A mosaic of emotive piano keys, physical percussion, buzzing analog synths, and expansive vocals, RHYE find humanity in musicality. Shrouded in mystery, the group-first surfaced setting the Internet abuzz with ambiguous imagery, sophisticatedly sensual music videos, and that distinctive falsetto.

Following the runaway online success of two initial singles, the critically acclaimed debut album Woman(Loma Vista Recordings) was released in 2013 and lauded by critics from Pitchfork(“Best New Album”)to The Guardian to New York Times.

Gifted songwriting, breathtaking vocals, and deft instrumental arrangements combine to create an intoxicating blend of R&B influenced, deeply emotive music making the album a staple for provoking intimate moments.

Since the release of Woman, RHYEhas relentlessly toured to establish a devoted global fanbase and enrapture crowds in theaters and at festivals worldwide including riveting sets at Coachella and Pitchfork Paris amongst many others.

Originally a duo conceived in the studio, RHYEhas transformed into a collective led by vocalist and producer Milosh and elevated by a cast of accomplished multi-instrumentalists. As the band began writing new material, the expansive live show indelibly impacted the music for their second full-length albumBlood, released February 2nd, 2018, resulting in a warmer, more organic sound. It’s a new beginning and anew musical experience. It’s RHYE.

“Reserved understated and brilliant soul” -NPR

"Busy but not cluttered, sexy but not serious .” -Pitchfork

“RHYEboasts a sound that lingers long in the memory” -Mojo

“Airy dream pop... sensuous R&B and singer-songwriter candor.” -Rolling Stone

Live reviews

The music that duo Rhye make can only described as sultry and seductive, so its no wonder that Victoria’s Secret used “Open” for their commercial. And that’s only their studio version of their songs. Their live performances take it to another level, using full instrumentation along with their electronic tracks to tantalize your ears. As the violin starts to play for “Open” the lights were off, and the only light comes from candles. The lights remained off and the darkness really added to the experience, allowing you to concentrate on the music. Then as Mike Milosh’s vocals start, his voice throws you into a trance. It then only gets better as they start to add more to each of the songs with each instrumentalist taking a solo. Robin Hannibal playing riffs on his keyboard, a violin solo paired with a funky bass line that transitions like water into the drummer’s solo, and they even had a trombone doing a beautiful run that transitioned the end of “Last Dance.” These additions, not present in the studio version of the song, give you a more jazzy feel and elongates each song experience to last five or more minutes, which the crowd ate up.

Then as the song starts to transition into the next song, Mike introduces everyone, and in between each song he addresses how much he really enjoys each instrumentalist as much as they love playing. Seeing Rhye is not just an ordinary show, it’s the epitome of an experience for your senses.

Seeing Rhye at Massey hall was amazing. 8 people on stage, all were top notch at what they did. I loved the electric violin, chello and horn playing was cool. They were recording video/audio that will be avail. on Massey halls live music recordings soon. They jammed their songs making them even better live. I loved Milosh singing his heart out with such a dynamic band. When the songs hit quiet moments you could hear a pin drop, the audience paid attention to every moment they played. Good to see an audience paying full attention to the show not their phones..we were asked not to use phones or record because the show was being recorded. I really appreciate that, hopefully more artist ask that of the fans. Looking forward to Bruce Cockburn playing there soon. Great hall to see a show. Too bad they will shut down soon for a 2 yr reno project ...

Beautiful, connective, calming and full of solid vibes & musicianship. definitely a very special experience, and one i had waited 5yrs to have. certainly did not disappoint on any front. everyone on stage gave us a delicate piece of themselves through their art. Rhye leads the group with beauty and positivity, and that gentleness was definitely felt within the crowd. Wish i could go to every show date, but this one experience will last a very, very long time.

What really impressed me was how the band members were almost all multi-instrumentalist. Milos aka RHYE sang and played some drums, the keyboardist played synths and vocals, the lead guitarist also rocked the trombone and viola, accompanying the violin player next to her. And despite all this musical juxtaposition, they transitioned well from one track to the next. Not many bands sound better in person, but they did!

What an extraordinary concert !

The show was intimist and full of great music performances.

1:30 of tracks perfectly performed and a great communion with the public.

Rhye is a major band of our time : they have songs that touch the bottom of the heart and could be danced too.

Hope they will come back soon in Paris !

Great concert.

The atmosphere is a combination of calmness and high.

Lots of improvisation. It has a taste of post rock when the band improvised for a long period of time at the end of songs.

We have some audience interactions, but mainly focus on the music, which is better.

Amazing!! It’s pretty much the word to describe Rhye.

They are so affectionate with México because they know how much we love them.

M Milosh it’s just genius, and of course he plays with extraordinary musicians.

Loving the new album , loving “Taste” and love Rhye

The venue was okay, and the sound was pretty garbage but the band was so talented that they managed to pull off a great show. His falsetto is perfect and sounds just like it does on the album. Can't wait to see them again!

An incredible show, by an incredible band at an incredible venue. It could have lasted forever and I wouldn't have minded. The old stuff mixed with the new stuff ... seamless and perfect. It was a heavenly evening.

Mike Milosh says that Home , his latest album as the leader of Rhye, is a product of managing pandemic-era stress and fear alongside creativity. Emma Marie Jenkinson/Courtesy of the artist hide caption

Mike Milosh says that Home , his latest album as the leader of Rhye, is a product of managing pandemic-era stress and fear alongside creativity.

Home: It's where a lot of us have been spending our time since March 2020. For Mike Milosh, leader of the R&B music collective Rhye , the word has taken on new meaning — he's gone from life on the road to a more permanent idea of home at his house outside Los Angeles, where he created his latest studio album. But the sound of this record was conceived well before the pandemic: It began with the idea of wanting to include a choir, which led to Milosh inviting the Danish National Girls' Choir to come to the U.S. to record with him.

"It's kind of hard to describe the joy of being around a choir, but I'm singing the notes, and then they're re-singing them back to me, and then there's 50 people singing it," he says. "And like, it worked . I think that was the craziest part. It's probably the most overwhelmed I've felt in my entire musical career, just hearing this choir sing notes that I wrote — and overwhelmed in the best possible way."

Mike Milosh spoke with NPR's Ailsa Chang about the new Rhye album Home , out today, and how he's tried to manage fear and stress alongside creativity during this time. Hear the radio version at the audio link, and read on for an edited transcript.

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Ailsa Chang: Why did you choose the Danish Girls' Choir specifically to sing with you? What was it about that group?

Mike Milosh: It all started because I did a concert with them in Copenhagen three years ago, and they did this beautiful show with me where we started the whole night with just the choir coming in from offstage and walking through the crowd. There was this moment where me and Ben, one of my keyboard players, were watching this choir come up, and we both couldn't ... like, I couldn't get a sound out of my voice. You're almost like crying for the sake of the music. There's no emotional trigger; it's not like I'm sad about something in my life. You're just overwhelmed by the beauty of the sound of the choir. That was that moment where I was like, "I know I need to get this choir on a record."

Rhye: Tiny Desk Concert

Rhye: Tiny Desk Concert

Your new album is called Home , which for a lot of us feels like what this whole last year basically was, for better or for worse. So, I'm just wondering, what has the idea of home meant to you, as you made this album during the pandemic?

In retrospect, it almost seems mean that I called the record Home , because I had named it before the pandemic happened. I purchased this home in Topanga, which is kind of on the border of Malibu up in the mountains, knowing that I wanted to have a sacred, creative space. I pretty much merge my whole life with creativity; I don't compartmentalize it that much. My partner as well, we wanted a home that was very conducive to being creative, being a little bit away from the city. So, home to me is that merger of the ability to do what I do, which is create music, and do a lot of photography, do a lot of video, do a lot of editing myself. When we found this place, it looked like the perfect scenario for that, and it has been.

Even though you're somewhat removed from the terrible COVID surge happening in LA right now, one of your songs touches on another thing that has made living in California stressful: the wildfires. There's a song called "Black Rain" on your album; what is this song capturing for you?

It was really strange: I didn't really understand, myself, why I was singing this whole "Black Rain" thing. And then very soon after, we get these wildfires, and we were literally seeing soot falling from the sky and landing on the driveway, and it was all over the windshield of our car, and it's on the roof of our house. That's actually a really terrifying feeling. [My partner] Geneviève, her mom lost her house in Big Sur five years ago from a forest fire; it's very triggering for her. These forest fires are really, really, real — they're not just some distant mountain where you don't know where it is. I think we've called 911 three times for fires that we saw the beginnings of. And like me and Geneviève about talk a lot, you've gotta kind of manage your fear.

I want to end our conversation on the song "My Heart Bleeds." There's a line that goes, "Like it or not, we've got to feel some change / Come together now/ Like it or not, this place has got to move in different ways." Tell me what you're saying there.

A friend of mine, Austin, who is on the song with me, his cousin was attacked. Like a racial crime — she's Black, and someone had stabbed her. And she luckily is okay. But it really, really bothered me. The Rhye project, I've always thought ... it's not a very political project, because I want to have a project that's very inclusive. So this song, it's just calling out to people to say, we need to be together. We need to be unified. We need to appreciate each other and come together and move forward. It's not hyper-politicized in the lyrics, but in my intention and my feeling, it's a strong social message, because the hatred that feels like it's rampant in the U.S. is ... it's incredibly grotesque to me, and I'm not trying to add to the grotesqueness of it. I'm trying to ask people to let it go.

Speaking of moving forward, as you put this music out into the world today, what are your hopes for 2021?

They're probably very similar to everyone's. I want to be able to go to restaurants. I want to give my friends hugs and not be all worried about it. I really want to be able to visit my parents easily, without a lot of tension and stress around it. I obviously want to be able to tour. I really want people to be not scared of each other. It's necessary, but the fear that people feel, I would love to see that dissipate, and us return to a state of normalcy. And when we do return, I think the new normal should be highly appreciative of those times, you know? It shouldn't just be like, "Oh yeah, we're going to a concert." It should be like, wow, it's amazing that we can see things again, and we can be around people again. So, that would be my hope.

Meet the Americans competing at the 2024 Tour de France

A general classification win may be out of reach for the American riders in the Tour de France, but ending a three-year stage win drought is well within their grasp.

Sepp Kuss, 29, was the last American to win a stage when he took Stage 15 of the 2021 Tour de France. The Durango, Colorado native is the best rider the country has seen in a decade. Last year, Kuss finished as the top American in 12th place at the Tour de France and won the 2023 Vuelta a España to become the first American Grand Tour winner since Chris Horner won the same race in 2013. However, although slated to be Jonas Vingegaard’s top support rider for the 2024 Tour de France, Kuss withdrew from this year’s edition after testing positive for COVID-19 in the lead-up to the race.

Greg LeMond remains the only American to have ever won the general classification category at the Tour de France, accomplishing the feat in 1986, 1989 and 1990. American Lance Armstrong won the Tour from 1999-2005 but was subsequently stripped of his seven Tour de France titles for doping by the International Cycling Union in 2012 .

So, who is left in this year's race to give the United States a shot at glory — at least for one stage. Here's a look at the three Americans competing at the 2024 Tour de France.

Matteo Jorgenson (UCI WorldTeam Visma-Lease a Bike)

Jorgenson, 25, is having a breakthrough season with an overall victory at Paris-Nice 2024 and a second-place finish at the 2024 Criterium du Dauphine.

Jorgenson is a strong contender in this year's race for the white jersey, which recognizes the best young rider under 26. A versatile rider, Jorgenson — alongside Kuss — is poised to be USA's best hope for a future Tour de France general classification winner. But for now, he will take over from Kuss to play the chief support role for teammate Jonas Vingegaard, who won the 2022 and 2023 Tour de France.

This year will be Jorgenson’s third Tour de France. The Idaho-raised cyclist finished 20th in the general classification standings in 2022 and had to withdraw in 2023 due to injuries sustained in a crash along the route.

Neilson Powless (EF Education-EasyPost)

A standout mountain biker during his young adulthood in California, 27-year-old Powless transitioned to the road and turned professional in 2018.

Powless made history in 2020 as the first Native American to compete in the Tour de France. Since then, he has continued to improve and is coming off his strongest season yet with overall victories at the 2023 Grand Prix La Marseillaise and Étoile de Bessèges.

In Kuss’ absence, Powless is the top American prospect for pulling off a stage win as he is known for his success with breakaways and aptitude at climbing. Last year, Powless led the King of the Mountain classification for the first half of the Tour but was ultimately edged out by Italy’s Giulio Ciccone. This year, he’ll be looking to finally secure the polka-dotted jersey by the end of the Grand Boucle .

Hailing from Los Angeles, Quinn is a 24-year-old, up-and-coming cyclist riding in his first Tour de France to support Richard Carapaz, team leader of EF Education-EasyPost. Hot off a victory at the U.S. National Road Race Championships in May, Quinn is a strong all-around rider who excels at climbing and can produce strong sprinting kicks. Quinn will certainly be one to watch as he develops in the coming years.

Simone Biles Is Ready for Her ‘Redemption Tour’ at the 2024 Paris Olympics: ‘More to Give’

Simone Biles Is Ready for ‘Redemption’ at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Simone Biles is ready to prove herself.

“This is definitely our redemption tour. I feel like we all have more to give,” Biles, 27, told reporters at a press conference late Sunday, June 30, after she was announced for the U.S. women’s gymnastics team at the 2024 Paris Olympics .

Biles is one of five women going to Paris later this month. She will be joined by Suni Lee , Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles — with whom she was part of the 2020 team — as well as newcomer Hezly Rivera .

During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Biles withdrew from various events , citing her mental health and suffering from the “twisties,” which caused her to become disoriented in the air during the competition.

“I know we’re stronger than what we showed in Tokyo, so I think it has to be for us because it can’t be for anybody else — that’s not why we do it,” Biles said. “We do it for ourselves, and the love for the sport, and the love for representing the U.S. We’re going to go out there and we’re going to do our best.”

Biles added that she’s not fazed by the critics who called her a “quitter,” among other things, amid her health struggles at the 2020 Games.

“They’ll still say like, ‘Oh my gosh, are you going to quit again, are you going to quit again?’ And if I did, what are you going to do about it? Tweet me some more?” she said, as reported by People . ”Like, I’ve already dealt with it for three years. But yeah, they want to see us fail.”

Simone Biles Shuts Down Critics of Husband Jonathan Owens

“They want to see the rise to success, and then as soon as you get it and do kind of take that and run with it and you start reigning for a really long time, they want to see the downfall,” she continued. “[It] is really unfortunate because sports hasn’t seen athletes like we’ve seen before. So you really have to give them their flowers in the sport, because once they’re gone you’re going to miss them.”

McKellen said he had been “so looking forward” to travelling with the production to Bristol, Birmingham, Norwich and Newcastle.

Tour de France dates: June 29 - July 21

Tour de France TV channel: NBC

Tour de France streaming: Peacock

How to watch the 2024 Tour de France without cable:

Starting at just $6 a month, a Peacock subscription is the easiest way to stream live sports and events airing on NBC, including this year’s Tour de France! On top of access to the Tour de France, the streaming platform is the home of the 2024 Olympics, and the easiest way to stream most live sports and events airing on NBC. You’ll also get access to thousands of hours of shows and movies, including beloved sitcoms such as Parks and Recreation and The Office . For $12 monthly you can upgrade to an ad-free subscription which includes live access to your local NBC affiliate (not just during designated sports and events) and the ability to download select titles to watch offline.

Is there a free Tour de France livestream?

ExpressVPN’s added protection, speed and range of location options make it an excellent choice for first-time VPN users looking to stretch their streaming abilities, plus, it's Endgadget's top pick for the best streaming VPN . New users can save 49% when they sign up for ExpressVPN’s 12-month subscription. Plus, the service offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, in case you're nervous about trying a VPN.
