5 Spots Every Fan of ‘The Office’ Must Visit in Scranton, PA
We’re not just fans of “The Office”. We’re borderline-obsessed, know-every-quote, watch-it-constantly superfans. So, when we road-tripped out to the Poconos for a long weekend with our family in November, it only made sense that we would visit the city where the show was based.
Unlike one of our other favorite shows, Parks & Recreation – another Greg Daniels/Michael Schur masterpiece – “The Office” is set in a real city: Scranton, Pennsylvania.
As I’ve learned from the Office Ladies podcast , the directors took great care to ensure the show remained authentic to its Scranton setting.
They even went as far as picking up local props (fliers, products, stickers, magnets, restaurant menus and more) to decorate the background of the Dunder Mifflin Scranton set.
Remember that Froggy 101 sticker on Dwight’s desk? Yep, that’s a real radio station in Scranton. What about the club soda featured throughout the show? That was from the Crystal Soda Water Co., a family-run business in Scranton.
These little nods to the former coal town make the show feel like it was really filmed there (despite occasionally seeing palm trees in the background of the driving scenes).
Of course, there are also the more memorable and recognizable Scranton locales featured on “The Office”, including:
- Alfredo’s Pizza Café (not to be confused with the vastly inferior Pizza by Alfredo, which is fictional)
Cooper’s Seafood House
Poor richard’s pub.
- The Marketplace at Steamtown (aka the Steamtown Mall)
- Penn Paper tower
We visited these spots and share all the details below – including which ones were surprisingly awesome and which were sort of meh. Plus, don’t miss our bonus “The Office” locations at the end of the blog!
Now, let’s get this party started!
Alfredo’s Pizza Café
1040 s. washington ave..
We all remember the argument in season 4’s “Launch Party” (or should I say “Lunch Party”?) about Alfredo’s Pizza Café versus Pizza by Alfredo. And while the latter is fictional, I can confidently attest to the delicious taste of a pepperoni slice from Alfredo’s Pizza Café.
It’s no wonder the employees were peeved at Michael for ordering the wrong pizza! Even its menu reminds you: It’s “home to ‘the good pizza’ as seen on The Office”.
During your tour of Scranton, be sure to add Alfredo’s to your list. It’s the perfect lunch spot, with plenty of options for everyone. Beyond pizza, they serve salads, wraps, burgers, subs, pasta, steak, seafood and more.
701 N. Washington Ave.
The “business/romantic” Cooper’s Seafood House was mentioned several times in the show, but was featured most prominently in season 5’s “Business Ethics” episode. Though the interior scenes were filmed in Los Angeles, the exterior shot was actually filmed on-site at the real Cooper’s.
Truthfully, I was most excited about visiting Cooper’s during our Scranton tour – not because of the food, but because it’s the only place in Scranton (surprisingly) that boasts a huge collection of “The Office” merchandise. You better believe we left with a bag full of totally necessary merch.
Plus, Cooper’s houses some incredible pop culture memorabilia, so even if you’re not a fan of “The Office”, you’ll have fun wandering the halls and marveling at all the treasures of yesteryear.
125 Beech St.
A favorite of the employees of Dunder Mifflin, Poor Richard’s is mentioned and featured in many episodes, most notably in “Cocktails”, “Local Ad”, “St. Patrick’s Day” and “A.A.R.M.” – the second-to-last episode of the series, in which the office employees head to the dive bar to watch the official airing of the documentary.
Unless you listen to the Office Ladies podcast or live in the Scranton area, it may come as a surprise that the real Poor Richard’s Pub is located inside a bowling alley (South Side Bowl). If you want any Poor Richard’s swaaaaaaag, be sure to stop in the bowling alley, where they have T-shirts and hoodies for sale.
The Marketplace at Steamtown
300 lackawanna ave..
Nobody loves the Steamtown Mall more than Kelly Kapoor. So, when Michael Scott takes the ladies to the mall in season 3’s “Women’s Appreciation”, it’s a dream come true for Kelly.
Mike and I, however, didn’t get as much enjoyment out of our visit to The Marketplace at Steamtown. Beyond the lure of its mention on “The Office”, there wasn’t anything extraordinary about it.
There is one benefit of visiting, though. It’s where the “Scranton Welcomes You” sign is located. The sign, which you see in the intro of each episode, was moved to the mall after causing too much disruption on the road – due to people stopping to take pictures with it.
Now on the second floor of the mall, the sign sits on AstroTurf in front of a printed screen of Scranton. Not quite the same as if it were outside, but it’s still a good photo op for “The Office” superfans!
Penn Paper Tower
215 vine st..
Even if you used to skip the intro on Netflix, the iconic image of the Dunder Mifflin tower still made its way onto your screen.
The first shot shown in the intro was apparently filmed by John Krasinski (Jim Halpert) during one of his early trips to Scranton, according to the Office Ladies. The footage made its way into the intro, becoming the backdrop to one of TV’s most recognizable theme songs.
The tower – actually home to the family-owned Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Company – isn’t far from The Marketplace at Steamtown, so you can walk there to take in the scenery, or drive if you’re pressed for time.
I love that the tower still features the Dunder Mifflin logo, even eight years after the show last aired!
Bonus “The Office” Locales
Electric city sign, 507 linden st. .
They call it Scranton! What?! The Electric City!
Even though this spot wasn’t featured in the show, it’s still a must-see for “The Office” fans. The sign lights up Scranton’s skyline at night, but even during the day, it will surely remind you of Michael’s “Lazy Scranton” employee orientation song.
Electric City Mural, Central Scranton Expressway on/off ramp exit off I-81
Keep your eyes open for this easy-to-miss mural off the highway. It’s not really a must-see, but it’s worth snapping a photo as you drive by.
Lake Wallenpaupack, 2512 Route 6 Ste 1 Hawley, PA
It’s a booze cruise!
Located just 40 minutes from Scranton is the famous Lake Wallenpaupack, where season 2’s “Booze Cruise” is set. If you have some time to spare, be sure to check it out. The lake is beautiful, and there’s a trail around it that offers scenic views – perfect for couples or families.
Scranton Business Park, Chandler Valley Center Studios, 13927 Saticoy St, Panorama City, CA
California? That’s a far way from Scranton.
OK, OK. This is by no means close to Scranton, but I had to include it! Before we got to see the real-life “The Office” locales, we stopped by the set for a quick photo while we were visiting LA .
And there you have it! While I wouldn’t recommend driving cross-country just to visit these spots, if you’re in the Poconos or surrounding area for a long weekend, add an afternoon in Scranton to your list.
If you can squeeze it in, you won’t regret it…

In the episode that Jim purchased his parents house for him & Pam without her knowing…. In the yard was the real estate sign for the reality company I worked for at that time. They really went out if their way to make the show feel authentic. And we all in the area would be like “oooh snap they just mentioned ” 😁
Wow! That’s so cool!! I love all the little details that went into making the show feel like it really was filmed in Scranton.
You need to update your location list to include the huge Dwight mural at On&On Antiques. I can email you a photo is you like. It’s a must see!

Omg yes please!! How did we not know about this?! Please share with us: [email protected] – thanks for your comment! 🤗
My family owns coopers and my Dad and uncles were really excited when they were approached about shooting for an episode at our restaurant. I took the day off from my job and sat at the bar from morning until night hoping to make into a background shot because we didn’t know if they were going to do interior or exterior shots. I found out they had come and gone after shooting only exterior shots, and I needed a ride home after sitting at the bar for 8 hours on a weekday. It was really cool to see my family’s restaurant on national TV, but unfortunately ticket to stardom didn’t come through.
That’s so awesome! Wow, what a legacy! Too bad you weren’t featured, but it makes for a great story 😄 Have you guys noticed an increase in business because of the show? I’m always so curious about that. Also, I just want to say that we LOVED the gift shop!
Love this list! Thank you so much. Planning a trip to the Poconos this summer, and absolutely must hit up Scranton!!!!
We’re so glad you found it helpful!!
I love this!! I live in central Indiana, and I am going to my graduation commencement at SNHU this May. We are driving so I reserved an overnight stay at Scranton on the way to Boston. We won’t have too much time there, but we are hitting up a lot of these locations on this article. Thank you!
That’s awesome!! I’m thrilled the article was helpful 🙂 An overnight stay should give you plenty of time to check out all these must-sees. But if you have to prioritize, I would say definitely go to Alfredo’s for pizza (ask the staff at the front desk if you can take a picture holding the “original” Alfredo’s pizza box!), snap some pictures of the Penn Paper tower, then check out the gift shop at Cooper’s. Have fun!!
Have made the journey to Scranton from Australia (via Canada)… I’ll be using this list tomorrow!!
Yay!! So glad it’ll be helpful on your trip! Enjoy every minute and definitely get some pizza at Alfredo’s 😊

Love these “lady-ies” 😜😍!!
This is such a fun podcast! You feel like you’re sitting down in their living room just hanging out and hearing amazing stories and random info about your favorite show! You’ll learn real life stories about the actors, behind the scenes details about the show, and (because of the awesome deep dives) you may come away learning about a penis museum or how people used to revive drowning victims in England with some special “anal intervention “ 😝🤪. This show is educational, uplifting, and always entertaining! Must listen!
Please never stop going on tangents, I love them. I love the random deep dives, the tangents, the research that yall do. NEVER STOP THE TANGENTS! Most of us love them!
Chill out, Jenna
Jenna’s relentless attempt at revisionist history because she can’t accept that fans dislike her later seasons’ character arc is becoming insufferable. Stop trying to elevate Pam’s status by knocking down Jim’s character because you got stuck with a poorly written character that didn’t land with the audience.

The Office BFFs: Tales of The Office from Two Best Friends Who Were There Hardcover – May 17, 2022
Purchase options and add-ons.
INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * One of Esquire 's Best Celebrity Memoirs of All Time
An intimate, behind-the-scenes, richly illustrated celebration of beloved The Office co-stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey’s friendship, and an insiders' view of Pam Beesly, Angela Martin, and the iconic TV show. Featuring many of their never-before-seen photos.
Receptionist Pam Beesly and accountant Angela Martin had very little in common when they toiled together at Scranton’s Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. But, in reality, the two bonded in their very first days on set and, over the nine seasons of the series’ run, built a friendship that transcended the show and continues to this day. Sharing everything from what it was like in the early days as the show struggled to gain traction, to walking their first red carpet—plus exclusive stories on the making of milestone episodes and how their lives changed when they became moms— The Office BFFs is full of the same warm and friendly tone Jenna and Angela have brought to their Office Ladies podcast.

Editorial Reviews
As seen on The Today Show, Live with Kelly and Ryan, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and more. —
“’The Office BFFs: Tales of the Office from Two Best Friends Who Were There’ is an enjoyable complement to the series, filled with behind the scenes anecdotes that help explain what made NBC’s hit click. … If there’s any lesson to be learned from the show’s nine-season run and this book, it’s that a lot of teamwork goes into making an office look this dysfunctional.” — Associated Press
“Bound to have you giggling… Heart = warmed.” — The Skimm
"Reading the book makes you feel like you're out to lunch (at The Ivy, if we can get a patio table!) listening to your two close friends gab. And it's clear those two friends have such warm regards for their show, their cast and crew, and each other." — Mashable
“Can you think of a better gift for The Office lover in your life (even if it’s you?)” — AV Club
A smart, sweet look from inside The Office about how the show spawned enduring friendships and unexpected careers. — Kirkus Reviews

First Lady of Nigeria Oluremi Tinubu Denies Claims She Dissed Meghan Markle’s ‘Dressing’ During Tour
- Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below
First Lady of Nigeria Oluremi Tinubu has clarified her comments about Meghan Markle , denying she was upset by the duchess’ wardrobe on her recent official tour.
“She meant Meghan appreciates the people we are and hence her coming here,” Tinubu’s office told AFP Fact Check via email on Friday, May 31. “At no point did she say anything about Meghan’s dressing.”
Meghan, 42, and husband Prince Harry visited Nigeria earlier in May. As part of the couple’s packed itinerary, Meghan appeared on a panel discussing women in leadership and praised her heritage. (Meghan recently discovered her own Nigerian ancestry.)
“I think, being African-American, part of it is not really knowing so much about your genealogy, background, where you came from specifically,” Meghan said on May 10, also noting that she felt that she could relate to the young Nigerian women she met during the engagements. “It was exciting … to discover more and what that [having Nigerian heritage] really means.”

Days later, Oluremi, 63, addressed Meghan’s remarks while celebrating her husband Bola Tinubu ’s first year in office. According to social media footage, Oluremi warned young Nigerian women against dressing inappropriately and mimicking “film stars from America” who “don’t know where they came from.” Moments later, Oluremi said that Meghan visited Nigeria “looking for Africa” to understand her identity.
In the speech, Oluremi did not directly call Meghan — who rose to fame as an actor, retiring in 2018 when she married Harry, now 39 — one of the American “film stars.”
Meghan has not publicly addressed Oluremi’s comments or the controversy surrounding the presumed snub.
How Meghan Markle Has Ditched ‘Classic Tropes’ of Royal Fashion: She Has This ‘Rich Mom Thing Going On’
The Nigeria tour had been Meghan and Harry’s first time visiting the African country, during which Meghan did her own glam.
“I feel like when I’m not with her, she has more room to play,” Daniel Martin , who previously handled the Duchess of Sussex’s wedding day makeup, exclusively told Us Weekly in May. “I think that’s the fun thing when you see her, like, she’s in Nigeria right now. It’s just her. There’s no stylist, there’s no hairdresser. She’s doing everything herself and she’s so good at it.”
According to Martin, Meghan is “so good” at doing her own makeup and she loves adding blush and big brows to her look.
During the visit, Meghan stepped out in various dresses, skirts and pantsuits. At one point, she even re-wore the same yellow frock from her son Prince Archie’s 1st birthday party. Meghan, who also shares daughter Princess Lilibet with Harry, had initially showed off the dress in celebratory footage from her Harry & Meghan Netflix docuseries.

Jennifer Lopez’s Canceled Tour, and Society’s Twisted Pleasure in Seeing Strong Women Fail

For a variety of reasons, one of the biggest stories in entertainment this year has been the precarious state of Jennifer Lopez ’s “This Is Me… Now” tour, which was finally put out of its misery yesterday.

The state of generative ai in hollywood: a special report, professional bull riders splits media rights between cbs, dr. phil's merit street media, popular on variety.
Just a few days earlier, another major act canceled their own overly ambitious North American tour that was scheduled to hit many of the same arenas that J-Lo’s was — the male rock duo the Black Keys. After that news broke, people asked what that said about the state of the touring business.
But when J. Lo canceled her tour just days later, people asked what it says about her.
As a society, why do we do that?
Broadly speaking, the reasons for both cancellations are the same: An artist past their commercial prime makes an overly optimistic projection about the response to their new project, gets it wrong, and pays the price — as do their partners in the enterprise, from promoters and venues down to dancers and truck drivers, because it takes a village to put on a tour of that size, and literally hundreds of people’s livelihoods are affected by those cancelations (which is something conveniently forgotten in the thinly veiled glee much of the public seems to take in such missteps).
Granted, the pop audience that J-Lo is targeting is very different from the more-loyal, less-fickle rock fans the Black Keys were aiming at. The pop world that J-Lo inhabits has the attention span of a smart fish and is infamously unforgiving of perceived transgressions, which can span from intentional factors — like a romantic partner who fans decide they don’t like — to unintended ones like, say, a multifaceted, self-absorbed autobiographical project by someone who famously is not the world’s kindest or most gracious superstar. For all her Bronx toughness and swagger, J-Lo has always been a pop artist and she knows that game and everything that comes with it.
But fame and power put people at a remove from reality, and it’s ultimately irrelevant whether everyone in her orbit also thought this project and tour were a great idea, or whether no one dared to say, “Hey, after the disastrous failure of ‘Gigli’” — the dreadful 2003 Affleck-Lopez film that not only destroyed the pair as a commercial property, but also helped tank the first era of their relationship — “maybe reviving Bennifer as a commercial enterprise isn’t a great idea?” The end result was the same: a canceled tour and a stiff album. Artists make similar miscalculations every year.
Yet the online venom and hateration that has surrounded the failure of this enterprise has been epic in scale. The term schadenfreude — a combination of the German nouns Schaden, meaning “damage” or “harm,” and Freude, meaning “joy,” per Merriam-Webster — means taking pleasure, often illogical pleasure, in others’ misfortune. And while men certainly can be victims of it — does anyone remember Martin Shkreli and his unusually punchable face ? — society certainly seems to reserve the worst of its venom for powerful, successful, talented women.
It’s a matter of public record that women’s rights are under ferocious attack, from Iran, Afghanistan and Russia to the United States and our arguably corrupt Supreme Court, multiple state governments and even Benedictine College’s commencement . But the hate isn’t coming exclusively from men. At a certain point, we decide we don’t like a public figure anymore without really knowing — or at least without consciously thinking about — why.
Except subconsciously, it’s probably not that deep. Sometimes we just don’t like or get tired of someone’s face (cf. Shkreli, who never had a chance), sometimes we resent their success, sometimes we also resent their happiness, or at least their seeming flaunting of it. In the wider public eye, J-Lo seems to have run afoul of the latter two, and the rumors that she and Affleck may be separating after less than two years of marriage seem an almost inevitable final act before a (probably equally inevitable) redemption chapter, after everyone finally realizes how unfair they were (cf. Britney Spears).
This is a road that Beyonce also went down at the peak of her career. She (apparently) shared the challenges that her own marriage was facing — and intensified her already-deep connection with her audience — in the lyrics of her galvanizing “Lemonade” album and tour… but then made a sort of happy-ending follow-up with her 2018 duet album with husband Jay-Z, “Everything Is Love,” which landed well initially but in retrospect is self-indulgent, treacly and awkwardly self-congratulatory: It’s just hard to have much empathy for two near-billionaires singing about how difficult it was coming through the fire. Their ruling status — and the fact that people are genuinely afraid of their fanbases — enabled them to dodge the storm that usually follows such hubris.
J-Lo, as we’re seeing, hasn’t dodged those bullets. At 54, she’s at a tricky point in a pop star career: Hit singles for artists at that age are as rare as Bigfoot sightings — Cher’s “Believe” and Kylie Minogue’s “Padam Padam,” the two main examples that come to mind, were released more than a quarter-century apart — and only generationally defining stars with enormous catalogs of hits, like Paul McCartney, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel can tour arenas into retirement age. What’s missing from that category? Women. Most of the top-grossing female touring artists — Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Pink — are under 45. The only one who isn’t, Madonna, at 65 played to some middling audiences on her just-completed, mostly triumphant “Celebration” tour, as well as an estimated 1.6 million people at the final concert in Brazil. She’s weathered all of the above storms — and then some — and come out on top, but it’s taken hurricane-force, once-in-a-generation level of determination (and probably has taken quite a personal toll as well).
Variety pursued the reports of J. Lo’s poor ticket sales — and those of the Black Keys and others —aggressively, not for reasons of schadenfreude but because such stories are important in our corner of the media world, and it’s a sad fact of our business that bad news gets a lot more clicks than good news. Her fans swarmed on us, which comes with the turf, but the stories were hugely successful. As it does every time schadenfreude piles up on a female public figure, I was reminded of something: During the heyday of Lena Dunham’s TV series “Girls,” there was a video meme — or whatever passed for a meme in 2012 — of young women making comical, snarky opinions about show, with one of them saying, “I’ve never seen it… but I think I don’t like it.”
It was a joke, but still, that statement seems like a sadly perfect distillation of the amount of thought, let alone logic, that goes into the kind of hateration that J. Lo and so many other female public figures are receiving right now. It’s also not hard to imagine that syndrome playing a major role in many other successful women being brought down a peg after a majority of people decide they just don’t like her, not least the defeat of Hillary Clinton by her unapologetically misogynist opponent in 2016.
J. Lo is a great artist and she will be fine, and she’s clearly tough enough to weather all of this. But why should she have to? There’s obviously more going on here than just a canceled tour, and it does make one wonder whether the guilty pleasure of schadenfreude and our role in furthering it is a problem that goes beyond a few “harmless” clicks.

'The Office' Follow-Up Series Is Titled 'The Paper': Everything We Know
The upcoming follow-up to the popular NBC comedy will follow the employees at a Midwestern newspaper -- here's everything we know.
The Office follow-up series is in very early stages, but we now know a little more about what's to come.
In May 2024, Peacock announced that they had picked the show up to series. The new comedy -- from The Office adapter Greg Daniels and Nathan for You co-creator Michael Koman -- will be a new mockumentary series set in the same universe as The Office , with the on-screen camera crew focusing this time on "a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters."
According to Daniels' bio on the Writers Guild of America website, the upcoming series will be titled The Paper.
"It's been more than ten years since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock," said NBCUniversal Entertainment president Lisa Katz in a press release about the new series. "In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper."
The original U.S. version of The Office -- itself inspired by the British comedy created by and starring Ricky Gervais -- ran for nine seasons, from 2005-2013. Over the course of its run, it was nominated for 42 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning five, including Outstanding Comedy Series for season 2.
The series has enjoyed continued popularity on streaming, with Nielsen annually reporting it as one of the most streamed TV shows. In fact, the show broke a streaming record in 2020, tallying 57.1 billion minutes of viewership. (The record was later broken in 2023, with viewers clocking 57.7 billion minutes of Suits .)
Here's everything we know about the possible follow-up series:

Star Wars star Domhnall Gleeson and Italian actress Sabrina Impacciatore -- best known for her role on season 2 of The White Lotus -- were the first members of the new cast to be announced, in April 2024.
Of course, it's always possible that some of the original cast might make cameos, leaving room for appearances from Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, B.J. Novak, Jenna Fischer, Mindy Kaling, Leslie David Baker, Melora Hardin, Kate Flannery, Brian Baumgartner, Ed Helms, Oscar Nuñez, Craig Robinson, Angela Kinsey, Creed Bratton and more.
PRODUCTION & PREMIERE DATE
The new series is set to begin production in July 2024, with details about a possible premiere date still to come.
The Office is currently streaming on Peacock.
