Riders from more than 166 Minnesota cities, 73 counties and 44 US states have participated in the event. Countless riders from across the state tell us each year that Tour de Tonka is "Minnesota’s Ride". Who Rides in Tour de Tonka “Bicycle riders participate in Tour de Tonka because it is pure fun,” Tim Litfin, Tour de Tonka Director, said. “All ages and all abilities– from families and recreational bicyclists to cycling teams and serious athletes can successfully ride and enjoy the beautiful scenery and be part of this highly organized event.” This is a ride for all riders and levels! You can choose from eight distances: 16, 30, 36, 47, 71 or 100 miles. Tour de Tonka’s routes move through 24 different west metro communities including Chanhassen, Chaska, Deephaven, Delano, Eden Prairie, Excelsior, Greenwood, Independence, Mayer, Minnetonka, Minnetrista, Mound, Navarre, New Germany, Norwood Young America, Orono, Plymouth, Shorewood, Spring Park, Tonka Bay, Victoria, Waconia, Watertown and Wayzata– all of which showcase beautiful roads, trails, and scenic views of Lake Minnetonka, Lake Waconia, Riley Lake, the Crow River, and many other area lakes. The rides leave in a mass start within minutes of each other, adding to a high level of excitement for this major event. All ride distances are fully supported ride with maps and SAG support. There are several rest stops along the way, where riders will enjoy food, hydration stations, music, rest and conversation. During the week of the event, watch the ride calendar and the Meetup group to coordinate groups if you would like to ride with fellow TCBC members. Note that as an Outreach Ride, there is no TCBC/LAB insurance coverage on this ride. However, TCBC members do get the mileage credit. Riders from more than 166 Minnesota cities, 73 counties and 42 states have participated in the event. Countless riders from across the state tell us each year that Tour de Tonka is Minnesota’s Ride.

Who Rides in Tour de Tonka

“Bicycle riders participate in Tour de Tonka because it is pure fun,” Tim Litfin, Tour de Tonka Director, said. “All ages and all abilities– from families and recreational bicyclists to cycling teams and serious athletes can successfully ride and enjoy the beautiful scenery and be part of this highly organized event.”

A Benefit for the Community

Tour de Tonka partners with the ICA Food Shelf to give participants an opportunity to make an impact with their ride. A portion of each rider’s registration fee is donated to the ICA. Since 2006, Tour de Tonka has raised over $83,000 to support the ICA. Riders can also donate money or non-perishable food items on or before the day of the ride. Remaining proceeds support Minnetonka Community Youth Education and Early Childhood Programs.

    The 16th annual Tour de Tonka will be Saturday, Aug. 7. This year, there will be seven routes and the rides will range from 16 to 100 miles. Including all seven routes, the ride goes through 21 cities. The ride is a mass start, where riders for each particular distance start simultaneously.
