Safari Brothers

At Letaka Safari headquarters, brothers Grant and Brent Reed have their hands full as an aggressive crocodile wreaks havoc in the community. While Grant gives a group a thrilling morning safari drive, Brent urgently calls him in after an alert that the croc in the river is ready to attack. Their father continues the safari for the guests while Brent and Grant try to capture the crocodile.

It’s the busy season for safaris in Botswana so things are hectic at Letaka Safari headquarters. Everything is going well for Brent and his guests until they run into a problem with their vehicle. He has to lead his group on a dangerous walk through the wilderness. Grant is in Chobe National Park, the elephant capital of the world, to share his animal behavior expertise with security guards.

The Reed brothers are back in the bush, where every success is earned through hard work. A lion researcher recruits Grant to help locate an adult male lion that went missing.. Grant’s tracking skills and unrivaled knowledge of the Okavango’s Kwapa region will be put to the test. Meanwhile, a river crossing floods Brent's truck and short-circuits its electrical system.

It’s the wet season in the Okavango Delta. While Grant Reed deals with impassable rivers and angry hippos, his brother Brent heads to the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans to scout out meerkats for an upcoming safari. Meanwhile, Grant and his guests spot a male and female lion. They’ve probably paired off to mate, but before his guests get to see any action, they head off into the bush and out of sight.

After one of the guides falls ill with malaria, Brent takes over for his group of new guests that are set on catching a glimpse of a big cat. These elusive predators will be nearly impossible to spot as they lurk under the cover of tall grass and other lush vegetation. Meanwhile, back at headquarters, Grant and Mike run into food and water supply issues that could put the company at risk.

Brent and Grant Reed navigate the Okavango River, searching for a route to a campsite that is perfect for a group of clients. However, dropping water levels create some challenges. With the river drying up, the channels fill with impassable sandbars and floating grass islands. But the biggest dangers are lurking in the few remaining pools — deadly crocodiles and rowdy hippos block the way.

Safari Brothers with NatGeo Wild

Letaka Safaris is very proud to announce the launch of a six part television series entitled Safari Brothers which will begin screening in the USA on 14 October 2016.

A safari in Bots-where? In a tent?

Safari Brothers documents the ups and downs of running a safari company in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. Brothers Brent and Grant along with their father Mike and a large team of Letaka stalwarts take us through the myriad challenges which form the background of running a safari company in Africa. The show was the brainchild of Patrick Greene, owner of Symbio Studios and Emmy award-winning director of the hugely successful Jeff Corwin Ocean Mysteries series. Patrick first met Brent and Grant whilst filming an Ocean Mysteries episode in Botswana and nearly two years later Safari Brothers was born.

The six episodes which make up Season One of the Safari Brothers show were filmed over 3 months at the Letaka Safaris base in Maun as well as many wilderness locations including Moremi Game Reserve, Chobe National Park, Central Kalahari Game Reserve and the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park.

For those of you not in the United States, here is a list of the international air dates for Safari Brothers:

Nat Geo Wild UK 1st November 2016 Nat Geo Wild SE Asia 1st November 2016 Nat Geo Wild Middle East 1st November 2016 Nat Geo Wild North Africa 1st November 2016 Nat Geo Channel India 1st November 2016 Nat Geo Channel Korea 1st November 2016 Nat Geo Wild Africa 4th November 2016 Nat Geo Wild Europe 4th November 2016 Nat Geo Wild Germany 18th November 2016 Nat Geo Wild Australia 11th December 2016

Man Cancels Family Get-Together After Brother-in-Law Drives Over His Porsche with 'Huge Pickup'

"He looks right at my car, and as he's pulling in, he's still on his phone, and he hits my car," the man writes

safari brothers cancelled

A man is stirring conversation online after sharing that he canceled a family barbecue when his brother-in-law "ran over" his Porsche 911 while driving a large pickup truck.

In a post shared to Reddit , the man says that "in-laws, extended family" and close relatives were heading to his home for the event when his brother-in-law arrived in his pickup truck.

"I see them pull in right, and [brother-in-law] is the driver and he's on his phone," the person writes. "Because of that, he looks right at my car, and as he's pulling in, he's still on his phone, and he hits my car. I guess he thought he was a lot farther than he actually was."

Never miss a story — sign up for  PEOPLE's free daily newsletter  to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

At that point, the poster writes, the 911 was "totaled" — and the other guests were starting to arrive.

"This is when people are just starting to show up too, and I'm basically steaming," the poster writes. "I was not in barbecue mood at the time, so I told everyone to take themselves and go home, and that it is canceled."

The day after the canceled barbecue, the poster writes that his wife was angry at him, "because some of her family drove 3-5 hours to come, just to be sent home on arrival."

Meanwhile, he writes that he is "still waiting on the insurance payout" for the $225,000 vehicle, which he says he only bought just last year — meaning it's not yet paid off.

In the comments section, the man adds that his brother-in-law's insurance "will not cover all" of the damage. "To get ... the correct amount, I'm going to have to sue him."

The man ends his post with a plea from other Reddit users, asking if he was in the wrong for sending guests home.

But by and large, commenters say the canceled barbecue is "the least of your worries."

Others have offered a different view of the situation, arguing that the Porsche driver's attitude likely ruined everyone's day.

"I think it is understandable that you were not in 'bbq mood' but the event wasn't just for you and I can see how your wife is mad that you are sending away family members that had nothing to do with the car accident because of it," writes one commenter. "Did canceling the BBQ change anything in the process of what had to happen to report your car damaged and so on? Pretty sure it didn't. Did you have to ruin everyone else's day alongside yours? Probably not."

Another argued that the original poster should have asked the brother-in-law to leave, "or left himself if he was too upset, but telling everyone else, who had traveled to get there and see each other, to leave is kind of lousy."

Watch the ‘Gentleman in Moscow’ Team Discuss How They Showed 32 Years Pass: We Never Wanted ‘Oh, My God, What’s Ewan Look Like?’

One of the first things you start wondering as you watch “A Gentleman in Moscow” is “over how many years is this going to take place?”

For those who’ve watched the entirety “A Gentleman in Moscow,” you know that the story in fact takes place over 32 years. That’s quite a canvas for the artisans behind the show to play with. Several of them — creator/EP/writer Ben Vanstone, editor Tim Murrell, and hair and makeup designer Jacqueline Fowler — joined IndieWire’s Consider This Event, presented by Paramount+ , at The Grove on June 8 to discuss how time itself was a character in the story they told.

“[Amor Towles’ 2016 novel] came to me during lockdown in 2020,” Vanstone said. “So I could relate to being isolated and just having only your family around you and that sort. And he sort of discovers the man he was, sort of always meant to be, having lost everything.”

In the case of Rostov, it’s a found family. Most of his biological relatives fled or perished during the events of the Russian Revolution. But into his life at the Metropol Hotel come a host of people who end up meaning a great deal, including Anna Urbanova (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a glamorous movie star of the 1920s Russian cinema who’s a favorite of Stalin. She becomes the great love of his life.

Jacqueline Fowler, Ben Vanstone and Tim Murrell at the IndieWire & Paramount + Consider This FYC Event at Studio 10 on June 8, 2024 in Los Angeles, California.

If that isn’t already an indication, it turns out that “A Gentleman in Moscow” is one of the ultimate “silver lining” stories: Rostov actually does end up leading and living a very rich life. One that we see unfold over decades.

But for the effect of aging Rostov and Anna, the team opted for subtlety above all. “I cut and permed and colored Ewan and told him to use a semi-permanent shade where it kind of washed out really gradually and I could control it,” hair and makeup designer Fowler said. “But nothing was ever permanent. We faded it out.” Then there’s the matter of his mustache .

“Mary is actually a brunette, and she’s actually never played being a blonde before,” Fowler added of Winstead, whose character Anna does first appear with platinum locks. “And I think she really stands out, and then later on we played with using her own hair.”

“If you look at Ewan in the first episode compared to how he is in the last, it looked like a huge change and he had lots of work done,” Vanstone added. “But it’s so gradual and subtle [because it’s over eight hours of storytelling]. It’s not distracting in any way. You’re not like suddenly going ‘Oh, my God, what’s Ewan look like?’”

Christian Blauvelt, Ben Vanstone, Tim Murrell and Jacqueline Fowler at the IndieWire & Paramount + Consider This FYC Event at Studio 10 on June 8, 2024 in Los Angeles, California.

“He was just relentlessly committed to it, using 100 of 111 days,” Vanstone said. “And never missed a beat, never turned up grumpy, led the cast. He was just, and I’m not bullshitting you because I know everyone says, that everyone’s a wonderful person. He genuinely is the best actor I’ve ever worked with in terms of his delivery, but also his generosity to everyone else in the crew and the cast.”

They needed that dedication, because “A Gentleman in Moscow” goes after something special: It tries to capture the rhythm of life — the way people float in and out of our lived experience, the connections we make and then break, the tragedies we endure and the triumphs. Rostov’s situation is extreme, but the experience of life within that is ultimately what everyone experiences.

“What makes life so interesting is that we’re not happy all the time,” Vanstone said. “We’re not sad all the time. We have tragic moments, and you’re telling the story of someone’s life. It is really important for you that you have all the shades in that.”

The darkness, the light, and everything in between. Just like life.

South Korea summons Russia's ambassador over Moscow's new pact with North as inter-Korean tensions keep rising

Updated on: June 21, 2024 / 3:56 AM EDT / CBS/AP

Seoul, South Korea — South Korea summoned the Russian ambassador to protest Moscow's new defense pact with North Korea on Friday as tensions at the Koreas' heavily fortified border continued to rise with vague threats from Pyongyang and brief, seemingly accidental incursions by North Korean troops.

Earlier Friday, the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un issued a vague threat of retaliation after South Korean activists flew balloons carrying anti-Pyongyang propaganda leaflets across the border, and South Korea's military said it had fired warning shots the previous day to repel North Korean soldiers who briefly crossed the rivals' land border for the third time this month .

That came two days after Moscow and Pyongyang reached a pact vowing mutual defense assistance if either is attacked, and a day after Seoul responded by saying it would consider providing arms to Ukraine to fight Russia's invasion .

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin shaking hands

South Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong Kyun summoned Russian Ambassador Georgy Zinoviev to protest the deal between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un and called for Moscow to immediately halt its alleged military cooperation with Pyongyang.

Kim, the South Korean diplomat, stressed that any cooperation that directly or indirectly helps the North build up its military capabilities would violate U.N. Security Council resolutions and pose a threat to the South's security and warned of consequences for Seoul's relations with Moscow.

Zinoviev replied that he would convey Seoul's concerns to his superiors in Moscow, the South Korean ministry said. Reuters reports that Zinoviev said he told Kim threats and blackmail against Moscow over its growing ties to Pyongyang are unacceptable.

Leafletting campaigns by South Korean civilian activists in recent weeks have prompted a resumption of Cold War-style psychological warfare along the inter-Korean border.

SKOREA-NKOREA-CONFLICT

The South Korean civilian activists, led by North Korean defector Park Sang-hak, said it sent 20 balloons carrying 300,000 propaganda leaflets, 5,000 USB sticks with South Korean pop songs and TV dramas and 3,000 U.S. dollar bills from the South Korean border town of Paju on Thursday night.

Pyongyang resents such material and fears it could demoralize front-line troops and residents and eventually weaken Kim Jong Un's grip on power, analysts say.

In a statement carried by North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency, Kim Yo Jong, one of her brother's top foreign policy officials, called the activists "defector scum" and issued what appeared to be a threat of retaliation.

"When you do something you were clearly warned not to do, it's only natural that you will find yourself dealing with something you didn't have to," she said, without specifying what the North would do.

After previous leafletting by South Korean activists, North Korea launched more than 1,000 balloons that dropped tons of trash in South Korea, smashing roof tiles and windows and causing other property damage. Kim Yo Jong previously hinted that balloons could become the North's standard response to leafletting, saying that the North would respond by "scattering dozens of times more rubbish than is being scattered on us."

In response, South Korea resumed anti-North Korea propaganda broadcasts with military loudspeakers installed at the border for the first time in years, to which Kim Yo Jong, in another state media statement, warned that Seoul was "creating a prelude to a very dangerous situation."

Tensions between the Koreas are at their highest in years as Kim Jong Un accelerates his nuclear weapons and missile development and attempts to strengthen his regional footing by aligning with Putin in a standoff against the U.S.-led West.

South Korea, a growing arms exporter with a well-equipped military backed by the United States, says it's considering upping support for Ukraine in response. Seoul has already provided humanitarian aid and other support while joining U.S.-led economic sanctions against Moscow. But it hasn't directly provided munitions, citing a long-standing policy of not supplying weapons to countries actively engaged in conflict.

Putin told reporters in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Thursday that supplying weapons to Ukraine would be "a very big mistake" and said South Korea "shouldn't worry" about the new agreement with North Korea if the South isn't planning aggression against Pyongyang.

South Korea's Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul on Friday held separate phone calls with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa to discuss the new pact. The diplomats agreed that the agreement poses a serious threat to peace and stability in the region and vowed to strengthen trilateral coordination to deal with the challenges posed by the alignment between Moscow and Pyongyang, Cho's ministry said in a statement.

North Korea is extremely sensitive to criticism of Kim's authoritarian rule and efforts to reach its people with foreign news and other media.

In 2015, when South Korea restarted loudspeaker broadcasts for the first time in 11 years, North Korea fired artillery rounds across the border, prompting South Korea to return fire, according to South Korean officials. No casualties were reported.

South Korea's military said there are signs that North Korea was installing its own speakers at the border, although they weren't working yet.

In the latest border incident, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said several North Korean soldiers engaged in unspecified construction work briefly crossed the military demarcation line that divides the two countries at around 11 a.m. Thursday.

The South Korean military broadcast a warning and fired warning shots, after which the North Korean soldiers retreated. The joint chiefs didn't immediately release more details, including why it was releasing the information a day late.

South Korea's military says believes recent border intrusions weren't intentional, since the North Korean soldiers haven't returned fire and retreated after the warning shots.

The South's military has observed the North deploying large numbers of soldiers in frontline areas to build suspected anti-tank barriers, reinforce roads and plant mines in an apparent attempt to fortify their side of the border. Seoul believes the efforts are likely aimed at preventing North Korean civilians and soldiers from escaping to the South.
