Good to know about SIMcards and eSIMs

How do i get the bali simcard or esim, order online, choose your internet package , and get connected in bali with a reliable and affordable internet package :.

Order eSIM card (no physical SIMcard needed), immediately activated upon arrival, no IMEI registration needed, top-up and payments conveniently online.

What is an eSIM card?

An eSIM Card (embedded SIM) is a type of SIM card that is embedded directly into a device, rather than being a physically removable card. eSIMs are becoming increasingly popular in smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other mobile devices.

eSIMs work in the same way as traditional SIM cards, but they offer several advantages.

  • One of the main benefits of eSIMs is that they allow users to switch between different mobile network operators without having to physically change their SIM card. This can be done by updating the device’s settings or by downloading a new profile from the mobile network operator.
  • Another advantage of eSIMs is that they are more secure than traditional SIM cards, as they cannot be physically removed or replaced without the device owner’s knowledge. This makes eSIMs less susceptible to SIM-swapping attacks, where a hacker takes control of a phone number by replacing the SIM card without the user’s knowledge.
  • eSIMs also help device manufacturers to design more compact and lightweight devices , as the need for a SIM card slot is eliminated. This makes them more convenient for users and also make the device design more simple.

Activating your device

First, ensure that your device supports eSIMs before attempting to use one. eSIMs are digital SIM cards that have been adopted as a standard by carriers all over the globe including Indonesia. iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and later models support eSIM. iPhone 14 devices sold in the United States do not have a SIM tray and can only use eSIM.

The next step is for the user to activate the eSIM , which can be done either by scanning a QR code provided by the mobile network operator or by entering a code provided to them via text message. In order to use the device normally, the user must first activate the eSIM before connecting to the mobile network.

What data package should I get for the Bali SIMCARD?

Naturally, this is dependent on how long you intend to stay and how “active” you want to be with your mobile data. If you don’t intend to stream movies or watch a lot of YouTube but still want to stay connected and use map and transportation apps, stay online on Whatsapp or Telegram, and check your emails, we recommend 3-5GB per week.

Price Box linked to BikagoMobile:

Why do we recommend getting a BikagoMobile SIMcard?

We’ve been keeping an eye on the tourist SIM card market for a while now, and we’re still irritated by it. When we first started out, our only goal was to educate consumers about available choices; we weren’t affiliated with any service providers or resellers.

Why? There is so much hassle involved in trying to get connected at the airport: many of the resellers who have little booths outside the arrival hall are overpriced or not transparent, many offer sloppy service because it’s super rushed, waiting in line takes forever, data packages cannot be topped off if necessary, and there is no afterservice if something is unclear.

We put BIKAGO and everything they have to offer to the test. We were so impressed that we decided to make BIKAGO our premium partner. We’ve known their teams for a long time. FINALLY! With the most reliable service in Bali and inexpensive data plans, the BIKAGO Mobile SIMCARD is the hassle-free product you’ve been searching for. If you value reliability and convenience, we recommend ordering the Bikago SIMcard before arriving at the airport.

Easy, transparent, reliable and hassle free!!! Order your SIMCARD / eSIM online.

Picked up my Sim card at the airport and installed it in Slot2 and followed the instructions given and it would not activate. As soon as I placed the Sim into Slot1 activation was instant. I would recommend Pelago to would be travelers as it was so much cheaper than was was being offered elsewhere in Bali.

This was perfect & was worried from the reviews but I think they did not follow the instructions. Once I bought I wrote to the number on WhatsApp, they gave me a link with instruction. I uploaded my items and then I arrived in Bali and meet the people with sim card. I put this in the phone I registered and it worked in minutes. Then I used it all over Bali no problem even across on Nusa Penida.

Extremely easy. The guy was waiting just outside the airport with sims. The network was smooth. Highly recommended

Definitely one of the cheapest. Get it from here. Airport was selling around 100-500k idr at least. If you’re planning to just use it mostly for Google maps and light google searching 7GB is more than enough for 1 week. (Assuming you’ve booked your tours/arrangements prior). Process is super simple and easy: 1) prior to arrival - send a WhatsApp of all the details required (passport etc), & inform thhem of your flight eta & flight number and date. 2) Collection was simple. Exited the arrival exit, after all the shops, with all the drivers holding up signs, head towards the end, (like an L shape) right just before the end of the exit / entry into the carpark - you’ll see a person holding a Klook orange sign. 3) you can’t do the setup there (and you can set it up yourself, but it’s nth actually). Simply put in the new SIM card in. Once you go onto WhatsApp. It should prompt you for some 18 digit and a 8/10 digit number located on the sticker. Key those in. Try to finish the registration, and it should work. If you can’t get it through. Just exit the registration. It should work actually.

Nusa Dua Day Trip: Ultimate One-Day Itinerary

Last Updated on June 20, 2024

Kieren Windsor

Hi, I’m Kieren, a full-time blogger from the UK. Bali’s become my home from home after spending 10+ months visiting every corner of the island. Every photo on this blog was taken by us during our travels!

As affiliates, we may earn a commission on any qualifying purchase at no extra cost to you – read more .

Nusa Dua is a luxurious resort town on Bali’s Bukit Peninsula. It’s home to pristine white sand beaches with clear, calm waters that make it a popular spot among families.

While Nusa Dua is known for its upscale hotels and resorts, you don’t need to stay overnight to enjoy the highlights as we’ll share in this Nusa Dua day trip itinerary.

Quick Summary

sim card for bali travel

How To Use This Itinerary

Once you arrive in Nusa Dua, we’ve ensured that everything on this itinerary is walkable. The activities included below are all less than 10 minutes on foot from one another.

With this in mind, we don’t recommend hiring a private driver for the full day as you won’t get the full benefit. Instead, consider taking a Grab or Gojek (online taxis) to get there and back.

This itinerary can also be done using your own transportation, provided you have the correct licence. See our tips for renting a scooter in Bali for more information.

sim card for bali travel

While you don’t HAVE to pre-book any of the activities we’ve suggested, you can get a big discount on the Devdan Show ( book here ) and a small discount on Museum Pasifika ( book here ) by booking ahead.

One of the itinerary highlights is the Devdan show which only runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Take this into account when planning your trip.

Travel Times To Nusa Dua

Don’t worry about an early start for this itinerary as you’ll be out well into the evening. Aim to leave mid-morning.

Here are the travel times from different areas (accounting for average traffic):

Nusa Dua One-Day Itinerary

This itinerary centres around the main area of Nusa Dua (known as the ITDC) which is a gated resort. While anyone can visit for free, expect to pass by security on your way in.

11.30am – Museum Pacifika

sim card for bali travel

When you first in Nusa Dua, head straight to Museum Pasifika. This modern gallery is home to Asia’s largest collection of Asia-Pacific artwork.

Museum Pacifika holds over 600 artworks by 200 artists from 25 different countries. The one thing all of the artists have in common is that they all lived in the Asia Pacific and were inspired by the region in their work.

You can see paintings and sculptures by established Indonesian artists, such as Balinese painter Nyoman Gunarsa and Javanese artist Raden Saleh, as well as many European artists who lived and worked in Indonesia. All artists have used the region’s culture, people, and landscapes as inspirations for their work.

sim card for bali travel

Other exhibits include indigenous art from Oceania and many exotic paintings from Japan, China, and India.

We’re not usually huge art gallery people, but we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Museum Pasifika, with its huge range of artistic styles and focus on the amazing cultural diversity of the region.

Tickets to Museum Pasifika cost 100,000 IDR per adult and come with a free audio guide you can scan on your phone. We recommend spending around 45 minutes to 1 hour at the museum.

Book Here: Museum Pasifika Tickets (slightly cheaper than tickets on the door)

12.30pm – Lunch at Kekeb Restaurant

sim card for bali travel

Around a 10 minute walk from the museum is Kekeb Restaurant, a cute and colourful beachfront spot with plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the ocean.

They serve an all-day menu of tasty and authentic Balinese food. Their speciality is meat and seafood skewers brought out to your table on a mini BBQ grill.

1.30pm – Dharma Island and Peninsula Island

sim card for bali travel

Nusa Dua translates as “two islands,” a reference to the two small islands that you’ll be able to see from your lunch restaurant. Despite being called islands, they are connected to the mainland and easy to reach by foot. Take a stroll around them to walk off your lunch.

Begin with the tiny Dharma Island on the left, home to a peaceful garden and a small Hindu temple. It offers some lovely views over the ocean and surrounding bays.

After this, head to the slightly larger Peninsula Island. This ‘island’ is mostly parkland with a lovely circular walking route centred around a large statue of Krishna and Arjuna.

sim card for bali travel

On Peninsular Island, you’ll find the iconic Nusa Dua Water Blow. This is an amazing natural phenomenon where the waves crash through a hole in the volcanic rock and surge high into the air, reaching crazy heights of up to 30 meters.

At high tide, the mighty waves soak everyone in the area – a refreshing way to cool down from the intense Bali heat. The Water Blow now has a 25,000 IDR fee to enter (cash only).

The Nusa Dua Water Blow doesn’t always “blow.” During our visit, it wasn’t particularly impressive. It’s best to go at high tide and always ask at the ticket booth what the waves are like – they’ll be honest with you if it’s not worth visiting. If the tide is out, don’t waste your money.

2.30pm – Afternoon at Mengiat Beach

sim card for bali travel

The two islands you just visited sit at the northern end of Mengiat Beach, a long stretch of pristine white sand beach that makes an excellent place to spend an afternoon relaxing in the sun.

The water in the bay is extremely clear and the waves are calm, making it a great place to swim or snorkel.

Mengiat Beach is where you’ll find many of Nusa Dua’s most luxurious hotels and resorts, so some sunbeds near the northern end are reserved for their guests.

Wander a little further down the beach along the promenade and you’ll find plenty of loungers for general hire. Or you claim a spot for yourself on the sand.

If you’d rather sit at the back of the beach and enjoy a cocktail or two, we’re also big fans of the Ayodya Beach Club and Grill ( here ), with plenty of colourful seating overlooking the sand.

5pm – Shopping & Dinner at The Bali Collection

sim card for bali travel

After a relaxing afternoon, head to The Bali Collection, a spacious outdoor shopping and entertainment complex in Nusa Dua. This is around a 10 minute walk from Mengiat Beach.

Set amongst a lush green park, the mall is home to a variety of shops, market traders, restaurants, and bars.

You can shop many local and international brands, including Levis, Nike, Billabong, and 69 Slam. There’s also a large Balinese arts market where you can grab local souvenirs without needing to barter.

But for us, the highlight of the Bali Collection had to be its many beautiful restaurants and bars, with lovely al fresco seating areas and live acoustic music most nights of the week.

We recommend grabbing dinner from Nusa By/Suka where you can enjoy a delicious menu of pasta, pizzas, and meats cooked on their wood-fired grill.

7.15pm – Devdan Show (starts at 7.30pm)

sim card for bali travel

Finish your day by watching the Devdan Show at Nusa Dua Theatre, just around the corner from the Bali Collection. This is one of the best cultural performances we’ve seen in Bali.

The mesmerising production showcases the diverse cultures of Indonesia, taking you on a journey through the islands of Bali, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, and Papua.

The show features a dynamic blend of traditional and modern dance, breathtaking acrobatics, and state-of-the-art special effects. There are vibrant costumes, amazing props, pyrotechnics, water performances, illusions, and so much more!

As mentioned earlier, the Devdan Show only runs every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday evening. The show starts at 7.30pm, so aim to arrive around 7.15pm to get your seat.

sim card for bali travel

The performance lasts just over an hour, but allow additional time for a photo opportunity with the performers outside afterward – a fantastic keep-sake from your time in Bali!

There are four categories of tickets to choose from which vary in price; VIP, A, B, and C. The VIP ticket simply gets you a comfortable armchair. But to be honest, you don’t really need it for an hour-long show.

We got the Category C side-view tickets and ended up just a few rows away from the stage with a fantastic view! But on busier days, we’d suggest A or B.

While tickets are available on the official website and at the door, the cheapest option is to buy them on Klook . We got our tickets on Klook a couple of days before the show for just 190,000 IDR each, as opposed to 300,000 IDR at the door.

Book Now: Devdan Show at Nusa Dua Theatre

Getting Home

Traffic should be more manageable at this time of day, so you’ll get home a little faster.

Here are the estimated arrival times assuming you leave Nusa Dua around 9pm.

Other Activities

If you’re looking to extend your day or make some alterations to the itinerary, here are a few more activities in the area to consider:

Watersports – Just north of Nusa Dua is the Tanjung Peninsula, known as Bali’s watersports hub. You can enjoy a huge range of exciting water sports activities, including surfing, snorkelling, scuba, jet skiing, waterskiing, banana boats, flying fish, parasailing, and more – book here .

sim card for bali travel

Balinese Cooking Class – If you’d like to try your hand at cooking up some traditional Balinese dishes, Nusa Dua has a few cooking classes to choose from. Bumbu Bali holds classes every Wednesday while Kekeb Cooking School (from Kekeb Restaurant where we recommended having lunch) offers daily classes from Monday to Saturday.

Your guide to a romantic getaway in Bali for 10 days

My trip to Bali was a spontaneous decision, spurred by cheap tickets! I’ve been to Bali twice: once as a kid with my family, and more recently when I was just getting to know my partner. Bali is super special to me because it’s where my partner asked me to be his girlfriend.

So, follow along if you’d like an itinerary that’s cute, romantic, and fun. Beyond that, Bali is one of those places you can enjoy with anyone—friends, family, or even strangers. This itinerary can easily be adapted to suit a trip with family or friends.

Bali, Indonesia

I flew budget airlines from Bangkok to Bali with just 7kg of baggage for a week, and trust me, it was enough. If you’re traveling on an Indian passport, make sure to check your visa requirements. I arrived in Bali in the middle of the night, and since getting to the main areas from the airport takes 1-2 hours, I booked a stay nearby to unwind for the night.

As soon as I reached Bali, I purchased a SIM card at the airport. I hadn’t booked a tour or drivers beforehand, so here’s what I did to get around Bali: Two-wheelers aren’t really my thing, and although I can drive a car, I didn’t want to. So, I hired the first Grab driver I met, and for a few extra bucks, he became our driver for the entire week!

Bali, Indonesia

Rising early, we enjoyed a free breakfast at the hotel and then checked into Aryaswara Villa Ubud , a luxurious resort in the heart of Ubud. Surrounded by lush tropical landscapes, it felt like we were staying in the middle of a forest.

Our first stop was a tea and coffee tasting, including the famous Luwak coffee. Then, we visited the sacred Pura Tirta Empul temple. Next, we headed to Alas Harum Bali for the thrilling Bali Swing experience, where we swung over lush jungles and rice terraces, perfect for Instagram photos. Pro tip: you can rent flowy dresses there for the perfect shot!

Afterward, we trekked to Leke Leke waterfall, a hidden gem in Bali’s lush jungles. The scenic trek through tropical forests, crossing bamboo bridges and streams, was absolutely beautiful and worth the visit.

In the evening, we went to Creteya Ubud, a fun restaurant and day club with huge pools. We spent the evening there with drinks and food, enjoying the sunset with a view of the rice fields. It was the perfect way to end the day.

Bali, Indonesia

We started the next day super early at 3 am with a jeep tour to Mount Batur, the only tour we booked for our Bali trip. Pro tip: opt for the jeep tour instead of the hike, unless you’re keen on hiking. The hike starts at 1:30 am in pitch darkness, and the descent can be scorching by 8 am. Save your energy for other treks and hikes in Bali.

Mount Batur, an active volcano in the Kintamani District, offered a stunning sunrise view. At the top, we were served a simple breakfast of toast and poached eggs, cooked using the volcano’s steam. We also bought cute elephant bracelets from local vendors—a great souvenir.

After descending around 7 am, we visited the nearby black lava fields, which offer a stark contrast to Bali’s lush greenery. The rugged terrain and volcanic rocks are mesmerizing. We followed this with a quick dip at a hot spring before returning to Aryaswara Villa. The hotel staff kindly packed our missed breakfast, which we enjoyed as brunch upon our return.

After an afternoon nap, we headed to the Ubud Monkey Forest in the evening. Taking selfies with the monkeys was a fun experience, but be cautious as they can snatch things from you!

The area is also great for shopping and cute cafes. We grabbed dinner nearby and called it a day.

Bali, Indonesia

The next day, we checked out and drove to East Bali early in the morning. Our first stop was the Tukad Cepung waterfall, a hidden gem nestled within a lush canyon in Sidemen. After a short hike, we were greeted by sunlight filtering through the canyon, creating a magical display of light and shadow against the cascading waterfall—a perfect spot for Instagram pictures.

Next, we headed to Lempuyang Temple for the famous Gate of Heaven. Be prepared for a “my whole life has been a lie” moment because the iconic photos you’ve seen are an illusion created by a camera trick to mimic water. Plus, you’ll have to wait over 3 hours for a photo. It’s overrated, in my opinion, but if you want a similar picture without the wait, keep reading.

We then visited Tirta Gangga, the water palace. Built in the 20th century by the royal family of Karangasem, the palace features ornate pools, fountains, and lush gardens adorned with statues and Balinese architecture. It’s a lovely place to stroll around and enjoy lunch.

Our most anticipated stay was next: Hideout Bali . These unique, secluded accommodations amidst Bali’s natural beauty are perfect for glamping in the jungle or rice fields. The eco-friendly bamboo houses provide a serene retreat away from the city’s hustle and bustle. The stay itself was romantic and dreamy. We spent the evening by a bonfire, dipping our legs in the river next to our room, and enjoying traditional tuak (a drink made from fermented palm sap or rice). We spent one night here before checking out the next day and heading to Kusamba port to get our tickets to Nusa Penida, bidding farewell to our Grab driver.

Bali, Indonesia

By the time we arrived in Nusa Penida, it was already 5 pm. At the port, we quickly found a driver to take us around the island for the next two days. We checked into our accommodation, a charming little hut at Batan Sabo .

In the evening, we enjoyed dinner at Greenkubu Cafe, a delightful cafe with an amazing view of the sea and the mountains. Here’s where it gets interesting: we found a replica of the Gate of Heaven with the exact same background and zero waiting time. We had the spot to ourselves and took as many pictures as we wanted. If you’re considering skipping the original Gate of Heaven, this is your go-to place.

Bali, Indonesia

The next day, we started early with a visit to Crystal Bay Beach, a popular snorkeling and diving spot on Nusa Penida. After a quick stroll, we headed to Angel’s Billabong and Broken Beach. Angel’s Billabong is a natural tide pool with crystal-clear waters, perfect for swimming and enjoying the stunning cliffs and rock formations. Broken Beach, or Pasih Uug, features a natural archway carved out of the cliffside, offering breathtaking views of the turquoise sea below. While both spots were amazing, they were also super crowded and hot, so plan accordingly.

Next, we went to Kelingking Beach. Many people take photos of the dramatic cliffs and viewpoints and leave, but if you skip the trek to the white sand beaches below, you’re missing out! The trek is a bit challenging, and I was out of breath many times, but it was so worth it once we reached the beach. By the time we climbed back up, we were exhausted and muddy, so we decided to call it a day.

Bali, Indonesia

The next day, we checked out after breakfast and headed to our next stay in Nusa Penida called Malibu Huts . It was a cute little accommodation on the eastern side of the island, closer to Diamond Beach. After bidding farewell to our Nusa Penida driver, we rented a bike and rode to Diamond Beach early in the morning. There was no crowd, and it was amazing to have the place to ourselves.

A short ride from Diamond Beach took us to the Tree House (Rumah Pohon). Getting there required a 20-30 minute trek, but it was relatively easy. Perched atop a cliff, the rustic treehouse offers a unique vantage point for capturing stunning sunset or sunrise shots against the backdrop of the ocean. While there is an entrance fee, arriving early allowed us to skip the lines for photos.

Bali, Indonesia

We checked out early and took a ferry ride back to the city, arriving this time in Kuta. We stayed at the amazing Amnaya Resort Kuta , which even offered a candlelight breakfast. The rooms were exceptional, providing the perfect place to unwind.

In the afternoon, we relaxed at the hotel and then headed out to party in the evening. We enjoyed an exciting pool party at Finns Beach Club, followed by dinner and drinks at La Favela and The Goat. We also recommend trying the traditional Babi Guling, a spit-roasted suckling pig seasoned with aromatic spices and herbs.

After partying until dawn, we returned to the hotel to get some much-needed rest.

Bali, Indonesia

On our last day in Bali, we planned to relax before heading back home. We had reservations at The Edge , a luxurious cliff-top resort in Uluwatu known for its stunning architecture, infinity pool, and fine dining. The Edge provided us with an unforgettable dining experience overlooking the Indian Ocean, where we enjoyed gourmet cuisine crafted from the finest local and imported ingredients. It was a wonderfully relaxing day filled with delicious food and swimming. I recommend calling ahead to book if you plan to visit.

In the evening, we took a Grab to see the Kecak Dance at Uluwatu Temple. This traditional Balinese dance, accompanied by a chorus of chanting men, tells the story of the Hindu epic Ramayana. The performance, set against a fiery sunset and crashing waves, created a magical and unforgettable experience. It was the perfect way to end our Bali trip!

Bali, Indonesia

After a candlelit breakfast at Amnaya Resort Kuta, we boarded our flights back home. Bali is such a beautiful place, and we’ve made so many fond memories here. It’s one of those destinations I would definitely visit again.

Bali has been on my travel bucket list for a while now and when an RTC offer came up last Summer, I knew I had to book it! The offer was for 10 nights B&B in Kuta Beach Club (formally Sol by Melia) and 2 Sharing it was £1350pp or £1499 for a solo traveller. As I’m based in the South, even with the conversion from Sterling to Euro, the offer was incredible value so I booked it for myself and my boyfriend for our Summer holiday.

I’d never been to Bali before and TikTok became my tour guide in the lead-up to the holiday. I was able to search the area we were staying to get 100s of different recommendations and I was also able to utilise the Rory’s Travel Club Members Only Facebook Page for more tips and tricks from other members who’d been to Bali. Personally, for our holidays, we like to be a bit laid back so while we made a list of things we’d like to do, we had nothing booked and were happy to go with the flow a bit and book when we arrived for any activities we’d in mind and this worked out in our favour.

Airport transfers were included in our package and we struck gold with our driver - he WhatsApp’d us to let us know where he’d be waiting for us and prepared us a little for how crazy the transfer line was but to just ignore the shouting taxi drivers and to head to the end where he was standing. He texted to let us know he’d stop off on the way to the hotel to get a SIM card for our phones if we wanted as the wait times in the airport could be crazy long. Once we were in the car, we got chatting and he let us know that he was also a tour guide and would send us his prices. Now while nearly every airport transfer is also a tour guide of some sort, Punji was so lovely and not pushing anything on us.

Once we checked into the hotel, we were greeted with a welcome drink and the friendliest staff I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting in a hotel. We were brought down to our room which was at the bottom of the pool and informed of the key information such as breakfast times, ordering taxis etc. Given our long travelling day, we decided to get food and did the only thing that felt right and headed to McDonalds before back to the hotel to crash.

Our first morning we headed to get breakfast and we were in for a treat. We weren’t sure what to expect given a South Asian breakfast is very different to a typical Irish fry up and we were pleasantly surprised by the food options. They had your usual continental breakfast bar with pastries and local cakes, an incredible fruit bar, and an egg station where the staff would make up any style of egg you liked alongside the hot food which was a mixture of Asian dishes such as noodles, sweet and sour chicken and more typical Western breakfast items such as beans, fried tomatoes and beef or chicken sausages. For any bacon lovers, this particular hotel didn’t offer it however other places did.

After breakfast, we decide to take things easy and head to the pool. The Bali sun is intense so we were head to toe in Factor 50 as my practically see-through skin was not able for it. There are plenty of sun loungers around the pool and you’re provided with a towel from the staff member on duty. Also dotted around the pool were some large umbrellas so you had the option of being in the shade or not. There were two pools, the larger pool with a swim up bar and the smaller pool which while you might think was a kid's pool was actually the deeper of the two. There was also a small hot tub area as well. The pool bar offered a range of drinks and you could also order food to be delivered to where you were sitting or else head into the main bar if you preferred. There was happy hour from 4pm - 6pm with a select number of drinks being 2 for 1 which we took advantage of throughout the week.

The hotel is in an ideal location as it was on a small road with a number of shops and just around the corner was the main street with plenty of bars, restaurants, nightclubs and so much more. Despite such a busy street being a stones throw away, once you were in the hotel, you could’ve been in the middle of nowhere as you didn’t hear anything beyond the four walls. Given the location, it also eliminated the need of taxis most nights as everything was in walking distance.

Most nights we headed out to the main street for dinner and were spoilt for choice. Any and every type of restaurant was available and there wasn’t one night where we had a bad meal. The value for money was incredible and the most expensive meal we had was a shared starter, 2 steaks, 2 beer/cocktails for approximately €35/£30. You could get a cheaper dinner but you didn’t lose out on quality or value for money. For anyone that is Coeliac or Vegetarian/Vegan, you equally have plenty of food options in the majority of restaurants around.

For things to do in Bali, you’re only limited by the time you have to do them and your imagination. There’s is absolutely something for everyone from thrill seekers to culture vultures and everything in between. We did a mix of traditional activities and physical activities. Through Punji we booked our tours which included pick up and drop off from out hotel and he doubled as our photographer at any opportunity he could. Below are the activities we did over the 10 days. Anything we did, really was incredible value for money as the transfers with Bali traffic, we could be an hour + in the car and the experiences were quite long so you couldn’t question you go your money’s worth

Breakfast with the Orangutans & Elephant Mud Fun - approx €80/£75

We were picked up at 7am and brought to Bali Zoo for an incredible buffet breakfast. While at breakfast the Organutans were around us and you could go up to see them and take photos with them. While you couldn’t touch them and it was an amazing experience to get up close to them and the breakfast was phenomenal. After breakfast, we headed to the Elephant enclosure for the Mud Fun. This was 2 hours of washing and playing with the rescued elephants. Part of the experience was preparing food for them and feeding them before we climbed into the pool to cover them in mud to protect their skin from the heat and bugs and then washing them down. Once the experience was over, we were able to shower and a buffet lunch was also included.

ATV Ride and White Water Rafting - approx €80/£75

Another early morning we headed to Ubud which is the more jungle part of Bali. Once we arrived at the centre were were greeted with a refreshing welcome drink before being shown how to work the ATVs (quad bikes) We then headed off on a 2 hour ride around the rice fields and into the jungle area where we drove through caves and a waterfall. We then got back to the centre for lunch before heading down to the White water rafting centre. We got ourselves ready in our helmets and lifejackets and headed off to the river. Our guide made us feel very safe and was great craic and really made the trip. The rafting was a grade 2 so nothing too intense but good fun all the same. We were able to stop off at a waterfall for photos and also for drinks along the way.

If Bali isn’t somewhere you considered before I hope this convinces you to get it onto your travel bucket list. While it’s a long flight to get there (Dublin to Doha 6hrs, Doha to Bali 8/9hrs) it is incredibly worth it. It’s an incredible country with the friendliest people, incredible food and so much to do.

Bali Vacations—29 Must-Know Tips Before You Go

W elcome to Bali, Indonesia’s most famous island. Known for its volcanic scenery, rice terraces, vibrant arts scene, and numerous temples, it’s a place where traditional and modern life coexist. Bali vacations bring millions of travelers from all over the world every year.

Bali Vacations—What To Know Before You Go

Whether partying on Kuta beach , unwinding in Seminyak or Nusa Dua, or finding your dharma in Ubud, there’s something for every traveler in Bali. If you’re a family, going on your honeymoon, or just want to unwind with daily massages and great food, these are 29 must-know Bali travel tips before you go.

Tip 1: Understand Balinese Culture

Balinese culture is deeply influenced by Hinduism . When visiting temples, wear a sarong and sash, which are often provided. Respect religious ceremonies and processions and avoid walking in front of people praying.

Tip 2: Know Your Temple Etiquette

At Hindu temples, women on their menstrual cycle are advised not to enter. Also, avoid touching sacred objects or structures.

15 Best Books To Read Before Visiting Europe

Tip 3: get jabbed.

Bali has a tropical climate, so protecting against mosquito-borne diseases like dengue fever is essential. Before traveling, check if any vaccinations are recommended or required.

Tip 4: Buy Travel Insurance

Ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, theft, and unexpected trip changes. If you plan on doing anything a little risky like jet skis, hang gliding, extreme sports, riding a motorbike, or any adventure activities, double-check (then triple-check) that you are covered by your insurance if you have an accident.

Tip 5: Stay Hydrated and Sun-Safe

One of the major drawcards of a trip to Bali is its tropical climate, but the downside is that it’s also easy to get sunburnt. Avoid sunstroke and dehydration by staying hydrated, in the shade as much as possible, and slap on 50+ SPF sunscreen multiple times throughout the day.

Tip 6: Don’t Drink the Tap Water

Only drink bottled water, and that includes brushing your teeth. Nobody wants to be hugging the toilet bowl while they’re supposed to be enjoying themselves.

Tip 7: Take Taxis, but Don’t Get Taken for a Ride

Meter tampering and unregistered taxis can be an issue. Use reputable taxi companies like Blue Bird. Confirm that the driver uses the meter or agrees on a fare before starting your journey. Consider using a ride-hailing app like Gojek and Grab. They are often more reliable and cheaper than traditional taxis.

Tip 8: Find Your Dharma

Looking for an enlightening travel experience, a la Eat Pray Love ? Head inland to the idyllic greenery of Ubud. The lush inland town is a wellness hub, offering numerous yoga studios and retreats. Immerse yourself in the world of personal growth with daily affirmations, healthy food, and participating in yoga or meditation. Classes are a great way to experience Bali’s spiritual side and meet like-minded people.

Tip 9: Don’t Get Bali Belly

Let’s be honest—Bali Belly is far too cute of a name for vomiting and diarrhea. If you’re prone to tummy upsets, consider skipping out on street vendor meats and avoid pre-cut fruits and veggies (that may have been washed in tap water) to minimize the risk of violent bodily functions.

Tip 10: Ride Scooters at Your Own Risk

Renting a scooter is a common way to explore Bali. Yes, it’s a lot of fun. Yes, they are widely used. And yes, there are a lot of accidents. If you plan to use a scooter, get an international driving permit, always wear a helmet, and ensure your travel insurance covers scooter accidents. There have been cases where families have been out of pocket for hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of hospital bills after serious scooter accidents because it was an exclusion on the insurance policy. Check the fine print, or don’t take the risk.

Tip 11: Eat at a Warung

Have an authentic dining experience at one of the tiny local restaurants or shops known as Warungs. They often sell traditional Balinese noodles or rice dishes like Pisang Goreng, Nasi Goreng (fried rice), and Mie Goreng (fried noodles).

Tip 12: Choose Your Own (Accommodation) Adventure

Bali offers a range of accommodations, from luxury resorts to budget hostels and guest houses. There can be some great deals and unique accommodation options to be had. Don’t book the first thing you see; research to find the perfect choice for your activities and budget. Check forums for recommendations.

Tip 13: Rent Your Own Private Villa

Get your own slice of luxury for your vacation. Not only are these more spacious and private than hotels, but many have their own kitchens. These can also be economical for families or big groups.

Tip 14: Get a Nanny

Need a break from parenthood? There are trusted nanny agencies all over Bali who can watch your bundle(s) of joy for a half day, day, or even full-time for the entire stay. Some resorts also employ nannies or have kids’ clubs. Even young children and nursery -age babies can be taken care of. Just leave them with the baby essentials and enjoy some rare quiet time. Make sure to book well in advance and only book via reputable agencies.

Tip 15: Get Comfortable Bartering

Bartering is standard practice in Balinese markets. Start at about half the asking price and negotiate with a smile—keep it light and fun. Remember that sometimes, what sounds like a big difference in the local currency can be very little in your home currency. Sometimes, it’s worth paying a tad more to save time and support the Balinese locals.

Tip 16: Dig on Vegan Food

Bali has an incredible plant-based food scene, especially in Ubud. You can easily find substitutes, fine dining, brunch, and even raw burgers. Be sure to try some vegan culinary wonders there—you might be surprised at how good they taste!

Tip 17: Don’t Be a Litterbug

Bali struggles with plastic pollution and littering. Public trash cans might not be available everywhere, so do your part and take your trash with you. It feels good to do your part and keep Bali beautiful.

Tip 18: Protect the Reefs

Avoid touching or stepping on coral reefs , and use reef-safe sunscreen when snorkeling or diving.

Tip 19: Don’t Feed the Monkeys

The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is a must-visit in Bali. Many people do feed the monkeys, but here’s the thing—if you go with food, be prepared to get approached (and possibly climbed on) by monkeys. I know that sounds cute, but do you want a monkey climbing on you? They carry diseases and have surprisingly gnarly teeth!

If you want to take food, I would advise against it. The monkeys can get aggressive and may bite. Trust me, they are good at finding food. They have been known to rummage through backpacks and grab it out of your hands. They are bold critters!

Tip 20: Support Animal Welfare

Sadly, some attractions exploit animals. Be selective, do your research, choose ethical wildlife experiences, and prioritize animal welfare.

Tip 21: Take Advantage of Free Wi-Fi

Bali has good Wi-Fi availability, especially in tourist areas. Cafes and restaurants often offer free Wi-Fi to customers, so if you’re only visiting for a short time, you might not need to buy a SIM card.

Tip 22: Learn Some Lingo

Learning a few simple phrases in Indonesian or Balinese is a great way to improve communication and show respect to the local community. For instance, “Terima Kasih” means “thank you.”

Tip 23: Mind Your Money

The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). As of this article’s publishing date, 100,000 IDR was equivalent to USD 6.50. Those big numbers can get confusing! Familiarize yourself with the exchange rate and work out a simple shorthand conversion rate in your head so you can think in real terms when negotiating prices.

Tip 24: No Cash? No Problem

Don’t get me wrong—you do need cash in Bali. The good news is that it’s easily accessible as ATMs are widely available. Inform your bank of your travel plans to avoid issues with your credit card.

Tip 25: Get off the Beaten Path

Bali is very tourist-friendly, sometimes a little too tourist-friendly. Popular areas like Seminyak and Kuta can get crowded during peak season. For a more authentic experience, explore less-visited areas like Munduk, Sidemen, or Pemuteran for quieter local travel.

Tip 26: Hire a Guide

Hiring a private local guide is a great way to get deeper insights into Bali’s hidden gems and cultural nuances. Be sure to research your guide thoroughly if you want an authentic experience, as some private guides take set routes to attractions where they earn a commission.

Tip 27: Skip the “Excrement” Coffee

Yes, you read that right. Kopi Luwak is a coffee made from coffee beans digested by a wild civet cat. It has been declared ‘the world’s most expensive coffee’ and has become a bit of a tourist trap . Drivers will take you to a farm to view the animals, you sample the coffee and then are encouraged to buy the over-priced coffee to take home. My advice? Leave the excrement coffee off the itinerary.

Tip 28: Don’t Lose Half Your Day in Traffic

Although Bali is a small island, it can take a long time to get between places because of road conditions, speed limits, and traffic congestion. Plan your travel outside peak hours to avoid traffic.

Tip 29: Shop for Local Souvenirs

Get locally made crafts like batik, wood carvings, and silver jewelry. Ensure they are ethically sourced and support local artisans. There are so many beautiful souvenirs to celebrate Bali and remember your vacation.

What a revelation e-SIMs are!! Same number, no changing SIMs, EASY!

This esim has been fantastic.

I found this trip to be completely smooth, using an ASIA Trip Sim. No problems switching from my Australian provider to the e-sim and back again on arrival home. Please keep making enhancements, as I'm still not finding my dashboard truly represents the e-sims I have installed and could be topped up.

Review picture

Sitting at the departure gate I noticed an add for tripsim. (Our daughter had recently used an eSIM for an overseas trip) So I scanned the barcode and downloaded. I must admit it took me a couple of attempts as I must not have filled the steps correctly. But once in NZ with data roaming switched on, it gave great service for the trip. Didn’t need to top up but that could be done as required. Would happily use trip sim for my next international trip.👍

We used this eSim on a cruise up the west coast of South America and through the Panama Canal. We had good connectivity even when several miles offshore. I got emails as data was used and could manage accordingly.

Immediate Connectivity

by Girish Kulkarni

My trip to Singapore was rushed, and I forgot an international SIM card or roaming. At the airport, I searched esim as an alternative option and received one from Prune within a few minutes. It provided me with instant connectivity as I landed in Singapore. Kudos to Prune!

lightning

Affordable Price

by Diego Santoro

When I saw Prune's rates, I thought it was a clickbait due to the low prices for international connectivity. I used to pay thousands, but now I buy an eSIM for a few dollars. My friend in the US couldn't believe it and has also switched to Prune. I'm really satisfied with their 5-star service at less cost.

lightning

24/7 Customer Support

by Aiden Hill

As someone less tech-savvy, I contacted their support team and they helped me set up my esim in Paris. Using their service is easy, even for a tech newbie like me. It's simple to install and use, but I would like to especially appreciate their excellent customer support.

Global Coverage

by Harper Walker

As a pilot, I've tried many connectivity options, but Prune's app is the best. It lets me buy SIM cards for any country, even offering global plans. I chose the worldwide plan for worldwide connectivity wherever I fly. Highly recommend their service.

Trust-worthy & Safe

by Chetna Raghuvanshi

In Bali, my Operator roaming failed due to a technical issue. Thanks to data esim from Prune, I had seamless connectivity, I used WhatsApp for calls, coordination and navigation. Buying a local sim before travel is convenient and ensures connectivity.

lightning

Hassle Free

by Amit Goel

Due to Family emergency my Switzerland trip got delayed, but Prune esim still worked a month later on my rescheduled trip. Their app showed the validity starts upon landing. Thanks Prune for such Hassle-free and convenient service!

An e-SIM, short for embedded SIM, is a built-in SIM card within a mobile device that can connect to various network operators without needing a physical SIM card. However, the network operator must support e-SIM services for it to function. Moreover, the e-SIM operates similarly to a traditional SIM card and comes pre-installed in the device; you can activate it by installing the "e-SIM profile" of a new operator.

With e-SIM technology , switching your mobile operator is incredibly convenient. You can seamlessly change your network operator with a simple phone call without issues. eSIM offers excellent compatibility on a global scale, making it a reliable choice for international usage. Additionally, transitioning to eSIM ensures you won't experience data loss, making it a highly practical option for future mobile needs.

Customer Reviews

Ordering and submitting documents online was easy. The SIM card arrived in two days and worked perfectly in Thailand. I highly recommend it!

I ordered a sim card for my daughter when she went to Greece on vacation. Initially, she faced some challenges but upon informing Prune’s customer support, it got resolved in minutes. So, thank you prune for such a quick response to the problem.

Very happy with the coverage. Their sim card got signals just before exiting the airport. Faced no issues as such.

Prune Sim card was easy to connect, I have used Prune’s sim cards on a couple of my recent trips. Highly recommended.

Initially, I was a bit afraid of using it because I hadn’t heard about Prune then I contacted their customer care, and from there I got clarity about how it works. Thank god I ordered the sim at my home otherwise it would have been more expensive if I bought it from the airport.

"Overall it was a better experience than paying high roaming charges as earlier, this time I ordered a prune sim card before going to Germany. It came the next day itself, and faced almost no problems. Good Service! "
