S.O.S. Tour

SZA is bringing her S.O.S. Tour to Chase Center on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023 with special guest d4vd! The 2023 tour follows SZA’s hugely successful sophomore album, SOS, which was released in December and earned the superstar the record for the largest streaming week for an R&B album in the United States. The album also claimed ten non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart - the most among albums by women in seven years. During the first run of the S.O.S. Tour earlier this year, SZA gave unforgettable performances night after night. The platinum recording artist performed classics like “Love Galore” and “The Weekend” in addition to newer mega-hits such as “Kill Bill,” and “Shirt.” Fans also got to experience special performances from a number of surprise guests including Phoebe Bridgers, Cardi B, Summer Walker, Lizzo and more. The S.O.S. Tour marked SZA’s first-ever arena tour and earned the superstar endless praise, with Rolling Stone noting that “SZA lives up to all the anticipation” on opening night. The New York Times called her Madison Square Garden headlining debut “vigorous, confident, theatrical and intimate — the sort of show that manages the rare trick of feeling both vibrantly communicative and also protectively insular,” while Billboard proclaimed that the performance “delivered a message that she’s truly made a next-level step in her career.

Born in St. Louis and raised in Maplewood, NJ, genre-defying, and GRAMMY Award winning recording artist SZA released her major label debut album Ctrl (TDE/RCA) in 2017. Revered for its raw and honest lyrics, it landed at No. 1 on Billboard ’s R&B Albums chart, No. 2 on the R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart and No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, according to Nielsen Music. The now RIAA-certified 3xPlatinum album received five Grammy nominations in 2018 and more than half the songs on Ctrl are currently certified multi-Platinum and Gold. Ctrl remains on the Billboard 200 chart since its release in 2017 and holds the record for the longest run for any Black female artist’s debut album. In 2022 alone it sold over 600,000 units and is the 10th best-selling female album this year in the country and 50th best-selling album in 2022 overall.

SZA has won various awards since the release of Ctrl including a 2022 GRAMMY Award for Best Pop Dou/Group Performance for “Kiss Me More” with Doja Cat, Billboard Music Awards’ Top R&B Female Artist, BET Awards’ Best New Artist, BET Soul Train Awards’ Best R&B/Soul Female Artist and Best New Artist, MTV Video Music Awards’ Best Visual Effects for the “All The Stars” with Kendrick Lamar, and NAACP Image Awards’ Outstanding New Artist. In 2019, she won NAACP Image Awards’ Outstanding Duo or Group for “All The Stars” with Kendrick Lamar and Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation for the Black Panther Soundtrack . SZA also received Billboard’s 2019 Women in Music Rule Breaker award.

To this day, SZA continues to set the standard on creativity and songwriting, while shattering records with over 7.2 billion streams worldwide across all platforms. To close out the trying year of 2020, SZA gifted fans on Christmas Day with the hopeful track “Good Days.” Grammy-nominated for Best R&B Song, the single quickly became SZA’s greatest gainer solo single release, peaking at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and marking her first time in the chart’s top ten as the main artist. December 2021, SZA scored her second lead artist top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart with the official release of “I Hate U,” which debuted at #7. The song also entered at #1 on both Spotify and Apple Music US charts and broke the record for the most streamed R&B song by a female artist on Apple Music in its first week.  “Shirt,” her most recent single has garnered over 60 million streams globally since its release in October. SZA’s long-awaited new album SOS includes features by Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Phoebe Bridgers and Ol’ Dirty Bastard; with production by Ctrl hitmaking collaborators ThankGod4Cody and Carter Lang, alongside Jeff Bhasker, Rob Bisel, Benny Blanco, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Emile Haynie, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Jay Versace, and more.

SZA Extends ‘SOS’ North American Arena Tour Through Fall 2023

  • By Jon Blistein

Jon Blistein

SZA has extended her North American tour in support of her celebrated new album, SOS . Earlier this year, the singer completed 17 shows for her first-ever arena tour between February and March. Now, she’s plotting her return with 21 additional dates scheduled for this fall.

The R&B star will pick up where she left off on Sept. 20 in Miami and close out the second leg of the tour on Oct. 29 in Phoenix. The new shows include stops in Brooklyn, Toronto, Newark, Houston, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and more.

Tickets for all new shows will go on sale this Friday, April 14 at 12 p.m. local time. Full details are available on SZA’s website .

SZA released SOS on Friday, Dec. 9, five years after the arrival of her celebrated 2017 debut, Ctrl . The 23-track album featured an array of collaborators , including Travis Scott, Don Tolliver, and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, as well as a cameo from Phoebe Bridgers on “Ghost In the Machine.”

The results are in: kendrick lamar won the great rap war, why grown-ass women love the idea of 'the idea of you', steve albini, noise rock pioneer and 'in utero' engineer, dead at 61.

Of getting SZA to “talk her shit,” as he put it, on those songs, Versace said, “I believe that spiritually our ancestors, the people around us, they can use us spiritually for whatever we’re trying to convey. I feel like that’s something that she wanted to do. I feel, even though I was telling her to talk her shit, I feel like that was something that she wanted to do too. I feel like she never really got the chance to really do that.”

SZA’s “SOS Tour” Sets Sail at Madison Square Garden: Review and Setlist

The "SOS Tour" featured two spectacular performances in New York City

SZA’s “SOS Tour” Sets Sail at Madison Square Garden: Review and Setlist

If SZA was the main character in a movie about a woman who, say, gets stranded alone at sea, the end scene would likely find her blissfully embracing her new solitude. But such isolation is hard to come by when you’ve built a career off sleek R&B delineating heartache and insecurities with a razor-sharp bite, finding company with the girls who ask: “Would you still love me if I was a worm?”

We can infer this about SZA because we hear SZA. It’s no wonder pop’s most notorious introvert took five years to follow up her instant-classic debut Ctrl with the equally astonishing – if not more so – SOS . Back when she was touring the former album in 2017, she played to a crowd of 1,200 at New York’s Irving Plaza. Now on her “SOS Tour” (find remaining tickets here ), she’s sold out two consecutive nights at Madison Square Garden, a feat that now seems inevitable to us considering how much SZA’s star has grown – and stayed bright – during the years in-between.

But if SZA was nervous ahead of her second show at the Garden on March 5th, she certainly didn’t show it. After an energetic opening set from Omar Apollo (whose dexterity in his own diverse pop mirrors that of SZA’s), the evening’s main attraction appeared onstage to replicate the Princess Diana-inspired artwork for SOS , sitting at the edge of a diving board surrounded by screens that created her ocean. And then – in some technical trickery that words can’t quite explain – SZA leapt into the water, and the opening credits of this “movie” flash across the backdrop.

For a woman who loves being in her own company, SZA has a remarkable knack for commanding a crowd of thousands. Obviously, she’s also a lover of film – “Kill Bill” and “Gone Girl” appear in the SOS tracklist, after all – and throughout the night, her maximalist, maritime-themed stage production was stunning enough to give Tarantino and Fincher some ideas.

The show is split up into three main acts: On a boat; shipwrecked in the middle of the ocean; underwater. It takes a lot to fill up the visual space of Madison Square Garden, but rest assured: Whether she’s laying like a mermaid to belt “Drew Barrymore” or effortlessly joining in on her backup dancers’ choreography, SZA is the captain of this ship. She both looked and sounded fantastic, keeping her audience completely engaged for the duration of the show.

Despite no surprise visits from Cardi B or Phoebe Bridgers, the setlist of SZA’s second night at Madison Square Garden reminds us just how exceptional her small discography is. The evening included performances of nearly every song on SOS and a handful of Ctrl highlights, along with renditions of her Kendrick Lamar collaboration “All the Stars” and her Doja Cat duet “Kiss Me More.” The exclusion of “Ghost in the Machine” was palpable, especially with Bridgers having made an appearance the night before, but the setlist otherwise prompted no low points in the evening’s energy.

12 Stars Who Didn't Attend the 2024 Met Gala — and Why

From Taylor Swift to Rihanna, see some of the A-listers who skipped this year's Met Gala

Alexandra Schonfeld is a features writer at PEOPLE. She has been working at PEOPLE since April 2022. Her work previously appeared in Newsweek .

The 2024 Met Gala was packed with haute couture and household names, but a few key faces were missing from this year’s high-fashion fête.

Regular Gala-goers like Rihanna , Blake Lively and Katy Perry skipped out on “The Garden of Time” theme for a number of reasons, ranging from busy work schedules to a case of the flu. Some typically coordinated couples didn’t step out at all, while other pairs only sent one partner to the Manhattan museum.

Find out why Ben Affleck wasn’t dressed up alongside Jennifer Lopez , what kept Taylor Swift from the Met steps and more reasons why stylish stars opted out of fashion’s big night.

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic

The “Umbrella” singer was a no-show on the Met steps this year. After the carpet ended and the Gala began behind closed doors, PEOPLE exclusively revealed that Rihanna skipped the event after falling ill .

A source shared that the flu kept the style star from continuing her strong streak of memorable Met Gala ensembles , many of which she's rocked alongside her longtime partner A$AP Rocky , who was also absent from the soirée.

Taylor Swift

Larry Busacca/Getty

Shortly before the first Monday in May, PEOPLE confirmed Taylor Swift would not be at the annual fashion function in N.Y.C. Instead, the 14-time Grammy winner was locked into rehearsals as she prepares to continue her iconic Eras Tour in Europe starting this week and spanning until summer. Swift made her last Met Gala appearance as a bleach-blonde co-chair in 2016.

Blake Lively

Getty Images

Met Gala mainstay Blake Lively didn’t make an appearance at this year’s party, much to the disappointment of fans looking to see the stylish star dressing to this year’s theme, “The Garden of Time.” Over the years, the Gossip Girl alumna has reigned as one of the most anticipated faces on the Met Gala carpet with consistently glamorous getups and gowns . In 2022, she co-chaired the event and channeled her city spirit in a color-changing dress inspired by the Statue of Liberty .

Brittany & Patrick Mahomes

Brittany Mahomes / Instagram

Brittany and Patrick Mahomes didn’t return to the Metropolitan Museum of Art following their first appearance at the Gala last year . But a few days before this year’s event, the couple was seen some states south of New York enjoying sun and fun at the F1 Miami Grand Prix , where they hung out with Patrick’s teammate Travis Kelce .

Ben Affleck

Gary Miller/WireImage

Co-chair Jennifer Lopez glittered in a crystal-covered naked dress on fashion’s biggest night of the year, but her husband Ben Affleck was nowhere to be seen. A rep for the actor confirmed to PEOPLE that the actor was busy filming his latest project, The Accountant 2, in Los Angeles.

Though it has been a few years since Lady Gaga ’s last Met Gala appearance, her 2019 entrance at “ Camp: Notes on Fashion ” is hard to forget. She rocked not one, not two, not three, but four different looks during her walk up the stairs, which started with a voluminous pink cape and ended in lingerie.

While this was not the year, the superstar has left quite the high bar for whenever she does choose to return to the Gala. Just a few days before fashion’s biggest night, Gaga shared a short clip to Instagram along with the caption “🖤🎼💋music is not work I’m so lucky.”

Travis Barker & Kourtney Kardashian

Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian made their Met Gala debut in 2022, a year before the pair tied the knot in 2023. After skipping last year’s party as well, the two were absent again this year after sharing in recent days that they've been vacationing in the Bahamas .

Rabbani and Solimene Photography/WireImage

After missing last year’s Gala, Katy Perry was also a no-show this year, but that didn’t keep fans from dreaming up what she would’ve worn to fit the “Garden of Time” theme. Even the singer herself got in on the fun, sharing a viral AI-generated image of her wearing a floral, fairytale-inspired gown at the event. “Couldn’t make it to the MET, had to work,” she captioned her Instagram post.

Perry, whose last appearance was at the 2022 event, has been busy with all things American Idol in recent weeks though after dressing as a cheeseburger and chandelier in years past we wish we could have seen what she would have whipped up this year.

Chrissy Teigen

As the stars were making their way down the red carpet at this year’s Met Gala, Chrissy Teigen shared a photo to her Instagram Story of herself wearing a foam neck brace along with the caption “@ the Met!” A few slides later she clarified that she’s “fine” but is wearing the brace after she “tried to do a headstand.”

She went on to say that the injury was not the reason she wasn’t walking the red carpet, explaining that she “was never going to the Met this year.”

Teigen last hit the carpet with husband John Legend in 2017.

Gisele Bündchen

A Met Gala mainstay, Gisele Bündchen was another regular who skipped this year.

"She's busy with her family down in Miami," a source told PEOPLE . "She has a totally full life and she's very busy with her kids."

The supermodel had frequently attended with husband Tom Brady through the years; following their divorce, she made a stunning solo appearance in 2023.

How to get tickets for Olivia Rodrigo’s 2024 Melbourne tour: presale, prices and everything you need to know

Good for us! Olivia Rodrigo is bringing her Guts World Tour to Melbourne, Australia

Ashleigh Hastings

Fire up the group chat, because Melbourne’s year of the big name musical girlies just popped off even more! We kicked off 2024 with appearances from her highness Taylor Swift , followed by a recent royal visit from SZA . Just last week Billie Eilish revealed a massive Aussie tour, and now we’re feeling all kinds of ‘deja vu’ thanks to a fresh announcement from pop princess Olivia Rodrigo.

Now is the time to dig your converse out of your wardrobe and your youthful angst up from the depths of your heart, because Olivia Rodrigo is officially bringing her Guts World Tour to Melbourne in spring 2024. Ticket sales start soon and missing out would be a bad idea, right? Here’s all the information you need.

When is Olivia Rodrigo going on her Melbourne, Australia tour 2024?

Olivia Rodrigo will start the Australian leg of her Guts World Tour with two shows in Melbourne on Wednesday, October 9 and Thursday, October 10. Both shows will take place at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena .

When do Olivia Rodrigo tickets go on sale?

General ticket sales start at 1pm local time on Thursday, May 16 via Ticketek . Punters have already noticed there’s a bit of time between Rodrigo’s Melbourne and Sydney shows, so we’ve got our fingers crossed that more dates could be announced.

Is there a presale?

Judging from how wildly popular Ms Rodrigo’s music has become, the fight for tickets is guaranteed to get ‘brutal’. We recommend signing up for presale to avoid ending up in a state of ‘jealousy, jealousy’ towards those who scored tix. Your presale options are the Amex presale from Monday, May 13 at 12pm, the Live Nation presale on Wednesday, May 15 at 1pm, and the My Ticketek presale which starts at the same time as Live Nation.

How much will tickets cost for Olivia Rodrigo’s Australian tour?

Ticket prices haven’t yet been revealed, but we’ll update this story as soon as we know. For reference, London tickets can currently be found starting from $123.

Who is the support for Olivia Rodrigo’s Australian shows?

New Zealand singer-songwriter Benee will be warming up the crowd for Olivia Rodrigo’s Rod Laver Arena shows. She’s best known for her TikTok viral tune ‘Supalonely’.

When else is Olivia Rodrigo playing as part of her 2025 Australian tour?

Rodrigo will also perform at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on Thursday, October 17 and Friday, October 18. Currently, those are the only Australian dates she’s announced – sorry to the rest of Oz!
