A Visit to A Mall

I love visiting malls. The mall is a place where people shop, eat, hang out and just have fun. With the coming up of malls in different cities of the country, days of picnicking with family and friends are almost gone. As they do not have much time, people look for entertainment, food and shopping mall at one place. Malls make a suitable outlet to shop and pass time.

Our family recently visited the Heerabai Mall. It is amongst the most happening malls in the city. As we entered the mall, I was amazed. It was by far the largest shopping mall I had ever seen. The mall was packed with people. Kids ran all around the place. There was a big line at the center of the mall, filled with parents and their kids. Later, we found out that the line was formed for the kids that wanted to get their picture taken with Santa Claus.

There were so many stores of different kinds. People wandered around. We went from store to store of our interest. It was quite noisy inside but it all just seemed remarkable to me. Everyone there was dressed well, since it was about Christmas time. There were multi-cuisine food centres and a large movie theatre with several separate rooms with screens. It was known as multiplex cinema. Thus, everything was under one roof. My mother shopped eagerly for monthly rations. We now moved onto shopping for some decorative items and clothes for Christmas.

Shopping always makes me hungry. Thus, we moved towards the food centres. My sister and I ate pizzas. Our parents preferred diet cokes with chicken sandwiches and fruit salad. Food usually makes one lazy and we needed to rest for a while. Still shopping had to be done. Therefore, we chose to see Chhota Bheem movie showing at the multiplex in the mall. It was an adventurous movie.

After the movie was over, we decided to take on another round of shopping. Shopping had just begun to get better. This time we shopped for sports shoes and some accessories for dad. This essay is mainly about a shopping mall I visited recently. It includes the setting of the mall, choreography in the movements of people in the mall, developments of hierarchy of space in the mall etc. I have also included a description of reactions of a few people while I was walking in a beach.

There are two entrances to the mall. First one is near the car parking area in the left side of the building and the large entrance is in front of the mall. This large entrance is beautifully decorated to attract people who pass through the road. There are two exits also; one on the right side of the building and the other one in the entrance near car parking area. Security guards have been placed near the entrances and exits.

The shops are arranged in a circular shape inside the mall. There is a wonderful statue at the center of the circle. Six floors are there in the mall and each of them is specially arranged for selling different kinds of articles. Four elevators are arranged around the circle.

First floor is particularly arranged for selling food items. The right side corner is reserved only for ATMs. Second floor locates clothe stores. Different brand names have been advertised on the walls of these stores. Ornament shops are arranged on the third floor. There are separate shops for ornaments from different countries. One side of this floor consists of shops for selling antiques. There are four such shops on this floor. Fourth floor is specially designed for kids. Some of the shops are for kids’ wears and some others for toys. The last floor is for selling electronic goods like mobile phone, computer, etc.

The walls of the building are painted with different dark colors. Small and big advertisement boards are hung on the walls. But the advertisement of a telecom service provider is larger than all others. It is placed opposite to the main entrance. All shops have more than one security staff.

There are significant changes in the movement of people inside the mall. Number of youngsters is very high compared to other age groups. Only very few people come to the mall with intention to buy something. They purchase whatever they want and go back. But most people talk each other and visit shop by shop. Their intention is not only to purchase something but they also want to enjoy the place. Some people come with kids and they make use of the baby carriers which are available in the mall. The crowd is comparatively big on the first and second floors. Visitors walk through these floors very carefully and slowly to avoid collision.

The arrangement of floors of the mall is made with certain intentions. The first floor is allowed for supplying food items for the convenience of the customers. This is the space where large number of customers can be expected. As the shops are arranged around a circle, it is possible to view all of them standing in the middle of the circle. So, it is very easy for the customers to locate the shops that they want to visit.

I observed a few people while I was walking in the beach. The reactions of people were quite different from people in the mall. In the beach the people concentrated in interacting with each other. They did not want to purchase anything. Some people just looked at me for a moment while they were chatting with each other and they continued their activities after understanding me as an unfamiliar face.

Setting of shopping malls and hierarchy of spaces in the mall are something which should be done carefully. It should be in such a way to satisfy different kinds of customers. Behavior and movement of people inside the shopping mall is quite different from other places.

Introduction:

A visit to a shopping mall is always exciting for someone who has resided in a rural area all his life.

I was always excited about tall buildings, shopping malls and big restaurants. I happen to have a chance to visit my aunt, who stays in the city.

I had already told her beforehand that the moment I reach, she would take me to a shopping mall to which she had readily agreed.

The shopping mall we went to was not far from her residence and was one of the biggest malls in the city. I was left with my jaw hanging when I looked at the enormity of the structure. It spanned the length equivalent to ten houses in my district. As we were nearing the entry, I felt a gush of cold air coming from inside. Not being very used to air-conditioning, it was a new experience for me. My aunt told me that she would buy new clothes and a bag for me. There was a huge crowd inside the mall and loud music played. At one particular corner, there was a music event in progress.

Shopping At the Mall:

We entered one of the stores inside the mall and I was astounded to find so many varieties of clothes at the same place. It looked so colourful from a distance. We went from one rack to another looking through t-shirts and jeans. My aunt bought me a pair of jeans and t-shirts. I had never seen the usage of an ATM card before.

Everything was a new experience for me and I was elated the entire time. We then visited a shoe store because even my aunt had to buy new shoes for herself. She couldn’t find her preference in that store. We then visited almost ten different stores. After getting the shoes we went to have lunch.

Lunch at Shopping Mall:

The eateries at the mall were all big and enticing. Food items ranging from burgers, sandwiches, pizzas to Indian, Chinese, continental, etc. were available. My aunt took me to a Chinese eatery where she ordered haka noodles and ginger chicken. It tasted delicious, better than any other fast food I had before. We then had ice-cream for dessert.

Conclusion:

The visit to the shopping mall was a new and exciting experience for me. I saw many new things which I don’t usually get to see at my place. I was brimming with joy holding my new clothes and wearing new shoes. I expressed my desire of visiting the mall again to my aunt to which she smiled and agreed.

City Announces Road Closures for the 2024 Wawa Welcome America Festival

PHILADELPHIA – City officials released information about road closures, safety, and public transportation associated with upcoming Wawa Welcome America Festival events. The 2024 Wawa Welcome America Festival began on Wednesday, June 19 and goes through Thursday, July 4, encompassing 16 days of free multicultural and multigenerational, diverse, and inclusive events.

Wawa Welcome America will feature a lineup of tried-and-true programming that Philadelphians have come to know and love, combined with new events designed to showcase and celebrate the rich multicultural fabric of Philadelphia, all while activating iconic public spaces across our great city.

As Wawa Welcome America continues to grow and expand leading up to America’s 250th birthday in 2026, this year’s festival will feature a slate of world class talent designed to put Philadelphia and the festival on a global stage. In addition to Ne-Yo and Kesha, Wawa Welcome America will also feature performances by LeAnn Rimes, Tamela Mann, Kid ‘n Play, Kathy Sledge, Jennifer Holliday, Philadelphia Orchestra, The United States Army Field Band & Soldiers Chorus, The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” and more!

July Fourth Concert and Fireworks

Philly’s largest free outdoor concert, the legendary July Fourth Concert + Fireworks will take place on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, featuring performances by three-time GRAMMY® Award-winning R&B hitmaker, iconic songwriter, actor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Ne-Yo, and Grammy-nominated and award-winning musician, actress and activist Kesha.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on NBC10. Gates open at 4 p.m. All guests must enter at Logan Circle at 20th Street & the Benjamin Franklin Parkway through the secure checkpoint, including magnetometers. Bags and beings are subject to search. Entry to the July 4th Concert & Fireworks is free and tickets are not required.

The July Fourth Concert will be followed by a large, public firework display over the iconic Benjamin Franklin Parkway courtesy of Wawa beginning at approximately 9:30 p.m. (Time subject to change.) The official fireworks soundtrack was curated by DJ Ghost and will air on Q102FM. The complete fireworks spectacular will be televised live on NBC10 at 9:30 p.m. and simulcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia+. The fireworks will be live streamed on the NBC Philadelphia News channel on Peacock, Roku, Samsung TV Plus, Amazon Fire TV, Pluto and Xumo Play as well as www.nbc10.com . The fireworks will be streamed in Spanish on Telemundo Noreste on Roku and Samsung TV Plus as well as www.telemundo62.com enabling viewers to watch on any device.

What's happening in Springfield? Ozark Empire Fair, 20+ things to do in July

The height of the Midwest heat signals, for some, the best time of the year: the smell of funnel cake, sound of live music and sight of bright carnival lights filling the dark sky.

The 88th annual Ozark Empire Fair kicks off Thursday, July 25 and runs through Saturday, Aug. 3. Tickets are now available on the Ozark Empire Fairground & Event Center website at ozarkempirefair.com/p/buytickets .

Rock-and-roll band Everclear, with support from Marcy Playground, will open the fair on July 25 at 7:30 p.m. on the KY3 Grandstand. The band, formed in Portland, Oregon in 1991, is known for singles like "Santa Monica," "Father of Mine" and "I Will Buy You a New Life."

Other concerts during the fair will feature Warren G with The Sugarhill Gang on July 26, Skillet on July 29 and Reckless Kelly with Jukebox Hero on July 30. And other events include the O'Reilly Outlaw Nationals Monster Truck Show on July 27, O'Reilly Auto Parts Night of Destruction on Aug. 1, Hardee's Extreme Freestyle Bullfighting on Aug. 2 and a truck and tractor pull on Aug. 3.

Tent Theatre's 'Mystic Pizza'

When: July 5-6, 8-13 at 8 p.m.

Where: Tent Theatre at 901 S. National Ave.

Tent Theatre's final production of the summer season is "Mystic Pizza," based on the book by Sandy Rustin and 1988 rom-com movie. The story follows Kat, JoJo and Daisy, waitresses at a pizza parlor in Mystic, Connecticut. Each of the women encounter their own dilemmas and get a crash course in life, love, friendship and family.

Show Me Skate Invitational Tournament

When: July 5-7

Where: Jordan Valley Ice Park at 635 E. Trafficway St.

Springfield Roller Derby is hosting its second annual Show Me Skate Invitational Tournament over three days.

The tournament will feature eight Women' Flat Track Derby Association teams: the Kansas City Roller Warrior All Stars, Capital City Crushers (Topeka, Kansas), Confluence Crush Roller Derby (St. Louis/Metro East, Illinois), CoMo Roller Derby (Columbia), Natural State Roller Derby (Fayetteville, Arkansas), Twister City Roller Derby (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) and Foundation City Roller Derby (Kansas City).

The tournament's schedule is as follows:

Friday, July 5: Doors open at noon, first whistle at 1 p.m.
Saturday, July 6: Doors open at 8 a.m., first whistle at 9 a.m.
Sunday, July 7: Doors open at 8 a.m., first whistle at 9 a.m.

On Saturday, July 6 at approximately 7 p.m., a Show Me Skate Mashup will be held, which is an open gender game following Women' Flat Track Derby Association rules. To learn more or sign up, email [email protected] .

Concessions, team merchandise and vendors will be available throughout the tournament.

Tickets for the tournament are available in advance online for $10 per single-day pass and $25 per weekend pass. Advance weekend passes are only available through July 1. Limited single-day and weekend passes will be available at the door.

At the end of each day, Springfield Roller Derby will host an after party at Hold Fast Brewing, with beer and games.

Ozarks Lunkers

When: July 6 and 13 at 7:05 p.m.

Where: Wilson Logistics Arena at 3001 N. Grant Ave.

The Ozarks Lunkers, southwest Missouri's professional football team, will play two home games in July. The Lunkers will take on the Duluth Harbor Monsters on July 6 and Kansas City Goats on July 13. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and games start at 7:05 p.m. Official tailgate parties will be held from 3-6 p.m. at The Ozark Empire Fairgrounds.

Tickets are available on StubWire , ranging between $15 for standard seats to $2,000 for field box seats.

Shark Week at Wonders Of Wildlife

Big Rig Night at Battlefield Mall

When: Tuesday, July 9 from 5:30-8 p.m.

Where: Battlefield Mall at 2825 S. Glenstone Ave.

Community Partnership of the Ozarks and Springfield MO Parents As Teachers are partnering to host a Big Rig Night, featuring a variety of vehicles for children to explore and learn about, including semi trucks, race cars, buses, construction trucks, mail trucks and police cars. The free event will be held behind Nakato's.

National Teddy Bear Picnic

When: Wednesday, July 10 from 10 a.m. to noon

Where: Springfield Botanical Gardens at 2400 S. Scenic Ave.

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board's annual National Teddy Bear Picnic is back for another year. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed bear or toy and a picnic blanket. The picnic will feature crafts, games, story time, a teddy bear parade and frozen treats. Registration on the park board website is free but required by July 9.

Free screening of 'Purple Noon' at Moxie Cinema

When: Wednesday, July 10 at 7 p.m.

Where: Moxie Cinema at 305 S. Campbell Ave. Suite 101

Moxie Cinema and the Springfield-Greene County Library partner each month to screen one free movie as a part of the FilmStubs series. For the month of July, the 1960 movie, "Purple Noon," directed by René Clément will be shown.

"Purple Noon" is the film adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's "The Talented Mr. Ripley." The story follows Tom Ripley, an American charmer, on a mission to bring his privileged acquaintance Philippe Greenleaf back to the United States from Rome. What starts as a carefree friendship twists into a thrilling saga of seduction, identity theft and murder. Alain Delon, Maurice Ronet and Marie Laforêt star in the film.

Community Service Fair on the Square

When: Saturday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to noon

Where: Park Central Square

The History Museum on the Square is hosting an inaugural Community Service Fair on the Square this summer. The morning event will feature more than two dozen local charitable organizations with information about their resources and how folks can get involved. The first 100 attendees will receive a swag bag. This event is free for the public.

The Wallflowers

When: Sunday, July 14 at 8 p.m.

Where: Gillioz Theatre at 325 Park Central East

The Wallflowers, a rock solo project established by Jakob Dylan, is making its way to Springfield. The Wallflowers is known for singles like, "One Headlight," "6th Avenue Heartache" and "Heroes."

Price Cutter Charity Championship

When: July 18-20

Where: Highland Springs Country Club at 5400 S. Highland Springs Boulevard

The annual Price Cutter Charity Championship is Springfield's largest golf tournament, showing the Professional Golfers' Association's future athletes. Since its establishment in 1990, the tournament has raised more than $20.5 million for children's charities throughout the Ozarks.

Tickets for the tournament are available on the Price Cutter Charity Championship website at pricecuttercc.org/tickets/ . The tournament allows lawn chairs, but coolers and external food are prohibited.

Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy

Where: The Old Glass Place at 521 E. St. Louis St.

The Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy is a touring cocktail event, featuring four of Poe's most famous pieces of poetry and themed cocktails. The hour-and-a-half long event provides an immersive experience for poetry fans of all types.

As of June 28, tickets remained available for 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on July 18, 10 p.m. on July 19, and noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on July 20. Tickets are available on fever , ranging between $48-55.

Free screening of 'Barbie' at Jordan Valley Park

When: Friday, July 19 around 8:45 p.m.

Where: Jordan Valley Park at 635 E. Trafficway St.

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board is continuing its Free Movies in the Park series with a screening of the 2023 hit "Barbie." The free event is open to the public. Folks are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets and snacks. Concessions will be available.

Concerts at The Shoe Tree Listening Room

Where: The Shoe Tree Listening Room at 1342 E. St. Louis St.

Rainbow Kids' Art Museum Outing

When: Saturday, July 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Where: Springfield Art Museum at 1079 E. Brookside Drive

The GLO Center's Rainbow Kids program, intended for children ages 5-11, is meeting at the Springfield Art Museum for its summer outing. The free outing will include a scavenger hunt, art activity and snacks. Though the outing is intended for children a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, friends and family are welcome to join. Guardians must stay with their children during the event.

Wake & Bake Pottery with Creava Studio

When: Sunday, July 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Camp Fernweh at 8038 State Highway HH in Willard

Creava Studio, a pottery studio based in Springfield, is hosting an outdoor Wake & Bake Pottery workshop, where participants will learn how to make their own pipes from clay. Each participant will hand build two pieces. Creava staff will glaze the pieces for participants and pieces will be available about three weeks later for pickup at the Springfield studio.

Participants must be 21 years old to attend. Consuming cannabis or alcohol is allowed during the workshop.

Tickets for the workshop are $80, which include clay and all necessary supplies. Tickets are available on the Creava Studio website .

Killer Queen - A Tribute to Queen at the Gillioz Theatre

When: Wednesday, July 24 at 7:30 p.m.

Killer Queen , a Queen tribute band, is world-renowned for being one of the first tribute bands to follow Freddie Mercury's passing. Based in the United Kingdom, Killer Queen travels around the globe annually.

Rare Wine Rare Books

When: Friday, July 26 at 6:30 p.m.

Where: Meyer Library at Missouri State University at 988 E. Page St.

Missouri State University Libraries' annual Rare Wine Rare Books event is a benefit for the university's Special Collections and Archives. A six-flight wine menu and full-course dinner will be served.

'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy screening

When: July 26-27

The Gillioz Theatre is screening all three "The Lord of the Rings" movies in late July. "Fellowship of the Ring" will be screened at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 26, "Two Towers" will be screened at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 and "Return of the King" will be screened at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 27.

Tickets are available on the Gillioz Theatre website . Tickets are $50, which include one ticket to each movie screening and $24 in concession vouchers. VIP tickets are $60, which include one ticket to each screening, $24 in concession vouchers, a dinner provided by Doggy Style food truck, access to the venue's premium bar and a commemorative laminate.

Recycle Run

When: Saturday, July 27 from 6-8 a.m.

Where: Bass Pro Shops at 1935 S. Campbell Ave.

A part of the Bass Pro Shops Fitness Series, a free six-mile route will be set up through Springfield. The untimed race is intended for fun. Water, chocolate milk and treats will be available at the conclusion of the race.

Back to School Bash

When: Saturday, July 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Springfield Expo Center at 635 E. St. Louis St.

Springfield Public Schools' annual Back to School Bash is an event of students and their families in preparation for the 2024-2025 school year. The event will offer backpacks, hygiene items, groceries, immunizations and connections to community resources. Kansas City Chiefs mascot KC Wolf will also make an appearance. This event is free for all SPS families.

Toad the Wet Sprocket at the Gillioz Theatre

When: Tuesday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m.

Toad the Wet Sprocket is an alternative rock band from Santa Barbara, California, known for singles like "All I Want," "Walk On the Ocean" and "Fall Down."

Watercraft Restrictions

The following watercraft restrictions will be in place on the Potomac River from approximately 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2024, until Wednesday, July 5, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.:

There will be a designated anchorage zone north of the 14th Street Bridge on the east side of the Potomac River (West Potomac Park shore side); this zone will be just north of the 14th Street Bridge complex to south of the Arlington Memorial Bridge. Anchoring will be allowed until 9:00 am on July 5, 2024.

There will be a watercraft safety zone north of the 14th Street Bridge on the east side of the Potomac River (Washington, DC side); this zone will be just north of the entrance to the 14th St Bridge Complex to just north of the Arlington Memorial Bridge. This means no boating, no anchoring.

Watercraft will be allowed to anchor outside of the channel north of the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge and south of the 14th Street Bridge.

There may be intermittent travel restrictions between the 14th Street Bridge and the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge between the hours of 8:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

Stephen Krashen (1981) defines the Monitor as the channel by which conscious learning is available to the second language learner. In order to use the Monitor, the learner must have time, be focused on form, and possess a knowledge of grammatical rules. In contrast to the Monitor user is the learner who seems to have a natural ability to communicate in the second language: his speech is fast and spontaneous, revealing an orientation towards the affective, rather than the cognitive domain. This paper examines aspects of the Monitor Theory in terms of its practical application in the formal classroom. Whereas students in a second-language setting have the advantage of absorbing natural input outside of the classroom, students in a foreign-language setting must rely on instructional materials or homework assignments for most of their input. Thus "acquisition" is much more likely to occur in an instructional setting in which the target language is widely spoken outside of the classroom. However, the Monitor Theory can contribute greatly to the foreign-language classroom, inasmuch as the instructor optimizes input for acquisition.

The monitor model, being one of its kind postulating the rigorous process taken by learners of second language, has since its inception in 1977, stirred sterile debates the globe over. Since then, Krashen has been rethinking and expanding his hypothetical acquisition notions, improve the applicability of his theory. The model has not been becoming, and it therefore faces disapproval on the basis of its failure to be tested empirically and, at some points, its contrast to Krashen’s earlier perceptions on both first and second language acquisition. In this paper, the writers deliberate upon Krashen’s monitor model, its tenets as well as the various ways in which it impacts, either negatively or positively upon educational teaching and learning.

Of all the constructs relevant to second language acquisition, Krashen's ideation appears the most " voicing " and, paradoxically, the most arrowed with questions of validity and pedagogical fitness. This disparity has, unfortunately, turned out to be a fashion move in discourses on the Monitor Model, resulting in uncritical 'advocacies' and 'objections'. The present paper, rather, takes to provide an appraisal of Krashen's theory of second language acquisition. In line with Widdowson (1990), the appraisal partly involves a measure of the theory's tenets along internal validity, calling for exposing, and gauging the uptake of the criticism the theory has been generating, alongside an evaluation of the model in the light of variables as input, interaction and interlanguage variation. The second portion effecting our appraisal relates to the assessment of the operational dimension of the theory, where questions of applicability and utility to practitioners and learners are raised. That the model's 'advantages' and 'drawbacks' alternate, it is concluded that judgments of worth make not a proper " marking criterion " , for the flaws of the model are not so serious that the claims behind it are to be falsified, but are serious enough to falsify a focal adoption. This component, which discharges the conceptualization of how language competence is attained, renders practices reputable, for they are said to reflect a particular understanding, or as Schouten (1979) calls " a sense of direction ". In fact, the inception of second language acquisition (SLA) as a recognizable area of enquiry marked the departure of rival claims, each competing to provide the adequate idealization for the nature of the processes involved in acquisition. This tension, which features in the multitude of constructs, may not be problematic, nor is it, as Schouten qualifies an " indicative of the immaturity of the field " (as cited in Ellis, 1995, p. 73). Tension, perhaps more accurately, does justice to the complexity of language as it touches on a variety of spheres and, thus, identifies with multiple frames of reference. Such multidimensionality hardly allows the persistence of a monologic, self sufficient theory. It is, yet, undeniable that some theories—perhaps for the audacity of their generators—are more attractive than others. Indeed, among the many SLA theories, krashen's Monitor Model appears of high prominence, for initiating a postulate for the importance of a specific input state, triggering research investigating the role of input in SLA, and for being the theoretical platform from which several models—even opposing ones—

The target of Second- Language Acquisition (SLA), emerged in the second half of the 20th century, was to be helpful in foreign- language education/ teaching. It denotes mostly the study of individuals (or sometimes groups) who are learning a language consequent to learning their first language when they are young children. At the same time, it signifies the process of learning a second language. The added language is named a second language, but it might indeed be the third, fourth or more which is going to be acquired. The range of SLA comprises informal Second- Language Learning occurring in natural milieus, formal second- language learning occurring in classroom or the one that contains a combination of them both, that is, settings and conditions. The three main aspects for the study of SLA process are the linguistic, psychological and social aspects. The Monitor Theory/ Model postulated by Krashen in the 1970s is a psychological approach in nature. With its five hypotheses (The Acquisition– Learning Hypothesis, The Monitor Hypothesis, The Natural Order Hypothesis, The Input Hypothesis, and The Affective Filter Hypothesis), it tries to find answers to the problems of SLA, such as what does a second- language learner come to know, how the acquisition process takes place, and why some learners are more successful than others? The Monitor Theory (MT) received extensively many criticisms after its appearance and was rejected. Its teaching implications were also at the centre of criticisms. What place does MT occupy in SLA today? This study aims to try to find an answer. The other questions are: How important is the MT for SLA? What kind of criticisms are expressed against it? How fair is the criticism by McLaughlin (1978, 1987)? The working hypotheses of the present work are: The hypotheses developed by Krashen are not/ will not be rejected. Because science is still lying in the so- called agony phase, and cannot find any answers to all questions in psychology (e.g. how exactly is the processing of language; in particular and of mind in general). Moreover, the problems related to memory etc., the thoughts emanated from the MT can probably not be refuted. They have evolved so far and will be evolved further, perhaps with small differences. This research is completely based on the literature written since the time the theory was developed. In other words, it was carried out using a descriptive method without using a special data collection tool. The sources written on the subject were reviewed and an answer to the research questions was tried to be found. Even though the theory is expressed with different names and different meanings today, it has survived all the criticisms made, and it has been concluded that it still occupies an important place in the discipline of second- language acquisition (SLA) and foreign- language teaching. Again, the inquiries carried out since the 1970s delineate that the implications in favour of language education are not very different from those stated by Krashen (1982), which were the products of his opinions in that period. There are still basic consequences grounded on MT for language teaching today.
