CATAN - Traveler

Was it too windy on the beach for a game of CATAN? Was the table too small to set up the island? Were you unable to settle Catan because there were only two of you? Or did you always have to leave CATAN at home because there was no room left for it in your suitcase?

CATAN - Traveler  would have prevented all this from happening.

CATAN Traveler 3D Box

With additional rules for 2-player games!

About the Game

  • Differences

CATAN - Traveler  is based on the same rules as the CATAN base game , its "big brother." At the beginning of the game, you and your opponents each build 2 settlements on the island of Catan. If the numbers of the terrain hexes your settlements are adjacent to are rolled, you receive resources. You use these resources - ore, brick, grain, lumber, and wool - to build roads in order to reach new settlement sites, to upgrade your settlements to cities, or to buy development cards so you can, at the right moment, turn the tide in your favor. If you lack a particular resource type, you trade with your opponents. If you trade cleverly and have a little bit of luck, you have a good chance to win the game.

The most important differences between CATAN - Travele r and the CATAN base game :

  • All of the game components fit in a case that occupies half the space required to store the CATAN base game.
  • The game pieces are stored in drawers. During play, you can take the pieces directly from there as needed, and you can put them back into the drawers after the game has ended.
  • Roads, settlements, and cities have small pegs that allow you to securely plug them into the holes in the game board. That way, gusts of wind or an accidental jostle won't jumble up the pieces you have placed on the game board.
  • The two dice are stored in a dice shaker with transparent cover, which is why they practically can't be lost. You can roll the dice everywhere - even if no flat surface is available or there isn't enough space to throw the dice with your hand.
  • It takes only a couple of seconds to set up the game board for  CATAN - Traveler.  Open the case and place the 6 double-sided game board pieces. Since you can randomly combine the board pieces, there are hundreds of different ways to set up the island. As with the  CATAN base game , besides completely balanced terrain hex distributions the compact version also allows for set-ups containing very few hexes of a particular terrain type, for example, mountains or hills.
  • People frequently travel in pairs. In order for you to settle Catan together with your partner, the compact version includes the tried-and-tested 2-player rules and the corresponding game components.

CATAN - Traveler  cannot be used with the CATAN expansions; however, it is a nice and elegant alternative when traveling or on vacation – particularly if you want to settle Catan with a partner.

Catan Travel Editions

Catan Cards

Do you love Catan so much that you want to travel with it? I know many people who have purpose made bags for carrying their Catan around in (really I do) BUT did you know that Catan has actually made a number of different versions of Catan for traveling?

There are four Catan Travel Editions: Struggle for Catan, Catan Traveler, Rivals for Catan and Catan Dice Game.

Table of Contents

Struggle for Catan

Struggle for Catan is a Board Game for Ages 10+ for 2-4 Players which only takes 30 Minutes to play.

What is Struggle for Catan?

  • A simplified and fast-paced way to play Catan without a board. Clever back-and-forth interaction in card-play!
  • Awesome Michael Menzel art.
  • 2 to 4 players
  • 30 minute playing time

The Struggle for Catan – Catan Travel

Struggle for Catan is a fast-paced, stand-alone card game for 2-4 players. Manage your resources to build roads, settlements, cities, and more. Although your kingdom and its buildings remain yours, valuable roads and knights can be taken from you by your opponents. Expand your cities to earn more victory points and create powerful special advantages. As in the Catan board game, you win by being the first to earn 10 victory points. Struggle for Catan is the perfect way to swiftly and casually explore, settle, trade, and build on the beautiful island of Catan.

About the travel version of Catan – Struggle for Catan

The game consists of 110 cards. There are 5 different resource cards: brick, lumber, grain, wool, and ore as well as building cards for roads, settlements (back: city), and city expansions. You need the resource cards to build; for example, building a road costs 1 lumber and 1 brick, and building a knight costs 1 ore, 1 wool, and 1 grain. After paying the resources, you may place the corresponding building card in front of you.

On some cards, victory points are depicted. The first player to build cards (i.e., place cards in front of him) with a total value of 10 victory points wins the game.

Catan Traveler

The most important differences between  CATAN – Travele r and the  CATAN base game :

  • All of the game components fit in a case that occupies half the space required to store the  CATAN base game.
  • The game pieces are stored in drawers. During play, you can take the pieces directly from there as needed, and you can put them back into the drawers after the game has ended.

  • The two dice are stored in a dice shaker with transparent cover, which is why they practically can’t be lost. You can roll the dice everywhere – even if no flat surface is available or there isn’t enough space to throw the dice with your hand.
  • It takes only a couple of seconds to set up the game board for  CATAN – Traveler.  Open the case and place the 6 double-sided game board pieces. Since you can randomly combine the board pieces, there are hundreds of different ways to set up the island. Rivals For Catan 2 Player Card Game

Each player portrays a prince or princess of Catan, the aim is to grow your individual province, but also compete to build a more successful province than the other.

There is a standard version of Rivals for Catan and a Deluxe Version of Rivals for Catan.

The game puts you in charge of one of two factions developing the recently-settled island of Catan. Use a unique card mix to create your own principality and outsmart your rival! Explore and settle new lands, while you acquire and trade resources. Use gold, resource combinations, and the roll of the dice to develop your domain. Expand your settlements and cities, recruit heroes, and defend your lands through politics, invention, and intrigue. A clever strategy and a dash of luck decides who will be Prince of Catan!

Catan Dice Game

In the dice game version of CATAN, you also build settlements, roads, cities, and knights. Here, however, building doesn’t mean placing wooden or plastic game pieces on a game board. Instead, each player has a sheet depicting a smaller version of the island of Catan. You build by filling in the respective symbols for roads, knights, settlements, and cities.

Building a road, settlement, or city costs the same resources as in the big brother version of the game, but the way you obtain the required resources is completely different.

On your turn, you may roll 6 special dice up to three times. After each dice roll, you may either set aside part of the dice or roll all dice again.

Each side of a die depicts one of CATAN’s resources: brick, lumber, wool, grain, ore, or gold.

For example, if you roll 2 lumber, 2 brick, 1 grain, and 1 wool, you may build – i.e., fill in – a road and a settlement.

Each side of a die depicts one of Catan’s resources: brick, lumber, wool, grain, ore, or gold.

CATAN Dice Game dice

Of course, you also must observe certain rules when building. At the beginning of the game, the first road is already depicted as a built road. Starting from this road, you continue building more roads. Each road built is worth 1 point. The order in which settlements and cities must be built corresponds to the number of points they are worth, from low to high. The points for building a settlement increase from 3 to 11, and the points for building a city even rise from 7 to 30. Since you can build a city or settlement only adjacent to an already built road, you might often find yourself in a situation where you wonder whether you should build a city, which is more lucrative but more difficult to build, or a settlement, which is less lucrative but easier to build.

And what is the task of Catan’s knights? Well, each of the 6 terrain hexes depicts the contours of a knight. If you build (fill in) a knight, once during the game you may use the resource of a terrain hex where a knight was built in place of another resource of your choice. That is, after the third dice roll you may turn one of the dice so that the resource corresponding to this knight’s hex is face up.

After building, you enter your points in one of the 15 boxes depicted on your sheet. The game ends after each player has finished 15 turns. The player with the highest score wins.

  • The CATAN Dice Game is great for play on-the-go or during those moments “in between”.
  • It is easy to learn and doesn’t take long to play.
  • You can even play it as a single-player game.
  • From the Makers of Catan!
  • English Version | 1 to 4 Players | Ages 7+ | 20 to 40 Minute Playing Time

Written by: Scott Hamill

September 11, 2023

Settlers of Catan 3D prints come in many different forms, from simple tokens to entire boards. Using 3D printing, you can add to or even completely create your own version of Settlers of Catan, one of the most popular board games in the world.

3D Printed Settlers of Catan Full Board

In this article, I’m going to show you some of the best STL files to spice up your next Catan game, featuring everything from new cards to even travel boards you can take on the road. And as a bonus, every single Catan 3D print we’ll look at today is free!

My Favorite 3D Printed Catan Projects

  • Catan Pieces – From Star Trek fleets to Incan temples.
  • Catan Boards – Customizable designs for every Catan enthusiast.
  • Piece Holders – Expansion organizers to ensure every piece has its place.
  • Card Holders – Improving storage with hinged shelves and collapsible designs.
  • Catan Cards – Pop culture references and new resource cards.
  • Trophies and Tokens – Mark your achievements and penalties.

3D Printed Catan Pieces

Star trek ferengi ships.

  • Designer: Julius3E8

Merging a favorite franchise or beloved fantasy world with standard board games is a great way to spice them up and make them more unique to your tastes. This is true of chess , D&D , Warhammer , and of course, Catan.

Star Trek Catan

3D printing Star Trek pieces for Catan is a fun way to have your own fleet of star ships ready to dominate and thrive (or live long and prosper, if you will) while staying true to the original game. It may not make much sense to take over and develop land with the dreaded Ferengi ships, but it still makes for a good change of scenery that Star Trek fans will enjoy.

Brick Harbor

  • Download: Cults3D
  • Designer: MAKESENSE

This simple brick harbor is an improvement on an older piece to fit in better with other homemade tiles. The main reason I’ve chosen this tile is because of the high detail and impressive look. If painted carefully, this 3D printed Catan piece can look like something straight out of the official box.

Harbor

It comes with plans for a magnetic base too, so it can fit in easily with the main game.

Settlements and Keeps

  • Designer: Thuren

Making simple aesthetic changes is a good way to keep old favorites feeling fresh and new, and that’s where these 3D printed Catan pieces come in.

New Catan Pieces 3D Printed

Inspired by Moroccan, European, American, Arabian, and Greco-Roman architecture, these settlements and keeps are simple and well-designed 3D prints for your Catan board to add more historic realism to your play.

Incan Pieces

  • Designer: dhendren

Considering the impressive scope of the ancient Incan empire , it’s surprising that we don’t already have more board games dedicated to them. This is why this designer created Incan-inspired 3D printed Catan tiles to add more variety to the game.

Incan Pieces

The set includes some of the most famous examples of ancient Incan architecture for your Catan game, including Machu Pichi and the ancient Incan Temple.

If you’re a fan of these 3D printed Catan pieces, you can check out even more by the same designer on their Etsy store , which has Victorian pieces as well as Roman, Egyptian, and Viking buildings and sets among many others.

3D Printed Catan Boards

3d printed ‘catan’ game with expansion.

  • Designer: Dakanzla

This Catan-style 2.0 board is designed by Dakanzla , who designed the set to be easy to both print and customize.

Catan Board

By including the Tinkercad files in the link above, you can make alterations to personalize this board however you like, or even use it as a base for a whole new 3D printed Catan-style game.

The individual pieces are designed to look amazing if printed with dual extrusion printers and multicolor filaments to get some cool pieces that are as much a joy to make as they are to play with.

Board 2

For even more fun, you can check out the Traders & Barbarians expansion for this particular set that you can also download for free! If you prefer a simpler version, however, you can check out the first rendition of this 3D printed Catan board on Thingiverse .

According to users, this board can take over a year to print and paint , making it a great long-term or collaborative project.

High Resolution ‘Catan’ Board

  • Download: Printables
  • Designer: Thejiral

This 3D printed Catan board is top quality, with high-resolution pieces and markers that look like they came as part of an official set.

Full 3D Printed Catan Board

The only thing worth noting is that a standard 0.4mm nozzle won’t achieve the kind of resolution you can see in the example above, as it was designed with a 0.25mm nozzle in mind.

Fortunately, the designer has included plenty of instructions and advice included in the link above that I recommend reading before you dive in to get the high-quality prints you can see here.

Travel Catan

  • Download: PinShape
  • Designer: BigBadBison

Just about any game from Scrabble to Monopoly has a travel addition, and while the official Catan Traveler is great for this, you can still download and print your own version too.

Travel Catan

This simplified Catan-style game is smaller than an 8’’ envelope, making it the perfect portable game for Catan players who also like to travel light.

Custom Settlers of Catan Board

  • Download: Instructables
  • Designer: N/A

This step-by-step guide from Instructables will show you how to make your own customizable 3D printed Catan pieces from scratch, from design to print and painting, all while using an official set’s board as a base.

The instructions don’t include making your own cards, however, so you will need to make sure you have a set before you start playing with your unique Catan board.

Catan Piece Holders

Magnetic piece holder.

  • Designer: kylegilbert

Lost or scattered parts can make Catan frustrating, even unplayable. That’s why this designer created a 3D printed Catan piece organizer with a magnetic lid to make sure everything stays where it needs to be, even in transit.

3D Printed Catan Piece Holder

The only extra equipment you’ll need are some 8mm magnets and you’re ready to play with all the pieces you need.

Original + Expansion Piece Holders

  • Designer: Caleb.V

If you’re a Catan enthusiast, then chances are you’ve got at least one expansion, which means you’ll need holders and organizers for all the new and exciting pieces that come with them.

Catan Board Organizers 3D Printed

This all-in-one set of 3D printed Catan piece holders fits the original game, Cities & Nights, and Explorers & Pirates, and even includes slots for the extra bonus pieces that come with Traders & Barbarians along with the expansion pieces themselves.

Chit Organizer

  • Designer: mattookah

Catan pieces and chits are normally stored in plastic baggies, which can be fiddly, awkward, and take up too much space in the box. Fortunately, this designer came up with a solution for their various bits and pieces. It’s a simple print but does use some extra materials like padding for the box itself.

Catan Chit Organizer

The files are designed for 4th Edition Catan pieces, so be sure to resize the organizer in your slicing software as needed for whichever Catan variant you own.

Catan Card Holders

Hinged card holder.

  • Designer: JPK

Organizing your cards is a good idea to keep track of where everything is, but it’s also important to save space where possible. This 3D printed Catan card holder is hinged to act like small shelves where you can store your various resources.

Card Holder 2

The best part about this card holder is it’s designed to be added to, meaning you can always print more to further stack up and organize cards with each Catan expansion you print or buy.

Collapsible Card Holder

  • Designer: RotorAlex

The main problem with 3D printing your own Catan pieces and additions is that Catan boxes aren’t designed to fit more than what they come with, meaning you’ll normally need to store your printed extras separately.

catan card holder

This 3D printed card holder is collapsible, so it’s designed to be disassembled between games and easily fit into the game box so you can keep everything in one place.

Card Organizer

  • Designer: Adam Hale

This cute card organizer is another great way to keep your cards together with different drawers designed to be printed in different colors.

3D Printed Catan Card Organizer

Designed to fit into this 3D printed Catan piece carrier , it’s a great way to save space, ensure pieces don’t go missing, and have all your bits and pieces in one place and easy to find.

Card Holder + Coin Tube

  • Designer: pporto

Catan also uses coins and tokens to track progress and land holdings. That’s where this handy 3D printed card holder comes in, as the design includes slots for coins that you can easily access by lifting the panel.

Catan card and coin holder

The files also come with a design for a handy coin tube to keep the coins in one place instead of being scattered across the playing field.

3D Printed Catan Cards

Resource and development cards.

  • Designer: mort_jack

Catan cards

Whether you need new resource cards or are just looking to make your own custom set, these 3D printed Settlers of Catan cards are a great way to personalize and revitalize your game. If printed with PLA, they feel just like thick playing cards that won’t easily bend or wear down like traditional cards.

It also makes them liquid-resistant just in case you, like me, enjoy playing over a round of drinks.

Funny Alternative Catan Cards

  • Designer: Stacker55

3D printed Catan Cards

There’s nothing wrong with injecting a little humor into your strategy game, and that’s where these alternative 3D printed Settlers of Catan cards literally come into play. With apt images referencing pop culture like Finding Nemo, The Simpsons, Futurama, Fallout, and The Wizard of Oz, you and your players are bound to get a good chuckle out of them.

New Catan Cards

  • Designer: John K.

New Catan Cards

Additional resource cards are a good way to improve your game and add more players, especially if you find the base game to be a bit lackluster after a few dozen plays. These new cards allow for a shake-up of the resource management strategy, and feature some fun new designs that, with enough work and painting, look really cool.

Marking individual achievements is a good way to make your opponents aware of what you’ve accomplished as well as add uncounted victory points at the end of the game.

settlers of catan 3d printed trophies

To make this last-minute build-up to announcing the winner more fun, this designer came up with these awesome new trophies to go along with Catan’s own post-game rules. They include the longest road, largest army, and harbormaster to really show off your strategic prowess.

Longest Turn Fan Expansion Trophy

  • Designer: plank92

Penalty trophies play an important role too, as they make players change up how they view the game and rework their own strategies to avoid negative points.

Longest Turn 3D Printed Catan trophy

That’s where this fun (and funny) 3D printed Catan trophy comes in. When given to the player who took the longest turn, it deducts 2 points from their overall score, meaning players are less likely to dawdle and second-guess while they play, keeping everyone on their toes.

Largest Army Trophy

  • Designer: Klokttem

Largest Army

I just couldn’t stop myself from bringing up this design. The largest army trophy is a good one to reach for though play for those sweet additional points, but you’ll strive for it more when you get this trophy featuring knights with broadswords proudly standing by your +2 marker.

Lord of Catan Trophy

  • Designer: cmpickle

Points trophies are one thing, but what about the overall winner? Bragging rights are fun, of course, and everyone likes to win, but having a physical object to verify your victory?

3D Printed Catan Trophy Lord of Catan

If you play Catan regularly with friends, then this 3D printed trophy featuring the inscription ‘Lord of Catan’ is a fun and quirky way to mark who won the last game. You can even keep track of the longest winning streak for an extra friendly competitive edge too!

Honorable Mention Full Set of 3D Printed Catan Tokens

  • Designer: bananajuice2

How do you build without over polluting? That's the challenge of new Catan board game

A new version of the popular board game Catan, which hits shelves this summer, introduces energy production and pollution into the gameplay.

In the original version of the popular board game Settlers of Catan, players start on an undeveloped island and are encouraged to "fulfill your manifest destiny." To win you have to collect resources and develop, claiming land by building settlements, cities, and roads.

A new version of the board game, Catan: New Energies , introduces a 21st-century twist — pollution. Expand responsibly or lose. In the new version, modern Catan needs energy. To get that energy players have to build power plants, and those plants can run on renewable energy or fossil fuels. Power plants operated on fossil fuels allow you to build faster but also create more pollution. Too much pollution causes catastrophes.

travel edition catan

Building renewable energy-based power plants has benefits in the new game, including minimizing pollution for everyone, but it also makes you grow slower. Catan GmbH hide caption

Building renewable energy-based power plants has benefits in the new game, including minimizing pollution for everyone, but it also makes you grow slower.

"Generally it's tough to depict reality in a game. The reality is always so much more complex," said Benjamin Teuber, managing director of Catan's production company and co-developer of the new game. Games, he adds, need to be fun.

travel edition catan

Catan: New Energies makes players choose between renewable energy or fossil fuel-based power plants. The latter allows you to grow faster but creates more pollution. Catan GmbH hide caption

Catan: New Energies makes players choose between renewable energy or fossil fuel-based power plants. The latter allows you to grow faster but creates more pollution.

The newest iteration of Catan will hit shelves this summer. And it aims to mirror reality in a couple of clear ways: Energy from fossil fuels creates more planet-altering pollution than renewables; too much pollution leads to bad things ; those bad things are felt unequally .

"Sometimes flooding hits everybody, just as we see [in the real world]," said Teuber. "It doesn't matter who created the pollution. It affects everyone."

Teuber, who co-developed New Energies with his late dad, Klaus Teuber, said the game was an old idea they dusted off during the Covid-19 pandemic. It's one that's become increasingly relevant as the real world grapples with the effects of real pollution: a rapidly warming planet that's worsening wildfires, floods, and heatwaves.

The game's developers are aware of the relevancy. "It's a very interesting topic in every culture that we publish in," Teuber said.

Polls show climate change is viewed as a major concern across many parts of the world. But adapting to the changes and addressing its roots have proven difficult . Teuber said he thinks board games can help move the conversation forward. Board games generally require people to sit around a shared table, to read each other, to negotiate and take risks, "without having a severe and bad consequence," he said. "Unless divorce is the result."

Climate change experienced through board games

Catan: New Energies is not the only new board game centered on climate change. Daybreak , the latest game from the creator of Pandemic, a popular cooperative board game, tasks players with working together to cut carbon emissions and limit global warming.

In a blog post on Daybreak's website, the game's co-designer Matteo Menapace wrote that he and co-creator Matt Leacock were inspired to make the game because they were both worried about climate change and weren't sure what to do about it.

"The problem with the question 'what can I do about climate change,' is how it implies climate action is like a single-player game, with you alone fighting against this huge invisible enemy," Menapace wrote . They believe addressing climate change and its causes will require a collective effort. That's why Daybreak requires "total cooperation," Menapace wrote. "It's a big leap from the current state of climate (in)action, but not an unreasonable one... and we aim for this game to play a role in accelerating this shift."

Catan Studio, the developer and publisher of Catan games, isn't as explicit in its intentions with its new game. The phrase "climate change" doesn't show up in any of the Catan: New Energies' promotional materials, packaging, or rulebooks. "Pollution" is the catch-all term for the problem.

Teuber said they talked about adding the term but decided to focus on energy and presenting players with the option of fossil fuels or renewable. "We assume players will draw their own conclusions as they engage with the game," he said. The game's studio does note in its press materials that according to "evidence-based research and expert sources, [the] new game elements will get players thinking and talking about important issues."

A 2019 review of published research on board games and behavior by a team of Japanese researchers showed that "as a tool, board games can be expected to improve the understanding of knowledge, enhance interpersonal interactions among participants, and increase the motivation of participants." Though, it noted, the number of published studies on the topic is limited.

Dialogue from gameplay

"What games are really powerful at is starting dialogues," said Sam Illingworth, an associate professor of science communication at Edinburgh Napier University in the UK.

In the gaming world, there's a concept called the Magic Circle — a theory attributed to Johann Huizinga, a Dutch cultural historian, who in the 1930's posited that play creates a separate world with separate rules.

"It's the idea that we suspend disbelief on the gaming table," Illingworth said. "Like in the game Monopoly, it's perfectly good – strictly advisable – for me to want to bankrupt you, which is behavior that's morally repugnant away from the gaming table, but it means that those social hierarchies can break down and we can have conversations that we wouldn't normally be able to have."

In 2019, Illingworth co-designed a playable expansion to the original Catan that added climate change and sustainability to the gameplay. They called it Catan: Global Warming and posted the rules and instructions on how to adapt a regular Catan game online.

In the add-on, if players add too many greenhouse gasses, the whole island is destroyed and nobody wins. "So that creates a game state where psychologically there's obvious causality between actions and what happens, right?" Illingworth said. "So rather than just having a conversation about what might happen, you're actually experiencing it."

In Catan: New Energies, if pollution reaches too high a level to continue, the win goes to the person who built the most renewable energy power plants.

While workshopping the new game with colleagues, Teuber said they would often play too aggressively, aiming to "grow, grow, grow," they would build out fossil fuel power plants, he said. "We always manage to over pollute."

Test groups did the same. But after those games, the players would often come back and say, "We had heavy discussions afterwards," Teuber said. "We all felt kind of bad, we learned and thing or two, and the next game we played differently."

  • Settlers of Catan 3D Print/STL Files: 30 Best 3D Models

Spice up your game with 30 great Settlers of Catan STL files to 3D print, including cool customizations and stunning 3D-printed Catan pieces!

The Settlers of Catan, or simply Catan, is a beloved board game first published in 1995 in Germany. More than 25 years later, it now includes numerous expansions, a digital version, and has fans worldwide, with over  22 million copies in 30 different languages  sold.

Catan 3D  was a special 10th-anniversary edition featuring great-looking 3D resource tiles. It came, and went, in a flash, selling out nearly as fast as  Fallout’s Pip-Boy-Edition . Only 5,000 copies were produced, and they’re all long gone.

Nowadays, the 3D collector’s edition is only available on eBay, with prices ranging from $500 to $10,000. The 25th-anniversary edition is set to be released soon, but official sources haven’t reported that 3D tiles will be in this one. So, why not 3D print your own Catan 3D? Or at the very least, spice up your old board with some cool new customized or themed parts?

We know that makers REALLY love Catan, so fire up your printer and prepare yourself: We’ve compiled a list of the best Catan models out there. And the best part is you don’t have to pay for the design files: They’re all for free.

Now if you’re fan but find these models to be too much of a commitment, don’t fret! Try FacFox Cloud Service ! You can have the parts professionally printed and save all of your effort for establishing hegemony over Catan.

Let’s jump in!

HANDY & FUNCTIONAL

These are the models that should enhance the gameplay by providing extra organization during the game or speeding up the board set up so you can focus solely on your strategy.

Modular Card Holder

travel edition catan

This is a simple, yet useful modular cardholder to keep resource cards organized while you play. Each module is printed separately and either glued or bolted together (both options are available).

Do your OCD friends a favor and add this to your game night.

  • Who designed it?  3E8
  • How printable/popular is it?  So far this model has five makes posted by other Thingiverse users, usually printed with 10% infill and glued afterward.
  • Where to find it?  Thingiverse

travel edition catan

These 3D printed borders should keep all of the board’s tile pieces from slipping and popping out during the game.

The models were designed in inches, so depending on your  slicer , you might need to resize the model accordingly (25.4 times larger, to be exact).

  • Who designed it?  kellogg816
  • How printable/popular is it?  There are currently five makes posted by users that used either  PLA  or  PETG .

Box Insert Organizer

travel edition catan

Turn the box upside down or jostle it around, this organizer will keep all of the game’s pieces, tiles, and cards neatly inside the box.

This design is composed of several parts that are printed separately, mostly without supports.

  • Who designed it?  brettmcgin
  • How printable/popular is it?  There are three makes posted, but plenty of people claim to have successfully printed these models in the  commentary section .

In-Game Piece Holder

travel edition catan

This cool-looking piece holder will prevent you from dropping the smaller parts and spending five minutes looking for them on the floor mid-game. Also, say goodbye to counting pieces after the game: Simply place them on the holder to make sure everything is there, then call it a night.

The model was specially designed for the Cities & Knights expansion but should work with the regular base game too.

  • Who designed it?  Druppy
  • How printable/popular is it?  So far, there haven’t been any community prints posted, but the model has been downloaded over 740 times.
  • Where to find it?  MyMiniFactory

Catan Accessory Boxes

travel edition catan

Keeping your board pieces, plus expansions, a deck of cards, tokens, characters, and more, organized and safe, can be quite the challenge. So with this model, you can keep all your Catan utensils from getting lost or damaged.

It includes boxes or shelves for props, cards, numbers, and all-purpose boxes for any other item you can need. If you already have some organizing compartments you can choose to print only the ones you need. Or you can print them all.

  • Who designed it?  ricxvision
  • How printable/popular is it?  176 users have downloaded this model, and you can be the first one to share your own make of it. You can use dual printing to add the different colors in the labels.
  • Where to find it?  Cults

Magnetic Tile Holder

travel edition catan

It really doesn’t get much worse than spending 10 minutes sticking tiles together and then spending the rest of the game trying to keep them in place. This magnetic tile holder system is designed to keep the tiles from coming apart.

The original designer suggests using two shells and a 0.3-mm  layer height . Each piece requires six 1.5 x 3 mm magnets that are glued to the 3D printed parts.

  • Who designed it?  saiyanslayer
  • How printable/popular is it?  So far two different makes have been posted to Thingiverse, and some people had to resize their hexagons to fit their Catan tiles.

travel edition catan

These hexagon-shaped boxes are a great way to store all those pieces from the classic game and all of its expansions, as small bags often get ripped over time.

The snap-fit lids are a great addition. A bit of resizing might be required depending on how your 3D printer is  calibrated .

  • Who designed it?  mathgrrl
  • How printable/popular is it?  Six makes have been posted, mostly in PLA. There are also three remixes posted with some minor design changes.

COMPLETE SETS & EXPANSIONS

Here’s what most of you were probably looking for: entire Catan boards with tiles, tokens, and pieces. Most of them look prettier than the original, but some post-processing skills may be required.

travel edition catan

This is a complete three- to four-player set that can be printed with a single nozzle printer. It comprises all resource tiles and player pieces – settlements, cities, and roads – in different themes.

The quantities required for each part are displayed at the “Thing Details” tab, including the link to the official Catan cards in case one would like to purchase them.

  • Who designed it?   trevorclarke
  • How printable/popular is it?  This is quite a popular model, with over 30 shared makes and almost 70,000 downloads!

travel edition catan

This design is perhaps the most popular and stunning 3D printed Catan board of all time. While it was specially designed to be printed with  Prusa’s multi-material upgrade , it’s possible to print the parts separately and paint them before assembling.

It also includes a magnetic system to keep all of the tiles together. There are plenty of models, mods, and remixes available that are compatible with this design, including this cool looking  storage box .

  • Who designed it?  Dakanzla
  • How printable/popular is it?  Five users have posted pictures of their makes, and this gorgeous set has been downloaded over 6,000 times!

Cities & Knights & Seafarers

travel edition catan

These are the most popular Catan expansions, and thanks to this Maker, you can 3D print them yourself, with 3D details, and many colors, as many times as you want, and play the longest game in Catan history.

Since there are so many parts and small details, the creator has provided detailed instructions on what to print and how to assemble each one. You can print a part at once with multi-color printing, or print the parts separately and assemble them together, which the creator took into account in their design.

  • Who designed it?  MioPrint
  • How printable/popular is it?  There are 2 makes and 160 downloads. You can use multi-colored printing or go crazy with paint work!
  • Where to find it?  Printables

Five-Six Player Multicolor

travel edition catan

This is yet another awesome-looking board, and it offers the possibility of adding one or two players to the regular Catan game. Besides the water, each tile is unique, even those for the same resource, which is rather cool.

The thing about this board is that it requires a huge amount of magnets: 460 spherical 5.0-mm diameter magnets for the five- to six-player version (12 per resource tile).

  • Who designed it?  Mystik738
  • How printable/popular is it?  So far, nine different makes have been posted. Most were printed in PLA, then later handpainted.

Easier-to-Print Multicolor

travel edition catan

If you’re torn between the easy-to-print monocolor board and awesome multi-material ones, here’s the model for you. It’s based on the multicolored set above but can be printed with multiple colors by swapping the filament at pre-defined heights.

The author has provided all of the original  Tinkercad  files, making it possible to customize or slightly adjust the models.

  • Who designed it?  Hardcore3D
  • How printable/popular is it?  So far, no makes have been posted on Cults, but the model has been downloaded over 660 times.

Laser-Cut or CNC

travel edition catan

Just to change things up a bit, here’s a complete Catan board that can be made by  CNC router  or  laser cutting . It was designed by Glowforge, a laser cutter hardware manufacturer, but it’s open for everyone to download. Thingiverse user  Carlotta4th  made a few changes and reposted the design on the platform, as well.

Though the overall look of this board is quite different from the other sets on this list, it still looks pretty awesome and is a great alternative to 3D printing a complete board set.

  • Who designed it?  Glowforge
  • How printable/popular is it?  There are currently four makes and two different remixes posted on Thingiverse.
  • Where to find it?  Glowforge ,  Thingiverse

Oil Springs

travel edition catan

The settlers have discovered oil! This expansion set has everything you need to enhance your 3D printed Catan board based on the Oil Springs of Catan expansion, including the five- to six-player version. A PDF with the official instructions for this version is also provided.

  • Who designed it?  MDesigner423
  • How printable/popular is it?  Two makes have been posted, and both were handpainted (and look awesome).

Travel-sized Catan

travel edition catan

As you would expect for a travel set, it’s made to not occupy too much space and make it easy to play while on the move. It doesn’t have all the fancy 3D details other 3D printed sets have, but for a travel set, we need practicality over looks.

You can carry it in the box included with the models, and it also has a base to keep it all together while splayed out, so even playing on a setting like a train or a long car ride shouldn’t be impossible.

  • Who designed it?  Tarpon907
  • How printable/popular is it?  There are 75 downloads so far and no makes shared yet. It doesn’t include the card but the box has enough extra space to fit them.

MODS & THEMES

This category includes complete boards or different bits and pieces that either change the overall game mechanics or simply enhance its aesthetics.

Planet Catan

travel edition catan

This is a rather popular version of the game: the globe board. While there are a few  similar designs  on the internet, this one doesn’t require any special materials for assembly or countless magnets to hold the parts together.

Instead, it uses a polypanel system, which is a kind of snap-fit coupling mechanism that doesn’t require gluing. And the best part: No supports are required for 3D printing the parts.

  • Who designed it?  Rossero
  • How printable/popular is it?  Although there’s only one community print posted, this mod has been downloaded over 310 times.

travel edition catan

World of Warcraft fan  RecklessRobbie  has developed a full set of Catan tiles themed after this popular MMORPG game. According to the creator, there should be enough models for the five- to six-player version of the game, and the remaining pieces are still required, as only the resource tiles are provided.

All the different tiles were posted separately in Thingiverse, but they can be found on the creator’s page linked below.

  • Who designed it?  RecklessRobbie
  • How printable/popular is it?  There are almost 30 makes of the various models combined, mostly printed in PLA and handpainted.

Avatar TLA Tokens

travel edition catan

Catan is a classic game and  Avatar: The Last Airbender  is a classic cartoon – what better combination? Even more so when both of them are all about the world-building, in Catan’s case, quite literally.

With this Avatar Mod you can get fire nation temples, water tribe igloos, earth kingdom settlements, and air nomad temples. This way, you can bring the world of Avatar a little closer to real life, you can even choose what type of bender you want to be.

  • Who designed it?  Ghost42
  • How printable/popular is it?  This collection has 10 makes shared by users. It doesn’t need support or a dense infill. This, combined with how small they are mean you can print many at once and not spend too much time on it.

travel edition catan

Tired of the square-shaped settlements, cities, and roads from the original Catan set? These Roman-inspired pieces, which should be fairly quick and simple to print, will definitely refresh your old board.

  • Who designed it?  DeckedOutGames
  • How printable/popular is it?  No community prints have been posted so far, but the models have been downloaded almost 2,000 times.

travel edition catan

This awesome design was created by  MosaicManufacturing , the company responsible for the filament splice device  Palette . Naturally, it’s been designed to work with its  multi-material printing  device, but the tiles and pieces can be printed in different ways as well.

Catan in Space is an entire Catan board with a space exploration theme. While all resources differ from the original game, all files are provided, including a PDF for paper printing the cards. Detailed printing instructions are described on the Thingiverse page linked below.

  • Who designed it?  MosaicManufacturing
  • How printable/popular is it?  So far, four makes have been posted on Thingiverse.

travel edition catan

The rules for this unofficial version of the game for two players were first shared by  Shawn Rifraf on a Board Game Geek  forum, and not long after, the creator of the multicolor complete set (featured earlier on this list) provided the models for this mod.

While it was specifically designed to work with his board, this mod can definitely work with other 3D printed sets and even with the original game, as there are not many parts required.

  • How printable/popular is it?  Although the models have been downloaded over 420 times, no community prints have been posted thus far.

travel edition catan

Yet another complete Catan board, this Lego Catan board is not only themed after the famous construction toy but also works entirely with its pieces. This means that you can populate each tile with different Lego parts and pieces.

Don’t worry if your Lego pieces went missing: With more than 30 individual models, this design includes everything that’s required for playing.

  • Who designed it?  jcoehoorn
  • How printable/popular is it?  So far, no makes have been posted, but this theme has been downloaded over 300 times.

travel edition catan

This popular design is actually used by many complete 3D printed board sets that we’ve featured. The round pieces include roads, settlements, cities, and city walls for the Cities & Knights expansion.

  • Who designed it?  Popsicle_peon
  • How printable/popular is it?  There are 14 makes so far, mostly in PLA.

SPARE PARTS

Last but not least, the spare parts for those who want to remain true to their original Catan sets or simply want to replace a lost tile, piece, or card.

Number Tokens

travel edition catan

Small and round, number tokens are fairly easy to lose, yet they’re absolutely necessary to play the game (correctly). This design by  stockto  essentially reproduces the original tokens but with slotted dots and numbers.

While this can make the paint job much easier, there’s yet  another design  from Thingiverse user  rbschultz  where the numbers are extruded outwards, making it possible to swap the filament color at a given height.

  • Who designed it?  stockto  and  rbschultz
  • How printable/popular is it?  So far, four makes have been shared on Thingiverse but none have been posted on Cults.
  • Where to find it?  Cults  (numbers and dots),  Thingiverse  (numbers)

Harbor Tokens

travel edition catan

These cool-looking 3D harbors (or ports) are a great addition to an original Catan board or even a customized 3D printed one. All pieces come within the same  STL file  but can be separated in the slicer.

  • Who designed it?  stockto
  • How printable/popular is it?  So far, nine makes have been posted, mostly in PLA with 20% and 0.1-mm layer height.

Spare Settlement, Cities, & Roads

travel edition catan

This list wouldn’t be complete without the classic Catan pieces. Although many alternatives are included on this list, these models are by far the easiest to print. You can replace lost pieces or print entire sets in different colors.

  • Who designed it?  Erik
  • How printable/popular is it?  12 makes have been posted by Thingiverse users so far, including  5 remixes .

Development Cards

travel edition catan

Think of the development card set not so much as a single card replacement, but as the succession to the old worn-out, coffee-spilled original cards.

Each one is 1.8-mm thick and, according to the creator, can be printed using different colors by swapping the filament at 1.2 mm. The design includes all development cards: knights, progress, road building, bank, monopoly, and victory point.

  • Who designed it?  Locorico
  • How printable/popular is it?  So far, no makes have been posted on Cults, but the model has been downloaded over 125 times.

travel edition catan

Here’s a cool repurposed model that can be used as the infamous Catan robber. This might be a great opportunity for challenging your 3D printing skills, as this miniature is quite detailed.

For those printing with FDM, a good  3D printer calibration  would certainly be handy.

  • Who designed it?  jbkuma
  • How printable/popular is it?  So far, 21 makes have been posted, mostly in PLA but a  few resins prints  have been shared as well.

City, Settlement, & Bridge

travel edition catan

What to do if you lose some pieces? A tragedy! Or not. If you have a 3D printer pretty much nothing is ever doomed, as you can create new things from thin air.

With these models, you can replace or simply increase the number of city, settlement, and bridge parts you have. They get the job done for the purpose of playing the game and, more than that, they look very close to the real deal.

  • Who designed it?  Merandey
  • How printable/popular is it?  This model has 6 makes and around 450 downloads. It doesn’t need supports but a very fine printing layer will improve the resolution of the prints.

Longest Road & Army Trophy Cards

travel edition catan

Yes, we know: It’s rather hard to lose the big chunky “Longest Road” and “Largest Army” cards. Even still, it happens, and considering that there’s only one included with each board, both of these designs can surely come in handy.

Instead of cards, these models are more like small trophies and will definitely attract the envy of your opponents.

  • How printable/popular is it?  There are 12 and 10 makes posted for each model, respectively. The makes vary in terms of materials and layer height values.
  • Where to find it?  Thingiverse:  longest road  and  largest army

Moscow court rejects appeal to move to house arrest a deputy defense minister facing bribery charges

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

TALLINN, Estonia (AP) — A Moscow court rejected Wednesday an appeal filed by a Russian deputy defense minister's lawyers who sought to have him moved from prison to house arrest as he faces bribery charges.

Timur Ivanov , who was in charge of military construction projects, was arrested on April 23 and charged with accepting bribes on a large scale. After the hearing in Moscow City Court, Russian news agencies quoted his attorney Murad Musayev as saying the case involved allegations of about 1 billion rubles ($11 million) and that Ivanov has been suspended from duty.

Two other men have been arrested in the case.

It is rare for such a high-ranking official to be charged with a crime in Russia and it is unclear what sparked the decision to arrest him.

The team of late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny conducted anti-corruption investigations and accused Ivanov, an ally of Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, of living a lavish lifestyle.

Ivanov, 48, was sanctioned by both the United States and European Union in 2022 after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine .

Russian media reported that Ivanov oversaw some of the construction in Mariupol, a Ukrainian port city that was devastated by bombardment and occupied by Russian forces early in the war.

Zvezda, the official TV channel of the Russian military, reported in summer 2022 that the ministry was building an entire residential block in Mariupol and showed Ivanov inspecting construction sites and newly erected buildings.

Few other high-level officials have been prosecuted in Russia.

In April 2023, former Deputy Culture Minister Olga Yarilova was arrested and charged with embezzling more than 200 million rubles ($2.2 million). Yarilova, who held her post from 2018 to 2022, is on trial and facing a possible seven-year jail term.

Former Economics Minister Alexei Ulyukayev received an eight-year prison sentence in 2017 for accepting a $2 million bribe from one of Putin’s top associates. The high-profile trial was widely seen as part of infighting between Kremlin clans. Ulyukayev, now 68, was granted early release from prison in May 2022.

The federal government agency responsible for granting patents and trademarks is alerting thousands of filers whose private addresses were exposed following a second data spill in as many years. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) said in an email to affected trademark applicants this week that their private domicile address — which can include their home address — appeared in public records between August 23, 2023 and April 19, 2024. U.S. trademark law requires that applicants include a private address when filing their paperwork with the agency to prevent fraudulent trademark filings.

New Edition's Las Vegas residency is still going strong through 2024, though only a few tour dates remain. Luckily, the iconic music group has added additional tour dates and there are a few different ways to buy New Edition tickets.

New Edition began their residency at the Encore Theater in Las Vegas in February, with their stay ultimately being extended through November. After their original six shows, New Edition added two more legs for this year for a total of 10 more concert dates. Performing on their 2024 concert tour are group members Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronnie DeVoe, who sing their classic hits like "Candy Girl," "Cool It Now," and "If It Isn't Love."

If you're still looking for how to buy tickets to New Edition's concerts, we've got you covered. Here's our breakdown of the R&B group's tour schedule, purchasing details, and ticket prices. You can also browse tickets and show specifics on StubHub and Vivid Seats at your leisure.

New Edition 2024 tour schedule

All six members of New Edition are returning for the remainder of the group's Las Vegas residency, which kicks off on July 3. It features seven shows from July 3 to July 13 in Las Vegas, with the third leg picking back up for three additional concert dates in October and November.

The group is also appearing at the Cincinnati Music Festival in July.

All concert times are listed in local time zones.

How to buy tickets for New Edition's 2024 concert tour

You can buy original tickets for New Edition's 2024 Las Vegas residency concert dates and music festival appearance on Ticketmaster. However, since the residency extension shows went on sale in March 2024, the quantity of remaining original tickets is limited.

Tickets can also be purchased from verified resale vendors like StubHub and Vivid Seats . You may have better luck with the variety of seating options and availability on resale sites compared to the original tickets still left.

It's also important to note that New Edition's shows at the Encore Theater in Las Vegas only permit concertgoers ages 18 and up — so be sure to bring your ID to get into the group's residency performances.

How much are New Edition's tickets?

Given the high demand for the group's remaining Las Vegas residency shows, tickets to see New Edition in 2024 are relatively expensive. Furthermore, ticket prices vary depending on each show's concert date and demand. Resale ticket prices are comparable to or cheaper than original ticket costs.

The cheapest original ticket prices on Ticketmaster begin at $175 for New Edition's Las Vegas shows on October 30 and November 1. The least expensive seats are generally in the left or right mezzanine. However, most other dates with remaining original tickets are a bit more costly, with the cheapest seats coming in at over $200.

On the other hand, original one-day Saturday tickets for New Edition's Cincinnati Music Festival performance start at only $65. This ticket also lets you see artists like Kem, Stokley, En Vogue, and Coco Jones. Check out the full line-up here .

The least expensive resale tickets available to New Edition's Las Vegas residency on StubHub start at $165 for the group's July 5 performance. Vivid Seats offers similar prices for resale tickets, as the cheapest available Las Vegas show passes begin at $165. However, both sites' base fares are slightly more expensive than the $65 original tickets for the Cincinnati Music Festival, as StubHub's begin at $72 while Vivid Seats' start at $73.

Who is opening for New Edition's tour?

Currently, New Edition has not announced any upcoming international tour dates for their 2024 concert series.
