Let customers speak for us

I was really looking forward to my son having this for our holiday plane trip but sadly two of the items were unuseable. A wipe clean writing book with no felt pen. And an item that was recommended for 6 year old which was not appealing to a 3 year old. Felt like it was therefore very poor value. I received quick replies to my emails stating concern but only resolution provided after a second email was a 5% refund- £1.14!! And there are no snacks included in the packs- I was told this has discontinued.

User picture

I had high expectations after reading reviews but unfortunately I’m disappointed with my purchase. The pack is advertised on the website advising that 2 snacks are included. When it arrived there were no snacks in the package. I contacted customer services who stated they are no longer supplying snacks and that they hadn’t updated their website and offered me 5% off my next purchase. This didn’t suffice as I’d paid the price I did based on the pack coming with snacks. I asked to return the item or be provided with an additional item sent FOC to replace the snacks. I received the item today and it’s a cheap yo-yo. I feel this isn’t equivalent to the price of what the snacks would be. Overall, I feel the items included in the pack are not worth the money and I wish I’d just purchased the items myself from a local retail. It’s a shame as I like to support small businesses and I wouldn’t have left this review if a suitable additional item would have been sent. Also the fact I was only offered 5% off my next order and I had to ask for an additional item is disappointing.

We have twin 2 year olds, bought this full kit and the additional plane pal without the pump. Would highly recommend. Easy to inflate (I would definitely get the pump if you don’t already have a manual airbed pump). Our girls slept for the whole 8 hour flight (nighttime flight) and half of the 10hr flight there (morning flight). I even managed to lay down and have a nap across them as we had four seats in a row and the two pillows inbetween mine and my husbands seats. Was also great to provide space for the girls to get closer to the plane’s TV screen And to stop dummies/toys/snacks falling on the floor. I’m so happy I bought this and customer service was great!

User picture

My little girl really enjoyed opening the bag, some great little items inside including magazines etc... would/will definitely purchase again.

User picture

George absolutely loved his travel bag. We purchased the small bag to try first. He enjoyed playing with the new toys and reading the new books. The treats were perfect too, vegan and allergen free. Will definitely purchase a bigger bag for our next trip. Here he is getting excited to find out what’s inside whilst waiting at the airport.

Zinc Flyte Case Scooter Review!

Quite often I’m envious of Jetlag & Mayhem’s travel style. They think nothing of traveling with a big colourful bow on their head or toting a sparkly disco backpack. Now they’ve stepped it up a notch with a carry-on bag that doubles as a scooter!  So whilst I’m dragging my boring black Samsonite behind me, they are whizzing through the terminal (although as we only have one Flyte between the two of them, they are also fighting over it).

On Flyte Airport

So what is this intriguing invention?

Founder of Flyte Simon didn’t want little travellers doomed to huff their way through queues and trudge along with trolleys. So he created a practical piece of luggage and a safe scooter combined.

What does it look like?

There are various colourful designs available . Jetlag & Mayhem immediately wanted ‘Olivia The Owl’.  The suitcase itself has an external squidgy plastic shell.  You can then extend the handle stem to use as a pull along case.  The Flyte is small enough to be considered cabin baggage and we stored it in the overhead locker.

We tested out the ‘Midi’ version, aimed at 4 to 8 year olds, 26cm x 33cm x 48cm.

How does it transform into a scooter?

Fairly easily…  Pull the footplate up and out and the case is now a scooter.  Takes a few tries to get the hang of it.

What’s the inside of the case like?

The Flyte will hold approx. the same amount as a Trunki (25l). Once the case is unzipped you’ll find a zipped mesh pocket on one side and also straps over the main part.

zinc travel scooter

What age is the Flyte suitable for?

Manufacturers recommend age 3+. It really depends on the height of your kids.  Jetlag & Mayhem are 9 and 6 respectively. For the 6 year old it was perfect. For the 9 year old, she is a tiny bit too tall but still insisted on riding it.

On Flyte Airport

Should I buy a Flyte?

These beauties don’t come cheap at SGD 179 / USD 130.  But they would make super birthday/Christmas presents and your child will love you for it.  Don’t buy one if your child is too young and you think you’ll end up schlepping it through the airport.  Also do factor in the height of your child. Whilst my 9 year old was fine to scoot on it, as a wheelie suitcase it was a tad short.

For me, the Flyte was indispensable on a recent trip to Vietnam. We were endlessly delayed at the airport and the Flyte kept Jetlag & Mayhem entertained for hours (no exaggeration).

Ok, I’m sold, where can I buy one?

You can buy through Kid On The Move  who ship for free in Singapore for orders over SG $50. If you are outside Singapore, message them direct to receive a shipping quote.

Before you jet off on your travels, have a little practice so you know how to easily pull down out and store the footplate.

Zinc Velocity Plus review

Lewis Painter

Expert's Rating

  • Impressive performance from 500W motor
  • Innovative security-focused features
  • Dual brake controls
  • Siren is on the quiet side
  • Rear mud flap can rattle on uneven surfaces

Our Verdict

The Zinc Velocity Plus is an electric scooter that not only provides top-tier performance from its 500W motor, but with a built-in cable lock and NFC-based locking system, it’s secure too.

As we eek closer to the possibility of the legalisation of privately-owned electric scooters on UK streets, British brands are starting to take the e-Scooter revolution seriously. One such manufacturer is Zinc, with a range of electric scooters tailored to potential UK regulations.

The king of the collection is the 500W Zinc Velocity Plus, a £700 electric scooter that not only delivers impressive performance, but a few security-focused features not present on many cheaper electric scooters. The question is, does that justify the expensive price tag? Well…

Design & features

  • Fairly heavy at 22kg
  • Built-in cable lock
  • Unique NFC-based locking system

The Zinc Velocity Plus is a good-looking electric scooter with a largely clean design, lacking visible brake cables that run down the stem. Where cables are visible, the black colouring helps them disappear into the largely black body of the scooter. The design is complete with silver Zinc branding on the stem, adding to the overall premium look of the scooter.

Zinc Velocity Plus Electric Scooter deck

Lewis Painter / Foundry

The deck is fairly long and wide, and the grippy textured pattern helps you stay securely on the scooter even when riding in damp conditions. It’s not the largest around – that title goes to the Inokim Ox Super in my experience – but it’s still easy enough for me and my UK size 11s to stand with one foot in front of the other.

One thing to note is that it doesn’t officially boast any kind of water resistance. I’ve ridden the scooter in damp conditions with no adverse effects, but I’d steer clear of puddles and riding while it’s actually raining to be on the safe side.

As with most scooters, the Zinc Velocity Plus can be folded down in a few seconds, ideal for transport and storage. While it measures in at 1164 x 550 x 1185mm unfolded, it can fold down to a more compact 1164 x 550 x 575mm with ease. The folded stem attaches to the board via a small latch, allowing you to carry the folded scooter by the stem.

Side-on shot of the Zinc Velocity Plus Electric Scooter folded on grass

Bear in mind that at 22kg, it’s certainly not one of the most lightweight scooters to lug around by hand, but it’s still manageable.

The handlebars are comfortable to hold, sporting dual brakes (which I’ll discuss later), a thumb throttle, indicator controls, a bell and a centrally mounted display. The display is plenty bright for use in outdoor conditions, displaying key information including current speed, battery life and the mode you’re currently using.

Zinc Velocity Plus Electric Scooter display

The power button also controls the built-in LED light which helps illuminate the floor ahead of you when riding in dark conditions, and there are reflectors on the front and sides as well as a brake light to make you more visible at night.

While that’s all fairly standard for an electric scooter, where the Zinc Velocity Plus really stands out is in the security department.

First up is a built-in safety lock, found nestled within the stem of the scooter, allowing you to quickly lock it up without the need to carry a separate lock. It’s certainly convenient when you’re quickly nipping to the shop, though with a relatively thin cable, it wouldn’t take too long for a determined thief to break.

Zinc Velocity Plus Electric Scooter built-in cable lock

Equally as impressive is an NFC-based locking feature that requires you to either tap an NFC card or key chain accessory onto the display to unlock the scooter. If you don’t, you’ll find that the scooter won’t provide any acceleration and it’ll constantly beep to draw attention to itself.

The latter is particularly interesting, though I’d have liked the beep to be a little louder – it’s barely audible on a busy road. An automated brake lock would’ve also been a nice touch as you can still push the scooter without any resistance when locked.

Zinc Velocity Plus Electric Scooter NFC locking system

Still, it’s a nice idea that I’d love to see developed further.

Performance

  • Rapid performance from 500W motor
  • Dual brakes provide great control over deceleration
  • Bumpy on uneven surfaces

Within the Zinc Velocity Plus is a powerful 500W motor – more than the popular Turboant V8 and Xiaomi’s Mi Scooter Pro 2 – that, as you might expect, translates to a rather rapid riding experience.

In fact, it’s clear in use that the Zinc Velocity Plus is capable of blasting past the top speed of 15.5mph, with rapid acceleration taking you up to the top speed before you feel the scooter slowing itself down, possibly with an automated braking system. It would’ve been nice to remove the limiter for use on private land to see just how fast the Velocity Plus can go, but that’s not possible.

Zinc Velocity Plus Electric Scooter front wheel and suspension system

That’s down to UK law, with rental electric scooters and electric bikes limited to 15.5mph, and it’s widely believed that it’ll also be the case with private scooters if/when they’re legalised.

That said, the performance on offer from the Velocity Plus is impressive. That rapid acceleration means it’s quick to take off on a green light, and the powerful motor makes quick work of inclines of up to 15 degrees. Not once during my testing did I feel the Velocity Plus lacked the power to get me where I was going.

As with most scooters, there are three riding modes to choose from. The Eco mode limits the speed to 6.2mph and slows down the acceleration, but in return offers the best possible range from the scooter. You can ramp it up to 12.4mph in the Drive mode, or if you’re like me and want the very best performance possible at the sacrifice of battery life, the Sport mode provides rapid acceleration and top speeds of 15.5mph.

In fact, all that’s really missing is cruise control, allowing you to take your finger off the throttle after a few seconds of riding at the same speed. It’s a small omission admittedly, but one that’s noticeable on longer rides.

Equally as important as acceleration is stopping power, and the Velocity Plus doesn’t disappoint there either. Rather than offering a single brake control like many popular options, it sports dual brake controls that you’ll find on standard bikes.

Zinc Velocity Plus Electric Scooter handlebars

It’s a much better option than a single brake system which doesn’t really provide much control over the braking, making it harder to come to a stop safely. The dual controls, on the other hand, allow you to control the front and rear brakes independently for better control both during deceleration and emergency stops.

It’s a feature that consumers tend to overlook, but it’s such an important aspect to consider.

Elsewhere, the combination of a 9.3in air-filled front tyre and dual-fork suspension helps reduce the judder from uneven riding surfaces, but with a solid rear wheel that lacks any kind of suspension, it’s still not the smoothest ride ever – especially on the tarmac patchwork that is London’s roads – and the rear mud flap can sometimes rattle on uneven roads.

Zinc Velocity Plus Electric Scooter rear mud flap and brake light

That’s fairly standard among most alternatives out there in its price range though. In fact, you’d have to splash out nearly double on the likes of the $1,650/£1,299 Inokim Ox Super for proper e-scooter suspension and a super-smooth ride.

The powerful motor on offer also allows for heavier riders up to 120kg (around 19 stone) compared to the average of 100kg (around 16 stone) from most competitors.

Battery life & charging

  • Up to 31 miles on a charge
  • Full charge in around 6 hours

Hidden within the deck of the Zinc Velocity Plus is the 36v 13Ah (468Wh) lithium-ion battery that helps power the responsive performance on offer from the scooter.

When it comes to range, you should expect the battery to provide a maximum of 31 miles on a charge – though expect less if you’re riding around at full speed, as the estimate is based on use of the eco mode. As with all scooters, it’ll also depend on rider weight, the incline of the road and even the temperature, so mileage can – and will – vary.

That said, it’s still more than enough to get around my local area without scrambling for a charger, comfortably managing around 15-20 miles at fairly fast speeds. If you’re looking to get the most range possible, the 50-mile Turboant V8 and its dual battery system might be a better fit.

Zinc Velocity Plus Electric Scooter charging port

Charging is a little slow at around 6 hours on average using the supplied kit, though it should still go from flat to full during a standard workday if you want to use the scooter for commuting. The charging port itself is hidden at the bottom of the stem behind a waterproof cover, keeping it nice and protected when riding in the wet.

Considering the combination of performance and features on offer from the Zinc Velocity Plus, it comes in at a fairly decent $840/£699.99. It’s still expensive, but there’s definitely value to be had here.

If you’re tempted, you can buy the Zinc Velocity Plus directly from Zinc in the US and UK , as well as Currys and Amazon in the UK.

If that’s a little too expensive for your budget, take a look at our selection of the best electric scooters for tempting options at all price ranges.

Zinc Velocity Plus Electric Scooter folded on the grass

The Zinc Velocity Plus is an impressive electric scooter that does everything you’d expect from an electric scooter and more. The built-in cable lock is a convenient feature, but the NFC-based locking system is my personal favourite – I just wish the siren was a little louder to deter would-be thieves.

Security features aside, the 500W motor provides rapid acceleration and top speeds of 15.5mph, though I suspect this has been speed limited and it’s capable of higher speeds. The 31-mile range is decent, the ride is consistent and dual brakes mean you’ve got complete control when you want to come to a stop.

It may be more expensive than some popular options on the market, but there’s a lot to like about the Zinc Velocity Plus.

Zinc flyte kids scooter luggage review.

This article may contain compensated links. See our full disclosure here

We love traveling with our twins but what we don’t like so much is carrying them and our luggage through huge busy airport terminals. Enter Zinc Flyte scooter luggage .

After one too many meltdowns (mine and theirs), I wanted a solution that could hold some of our many travel items and move the kids around with ease.

Many people had recommended ride on suitcases   but to be honest, pulling kids and heavy luggage around and juggling passports plus my own travel items was not the solution I was looking for.

When I saw this scooter luggage concept I thought all our airport problems were solved. And were they?

After 18 months using the Zinc Flyte scooters  for long and short haul international travel, I thought it was high time I wrote a review.

Summary: Zinc Flyte review summary

The cases are perfect carry on size so there is enough room for your child’s clothes and some toys for a long weekend trip away inside.

We have also used the the scooter bags on days out in and around big cities where they are useful for carrying extra clothing, drinks and snacks.

Setting up the scooter and putting it away takes a little bit of practice but once you have learned the ropes your kids will be gliding through airports and train stations with ease.

Case features

The case is made from strong flexible plastic while the three wheeled scooter and handle are metal. The top handle is extendable and has a rubber grip so you can wheel the case like standard carry on luggage.

There is a small top handle made from plastic so you can carry the bag without extending the handle if required. This is useful for stowing the scooter in overhead compartments.

Inside,  the case is lined and there is plenty of space for a child’s clothes and toys for a 3-4 day trip. Some of the space inside is taken by the scooter mechanism but I haven’t found this to be a problem.

Tip – While it is tempting to stuff a lot of gear in, you don’t want the scooter to be too heavy otherwise it can be too hard for the kids to steer it.

Check out the video below to see the cases in action

Using the suitcase scooter

Our twin preschoolers have been using the Zinc Flyte scooter cases for a year and a half now and love them. We have taken them on long haul flights across the world and shorter trips within Europe.

Our kids happily pack their cases prior to each trip and know how to fit as many toys in a possible!

Managing the airport processes with the scooters is so much easier than if the kids were on foot. Some of these airports are huge and have long walks to the gate. Cue whining if we had to walk the whole way.

We also took the cases on our trip to the fjords of Norway  and through Scandinavia  where we mostly travelled by train.

The biggest test and ultimately best win for me was a solo parenting train trip to Amsterdam from London (with a change at Brussels). I doubt if I could have managed 2 kids plus luggage without the scooters.

Some challenges – what doesn’t work so well

Over the months we have had a few small challenges with the scooters.

Our kids are expert scooters but turning took a little bit of practice with these cases, especially when they are quite heavy.

While the cases are carry on sized, you will need to lift them up into the overhead hold for storage as they do not fit easily under the seat in front on an airplane.

Flipping the scooter up and down can be tricky as the mechanism is quite stiff and you need to pull quite hard to move it. The children are not able to flip the scooter up and down by themselves.

This is great from a safety perspective but it is a bit annoying if you want to fold the scooter up quickly – to go through security as an example.

Zinc flyte case specifications

There are 2 sizes of scooter for different age groups. See the table below for the specs

Safety considerations

Zinc flyte scooters have in built safety mechanisms:.

  • a lock on the pull up handle to stop it from falling
  • the scooter locks into place when flipped up or down and needs some force (an adult) to move it to the other position

The scooter lock can be a bit tricky to manage even for an adult. It’s my main challenge with this product but I appreciate it from a safety point of view.

Some parents like their kids to wear helmets when scooting. We are of the opinion that this product is mainly used indoors and away from moving vehicles so do not put helmets on our children when they use their scooter cases. But of course that decision is yours.

Lastly, your children need to listen and take instruction when they are on these scooters in crowded airports or on train platforms.

You know your kids best, if you think your little ones will zoom off into the distance or crash into people on their scooter case then you may want to wait until they are school age to invest in this product. Personally I think 2 years old is a little young.

I also recommend using lifts where possible as the scooter can get in the way on escalators.

Final verdict on the Zinc Flyte scooter cases for kids

Honestly, I don’t know where we would be without our two trusty scooters. They have made a huge difference to our travels and are probably my favourite travel product of all time.

Our Zinc Flyte scooters have traveled the world with us – from the Flam Railway to the canals of Amsterdam,

The few annoying things about this luggage are more than offset by the convenience and ease of use.

People always stop us to ask us where we got them from as we cruise easily around the airport. Especially frazzled parents trying to carry kids and luggage.

Want to buy Zinc Flyte scooters?

If you are based in the UK you can purchase the bags directly from Zinc Flyte.

I hope you found this review useful. Feel free to add a comment with your questions and I’d love to know your thoughts if you decided to get the scooters for your family.

Zinc GZ1 is the first Formula E electric scooter

Available in the UK, the £400 e-scooter has a 12-mile range and a top speed of 15.5 mph

Zinc GZ1 Formula E e-scooter

The Formula E electric race series has teamed up with Zinc to launch an e-scooter .

Priced at £400, the Zinc Formula E GZ1 folding scooter is powered by a 250w motor and has a top speed limited to 15.5 mph. It has a range of up to 12.4 miles and the manufacturer says it can be recharged in between four and six hours from a regular domestic socket.

Special features include a headlight and tail light that come on automatically and adjust to compensate for ambient lighting conditions, and indicators that automatically light up when the scooter is turned by more than 15 degrees.

Zinc claims an integrated gyroscope, unique to this scooter, provides a smoother and more stable ride. The scooter uses a thumb-controlled accelerator and there are three power modes with speed limits of 3.7 mph, 11.2 mph and 15.5 mph to help make the scooter accessible for riders of all experience and abilities. There’s also a cruise control function that keeps the scooter at a set speed.

The GZ1 rides on 9-inch pneumatic, tubeless tyres and there is a rear drum brake with regenerative braking for slowing down with a bicycle-style lever. Like other e-scooters at this price point, an LED display on the handlebar shows speed, riding mode and battery level.

Weighing 14.7kg and suitable for riders of up to 100kg, the scooter has a one-click folding mechanism that lowers the handlebar to rest on top of the rear wheel.

Just like Formula E race cars (and all other privately-owned e-scooters ) the Zinc GZ1 cannot currently be used on public roads or pavements in the UK. It can only be ridden on private land with the landowner’s permission.

Formula E says this scooter is to be followed by six more products carrying its branding. To be released over the next 12 months, these include two more e-scooters, three e-bikes and a kick scooter.

Priced at £400, the scooter is available from Zinc, where it is currently sold out (as of 23 December) and Argos.

These differently-abled travel buffs are scooting beyond limits

 alt=

'We have to sit on wheelchairs to move, anyway. In that case, why not move them longer distances?' According to Sadique Kunjani, it is this question that urged him and his wheelchair-bound friends to undertake their first trip to Gundelpet. After around 50 such trips to destinations including Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and various destinations in Kerala, they have traversed more than 70,000 kilometres and are gearing up for more. Sadique, who was confined to a wheelchair after being affected by muscular dystrophy in childhood, met many like him at the 'Santhwanam' camp organised by the Perinthalmanna Municipality, years ago. Sadique's friend Rahul's movements were restricted following a spine injury. He also became friends with Bhadarusaman, his wife Muneera, Sujeev, Vivek, Nishad, Saji, Jaffer, Abubaker, Shaji and Salim, who all have similar stories to tell.

A new bond The wheelchairs, the motorbikes and their stories fuelled bondage among them that stood the test of time. The camp took them to many enthralling destinations, especially on buses. As they were not in a position to stretch themselves while sitting on bus seats, they missed many breathtaking vistas. When Sadique and his friends tried to soak in the wonderful sights with the help of volunteers, they were haunted by the thought that they were invalid. Finally, the travel buffs decided to travel sans volunteers. “We decided to travel on scooters attached with extra wheels, which were used for local transportation, for our first trip to Gundlupet. On May 12, 2016, we reached Gundlupet after riding our scooters via Nadukaanichuram and Bandipur after traversing the Muthumalai Reserve Forest. And we reached home via Wayanad,” he recollects.

‘Vijrambitha Yatra’ and ‘Komban’ When the travel group started riding the scooters, the members realized the mesmerizing vistas they missed while they travelled on buses. “We took a break when someone was sapped of energy or after riding continuously for 15 to 20km. We will get down from the scooters and talk to the local people. The wheelchairs that are strapped behind the scooters will be used to move around in the area and enjoy the wonderful views,” Sadique adds. The first group, named ‘Vijrambitha Yatra’, was created just to share the photos clicked during the maiden trip. As a matter of fact, the stupendous success of the first tour was a great surprise to the members of the group. “The majestic look of the wild elephants is still fresh in our minds. The society sees us as people with physical disabilities. The problem arises when we also think along similar lines. Fortitude and perseverance are in our minds,” he notes. Within days, the group’s appellation was changed to ‘Komban Riders’.

zinc travel scooter

Something extraordinary Whoever came to know about the travel grouping’s first expedition, only tried to dissuade them. “We know that they trying to stop us from travelling out of love. But our desire has no boundaries. We have to lead an extraordinary life to survive in this world. Everyone thought that those who lived with the help of others were coming together to embark on a journey. People raised many issues like, what if an elephant charged at you?” Sadique says. To prove their naysayers wrong, the group members will flash a tiger photo that was clicked in close proximity to the wild cat at the Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary. “A driver kept his car as a shield when the tiger came near us. We are grateful to the driver not only for protecting us but also for providing an opportunity to see the beauty of the wild animal in close quarters,” he adds.

A night at Aanakuzhi Once, the group was travelling to Mulli near Attapadi with the guidance of the Google map, and both sides of the road were covered in verdant forest. “Up ahead we saw a canal as we reached Aanakuzhi and the road continued beyond that water body. It was getting dark and one of the vehicles got stuck in the canal. We all got down and pushed the scooter out of the canal but the engine was dead as water had seeped into it. Later, the scooter was towed to a nearby village. The villagers were quite surprised that we travelled through the road at that time of the day. The danger was lurking as the canal was the drinking water source of the wild elephants,” Sadique says.

zinc travel scooter

‘Enter on foot’ The group usually travels to destinations that are wheelchair-friendly. The members longed to visit the Vagamon Adventure Park and the viewpoint. But when they reached there, they were told that they could enter the park only on foot and not in wheelchairs. “We decided not to enter the park if wheelchairs are not allowed inside. The park officials were obdurate as for them wheelchairs were nothing but vehicles. A similar incident happened when we visited the Sholayar dam. The good part is that we were allowed inside wheelchairs at both these places. But unfortunately, we were barred from entering Vagamon viewpoint and the museum in Thiruvananthapuram,” he adds.

Music on wheels Sadique and his travel buddies were sitting in a circle and singing songs at the Ooty Botanical Garden. Later, a motley crowd stood around the travel buffs and started singing and dancing along with them. A band by the name of ‘Music on Wheels’ took shape after that memorable incident. “We joined hands with differently-abled people of Malappuram to form the music band. To date, we have conducted more than 250 musical programmes,” Sadique notes. Most of the members of the ‘Komban Riders’ are working in ‘Freedom’, which is a startup company incorporated with the technical assistance of ‘Santhwanam’, to manufacture wheelchairs. “We embark on a journey with our hard-earned money. This shows one thing – we don’t want anyone’s sympathy. Allow us to do something. We are also human beings with lots of desire,” Sadique concludes.

How to rent an electric city scooter in Moscow

zinc travel scooter

The morning of May 19 heralded a new era for ground transportation in Moscow. In just one day more than 20,000 users signed up to rent electric city scooters, which have cropped up around the capital. Two car sharing operators (Delimobile and Youdrive ) launched rival scooter services on the same day: Rental points are located across the city, users pick up a ride at one of these stations, and return it at the end of their journey. At first glance the service appears almost identical to bicycle and car rentals, but it is not. This is how it works.

Delisamokat from Delimobile

The main advantage of Delisamokat is its cheap price and accessibility. One hour of rental will only cost 100 rubles ($1.6) and renting it for the whole day will amount to 450 rubles ($7.2). It takes one hour to go around the center of Moscow on the Garden Ring so you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Currently the service has points near all the central metro stations, as well as in Moscow’s northwestern and southwestern outskirts. In total there are 25 stations and 1,650 scooters.

The only limit is that you can’t rent the scooter at night. The stations opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m., and the scooters are given out by human operators (who also check their condition upon return).

Delisamokat scooters gradually increase speed with the push of an accelerator button. The maximum speed is 25 km/h. It also folds and has big wheels, meaning it is pretty stable. However, it should not be ridden through deep puddles or when it’s raining .

Delisamokat scooters gradually increase speed with the push of an accelerator button. The maximum speed is 25 km/h.

How to register for the service

-        First you will have to register on the app and fill out a form. It can be downloaded from the official site or at an App Store. The account is linked to a phone number so you will receive an SMS with confirmation.

-        Afterwards you will have to download and sign a user agreement and upload a scanned copy onto the system.

-       The next step is to enter your passport information. You will have to upload the passport (the centerfold with photo) and a selfie with the opened passport. You will also have to put your signature with your finger on the smartphone screen.

-        Now wait. The activation will take some time (usually a day) while administrators check your documents.

-       As soon as your application is approved, you will receive a confirmation on your email or phone.

How to rent an electric scooter

First, it must be reserved through the app, which shows how many free scooters there are and at which stations they can be found. Then you can pick it up at the station, having scanned the QR code from the app. That’s it.

If you are renting the scooter for the whole day, ask for a lock and charger. They are free.

What should you do if you can’t return it on time?

It is better not to forget. If you return the scooter the following day, you are charged 5,000 rubles ($80) and the service automatically renews the rental for the whole day. If you do not return the scooter within 48 hours, you will be fined 30,000 rubles ($480).

Maximum speed is 25 km/h!

Maximum speed is 25 km/h!

YouDrive lite service from Youdrive car sharing

This rental service has neither an hourly nor a day fee. You pay by the minute. One minute costs five rubles. One hour will cost you 300 rubles ($4.8). All the stations are located in the city center (within the Garden Ring). With this service it is also forbidden to use the scooter when it is raining.

However, this electric scooter is autonomous and it can be rented at any time of day. It has the same maximum speed as the Delisamokat (25 km/h), but there are two other speed modes. Battery power lasts for 20 km.

How to register with the service

This service has much less paperwork. If you have an account with YouDrive, you do not need to do anything else. There is a single bill. If you don’t, download the app and register with the car sharing service. The service says that all you need is a “passport and a clear conscience.” Authorization takes about two hours. Yet, there is one big drawback: The service does not have an English-language version like Delisamokat.

How to rent the scooter

You need to find the closest station, scan the QR code on the scooter’s wheel, and open the Bluetooth lock with the help of the app. Basically, that’s it.

In order to link the scooter to the time, you need to use the same integrated lock and app. A stranger will not be able to unblock it without access to the account.

The scooter can also be charged autonomously because it has a built-in accumulator. In order to leave the scooter at the station and end the rental time just scan the QR code of the parking lot.

Best E-Scooters In Moscow: How To Rent And How To Ride?

zinc travel scooter

Moscow is one of the most high-tech cities in Europe.

zinc travel scooter

The high population density, active rhythm of life, environmental focus and fast progress have done their best: electric scooters in the Russian capital are totally integrated into social life.

And even though there are not so many bike lanes in Moscow available at the moment, riding e-scooters there is just a pleasure!

Wide prospects, lots of parks, lots of vehicles on every corner and the ability to leave the scooter literally anywhere!

Can Two People Ride One Scooter?

Whoosh ride review, how much does a urent scooter cost, urent ride review, what are the rules for riding e-scooters in moscow.

It is quite simple:

– The minimum age for riding e-scooters is 14 years .

– Each scooter must have proper brakes and front and back lights (which the rental companies have taken care of).

– You don’t need to have a driving license in order to rent an e-scooter. The only e-scooters that require it are those with a maximum speed of 50 km/h and a power of 250 watts or higher.

– You are not allowed to ride an e-scooter under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Can You Ride An E-scooter On The sidewalk?

zinc travel scooter

– You can ride an e-scooter on sidewalks, pedestrian and bike paths.

– It is also allowed to ride on the right side of the roadway on those roads where the speed does not exceed 60 km/h.

– There aren’t many bike paths available yet, and most of them are located in the very center of Moscow city. On pedestrian roads and sidewalks, priority is always given to pedestrians.

Where You Can Not Ride An E-scooter In Moscow?

– You should avoid roadways with allowed speed of 60 km/h or more.

– You cannot ride an e-scooter on highways or on any road if there is a sidewalk or bike lane available.

What Is The Speed Limit For Electric Scooters In Moscow?

The maximum speed of riding is 25 km/h.

Some companies made it up to 19 km/h , which in general is a plus, given the hecticness of Moscow roads during peak hours.

Can You Ride An E-scooter In The Rain?

Yes. It is absolutely safe, since the motor and the battery are completely hidden and protected from moisture.

Just be careful on wet roads, as they become more slippery, especially when turning.

According to the rules, one person per scooter.

In fact, in Moscow this rule is followed in about 80% of cases.

Therefore, everything is under your responsibility. I am all for safety, so if you want to ride as two of you, then avoid roadways and do it in parks or big squares.

How To Rent An Electric Scooter In Moscow?

The technique is very simple and absolutely the same as in any other city in the world.

1. Download the e-scooter app.

There are several e-scooter companies providing service in Moscow, and further in the article I share a detailed review of each of them.

2. Sign up to the app, open access to geolocation and find the nearest scooter on the map.

zinc travel scooter

3. The scooter can be unlocked in two ways:

– choose the one you like in the app and unlock it,

– if you are outside, find a scooter and scan the QR code on its handlebars.

4. Then you just need to click “start”, and in a couple of seconds you will be riding along the beautiful wide streets of Moscow 🙂

How To End A Trip On An E-scooter In Moscow?

First of all, you choose a parking spot and stop there.

The good news is that in Moscow you can park almost everywhere.

During all my rides I have stopped the scooters anywhere around the city with no need to search for parking spot.

After stopping, you need to put the e-scooter on the footstep, finish the ride in the app and take a photo of the scooter as a proof that everything is alright with it.

How Much Does It Cost To Rent An E-Scooter In Moscow?

Some companies have slightly higher costs, some a bit lower prices, but on average, 1 minute of riding costs 6-7 rubles , plus sometimes you need to pay an unlock fee which is 50 rubles .

Also, e-scooter companies offer discounts, ride passes and promo codes that allow you to save rubles on rides.

What Is The Cheapest E-scooter In Moscow?

There are three large startups in Moscow providing electric scooters for rent. These are Whoosh, Urent and Yandex Go .

One more company providing e-scooter rental is Lite , but at the time of writing this article, their scooters can only be found in the districts near Moscow or in some other Russian cities.

I have tested all three of these companies, and further I will compare them regarding prices, the use of the app, and the ride experience itself.

Website  |  iOS  |  Android

This company provides the largest number of e-scooters in Moscow.

You will see them everywhere , in any small street, in some areas right near the apartment entrances, and of course, in the city center.

zinc travel scooter

I am appealing to their idea of modern urban cities that embrace technologies to improve people’s lives while minimizing harm to the environment.

How Do You Use a Whoosh Scooter?

The way of using Whoosh is exactly the same as I mentioned above in the article.

You need to download the app, log in with your phone number (no other data is required), link a card for payment and select the e-scooter you need.

There are two ways to unlock the vehicle: scan the QR code on the handlebars of the scooter through the phone’s camera or click on the one you choose right in the app. In the second case, you will still need to find this e-scooter on the street.

zinc travel scooter

After you have reached your destination, you need to stop the scooter, put it on the kick stand and complete the ride in the app.

The system will ask you to take a photo of the scooter as confirmation that everything is alright with it. You make the photo directly in the app and it will be automatically saved in the program.

Nothing else needs to be done, just make sure that the ride is definitely completed and the scooter is locked.

How Do You Start a Whoosh Scooter?

After unlocking the scooter, you need to stand with one foot on the platform, gently push off with the other foot, and press the GO button.

That’s it.

So simple and so convenient to navigate through the city streets.

How Much Does a Whoosh Scooter Cost?

You’ll love Moscow prices for e-scooter riding!

One minute of ride will cost only 7 rubles, and for unlocking a scooter they charge 50 rubles.

So with this price, half an hour of your ride will cost you only 260 rubles (or only 2.68 euros at the exchange rate on July 1, 2023).

BUT!.. That’s not all 🙂

zinc travel scooter

Even with such a good pricing Whoosh offers a lot of extra promotions.

For example, from time to time they offer promo codes for free scooter unlocks. In this case, you will only have to pay for the minutes spent on the ride.

I was able to use these promo codes several times, and in the end, some trips lasting about 10 minutes cost only 80 cents!

So how is the Whoosh ride itself?

I’ve had many rides with Whoosh, primarily because their e-scooters were usually the easiest to find in my nearby area.

In general, I can say that the rides were quite comfortable, scooters are easy to ride.

They have a speed limit of 19 km/h , although for busy Moscow roads, this is actually a benefit.

zinc travel scooter

The app runs without errors and does not break. Some scooters have a phone and a bag holder on a handlebars as well as a lock.

Indeed, considering the price, you can’t expect anything better.

Urent E-scooters

zinc travel scooter

Urent is a small start-up operating since 2018. It is based in Russia and available in more than 100 Russian cities.

The company’s main idea is – simplicity, mobility, fun.

Since 2018 over 3,000,000 people have experienced Urent rides.

How Do You Use a Urent Scooter?

The Urent team shared detailed instructions on how to use an e-scooter on their website.

The key points are:

Scan the QR code on the scooter handlebars. If you are unable to scan it, enter the code manually.

Then, press the “start the ride” button in the app.

zinc travel scooter

In order to start moving, push off with one foot and press the “gas” button on the handlebars.

Before starting a ride, you can check the battery level of the scooter. The app will show how much time is left until it is completely discharged.

Same as with Whoosh, the Urent scooter prices are very reasonable.

I must note that it’s even a bit cheaper than other scooter rentals due to the fact that you don’t need to pay for an unlock fee.

So there you just pay for minutes: 7,19-7,29 rubles per minute of ride and 0,00 rubles per unlock. Though some in some areas you might be charged for an unlock fee, but in my experience I never paid for it.

zinc travel scooter

Plus the company offers different kinds of promotions, daily passes and subscriptions which can make your ride even more cheap.

For example, if you plan to take a trip from Red Square to Vorobyovy Gory or just use a scooter a lot during the day, you might be interested in a one hour pass or “till full discharge” pass.

A three-hour pass will cost you around 815 rubles for 180 minutes, which makes the price very reasonable – only 4,5 rubles per minute.

These offers appear constantly so you just need to sign in the app and wait 🙂

One benefit of Urent is that you can rent two scooters with one phone.

How to do it? Scan and unlock the first scooter, start your ride, and then scan and unlock another scooter.

In fact, I didn’t notice any difference between riding Urent scooters and Whoosh scooters.

The rides were smooth and comfortable. The handlebars, gas, and brakes worked properly.

The app didn’t experience any issues either.

zinc travel scooter

The e-scooters themselves are quite light, which is important for someone of my build 🙂

What Is Better: Whoosh Or Urent?

Whoosh is better because they offer more vehicles around the streets.

Urent is better because, in most cases, you don’t need to pay for an unlock fee, which makes them cheaper than rides with Whoosh.

Additionally, if you use promo codes and discount offers, your rides can be just slightly more expensive than bus ticket fares.

I can assume that even if you haven’t used Yandex Go scooters before, this name may still be familiar to you.

zinc travel scooter

Yandex is a massive Russian IT corporation that includes its own search engine, internet portal, and many other online services and products.

I won’t delve into all the details, as you can find all the information about the company here .

Despite the fact that the e-scooter project was launched only in 2021, it is currently undergoing active development and is already available in five cities in Russia: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, and Krasnodar.

How Do You Use a Yandex Go Scooter?

Renting Yandex Go scooters is just as easy as renting any other electric scooter:

zinc travel scooter

And that’s it!

zinc travel scooter

Okay, everything with riding and renting is clear. What about prices then?

How Much Does A Yandex Go Scooter Cost?

Yandex offers several tariffs for its e-scooter users.

The first and the most used one is the per-minute charge.

zinc travel scooter

This tariff is suitable for short trips around the city and in cases where you don’t know the exact destination or have multiple routes.

With this tariff, the cost of a minute of ride is 7 rubles , and an unlock fee of 50 rubles is also required.

Another very convenient tariff is the fixed price option. If you know the exact destination, you can find out the cost of the entire ride in advance and get it fixed.

How To Ride A Yandex Scooter For Free?

Yandex offers free start subscription.

It costs 199 rubles per month and allows you to unlock scooters for free.

But that’s not all!

This subscription allows you to rent up to three scooters from a single device.

Yes, I know you can rent two scooters from one phone, but three?

That’s totally something unusual!

So, if the standard cost of unlocking a scooter is 50 rubles, a simple mathematical calculation shows that the subscription becomes cost-effective after 4 rides if you’re riding alone, or after just 2 rides if you’re riding with a friend or two friends.

Yandex Go Ride Review

Yandex Go is definitely my favorite company among all e-scooters startups in Moscow!

The comfort of the ride, along with the bright and modern design of the scooters, as well as a stable and reliable app that doesn’t crash.

zinc travel scooter

Alisa voice assistant will notify you when the rental starts and after it ends.

Having 15 minutes of waiting time included for free can be convenient for quick stops, such as a visit to the grocery store.

And obviously, the option to book three scooters with one device is just amazing.

Basically, Yandex has put a lot of effort into making their scooter rides convenient and enjoyable for their users.

Travelling to the Russian capital?

Did you know that it’s possible to get on Moscow river cruise for just 1 euro? Check my post about how to do it.

A new way to get around at the Columbus Zoo? 'Scooter pals' rolled up this summer

There's a new ride at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.

The zoo introduced what are called "scooter pals" this summer, which are large stuffed animals on wheels with seats so people can ride around parts of the property. Included are a rhino, panda bear and giraffe, among other animal choices.

The scooter pals cost $5 to activate and 35 cents per minute. They can be ridden around the zoo's Adventure Cove, Conservation Lake and Asia Quest loop areas.

The zoo describes them as "stylish FUR-wheelers" and encourages guests to "hop on a Scooter Pal and roll through the Zoo in style."

To rent, riders must be 16 years old, but two can ride with the scooter's 440-pound weight limit. Riders have to be at least 36 inches tall.

They can be rented near the rides in Adventure Cove, where interested zoo attendees can scan a QR code, fill out a form and use a credit card, which will be pre-authorized for $30 before the ride.

Other zoos have added scooters in recent years, including the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens, which rents them for the same price.
