Maroon 5 is one of the best-known pop rock bands out there. Its musical style vacillates between pop and pop rock with some indie rock and funk influences. The group has also experimented with new wave and disco sounds on several albums.

The band’s general tone and style shifts from one album to the next. Songs from Songs About Jane concentrated on frontman and vocalist Adam Levine’s former girlfriend. The material from It Won’t Be Soon Before Long is less personal and has a more electric sound with an overall synthesized, retro feel. With Hands All Over, the band returned to the theme of lost love from its first album. Regardless of the style it’s drawing on, Maroon 5’s knack for churning out catchy, jammable pop hits keeps it at the top of charts year after year.

The band is largely responsible for its own songwriting, with most of its most popular songs being written by various band members or in collaborative efforts among the members. Michael Jackson, The Police, Stevie Wonder, the Bee Gees, The Beatles, Tonic, Marvin Gaye, and Prince are all cited as significant influences on the band’s sound. Levine personally cites Billy Joel as a major influence, and guitarist James Valentine cites Queens of the Stone Age as his biggest influence.

Formed by high school friends Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick in Los Angeles, California in 1994, the band originally played under the name Kara’s Flowers. It changed its name to Maroon 5 after its musical direction matured while each member attended college and it added guitarist James Valentine.

The new urban edge and pop-soul sound their time at college had lent to the band’s music proved successful, and its 2002 debut album Songs About Jane sold 5 million albums in the US. Singles “Harder to Breathe” and “She Will Be Loved” quickly propelled the band to mega-stardom.

The success of Maroon 5’s debut album in 2002 caught the attention of John Mayer, The Rolling Stones, Sugar Ray, Gavin DeGraw, The Hives, and a number of other top performers, all of whom Maroon 5 has toured alongside. While three years of constant touring did wonders for the band’s popularity and fan base, it took its toll on drummer Ryan Dusick, who was forced to leave the band in 2006 due to an injury.

With Dusick replaced by Matt Flynn, the band soon released its 2007 album It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, which broke iTunes records by selling over 101,000 albums within the first week of its release. The single “Makes Me Wonder,” a sexy departure from the band’s sweeter tracks on Songs About Jane, took the US by storm, hitting the number one spot on the Billboard charts.

The band’s following albums, Hands All Over (2012) and Overexposed (2012), both performed similarly, with each hitting either the number one or number two spot in the US album chart. The band’s most successful single, though, is the 2011 megahit “Moves Like Jagger,” which featured Christina Aguilera and sold a staggering 15 million copies, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time.

Carmichael left the group in 2012 before rejoining it again in 2014. The same year, the band signed a new recording contract with Interscope Records and Adam Levine’s vanity label 222 Records. The band returned to the studio to record its fifth album, V, which reached number one on the Billboard 200. The single “Sugar” from the album quickly climbed to number two on the Hot 100 chart. The song was immensely popular and was featured in several commercials.

2014 marked one of the most successful and active phases of the band’s career to date. Maroon 5 was highly visible on the music scene that year, performing at several large-scale events and festivals. Early in the year, Maroon 5 was part of the 2014 iTunes Festival at the Roundhouse in London, England. Later that year, the group performed at the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour.

Chasing the success of V, the group released its sixth album, Red Pill Blues, in 2017. The successful single “Girls Like You” skyrocketed to the number one position on the Hot 100 chart.

With the addition of Sam Farrar on bass in 2020, the band’s lineup jumped to seven total members: Adam Levine (lead vocals), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards, lead and rhythm guitar), James Valentine (lead and rhythm guitar), Matt Flynn (drums), PJ Morton (keyboards, backing vocals), and Sam Farrar (bass).

In June 2021, the band’s seventh album, Jordi, was released to mixed critical reviews. Despite the lukewarm critical reception, the album was a commercial success and sold well. The highly popular singles “Memories,” “Beautiful Mistakes” and “Nobody’s Love” featuring Megan Thee Stallion appeared on the album.

Maroon 5 is the recipient of numerous music industry awards and honors. To date, the band has won three Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, three People’s Choice Awards, and eight Billboard Music Awards.

Maroon 5 embarked on the Maroon 5 World Tour in 2022, and the North American leg of the tour will begin in 2023. Stay tuned to find out when you can catch it live!

Sometimes when you hear a band that you love perform live for the first time, you're a bit disappointed because they do not sound as great as they do in the recordings. Well, that is NOT the case with Maroon 5, what you hear on recording is what you get live.

Adam Levine has an amazing voice. He is super talented, and they made no mistake when they decided to make him a judge on the show, The Voice. I could watch him perform live with his band all day. Some of my very favorite songs by Maroon 5 are their old ones such as “Never Gonna Leave This Bed”, “Harder To Breathe”, and “Misery” but when they start singing “Payphone”, I go crazy. I absolutely love this song performed live!

Perhaps the best song to see them perform live is “Moves Like Jagger”. It makes you move when you hear it on the radio, but when you hear it live, you're dancing non stop. Maroon 5 concerts are mostly upbeat and fun, but there are times when it slows down and they perform those songs that make you want to call your ex. The atmosphere to their concerts is just right. Chill at times, but also upbeat and loud.

Put Maroon 5 on your list of bands to see live because you will not be disappointed.

Maroon 5 have been constant and consistent in the charts over their long career which now spans almost fifteen years. The band, fronted by Adam Levine has come along way since the immediate success with 'Songs For Jane'. Now working on their sixth album, they obtain a consistency within their live show to match.

Armed with a plethora of hits, the band tear into 'One More Night' from the 2012 album 'Overexposed'. The audience singalong as Levine confidently struts around the stage commanding his loyal followers. A good mixture of material old and new make for a solid setlist where the band are able to show consistency through their recordings as the likes of 'Sunday Morning' and 'Maps' sit well together and achieve an equally positive reaction.

A real track of the 00's, 'She Will Be Loved' makes for perhaps the largest singalong of the evening as the crowd proudly attempt the high, long notes in the same way Adam does during the chorus. Evidently hitting their stride with latest album 'V', Maroon 5 impress crowds by remaining as relevant now as they were during their incarnation back in 2002.

This is my second show in the last 2 years and neither time was I disappointed in the least. This time I was fortunate enough to have the money I saved to purchase pretty good seats. I am now spoiled and can no longer sit in the stands. I am already saving my money for the next US tour in hopes to be even closer next show. No matter where your seats though....Adam is all over the stage in high energy, which is very infectious!! Anyone who did not enjoy that show, must not have been paying attention. They sounded awesome live...awesome!! Adam made the audience feel as though they were part of the show and VERY, VERY much appreciated! The lights were perfect, the set list was awesome as well. They played much longer than most people expected and the encore was just as great as the rest of the show, maybe even better. Maybe that is because I am partial to "Moves Like Jagger" and there it was....This was worth every dollar I paid, which was way more than I would pay to see anyone but maroon 5!! If you get a chance to see them sometime....make it a point....you will fall in love!!

IT WAS SOOOOOO AMAZING. they played all the songs i grew up listening to so all the memories just came flooding in and it was simply the best experience EVERR! seeing my favs live in concert was so LIT. What Lovers Do, Payphone, Maps, Cold, Sugar, Sunday Morning, Wait, Girls Like You, This Love AND MOVES LIKE JAGGER WOOO these are all my favourites and they played all of them AND MORE!!! i can’t barely describe how amazing this experience was. i was a bit upset that they didn’t perform an encore and some songs from the album that i really thought would be played like Help Me Out and Whiskey. from what my sister told me, Maroon 5 performed an encore last time round so i was quite let down when the concert ended without an one this time. nevertheless, it was a still a fantastic performance and i really hope to see them again soon!!!

No food allowed into the event, and the only food available from vendors was junk food (3-4 different pizza vendors, 2-3 sub vendors), not 1 single option for those wishing to eat healthy (not even a freaking salad was available anywhere).

Paid over $300 for "zone 1 seating", which was PACKED and there really was no "seating" as it was on the beach and turned into a free for all battle for a spot.

Lines into and out of "seating zones" were HORRIBLE throughout the ENTIRE event! The shitty food vendors were located past "zone 3" which meant that getting a bite to eat was about an hour process for those of us in zone 1!

Absolutely the last time I'm ever attending a concert at this venue!

As for the show itself, Maroon V was good, but for some reason decided to only play 3-4 songs from their new album.. Go figure.

I've been waiting to see Maroon 5 for 6 years and I'm so glad I finally did it.

I love that they didn't lose the essence of them as a pop rock band and a as a collective of musicians rather than just Adam Levine, especially since that's what it seems like in recent albums V and Red Pill Blues.

They started the show with videos and interacted a lot with the audience which made it a memorable show!

That said, Adam Levines voice was a little off... most of the time. He can't hit high notes and instead of really singing the lyrics sometimes it seemed like he was talking.

Still enjoyed the solos and appreciate that they played more "rock" songs like Harder To Breathe as well as their very recent pop music.

The band was really good at times, but Adam Levine did not seem to be at his best. Entire show including encore was 1:20. No real effects, which is ok, if the music is great, but no one was super impressed with the performance. Maybe an off day. If you are thinking about getting the VIP package- DON'T! Complete rip off and Maroon 5 and VIP Nations EU should be ashamed. Grocery bag with Maroon 5 on it, a lanyard, a silk screen pillow (seriously), and cheap sunglasses. No band photos, certainly no pictures with you and the band, no autographed anything. Complete and utter SH*T for your extra money. They also made us wait outside for 35 minutes, 28 degree heat, beyond their published entrance opening, no apology. Awful!

Maroon 5 Expand World Tour With New North American Dates

Maroon 5 are extending their ongoing world tour with 13 additional stops at arenas across North America.

After some scattered dates in the Middle East, as well as California and Canada through May and June, the pop-rock band will officially kick off a North American tour July 30 at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. The new set of dates will stretch through Aug. 20 when Maroon 5 will wrap things up with a performance at Montreal’s Centre Bell Arena.

Tickets for the newly announced dates go on sale via Ticketmaster on Friday, April 29 at 10 a.m. local time.

The extensive tour is in support of Maroon 5’s seventh studio album Jordi , released last year. The LP features “Memories” and the Megan Thee Stallion-assisted “Beautiful Mistakes.” The trek also coincides with the 20th anniversary of the group’s debut album, Songs About Jane .

The final single from the Overexposed album, “Love Somebody” builds up from a synth-heavy base into a perfectly-pitched pop cut that made the Billboard Top 10 in the summer of 2013. It was surprisingly overlooked as a single in many European markets, but this co-write with OneRepublic ’s Ryan Tedder packed dancefloors around the globe and also made the US club charts.

19: If I Never See Your Face Again (featuring Rihanna)

Maroon 5 would develop stellar form with star-turn duets, but “If I Never See Your Face Again” was an early flirtation with the format. The track was included in the reissue of It Won’t Be Soon Before Long and also made it onto Rihanna’s Good Girl Gone Bad : Reloaded . By reworking the song with the biggest female singer of the moment, it elevated an album cut into a Grammy nominee, while the steamy video helped develop Adam Levine’s heartthrob status.

Picked as the lead single from the band’s fifth studio release, V , “Maps” helped the album hit the top spot. By now the band had built a solid reputation for stop-you-in-your-tracks videos, and the explicit clip for “Maps” is particularly strong; its edgy narrative about a house party that ends in tragedy plays out the chronology of events backwards to dynamic effect. The single did Top 10 business everywhere and marked the return of Jesse Carmichael to the team after taking a two-year hiatus. Pop legend Ammar Malik, who helped shape many of the band’s biggest hits, as well as smashes for Clean Bandit and Ariana Grande , earns a credit here and the song became a fan favourite on the tour to support V .

17: Sunday Morning

It’s hard to imagine a time when Maroon 5 weren’t reliable chart hitmakers, but despite the impact of Songs About Jane , there were no guarantees that the band’s momentum would continue. “Sunday Morning” amped up Maroon 5’s soulful heart and deepened the public’s curiosity about this new group that was proving increasingly hard to pigeonhole. The track’s midtempo groove also sounded great on radio and helped the single into the Top 40 on both sides of the Atlantic.

16: Wake Up Call

Drafting in Mary J Blige and producer Mark Ronson was a smart move for a song that, in truth, didn’t need much help to start with. The “Wake Up Call” remix adds a sharp urban twist to a sturdy pop-rock track and was the highlight of the band’s Call And Response: The Remix Album , released the year after “Wake Up Call” first hit the market. Jonas Åkerlund directed the video, another clip that amped up the drama with a dark, domestic menace.

Launching Hands All Over , “Misery” was written by Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael and Sam Farrar, and was given a glossy pop-rock sheen by producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange. This perky 2010 release did respectable business and, though the Hands All Over era would prove a testing time for the band, a stronger fighting spirit soon emerged.

14: Animals

As Maroon 5 moulded their sound into a contemporary pop-dance style, they would inevitably look to collaborate with the production titans of the moment. Benny Blanco and Shellback had worked with Britney Spears, Adele and Katy Perry , and joined Adam Levine in creating “Animals” (which Shellback would produce for V ). It gave Maroon 5 their tenth Top 10 single in the US and would be promoted across multiple guest appearances on international TV shows. It was also a high point of the Maroon V Tour, which lasted for almost three years as the band’s global profile exploded.

13: Cold (featuring Future)

If there’s an award for the greatest Maroon 5 video – who would like to call that contest? – this clip is an obvious contender. It elevates a sturdy midtempo pop groove into something extra special. Lifted from the Red Pill Blues sessions, the single made the US Top 20 and was boosted by a suite of hot remixes, with the Gucci Mane treatment probably the standout.

12: What Lovers Do (featuring SZA)

This sugar-sweet melody offers Maroon 5 at, perhaps, their lightest, and demonstrates how effortlessly classic-pop writing comes to Adam Levine. Lifting elements from Neiked’s “Sexual,” it was a signal that Red Pill Blues was perfectly positioned to capitalise on the booming pop-dance market, but the credibility of the band’s blend of urban and rock influences was never far away. Featured artist SZA enjoyed her first US Top 10 appearance with this track.

11: Daylight

A late single release from Overexposed , “Daylight’ had a steady climb up the Billboard charts, made the US Top 10 and has since lasted the course. Jonas Åkerlund was brought in to helm a clever video made with the band’s fans, while Adam Levine says “Daylight,” created with legendary hitmaker Max Martin, is his favourite track on the album.

10: This Love

The one that made the band household names, “This Love” is certainly the first Maroon 5 classic from a lengthy line of them. Adam wrote the track with keyboardist Jesse Carmichael and it ended up becoming the third-most played song of 2004, earning a Grammy for Best Pop Performance. Everything you needed to know about the band was in place here: soulful top-notes, a grittier rock core and those once-heard, never-forgotten vocals. Even the video won an award. It wasn’t their first single, but the Maroon 5 rollercoaster started here.

9: Payphone (featuring Wiz Khalifa)

Rapper Wiz Khalifa added some ballast to this melodic gem, and the video pitched Maroon 5 into the premier league. It had a huge budget and demonstrated how effectively the band could use a clever video to enhance a great song. “Payphone” played just as well on radio, however, its platinum sales taking it to No.2 in the US, while the song became the band’s first chart-topper in the UK.

A song that always brings a smile to your face. The band ditched the high-concept drama for this clip and went with a simpler (but super-sharp) idea instead: Maroon 5 cast as the ultimate wedding band. Taken from 2014’s V , “Sugar” would become its biggest hit. It was written with Mike Posner and remains a radio staple to this day, despite being issued way back at the start of 2015.

7: Don’t Wanna Know (featuring Kendrick Lamar)

Why guest artist Kendrick Lamar decided not to appear in the bizarre Pokémon-inspired video is anyone’s guess… but here was a band with a sense of humour. TV show Ellen hosted the debut live performance of the cut, which went on to be a Top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic in late 2016. Benny Blanco helped produce the studio version, which was given a standalone release ahead of Red Pill Blues .

6: She Will Be Loved

Most classic bands have one standout ballad in their catalogue. For Maroon 5, this was the first of many. After the huge success of “This Love,” “She Will Be Loved” was an early indicator of the band’s appetite for brave development, finding them confident enough to mix up the formula at the earliest opportunity. It was also one of their first chart-toppers, hitting No.1 in Australia, three years before they reached the same position in their homeland.

5: One More Night

You can’t really talk about Maroon 5 without focusing on the band’s charismatic frontman. “One More Night” is perhaps the point when Adam Levine’s sex appeal was pushed centre-stage, in a video treatment of a bitter domestic drama. Do their great videos ever overshadow the songs? Almost, but not quite… these guys know what they are doing. This was the second single from Overexposed , recorded as Jesse Carmichael took a break from the band, with PJ Morton stepping in after a spell on tour.

4: Memories

The one that caught us all by surprise. The sudden release of this brand-new track in September 2019 has all the makings of an enduring Maroon 5 song. This stripped-back, gently lilting pop cut has a gorgeous melody and is going to be all over radio across the autumn. You know that early-evening moment on an idyllic beach as the sun slowly sets at the end of summer? It sounds like this.

3: Makes Me Wonder

This record-breaking song was the band’s first domestic chart-topper and launched It Won’t Be Soon Before Long in 2007. It scored one of the biggest-ever jumps to the top spot in history when it leapt stateside from No.64 to No.1, securing another Grammy win for Best Pop Performance along the way. The soul-funk influences were clear and “Makes Me Wonder” startled critics who had already decided the group was firmly fixed to the pop-rock market. Not for the first time were Maroon 5 able to show they can keep everyone guessing…

2: Moves Like Jagger (featuring Christina Aguilera)

Now recognised as one of the biggest songs of all time, this hit duet was initially released as a standalone single following Hands All Over . The Voice coach Christina Aguilera left her red chair to join fellow judge Adam Levine on this homage to The Rolling Stones ’ frontman. What makes it work? A hypnotic pop-dance groove that just burns into the memory, two great vocal performances and an inspired lyric that’s clever but ever so simple.

1: Girls Like You (featuring Cardi B)

Sometimes timing is everything, and this sharp cut – Maroon 5’s fourth domestic chart-topper, recorded with rapper Cardi B – was lifted from Red Pill Blues to huge radio support in 2018. It seemed like the perfect celebration of women in that moment when so many stories of long-veiled abuse were finally being exposed. A neat video with celebrity cameos helped, but this nagging, hook-heavy earworm is the sort of a tune you can’t easily shake off. And its phenomenal sales are still building.

Commercial success aside, why does this hit end up triumphantly on top of a demanding list of the best Maroon 5 songs? Because, at the end of the day, “Girls Like You” is simply a classic pop song and, for all the theatricality of the band’s visual presentation, classic songs are what they are truly all about.

Demand for $25 concert tickets cripples Live Nation site as sale begins

The website to buy those $25 Live Nation Concert Week tickets is wonky.

The live entertainment company is offering shows across the country for $25 each. Its site went live at 10 a.m.; but many hoping to score the deals were met with “error” and “page not found” messages when directed to Ticketmaster.com.

That left a lot of frustrated music lovers.

“(I) can't believe ticketmaster and live nation really thought they could handle having so many people buying tickets for so many artists when they cant even handle a single artist,” one ticket hunter said on X.

Another posted a “Martin” show gif with the text “Congratulations, you played yourself.”

“me @ myself for trying to get tickets for live nation concert week,” they said.

Marissa DePanda apparently wasn’t surprised with the site’s failure.

“Ticketmaster and live nation crashing as soon as the concert week goes on sale. How on brand,” she posted.

And X user "Attack of the Bobby" (@PeerOutBRK) said he had more faith in his kids being able to deliver a smooth buying experience.

“You know @Ticketmaster @LiveNation really put those service fees to good use with these flawlessly running servers they have for their biggest sale of the year. My children could code a more functional storefront as a hobby. What a f****** joke.”
