Acorn Winery

The Nachbauer’s founded their hidden gem of a winery in 1990 which is located at the Northern end of the Russian River. This quaint winery sits in the cool Russian River Valley climate making it the perfect place to accommodate over 60 planted varieties of Italian and French grapes. With a production of under 3000 cases annually, Acorn is known for their field blend red wines which are inter-planted, harvested, and fermented together creating balanced food-friendly wines. The owners host you personally which creates a relaxed down-to-earth feel without crowds. A tasting and vineyard walk will educate you on their Zinfandel, Cabernet Franc, Dolcetto, Sangiovese, and Syrah blocks of grapes which are blended the day they are picked.

Bella Winery

Bella is a small, family run winery dedicated to handcrafting small lots of zinfandel. They focus on their own century old vineyards as well as those tended by other small, passionate growers who are extremely dedicated to the heritage and quality of these vines planted so many generations ago.

Dry Creek Vineyard

Dry Creek Vineyard is one of the few remaining family-owned wineries in California. With more than 45 years of grape growing and winemaking experience, our efforts continue to focus on the quality of wine in the bottle. When founder David Stare started Dry Creek Vineyard, he began the winery with a single-minded effort to offer the highest quality wine possible at a reasonable price. Dave realized that the success of the winery hinged upon providing that “something special” in the bottle to keep customers coming back for more.

Today, the second generation continues to build upon those early-established values. Dave’s daughter and president of the winery, Kim Stare Wallace, is wholly committed to the quality of wine produced at Dry Creek Vineyard. The goal remains the same: to produce high quality wines while being mindful of the original vision of the winery.

Ferrari-Carano Vineyards & Winery

Since 1985, Ferrari-Carano has been a leading producer of world class, nationally acclaimed wines including full bodied Chardonnay and rich classic reds.

Jordan Winery

Established in 1972, Jordan Vineyard & Winery was inspired by the great wine estates of France and created as an homage to the timeless connection between food, wine and hospitality. A relentless commitment to this tenet helped make Jordan one of the top Cabernet Sauvignon brands in California.

Stonestreet Winery

Stonestreet Estate Vineyards is the story of a family’s vision to defy the limits of California winegrowing. Jess Stonestreet Jackson and Barbara Banke established the estate in 1995, and their son Christopher Jackson and his wife Ariel continue the legacy — and the middle name “Stonestreet” has now been passed from father to son for three generations. Stonestreet is one of the most expansive and multi-faceted mountain vineyards in the world and produces a distinctive collection of single vineyard wines — powerful Cabernet Sauvignon, soulful Chardonnay and electric Sauvignon Blanc.

Sapphire Hill Winery | 55 Front St Healdsburg, CA 95448

Beginning in 1989, Sapphire Hill Vineyards and Winery established a reputation for serving their award-winning Chardonnays, Pinots, and Zinfandels. Sapphire Hill Winery continues to focus on varietals from small unique vineyards – many times, only bottling as little as 48 cases of a particular wine. They pride themselves on finding great grapes to make into great wine – only bottling wines that they are proud to serve to their family and friends. At Sapphire Hill Winery, they offer a 5-course food and wine pairing, which takes place in their private barrel room. Guests can also choose to have a tasting at the bar where they can sample small production wines and seasonally available bites like caramel popcorn with their Russian River Chardonnay.

Seghesio Family Vineyards   | 700 Grove Street, Healdsburg, CA 95448

platinum wine tours healdsburg

This winery provides an important link to the history of winemaking and grape growing in Sonoma County. The Seghesio's were immigrants. They brought their winemaking knowledge from the "old country" and established a winery before prohibition. The family persisted even after prohibition stopped most winemaking operations in the United States. With over a century to perfect their craft, Seghesio offers some of the best Zinfandel in America. Visit the winery and you will get a history lesson on how the valley has developed and changed over the years. You can also try some of the better Italian varietal wines available in California.

The winery isn't just about history. There are a lot of great tasting experiences you can enjoy in the here and now. The "Chef's Table" and the "Founder's Flight" are both available with a reservation. The "Chef's Table" experience is a four-course food and wine pairing with a wine expert. You will learn the fundamentals of wine pairing while you experience Seghesio's Zinfandel matched perfectly with chef Peter Janiak's cooking. This is a can't miss experience and puts Seghesio on our list of the best Healdsburg wineries.

We celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary recently in Santa Rosa and decisded to look up Gene again after first using him back in 2007. Gene offers a personalized touch that allows you to both maximize you time and taste the types of wines that you love. I recommend Gene whenever out of town guests ask me the best way to see wine country and look forward to returning for more wine tasting soon! All around great experience!!

Photo of Nancy L.

Great experience! We visited some unique and fun wineries and felt very special. The team was very accommodating to changes in schedule (we had a hard time leaving each winery!! and had to shuffle a bit).

Photo of Melissa M.

Not my first trip with them and definitely not my last. My BFF and I had a lovely day of wine tasting. But not simply wine tasting. We were TREATED. We had some very exceptional private wine experiences today and cannot wait to return. Sid gave us a very memorable day today.

I've been a longtime lurker and decided to reserve my first review for an exceptional business: Gene and Debbie Warren's Healdsburg Area Winery Tours. I contacted Gene several weeks in advance of our trip and he managed to address all of our varied interests. Specifically, we were interested in learning more about the winemaking process, biodynamic wineries, and tasting bold reds and some sparkling wine. Gene put together the following schedule for us, and we could not be more thrilled. Stonestreet Winery - Pretty good, but pricey, Cabernet Sauvignon. Too bad because the tasting room staff were really knowledgeable and friendly. Lancaster Estate - Our favorite! Here Gene scheduled a private tour of the estate and wine cave (where the barrels are stored). They only make four wines (sauvignon blanc, a cuvee, a cab, and a signature bordeaux blend), all of which are absolutely impeccable. We even considered joining the wine club, but the waiting list was too long for my patience. Robert Young Estate - Good scion; also known for their chardonnay but I personally found it too buttery. Tasting room staff was kinda tipsy too... Truett Hurst - A biodynamic winery specializing in zinfandel. I especially love their 2006 Red Rooster zin, which is really spicy and unusual (think cloves and cardamom). Montemaggiore - A small (10 acre), organic, estate winery owned by a family that's recently entered the winemaking trade. Gene scheduled an hour-long private chat with the owner/winemaker, and it was a phenomenal educational experience! Highly recommended. Many of the winery staff also seemed to really know and respect Gene, so they also gave us considerably more attention when we would walk in with Gene =) Go to tripadvisor.com if you want to see more reviews of Gene's services.

This was our second round with Gene, and he was just as fabulous as we remembered. We were in Gene's neck of the woods - Healdsburg proper - and it definitely showed. While Gene was helpful, polite, and professional in the lower Sonoma region, here in Healdsburg he was basically a celebrity. Every winery we went to said something along the lines of, "you're with Gene? No problem." They would engage us in conversations and suggest special extras for us to taste. We were able to get into reserve rooms and have extra tastings that aren't always offered, which can take the day from enjoyable to unforgettable.

I can't even tell you how happy I was to see that Healdsburg Area Winery Tours already had a 5-star average. I'll try not to repeat what other people said... My boyfriend and I had Gene take us around Sonoma, south of the Healdsburg area. Gene rightly told us we shouldn't trek all the way up to Healdsburg (we were staying in downtown Sonoma), and should instead stick closer to where we were to get the most out of our time. This was the 4th of July weekend, so I'll do my best to remember each of the wineries we attended. Even though we are in our mid-twenties, and look even younger, Gene was completely professional with us and spiced up the trip with his vast knowledge of the region. He was also very sensitive to try to fit in the places we had coupons for (either from the hotel or internet searches). Valley of the Moon A winery I hadn't even heard of. It has very pretty grounds, and we ended up buying a couple bottles (they had a good sale). Kunde I remember liking a lot of their wines, but this was one where I felt a little slighted by the staff. They seemed to assume we were just young people out to get drunk off tastings...which is annoying. Especially since we wanted to hear about the wine. Kunde does have some bottling equipment you can see through a window, which is pretty cool to nerds like us. Sadly, it wasn't running. St. Francis I really liked this place. The grounds were vast and beautiful, and our pourer was really likeable and helpful. He pointed out that since we had a Visa Signature card, we could get free tastings. Amazing! BR Cohn Soooooooo cool for music nerds. Mr. Cohn was the longtime manager of the Doobie Brothers (which Gene and the pourer pointed out - among other interesting facts). They also had tasty tasty vinegars. I love a place that has wine AND food...especially when it's dippin stuff and vinegar. Ledson Ledson can be intimidating...it is a grand castle-looking building. Gene had the industry code, so we were able to drive right up, rather than park far away and walk. So nice! Gene suggested we eat here, and it really was some delicious sandwiches. Ledson was probably the priciest winery we visited all day. It was cool to see, but I'm glad we went to some more economical places as well. Deerfield Ranch This was the gem of the trip. It had opened only weeks before, and there's no way we would've found it without Gene. The tasting room was in the caves (awesome!) and it was a very casual setting. The staff would come sit on the couches with you if there wasn't room at the counter to pour and explain. Weirdly enough, our host was a Big Ten grad, so we had lots in common. Six wineries in an afternoon, and all new to us! Thanks to this experience, we are definitely planning to see what Healdsburg is all about...and we'll be requesting Gene for certain!

We booked Healdsburg Wine Tours and spent a fantastic day with Sid. He organized the perfect day and pulled some strings to get us into some boutique wineries! It was relaxed and customized! Would definitely recommend!!!

I found Healdsburg Area Winery Tours on the internet and was very excited to book a day of wine tasting for 7 girlfriends. Gene and Debbie Warren are the owners and operators and longtime Healdsburg residents as well. They know the town inside and out! I booked the Deluxe Wine Tour Package which is $100pp. We had a party of 7, so you do the math = $700. The Deluxe Tour allows you to visit two appointment only wineries and four to five open to the public wineries. You can also tailor your tour depending on your taste in wines. Please discuss this with Gene in advance for planning purposes. They usually require a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 6, but he was kind enough to accommodate 7 of us girls. Gene picked us up on a Saturday at 10am. Since their were 7 of us, his wife drove another vehicle and us girls split up in two cars - not a problem. Their vans were nice and stocked with plenty of water to refresh our thirst throughout the day. The tours usually last through 4pm, Gene was nice enough to drive us around town on the hunt for bottles of champagne for our dinner that night. Thanks Gene! We visited the following: Robert Young Estate Vineyards *Appointment Required Mosaic Winery Simi Winery Francis Ford Coppola's Rosso & Bianco *Lunch was delicious! Ferrari-Carano Vineyards *BEAUTIFUL grounds I would definitely call Gene to book my next wine adventure. Salute!

A tour with Gene is the perfect introduction Northern Sonoma. It's also the perfect introduction to wine country in general. I knew from the moment I booked that it would go great. Gene always responded to all emails within hours and followed up as we got closer to our scheduled date. He inquired about what we liked/what we wanted to see in order to customize our tour. This being our first trip, we didn't have any specific requests and told Gene we were open to anything. Smart move. We went to six great vineyards, most being intimate and super friendly. In many cases we were the only people in the tasting room and had great conversations with the winery employees. Almost all gave us some sort of deal because we were with Gene! He also guided us to an INCREDIBLE sandwich shop that we would never would have come across on our own. He brought us to a beautiful vineyard to eat our picnic lunch. The view was so incredible. It made the whole experience magical. Gene was friendly, knowledgable and professional. He made sure we were comfortable and answered all of our questions. He came prepared with coolers to store our purchases and ample water. A few hours after our tour Gene emailed me with a list of where we visited along with a list of the wines we said were our favorites. I can't say enough good things about Gene and his tour. You won't regret a day with Gene.

Photo of Angela H.

Wow! We did two days with Gene and it was amazing! He was so knowledgeable about the area and vineyards! On the way to our first vineyard he gave us a wine 101 which was very helpful and interesting. We went to a lot of smaller vineyards which we never would have had a chance to try back home on the east coast. But also visited some more well known vineyards like Geyser Peak where he got us a free reserve tasting in a VIP area overlooking hundreds of wine barrels! We also received two. Complimentary glasses of wine to enjoy with our lunch! (which he brings a cooler so you can bring your own) We were able to meet some vineyard owners and at one vineyard were given a private tour of a wine cave! VIP all the way with Gene! He customized our tours based on our favorite wines and we found sone new favorites along the way! We also stopped off for an olive oil tasting which was yummy! It's not only the vineyards that made our experience amazing, Gene's knowledge made the experience wow! He has a great personality and we truly enjoyed spending two days with him! I have done one other tour in Northern CA previously in a fancy car (that is what you pay for). Did not even compare as that driver did not know much at all about wine! Gene's SUV was very comfortable! And after our trip he gave us a detailed emil of what we visited and the wines we liked, One the first day we visited: White Oak, Hanna, Field Stone, Medloch-Ames, Robert Young, DeLorimier, and Francis Ford Coppola. Our FACS that day were Hanna and to DeLorimier. The next day we visited: Mauritson Family, Mazzocco, Geyser Peak VIP Room (Lunch also), Ferrari-Carano, Yoakim Bridge, Russian River Olive Oil Company, and J Vineyards. Zin was said to be a wine discovery. Especially pleasing varietal choices were: Sauvignon Blanc at Mauritson, and Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon at Mazzocco. I would highly recommend Healdsburg Area Winery Tours to anyone visiting the area looking for a great tour guide!

Photo of Sue M.

You know how sometimes you get a little suspicious when you see all 5-stars on yelp? Like there must be something amiss? Not here. Gene's the real deal. We were lucky enough to get a gift certificate from friends for a personal wine tour with Gene. I don't think I'd ever have chosen to buy this for myself, but I am so glad others did it for me! There is simply no comparison between wine tasting on your own and doing it with Gene. A class act all the way. We put ourselves completely in his hands and he took us on an incredible journey of many wineries in the Dry Creek area. We felt like rock stars wherever we went--everyone knows Gene, and we got special tastings and special deals because of him. And what a lovely gentleman he is! A voice like Bing Crosby's, and he was helpful and unobtrusive at the same time. He would mostly hang back and just let us enjoy ourselves and each other (which was very romantic), but occasionally he'd step in with tips or stories. Just right. I recommend this business highly--I'd give them 10 stars if I could. This experience was just incredible--the customer service before our day, during, and after has been top of the shelf.

Healdsburg travel guide: three-day itinerary for wine lovers

This Healdsburg travel guide is the next installment in Jess Lander’s Sonoma wine country tour.

Sonoma wine country is diverse and covers a large area. To help you plan a trip, we’ve divided the region up into three different itineraries, assuming a Thursday arrival, and have earmarked the best places to visit.

Look out for Jess’ Sonoma travel itinerary , and her West County & Sonoma Coast itineraries coming soon

Healdsburg travel guide

Healdsburg, Credit sonomacounty.com

The darling of Sonoma County, Healdsburg is equal parts small town charm and lap of luxury. A 90-minute drive from San Francisco, it’s also the perfect jumping off point to explore three of Sonoma County’s most revered AVAs: Russian River (known for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay ), Alexander Valley (known for Cabernet Sauvignon that can compete with Napa ), and Dry Creek Valley (rooted in old vine Zinfandel ).

Check into the Montage , Sonoma’s newest hotel and arguably one of the top resorts in America. Although just a few minutes from the centre of town, the Montage sits on 258 acres and feels completely removed from urban life.

Stay in a luxury, modern day treehouse with vineyard and mountain views, lounge by one of two pools, and then dine on the terrace at the Montage’s incredible Hazel Hill restaurant.

H

Accommodation at the Montage hotel, credit www.montagehotels.com

Start the day at the Healdsburg Plaza which, similar to the Sonoma Plaza, is lined with shops, wine tasting rooms, restaurants and bars. Grab a light pastry breakfast at Quail & Condor , a new bakery from local celebrity Melissa Yanc, the winner of the 2019 Food Network Holiday Baking Championship. If you’re up early enough, snag the first appointment of the day at Siduri Wines for an in-depth exploration into single-vineyard California Pinot Noir.

Reserve the Paris on the Terrace experience at Jordan Vineyard & Winery in Alexander Valley. This classic, ivy-covered French chateau makes just two wines — a Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay — but you’ll get to sample both, in addition to a pour of Champagne and a special library vintage throughout this leisurely, multi-course lunch at a private bistro table.

Spend the afternoon outside enjoying the beauty of the Russian River, where you can rent kayaks, canoes, rafts and stand-up paddleboards from several local companies, or simply take a dip and relax on its shores. Alternatively, rent a bike from Getaway Adventures and discover Healdsbug’s stunning country backroads (an electric bike will help you get up and over the rolling hills).

Get dinner at The Matheson , a new, three-story, farm-to-table restaurant and sushi bar, complete with a rooftop cocktail lounge, on the Healdsburg Plaza. Locally-beloved chef Dustin Valette’s family’s restaurant Valette is a Healdsburg staple and The Matheson is located on the very same site his great-grandfather’s bakery once stood.

If you’re looking to continue the evening, head to new bar Burdock , also on the plaza, for Havana-inspired cocktails.

Jordan Winery

Paris on the Terrace Experience at Jordan Winery, credit www.jordanwinery.com

Grab coffee and a light breakfast from Costeaux French Bakery , which dates back to 1923. The deep-dish quiche is legendary.

Drive roughly 15 minutes out to Flowers Winery in the Russian River Valley and book the Bottles & Provisions experience ($75 per person), featuring a half bottle of wine per guest and a picnic basket of culinary delights enjoyed within a breezy garden cabana. Flowers pioneered growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on the rugged and harsh-weathered Sonoma Coast 30 years ago and this relatively-new Russian River estate has made their beautiful wines accessible to visitors for the first time.

platinum wine tours healdsburg

Pass back through the centre of Healdsburg and then out to Dry Creek Valley, the third wine country region that envelops the town. Less than 20 minutes from Flowers and then up a narrow, one-lane road is the undeniably hip Reeve Wines , set amongst oak trees in the most rustic, quiet, and relaxing country setting. Enjoy an oh-so casual tasting of Reeve’s wines, which always sell out, ranging from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to Syrah , Cabernet Sauvignon, and even Riesling . If you’re lucky, the pizza oven will be firing.

While in Healdsburg, it’s worth the splurge (a tab for two can easily reach $1,000) to dine at SingleThread , a three Michelin-starred restaurant that’s like Sonoma’s version of the French Laundry — except the dishes featured on the 11-course tasting menu are lighter, fresher, and more contemporary-driven with a Japanese influence. Tables for the following month are released on the first of every month at 9am and often sell out, so you’ll want to be at the ready.

Single Thread Farm

The farm at Single Thread Restaurant, credit www.singlethreadfarms.com

Chances are you’ll still be full from SingleThread, but if you’re up for brunch before leaving Healdsburg, Barndiva , one of the original farm-to-fork restaurants in town, is the place to go with bistro garden seating and items like Dungeness crab Benedict and black truffle Croque Madame on the menu.

If you have time for one more wine tasting, head to the new Bacchus Landing wine tasting collective, located just outside the edge of downtown Healdsburg and home to eight small, local wineries.
