There’s nothing quite like sitting out on a finished deck on a warm summer evening. If you’re an RVer who resides in your rig seasonally or long-term at an RV park, you can easily add a beautiful deck to your campsite. While it may seem like a lot of work, there are a variety of RV deck build options for amateur DIYers, as well as some pre-purchased options for less handy individuals.

This article will examine the factors you should consider when choosing an RV deck, the various design options available, and even a guide on how to build your own! With that, let’s jump in.

Benefits of Installing an RV Deck

Build your own or purchase one, permanent or removable, cost of an rv deck, accessibility, portable deck, floating deck, covered deck, screened-in porches, adding outdoor furniture to your rv deck, rv decks with a grill or smoker, 1. grade the landscape, 2. lay concrete pier blocks, 3. add piers and joists, 4. install the decking boards, 5. add finishes steps, ramps, and banisters, 6. stain and weathercoat, conclusion: enjoy rv life with a new deck.

Adding a nice deck to your RV is an amazing way to enhance your lifestyle. Some benefits include:

  • Extends Your Living Space: Adding a deck can add some serious square footage to your rig, essentially adding an entirely new room!
  • Looks Awesome: Your neighbors will gawk at your setup once you’ve installed a full-sized porch onto your RV.
  • You Can Relax Outside: Add some deck furniture and you can kick back and relax, all while taking in some fresh air.

Things to Consider When Choosing Your Deck

Before you jump head first into an RV deck, there’s a variety of considerations you’ll need to make. Let’s look at some of the most important factors involved in your deck decision.

Deciding whether or not you’d like to build your own RV deck is the first decision you need to make. If you’re handy enough, constructing your own deck is a straightforward and rewarding process. Alternatively, you can also enlist the help of some people experienced in carpentry.

If you’re not looking to put in much work, you can choose to purchase a portable folding RV deck or come up with a solution that doesn’t require advanced woodworking skills.

Top Travel Trailer and RV Deck Ideas + How to Build Your Own 2

Deciding on a permanent RV deck or removable one is entirely dependent on the way you RV. If you own your own camp, installing a permanently fixed deck is the way to go. If you keep your RV at a campground seasonally or reside at an RV park, this option can also work but be sure to check the policies of the establishment you’re staying at.

If your RV park or campground doesn’t allow permanent porches, investing in a portable deck that can be easily removed is the best option.

If you’re looking to build a proper deck, you should be prepared to spend anywhere from $1,000-$2,000. Lumber is expensive, and if you choose expensive finishes, stains, or fixtures, your price will only increase. Makeshift decks can dramatically reduce costs and can be constructed with pallets and salvaged wood.

Portable RV decks are also quite expensive and can cost anywhere from $1,200-$2,400.

The quality and grade of materials you select when building your deck are the biggest factors in determining the cost, as well as the appearance. You’ll want to invest in treated wood, as the deck will be exposed to outdoor elements. If you fancy a higher-end RV deck, you can choose from premium wood selections like redwood and cedar. Once the deck is constructed, you’ll also have to decide on a stain and top coat to finish off the project.

A final consideration to make when constructing your RV deck is accessibility. Will anyone that’s mobility impaired be using it? If so, you may want to consider a deck that’s low to the ground or consider installing a ramp instead of stairs for guests to walk up.

The Best Travel Trailer RV Deck Ideas

Ready to add a deck to your camper? Great! There are countless design options that you can draw inspiration from, and even more ways to decorate the deck once it’s built. Let’s check out some of our favorites.

Top Travel Trailer and RV Deck Ideas + How to Build Your Own 3

Sunrise Decks makes a variety of custom fabricated deck options for your camper, fifth wheel , or travel trailer. These decks are highly adjustable to fit the exact dimensions of your rig. With telescoping legs, they quickly match the height of your camper, and you can purchase modular options to add additional deck space.  No carpentry is required!

While expensive, these decks have an extremely secure construction and are perfect for pets and folks with mobility issues.

A floating deck is one of the easier RV deck ideas on this list. If your campsite is frequently affected by rain, and you’re sick of stepping out of your rig into a muddy mess, installing a floating deck will keep you elevated from the ground.

Fabricating one of these is super simple and just requires pallets and cinder blocks. Do your best to excavate the porch area to make it level, place supporting cinder blocks on the corners and in the middle of the deck area, and lay down some weather-treated pallets. Place some screws in between the pallets to keep them secure, and you have yourself a quick, functional RV deck!

This is one of the more permanent RV deck ideas on the list, but if you have the space and DIY knowledge it’s a great option! Adding a roof to your existing RV deck requires more advanced carpentry skills, but doing so will greatly enhance the functionality of your porch.

A covered RV deck will block the sunlight, offering much-needed shade on those hot summer days. It’ll also allow you to enjoy the outdoors even in rainy weather. Nothing is better than relaxing on your porch with a cup of coffee during a morning rain storm!

Similar to a covered deck, adding a screened-in option around it is only an option for more permanent RVers. If you RV in a location that commonly has insect problems, a screened-in deck completely mitigates the problem of annoying bugs. No more need for mosquito repellent, tiki torches, or fly swatters! You’ll be able to enjoy the summer nights in peace.

Once you’ve got your perfect deck installed, decorating and furnishing it is crucial! This will contribute to a homey look that makes your RV deck look like a warm, inviting living space. Some options for outdoor furniture and accessories include:

  • Outdoor Sofa: A comfy outdoor sofa that’s water and UV resistant is a necessity for your porch. You can sit back and enjoy a good book or even take a little cat nap.
  • High Top Drink Bar with Stools: Turn your RV deck into your friend’s favorite gathering point. With a fully functioning alcohol bar and some high-top bar stools, good times are in store.
  • Propane Fireplace: Make a propane firepit the center place of your RV deck. Kick it on late at night during the summer for some smores and stargazing.
  • String Lights: Everyone loves accessory lighting. Install some LED string lights around the perimeter of your deck, on the railing, or high above, to liven up the space.

Adding an outdoor kitchen is one of the top RV deck ideas that many RVers go for. Everyone loves grilling outdoors, and you can easily set one up on your new porch. If you’re really into grilling, consider getting an outdoor smoker for some delicious homemade BBQ.

How to Build Your Own RV Deck

Unless you’re willing to dish out a few thousand dollars for a manufactured portable RV deck, building your own is your best option. You can choose the simple route, and stick with cement blocks and a couple of pallets as mentioned earlier, but if you’re looking for a quality addition to your RV, build a proper deck.

A basic deck requires very little construction knowledge to take on, and a simple assortment of materials. The tools you’ll need for the job include:

  • A Circular Saw
  • Sander
  • Decking Screws
  • Measuring Tape

Here’s a quick breakdown of how to build your own RV deck in just 6 steps.

Before you even start constructing your deck, you’ll want to make sure that there’s a nice clear plot of ground to build on top of. Spend some time stripping away any grass or weeds that are currently growing. If your campsite is naturally rocky, use a hoe to pry up some of the larger rocks. Finally, scrape down the exposed dirt with a rake to make a nice smooth surface to build on.

If you have the time and patience, it’s also worth leveling the area you’ll be building on. You don’t need to be absolutely perfect, but digging out uneven ground will make the installation much easier.

Top Travel Trailer and RV Deck Ideas + How to Build Your Own 9

Once you clear the land, you’ll need to lay a proper foundation for your deck to rest on. Add rows of deck blocks where you’ll be laying joists to support the deck. The more pier blocks you add, the sturdier your deck will be, so don’t skimp! A good rule of thumb is to lay one block every one foot, separated by rows that are three feet apart.

Be sure to purchase blocks that have a natural 4×4 recess in them so that your pier posts slide right in! Once each block is laid, use a level to ensure they’re all flush. If needed, lower higher blocks into the soil slightly.

Top Travel Trailer and RV Deck Ideas + How to Build Your Own 10

Once your deck pier blocks are added, cut the same number of 4×4 posts to the desired height of your deck. Slide these posts into the concrete blocks and secure them, if needed. Double-check with a level again to make sure that everything is even.

Add some flanking joists, in the form of 2×6 planks, width-wise across the deck. Screw these into the 4×4 piers.

Top Travel Trailer and RV Deck Ideas + How to Build Your Own 11

Once your piers and joists are all installed, it’s time to add your decking boards! Choose the wood material of your liking and adequately screw them into the joists at each pier location.

With the piers, joists, and decking boards installed, you can choose to install extra fixtures like stairs or a railing. If your RV deck is low enough on the ground, you can choose to skip the stairs in lieu of a small wooden step or concrete slab.

For the finishing touch, sand down the deck and stain it with your preferred finish. Be sure to add enough layers so that it’ll last, and top it off with strong weather coating sealant .

Top Travel Trailer and RV Deck Ideas + How to Build Your Own 12

If your campsite or RV park allows it, installing a deck on your RV can be a beautiful addition. Building your own is an easy DIY project that can be accomplished in a couple of days, leaving you with a lasting outdoor extension on your RV. Fortunately, there are even options for those not looking to take on a carpentry project.

With these RV deck ideas, you’re well equipped to start turning your RV deck into a relaxing outdoor living space. Kick back, relax, and enjoy everything that the space has to offer.

14 inspiring RV Deck Ideas

I have included some beautiful RV decks from Instagram, a few YouTube videos showing how to build an RV deck, and some RV deck decorating ideas to enhance your RV’s outdoor space.

Just note, not all these camper deck ideas are going to work for your situation.

So make sure to scroll through them all to see which ones catch your eye.

RV Deck Idea #1 – simple square deck

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Driftwood Manor (@driftwood.manor)

This is a simple, yet awesome and functional RV deck.

The clever thing they did with this is they built to deck to have a double-duty: they also use the deck as an RV step stabilizer. They built the deck to go underneath the bottom step of their stairs and this helps stop their RV from swaying.

You see in their photo description they say it is quieter too.

In one of their other Instagram photos it shows them building the deck frame. I can’t be certain, but it looks like the built the base using 2×6’s set on concrete deck blocks .

Check out their Instagram profile for additional pictures.

RV Deck Idea #2 – A fantastic RV deck and cover idea

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Bill Holmes (@billholmes1971)

Check out this awesome deck with covered roof. They’ve done a great job making their RV deck look inviting and festive with some awesome decor. Plus, the deck has a covered metal roof protecting them from the elements . This probably helps keep the inside of the RV cleaner too…they can leave their dirty shoes outside.

You can’t really see the roof in this photo, but this Instagrammer has other photos on his Instagram profile. Check it out if you want to get a better idea of how this RV deck looks from multiple angles . (You can click “View Profile” button in top right corner of the above picture.)

RV Deck Idea #3 – long RV deck spans length of RV

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Chase Conger (@projectconger)

Here is a great wooden deck that is long enough that it spans the length of the trailer . You can read his description above to see how he built it. And if you click the arrows in the picture above you can see “in progress” pics.

I like how he chose deck dimensions to minimize wood waste and labor time. He bought 16-foot long 2×4’s as the base, so he made the length of the deck 32-feet long. And the deck is 6-feet wide so he only had to cut the 12-foot deck boards in half to get the deck surface.

Looks very good.

Now want to see the follow-up pics… Here’s how it looks 2 years later

travel trailer deck ideas

The 2 pictures above show how the deck looks 2 years after being built. And that is with no stain or sealer.

Still looks awesome. Thank you to ProjectConger for sharing these photos with us!

RV Deck Idea #4 – movable “floating deck” sections

View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Smiths (the-knee-house你好) (@the_nihaouse_trailer)

This is a good example of movable RV deck. Each of the sections is 6-feet x 8-feet so I wouldn’t say it is super portable…but they could be moved.

Instead of having all the boards go in the same direction and look mundane, they made it more visually appealing by staggering the direction of the deck boards .

If you click the arrow button on the right side of the picture above you can see the “in progress” photo of this RV deck.

They keep the wood off the ground by setting the 2×4 base on top of cinder blocks. Then they used shims to get it level. (In this case it looks like they use an old kitchen cabinet door to prop up one end.)

RV Deck Idea #5 – deck with railing for added security

RV deck ideas - RV deck with railings for safey

This RV deck features a railing which is a good safety feature, and may be required depending on how high you make your RV deck.

It is a little hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like they made this deck using composite deck boards (plastic mixed with wood fibers). These are a great low-maintenance decking option. And it looks to be sitting on solid concrete footings…not movable concrete blocks (but I may be wrong?).

RV Deck #6 – pallet RV deck

This is a very cool deck that they built out of pallets. You can usually find pallets for free on second-hand marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace.

The cost of wood has really gone up (in my neck of the woods anyway) so a cheap RV deck idea like this one is appealing. Watch the video above to see how they did it.

RV Deck Idea #7 – Decks from Sunrise Decks

View this post on Instagram A post shared by mepiper (@rvdecks)

The company Sunrise Decks (located near Dallas Texas) makes a line of RV decks and porches that can installed without tools.

These RV decks would be excellent for seasonal campsites or permanent installations.

They have a lot more great pictures on their Instagram account which I encourage you to check out.

RV Deck Idea #8 – a portable RV Deck

These guys built their RV deck in modular sections with the goal of being able to move them around in a pickup truck when they leave their seasonal camping site.

It turned out well and the RV mat on it looks good too.

RV Deck Idea #9 – fantastic raised RV deck

In this video he shows how he built this awesome raised RV deck . He built it level with the door of the trailer so he doesn’t need to walk up RV steps to get in: he can walk up the solid wood stairs of the deck.

He said has a permanent site, so he shouldn’t need to move his trailer too frequently.

RV Deck Idea #10 – RV deck decorating ideas: deck lights

SUNFACE Solar Deck Lights Outdoor, 2 Modes LED Solar Fence Lights Waterproof, Garden Solar Decorative Step Lights (6Pack)

How cool would these deck lights look on your RV deck? They look great but they can also clearly define the edge of your deck.

The ones shown above are popular on Amazon and people seem to like them.

RV Deck Idea #11 – incredible RV outdoor living space

View this post on Instagram A post shared by RV Renovations Ranch (@rv.reno.ranch)

Just look at the RV deck on this AirBnB listing!

It is a full entertaining space: an outdoor RV living space .

And the string of globe lights make it look magical .

RV Deck Idea #12 – RV deck decorating ideas – globe lights

Arbrac 100ft Outdoor String Lights Waterproof/Connectable/Dimmable with 62 LED Shatterproof Bulbs UL Listed, G40 Globe 2700K Patio Lights Outdoor Lighting for Backyard Porch Cafe Party Wedding Garden

I was inspired by the RV deck idea #11 to include globe lights in this section. These are LED bulbs so they shouldn’t be as power-hungry as incandescent bulbs.

How much will these transform your RV outdoor living space?

These globe lights are popular on Amazon . These are the 100-foot long string, but you may only need a shorter, 50-foot string for your RV deck.

RV Deck Idea #13 – Dorothy’s handmade wooden deck

travel trailer deck ideas

I came across this gem while researching Googling images for this article. So I reached out to the deck builder and she was nice enough to allow me to share this with you.

The deck builder’s name is Dorothy, and on her website she does a great job of showing us the steps it took to build this deck. You can see in the picture above that her ground was sloping so she had some challenges that she overcame with careful measuring, and adjustable post brackets.

travel trailer deck ideas

In the photo above you can see the concrete piers that set in the ground and then the adjustable metal brackets holding up the vertical 4×4 posts.

For more details on how she built this incredible RV deck … check out her website.

RV Deck Idea #14 – beautiful wood deck with a removable section

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Solid Angle Homes Inc (@solidanglehomesinc)

Click the arrow in the photo above to see the finished deck . (Small arrow on right side of the picture.)

See what they did there?

Pretty cool…they made the small section that is near the front of the trailer movable so if the trailer needs to be moved and the backed in again, that small section can be out of the way.

This was built by the folks at “ Solid Angle Homes Inc ”

I hope you’ve found some inspiration in this list of RV decks. I’m considering this a “work in progress” and I hope to add more pictures of RV decks as I find them.

Best RV Deck Ideas (How To Build & Design Ideas)

RV Deck Ideas – As a paint job is the quickest way to transform RV, a deck is also the fastest way to add space. Primarily, decks are made of wood material or vinyl.  Redwood, cedar, and pressure-treated pine are popular for decking. Furthermore, not only practical, deck materials offer beauty and warmth.

If you intend to stay in one location for a long time, building a deck for your RV is recommended. When the weather is nice, a deck allows you to enjoy camping in a wider space than RV living room. For that reason, a deck enhances your comfort and gives you a defined central space for hanging out.

How to Build A Portable Deck for RV

portable rv deck plans

Basically, the type of deck you build depends on whether it will be temporary or long term. If you are staying at the campsite for a short time, simple design or portable deck is all you need. However, if you are staying put for a while, you might need a little sturdier deck. Below we put some easy steps to help you build your own RV deck.

The Preparation

Make a plan.

simple deck plans

Planning is essential as it will accelerate the overall progress when you build the deck. Therefore, you have to make a proper plan ahead of time for the deck design and material requirements. So that way you can prepare the exact amount of material to use. Besides, for safety reasons, you also need to take into consideration the weight your deck has to endure.

Get the tools

skydeck rv

Generally, you will need a saw, a drill, a screwdriver, a hammer, and a tape measure. Also, you need protective gear to protect you from plenty of dust and splinter.

Prepare the materials

double decker rv trailer

Wood is commonly the preferred choice for a deck. However, you should only use pressure-treated lumber. Go for the stuff that is light and tough. Plus, you need high-quality glue to prevent your deck from disintegrating quickly.

Building a Portable Deck for RV

Find the right location

how to build rv porch

Select a location that’s suitable to set up the deck base. Choose a flat surface or level the ground to prevent it from wobbling when you use it. Then, create the deck base with a concrete block to make it a sturdy foundation.

Build the post and set the joist

rv with built in deck

When the deck base is in place, start cutting some posts out of the wood beam.  After that, use glue or screw to attach them to each block. Then, construct a series of straight and liner joists to connect all the block posts. The stability of the deck relies a lot on this step, thus, you need to pay close attention. Furthermore, every block must stay neatly in line. Also, every post has to be at the same height. One mistake here could cost the entire project, stay focus!

Time to create the steps

rv deck kits

Cover the deck and create a couple of steps. After the joists and posts look good enough, start covering everything with multiple wood planks. Lay the plank side by side till there is no visible gap left and secure them in place. The ideal length is 48 inches, though you probably have to squeeze in a shorter plank at the end.  After that, time to build some steps. Gather the stringer and the board in a manner that suits you the most. Don’t secure them until you are sure about the position and shape. Use as many boards as you want to increase the steps. However, you need to consider that a heavy stair would limit the deck portability.

Simple Deck Plans

rv roof deck plans

There are three things you need to consider before determining the size of the deck: how you plan to use it, how many people it will accomodate, and the size of outdoor furniture and accessories. Some people do just fine laying out an RV mat or even a rug. There are also low deck that you can put on the ground then pick up easily and take with you when you move on down the road. Others elevate their decks several feet from the ground. It all depends on personal preference. Below we put some simple deck plans that might inspire you

Ground Level Deck

rv deck decorating ideas

The ground level deck is a great way to add some livability to your RV. It can be a perfect place to hang out and barbecue. However, since the ground level decks are so low, with only inches from dirt, the materials have to endure a damp environment. Therefore, use pressure-treated beams and joists to protect the deck from rot and insect attack. Furthermore, if you prefer cedar, redwood, or some other wood, give the undersides a coat of finish or water sealer before installing them.

Mid-Elevation Deck

simple deck plans

The mid-elevation deck can make your RV deck looks more sophisticated. Besides, since the deck is not placed on the ground, it prevents the wood from getting damp. Therefore, it will need less maintenance.

RV Deck Design Ideas

travel easy decks

The deck is a cheap and easy option to enhance your comfort while traveling. Besides, even if you use high-end materials, it will not cost you a lot. Moreover, it can be customized to your wants and needs. Thus, below, we put some inspirations for a relaxing RV deck design ideas.

Instant Deck

rv deck cover ideas

The deck provides additional living space in outdoor. Not only simple, but the leg of the deck also prevents the wood from the damp ground. Also, the roof would offer shade, making the deck more enjoyable when the heat is too intense. And when it’s chilly, you can move on the roofless area to get warmed up.

Simple Mid-Size Deck

building a portable deck

The simple design allows you to decor the deck as your budget and imagination allow. This deck looks stunning with the right amount of accessories, such as the plant and the dining chairs and table. In addition, the warm light makes the deck even more elegant.

Awesome RV Deck Design Ideas + How to Build a Deck

Permanent RV deck Designs 2

These awesome RV deck design ideas are perfect for any make or model!

From traditional arts and crafts style to sleek and modern, you’ll find an RV deck design that suits you and your needs. You’ll also learn how to build a floating RV deck quickly and easily.

RV’s are a smart choice for both full-time living and temporary travel. They can be used in a multitude of ways; as an affordable tiny home, a vacation or weekend cabin, or as a traveling home on wheels.

These awesome RV deck designs can help keep your camper clean, create an attractive outdoor living space, and increase the overall enjoyment of your RV.

Richard’s Modern RV Deck Design

Our first RV deck design was submitted to us by Richard Quick. He allowed us to feature his gorgeous Florida manufactured home last year.

Richard’s new fifth wheel is set up in the popular Sawmill Camping Resort in Dade City, Florida for weekend getaways. The campground, like many across the country, is fairly strict and has a board of directors that must approve all RV modifications.

Richard’s favorite style is modern and warm. He wanted a custom RV deck design that had a modern design with high usability. He found a contractor that turned his vision into reality with a few specifications: the design had to meet the board’s approval and be transportable.  The deck needed to slide out and be stored easily while on the road.

RV Deck Design - Portable, Stylish and Modern Style

The deck’s skirting panels are lightweight and easy to move when necessary. The hidden staircase creates a ‘soft entry’ and the platform has benches that create a welcoming area to take your shoes off or have an afternoon drink.

RV Deck Design - Portable, Stylish and Modern Style 2

The multi-color design is a perfect representation of the ‘California Modern’ style.  Richard admits he was a bit hesitant when his contractor showed up with four cans of stain color: green tea, ebony, mahogany, and dove gray. He states, “Never in a million years would l think all those colors would work together!” Luckily, Richard went with the design and the results are incredible.

The front and side skirting below the outdoor storage areas are slotted and lift out easily.

How to Build Your Own RV Deck

Dorothy Ainsworth purchased her camper for $2500 and set it up on her property. Next, she built a portable deck that can be removed easily whenever she wants to take the camper on the road.

Dorothy does a magnificent job of journaling her RV deck design and building process on her blog . In addition, it is a great resource for anyone that is interested in self-reliance, affordable home building, and property development. Visit her at dorothyainsworth.com .

Step 1: Laying Concrete Pier Blocks

Below are a few photos chronicling Dorothy’s RV deck build. She began the build by having the property graded before the camper was placed.

The next step was to lay concrete deck blocks and piers. Learn more about post and beam foundations and concrete block piers here.

For portable, floating decks and sheds it isn’t always necessary to have footings poured below the frost line.

Deck blocks are a fairly new product that allows for quick and easy deck foundations. They are best suited for ground-level or low-level decks that will be no more than 3 foot off the ground (you can use them for higher builds if the blocks are installed with in-ground footers).

Learn more about concrete deck blocks and floating decks on Home Depot’s Blog.

Dorothy set 20 concrete blocks into the hard-packed soil beneath the gravel.

Step 2: Setting the Piers and Joists

Once the concrete blocks were laid, the 4X4 piers were set into the block brackets at the appropriate height. These concrete blocks are very convenient; they can be placed just about anywhere and manipulated to get the needed height.

Dorothy ran 16′ long, 2×6 joists along each side of the 4×4 posts in each row and attached them by screws.

Steps 3-5: Decking Boards, Steps, and Staining

The Douglas Fir decking boards were then laid over the joists, steps were built, and the completed deck was stained.

Choosing the Right Lumber for Your RV Deck

Choosing which type of lumber you use on your deck is as important as the design. You’ll need to take several things into account: weight, durability, insect and waterproofing, staining ease, and longevity.

There are three basic types of decking lumber:

  • Composite Wood

The end result was a low profile, floating deck that looks great in front of the camper.

Long Term RV Deck Designs

Permanent, or long-term, RV setups are most used for full time living situations and vacation homes. These installations are most popular near high traffic vacation spots such as lakes, rivers, and beaches.

There are some amazing camper retrofits that use decking to create smart outdoor living spaces. The following are permanent decking designs in a popular Canadian tourist area featured on Michael Geller’s blog :

This next deck and railing is a beautiful addition to a 30 foot recreational vehicle. These longer RV’s are typically used for permanent vacation housing as they are more difficult to move.

How to Build A Portable Deck For Your RV

Hey! This site is reader-supported and we earn commissions if you purchase products from retailers after clicking on a link from our site.

If you’re like me, you prefer the feel of your feet walking across a nice wooden RV deck. Yes, many campgrounds offer permanent sites at ground level with expanded laying concrete pier blocks or pads laid out with additional concrete blocks areas specifically for your outdoor grill or furniture, but in many cases, these can be rough and uncomfortable to walk on, or too smooth and when wet can be very slick to walk on.

For many RVers, the alternative to bare concrete blocks, gravel, or in the case of boondocking in some remote areas in the southwest area of the U.S., the desert and dry, baron part of our country. Many RVers choose to lay down a piece of carpet or indoor/outdoor artificial grass for extra living space, but the problem with those applications is that they hold sand or dirt, and worse yet, water or moisture. Hence, some start thinking of RV deck ideas.

When you break camp to move on to your next seasonal site, do you really want to roll up and load up a piece of wet carpet to one of your storage bays? My guess is no, and in this article, we’ll look at a great alternative for providing comfortable seating and lounging area with the RV deck, that is easily assembled and transported in your RV, whether you drive a 5th wheel, travel trailer, or any other type of motorhome.

That’s where the RV deck comes in, so let’s dig into some RV deck ideas to help you create and build a deck.

The Decking

These 24” x 24” RV deck blocks are made from Ipe (pronounced “EE-pay) wood, dense wood that comes from South America. Much like teak, its density allows its longevity to be far longer than most lumber made from softer woods such as pine or maple. In fact, when properly care for, it can last for over 75 years making it very suitable for an RV deck.

I never refer to an RV, an RV deck, or any of its accessories as an investment, and I won’t with this product either. However, buying a product with a longevity of 75 years is well worth the extra cost of many of its competitors with similar designs.

Connecting Your RV Deck Blocks

The tools needed for securing your portable RV deck panels in place for long-term stays or short stays are easy when using the DeckWise connectors. I recommend using the four-way connectors.

Each RV deck panel comes with a pre-drilled countersunk hole that lines up with the floating deck connectors and those connectors hold the RV deck tightly in place.

Once in place on the RV deck, these connectors will hold your portable deck securely and are easily removed and installed between visits to various camping locations. In fact, an 8’ x 10’ portable wooden RV deck can be quickly assembled in less than an hour once you have learned how easy it is to accomplish this floating deck task.

One of my favorite DeckWise connector designs is that they include pre-molded lines on the underside of the connectors that allow you to bend them so that they detach from the other part of the connector on the RV deck. This makes it easy to hide your connectors under the framework of your RV deck on its outer sides.

On the downside, it’s likely that while your properly cared for Ipe wood decking boards will last 75 years, these plastic components will last a fraction of that time. In fact, I would expect them to fail within 3-5 years as they can’t hold up to moisture, UV light, and other natural elements that the RV deck will be exposed to, so you should plan on inspecting or replacing them on a regular basis.

Proper Care for Your Ipe Wood

Ipe wood is extremely dense and as such it doesn’t absorb protective oils as easily as softwoods. However, the real reason to apply an oil treatment to Ipe is that it shields the RV decks from UV exposure or rather, sunlight damage.

As a rule, Brazilian Walnut or Ipe, will always have a rich, dark grain much like teak wood or ebony. However, over time sunlight will bleach these hues out of the wood grain and the wood will eventually become more of a gray tone so I would apply some wood oil to prevent this from happening.

  • Trans oxide pigments offer a slight brown tint for U.V. defense and enhances the natural wood beauty

It will also cause some additional cracking on the RV deck surface, and while not taking too much away from its longevity, you would be well advised to regularly care for your decking and its connectors.

Are There Other Alternatives?

Yes, but you’ll find that most alternatives will have more components and will take you longer to set up. For example, this product made of Acacia wood comes in 12” x 12” panels that are secured in place by using Polypropylene carbonate (PPC) framework forms that allow you to snap them in place piece by piece.

What Is Acacia Wood?

Like Teak and Ipe wood, this lumber is very dense and is a plantation type of wood. In other words, it grows quickly, is good for construction in outdoor locations and it’s easily harvested using shorter growing timelines. While Acacia wood can be farmed in South America’s wetter locations, it’s best suited for harvesting in places located in southeast Asia and this helps to keep it’s cost lower.

Acacia wood does require some maintenance such as staining, or it will discolor over time. To be honest, staining the wood can add a few years of life onto the wood, but in all reality, it won’t be much.

Using Plastic Polymers for Framing

The biggest problem I have with using Polypropylene carbonate (PPC) forms for holding your wood products in place is that as a rule, plastic is unreliable in terms of when it’s matched with environmental issues. Too often, these plastic substrate products don’t stand up to varied temperatures, ultraviolet lighting and uneven surfaces and are likely to fail far more quickly than using a design that is based upon a long lasting wooden slat design such as the Ipe wood framework.

Final Thoughts

Whatever your choice is when choosing a portable deck to travel with, keep in mind that these components will take up storage living space in your camper as well as time to set them up when you decide to use them. Are those factors something you’re willing to deal with during your travels? Also, having a portable deck is defiantly a way to make eating outdoors more pleasurable .

If they’re not, then buy yourself a small piece of indoor/outdoor carpet and use it instead. On the other hand, if you intend to stay at a location for an extended stay, then a nice wooden RV deck would work better for you. It’s really all about what you prefer to do, as is all traveling the country in your RV.

As always, thanks so much for following along with my RV deck ideas and I’m happy that I can share my thoughts with you. Once again, my friends, I wish you safe travels and I hope to see you out on the road someday.

Outdoor living is perhaps one of the single biggest draws to folks who own and travel in their RV’s. However, we know the pain that comes with setting up all the outdoor trinkets. The chairs , tables, grill, dog pen , campfire in can , dog run, rugs , and various kid’s play-things. This can be absolutely daunting. Creating a safe area that is free from mud, dust, bugs, and other undesirables is a monumental task at most RV parks. A fully portable and fold-able RV deck or RV patio is the simple solution to many of these issues yet no such thing exists to retrofit to a RV. Buyer’s Guide

Now it's time for the buyer's guide. Here we look at portable decks in greater detail. We advise on working out what size decking you need for. We also look at the different types of portable decking for RV living, and offer tips to think of before assemble yours, and then a guide on how to install them. Happy reading!

What Size Deck Do I Need?

The first thing you need to decide and plan is the size of the deck required for your RV. This is a very important step, as planning saves you a lot of frustration later on. With the precise specifications in mind, you can easily decide on the amount of material you will need in the construction of your deck.

You also have to keep in mind the weight of the deck, along with some safety issues. To decide on the size of the portable deck, you must first understand that the narrowest stair width is around 36 inches. You can extend this width but avoid going below this minimum number.

Usually, the standard platform available is 45” x 45”, which could be the perfect size for your RV. However, before investing in these, make sure that you check the camping ground regulation in your area since many places have strict regulations about  adding accessories and modifications .

How to Choose a Portable Deck

To pick one of these, you will have to do a lot of research on their types, material, and other features. To make choosing easy for you, the following are the top features you must look for when buying the best portable deck for your RV or trailer.

Many materials today require no maintenance at all, and this makes them the ideal purchase. Cheap materials do act perfectly well for your deck but require ongoing maintenance such as regular cleaning to prevent them from changing color or rotting. When choosing the material, you get two options; plastic and wood.

Plastic requires minimal maintenance and are the best options to buy. They are durable and are also mold proof. They require no staining at all and are even available in different colors.

On the other hand, natural wood is also a great choice since it comes with inherent beauty. These wood decks are pest-resistant and highly durable, and they can easily last for decades.

Both these options are good, and you can invest in either for your deck.

Type of Portable Decks

You can invest in these decks or get a portable step as well as free-standing step units. Like models that provide you with easy access to the door, these portable steps also have the same function.

They have attachable handrails, similar to the decks, and are also lightweight and compact to use, making them the perfect product to acquire.

Convenience

This is another feature you must look for. A good design that provides you with the convenience you need is a must. Many decks come with foldable steps that make it easy for you to carry your groceries.

Some even come with flooring and railings and the underside has fiberglass on it, allowing them to be painted such that it matches the color of your RV. This convenience provides you with your money’s worth.

How do I order a Sunrise Portable RV Deck?

You can order one of our stock Portable RV Decks safe and secure with PayPal from our website store.  For other models,  we want to be sure that the deck will fit your needs so we like to have a conversation with you to check the measurements and configurations.  We then will take a credit card to place the order.  We ask for a 50% deposit and then  charge the balance when the deck is ready to ship.

How long does it take to set up a Sunrise Deck?

Most folks can set up or take down a standard size Sunrise Deck in less than 15 minutes once they’ve done it a couple of times. The first time you set the deck up, you will need to unwrap all the parts, which have been packaged for extra protection during shipment. Also, the steps initially come unassembled. Once they have been assembled the first time, most people will leave the stair-case in one piece which saves time later. It may take 45 minutes to an hour the first time you set one up.

Is the Sunrise Deck easy to store?

Once disassembled, the Sunrise Deck parts can be stored away in a storage compartment below the RV or in the back of a trunk or pickup. The dimensions of a deck broken down depend a bit on exactly which one you have but for example, the Kingston-32 Series decks will break down into 3 basic items: The staircase left assembled will be 50” x 26” x 6”, The decking is in 3 pieces and will stack to a size of 17”x 46” x 5”, the rest of the frame parts will fit into a space that is 52” x 18” x 8”.

How much does a Sunrise Deck weigh?

The great thing about the Sunrise deck is that it was designed to be very sturdy when assembled but light enough for just about anyone to handle when taken apart for storage. The decks vary in weight depending on exactly which one you order but for example the Kingston-32 Left will end up at about 175 pounds all put together. Most people leave the staircase in one piece when they disassemble the deck. The 4-step staircase weighs about 30 pounds. The heaviest single part of the deck is one piece of the decking which weighs about 15 pounds. The heaviest piece of the steel frame weighs a little less than 9 pounds.

How much does it cost to ship a Sunrise Deck?

We ship by UPS regular ground service .  The shipping cost varies depending on location but we currently charge 10% of the deck price to ship anywhere in the lower 48 US States.  We are located about 30 minutes east of Dallas, Texas and are glad to have customers come pick up their deck.

How long does it take to get my deck once I place an order?

We build our decks to order. Currently we have a high backlog due to demand and the lead time is currently 16 weeks. This will change depending order backlog.

Where can I see a Sunrise Deck in person?

We are a small company and do not have retail locations so the best place to see a Sunrise Deck is in an RV park. We are glad to check our records to see if there is a customer near you who wouldn’t mind showing you their deck. We will contact that customer first and ask their permission. Most of our customers are glad to show off their decks!

Do you ship to Canada?

Yes, we can arrange to ship to Canada via FedEx ground service. Shipping time is between 7 and 10 days from the time we ship to receipt. The customer will be billed for any duties or applicable taxes.

Can I return the deck if I don’t like it?

Yes, we don’t want anyone to be stuck with a deck they don’t like. We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. All we ask is that you ship the deck back to us in the original packaging. You don’t have to worry about scratches, we’ll have to refresh the powder coating so the deck will be ready for another customer. Thankfully, (knock on wood), we’ve never had one come back yet!

Will the deck block me from getting into my storage compartment?

That’s a good question and depends on which deck you buy and the design of your RV. We will go over dimensions thoroughly with you prior to taking an order to be sure you understand if there might be an issue. The Kingston Series deck size works with nearly all 5th wheel models without blocking the “garage” compartments. The Class A motorhomes are sometimes more challenging and we may have to modify the deck size or step orientation to make sure there’s clearance.

how to build a portable deck for rv

How to Build a Portable Deck for RV – A Super Easy Guide!

When simply the awning does not cut it, you need to build decks for RV trailers . Building a permanent deck structure is not a viable solution for people living in a motorhome . As they are constantly traveling, they need a portable RV deck  that can be packed with other things when necessary. But, how to build a portable deck for RV ? Does it need professional service or you can do it with a little carpentry skill?

Portable Decks for RVs – Why Do You Need It?

When you are living in a travel trailer, a mobile decking is not just something for convenience or aesthetic, it is a practical necessity.

Most RVers are happy with an awning and a seating arrangement under it. But, what will you do in the rainy season when the ground is wet or the grass is muddy? Thinking of living in Charleston in South Carolina. Plenty of areas in that region gets water-trapped after a good amount of rain.

Also, you will need a deck if there are large trees with roots coming out of the surface on the campsites. It is inconvenient to sit or walk under the awning if the surface is uneven.

In the next section, we will discuss how to build a portable deck for RV so that you don’t have to face these problems when camping.

How to Build a Portable Deck for RV

Some people just lay out a mat on the ground to spend outdoor time and consider it good enough. But, if you are not one of them, you need to learn to build portable decks for RVs .

Low-profile decks are the best option for the convenience of transportation. Some RVers like to elevate it a couple of feet from the grounds. It depends on personal preferences. Follow these steps to learn how to build a portable deck for RV :

1. Join boards.

You can either purchase 2 x 4 boards (4-foot long) or cut them in that size with a circular saw. What kind of boards will be the right option? As you are building a portable decking for RV , plywood panels for the decking and PVC pipes and panels for the posts and sides (if you decide to add these features) could be the most practical choices. As these are lighter than woods, hauling them inside the motorhome will be easier.

If you really want to use wood, use wooden pallets instead. They are inexpensive and you can bolt and nail them easily. Cover the surface with plywood or carpet, or just paint the pallets with a nice color.

If you decide to go with the 2 by 4 boards, form an ‘L’ by joining two boards together at their narrow edges. Use a drill machine to drive galvanized through the edge of one board to the other. Put two screws at the two ends to make the joining stronger.

2. Form square blocks.

Join two ‘L’ shapes together to form a square block. Now, take a 4 x 4 PVC board and glue or screw it to one side of the block. Make as many blocks as you need.

3. Assemble the deck.

The last part is to put the blocks side by side across the length of your deck area. As they are separate blocks placed together, you need to find a way to make them stick with each other. Gluing can be an option, but it does not go well with the concept of a transportable deck. Joining the blocks together means you make the entire deck a single piece. An RV does not have that much of room to store an entire deck.

What can you do?

Well, there is a simple solution. Purchase a rubber mat or a carpet similar size or slightly bigger than the deck. After assembling the blocks together, lay the mat or carpet over them. Use tack pins or galvanizing screws (which may seem suitable) to attach them together. When you are moving, you just need to take out the screws, roll the carpet or mat, and store it with the square boxes.

Some Tips for How to Build a Portable Deck for RV

You should have proper portable RV deck plans  to execute the DIY task. Especially, do have a clear idea about the measurements. Fix the dimensions of the deck and then calculate how many and which size of boards you need.

Some other tips that you can exploit are:

  • Always use safety gloves and goggles when you are cutting the boards or using the drill machine.
  • You can get free wood pellets if you just ask around a bit. Go to the local shops, facilities, or pallet recycling center.
  • When assembling the square blocks, place them in alternating patterns if you want to create a parquet style.

File this under the category of good problems to have. You have a camper. You have some dreamy camper decor ideas. But you don’t want to spend hours of your time to DIY and Pinterest everything. We all want that swoon-worthy, modern RV, right? The one that makes your original RV interior unrecognizable – like the picture above. Me too.

But truth be told, we have a long list of how we want to spend our time, and lengthy hours of RV renovation isn’t exactly at the top. That said, maybe you want to add some personality. Just with the least amount of effort. You know, the things that take basically no time, but make an impact.

By the way, we can’t take credit for all these ideas. Some were born out of our own scrappiness. But others come from our fellow RVers that have some super great ideas. Camper decor ideas too efficient not to pass along.

1. Peel and Stick Backsplash

24. seasonal decor.

  • 25. Front Door Makeover

  • 27. Fancy Command Hooks

28. Shiplap Wallpaper

  • 29. Organized Shelves

30. A Pretty Little Rug

Peel and stick tile can transform a shower or kitchen in a snap. The Southern Glamper used it and whoa, does it make a difference. The before/after pictures prove how backsplash can make small RV spaces light, bright, and airy. Couldn’t agree more. Peel and stick tiles are affordable, super quick to install, and make a big impact. One of the simplest upgrades you can make to your camper.

They take 2 seconds to hang and totally give off farmhouse vibes. Ground breaking, right? One of the best ways to maximize space in a tiny home is by making the most of your walls. We purchased several of these toy storage baskets and use them everywhere. Yes, they are toy storage baskets. And yes, if you have kids, they will do just that: store toys. But they also work great in the kitchen for fruit and veggie storage. Electronics storage. Keeping clutter at bay. The options are kind of endless here.

3. No Sew Cushion Covers

One of the biggest eyesores for your camper – likely the cushions. They always come in that standard RV brown. You can add so much personality by switching out the cushion fabric. Except, doing that is typically 1) time consuming or 2) expensive. Luckily, Married to a Mowery found a clever no sew option that you can do in minutes. Three simple items – choose your own fabric.

4. Mix and Match Colors and Patterns – But Keep Them Complementary

Adding splashes of color and dropping in some textures can make for dramatic effect. But the key is to make sure everything complements one another. The Tidbits website shows that simple color and design selections can make all the difference. Their triple bunks pack a lot of personality punch, but in a tasteful modern way. When purchasing your accessories, look for fun colors and patterns that match the rest of your decor.

5. Add Some Letters

Another great way to show personality: with your words. The Happy Glamper has an awesome tutorial to make a DIY Letter Ledge. It’s gorgeous, modern, and unique. If you want the fast approach, you can buy pre-made ledges and letters (or the ever classic letterboard). Change out the phrases every so often and boom – instant refresh.

6. Make Coffee Part of Your Decor

Coffeepots that aren’t bulky AF. One of the camper decor ideas we applied to our own setup. We got the Chemex pour over coffeemaker . It’s dual purpose – it makes coffee (the obvious), but it also looks super elegant on your countertop. It’s also still functional if you’re camping with no electric hookups. Just don’t forget to stow it before you drive off.

It’s amazing what a simple throw pillow will do. Figure out what aesthetic you’re going for and then get some throw pillows to match. @heads.east.tails.west is the perfect example of how adding some color pops and textures with your pillows can make a huge difference. Can’t get enough of the mix of patterns, textures, and colors that all seem to go perfectly together.

Save space by repurposing your wall for knife storage. @the.wild.fortenberrys has some enviable RV inspo, including the modern magnetic knife holder. Clever hack – they even use theirs to store tools while in use. But more importantly, magnetic knife holders are known to be a more hygienic way to store knives than the knife blocks, which can get wet and harbor bacteria.

Mirrors can always make a place look fancier and they make small spaces look bigger (a major plus when you’re living in a tiny home). This bedroom mirror from @prvbsthirtyonegirl has major gold vibes that blends well with the other fixtures. Plus, it utilizes space that otherwise may go to waste. If you want to spiffy a place up, add a mirror. One of the easiest RV decor ideas you can incorporate into your space. But packs a punch.

Our own invention that was largely born out of the need for a cutting board (without wanting to give up space for a cutting board). We built a wooden stove cover that doubles not only as a cutting board, but extra counter space. Why waste precious space when you can capitalize on it while your stove isn’t in use. It also can add to the visual appeal. Easy to make, but you can also buy one .

Plants can freshen up just about any space. This is a quick win if you’re low on time. Buy a plant or two and it will immediately add some warmth to your tiny home. @theflippintilbys is a family of 7 living out of an RV and they crushed the decorating game. They used a snake plant to liven up their space. We’re suckers for snake plants.

One trend that can transform an area in a hurry is a chalkboard. Flaunt your personality while showing off those rustic vibes (fitting for a camper, right?). @ourlifeonlaketime used chalkboard paint for their fridge and we’re now convinced everyone should be chalkboard painting their fridges.

I think we can all agree those terrible lights that come standard in most RVs are…less than desirable. It may take more than a few minutes to completely change those out. But if you don’t want to invest the time, get string lights or fairy lights instead. Take @purposeblog for example – their lighting game is on point and they show how string lights can be added to kick your space up a notch.

Saw this little corner coffee area from @wearethehawleys and couldn’t be more in love. Their tip is to update your camper’s hardware for a fast and easy camper decor idea. It will revitalize the room, making your little home modern and chic – without too much effort.

Whether you choose to post all of your adventures on social media or not, naming your camper is a rite of passage for your new home. We got some basic letter stickers and displayed our RV’s name in all her glory. It’s a fun personal touch and a chance to get creative. And if you do post your adventures, hit us up @familyonstandby so we can be friends. And so we can sneak a peak at all of your camper decor ideas.

One of the biggest focal points in your camper just so happens to be one of the easiest things to change: the windows! Or rather, the window treatments. You were probably supplied with a perfectly plain shade, which means…there’s a lot of room for improvement. We’re partial to this window treatment from @phillyjawnsgooutdoors because 1) they have the same camper as us and 2) we can’t get over how awesome it looks. But also because, their window shades totally match the aztec vibe and it all works together.

If you just can’t stand those plain RV lights that come standard, but you don’t have the time to switch out all the bulbs and hardware, chandelier to the rescue. We came across this DIY yarn chandelier from @rv.family.reno . It disguises the original lighting and adds a little glamour to your setup. But if you’re not totally keen on DIYing your own chandelier, you can always buy a similar one on Etsy – making this one of the faster camper decor ideas.

Lighten up those walls with some cheery wallpaper. We love the adventure themed wallpaper @5th_wheel_fam chose for their bunk area. It’s fun and colorful. If hanging wallpaper the old fashioned way doesn’t sound super appealing, I feel you and you’re in luck. Peel and stick wallpaper. Cut, peel, stick. Done!

19. Curtains For More Than Just Windows

Whether you have a separate bedroom, or you want to create your own makeshift bedroom (like us), curtains can be a great room divider and alternative to regular ol’ doors. These pink curtains/room dividers from @leeannieblivin are not only functional, they add to the style. We used the same concept to create a master bedroom area in our one room camper, but now I’m thinking maybe pink curtains are the way to go.

20. Use Decorative Towels

Who knew something as simple as bath towels could make a strong design statement? @wearedanandsam use Turkish towels in their bathroom and we’re in love. They totally complement the vibe. And if you’re not ready to part ways with your fluffy bath towels, you can always squirrel them away somewhere for non display purposes.

You can put art there? Behind the bathroom faucet. Apparently, @rvfixerupper does and other people who know how to energize a room. If you want to liven up your space with art, try placing it in some unconventional spots. It’s a great use of space and it will give your room new life. Plus, it’s easy to switch different art in and out whenever you need a change.

22. Blankets Are Decor Too

If you need an excuse to buy just one more blanket, this is it. The simple act of throwing a blanket on your couch or bed can transform the room. We love how @twinning_in_our_5thwheel uses blankets to accessorize. They are perfectly matched to the color scheme and add texture to the space. A big fan here.

If you have kids, good luck getting this one to stick. But it’s worth a shot. @the_ramblr_rv uses a patterned tablecloth and pair of placemats to kick their table decor up a notch. I almost want to set the table for once.

The most festive of our camper decor ideas – bring on the holiday cheer. Whatever the holiday, your little home on wheels is the perfect canvas. @allisongoesplaces knocked it out of the park with their winter wonderland. This doesn’t even look like an RV, it’s so good. *Instantly falls in love with that fireplace*

25. Give Your Front Door a Facelift

Why stop at the interior if you can create some serious curb appeal right outside the front door? The most obvious design choices here involve a welcome mat and some kind of wreath. But @slo.gathered.home took it a step further by adding a hanging planter on their awning. Genius! Also, we just recently discovered Etsy designers have some of the coolest plants . So that’s another thing we’re in love with.

26. If All Else Fails, Spray Paint Your Countertops

So…just learned spray painting countertops is a thing – mind blown. Thanks to some brilliant design inspo from @flippingfarrell , you can revitalize your kitchen counter without a massive overhaul. All you need is a little stone coat spray paint – with a coat of epoxy for good measure. It looks upscale. It’s affordable. And it won’t take nearly the time investment as removing old countertops and completely replacing.

27. Use the Fancy Command Hooks

One of the things you’ll quickly discover as an RV owner – command hooks are the solution to everything. They can be used for basically any scenario and if you’re like us, you’ll be buying them in bulk. But , the key is to splurge on the decorative command hooks . Exaggerating a little bit here, because they don’t cost much more than the standard white ones. But they will look a heck of a lot better and this is one of the easiest upgrades you can make. In this example from RV Inspiration , command hooks are used to hold up curtains!

Shiplap is a trendy way to up your design game. But, heavy wood planks don’t always translate well into RV life when lighter is often better. Enter shiplap wallpaper. Not only is it super lightweight since it’s paper, it’s much quicker to hang. @barefootdetour used it in their camper remodel (behind the fun copper cups) and it adds texture to the space – without actually adding texture…if that makes sense.

29. Shelving to Keep Clutter Off Tables and Counters

Guilty confession…if we don’t have a spot for everything, it will find a home on our kitchen table. We can’t be the only ones with a kitchen table that doubles as a mailbox, right? Our solution, make sure everything has a spot so it can’t pile up all over. Called to Wander uses simple ikea shelves over the sink for their soaps, which keeps them off the countertops. Any chance you get to put up some shelving, do it! It can add to the decor while keeping clutter at bay.

Rugs can make a space. They add color, texture, pattern, and are never a bad idea. Finding the perfect rug can be difficult for a camper, especially a small camper when space is at a minimum. But when you find it, that rug will complete your look. @ourvanquest uses a rug in front of their sink and it’s perfectly sized for the space. A stylish addition to your design that’s as easy as shopping on Amazon.

If you’re anything like us, the idea of remodeling an RV is just plain overwhelming. Never ending projects. You’re already busy. Maybe kids are running around and it’s impossible to get anything done. You are most certainly not alone. We’re right there with you and that’s why we looked for only the camper decor ideas that can be done in short order. Like an hour or less. We felt all these ideas fit the bill while making an impact. But we want to hear from you.

Airstreams have been a favorite home-on-the-road for vacationers for almost a century. Back in 1929, Wally Byam built the first Airstream trailer – a teardrop-shaped canvas and Masonite shelter attached to a Ford Model T chassis – mainly for his wife Marion, who was fed up camping in drafty tents.
