What people love about Europe Tours for Young Adults

Ashleigh was absolutely amazing as a tour guide, very knowledgeable, fun and overall great personality
The itinerary was good as we saw so many countries in Europe but would have loved to see some more beach’s overall in the trip. The guide was amazing made the trip really enjoyable and informative.
My sister and I did the Mama Mia Tour throughout Italy May 27-June 8. Each one of our tour guides was amazing, we had Carlo and Max in Rome, Giovanni in Sorrento, and Nedas in Florence and Venice. All of them were so fun to tour with, always happy to take our picture and since the groups were smaller we could be a bit more customizable with our experience and what we wanted to see during walking tours of the city! The guides were probably one of my favorite parts of the trip because after spending so much time with them they began to feel like more of a friend than a tour guide which was awesome! I really enjoyed the welcome dinners as well to help break the ice with fellow travelers and get to know the guides better. They all were very funny and knowledgeable of the location we were at and happy to provide food/activity recommendations for our free time. The only critique I would give the company is we were often not meeting our guides at the accommodation, we were asked to meet them somewhere in the city whether that was a train station or a specific street in the city. Being in a city I had never been to before this was a little difficult at first, especially when the meeting point was far away. I wish they would put us in direct contact with who we are meeting so we can message them if we are lost or running late, and who we should be looking for. With that being said, we had a couple times where we arrived at the meeting point and nobody came or came much later once I called the company a few times, which I think could have been resolved if we were just given the contact of who we were meeting from the beginning or making a WhatsApp group chat of some sort for the group to send updates and communicate better. But after one incident of a meeting point mix up the company was very accommodating in helping us the rest of the trip and adding a gondola ride in Venice for us to make up for a hiccup in Rome. Overall I would recommend this trip to other fellow travelers! You see such amazing things with amazing tour guides and I would do it again and again!

Travel tips for our Europe tours

There are plenty of options when it comes to exploring the continent. Some of the most popular destinations to visit on a tour of Europe include Italy, Greece, Spain, and Ireland.

On our travel packages to Europe, you can choose to explore a particular location in depth, such as on a week-long Paris City Stay or a two-week Grand Tour of Italy .

If you're looking for a multi-country trip, you can join our Grand Tour of Europe: London to Rome , for a taste of several destinations. Our team of regional experts is available to help you find the adventure that aligns with your interests.

Discover six things to experience your first time traveling to Europe →

Europe is a year-round destination with varying climates across its many countries and regions. The best time to visit Europe depends on what type of experience you’d like to have and which destinations you’ll be visiting.

  • Summer. A popular time to travel to Europe is summer because warm, sunny days lend themselves to exploring the outdoors. In July, the average high temperature in London, England, is in the 70s Fahrenheit—while in Rome, Italy, the average high is in the 80s.
  • Spring and Fall. Some travelers prefer to travel on our Europe tour packages during the spring and fall because temperatures are more comfortable and popular sites are less crowded.
  • Winter. A wonderful time to take a European tour is the winter. During this time of year, travelers can stroll through festive holiday markets, visit excellent museums, and settle in for tasty meals of seasonal specialties. To take the stress out of planning a winter trip, we even offer Europe trip packages specifically designed for visiting  Christmas markets .

One of the main benefits of joining our guided tours of Europe is having the opportunity to visit must-see sites with an expert leading the way. When you go guided with Go Ahead we’ll help you skip the long lines at popular landmarks. Here are some attractions you’ll get the opportunity to see on our group tours of Europe:

  • The Colosseum in Rome, Italy
  • The National Archaeological Museum in Naples, Italy
  • St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, Italy
  • The Alhambra in Granada, Spain
  • The Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain
  • La Sagrada Família church in Barcelona, Spain
  • The Acropolis in Athens, Greece
  • The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands
  • St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland
  • The Titanic Museum in Belfast, Northern Ireland
  • The Hungarian Parliament building in Budapest, Hungary
  • Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria
  • The Viking Ship Museum in Oslo, Norway
  • Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen, Denmark

We recommend you spend at least six days in Europe. While our most popular Europe tours run from 10–14 days, you can enjoy a shorter trip if you limit your tour to one country or visit a handful of cities in neighboring countries.

With its rich history, vibrant culture, and fantastic food, Italy is a popular destination for your first European trip. But plenty of other countries are worth visiting depending on your interests and concerns about international travel. For example, if the language barrier makes you nervous, Ireland, Scotland, or England make great first-time trips for visiting Europe.

Learn about the best international trips for first-time travelers  →

Yes! On our Europe tours, you’ll get the chance to explore multiple countries. Europe’s compact size and efficient transportation network make it easier—and more enticing—to take in numerous countries on one trip.

Some of our popular multi-country trips to Europe are Italy & Greece ; England & France ; Portugal & Spain ; Scotland & Ireland ; Germany, Switzerland & Austria ; and Norway, Sweden, Finland & Denmark .

Experiencing Europe—for the first time or your 10th time—should be all about taking in the culture, the food, the history, and the sheer joy of new discoveries. Every Go Ahead tour includes an expert Tour Director and talented local guides to lead the way, so you can sit back, relax, and soak in the beauty, history, and culture of Europe. Yes! The holidays are an exciting time to travel on our Europe trips because they offer an exceptional opportunity to visit Europe’s Christmas Markets  and to experience countries’ unique holiday traditions. The holidays are a magical time in many European countries, allowing you to soak in the seasonal ambiance, enjoy festive food, and pick up unique gifts.

Thankfully, that’s a tough question to answer, as so many European countries offer delicious food. Ultimately, it’s a matter of personal preference, so you’re sure to find something you love no matter which country you visit. One strong contender for the top spot, however, is Italy.

Best known for its pasta, pizza, cheeses, and gelato, Italy is a foodie’s delight. That’s because the purest expression of Italian cooking relies on farm-fresh ingredients, and the cuisine changes from region to region. Fresh, delicious, and unlike anything you’ve tried outside the country, Italian food never disappoints the palate.

Wondering what to eat in Italy? Check out these regional dishes →

Another foodie's favorite destination in Europe is France. From its boeuf bourguignon to its pain au chocolat, France is known for its world-class culinary scene and timeless favorite dishes. While you’re guaranteed to taste delicious dishes no matter where you travel to France , the type of French food you’ll find depends on the region and season. The north of France features heavier dishes; the south features fresh fish, lean meat, and grilled vegetables.

While individual countries take pride in their languages, English is widely spoken in Europe.

We recommend packing light for your trip to Europe. One suitcase and one carry-on per person is a good guideline to follow; you should feel comfortable managing your baggage at the airport. After you’ve reserved one of our Europe tour packages, we’ll give you information about how to prepare for your particular trip and even share a packing list in our mobile app.

  • Sun protection. For all our trips, especially during the summer months in Europe, we recommend bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect your face and the back of your neck from the sun.
  • Layers. For tours of Europe, we recommend packing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that can be easily layered to accommodate varying temperatures, as well as a light jacket or rainwear.
  • Comfortable walking shoes. Because you’ll be exploring new destinations with local guides while on your trip, a comfortable pair of walking shoes is essential. Whether hitting the landmarks of London or on a walking tour of Amsterdam, you’ll be glad you brought your most comfortable footwear.
  • Dressier attire. You may want to pack dressier attire if you plan to visit a high-end restaurant or attend a special performance on any of our Europe trips.
  • Full-coverage layers for religious sites. In Europe, it is preferable not to visit churches, temples, or other religious sites with bare legs or shoulders, and entrance may be denied on this basis.
  • Other must-bring items. A camera to take photos during your journey, and a notebook for jotting down notes or recommendations your Tour Director shares.

Europe’s best tours for active young adults

While do-it-yourself backpacking trips to Europe are still popular among young people, a significant number of college students and travelers in their 20s and early 30s opt to book guided youth tours. The perks of youth escorted tours are the same as other escorted tours. However, to attract cost conscious students and other young people, most youth tour companies make use of budget accommodations like campgrounds or hotels located outside city centers.

These youth-oriented trips are infused with a great sense of fun and camaraderie, and they are designed with the budget traveler in mind. Guided sightseeing excursions are balanced with ample free time to explore. Solo travelers are welcomed with singles share programs that match roommates of the same gender. Participants often come away from these tours with new friendships and future travel companions.

There are two tour operators catering to younger travelers: Contiki offers tours solely to people age 18-35, and Trafalgar reserves certain departures for travelers age 21-38.

Looking to explore the timeless landscapes of Europe? Want to explore the national parks of the U.S.? Or the exotic treasures of Asia and beyond? We offer an incredible array of active vacations worldwide. Discover your dream trip – The world’s most intriguing countries await you with many different itineraries to fit your travel needs.  Our world is full of incredible destinations, each with hundreds of different sights, sounds, tastes and smells which help form your own vacation experience.

You’ll be stunned by the pyramids in Egypt, breathless after climbing the Eiffel Tower in France and exhilarated after bungee jumping in Australia.

Tour inclusions vary, but most include all accommodations, most breakfasts and  some dinners, transportation during the trip, the services of experienced guides, and many attraction admissions, guided tours, and other excursions. Travelers have the option to select lower-priced tours with accommodations in campgrounds and other budget lodgings or pay more for tours that include stays in higher-end accommodations.

Raves and Reviews

Sam and I had a great time on our honeymoon and it was everything we dreamed of. I would highly recommend Sandals and the zip line excursion was AMAZING.

Adam & Samantha

That trip was the best trip that could be in the history of the world. Fiji is beyond beautiful and the people are unforgettable.

Europe trip destinations for young adults

If you’re a young adult looking for an adventure, Europe is your perfect destination. Europe has a rich history, beautiful architecture, and diverse cultures. It’s also very easy to travel around Europe with its well-connected transportation systems.

Europe comprises 44 countries, each with its unique culture, food, language, and architecture. From Prague’s stunning Gothic buildings to Amsterdam’s picturesque canals, there’s something for everyone in Europe.

Many European cities are also very walkable, which makes exploring them even more enjoyable. Another advantage of traveling to Europe is that it’s relatively safe compared to other regions worldwide.

Pickpocketing can be a problem in some touristy areas. Still, if you take necessary precautions, such as keeping your valuables close to you and being aware of your surroundings, you should be fine. In addition to exploring famous landmarks and museums, you can have many other unique experiences while in Europe.

You can attend music festivals in Barcelona or watch street performers on the Charles Bridge in Prague. You can also try regional foods such as paella in Valencia or schnitzel in Vienna.

Europe is an ideal destination for young adults seeking adventure and cultural immersion. With so many countries and cities to choose from, there’s always somewhere new to discover and experience.

Importance of traveling for young adults

For many young adults, traveling is a crucial rite of passage and a chance to explore new cultures, meet new people, and learn about themselves. It’s an opportunity to leave their comfort zones and experience the world beyond their backyards. Here are some reasons why traveling is important for young adults.

Firstly, traveling enhances personal growth and development. It provides a chance to see things from a different perspective and learn about new cultures, languages, foods, customs, and ways of life.

Exposure to diverse backgrounds can broaden one’s worldview by challenging preconceived notions and stereotypes. Secondly, traveling can improve social skills by providing opportunities for young adults to meet people worldwide.

Whether it’s fellow travelers or locals in the destinations they visit, interacting with new people not only helps individuals develop communication skills but also increases empathy towards others. Traveling can improve mental health by escaping daily stressors like work or school.

As individuals explore new cities or landscapes they may have never seen before; it opens up doors for adventure while reducing stress levels that come with daily routine activities. From seeing breathtaking views in Santorini or swimming in crystal clear waters in Turkey, every travel destination offers something unique to uplift one’s mood.

Traveling offers many benefits for young adults beyond just seeing new places or taking pictures for social media posts. It’s an opportunity for personal growth through exposure to different cultures while improving social skills by meeting diverse groups of people from around the globe leading to improved mental well-being that every individual deserves.

Factors to consider when choosing destinations (budget, interests, safety, etc.)

When it comes to planning a trip to Europe , there are several factors that young adults should consider before choosing a destination. Budget, interests, and safety are key factors that can make or break your experience abroad.

Budget is one of the most important considerations when planning a European trip. Young adults on a tight budget may want to consider more affordable destinations like Budapest or Ljubljana.

These cities offer plenty of attractions and activities at a fraction of the cost of some popular tourist destinations like Paris or London. When budgeting for your trip, consider the cost of transportation, accommodations, food and drink, and any sightseeing activities you plan.

Another important factor to consider is your interests. Are you interested in art and history?

Then Florence or Rome might be ideal destinations for you. If you’re into nightlife and partying, Amsterdam or Berlin could be more your style.

And if outdoor adventure is what you’re after, consider visiting places like Santorini or Stockholm , where there are plenty of opportunities for hiking and exploring. Safety should always be a top priority when traveling abroad.

While most European countries are considered safe for tourists, it’s still important to research beforehand. Make sure you know which areas are safe to visit at night and how to stay safe while using public transportation.

It’s always wise to keep an eye on your belongings while out in public areas, as pickpocketing can, unfortunately, be common in certain cities. Considering these key factors when choosing a destination for your European adventure as a young adult can help ensure you have an unforgettable experience abroad without breaking the bank or compromising safety!

Florence, Italy, is a must-visit destination for any young adult traveling to Europe . The city is famous for being the birthplace of the Renaissance and boasts some of the world’s most impressive art and architecture. Whether you’re an art history buff or just looking to soak up some Italian culture, Florence has something for everyone.

One of the top attractions in Florence is the Uffizi Gallery. This museum houses an extensive collection of Renaissance art, including works by Botticelli, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci.

The galleries can get quite crowded during peak tourist season, so booking your tickets online in advance is best. If you need more time or are interested in waiting in line, consider taking a guided tour of the Uffizi to ensure you see all its highlights.

Another must-see attraction in Florence is the Duomo di Firenze (Florence Cathedral). This massive Gothic cathedral features stunning architecture and intricate details that will leave you breathless.

Hold up! Have you thought about the importance of travel insurance?

Remember this:  anything can happen. Travel is fun, but your health is more important; thus, I always, always, always recommend getting insured during the duration of your trip. I have benefitted from having one multiple times, and it has been covered for thousands of euros!

The latest one is not necessarily “health” related – it was during the peak of the unspeakable terrible C that consumed the world. I was living in Vietnam when I received an email from SafetyWing (my travel insurance) that if I want they’ll fly be back home to Finland as the world goes through a global emergency alert. I flew back fully covered, and dealing with  SafetyWing  was a breeze despite the roar of people in contact with them trying to get back home.

I can’t highly recommend them enough. Otherwise, I rarely get sick; hence I don’t always need to head to a hospital, but knowing that I have travel insurance makes me feel safe at the very least.

Read my post about  why you should get travel insurance  for more information. Otherwise, you can get a free quote from  SafetyWing  – they’re the best, in my opinion.

Another must-see attraction in Paris is the Louvre Museum. Home to over 35,000 works of art, including Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa,” the museum is one of the largest in the world.

From croissants and coffee in cute cafes to Michelin-starred restaurants offering exquisite cuisine, there’s something for every taste and budget. Be sure to try some traditional French dishes like escargots (snails), foie gras (goose liver pate), or coq au vin (chicken cooked in red wine) while you’re there.

Travel Tips for Young Adults

Transportation options (budget airlines, trains, buses, etc.).

There are many transportation options when traveling around Europe as a young adult. Depending on your budget and travel preferences, you might want to consider taking advantage of the following affordable means of transportation:

Firstly, budget airlines such as Ryanair and EasyJet are excellent options for those who want to fly between European countries quickly and cheaply. With fares starting at just a few euros one way, it takes time to beat these airlines’ value.

However, it’s important to remember that budget airlines often charge extra baggage and seat selection fees. Additionally, be prepared for long lines at the airport and strict baggage weight restrictions.

Secondly, trains are another popular option among young travelers. The Eurail Pass is a great way to see multiple countries on one trip while enjoying an extensive European rail network.

With various types of passes available, from 3 days up to 3 months, you can customize your itinerary according to your needs. Moreover, train travel provides scenic views and is often more comfortable than flying.

Taking buses is another budget-friendly option when traveling around Europe as a young adult. Companies like Flixbus offer routes throughout many countries with prices starting at just a couple of euros per journey.

While buses may take longer than planes or trains, they can be more flexible with their schedules and sometimes have more direct routes between cities. No matter which mode of transportation you choose when exploring Europe as a young adult traveler, plenty of affordable options will help stretch your budget further without compromising on the quality of your travels!

Accommodation options (hostels, Airbnb, budget hotels, etc.)

Accommodation is one of the most significant expenses on any trip, and for young adults traveling on a budget, finding affordable accommodation options is crucial. Luckily, Europe offers various accommodation options suitable for all budgets and preferences. Here are some popular choices:

Hostels:  Hostels are an excellent option for young travelers who want to save money while meeting other travelers. Most hostels offer shared dorm rooms with bunk beds or private rooms with shared bathrooms.

Some hostels also have communal spaces such as kitchens and lounges where travelers can socialize and cook meals. Hostel prices vary depending on the location, but they’re generally more affordable than hotels.

Airbnb:  Airbnb is a popular alternative to traditional hotels, allowing travelers to rent apartments or rooms from locals. Airbnb properties are often cheaper than hotels, offering more space and privacy than hostels.

Additionally, staying in an apartment allows travelers to experience local life firsthand by living in neighborhoods rather than touristy areas. Budget Hotels: Budget hotels are also an option for young adults traveling on a budget.

These hotels offer clean, basic rooms with essential amenities such as a bed, bathroom, and Wi-Fi access. While budget hotels may not be as luxurious as higher-end options, they provide a comfortable stay at an affordable price.

When it comes to choosing accommodation in Europe, young adults traveling on a budget should first identify their priorities (privacy vs. socializing) and interests (touristy vs. local areas), then consider the available options (hostels vs. apartments, rentals vs. budget hotels). Whichever alternative one chooses, always confirm the location’s safety before booking any accommodations in unfamiliar places or neighborhoods.

Saving money while traveling (food, sightseeing, transportation, etc.)

When traveling as a young adult, money can be tight, and it’s important to be smart about your spending. Here are some tips on how to save money while traveling in Europe.

First up, food. Eating out can be expensive, especially in touristy areas.

One way to save money on food is by cooking for yourself. If you’re staying in a hostel or Airbnb, look for accommodations with kitchens to make your meals.

Another option is to grab groceries from a local supermarket or street market and picnic in a park or other scenic spot. Not only will this save you money, but it’s also a great way to enjoy the local culture and scenery.

Next up is sightseeing. Europe is full of amazing sights and attractions with an entry fee.

However, there are ways around these fees if you research beforehand. Many museums offer free entry on certain days or during specific hours.

Some cities also offer free walking tours led by locals who share their knowledge and insights about the city’s history and culture. Additionally, many churches are open to the public for free and are often filled with beautiful artwork and architecture.

Transportation can consume a big chunk of your budget if you must be more careful. While taxis may seem convenient, they’re often very expensive compared to public transportation options like buses and trains, which can easily take you around the city at an affordable cost (although buses may take longer than taxis as they do multiple stops).

If you plan and book tickets online in advance for trains or budget airlines between cities (or countries), you could save significantly more than purchasing same-day tickets from train stations/airports directly. By being strategic about food choices, sightseeing activities, and transportation methods, you can stretch your budget further while still having an incredible time exploring Europe!

Staying safe while traveling

Safety should always be a top priority when traveling to a new place.

Europe is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, but it’s important to take precautions to ensure your trip goes smoothly. Firstly, research the destination and learn about any potential safety concerns.

This could include dangerous areas of the city, scams to watch out for, or risky activities to avoid. It’s also good to check government travel advisories before you go.

While in Europe, ensure you always keep your valuables safe. This includes keeping your passport and other important documents in a secure location – consider using a money belt or hidden pocket.

Be aware of your surroundings and monitor your belongings when in public places. In addition, it’s important to stay alert and aware when out at night or in unfamiliar surroundings.

Avoid walking alone late at night and stick to well-lit areas with plenty of people. Consider taking public transportation or calling a taxi to return to your hotel after dark.

Overall, staying safe while traveling in Europe is largely about using common sense and being prepared. By taking simple precautions and staying vigilant throughout your trip, you can have a fun and safe experience exploring this exciting continent!

Meeting locals and other young travelers

One of the best parts of traveling as a young adult is the opportunity to meet people worldwide.

Whether it’s locals or other young travelers, there are plenty of ways to connect with people and make new friends during your Europe trip . Meeting locals can be a great way to learn about the culture of the places you’re visiting and get insider tips on things to do.

One of my favorite ways to connect with locals is through Couchsurfing. This website allows you to stay with local hosts for free and get a taste of living in their city.

It’s also a great way to meet other travelers since many hosts organize events or outings for their guests. If Couchsurfing isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other ways to meet locals.

Joining a language exchange group or taking a cooking class can be fun to meet people who share your interests. Another option is conversing with people while exploring–whether at a cafe, museum, or park.

Of course, meeting other young travelers is also an important part of the experience. Many hostels organize social events like pub crawls or walking tours to help guests meet each other.

You can also join online travel communities like Couchsurfing or Meetup.com, which often have groups for young backpackers traveling through Europe. Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself – chances are others are looking for new friends too!

What are my favorite travel must-haves?

As a frequent traveler, I’ve learned a lot throughout my years of travel, and there are five items that I always carry with me regardless of where I go and how long the trip is. Here are my five travel must-haves!

  • Warm packable jacket  – I always carry a light jacket, even when heading to warm countries. There hasn’t been a time I never used it, especially in airports and planes.
  • Transparent toiletry bag  – I often bring a carry-on if I’m only traveling within Europe for a few days. Life is so much easier to go through security checks with a transparent toiletry bag.
  • Kindle Paperwhite  – I love a good read and always take my Kindle everywhere. It keeps me entertained during long flights and waiting times.
  • Powerbank  – I don’t know how I could travel without one! Having a power bank saved me a ton since I carry a lot of electronic devices with me.
  • Travel Adapter  – I never leave my luggage without a travel adapter! I carry one with me all the time. It is just one of that travel-must haves that doesn’t hurt to have in your bag at all times.

Each itinerary is designed to include unique activities and authentic cultural experiences while still giving you plenty of time to explore on your own. In other words, you can do your own thing when you want but still have people to get dinner with at the end of the day. These are not travel groups of the past.

We spend countless hours curating the best international trips, from the locations to the accommodations, activities, and food. Then we put awesome travel groups together and take care of the details of the trip so you can relax, explore, and connect.

You can expect chill vibes, new friends, and unforgettable experiences. We run each trip as if we were traveling with our own friends - because, by the end of it, we are.

Not sure where you want to go first? Fill out a travel profile and one of our group curators will help you find the perfect trip!

Europe tour groups for young adults

Europe tours for young adults have become increasingly popular in recent years. These tours offer a unique opportunity for young people to explore the different traditions and cultures of Europe while having fun and making new friends. There are currently a few companies that specialize in organizing Europe group tours for young adults.

Each of these companies has its own unique proposition that distinguishes it from others. To make your decision easier, let us explore a few of the most popular ones and what they have to offer.

Contiki is one of the oldest and most popular companies that offer Europe tours for young adults. The firm is renowned for its focus on adventure and exploration. It offers a variety of tours that cater to different interests and preferences. Below are a few examples of what you can expect from Contiki:

European Discovery: This is a 12-day tour that covers 8 countries, including France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands. The average group size is around 42.

Eastern Road: This 13-day tour covers 6 countries in Eastern Europe, including Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic. It starts in Berlin and ends in Warsaw.

Greek Island Hopper: This is a 10-day tour that explores the Greek islands of Mykonos, Santorini, Paros, and Ios.

Contiki tours typically use a combination of modes of transport, including coach buses, trains, and ferries. Accommodations are normally in hostels, and the tours are fast-paced, with a lot of activities and sightseeing packed into every day. Tour groups are typically a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 50 people, and the tours are open to young adults between the ages of 18 and 35.

Topdeck is another popular tour company that specializes in Europe tours for young individuals. Like Contiki, it also offers a variety of tours that cater to different interests and preferences. Some of the tours available from Topdeck include:

Topdeck tours also use a combination of different transport options, including trains, coaches, and ferries. Accommodation is typically in hostels (and the odd smaller hotel). The pace of these tours is fast, with a significant amount of sightseeing and activities packed into a relatively short time. Tour group sizes typically vary between 20 and 40 people, and the tours are open to young adults aged between 18 and 39.

Busabout is a unique tour firm that offers hop-on, hop-off tours across Europe. That makes the company's tours very flexible - allowing travelers to stay in every different destination for as long as they want. Examples of the available tours include:

Ultimate Balkan Adventure: This 15-day tour covers the Balkans, including Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia. It starts and ends in Split and visits Kotor, Split, Meteora, Tirana, Thessaloniki, Athens, Skopje, Lake Orhid, Sarajevo, and Belgrade.

Busabout unlimited pass: This flexible pass enables travelers to board any of the company's transport options as many times as they want. That makes it possible for travelers to stay in any particular destination for as long as he or she prefers.

Like most of the other companies discussed here, Busabout uses various transport modes, including coaches, ferries, and trains. Accommodation is normally in hostels, although other options are used from time to time. Note; these tours are fast-paced. Tour group sizes are typically anywhere between 20 and 50. The minimum age is 18 and the maximum is 35.

What you need to know about European travel this summer

With headlines warning of everything from flight delays to wildfires, summer travel is changing. Here’s how to make sure your trip this summer goes smoothly.

Record numbers of tourists are expected to visit Europe this summer. In the first three months of 2024, the number of international arrivals has already risen by 7.2% compared to 2019’s pre-pandemic figures, according to the European Travel Commission , with 120 million international tourists visiting the region in that time. Yet while this is welcome news for the tourism industry, some challenges remain for visitors, especially during the summer’s busy peak season, when potential flight delays, high temperatures, new laws and major events could all impact travel. Here’s what you need to know to make sure your European trip this summer goes smoothly.

1. What you need to know about flight disruptions

Increased passenger numbers, staff shortages and strikes meant there were 106.7 million delayed air passengers in Europe during peak summer months last year. More than 700,000 passengers were affected over the August bank holiday in the UK alone following a technical meltdown at air traffic control. This year, EasyJet has had to cancel over 100 flights from Paris due to a no-fly zone during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Ryanair has also cut flights from its summer schedule after the delivery of several of its new Boeing aircraft was delayed. If you’re due to fly, visit the airport’s website for the latest information, and check social media for real-time updates from other travellers. Remember that you may be owed compensation if you face disruption, but rules vary, so take out a travel insurance policy as soon as you book flights.

( What should you do if your flight is delayed or cancelled? )

2. Why you should consider travelling by train

Keep your carbon footprint low, avoid airport hassle and see even more of Europe this summer by taking advantage of a whole host of new and expanded routes across the continent. New services include a high-speed route connecting Barcelona to Madrid and Seville , a sleeper train from Brussels to Prague , a daily train between Vilnius and Riga , a relaunched night train between Paris and Nice and a sleeper train from Rome to the Dolomites . Following the success of Germany’s €49 unlimited monthly travel pass last year, France has also introduced its own nationwide rail pass for the same price. However, this is only valid for those under 27 and excludes high-speed TGV trains and travel in the greater Paris region of Ile-de-France.

( 6 of the world’s best coastal rail journeys .)

travel groups to europe for young adults

3. What to do you if you’re affected by wildfires

Following unprecedented high temperatures, wildfires swept through some of Europe’s most popular tourist spots last summer, scorching parts of Tenerife, mainland Spain, Greece, Portugal and Italy. This year, protective measures have already been put in place that aim to prevent a repeat of the disaster, with Greece banning all outdoor fires from April and increasing investment in fire detection and water tankers. To ensure you’re protected if the worst happens, arrange travel insurance at the time of booking, then keep an eye on official travel advisories for up-to-date information. If you’re affected by wildfires or any other natural disasters when you’re away, follow the advice of the emergency services and evacuate when instructed, then contact your tour operator or airline for help getting home.

( What to do if you’re caught in a disaster while travelling. )

4. How big events could disrupt your travel

From Taylor Swift’s tour across Europe to the UEFA European Championship in Germany, Europe is limbering up for a summer of major cultural and sporting events. The Olympic Games in Paris are expected to attract three million more visitors than usual . This is likely to mean a greater demand for accommodation, higher prices, crowded public transport, unexpected road closures and even increased security checks in response to the heightened risk of terrorist attacks. If your holiday does coincide with an event, try to explore beyond the city itself, visit nearby tourist attractions that could be quieter than normal, or just enjoy the inevitable citywide buzz surrounding the main event.

( How to explore Paris this summer beyond the Olympics. )

5. Why you should think about overcrowding

While many destinations welcome a return to pre-pandemic levels of tourism, others are actively trying to deter visitors. In Barcelona , tour groups have been capped at 20 people, while entrance to Athens’ Acropolis is now limited to 20,000 tourists each day. Dubrovnik has already cut the number of souvenir stands by 80%, while thousands attended an anti-tourism protest in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in April. All are concerned that overcrowding leads to skyrocketing prices for locals and causes environmental damage, with increased plastic pollution, erosion of heritage sites and traffic congestion. Consider less-visited destinations instead, swapping Santorini for Folegandros an hour’s ferry ride away, Dubrovnik for Šibenik with its medieval centre and fortress, or Barcelona for the Spanish seaside city of Valencia.

( What’s the problem with overtourism? )

travel groups to europe for young adults

6. How to deal with heatwaves

2023 was the hottest year on record globally, with temperatures in Europe above average for 11 months of the year. The Mediterranean was the worst area affected, with temperatures soaring above 40°C across Italy, Spain, Turkey, Cyprus and Greece. Consider travelling outside the hottest months, between July and September, or visiting destinations further north such as Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Lithuania or Ireland which should escape the most intense heat. If temperatures do climb, wear high-factor SPF, avoid being outside in the middle of the day and wear light-coloured clothes made from breathable materials. Avoid alcohol and drink plenty of water, and keep a close eye on vulnerable people, including young children and the elderly.

7. How to avoid being caught out by local laws and taxes

Do your research before travelling to make sure you don’t fall foul of new laws. A €5 tax for day-trippers was introduced in Venice in April, for example, and will be enforced on selected dates until July. It can be paid online in advance, and those staying overnight are exempt but do still need to register. A second tourist tax of €1 to €5 per night is already applicable to overnight stays and should be paid at your hotel. Be aware that some Airbnbs ask that this is paid in cash. Other new rules in parts of Mallorca and Ibiza ban drinking on the street and prevent shops selling alcohol at night, though you will still be able to buy drinks in bars and restaurants.

A group of travellers on a beach wearing bathing suits walking towards the camera

There’s nothing quite like an action-packed Euro trip to scratch that travel itch

Whether you want to get your fill of epic Game of Thrones scenery on the walls of  Dubrovnik , soak up some sun (and an Aperol Spritz or two) in  Venice  or go camping among the glaciers in  Iceland , there’s a European adventure out there waiting for you.

Our Europe 18 to 35s trips

Why choose us.

You can’t travel to Italy without checking out the Colosseum but finding that hidden gelato parlour that’s normally locals-only is just as memorable. That’s why we’ve included the big-ticket items, as well as plenty of free time.

Travelling with an experienced leader means you can just enjoy the moment, rather than worrying about when the last train leaves. They’ll also share stories and take you to places that only the locals know about.

Our groups are made up of 10 travellers on average. That’s big enough to create a good vibe, but small enough to explore a destination independently. And if you’re travelling solo, it’s the perfect number of new friends.

We believe that travelling sustainably is important. Through our not-for-profit The Intrepid Foundation , we are committed to supporting projects around the world – from reducing carbon in the environment to supporting the livelihoods of local communities.

We think where you lay your head at night can be just as cool as what you see during the day. Whether that be sleeping on a sailing boat off the coast of Turkey or rocking to sleep on an overnight train from Berlin to Krakow.

Want big-time experiences without the big-time price tag? Our 18 to 35s travel style means staying in simple, well-located accommodation, taking local transport and enjoying tasty local food, so you choose where your spending money goes.

Frequently asked questions

Do i need to purchase travel insurance.

You sure do. Travel insurance is compulsory on all our trips if you’re travelling internationally. Your leader will take down your insurance details on the first day in case they are needed during the trip, so make sure to bring your policy documents.

Do I need any travel vaccinations?

Vaccination requirements differ depending on the destination, and as we’re not medical practitioners, unfortunately we can't advise on this issue. Please see your local GP or travel doctor for details and advice about current vaccination requirements.

Will the accommodation have wi-fi?

Most hotels, cafes and bars have Wi-Fi, especially in big cities and towns. In remote places (like the Sahara and the Amazon Rainforest) or on treks or homestays, you won’t be able to access Wi-Fi or mobile data as easily. Your leader will give you a heads-up beforehand so you can call home or send a quick WhatsApp.

Your leader can also help you buy a local SIM card if you'd like to stay connected.

Do I need a COVID-19 vaccine to join an 18 to 35s trip?

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, we will no longer require travellers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises).

However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travellers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

What’s the standard of accommodation on an 18 to 35s trip?

You’ll be staying in simple, well-located accommodation with shared amenities, though it's common for rooms to be ensuite. Rooming is organised on a twin-share basis. We pair up solo travellers with another traveller of the same gender as per the gender marker on each of their passports.

If your gender identity differs from what is indicated on your passport, please contact us so that we can discuss rooming options with you. If you'd like your own space, most of our trips also have the option to pay a fee for an individual room.

International travel documents for children

See what documents a child needs to travel to or from the U.S. alone or with a parent or relative.

Children traveling to the U.S.

All children, including infants, must have their own travel documents such as a passport or document from a Trusted Traveler Program to enter the U.S. If you travel or are going to travel with a child, consider taking the following documents:

  • If the child is traveling with only one of their custodial parents, they must have a letter of consent, preferably in English and notarized, from the other parent or signed by both parents. The letter should say "I acknowledge that my son/daughter is traveling outside the country with [the name of the adult] with my permission."
  • If one parent has sole custody of the child, a copy of the custody document can take the place of the other parent's letter.
  • Parents who frequently cross the border by land with a minor must always carry a letter of permission from the other parent.

U.S. citizen children traveling abroad

Ports of entry in many countries have security measures to prevent international child abduction . If you are traveling alone with your child, you may be required to present documentation proving you are the parent or legal guardian. You may also need a letter of permission from the other parent for your child to travel.

If your child travels alone, depending on the country, they may be required to present a notarized letter from both parents or their legal guardian. If a minor is traveling abroad and is not accompanied by both parents or a legal guardian, contact the embassy or consulate of the country you will be visiting and ask about entry and exit requirements for that country.

Leading porn sites caught by new EU law to police online content

Javier Espinoza in Brussels and Patricia Nilsson in Frankfurt

Roula Khalaf, Editor of the FT, selects her favourite stories in this weekly newsletter.

Three of the world’s biggest pornography sites will be hit with new regulatory curbs including stricter requirements on age verification, after EU regulators determined the adult platforms fell within the scope of a landmark law designed to police content online.

Xvideos, Pornhub and Stripchat will be from April subject to the obligations of “very large online platforms” under the Digital Services Act (DSA), according to three people familiar with the move.

That designation applies to platforms with more than 45mn users and has so far been applied to tech groups such as Facebook, Wikipedia and TikTok.

The adult websites caught by the legislation will be forced to comply with a series of stringent measures, including being forced to apply systems that can verify the age of users, according to people familiar with the plans.

Other measures include new responsibilities to take down illegal content such as non-consensual videos, and becoming subject to external audits to ensure they comply with rules. An announcement on the EU’s decision is expected on Wednesday.

The three online porn platforms are among some of the world’s most visited sites. Xvideos alone has 160mn monthly visitors in the bloc, according to people familiar with EU regulators’ analysis, representing about a third of EU citizens.

Companies that fail to follow the new EU digital rules face fines of up to 6 per cent of their global turnover.

Canada-based Pornhub said it had only 33mn users in the EU and did not meet the DSA’s threshold. Stripchat, as well as Prague-headquartered Xvideos, did not respond to requests for comment.

The DSA represents a landmark overhaul of the bloc’s digital rules. It sets new standards for policing hate speech, disinformation and counterfeits online for large digital platforms. In April, the European Commission designated a total of 19 companies with special obligations under the law.

EU regulators have used the law to open an official probe into Elon Musk’s X over its record of policing content related to the Israel-Hamas conflict, and have sent requests to TikTok and YouTube to provide more information on their methods in regards to policing content

Thierry Breton, the EU commissioner in charge of implementing the DSA, said: “I have been very clear that creating a safer online environment for our children is an enforcement priority under the DSA.”

Regulators across the world have struggled to police so-called user-generated sites, which rely on individuals to post content and have been criticised for harbouring harmful and illegal material.

Porn sites have proven particularly difficult to rein in, as most of the large so-called tube sites, such as Pornhub and Xvideos, are owned by a handful of secretive companies .

The company behind Pornhub this year changed its name from MindGeek to Aylo, as it was bought by a freshly launched venture called Ethical Capital Partners that sought to distance itself from a string of scandals. One includes a US lawsuit where Pornhub, alongside Visa, is being accused of having profited from a video of a sexual nature featuring a minor.

Visa at the time said it disagreed “strongly” with a court’s decision to dismiss its argument that allegations being tested had been based “entirely on the independent actions of parties other than Visa”. Pornhub has also denied allegations of wrongdoing.

No adult sites responded to the EU’s initial request for companies with more than 45mn users to come forward, according to three people close to the EU’s process. Regulators took several months to identify the three porn platforms as potentially falling within the requirements of the DSA, while deciding that several other popular adult websites did not.

Other European countries have tried to regulate porn sites, with both France and Germany having taken steps to force adult companies to verify the age of users.

Article body

Where is euro 2024 being held  .

Germany is hosting EURO 2024, having been chosen to stage the 17th edition of the UEFA European Championship at a UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Nyon on 27 September 2018. Türkiye was the only other nation that bid to hold UEFA EURO 2024. West Germany hosted the 1988 edition, but this is the first time Germany has staged the UEFA European Championship since reunification. The 2006 FIFA World Cup also took place in the country.

The UEFA EURO 2024 final tournament began on 14 June and runs until 14 July 2024. The group stage concludes on 26 June, with the knockout stage beginning on 29 June.

As the host nation, Germany were seeded in Group A and occupied position A1; they therefore played the opening match – a 5-1 win against Scotland – at the Munich Football Arena on Friday 14 June. Germany/West Germany have featured at every EURO since 1972. West Germany won the 1972 and 1980 editions, while the reunited Germany triumphed at EURO '96 .
