Excursion Overview

Make the ultimate pit stop at misty fjords national monument.

What can we say about Misty Fjords? Between 2.3 Million Acres... it's never the same. It's beautiful in full bright sunlight when it is really misty, and at all the stages in between. Waterfalls, shear granite cliffs, trees growing everywhere, even out of shear rock. A true wonderland formed through the millennium out of fire (volcanoes) and ice (glaciers), where you will see wondrous scenery and have a chance to see nature at its finest. Keep your eyes peeled for eagles, bears, deer, mountain goats, seals, or maybe even whales. Your flight starts in Ketchikan and flies through the Tongass National Forest to The Misty Fjords National Monument. This tour lasts for 1.5 hours and includes flightseeing through the Monument and a stop for 20 minutes on a wilderness Fjord. Enjoy a personal pilot narration with individual headsets on this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Massive glacier action created this ice-rimmed wilderness. See majestic fjords, cascading waterfalls, jewel-like lakes, and abundant wildlife during your flightseeing exploration. Marvel at sheer walls of granite plunging over 3,000 feet into the fjords, lush forests of spruce, hemlock, and cedar clinging to snowcapped peaks, in this land of incredible natural beauty and rugged grandeur. The dramatic Misty Fjords terrain is home to a multitude of wildlife. The astute observer may be rewarded with sightings of brown and black bears, Sitka black-tailed deer, wolves, moose, and bald eagles, as your expert bush pilot flies over this paradise. Visible only from the air, see the splendid 1,000-foot waterfall flowing from Big Goat Lake, which was named for the region's concentration of mountain goats. Colonies of these marvelous high mountain creatures can be spotted and photographed from the air.

Although we weren't able to fly to Musty Fjord we were flown to a remote lake and enjoyed beauty of Alaska. Dave was a wonderful guide and pilot and made us feel right at home. It was the highlight of our Alaska cruise!!

Fantastic flight and narration. Weather cooperated and alpine lake landing was great. Nice folks!

This was the highlight of our trip. We were so glad our other excursion was canceled. Otherwise, we would have missed this one. My advice is to book this one first!!!

guest reviews

Our family. three generations ranging in age from 10 to 75, spent an amazing couple of hours with our pilot, Jim, flying over the Misty Fjords, seeing breathtaking sites, and learning much about the creation of the fjords and their history. Our pilot, Jim, was both knowledgeable and entertaining, interspersing his informative narratives with an outstanding music selection. In fact, it is worth noting, that despite the unparalleled beauty of the Misty Fjords from aloft, Jim's selection of tunes runs a very, very close second and really added to the intensity of the excursion. Many thanks to Jim for his expert flying, his knowledge of the history, geology, and geography of the fjords, and choices of MUSIC. A memorable experience it was, to say the least.

This excursion was the highlight of our week long Alaska cruise! Our pilot, Adam, was both entertaining and knowledgeable. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, and the flight was exhilarating. We take a lot of photos and videos on trips, but eventually, we put down the cameras. We wanted to take in the beautiful sights and we knew that pictures and videos could only capture a fraction of what we were seeing. If you ever have opportunity to fly with Taquan Air and take this tour, DO IT!

I can see that Larry has already been mentioned in previous reviews, but I have to add another because he’s quite simply a lovely man and excellent pilot. I wasn’t the most confident flyer in my group but Larry’s approach was reassuring, kind and courteous. All in all a tip top gentleman. Oh, the sights were pretty awesome too.

Fabulous flight with Larry! Incredible views and lots of laughs. Loved every minute of our tour from take off to landing!

TripAdvisor - 2019 Certificate of Excellence

“This is a great day trip!

We flew with Steve in a beautiful DeHavilland DH-2, and it was an excellent experience. I had high hopes, and they were met and more. From the moment we met Lesley in the van until the time we said goodbye, there were friendly, professional, and great to work with. The flight itself had very smooth takeoffs and landings, and the scenery is out of this world. We even saw a whale and a bear. If you’re on the fence, go for it. These guys are great.”

“Dear Steve and Leslie, Just a quick note to let you know how much we enjoyed our trip. Looking through the pictures we came home with, most are concentrated on our flight with you. Your staff was great, appreciate the drop off in the heart of town so we could get something to eat and make it to a couple of stores. Again, thank you.”

“We (Linda & I) often think of you and your family and wish you all the best. Just so you know, all our main memories and photos of our cruise back in September are of you guys and the tour you so graciously shared with us. We thank you for that. We still picture ourselves on that little island somewhere on a beautiful fresh water lake in the Alaskan wilderness, wow! Thanks again”

“Exceeded all expectations! SeaWind was awesome. From the super convenient pick-up at the cruise ship, to the friendly staff at the office to the actual flight. I witnessed the staff being super helpful and patient with customers that had mobility issues. The flight was amazing and included actually getting out at the fjord on a dock to allow for photos. The pilot was super friendly and knowledgeable. We had the ability to actually talk via headsets while in flight to the pilot and the other passengers. The value for the price was exceptional. It was the highlight of our entire trip to Alaska and Canada. The folks at SeaWind were genuine, warm and down to earth… not a corporate or cold experience. Loved it!!!”

misty fjords floatplane tours

“Vacation 2016 This is the third time we have flown with Steve over a 7-year period; and we would do it again tomorrow. His knowledge of the area and ability to find wildlife while flying is great! We have had three different experiences, taking the same tour three times.”

“Great Experience This was a top-notch experience from start to finish. I had several questions before we left home and Lesley responded quickly and cheerfully. Connecting with them in port went smoothly and before we knew it we were meeting Mike our pilot and climbing into the plane. I had never taken off from water before, but Mike is an excellent pilot and it was just like taking off from a runway. The views were breathtaking and well worth the cost. Definitely book direct from them rather than your cruise ship. You save big $$ and get to deal directly with them, which is a plus.”
