Canva has many competitors, but in the world of AI, can this tool be Canva’s arch-nemesis? Let's compare them and find out.

Stockimg.ai is a browser-based AI design tool. It’s similar to Canva in the things you can create, such as social posts, logos, or background imagery. Additionally, it offers a slightly different selection of design outputs to Canva, like book covers and web interfaces.

Stockimg.ai is a freemium tool. To access the AI tools, you’ll need to pay for the Starter or Premium plans. The first three days are free before the payment sets in, which is reasonably priced.

As an AI-based tool, the majority of anything you can create is done using various AI features. However, like Canva, there are text, template, and element tools, along with brush and background tools, and the ability to upload your own images to use in your design.

Non-AI-based tools like Canva or Adobe software still offer great AI features, so when a tool like Stockimg.ai labels itself as an AI design tool, you can expect exciting possibilities when signing up. Here are the AI features available:

1. AI Image Generators

AI image generation is considered the bare minimum an AI design tool should offer. Technically speaking, most of the AI features in this tool are image generators of sorts. However, the types of image outputs vary enough to be categorized separately. All AI image generators on Stockimg.ai use a text-to-image prompt box.

Image generators offered on Stockimg.ai include:

• Book cover generator
• Photorealistic stock imagery
• Art in over 25 different style choices
• Illustration in six different styles
• Wallpapers and posters
• Illusion creator

Unfortunately, any text in your prompts will be generated with the tell-tale AI gibberish text. There's no text editing tool, but it's something you can fix in Canva using its AI tools .

2. AI Logo Generator

Using AI to create a logo is a sought-after method. While Canva offers logo templates, they’re not made using AI. Stockimg.ai’s AI logo generator creates some great logo results; however, they are flattened PNGs and non-editable past regenerating a new logo.

PNGs are great for transparency, but not very versatile for the use of most logos. So when creating a logo, you should always export in a vector format for scalability.

Stockimg.ai’s generated logo results are fun and look good. If you only need a logo for a small project or to use as a social media icon, for example, then its AI logo generator is good to try. 3. AI Upscaling

This feature of Stockimg.ai is only available to Premium subscribers. While you can scale an image down with ease, it’s much harder to scale up while retaining quality. Upscaling using AI, however, can turn your pixelated images into large, high-quality images in seconds. This tool is helpful for any images you create or have, providing more usability for your images.

4. AI Background Removal

AI background removal is great when you’ve created logos or want to cut out a subject from the background for various usages. Usually, a background removal tool is a paid-for feature in most software, and that’s the case for both Stockimg.ai and Canva.

Stockimg.ai removes the background quickly, and, once complete, it provides a duplicate version of your image with the background removed. This is helpful as sometimes you still require the original.

5. ChatGPT App

Stockimg.ai’s free ChatGPT4 app is provided via Whatsapp rather than the browser, like everything else. The app is called ChatChit AI, and although it’s a cool extra to have, it seems quite removed from the rest of Stockimg’s software.

ChatChit AI offers image generation, sticker generation, audio transcribing, image detection, file conversion, and a story maker. You can also use ChatChit AI via audio messages as well as standard text messages.

6. Web UI Layout Generator

Do you want to design a website layout but don’t have the skills? You can easily use Stockimg.ai’s web UI layout AI generator to create a basic layout.

Although you’ll receive AI-generated web layouts in seconds, you’ll still need other design tools like Figma or a web developer to turn your new design into a working website. This generator creates a visual you can use as a guide for inspiration. You can create a one-page website with Canva , but there are some pros and cons, such as the lack of AI.

7. Quirky QR Design Generator

QR codes are somewhat common in the smartphone era. Black and white maze-like codes are boring to see, though.

Using Stockimg.ai’s QR code design generator, you can create funky or branded designs to go along with your fully working QR code. This is a fun way to make a boring QR link look inviting and stand out against your competitors. Remember to test if your QR code works before you add it to any projects.

All tools and features found within Stockimg.ai are native tools, meaning Stockimg.ai provides and develops them. With native AI tools, users can rest assured that their favorite tools will always be available with subtle improvements in the future.

While Canva does have some native AI tools, many of its AI—and other—tools are third-party apps built into Canva . Third-party apps are owned by other companies and may be removed from or added to Canva at any point. Canva apps change frequently, which means you may have to change your workflow as you can’t always rely on specific third-party apps.

Stockimg.ai’s subscriptions are affordable. From the Starter kit onwards, subscribers receive unlimited AI image credits and projects. Unlike Canva, its free plan is pretty useless since it doesn’t offer any AI credits; but you can still use non-AI templates, text, brush, and background tools.

All plans offer a three-day free trial. The Starter plan begins from $9.50 per month with the Premium plan starting from $14.50 per month at the time of writing. The Premium plan includes commercial use for physical and digital products, extra AI tools like upscaling and background removal, and unlimited access to all features. Stockimg's Premium cost is comparable to Canva’s premium AI features.

Many of Stockimg’s AI results are much better than Canva’s, however, Canva does have better editing tools to fix those generic AI-made mistakes. Stockimg’s web UI generator and book cover generator are unique tools not found in Canva.

Canva has a more flexible subscription plan. Its free plan allows for lots of design, saving options, graphics, and even some of its AI features. Canva’s free trial is longer too, allowing you to get much more use from it than Stockimg’s three-day offering.

When creating designs in Canva, for most uses, you can edit elements, change parts of the layout, duplicate for multiple uses, and save in many formats and quality options. Stockimg has less versatility in its generated images and saving options.

Even though Stockimg’s AI generators can create infinite results, sometimes you just want to browse through a library to select pre-made elements—Canva is great for that. Canva's pull is that it's a design tool with some AI features, rather than an AI tool with some design features, like Stockimg.ai.

I wouldn’t consider Stockimg.ai a direct competitor of Canva. Although its categories of use are similar—social media posts, posters, illustrations, logos—the ability to personally design and craft your designs is lost in Stockimg.

Stockimg is a great AI generator with multiple uses. It can be used as a personal library of various elements. You can save your generated results and upload them to Canva, wherein you can utilize its extensive tools to create great designs. Overall, I'd say Canva still runs ahead with its huge library of elements, boasting toolbox, and many great AI features.
