Air Kim­ber­ley first took to the Kim­ber­ley skies back in 1992 as a small char­ter com­pa­ny based on a pas­toral sta­tion close to its name­sake — the for­mer spec­tac­u­lar King Leopold Ranges, now named the Wanaamin Mili­wun­di Ranges. Today the com­pa­ny ben­e­fits from an exten­sive air­craft engi­neer­ing back­ground and has seen much expan­sion in both the com­mer­cial and leisure tourism sec­tors. Air Kim­ber­ley has its Head Office at Broome Inter­na­tion­al Airport.

Expe­ri­enced pilots are addi­tion­al­ly trained as tour guides in order to pro­vide a com­pre­hen­sive and infor­ma­tive insight into the stun­ning Kim­ber­ley landscape.

Book­ing office staff are hand picked for their local knowl­edge and are able to pro­vide valu­able assis­tance in itin­er­ary and tour plan­ning around the Kimberley.

We oper­ate one of the largest sin­gle engine fleet in the West Kim­ber­ley oper­at­ing the C 208 Car­a­van, GA 8 Air­van, Cess­na 182 , 210 and 206 air­craft, which are an ide­al air­craft for the Kim­ber­ley con­di­tions. These are usu­al­ly fit­ted with 5  pas­sen­ger seats and have a high wing design, which cre­ates greater sta­bil­i­ty and allows for opti­mum view­ing. These types of air­craft can also cov­er great dis­tances very quick­ly, mak­ing them ide­al for char­ters and tours into even the most remote and often inac­ces­si­ble Kim­ber­ley regions.

Each pas­sen­ger has a win­dow seat (except the C 208 ) and a per­son­al head­set to lis­ten to the pilot’s com­men­tary. Pilots cir­cle land­marks of inter­est, so that pas­sen­gers max­imise pho­to opportunities.

• Fly across the stun­ning Buc­ca­neer Arch­i­pel­ago, home to 1 , 000 islands made of Pre­cam­bri­an sand­stone over 2  bil­lion years old.
• Fly over­head Koolan and Cock­a­too Island, home to the world’s rich­est iron ore deposits.
• Land­ing at the Ardyaloon* (One Arm Point) com­mu­ni­ty, enjoy a refresh­ing swim at the beau­ti­ful Jol­o­go Beach.
• Vis­it the Ardyaloon Trochus Hatch­ery and Aqua­cul­ture Cen­tre for lunch and a guid­ed tour with an expe­ri­enced local guide. Enjoy a fas­ci­nat­ing and edu­ca­tion­al tour of the Hatch­ery which con­tains a diverse range of fish, coral, and crus­tacean species whilst learn­ing about the Bar­di-Jawi people’s strong con­nec­tion to their salt­wa­ter tra­di­tions and get up close and per­son­al with some of the fish and coral species most preva­lent in the area.
• Coastal return flight over­head the stun­ning red cliffs at Cape Lev­eque, then south­bound along the beau­ti­ful bays and beach­es of the Dampi­er Penin­su­la with views of Bea­gle Bay, James Price Point, Willie Creek Pearl Farm and Broome’s world-famous Cable Beach.

*The Hor­i­zon­tal Water­falls is a nat­ur­al phe­nom­e­non which is tide depen­dant with vari­able flow. Whilst we do our very best to arrive at a time of opti­mum flow, we can­not guar­an­tee the amount or lev­el of water flow­ing through the Hor­i­zon­tal Water­falls at any giv­en time.

Should for any rea­son the Ardyaloon Com­mu­ni­ty close, the vis­it to Ardyaloon will be replaced with a vis­it to Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm with a tour of their Pearl Farm and refresh­ments at their restaurant.

Addi­tion­al Book­ing Notes

For safe­ty and oper­a­tional require­ments Air Kim­ber­ley observes a max­i­mum indi­vid­ual weight of 120 kg per per­son for all scenic tours. 

Adverse weath­er con­di­tions may mean that the sched­uled itin­er­ary can­not pro­ceed as intend­ed. If adverse weath­er means that you are unable to com­plete the full tour, then any refund will be adjust­ed on a pro rata basis depen­dent on the fly­ing time involved. 

If we are unable to com­plete a par­tic­u­lar tour activ­i­ty, a refund for the cost of that activ­i­ty will be refunded. 

Fol­low­ing con­fir­ma­tion of the tour, if for some rea­son the tour falls below the min­i­mum num­ber of 4  required to oper­ate, the tour will be placed on hold until min­i­mum num­bers are met.

• Depart­ing Broome we track east over the beau­ti­ful turquoise waters of Roe­buck Bay. Over­fly the mighty Fitzroy Riv­er, the Fitzroy Cross­ing town­ship and the stun­ning Geikie Gorge.
• Enjoy morn­ing tea and a refresh­ment stop at Halls Creek in the East Kimberley.
• Fly the scenic pat­tern around the Bun­gle Bun­gle Mas­sif mar­veling at the spec­tac­u­lar domes from above. Sweep­ing across the Bun­gle Bun­gle range, a hid­den world of gorges and pools is revealed with fan palms cling­ing pre­car­i­ous­ly to walls and crevices in the rocks.
• On arrival at the remote Bell­burn airstrip you will be met by your tour guide from King­fish­er Tours. You will then embark on your Bun­gle Bun­gle adven­ture to the south­ern Dome walk in an air-con­di­tioned 4 WD with stops along the way for spec­tac­u­lar pho­to opportunities.
• Enjoy a mod­er­ate 3 km guid­ed walk* amongst the famous erod­ed tow­ers and black and orange band­ed bee­hive struc­tures on the dome walk and into Cathe­dral Gorge. This short uneven loop takes you up close among the bee­hive domes, where you can clear­ly see the dif­fer­ent lay­ers of the sed­i­ment and the pro­tec­tive band­ing of the iron oxide and cyanobacteria.
• Fol­low a mean­der­ing creek bed amongst the tow­er­ing bee­hive domes and hon­ey­comb rocks to the icon­ic nat­ur­al amphithe­atre, known as Cathe­dral Gorge. The Gorge is known for its out­stand­ing acoustics and sheer beau­ty. There are some steep steps and a lad­der with­in the gorge that lead to nar­row ledges.
• A light pack is pro­vid­ed with your drinks and lunch to be enjoyed in Cathe­dral Gorge.
• On your return to the airstrip, there is time for refresh­ments before the scenic flight back to Broome.
• On your return flight to Broome, fly over the spec­tac­u­lar Wunaamin-Mil­li­wun­di Ranges, Devon­ian Reef Con­ser­va­tion Park and Wind­jana Gorge.
• Morn­ing Tea &  Lunch included.

*A rea­son­able lev­el of fit­ness and stur­dy footwear is required. There are some areas of uneven ground as well as walk­ing on sand in Cathe­dral Gorge.

• Land­ing at the Ardyaloon (One Arm Point) com­mu­ni­ty, enjoy a quick tour of Jol­o­go Beach and Round Rock.
• Vis­it the Ardyaloon Trochus Hatch­ery and Aqua­cul­ture Cen­tre for morn­ing tea and a guid­ed tour with an expe­ri­enced local guide. Enjoy a fas­ci­nat­ing, edu­ca­tion­al tour of the Hatch­ery which con­tains a diverse range of fish, coral, and crus­tacean species whilst learn­ing about the Bar­di-Jawi people’s strong con­nec­tion to their salt­wa­ter tra­di­tions and get up close and per­son­al with the fish and coral species most preva­lent in the area.
• After the Hatch­ery Tour we jump back aboard your air­craft for a short flight to Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm.
• Explore the ​ ‘ Giant Tides’* of the spec­tac­u­lar Kim­ber­ley Coast by boat. Feel the pow­er of the world’s largest trop­i­cal tides as you cruise amongst the giant whirlpools and stand­ing tidal waves on your sea safari.
• Enjoy a Pearl Dis­cov­ery Tour giv­ing you an insight into the fas­ci­nat­ing his­to­ry of pearling at Cygnet Bay, learn about the cul­ti­va­tion of some of the most sought-after and beau­ti­ful pearls in the world.
• Enjoy a deli­cious lunch at Cygnet Bay Pearl Farms on-site restau­rant and if time per­mits enjoy a refresh­ing swim at their on-site swim­ming pool.

*For safe­ty rea­sons the min­i­mum age for the sea safari tour is 5  years of age. Dur­ing neap tides, the Giant Tides Sea Safari is replaced by the Kim­ber­ley Island Explor­er Boat Tour. This neap tide expe­ri­ence tra­vers­es the inter­tidal zones of the beau­ti­ful and desert­ed ​ ‘ thou­sand islands’ which make up the Buc­ca­neer Archipelago. 

Please note, should for any rea­son the Ardyaloon Com­mu­ni­ty close, the Ardyaloon vis­it will not be replaced. This tour will be depart at 0900 at a reduced rate. 

• Depart­ing Broome, we track North across King Sound, home to Aus­trali­a’s largest tides, fly over Wal­cott Inlet, the rarely seen Hard­ing Range, and the Prince Regent Riv­er, before land­ing at Mitchell Plateau airstrip.
• On arrival, you will be met by your tour guide from King­fish­er Tours. After a quick meet and greet, expe­ri­ence dri­ving along one of the most remote Kim­ber­ley tracks in your com­fort­ably air­con­di­tioned 4 WD through the vast ancient Livis­tona Palm for­est to the Mertens camp­ground (Ranger Base) and the start of the 4 . 5 km Punamii-unpuu Hik­ing Trail.
• Guid­ed by your tour guide, enjoy a 4 km cul­tur­al walk* trav­el­ling past majes­tic water­falls, spell-bind­ing gorges, Abo­rig­i­nal rock art and sites of cul­tur­al sig­nif­i­cance to the Wunam­bal peo­ple with swim­ming opportunities.
• Admire the unfor­get­table view of Mitchell Falls whilst you enjoy a packed lunch, rest and rejuvenate.
• After explor­ing the falls, a refresh­ing swim and many pho­to oppor­tu­ni­ties, enjoy an exhil­a­rat­ing heli­copter scenic flight with HeliSpir­it over the majes­tic Mitchell Falls and Mertens Gorge and be trans­ferred back to the Range Base for the dri­ve back to Mitchell Plateau airstrip.
• After arriv­ing back at the air­field, enjoy some well-earned refresh­ments before the home­ward flight.
• On the home­ward flight, we track the coast­line past Kuri Bay, home to the Pas­pa­ley Pearl Farm and the beau­ti­ful Mont­gomery Reef.
• Fly over Hor­i­zon­tal Water­falls* described by Sir David Atten­bor­ough as the 8 th Nat­ur­al Won­der of the World.
• Mar­vel at the stun­ning Buc­ca­neer Arch­i­pel­ago and it’s 1 , 000 islands and the stun­ning north­ern tip of the Dampi­er Penin­su­la, Cape Leveque.
• Coastal return flight along the bays and beach­es of the Dampi­er Penin­su­la with views of Bea­gle Bay, James Price Point, Willie Creek Pearl Farm and world-famous Cable Beach as the sun sets over the Indi­an Ocean. 

* The 4 km walk from Punamii-unpuu camp site to the Mitchell Falls will be the high­light of your vis­it, we allow 2  hours to com­plete the hike. The ter­rain on this walk­ing trail can be dif­fi­cult (Class 5  grad­ed walk) and requires a high lev­el of fit­ness. Care should be tak­en due to uneven sur­faces, water cross­ings, cliffs and gorges. For any guests who are unable to com­plete the walk or can­cel on the day will not receive a refund and will be liable for any addi­tion­al costs incurred. 

*Please also note that should the Mitchell Falls cease to flow we may sus­pend the remain­der of the Mitchell Falls tour sea­son schedule. 

*The Hor­i­zon­tal Water­falls is a nat­ur­al phe­nom­e­non which is tide depen­dant with vari­able flow. We can­not guar­an­tee the amount or lev­el of water flow­ing through the Hor­i­zon­tal Water­falls when over­fly­ing due to the struc­tured tour schedule.

HELI BOTH WAYS WITH­OUT THE   WALK

From time to time we do have a Mitchell Falls tour which includes heli trans­fers both ways to see the falls which does­n’t include the walk. This includes return heli­copter trans­fers from the Mitchell Falls camp­ground to the Mitchell Falls with 2  hours to relax, explore, swim and have lunch. • The return jour­ney takes you through some of Aus­trali­a’s most untouched wilder­ness, abun­dant with wildlife, search for dugongs, man­ta rays, sea tur­tles, ham­mer­head and tiger sharks as well as count­less migra­to­ry birds and ter­ri­to­r­i­al birds of prey. 
• On return­ing to Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm, enjoy lunch at their on-site restrau­rant fol­lowed by a Pearl Farm Dis­cov­ery Tour learn­ing about the his­to­ry of Cygnet Bay and how they cul­ture some of the finest pearls in the world.
• After a return to the airstrip, we depart for a scenic flight over­head One Arm Point, Mid­dle Pas­sage, Sun­day Island explor­ing the very places vis­it­ed on your Oolin Sun­day Island tour from above mar­vel­ling at the stun­ning colours of the Buc­ca­neer Archipelago.
• Over­fly the Hor­i­zon­tal Falls before track­ing back over the 1 , 000 island arch­i­pel­ago, over­head Cape Lev­eque and a stun­ning low lev­el coastal flight back to Broome explor­ing the many beau­ti­ful bays and beach­es of the Dampi­er Peninsula.

All bookings will be confirmed once minimum numbers are met to operate the tour. When booking online full payment will be taken at time of booking. If we are unable to immediately confirm the flight the booking will be placed 'on hold' pending minimum numbers. If for some reason we are unable to confirm the booking a full refund will be issued.

Tours and rates are based on a minimum of 4 passengers and subject to availability and/or flight loads at the time of booking. Children are classified as 3-12 years of age. Infants are classified as 0-2 years of age and may be carried free of charge on the lap of a parent. We observe a baggage allowance of 5kg per person. You must clearly communicate any special dietary requirements or food allergies at time of booking. Air Kimberley reserves the right to amend or cancel flight itineraries/flight routes due to weather and/or unforeseen circumstances.

For safety and operational requirements Air Kimberley observes a maximum individual weight of 120kg per per person for all scenic tours.

Cancellation Policy

No refund will apply for cancellations within 48 hours of the tour departure. 3-7 days prior to departure will incur a 50% cancellation fee.

We’re Fly Broome, the Kimberley’s newest and most exciting scenic flight operator.

We may be young, excited and adventure-hungry, but don’t think for a moment we’re mere fledglings. With a team of experienced pilots led by Chief Pilot Nigel – former UK Royal Navy pilot, King Air flight inspection pilot for navigation aid throughout Australia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Singapore and scenic charter flight pilot across Australia – there’s nothing we know more about than flying.

Family owned and operated – and oriented – we’re one big family here and our fearless leader, Bookings Manager and all-round hero Leanne will soon make it clear that includes you, too. We’re on the tarmac arms open and engines ready to welcome you to Broome as if it were our home. Because it is.

So when you fly with us, we want to send you home with more than a postcard. We want to give you the story that’s going on the back. We may be a scenic flight operator, but we know there’s more to the Kimberley than pretty pictures.

That’s an easy one – yes. Every one of our passengers enjoys a window seat on board. That’s a nonnegotiable for us. We’re here to showcase the best of Broome, and we don’t want you to miss a bit of it.

Absolutely! You’ll be seeing some of the most spectacular beauty the world has to offer and we hardly blame you for wanting to capture a part of it for your fridge. A word of warning though… your snaps are unlikely to really do it justice, but we’d love to see the attempts all the same! Tag us over on the gram @flybroome.

Of course they are. Lucky kids! Infants and children under three fly free, though must sit on your lap (a special safety belt is provided). We find most little ones fall asleep pretty quickly with the gentle humming of the engine so we can’t promise they’ll remember much… so be sure to take a picture to prove your status as the best parent in the world.

Yes, we regularly take pregnant women on board. However, we understand every woman and every pregnancy is different, so it’s really up to you! If you have any concerns, please consult your doctor before you fly.

Absolutely. We take very good care of our older passengers and those who require a little extra assistance. We can also arrange vehicles to support less mobile passengers when we land for our stopovers, so do let us know if this is something you require at the time of booking. If you have any concerns around accessibility, please contact us prior to booking to discuss any specific requirements and we will do everything we can to support them.

No you don’t, thankfully it is no longer a requirement to provide proof of vaccination.

None of our tours include a jet boat through the Horizontal Falls. We only overfly the Horizontal Falls which makes for spectacular viewing from above! If you would like to do a boat ride, please join our Full Day Fly the Falls Air Adventure which includes a Sea Safari from Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm to experience the Giant Tides.

Of course! Please advise any dietary requirements in advance and we will notify the destinations providing meals and refreshments. With adequate notice most requirements can be met. Please bear in mind that some of the destinations are remote, so the earlier we know the better!

Yes there is, the individual weight limit per person on our tours is 120kg. Accurate individual passenger weights must be provided at the time of booking. Failure to provide accurate weights may result in the passenger(s) being unable to fly.

Great question – and yes, it’s beautiful and balmy all year round! But don’t worry, our brilliant bookings team has thought of everything. You’ll find extra water bottles on board and frozen towels to keep you cool!

Plan Your Holiday To Australia’s North West

How far in advance should i book.

We are experiencing a high volume of enquiries and visitors to the region this year, so we recommend booking as soon as you know your dates to avoid disappointment. 

Is there a passenger weight limit?

Yes, maximum passenger weight allowed is 130kg. All passengers and bags will be weighed prior to departure for safety and operational reasons. If the aircraft payload is exceeded on the day, we reserve the right to deny travel to passengers whose weight information provided at the time of booking is inaccurate by +5kgs or more, in which case no refund will be provided.

How hard is the Mitchell Falls hike?

The hike has a Class 5 rating and requires a high level of fitness. The trail is mainly in the direct sun with minimal shade. Parts of the trail involve climbing over rocks, uneven ground and a water crossing. We allow 2 hours to complete the 4km hike. A waiver form will need to be signed on the morning of tour by all passengers prior to departing. Please contact our office if you would like to read this waiver form prior to booking.

If you have concerns regarding your hiking ability our Mitchell Falls Coastal Adventure tour from Kununurra is a good alternative. 

What size aircraft do you use and how many people do they fit?

We have two different size seaplanes, our smaller Cessna 206 Seaplane carries 4-5 passengers, our larger Cessna 208 Amphibious Seaplane carries 9 passengers.

We have three different fixed wing aircraft  - Cessna 210 holds up to 5 passengers, Cessna 207 holds up to 6 passengers and the Cessna 208 holds 13 passengers.

All dependant on passenger weights, with guaranteed window seats on all tours.

Will I get a window seat?

Yes, we guarantee a window seat on ALL tours.

How many people do you need to confirm a booking?

We will confirm a tour with 2 passengers subject to availability.

Does the weather affect the tours?

Generally, weather is not an issue throughout the Kimberley dry season. However, weather is one of the few things we can’t control so there are the very rare occasions where we may need to delay or reschedule tours in order to give you the best possible touring experience.

What seniors card do you accept for the senior rate?

A valid Australian Seniors card or Pensioner card for your country of residence must be presented at time of booking to receive the Senior rate. Senior rates only apply to selected tours.

What is the difference between the Bungle Bungle & Lake Argyle Island Experience by seaplane and the Bungle Bungle Air Adventure by fixed wing aircraft?

Taking off from the waters edge on Lake Kununurra, our seaplane Bungle Bungle tour is a real thrill for those who haven’t been in a seaplane before! Flying low level over Lake Argyle and touching down on the water for morning or afternoon tea at a remote island is an amazing experience. Our fixed wing Bungle Bungle tour, while also showcasing Lake Argyle, the Bungles and the Argyle Diamond Mine, provides a great alternative for those looking for a cheaper alternative without compromising quality. The fixed wing tour is also good for those who may be stretched for time as it’s a 2 hour flight as opposed to the 3 hours for the seaplane tour.

Can you hold seats for me?

Unfortunately, we can’t put seats on hold. Full payment is required to confirm all bookings.

I’m a keen photographer, will I get good photos on my tour?

All of our aircraft are high winged and therefore excellent for sightseeing and taking photos. Combine this with our guaranteed window seats and you’ll have the best opportunity to capture those awesome photos you’re after.

Can infants and children travel on tours?

They certainly can. Infants aged 0 – 2 years travel free of charge on the lap of a parent and are restrained with an infant strap. Children aged 3 – 12 years occupy their own seat.

Can I travel if I am pregnant?

We certainly take pregnant women on board however we recommend you consult your doctor prior to your tour.

How do I get to Kununurra?

By Air Virgin Australia, Nexus Airlines and AirNorth have flights to Kununurra from Perth, Broome and Darwin. There are several car hire companies based at the Kununurra Airport for those who need to rent a vehicle for the duration of their stay.

By Road Travelling by road is the most popular way to reach Kununurra. Kununurra is situated on the Victoria Highway 42km west of the Western Australia/ Northern Territory Border. If travelling from Perth or Broome, the Victoria highway is accessible from the Great Northern Highway. If travelling from Darwin or Katherine, the Victoria Highway is accessible from the Stuart Highway.

By Bus Greyhound Australia operates a bus service between Broome and Darwin via Kununurra. Please check their website for the most up to date timetable.
