Glamping in Sri Lanka

Tree Tops Jungle Lodge Restaurant View

RESTAURANT VIEW, LOOKING OUT INTO THE JUNGLE

FIVE HIGHLIGHTS

Sleep in the jungle in luxury safari tents near elephants and a myriad of other wildlife.

The entire camp is candlelit at night - creating one of the most romantic experiences imaginable.

Delicious meals and nature walks are included in the price.

The staff feel like family and are very knowledgable.

Fall asleep to the sound of the jungle - unlike anything you would have experienced.

THE CONCEPT

Ever imagined falling asleep knowing there could be elephants, leopards, bears, and many other creatures of the jungle nearby? In the morning, you walk through the jungle to find bear scratchings just 200 metres away from your tent. If this sounds scary - it isn't. If it sounds like the trip of a lifetime - it is.

The Tree Tops Jungle Lodge is one of the only camping experiences in Sri Lanka where you actually spend the night in the jungle. The animals are scared of humans, so pose no threat to the lodge. But if you're lucky enough, curious elephants will pay a visit!

Owner Lars (from Denmark) and Operations Manager Kamal (from Sri Lanka) have created the perfect Jungle oasis over the past 15 years. Together with their team of wildlife and jungle experts and an extremely talented chef, they have created a tranquil getaway where you're literally on a full-time safari.

SUNRISE NEAR THE LODGE

THE SETTING

Tree Tops Jungle Lodge is built inside the boundaries of a protected forest, adjacent to Yala National Park. You don't even need to leave the dining area to be entertained by the many animals that call this place home. During our 3 night stay we saw a couple of tree snakes (non venomous and very curious), a giant squirrel above our heads during breakfast, frogs, butterflies, colourful lizards, and hundreds of different species of birds; from shimmering bright blue kingfishers, deep red wood peckers and brilliantly colourful peacocks dancing and calling for the females in the mornings from the tallest trees in the jungle.

Occasionally you'll even see elephants outside the tents or hear the sound of a leopard passing at night - it’s truly a wildlife lovers dream.

THE "CLAMPING TENT"

There are 3 large 'glamping' tents, keeping the accomodation truly tranquil and exclusive. Each tent has a huge bed, complete with mosquito net and warm blankets for the colder nights. There's also a seperate room with rustic shower, toilet and basin. You’ll have your own table and chairs on the outside patio to enjoy a morning cup of tea or coffee as the sun starts to lighten up the surrounding jungle. You’ll fall asleep to the relaxing sound of thousands of jungle animals chirping and whispering you good night.

Jungle Walking Safaris in Sri Lanka

THE BEGINNING OF A WALKING SAFARI

The activities.

Obviously wildlife observation is the biggest point of interest here. Guided morning and evening walks into the jungle are included in the accomodation cost. Walking Safaris are very rare in Sri Lanka, so this is a real treat- the guides have many years of experience and are extremely safety conscious.

Another huge advantage is accessing the nearby Yala National Park away from the masses. In the southern entrance, you can have up 30 jeeps queued around a leopard. However, Tree Tops is located near the lesser known northern entrance, which is completely uncrowded. The lodge has a safari jeep driver whom they've been using for the past 12 years, and leopard and elephant sightings are common.

Tree Tops is also one of the best places in Sri Lanka for bird watching; you won't even have to leave your tent's balcony to see the hundreds of different species.

Candle Light Dinner at Tree Tops Jungle Lodge

CANDLELIT DINNER

The food is a real highlight - especially the candlelit dinner. The curries are made to the spice level of your choice and everything is made from scratch to ensure freshness and incredible flavour. For breakfast there are eggs, coconut roti, dahl, grated coconut, fresh fruit and cheese. Lunch consists of huge fresh salads, pasta and curries. Dinner is a delicious selection of interchanging Sri Lankan vegetable curries with sambol, chutneys and other special treats. Again, everything is made fresh (even the coconut milk!) and is served as soon as it’s ready.

THE SERVICE

The first thing you notice when you arrive is Kamal (the manger) and his huge welcoming smile. Small touches by the staff really lift Tree Tops to the next level; such as providing unlimited bottled water, extra hot water for your coffee in case it’s too strong and even a full amenity pack with toothbrushes and shampoo. Before each meal, a staff member will explain each dish and answer any questions you have. We were even shown raw ingredients of what some of our curries were made of. It’s always exciting to know about food you’ve never heard of and what it looks like before it's chopped up! The staff are always on-hand to help out or answer any questions about the different animals and birds that constantly stop by.

Tarangire Treetops Lodge

Tarangire Treetops Lodge couple

Insider’s Review of Tarangire Treetops Lodge

We almost needn’t say that living for a while in an African treehouse is a sweetly common dream. But the reality at Tarangire Treetops out-magics armchair revery. Here, like Isak Dinesen, we wake “in the morning, and [think], Here I am, where I ought to be.”

Freshly brewed coffee in hand, we walk out on our treehouse’s broad balcony and revel quietly in the luxury of sweeping views across marvelously varietal landscapes: rocky outcrops, graceful hills, and Africa’s golden joy, golden savannah strewn generously with acacias and stately old baobabs, the homeland of just about all of the continent’s endlessly intriguing animals, including 2,500 or so elephants; “An ancient life force,” Peter Matthiessen called them, “delicate and mighty, awesome and enchanted, commanding the silence ordinarily reserved for mountain peaks, great fires, and the sea.”

Tarangire Treetops Lodge

Accommodations at Tarangire Treetops Lodge

Tarangire Treetops’ 20 treehouses resemble the treehouses of our youth like a humble Timex resembles a Patek Phillipe. Each is just a tad under 700 square feet, designed in a mixture of modern and traditional materials, and of course each features that revitalizing, viewful veranda, a full bath with double shower, wifi reception, and the unstinting service of the Lodge’s staff. The main lodge is nestled around a millennially wise old baobab tree, and the dining area overlooks a watering hole frequented by Tarangire’s animal citizens. And after a rousing game drive, a splash in the Lodge’s bright blue swimming pool is yet another Tarangire Treetops treat.

Activities at Tarangire Treetops Lodge

Tarangire Treetops is situated in a large private conservation area adjoining Tarangire National park . This is an area with a reputation for embodying the deepest African safari mystique.

Our Safari Director knows Tarangire ardently, and so we’ll get the colourful job descriptions and experience the charisma of Tarangire’s rich wildlife: giraffes (like “rare, long-stemmed, gigantic speckled flowers slowly advancing,” Isak Dinesen wrote), waterbucks, dik dik, Grant’s elegant gazelles, vervet monkeys, ever-busy baboons, along with cheetahs, almost 600 bird species, Taranagire’s exceptionally large elephant population, and, of course, its lions, who make one feel, Isak Dinesen wrote, “that everything else is so trivial—thousands of generations of unrestricted supreme authority….”

Expertly conducted night game drives out of Treetops are especially enticing as we watch the nocturnal take over from the day shift—and look up to a sky “bristling with innumerable stars, as close-packed as the quills on a porcupine,” as Elspeth Huxley remembered. And we’ll pay a respectful visit to our Safari Director’s old friends at a close-by Maasai village , a reminder that —as we often say—we come to Africa to see the animals, but leave in love with the people.

7 day Vic Falls/ Kruger adventure!!!
I can’t say enough about Kim and how much she did for me and my daughter to plan her 7 day Safari to Victoria Falls and Kruger Park. For myself to be in the USA and my daughter doing a medical internship in Cape Town, South Africa and the time difference, Kim was amazing in every way. The time difference in itself was a challenge but Kim was so helpful and was very quick to respond to me and my daughter at crazy times to make her trip perfect! Kims communication and most importantly making sure my daughter was Safe traveling solo was superb! Everything was planned and she wanted for nothing. Her flights and transfers were perfect along with her accommodations! She loved all of her safaris and the people were all amazing to her! Thank you so much for making a Madison’s Safari memorable in every way !

Testimonies

A Vision Made Real One of the most incredible features of this lodge is that when you are in your cottage, you feel like you’re outside, in the middle of the jungle, even though you may be standing barefoot in your living room, sipping a mug of coffee after just stepping out of a hot shower. [...] The food was some of the best I’ve had at any resort in Africa. The pool was a delicious way to cool off after a sweaty hike through the jungle. The Rwenzori mountains stretch up and down the horizon in the distance, patches of snow visible on their peaks. This is a premier destination lodge in Uganda. Go here.

Oasis in the jungle My stay at Turaco Treetops was incredible! You are right in the middle of the Kibale rainforest. Birds, monkeys and thousands of butterflies surround your private cabin. The staff makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive and the chef cooks healthy and delicious food. This is a precious treat in the midst of nature.

An amazing place to stay We arrived with a group of six tourists in this beautiful lodge on July13th. Wow...We could not believe our eyes. This is paradise ! There is an amazing swimming pool, an incredible view on the forest and a wonderful restaurant. Kids can play in the kid's corner while parents are enjoying their refreshing beers or something stronger.... The staff is always very kind and helpful. This lodge guarantees you a super stay in the pearl of Africa! Do not hesitate and book right now! You won't regret it! What a perfect stay! Thanks to the staff for your hospitality.

Great getaway! Relaxing. Just what we needed. Thanks!! Very relaxing and comfortable. Hot showers, nice pool. Right next to the forest. Our family relaxed by the pool. Staff were very friendly! Had a wonderful forest walk and heard the chimps in the distance. Will need to go again soon.

Fabulous Ugandan utopia The trip to Turaco Treetops teases you with a few glimpses of what awaits upon your arrival. You arrive at a pleasant visitor center just below the lodge. Staff are there to greet you with warm smiles and luggage assistance. Be sure to have your camera and head on a swivel to enjoy the colorful birds, flowers, lodge, pool and accommodations. The bungalows are well appointed with great views. The staff and food are wonderful. Everything is top notch! Enjoy!

Oasis of pure peaceful forest relaxation My experience at Turaco was super nice. From the moment we got there and the way we were received on arrival it was very welcoming. The rooms are nestled in the middle of the forest and it is super clean, warm, very spacious huge balcony, and quiet. If you are looking for peace and quiet. Need to rejuvenate away from the hustle and bustle of the city then this is the place to visit. It is not far from the main road so you don't need a 4x4 to access it. The owners are super nice and welcoming too. They interacted with all the guests every single day. I would recommend this place to anyone any day. Thanks Turaco Treetops.

2 amazing days at Turaco Treetops We just returned from a 13-day safari in Uganda and Turaco Treetops was hands down the best lodge we stayed at. Our room/cottage was completely secluded by the jungle, and we could spot birds and monkeys from the balcony. The "jungle immersion" is just fabulous. Food is good and service excellent.

An Instant Favorite--after 25 years in Africa I really can't say enough about how wonderful this stay is. I have lived in Uganda for nearly 25 years, and I have stayed in many wonderful lodges. This one is an instant favorite thanks to enchanting, comfortable cottages and decks (in the treetops), excellent management, stunning views, and delicious food (not at all easy to achieve in these locations--consider recruiting professional staff members, power challenges, supply-chains, "nature," etc.). And another major plus: value for money. Prices are very competitive. Go to TT. Go now.

Tree Tops Jungle Lodge

Eco Camp Stay

A pure nature living experience .

Tree Tops Jungle Lodge is situated in wild bush-forest at a quite remote location.  This is a semi-permanent eco camp operated by a locally recruited jungle team and the stay is an authentic nature experience, with a great sense of place.

We have built the place using mud and canvas as well as a re-wilded property and a vision.  The place is also based on the concept that our large jungle property is reserved for a truly limited number of guests. That’s why there are only three tented rooms.  All come with a king-size double bed, private toilet and shower in the tent.

tree tops jungle safari

Our ethos is to operate at a high hospitality level but with very little “hotel development” in order to preserve the original atmosphere.  In this way offering a taste of a wild Sri Lankan environment that is experienced in a silent and individual way, that feels good for the place, for the guests, for the wildlife, for the birds.

tree tops jungle safari

Tented chalet Rooms

Our purist set up with a few tented rooms and a mud-hut restaurant is meant to make an impression of a bush camp that conveys an unfiltered sense of the protected forest next to us.  Minimal facilitates are balanced and brought to life by a well-trained team of native people, impeccable service, tasty curry meals, local landscape walks and bird watching with our team.

The Tented Rooms

Featuring :.

  • Our 30 square meter tented chalet rooms are made on elevated cement platforms, makes a clean and safe interior environment
  • The rooms are designed for simple living in style, and and a great and emotional outdoor experience
  • The size of the tented rooms is devised to sleep two adults. They come with high ceilings and feel quite spacious
  • Each room has a large 6.5 x 7 square meter king-size bed. This four-poster bed has mosquito net, carefully selected foam mattresses as well as proper bedding and tailor made pillows
  • Bed-side solar powered lamps. Torches for outside use
  • Drinking water in clay jugs

tree tops jungle safari

  • En-suite bathroom fitted with ceramic sink, running water, shower, toilet, a big mirror
  • The shower has "cold" water (not really very cold in a hot tropical climate )
  • Each tent room has a large verandah with views into surrounding jungle and forest covered
  •        mountains
  • You can request a twin-bed set up
  • There is sufficient space to arrange one extra bed

The Mud Hut Restaurant

A thatched mud hut restaurant offers an atmospheric setting for candlelit dinners and with lounge space where guests can read a book and enjoy the views. In daytime a superb spot for bird watching.  In front of the mud hut restaurant a water hole is frequented by many species of birds.

tree tops jungle safari

The pond, the water hole

The distance to the water hole is sufficient to leave the pond with a quite undisturbed feel for the birds, while still close enough to observe birds with the high quality Nikon binoculars we provide.

tree tops jungle safari

The pond is also used, unseen, at night by various species of wild animals; some of them are wild boar, spotted deer and sambhar deer.  In certain parts of the year also used by wild elephants.

In such exciting situations where an elephant is observed, it is required and expected that guests understand the place as an … observation platform … and behave very discrete and with respect for the wild animals.

First of all – Try to be very quiet. Move with great care. Even better don’t move.  Try just to stay where you are. Because wild animals do not appreciate when two-legged humans move close to them.

A Sense of Locality

In chena and elephant country.

As an accommodation and camp living adventure the stay has been created to get the feel of sleeping under canvas in a jungle, while participating in an ancient local lifestyle next to wild habitats.

A wild living experience infused with an authentic cultural dimension, inspired by the local lifestyle of a traditional paddy- and chena farmers.Literally, the word chena farmer denotes slash-and-burn cultivation, an ancient method of farming in jungles, cultivating on plots of land in open clearings in the jungle. In wild regions farmers stay overnight in simple shelters, mud- or tree-huts, in cultivated plots – next to natural habitat from where wild animals may appear.

Still today, in the wet and harvest season farmers guard their fields at night, watching out for elephants, wild boar and other animals that may eat and destroy the rice and other crops at night.

The lodge team are native people and the ancient chena and farmer lifestyle is the traditional background of all our staff members. All grew up in families living this type of subsistence economy, farming culture existence.

Guests staying with us will take part in the conditions and impression of the ancient bufferzone, chena life style, living and sleeping next to wild habitat.

With our remote location, guests will experience an unusual, fundamental contrast between day and night.  In  … chena country  …  day and night are two really different chapters of the 24 hours day.

Electricity and Light

In the wilderness, we are off grid and there is only limited electric power, generated by a solar power system, sufficient to charge camera batteries, mobile phones, laptops etc.

tree tops jungle safari

A generator is used only, when we pump water from our well … or need to start a blender to make fruit juices.

Inside the tented room there are solar powered bed lamps. At night outdoor areas on the site are only illuminated by hurricanes.

The restaurant is illuminated by candle light – only.

Tree Tops Jungle Lodge operates as a camp and with homemade solutions to daily needs such as light and water. The water supply is ensured through the practical solutions we have designed ourselves. Water is pumped from our own freshwater well, constructed by us.

The team will pump water from the well and into a water tank in the camp which generates running water in the tented bathroom. Rain falls with seasonal variation. At certain times of the year drought can occur periodically. There will always be water but in the dry season guests may be requested to use water with more care.

Omsk , officially the Siberian Black League , is a warlord state in Western Siberia. Occupying the territory of the former Omsk Oblast, it borders Tomsk to the north, the Kazakh SSR to the south, Tyumen to the east, and Novosibirsk to the west.

  • 2.1 National spirits
  • 2.2 Cabinet
  • 3.1 Generals

Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union , the city of Omsk, initially held by the West Siberian People's Republic , was seized by a league of ultranationalists sharing views of anti-German sentiment and revanchism. Led by Dmitry Karbyshev 's All-Russian Black League, upon the seizing of Omsk, the ultranationalist regime had to industrialize and fortify it. In a way, some could say it's nothing but a fortified city in which the Black League militarizes and prepares for its future conflicts.

The political system of Omsk is governed as a militarist one-party state since its founding, ruled by Karbyshev and his like-minded comrades of the All-Russian Black League, an organization fanatically devoted to revanchism against the Greater Germanic Reich . However, at heart, Karbyshev is a Russian and while he sought to create an ultranationalist military state to take revenge against Germany, he did not account for the despots that wished to claim as much power as possible from him. Karbyshev is represented in-game as a dying man soon to fall, due to him leading a brutal military dictatorship, while being opposed to the radical rhetoric of his officer clique. The Black League has since become an ultranationalist state, even more radical in their hatred of Germany. Due to Karbyshev's declining health, many of the other officers have gained massive influence in the leadership of Omsk. The reality is that Karbyshev started a movement that assumed it was able to change the hearts of the despots with nationalism rather than terror; but it has since been corrupted beyond his visions, and there is little he can do to stop the train of degeneracy. Indeed, once Karbyshev dies and Omsk is still around, actual ultranationalist and General Dmitry Yazov will assume leadership of the Black League and prevent the despotic cliques from growing.

Under the sheer doctrine of anti-German sentiment, the theory of the “Great Trial” in Omsk comes in. This is where the warlord state will prepare for its final assault on the Reich, as revenge for the “First Trial” which brought the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the “Second Trial” being the West Russian War . Their hatred doesn't stop with just Germany, but it includes many who collaborated with them. Some officers of the Black League even go as far as to want to destroy the United States for not helping enough during the Great Patriotic War. In preparation for their war with Germany, they are expectant of nuclear strikes and so have started to construct massive metro tunnels to double as shelter from the warheads and radioactive fallout. The resolve of the Black League cannot be stopped, even with the threat of nuclear war.

Omsk is one of the hardest paths in TNO, due to it being weaker than a lot of the surrounding warlords and being unable to conduct diplomacy at all. To reunite Russia, Omsk will have to fight every single state in its way. Their end goal is the complete extermination of the Reich and the German people, and they will stop at nothing to reach this. They are hard-coded for hostility and are always at war with someone, but an AI Omsk will almost always never be successful. Despite being founded on nothing but hatred, when they unify Western Siberia and start to emerge on the international stage, they actually try to conceal their ideology and ambitions from foreign influences. They stick with a nondescript name of the “West Siberian Provisional Authority” under the guise of a protective military authority and switch their ideology to “Despotism”.

National spirits

After Dmitry Yazov comes to power and purges the Black League's old guard, the cabinet changes to:

Omsk has at least eleven generals.

  • Ironically, according to a former developer of West Siberia, Omsk at one point had a National Socialist path as a "sane" option, due to now-former head developer Pink Panzer wanting every region in Western Siberia to have multiple paths. This was changed after the other developers convinced him to have Omsk only have one path.
  • Omsk was partially inspired by the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia , a militant group that aspired to carve out an ethnic Armenian homeland in eastern Turkey.
  • 1 SS State of Burgundy
  • 2 Joseph Stalin
  • 3 Sergey Taboritsky
