hairstyles.” In Tongan culture, Tuihalamaka explained, hair is a very beautiful thing that makes women stand out. One cultural practice around hair, she explained, is when a girl’s father dies, the father’s older sister will cut the daughters’ hair. This is a sign of respect, she said.

A girl smiles up from the camera as she sits on a grass lawn

Reflecting on hairstyle trends, Tuihalamaka expressed her fondness for a particular style, saying, “Flippy layers and flippy hair have a nostalgic look. It's a 2000’s look, and since I’m a 2000 baby, I love the inspiration of it. They also make it easier for a fresh look and a bouncy blowout.”

The connection between hair and self

Agnes Sio, a senior from Ohio majoring in political science, said when she was younger, her mom cut her hair short because it was easier to manage. Now Sio grows her hair long.“For me, my hair gives me a sense of beauty because it gives me confidence and I use it almost as a tool in that way,” she added. “I love being able to do different hairstyles with it because of the length. My hair is also what I feel makes me unique because I have many nicknames because of my hair,” she continued, citing examples like Rapunzel, mermaid and Goldilocks.

“I've had strangers come to me and know me by my hair,” she said. Sio expressed her inability to imagine herself with short hair anymore. “I love being able to have something that sticks me out from the rest and gives me a unique quality. I love my hair and am grateful to Heavenly Father for giving me this beautiful gift,” said Sio.

What Does Dreaming About Hair Mean?

Have you ever had a dream about hair and wondered what it might mean? Dreams about hair can reveal hidden messages about your subconscious thoughts and emotions. In this section, we will explore the symbolic meaning and significance of dreaming about hair, allowing you to gain a deeper understanding of your dreams’ meanings.

Whether you dream about cutting your hair, losing your hair, or simply admiring someone else’s hair, these dreams can offer insights into your identity, self-image, and personal power. By examining the symbolism behind hair dreams, you can better understand the messages your dreams are trying to convey.

Key Takeaways:

  • Dreams about hair can offer valuable insights into your subconscious thoughts and emotions.
  • The symbolism of hair in dreams relates to identity, self-image, and personal power.

The Symbolism of Hair in Dreams

You may have heard the saying, “hair is a woman’s crowning glory,” but did you know that hair also carries significant symbolic meaning in dreams? Dreams about hair can represent various aspects of your identity, self-image, and personal power. By interpreting the symbolism behind your hair dreams, you can gain valuable insights into your subconscious thoughts and emotions.

Here are some interpretations of hair symbolism in dreams:

It’s important to note that hair symbolism in dreams can vary depending on the individual’s personal associations and cultural context. For example, in some cultures, long hair may be associated with royalty or status, while in others, short hair may be a symbol of rebellion or non-conformity.

The Connection Between Hair and Personal Power

One common interpretation of hair symbolism in dreams is related to personal power. Hair is often seen as a representation of one’s strength, beauty, or confidence. In dreams, hair can reflect your level of self-esteem or your ability to assert yourself in certain situations.

For example, dreams about hair falling out or being cut may indicate a loss of personal power or a lack of control over a particular area of your life. On the other hand, dreams about styling or cutting your hair may suggest a desire to take charge and make changes in your life.

The Role of Gender in Hair Dreams

Another aspect of hair symbolism in dreams is related to gender. Hair is often associated with femininity and beauty, particularly for women. Dreams about hair may therefore be influenced by societal expectations and perceptions of gender roles.

For example, dreams about long, flowing hair may represent a desire to embody traditional feminine qualities, while dreams about short or shaved hair may indicate a rejection of these gender norms. However, it’s important to note that hair dreams can be significant for individuals of all genders and may have different meanings depending on personal associations and cultural context.

Overall, interpreting the symbolism of hair in dreams can offer valuable insights into your subconscious thoughts and emotions. By paying attention to the imagery and feelings surrounding your hair dreams, you can gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your personal growth.

Different Types of Hair Dreams

There are many different types of hair dreams that you may experience, each with its own unique interpretation. By understanding the different variations, you can gain a deeper understanding of the messages your dreams are trying to convey. Here are some common examples:

Keep in mind that these interpretations are not set in stone and may vary depending on the context of your dream and your personal experiences. Trust your intuition and don’t be afraid to explore the deeper meanings behind your hair dreams.

Dream Analysis: What Losing Hair in Dreams Signifies

If you’ve ever dreamed of losing hair, it can be a troubling experience. However, this dream can carry significant meaning related to vulnerability, loss of control, or fears of aging.

In some cases, hair loss in dreams may indicate feelings of powerlessness or a sense of being exposed. This dream can occur after a major life change, such as a job loss, breakup, or health issue. Losing hair in a dream can also symbolize a fear of losing one’s beauty, youth, or attractiveness.

If you dream of losing large clumps of hair, it can represent a loss of self-esteem, confidence, or identity. This dream may indicate a fear of losing one’s power and control over a particular situation or person. It can also symbolize the need to let go of past regrets or traumas and move forward with a fresh start.

Dream Analysis: What to Do If You Dream of Losing Hair

If you experience hair loss in a dream, it is essential to evaluate your current waking life and identify any sources of stress or anxiety. Consider if there are any changes or challenges you are facing that may be affecting your self-image or confidence.

Reflect on any fears or insecurities you may be harboring and take steps to address them. Practicing self-care, seeking support from loved ones, or working with a therapist can help alleviate stress and promote a stronger sense of self.

The Meaning of Dreams About Cutting or Styling Hair

If you’ve recently had a dream where you were cutting or styling your hair, you may be wondering what it could mean. Dreams about hair cutting or styling might indicate a desire for change or transformation in your life. Perhaps you’re considering a major change in your appearance or making significant life decisions.

In some cases, dreams about hair cutting or styling may also reflect a desire to take control of your life. Are you feeling powerless or overwhelmed in your waking life? This dream could be a message from your subconscious, urging you to take charge and make your own decisions.

The Symbolism of Cutting Hair in Dreams

Dreams about cutting hair can symbolize the need to release emotional attachments from the past, including negative experiences or relationships. Alternatively, it might represent a desire to let go of negative emotions, such as guilt or regret. In some cases, this dream might also indicate that you’re ready to break free from your current circumstances and start anew.

The Symbolism of Styling Hair in Dreams

Styling hair in your dreams can represent the desire to improve your appearance to boost your self-esteem. Alternatively, it might indicate that you’re looking to express your creativity in new ways. Styling hair in a dream can also be a message to focus more on your personal grooming and self-care routine.

Overall, dreams about hair cutting or styling can be highly personal and dependent on your specific life circumstances. Taking the time to reflect on your emotional state and life circumstances can help you decipher the unique message your dream is trying to convey.

Dreams About Hair Color: What Do They Symbolize?

Have you ever dreamed about hair that’s a different color than your own? The color of hair in dreams can often carry significant symbolism related to emotions, personality traits, or societal expectations. Here are some possible interpretations of different hair colors in dreams:

Remember that these interpretations are not absolute and can vary depending on the context of the dream. For example, dreaming of dyeing your hair red could mean something different than dreaming of someone else having red hair. Consider the emotions and events in the dream, as well as your own personal associations with different hair colors.

Interpreting Dreams About Hair Color

When analyzing hair color in dreams, ask yourself:

  • How did the hair color make you feel in the dream?
  • Does the hair color reflect qualities you associate with yourself or others in your life?
  • What events or emotions in your waking life could relate to the hair color or the symbolism it represents?

By reflecting on these questions, you can gain a deeper understanding of the hidden messages behind your hair color dreams.

Dreams About Hair Growth: What Does It Indicate?

Have you ever had dreams of your hair growing longer and longer? Dreams about hair growth can signify personal growth, new opportunities, or a sense of vitality. In these dreams, you may feel a sense of pride or excitement as you watch your hair grow and flourish.

The symbolism of hair growth in dreams is closely related to the growth of a plant or tree. Just as a flourishing plant indicates health and vitality, hair growth in dreams can reflect positive changes in your life. It may indicate that you are on the path to achieving your goals, or that you are experiencing personal growth and transformation.

Alternatively, dreams about hair growth can also be interpreted as a sign of renewed strength and energy. If you have been feeling drained or exhausted in waking life, the dream may be telling you to focus on self-care and rejuvenation.

Whether you are experiencing positive changes in your personal or professional life, or simply need to recharge your batteries, dreams about hair growth can serve as a powerful reminder of your inner strength and potential.

Dreams About Hair Extensions or Wigs: Unveiling the Symbolism

If you have dreamed about hair extensions or wigs, you may be wondering what these dreams could mean. Such dreams can symbolize a desire for transformation or an attempt to conceal one’s true self. Hair extensions or wigs are often used to enhance or alter someone’s appearance, and these dreams can reflect similar desires for change or reinvention.

When interpreting dreams about hair extensions or wigs, it is essential to consider the context of the dream. For example, if you dreamed of wearing a wig because you were embarrassed about your hair, this could indicate a lack of confidence or self-esteem. On the other hand, if you dreamed of wearing hair extensions to impress someone, this could signify a desire for approval or validation from others.

In some cases, these dreams could also reflect feelings of dissatisfaction with your current appearance or lifestyle. Hair extensions or wigs represent an opportunity to look and feel different, and dreaming about them could indicate a need for change or a desire to break free from the status quo.

Ultimately, the symbolism behind dreams about hair extensions or wigs is unique to each individual. By analyzing the context and emotions surrounding these dreams, you can gain a deeper understanding of what they mean for you personally.

The Role of Cultural and Historical Context in Hair Dreams

As with many symbols in dreams, the meaning of hair can vary depending on cultural and historical context. In some cultures, hair is associated with power, strength, and virility, while in others, it may represent humility, modesty, or even shame.

For example, in ancient Greece, long hair was seen as a symbol of beauty and youth, while in medieval Europe, it was often associated with religious piety. In many African cultures, hair is intricately tied to identity, with specific hairstyles signifying one’s tribe, status, or even profession. Similarly, in Native American cultures, hair is believed to be a conduit for spiritual energy, and is often treated with great respect.

It’s important to consider your own cultural background and experiences when interpreting hair dreams. Your personal associations with hair may be vastly different from those of someone from a different culture or time period. By exploring the cultural and historical context of hair symbolism, you can gain a deeper understanding of how your own beliefs and values may influence your dreams.

The Connection Between Hair Dreams and Daily Life

Have you ever woken up from a dream about hair and wondered what it meant? While hair dreams may seem bizarre or insignificant, they can actually hold valuable insights into our waking lives and subconscious thoughts.

When interpreting hair dreams, it’s important to consider any connections to your daily experiences. For example, dreaming about cutting your hair may represent a desire for change or a need to take control of a situation in your life. Similarly, dreaming about losing hair may reflect feelings of vulnerability or loss of power in a particular aspect of your life.

Perhaps the most significant aspect of hair dreams is their connection to our sense of identity and self-image. Dreams about hair can reveal deep-seated fears or insecurities related to our appearance or social standing. For instance, dreaming about having long, luxurious hair may reflect a desire for recognition or admiration from others.

Ultimately, the meaning of hair dreams is highly personal and can vary based on your individual experiences and emotions. By paying attention to the connections between your hair dreams and your daily life, you can gain valuable insights into your subconscious thoughts and experiences.

The Secrets Behind Your Hair Dreams

Have you ever woken up from a dream where your hair was the main focus? Perhaps you dreamt about cutting it, losing it, or even dyeing it a different color. Hair symbolism in dreams can be complex and multifaceted, but it’s important to pay attention to your hair dreams as they can offer valuable insights into your subconscious. Here’s how you can unlock the secrets behind your hair dreams:

1. Pay Attention to the Details

When trying to interpret your hair dreams, it’s essential to take note of all the details. Was your hair short or long? Was it styled or messy? What was the color? All of these details can hold significant meaning and provide clues to the overall message of the dream.

2. Consider the Symbolism

Hair in dreams often represents identity, self-image, and personal power. For example, long hair may symbolize femininity, while baldness can indicate feelings of vulnerability or loss of control. By understanding the symbolism of hair in dreams, you can gain a deeper insight into your subconscious thoughts and emotions.

3. Connect with Your Daily Life

Pay attention to how your hair dreams may relate to your waking life. Are you going through a period of change or transformation? Are you struggling with self-image or personal power? By connecting your hair dreams with your daily life experiences, you can gain a better understanding of how your subconscious is processing and dealing with these situations.

4. Explore Cultural and Historical Context

Hair symbolism in dreams can also be influenced by cultural or historical context. Different cultures and historical periods have attributed various meanings to hair, such as strength, fertility, or societal expectations. In some cultures, hair dreams are even believed to hold prophetic messages. Exploring these influences can provide valuable context to your hair dreams.

5. Embrace the Mystery

Remember that dream interpretation is not an exact science and can vary depending on the individual. Don’t get too caught up in finding the “right” interpretation of your hair dreams. Instead, embrace the mystery and allow yourself to sit with the emotions and insights that your dreams provide. Cody Edwards manslaughter plea accepted during Synamin Bell murder trial in Mount Gambier

A young woman with long brown hair

A man accused of murdering his girlfriend in South Australia's South East has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, which the prosecution has accepted.

Cody James Edwards' defence was due to start in his Supreme Court murder trial in Mount Gambier this morning.

Instead, Edwards was re-arraigned and pleaded not guilty to murder again before pleading guilty to manslaughter.

The 27-year-old was accused of killing mother-of-three Synamin Bell, 26, in her house in Millicent two years ago.

Ms Bell and Edwards were in a relationship and were living together at Ms Bell's Millicent home before she was found dead in her bedroom on March 12, 2022 .

Edwards was arrested immediately and pleaded not guilty to Ms Bell's alleged murder three days later .

Ms Bell's sisters, who left the court quickly after the plea, told the ABC the outcome was "a joke".

Edwards' lawyer, Steven Millsteed KC, declined to comment.

Self-defence claim

Last Wednesday, when the trial began , Mr Millsteed said the defence planned to argue that Edwards was acting in self-defence when he killed Ms Bell.

He said Edwards experienced a "full-blown paranoia psychosis" on the night of Ms Bell's death after consuming psychoactive drugs.

He said Edwards, in his psychotic state, believed Ms Bell intended to kill him so used the force that resulted in her death.

The trial was being heard in front of Supreme Court Justice Adam Kimber alone.

Justice Kimber ordered a pre-sentence report on Edwards, with particular focus on his behaviour since being taken into custody.

Edwards will return to court for sentencing submissions in September in Adelaide.

More than 50 injuries to victim

The court yesterday heard from forensic pathologist Neil Langlois, who told the court that Ms Bell died of blunt force head trauma caused by multiple blows to the left of her skull.

Dr Langlois was unable to say how many blows there were or which one killed her.

"It does appear some of the blows have been while she has been lying there but most likely unconscious," he said.

Overall, Dr Langlois noted 54 injuries or sets of injuries during his autopsy, including some, such as stab wounds to her back, that appeared to have occurred after her death.

Some of the injuries appeared to be from the end of a baseball bat, while others seemed to be from a dumbbell bar.

"I cannot determine which weapon or weapons were used to cause the fatal head injury," Dr Langlois said.

The court heard a metal bar was also found across the road from Ms Bell's house in Millicent with blood and hair on it.

Under defence cross-examination, Dr Langlois told the court other causes for blunt force trauma to Ms Bell's arms and back could not be ruled out.

When Mr Millsteed asked Dr Langlois if the injuries could have been caused by Edwards grappling with Ms Bell on a bed, or Ms Bell falling off the bed onto an object, Dr Langlois told the court it was "possible".

"It is very difficult — extremely difficult — from injuries themselves to say what has happened," Dr Langlois told the court.

Meaning of “Voyage, Voyage” by Desireless

by SMF · Published August 7, 2017 · Updated September 8, 2020

Voyage, Voyage is a song performed by French singer Desireless . The lyrics of the song, which are entirely written in French, talk about traveling – traveling to many beautiful, wonderful and sacred destinations all over the world. The French word for “travel”, as some readers might already know, is “voyage”. So the English translation of the title “Voyage Voyage” is “Travel Travel”. Lyrically, Voyage, Voyage encourages the listener to travel and travel and never stop traveling

In the song, some of the notable and wonderful places mentioned include the following:

  • Mount Fuji (Fujiyama), which at a height of 12, 389 ft, is the highest mountain in Japan.
  • The Ganges (also known as Ganga), which is a famous river that flows through Bangladesh and India. The Ganges is one of the largest rivers in the world and a lifeline to millions of people in the two countries that it passes through.
  • The legendary Amazon rainforest located in South America.
  • The Sahara desert, which is located in North Africa. The Sahara is the largest hot desert in the world.

The lyrics of Voyage, Voyage basically encourage eternal traveling, through the above wonderful and breathtaking places and many more.

Voyage, Voyage by Desireless.

Facts about “Voyage, Voyage” by Desireless

  • The song was the first song Desireless released as a professional musician. The song came out in December 1986 and was a single from her debut album François .
  • Contrary to popular belief, Voyage, Voyage wasn’t written by Desireless (whose real name is Claudie Fritsch-Mentrop). The song was written by songwriters Dominique Albert Dubois and Jean-Michel Rivat, who handled the production of the song.
  • Voyage, Voyage was one of the most popular songs in Europe in the 1980s, reaching the number one spot in several European countries, including Germany, Denmark, Spain, and Greece. Ironically it failed to reach number one in her own home country of France.
  • Till date, the song, which Desireless sang entirely in her native tongue French, remains one of the few non English language songs to have been able to achieve the remarkable feat of becoming an international hit.
  • Voyage, Voyage was so successful it sold over 5 million copies globally, making it one of the most successful French songs ever written.
  • Since Voyage, voyage was released in December 1986, the song has been covered by several artists. The most famous cover of the song was by Belgian singer and songwriter Kae Ryan in 2008. Kate’s cover was also very successful in Europe.

Thank you I always wondered what the song was about, now if only someone could explain the video LOL

Yeah! Especially with the globe inflating guy next to the tall super random dancing guy

Travel abroad gives one new perspectives and you’re exosed to new ideas.

Thus enabling you to recognize the Insane Asylum you escaped from.

This song, in my opinion, is about totally the opposite of encouragement to travel. It is a twist.

The fact that the artist is also called Desireless (without desires) points to a different meaning. The song is about being drawn by the external World and the senses, where people loose themselves in desires. At a point you can see a reference to a Hindu God in those images on the wall, which might point to a more philosophical interpretation as well.

There is also this part of lyrics: “Travel, travel, further than the night and the day Travel, in spaces unheard of by love” “spaces unhears of by love” seems to point out that those travels, which people are supposedly encouraged to, are actually worldy things that take them away from Love – the true meaning of life.

Notice also how the artist is stopping and looking directly at you with a cold look, possibly asking you: “do you really think that those travels and pleasures bring you closer to love and life?”.

What do you think?

i think you got the key

Reminds me of 1980s ski trips

@daniel michalski very thoughtful and intelligent comment, thank you. True Art is seldomly one dimensional so it revers the piece and the spectator to inspire those interesting insights.

Intelligent comment and thank you for sharing. Here is my interpretation of the video. I see people gambling with a love of money, people eating like a glutton, people kissing…doing strange things and then all these people end up meeting in front of the slide show. sometimes we are too caugh in our lives and “desires” that we forget to “open” ourselves and see the real world….The lyrics evoke travel departures while implicitly evoking a spiritual dimension via the inner journey. Desireless is seen singing while slides of different destinations are projected behind her. In the background, she invites travelers to reach a tropical destination. The other option is that This clip is set in a mental hospital, is much darker than it looks

I agree! Especially with: “The lyrics evoke travel departures while implicitly evoking a spiritual dimension via the inner journey.”

I think Daniel is pretty spot on with the meaning. Only listening to the lyrics and watching the music video are two entirely different songs. Regarding the video, it seems the song is more sensually oriented. The lyrics: “Travel Travel Voyage, voyage

On the sacred water of an Indian river (journey, journey) Sur l’eau sacrée d’un fleuve indien (voyage, voyage)”

seem to encourage this type of pursuit, although it will in the end be fruitless. You have an old businessman dancing with a young man and kicking the world away, like he does not care. It all seems very French hah!

[…] is a French singer best known for her smash hit single Voyage Voyage from her debut album titled François. Voyage Voyage was so commercially successful it sold […]

Hair loss (alopecia) can affect just your scalp or your entire body, and it can be temporary or permanent. It can be the result of heredity, hormonal changes, medical conditions or a normal part of aging. Anyone can lose hair on their head, but it's more common in men.

Baldness typically refers to excessive hair loss from your scalp. Hereditary hair loss with age is the most common cause of baldness. Some people prefer to let their hair loss run its course untreated and unhidden. Others may cover it up with hairstyles, makeup, hats or scarves. And still others choose one of the treatments available to prevent further hair loss or restore growth.

Before pursuing hair loss treatment, talk with your doctor about the cause of your hair loss and treatment options.

In men, hair often begins to recede from the forehead.

  • Male-pattern baldness

Male-pattern baldness typically appears first at the hairline or top of the head. It can progress to partial or complete baldness.

Women tend to lose hair along the part.

  • Female-pattern baldness

Female-pattern baldness typically starts with scalp hairs becoming progressively less dense. Many women first experience hair thinning and hair loss where they part their hair and on the top-central portion of the head.

Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata) is sometimes preceded by itchy or painful scalp.

  • Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata)

In the type of patchy hair loss known as alopecia areata, hair loss occurs suddenly and usually starts with one or more circular bald patches that may overlap.

Repeated stress on the hair can cause a type of hair loss called traction alopecia.

  • Traction alopecia

Hair loss can occur if you wear pigtails, braids or cornrows, or use tight hair rollers. This is called traction alopecia.

It's becoming increasingly common for menopausal women to experience frontal fibrosing alopecia, in which the hairline moves back.

  • Frontal fibrosing alopecia

Early treatment of a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia) might help avoid significant permanent baldness. The cause of this condition is unknown, but it primarily affects older women.

Hair loss can appear in many different ways, depending on what's causing it. It can come on suddenly or gradually and affect just your scalp or your whole body.

Signs and symptoms of hair loss may include:

  • Gradual thinning on top of head. This is the most common type of hair loss, affecting people as they age. In men, hair often begins to recede at the hairline on the forehead. Women typically have a broadening of the part in their hair. An increasingly common hair loss pattern in older women is a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia).
  • Circular or patchy bald spots. Some people lose hair in circular or patchy bald spots on the scalp, beard or eyebrows. Your skin may become itchy or painful before the hair falls out.
  • Sudden loosening of hair. A physical or emotional shock can cause hair to loosen. Handfuls of hair may come out when combing or washing your hair or even after gentle tugging. This type of hair loss usually causes overall hair thinning but is temporary.
  • Full-body hair loss. Some conditions and medical treatments, such as chemotherapy for cancer, can result in the loss of hair all over your body. The hair usually grows back.
  • Patches of scaling that spread over the scalp. This is a sign of ringworm. It may be accompanied by broken hair, redness, swelling and, at times, oozing.

When to see a doctor

See your doctor if you are distressed by persistent hair loss in you or your child and want to pursue treatment. For women who are experiencing a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia), talk with your doctor about early treatment to avoid significant permanent baldness.

Also talk to your doctor if you notice sudden or patchy hair loss or more than usual hair loss when combing or washing your or your child's hair. Sudden hair loss can signal an underlying medical condition that requires treatment.

People typically lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. This usually isn't noticeable because new hair is growing in at the same time. Hair loss occurs when new hair doesn't replace the hair that has fallen out.

Hair loss is typically related to one or more of the following factors:

  • Family history (heredity). The most common cause of hair loss is a hereditary condition that happens with aging. This condition is called androgenic alopecia, male-pattern baldness and female-pattern baldness. It usually occurs gradually and in predictable patterns — a receding hairline and bald spots in men and thinning hair along the crown of the scalp in women.
  • Hormonal changes and medical conditions. A variety of conditions can cause permanent or temporary hair loss, including hormonal changes due to pregnancy, childbirth, menopause and thyroid problems. Medical conditions include alopecia areata (al-o-PEE-she-uh ar-e-A-tuh), which is immune system related and causes patchy hair loss, scalp infections such as ringworm, and a hair-pulling disorder called trichotillomania (trik-o-til-o-MAY-nee-uh).
  • Medications and supplements. Hair loss can be a side effect of certain drugs, such as those used for cancer, arthritis, depression, heart problems, gout and high blood pressure.
  • Radiation therapy to the head. The hair may not grow back the same as it was before.
  • A very stressful event. Many people experience a general thinning of hair several months after a physical or emotional shock. This type of hair loss is temporary.
  • Hairstyles and treatments. Excessive hairstyling or hairstyles that pull your hair tight, such as pigtails or cornrows, can cause a type of hair loss called traction alopecia. Hot-oil hair treatments and permanents also can cause hair to fall out. If scarring occurs, hair loss could be permanent.

Risk factors

A number of factors can increase your risk of hair loss, including:

  • A family history of balding on your mother's or father's side
  • Significant weight loss
  • Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes and lupus
  • Poor nutrition

Most baldness is caused by genetics (male-pattern baldness and female-pattern baldness). This type of hair loss is not preventable.

These tips may help you avoid preventable types of hair loss:

  • Be gentle with your hair. Use a detangler and avoid tugging when brushing and combing, especially when your hair is wet. A wide-toothed comb might help prevent pulling out hair. Avoid harsh treatments such as hot rollers, curling irons, hot-oil treatments and permanents. Limit the tension on hair from styles that use rubber bands, barrettes and braids.
  • Ask your doctor about medications and supplements you take that might cause hair loss.
  • Protect your hair from sunlight and other sources of ultraviolet light.
  • Stop smoking. Some studies show an association between smoking and baldness in men.
  • If you're being treated with chemotherapy, ask your doctor about a cooling cap. This cap can reduce your risk of losing hair during chemotherapy.

But first, it's important to understand the difference between the ingredients in hair growth oils. "The only FDA-approved over-the-counter topical ingredient for the treatment of hair loss is Minoxidil ," says GH Beauty Lab Senior Chemist Danusia Wnek . It is known to slow down hair loss and stimulate hair growth but "the mechanism of action on the hair follicle is very limited," according to this scientific review . "Unless it contains minoxidil, a hair growth oil won’t increase hair growth (the number of strands on your scalp); instead it will lubricate hair, preventing breakage and damage," she adds.

If you want true hair growth, reach for a bottle of the tried and true solution: Rogaine. Since it contains minoxidil, the only FDA-approved drug for hair growth, the GH Beauty Lab recommends this for thinning hair that needs a boost that many other products can't give. Perfect for anyone in the beginning stages of hair loss, this treatment is clinically proven to help fill in the gaps but should really only be used by those experiencing that.

"This is a great option for sensitive scalps ," she says. "It has over 30 different oils and nutrients that can promote hair growth." Those ingredients include rosemary, castor, tea tree and peppermint oil, which is known for soothing. It does have a strong scent so beware before applying.

Many hair growth oils can be pricey, but this Boost It option offers good value with a science-backed formula that contains coffeeberry extract. " Research shows that coffeeberry extract can have a benefit for hair growth and hair loss reduction ," says beauty expert Birnur Aral, Ph.D . A reviewer confirmed, "it's really helping my hair grow." One thing to note: it has a strong smell that not all reviewers love.

Made with almost 100% powerhouse plant oils and extracts like castor, jojoba and rosemary , this hair growth oil encourages longer locks. While reviewers generally raved about its abilities, a few noted that it left hair a little greasy after applying.

"I typically keep my hair silk pressed and I've noticed since using this oil my hair holds the press much longer and humidity isn't as much of a hassle as it was before I used this oil," one reviewer notes. "I also noticed that I have much denser new growth than I did before, so I believe it is aiding in my hair growing faster and thicker."

A study found that rosemary oil has growth-boosting effects equal to a 2% concentration of the FDA-approved hair growth active ingredient minoxidil , Aral says. This Weleda formula is recommended by Dhaval Bhanusali, M.D. , a dermatologist and founder of Hudson Dermatology & Laser Surgery in New York City, and works for all hair types, especially dry and damaged. The bottle doesn't come with a dropper so be mindful when applying not to let too much pour out.

With peptides and plant extracts, The Ordinary claims to give hair a fuller look by supporting the scalp . "I have an odd hairline with almost bald spots on my temples and only a month of using this a few times a week has made my hair grow so much ," one reviewer says. Reviewers note that this oil can make hair greasy, so only use it on camera-off days.

A GH Beauty Award winner, this KeepItAnchored shampoo, conditioner and scalp serum set helps maintain hair’s fullness by improving the scalp’s condition with ingredients like niacinamide , zinc and caffeine.

In a clinical study on the technology, users had about 2,400 more hairs on their scalp after six months than those who used a placebo, GH Beauty Lab data analysis confirmed. Make sure to use consistently; one user noted the results decreased when she wasn't using the system regularly.

Cantu Hair & Scalp Oil

Designed with curly and natural hair in mind, this Cantu oil is deeply nourishing and repairing. " My hair has grown so much from where I once had a bald spot from hereditary hair growth issues and it is now full and thick," one reviewer says. "The tea tree in this also helps to stimulate my scalp when I do scalp massages." Just an FYI: A few reviewers had issues with the packaging and noted it can be hard to get product out.

For hair that's grown sparse, turn to Vegamour's dermatologist-recommended serum made with biotin, citrus oil and caffeine. "This is the best overall when it comes to hair growth for thinning hair as it can work on any hair type," says Dr. Graf. Note that some reviewers reported it made hair oily.

Formulated with baobab and rosemary oil, this Evolis Professional oil hydrates strands while encouraging growth . "Absolutely amazing product," one reviewer raves. "People are amazed at how quickly my hair is growing back post chemotherapy." While it is on the pricier side, reviewers think it's worth it.

Nutrafol Growth Activator Hair Serum

Growth Activator Hair Serum

This serum from Nutrafol, the brand known for its hair growth supplements, is also one of Dr. Graf's go-tos thanks to its robust formula. "It contains growth activator ingredients such as ashwagandha and collagen peptides ," she explains. The serum itself is also lighter than many hair growth oils .

"I like the light feeling," a reviewer reported. "I really like how effective it is — the condition of my hair began to improve drastically." One thing to note: A few reviewers felt the dropper didn't work well to release product easily.

Rene Furterer Complexe 5 Stimulating Plant Concentrate

Complexe 5 Stimulating Plant Concentrate

When trichologist Bridgette Hill recommends an oil to her clients, this is the one she tells them to look for. "The René Furterer Complex 5 has botanical-based cleansing and anti-inflammatory ingredients that truly cleanse and exfoliate for every scalp and hair type and texture ," she says.

This oil isn't made to add moisture, but instead to prep the hair before washing. "The intention is to nurture and cleanse the microbiome," Hill notes. If you are prone to dryness in your hair and scalp, note that this could have a drying effect.

Briogeo B. Well Organic Cold-Pressed Castor Oil

B. Well Organic Cold-Pressed Castor Oil

Castor oil has been a folk health remedy for ages, but it also works wonders for hair, skin and nails. When used on hair, it helps strengthen and soften strands . "My hair is natural and a tapered cut," one reviewer says. "I'm so happy this product helped with my hair growth, especially the edges."

Leonor Greyl Paris Complexe Energisant

Complexe Energisant

Specifically designed to help fill out thinning or damaged hair , this set of Leonor Greyl Paris hair treatments comes in a pack of 12 for targeted treatments. They can be used once a week for moderate hair loss or up to three times a week for more severe damage. They are pricey but since they're not designed for daily use, the package will last some time.

"This product has really improved the look and feel of my hair," one reviewer says. "It's been a few months now and I'm seeing a lot of new hair growth. My hair is noticeably thicker. "

Virtue Topical Scalp Supplement

Topical Scalp Supplement

Virtue's oil targets the root of your hair growth — the scalp — to help grow hair long and strong with nourishing ingredients. Peptides and hyaluronic acid keep it super moisturized so hair has an optimal growing environment. In clinical studies, 95% of women claimed their hair felt and looked healthier and more manageable .

"I love the dropper application, so easy to just take the dropper throughout your roots and get the treatment on your hair," says one Dermstore reviewer. "Feels so good on your scalp as well!" A few others noted they went through it quickly based on the recommended dosage, so be mindful with how much you apply.

How we choose the best hair growth oils

line break

The hair growth oils in this list are either dermatologist or hair expert favorites, Beauty Lab scientists recommendations or popular options with rave consumer reviews and ratings.

When choosing products, we consider the included ingredients, formula, clinical testing and ratings to select the best ones on the market in this category.

What to look for when shopping for the best hair growth oil

line break

"Most topicals that are formulated with active ingredients are made to leave on the scalp for optimum efficacy," Hill says. She suggests seeking out a formula that's "light enough to penetrate the scalp without leaving a residue on the hair fiber and that's formulated to increase cellular turnover, reduce inflammation, respect the natural balance of the scalp’s microbiome and can be shampooed out." She recommends products that contain:

✔️ Citrus oils

✔️ Rosemary oil

✔️ Castor oil

✔️ Jojoba oil

In addition to hair growth treatments made with minoxidil, the FDA-approved hair growth ingredient, and rosemary oil, Aral also suggests products infused with coffeeberry extract to promote healthy hair growth.

Dr. Graf recommends hair growth oils containing biotin , which "promotes hair growth by supporting the hair’s natural keratin." She is another proponent of rosemary oil, which, she says along with tea tree and peppermint oils , "can stimulate the scalp and its hair follicles."

Do hair growth oils actually work?

line break

As we mentioned above, most hair growth oils you can buy won't actually make hair grow faster, but rather promote growth by minimizing breakage and damage. "If the product does not contain minoxidil, adjust your expectations accordingly," says Aral. "Most hair oils work as lubricants on hair mid-lengths and ends that help prevent breakage," therefore resulting in longer hair.

How long does it take to see results from a hair growth oil?

line break

"It can take several months of consistent use to see improvement in hair growth with minoxidil," says Wnek. "As with most cosmetics, consistency is key to see optimal results." She recommends to always follow manufacturer instructions.
