#1 Sightseeing and dinner Prague River cruise

prague river trips

  • ⛵️ Book your Prague dinner cruise on GetYourGuide
  • ⏰ Time: Roughly 3 hours
  • 💸 Cost: €59

We’re going to start off with a bang since this is one of the fancier river cruises you can do in Prague. Most of the tours and cruises all take place in the same area so it’s more what the boat offers that makes every tour unique and special.

On this sightseeing and dinner cruise , you’ll have an all-you-can-eat buffet which also includes a welcome glass of wine. There’s something magical about sipping a glass of wine on an open deck with historic buildings surrounding you from all sides. We personally love evening tours in Prague like this!

For just around 3 hours you’ll be touring the Vltava River and cruising by all the iconic stops like Kampa Island, Charles Bridge, the Dancing House , and a few others! Hopefully, the delicious all-you-can-eat food won’t distract you too much from all the sights! 😉

This Prague River Cruise is a great date idea if you’re a couple celebrating your anniversary or another important event. At €59 ($60 USD) a person, it’s on the more expensive side for river tours in Prague but you really do get your money’s worth with the whole experience!

#2 Paddle Boating down the Vltava River

prague river trips

  • 🙋🏼‍♀️ Show up in person and rent a paddleboat ( map here )
  • ⏰ Time: 1-2 hours is a good time to rent it for.
  • 💸 Cost: 250 kč to 400 kč per hour per boat
  • 💰 Bring cash as they only accept cash for the boats!
  • 😎 Pro tip: try going earlier in the day as they do get very busy on warm summer days!

This is probably our favorite activity to do with friends! If you’re a few people then it’s going to cost you about $5 a person per hour to rent a paddle boat. You can see the price guide for paddle boat rentals in Prague here . Let’s just say it’s the best $5 you’ll spend that day. You can bring your own food and snacks and enjoy hanging out on a paddle boat on the Vltava River.

Most of the boats fit 4 people comfortably so if you’re a big group you can rent 2-3 boats and cruise around the Vltava together. The area that the boats are allowed in is quite a large area. You’ll be able to get up close to the Prague Castle where you can get some great pictures.

Paddle boating is one of the fun activities when it’s crazy hot during those summer months when you don’t want to be stuck between thousands of tourists in Old Town Prague. Instead, grab some snacks and head out onto the Vltava River for a few hours and get some fresh air on the Vltava River.

You can walk to the paddle boat rental spot from the city or take a tram. You can find the location of the rental boats here . It’s right on Slovansky Island and impossible to miss once you know where you’re going! One of the best activities you can do in Prague on a warm sunny day.

( Hint: You can bring some drinks too, but don’t let them see it😉).

#3 Evening sightseeing Prague River Cruise

prague river trips

  • ⛵️ Book your Prague evening sightseeing cruise on GetYourGuide
  • ⏰ Time: Roughly 1 hour
  • 💸 Cost: €14

This is the perfect Prague River cruise if you’re looking for something affordable and fun to do in the evening. For €14 ($15 USD) a person you can hang out on a boat that cruises up and down the Vltava River for an hour.

As we mentioned in the other evening river cruise, there’s something magical about seeing the city illuminated at night from the boat. You’ll see most of the iconic sights on this river cruise as well. It’ll just be a bit quicker since this tour is just under an hour long – which is also why this Prague cruise is a lot more affordable.

There’s even an open deck so you’ll be able to get great panoramic views from the city if you go on the ship deck. On those warm summer nights, it’s nice to hang outside and just take in this beautiful city! The Prague Castle at night is something else and you’ll get some incredible views of it on this tour !

#4 Historical Prague River Cruise

prague river trips

  • ⛵️ Book your Prague historical Prague River Cruise on GetYourGuide
  • 💸 Cost: €18.5

This is a fun afternoon activity you can do in Prague! It’s a cheap €18.5 ($19.5 USD) historical boat trip on Prague’s famous canal boats that will take you to some of the most historic parts along the Vltava River.

You’ll get a drink and a few refreshments on board while listening to the audio commentary as you pass by a few of Prague’s historic pieces of architecture (such as the Prague Castle and Charles Bridge).

If you just want to get a sample of being out on the river and see the city from out on the water then this Prague River cruise is great. The tour itself is less than an hour long and runs multiple times a day!

This tour is great to do with a friend or the whole family. You can enjoy yourself on the peaceful canal boats for right around an hour before heading back to the city.

#5 Vltava River Lunch Prague Cruise

prague river trips

  • ⛵️ Book your Prague river lunch cruise on GetYourGuide
  • ⏰ Time: Right around 2 hours
  • 💸 Cost: €34

This is an awesome afternoon river cruise in Prague where you can enjoy a nice lunch with a view. You’ll be able to enjoy the buffet lunch from the deck of the riverboat while you’ll be able to take in the views. It’s such a good way to get the most out of your 2-hour tour in Prague.

Afternoons can also get very crowded in Old Town Prague so if you can get out on the water for a lunch cruise you’ll avoid the Prague crowds for a few hours. The Vltava River does get busy as well with other tours, paddle boats, and all that but you don’t notice it the same way as when you’re walking around the city center.

For around €34 ($35.5 USD) a person, you’ll be able to enjoy a nice lunch with a view of the Vltava River. You’ll also be welcomed with live music (accordionist) and audio and maps describing the different sights you’ll see on this 2-hour river cruise .

The Prague Steamboat Company has a long tradition in the area of personal water transport going back many years. It was founded in 1865 by Mayor František Dittrich and thus belongs among one of the longest operating purely Czech companies. We operate two historical restaurant paddle steamers, the Vltava and the Vyšehrad , which were declared cultural monuments in 2013. Both refurbished and completely functional steamers cruise on regular routes through Prague , on excursions to Slapy and Mělník and are a popular place for company and private events . Our mission is to preserve both historical steamboats in such a way that current as well as future generations get to know the magic of steam navigation in its most original form.

9 Best Prague River Boat Trips for 2024 (as recommended by a local)

Featured · Getting Around

Walking around Prague can be quite tiring, so if you want to take a little break, why not try a short boat trip and see the centre of Prague from a different angle?

I’ve done quite a few trips with the original Prague Steamboat Company and always found them a great value and the trips were great too. It’s the only company that operates the historic steamboat Vltava and Vysehrad, but they also have a modern boats that are used for the shorter trips and boat dining experiences.

In my opinion, the Certovka boat trips never really feel like a good value for money, but they do start directly from the centre, so you don’t need to worry about trying to find the right boat stand slightly off the centre of Prague.

prague river trips

1. Certovka Boat Trips

The first boat trip offer you’ll probably come across when you visit Prague are the Certovka boat trips promoted by the staff, who are dressed up as traditional sailors. You will see them at the beginning of Charles Bridge on the Old Town side and then when you come down from the bridge towards Kampa Island and the Certovka water stream.

The boats run all year round and depart about every 10-15 minutes from the Charles Bridge Museum at the beginning of Charles Bridge on the Old Town Square. Unfortunately, not everyone finds it a good value, as sometimes you need to wait until there are enough people on the boat, which is longer than the advertised 15 minutes. Not everyone is also happy about the actual trip route as you only go under one bridge and spend most of the time around Charles Bridge and the Certovka canal, which is quite short.

It’s probably worth it if you want to take photos of Charles Bridge from the Vltava River and visit the Charles Bridge Museum afterwards. The museum tells a story of the bridge and you can also see the foundations of the previous bridge on the site of the current bridge, Judith’s Bridge.

  • Tickets are 550 CZK (adults), 350 CZK (children) and include the boat trip, drink and snack on board and free entry to the Charles Bridge Museum.

prague river trips

2. Alternative boat trip around Certovka canal & Charles Bridge

If you want to do much longer trip and don’t want to see the Charles Bridge Museum, do the Certovka trip with the traditional Prague Steamboat Company.

Their boats start from the Cechuv Most (stand no.3), which is the bridge that’s opposite the large metronome monument at Letna Park. This trip cost 480 CZK (adults) or 330 CZK (children), but you will have a fantastic view of Prague Castle, Charles Bridge and the historic centre of Prague.

You can buy the tickets directly at the stand 3 or online with 10% discount (www.paroplavba.cz). The minus is that the boats run only at the weekends on Saturday and Sunday every 2 hrs from 10.15 am until 20.15.

prague river trips

3. One hour sightseeing boat trip in the centre of Prague

This one hour tour will take you under four different bridges (twice) and also through locks. You will be able to see the Smichovska Naplavka , Shooter’s Island, National Theatre, Prague Water Towers at Manes and Children’s Island, great view of Prague Castle, Vysehrad Castle and Charles Bridge from the distance (but you won’t go under the bridge)

  • End of March – end of September – daily from 10 am – 7 pm (boat leaves every hour), 30. 9 – 31. 10 Saturday + Sunday only – 11 am – 5 pm (boat leaves every hour)
  • Tickets: 390 CZK Adults, 230 CZK Child or family ticket (2 adults + 2 children 1010 CZK
  • Boat Leaves from Rasinovo Embankment

prague river trips

4. Two hours sightseeing boat trip in the centre of Prague

This two-hour tour is an extended trip based on the one hour trip. You will be able to see the Smichovska Naplavka, Shooter’s Island, National Theatre, Rudolfinum, the modern Dancing House , Prague Water Towers at Manes and Children’s Island, great view of Prague Castle, Vysehrad Castle Podoli Watertreatments Plant and you will also cruise under the Charles Bridge.

  • Daily (all year round) 12 noon (with lunch) and 3 pm
  • Tickets: 600 CZK Adults, 380 CZK, Children or 1130 CZK for lunch trip with live music (the 12 o’clock boat trip always include lunch and it’s not optional).
  • Boat Leaves from Cechuv Most, stand no. 3

prague river trips

5. The day trips by Prague Steamboat Company

The Prague Steamboat Company (PPS) was founded in 1865 by Prague Mayor František Dittrich, it is one of the oldest purely Czech companies still in operation.

There are two historic paddle steamers, Vltava and Vyšehrad, are also been listed as cultural monuments since 2013. The steamers usually do the longer excursion cruises to Slapy and Mělník and you can get the modern boats for the 1 hr Prague viewing trips or Prague ZOO trips.

I’ve taken the trip to Prague ZOO with them as well as the trip on the historic paddle steamer to Slapy Water Dam and it was a great experience. It was a perfect way to travel and see Prague from a different angle. Prices start from 290 CZK (trip to ZOO), 390 CZK (Prague centre sightseeing) or 650 CZ (Slapy Dam).

Insider Tip: Apart from the circular boat trips, I found that one way ticket is usually enough to see everything and allows me greater flexibility to return back when I want. For example the trip to Prague ZOO took 75 minutes, which would have been about the same as public transport, but the Slapy Dam trip is 4 hrs one way. Rather than going back the same way, I decided to follow a beautiful country walk next to the river and then got back from Stechovice on a bus that took about 20 minutes.

prague river trips

6. Prague ZOO trip by boat

Another fun way to get to Prague ZOO (and one I’ve done myself) is to take the boat trip from the Naplavka at Palackeho Namesti (Rasinovo Nabrezi). The journey takes a good 75 minutes. One one-way ticket is 250 CZK (children 150CZK) or a return ticket is 390 CZK (children 200 CZK). Family tickets are also available. You can also buy a reduced ticket to the ZOO with your boat ticket, which is actually a good value (at this year’s ZOO prices, the one-way boat trip would only cost 70 CZK).

The only thing is that you need to play your day to make sure you have enough time to see the ZOO. I took the 12 o’clock boat and bought only one-way ticket, knowing that I wanted to go back after ZOO closing time by the local bus. But there were also people on the boat who had the return tickets for 5 o’clock and that definitely wasn’t enough time to see the ZOO properly. There is at least a 20-25-minute walk (one way) from where the boat stops, as you need to walk across one island and cross the Vltava river, so you need to factor that all in. The path to the ZOO is well-signposted, so you don’t need to worry about getting lost.

The boats leave at 9, 12 and 15.30 pm from Prague and return at 10.30, 13.30 and 17,15 back to Prague. The boats are running only during the main tourist season from the beginning of April till the end of October.

prague river trips

7. Evening at the Jazz boat

The Jazz Boat is definitely a tourist venue, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. If you want to listen to a nice jazz , whilst eating a sophisticated dinner and admiring the views of Prague, then the Jazz boat is a perfect place to spend an evening.

The cruise lasts two and a half hours and the jazz band will play through with only a few breaks. Each night is slightly different, but you can always expect traditional to slightly modern jazz, blues, bossa nova, and other related musical styles.

You can board the Jazz Boat every evening from 8:00 pm, and it sets sail at 8:30 and returns back by 11 pm in the summer. In the winter the boat leaves 30 minutes earlier and also comes back earlier too.

Jazz Boat restaurant offers a three-course gourmet menu and there is a vegetarian option too. The bar has a good selection of wines from around the world, cocktails, beer and soft drinks.

The boat will cruise up and down the Vltava River and you’ll get the chance to see the Charles Bridge, Prague Castle on the top of the hill, National Theatre, the modern Dancing House aka Ginger & Rodgers and the yellow-lit penguins in front of the Kampa Museum in Sovovy Mills and well as seeing the lesser-known residential areas of Prague.

Insider Tip: If you prefer to do more Prague sightseeing and taking photos, whilst listening to the music choose the basic ticket as you’ll be able to move around the boat and stay on the top deck if you like. If you prefer to sit, eat and listen and see the jazz band, opt for the ticket & food option and you’ll be seated downstairs inside the boat.

  • Location: Jazzboat, Boat stand number 18, Náplavka Na Františku, Prague 1.
  • Tickets & Prices: 980 CZK standard ticket or 1650 CZK with food menu option (3 course dinner included but drinks are extra). Snacks or salads are from 130 CZK. Drinks from 65 CZK for beer, soft drinks or coffee to 160 CZK for cocktails.

prague river trips

8. Take a paddle boat trip on Vltava river

This is another fun way to get closer to the water and one that I’ve tried during the last summer Prague heatwave . Although I initially thought this was something ‘just for tourists’, I really enjoyed the experience and it was definitely cooler on the water than in the town’s streets.

Most rental places are on the ‘ Slovansky Island’ or Zofin Island just outside the National Theatre (access to the island is via a bridge from Masarykovo Nabrezi street as you go from the National Theatre towards the famous Dancing House.

There are several different places to rent your paddle boat from. Prices are about the same in each place, but it depends on what type of boat you want to rent and for how many people you needed for. As an example boat for 2 people is 300 KCZ for 60 minutes. You can also rent boats for 4 people, which at around 500 KCZ work out a little cheaper per person. The cute looking old-fashioned cars are of course the most expensive ones, but they do look pretty cool moving on the water.

The staff will explain where you are allowed to go and what you should avoid (you are not allowed to go close to the weir towards the Charles Bridge as it’s too dangerous). Vltava River is fairly quiet and slow around this area, so you don’t need to worry about being overturned in.

You also need to watch out for large powered boats and give them plenty of space to pass. Depending on how far you are from them, you might feel the water moving underneath your paddle boat, but that’s just a fun part of being on the water!

Once you are on the river, there is no shade (unless you hide under the Legionares Bridge), so bring a hat, sunglasses and long shirt to cover your arms or legs. Clothes-wise you are better off with shorts or a longer skirt (or you can leave the pedalling to your friend!).

The standard rental is for 60 minutes, which is plenty of time to work your way around Shooters Island with the views of Charles Bridge, Kampa Island and Park with the art gallery at Nove Mlyny (New Mills), the row of yellow penguins, the underneath of Legionnaires Bridge (with the perfect shade) and the edge of Children Island with the statue of a dancing girl representing Vltava River.

prague river trips

9. Three-hours sightseeing boat trip with dinner

This three-hour tour will take you under four different bridges (twice) and also through locks. You will be able to see the Smichovska Naplavka, Shooter’s Island, National Theatre, Rudolfinum, the modern Dancing House, Prague Water Towers at Manes and Children’s Island, great view of Prague Castle, Vysehrad Castle Podoli Watertreatments Plant and you will also cruise under the Charles Bridge.

Whilst dinner on a boat, whilst having a dinner sounds idyllic, I should mention a couple of things, having been around the Vltava river and the centre at that time and on another boats – especially if you are thinking of taking photos of Prague.

In the winter the day light is gone by 4 pm, so you won’t be able to do much sightseeing. I’ve also noticed that since the electricity went up few years ago, the main sights, like the Prague Castle are switched off during weekdays (no always, but I’ve been surprised many times by this). In the summer, you will get a daylight until nearly 9 – 9.30 pm, so for the duration of your boat dinner cruise. But the problem is that the sun will be setting behind the Prague Castle and since Vltava is sheltered by hills, everything gets dark fairly quickly or gets a very deep shade. It’s perfect for a romantic dinner, but if you want to take photos, I’d recommend taking the daytime boat trip (the earlier in the morning the better).

  • Daily (all year round) 7 pm
  • Tickets: from 1480 CZK Adults, 980 CZK including all meals, drinks and live music

The boat is a small traditional wooden boat and it’s excellent to see and get close up look at the bridge and also the canal with water mill so better than getting a big boat. Tour guide was excellent, you also given an audioguide as you travel around the river. You then can visit the museum as part of your ticket so over all excellent value for money, great views and great service.” Jay of Ireland

  • Support sustainable practices: Choose cruise operators that prioritize sustainability and eco-friendly initiatives. Look for companies that have implemented measures to reduce their carbon footprint and support local conservation efforts.
  • Be mindful of wildlife: The Vltava River is home to various wildlife species. Respect their natural habitat and observe them from a distance. Avoid feeding or disturbing the wildlife during the cruise.

What people love about river cruise tours from prague.

This cruise was first rate; I can’t imagine using any other cruise line. We had a balcony suite and it is was very comfortable with an adjustable bed covered in lush bedding. The staff was friendly, helpful and professional and yet we felt like they were our friends. The food was delicious and plentiful as were the drinks. We met lots of wonderful travelers and the excursions were perfect! When they say the price you pay covers everything, it is true. Can’t wait to sail with Scenic again!

Consider a Dresden-Prague River Cruise this Summer

Boats on Vltava river

Diana

In today’s world of sustainable tourism river cruises are gaining popularity. Prague to  Dresden is one such route that you could explore. This summer, tourists and locals alike will have the chance to journey between these two historic cities by boat. In essence reliving a tradition that dates back more than 170 years.

This offering is happening due to a joint effort between Czech and German tourism boards, aiming to boost regional tourism and highlight the area’s rich riverine heritage. This year also marks the 170th anniversary of the first steamboat cruise in Bohemia, which famously carried Hans Christian Andersen.

“We’re thrilled to offer this unique travel experience,” said Jana Novotna, spokesperson for the Prague Steamboat Company. “It’s not just a trip, but a journey through time and culture.”

The journey, which takes two days each way, will be made on the renovated steamboat Vltava. This vessel has been meticulously restored to its 1940s appearance, offering passengers a taste of vintage travel luxury.

Challenges and Opportunities

While the route promises stunning views of the Bohemian and Saxon countryside, it also faces some challenges. Low water levels in recent years have made navigation tricky in certain stretches of the Elbe River.

“We’ve worked closely with environmental experts to ensure our operations are sustainable,” explained Klaus Schmidt, a German tourism official. “This route isn’t just about tourism; it’s about fostering a deeper appreciation for our shared waterways.”

Impact on Local Tourism

The driving for for keeping this route is expected to have a significant impact on tourism in both cities and the towns along the way. Small riverside communities are gearing up to welcome new visitors.

“We’re seeing increased bookings already,” noted Petr Svoboda, owner of a guesthouse in Melnik, where the Vltava joins the Elbe. “People are excited about this slower, more scenic way of traveling.”

Looking Ahead

If successful, there are plans to expand the service in coming years, potentially including more stops and themed cruises. For now, travellers have until September to experience this unique journey between two of Central Europe’s most beloved cities.

As the first steamboats prepare to set sail, it’s clear that this isn’t just a new travel option – it’s a floating bridge between cultures, history, and the natural beauty of the Czech Republic and Germany.

7 easy breezy day trips from Prague for every travel style

Kick off the summer season with a newly opened beer museum, a walk in the footsteps of literary giants, and strawberry (and lavender) fields forever.

For art lovers: Nelahozeves

If you have an appreciation for art, history, and get excited when you hear the word “Dvořák,” we suggest you venture northwest to a charming town called Nelahozeves. This hidden gem is nestled along the Vltava and prizes one of Bohemia’s prettiest Renaissance castles dating back to the 10th century. But its biggest claim to fame is that it's the birthplace of one of music’s most important composers, Antonín Leopold Dvořák. Step off the train at Nelahozeves, walk up to the Nelahozeves Castle (we suggest listening to Serenade of Strings as you do so), and you’ll see why Dvořák was so inspired.

Feature on Expats.cz

As you explore the castle, you’ll take in a rich collection of paintings, musical instruments, and historical artifacts that span centuries. Among the treasures, you’ll find works by Bruegel, Rubens, and Velázquez. Even more exciting for music lovers, as the country celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Year of Czech Music, a brand new exhibit will open this summer. At the Antonín Dvořák Birth House, visitors will get to know Dvořák as never before.

prague river trips

Don’t miss it: The Antonín Dvořák Birth House will open in Nelahozeves on June 28. As the museum is in test mode, admission will be reduced until the end of summer 2024. Visitors can explore the Central Bohemian village where the acclaimed composer grew up via audio guides that take them from his modest beginnings to global acclaim. Later this year, the annual Dvořák Nelahozeves Classical Music Festival, a one-day series of concerts, workshops, and guided tours, takes place on Sept. 8.

What else to do: Head to the marina for a sightseeing cruise, boat rentals, or a bite to eat at Marina Vltava restaurant after visiting the castle.

How to get there: Nelahozeves is easily accessible by public transport from Masarykovo nádraží. Take the regional train directly to Nelahozeves Castle in under an hour; trains run regularly on Saturdays and Sundays.

For literature buffs: frýdlant and kersko.

Prague may be a literary haven for bookworms – from beautiful baroque libraries to overfilled antiquarians and endless cafes – but there is still plenty to do outside of the city for fiction fans.

If you’re looking for a literary excursion that’s not far from Prague head directly east to a small town called Kersko. This cottage settlement inspired the renowned Czech writer Bohumil Hrabal, and you can now visit his former cottage, recently reopened as a museum , to delve into the life and works of one of the country's most beloved authors.

prague river trips

Don't miss it: Hrabal's Hájenka is a restaurant in the Kersko cottage settlement where the film The Snowdrop Festival, based on the author's book of the same name, was filmed. Visitors can dine in the pub featured in the movie. The menu focuses on venison dishes paired with the Hrabal-inspired Postřižiny beer.

What else to do: If you have time, consider starting in Nymburk, the medieval city that brews the beer named for Hrabal’s book Postřižiny (Cutting It Short). After strolling or grabbing something to eat, you can take a river cruise to Kersko.

How to get there: Kersko is easily accessible by car, with the drive taking just over 30 minutes from Prague. Alternatively, you can take a train from Prague's main station to Lysá nad Labem and catch a local bus to Kersko.

Frýdlant and Kafka

In celebration of 100 years of Kafka , head north to Frýdlant, a small town in the Liberec region of Czechia that sits on the ridges of the Jizera mountains. Though not officially confirmed, it’s been rumored Kafka was smitten with this region, having come on occasion for work but also as a tourist. So much so, his final unfinished novel, The Castle, is said to be inspired by the imposing Frýdlant Château, which stands high up on a basalt rock. Feel connected to literary greatness as you walk through Frýdlant’s historic streets and explore its castle grounds, just as Kafka once did.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Státní hrad a zámek Frýdlant (@hrad_frydlant_zamek)

Don’t miss it: Celebrate the second annual Frýdlantsko Franz Kafka (Franz Kafka’s Frýdlant) this summer from July 6 to October.

What else to do: Wander the streets to the main square or cozy up at a local cafe with your favorite Kafka novel. We suggest CAFÉ Jazzová Osvěžovna .

How to get there: Frýdlant is easily accessible by car in just under two hours. If you don’t have a car, you can also take the Flixbus from Florenc bus station and arrive in Frýdlant in two and a half hours. Just pay close attention to timetables as only a few Flixbuses pass through this town each day.

For beer backers: Kostelec nad Černými lesy

With the world's highest beer consumption per capita and more than 400 breweries, the Czech Republic is a beer haven for locals and tourists alike. While it’s not hard to tire of beer-related experiences in Prague, from local hospodas to buzzing beer gardens to monastic breweries, you might also wonder what else Czechia’s beer culture has to offer. When planning for beer-related day trips, many put Pilsner or České Budějovice at the top of the list, but we suggest heading about 40 km southeast of the city to the small town of Kostelec nad Černými lesy.

This quaint destination has everything you could want in a medieval town: Renaissance buildings, an impressive castle, and dense fairytale-like forests wrapping the city (hence the name: "Kostelec in the Black Forest”). But the trip's highlight will be the new National Beer Museum , showcasing Czech brewing traditions with historical equipment, interactive exhibits, and histories of famous breweries. Tours run daily and start at the Černokostelec Brewery. Entry includes access to English-friendly audio guides, and you can taste some of their microbrews.

prague river trips

What else to do: Pack a few beers and some light fare for a picnic on the Vyžlovka Lake. Afterward, stroll the many trails in the nearby nature preserve, Voděradské bučiny, before heading back to Kostelec nad Černými lesy for beer and Czech food at the museum’s Černokostelecký pivovar.

How to get there: In a little over an hour, you’ll be able to reach Kostelec nad Černými lesy by public transportation. Take the regional train from Masarykovo Nádraží to Český Brod, then take a 25-minute bus ride over to Kostelec nad Černými lesy. Trains leave every hour on the weekends.

Happy glampers and farm fans: Chodoun and Vraňany

Chodoun’s lavender retreat.

The Czech Republic is the place to be for outdoorsy folk, with four national parks and over 25 protected areas, many of which can be hiked, climbed, biked, and camped as day or weekend trips from the capitol. But if you’re looking for a little more luxury (without spending a lot of money), we suggest you head to Chodoun, a small village near Beroun, surrounded by the Křivoklát Highlands and protected landscape areas. Here, you’ll enjoy a sustainable, lavender-scented experience in the heart of Barrandien Geopark.

Falkenstein Schladming Category + In Article

Once you arrive at Lavandula Bohemia , indulge in aromatherapy or grab a bite to eat at their local farm-to-table restaurant. If you want to venture away from the breathtaking fields, you’ll find plenty to do nearby. Down the road is Farm Stehlík, which has a selection of tasty, locally-grown products, and surrounding the town are many tranquil hiking trails to explore. If you want to make it an overnight, Lavandula Bohemia now offers glamping experiences: tents, caravans, and tiny homes amongst its organic lavender fields.

prague river trips

What else to see: Catch a one-hour regional train to the base of Karlštejn Castle.

How to get there: The fastest way to get to Chodoun is by taking a direct regional train from Prague's main train station. In just over an hour, you’ll arrive. Direct trains leave a couple of times a day, so be sure to check timetables when planning. If you aren’t able to catch a direct train, don’t worry, you can still get there by taking a bus from Zličín to Zdice in just under an hour and a half.

Hanč Farma Vraňany strawberry paradise

If agrotourism is more your travel style, head 30 km north of Prague to the tiny village of Vraňany. Here, you’ll find one of the country’s best-kept secrets: the Vraňana Hanč farm . Operating for over 25 years, this six-hectare area boasts the largest farm shop in the Czech Republic. You won’t walk away empty-handed when you visit. We recommend trying their cider, selection of fresh jams, compotes, preserves, and best-selling strawberries. You can even self-harvest (and taste) some of these strawberries at their designated picking plots!

What else to see: After getting refreshments and a bite to eat at Café Na Výsluní, visit one of the many chateaus and castles in the surrounding area, such as Mělník, Veltrusy, or just slightly further out Kokořín.

How to get there: A direct train leaves Masarykovo nádraží every couple of hours, getting you to your destination in just an hour.

For Instagram addicts: Brdy

If your ideal getaway includes capturing stunning photos for your social media feed, the Brdy region is the day trip for you. Where will you take your Insta-worthy shot? At the summit of Houpák hill, the highest peak in southwestern Bohemia. You can reach these panoramic views by starting in Hořovice. From there, you’ll climb through forests and meadows, capturing castle ruins and old bunkers. At the top, take as many photos of the vistas as your feed demands! This hike can take up to seven hours, so we recommend starting this day trip early.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Turistická oblast Brdy a Podbrdsko (@brdyapodbrdsko)

What else to see: Should your feed lean a little more towards historical grandeur, stay in Hořovice and take in the elegance of the 300-year-old Hořovice Château, which has plenty of architectural beauty and lush gardens to photograph.

Falkenstein Jesolo Category + In Article

How to get there: Typically, the best way to reach the Brady region is by car, traveling about an hour’s drive southwest of Prague on the D4 highway and following signs for Příbram. But from June 8, a new circular cycle bus line marked 505 will, for the first time, take tourists and cyclists from Příbram to Kozičín or Orlov to experience the beauty and tranquility of Brdy. The bus runs until Sept. 15.
