About the Disney Fantasy

One year after the maiden voyage of the Disney Dream , her twin sister, the Disney Fantasy set sail on March 31, 2012, joining the Disney Cruise Line fleet of ships (including Disney  Magic and the Disney Wonder) .

Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship: Minnie Mouse Statue

How Big is the Disney Fantasy?

Over 130,000 tons in weight, the Disney Fantasy is 1115 feet long from bow to stern. The ship was made to be the twin sister of the  Disney Dream.

CAPACITY Passengers: 4000 Staterooms: 1250 Crew (aka "Cast Members"): 1400

The Crew-to-Passenger ratio equals out to one Cast Member for every 2.8 guests!

Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

  • The Disney Fantasy is 1,115 feet which is longer than the height of the Eiffel Tower in Paris and longer than the height of New York City’s famous Chrysler Building
  • The interior is decorated in art nouveau style, characterized by geometric designs and bold, solid colors
  • Each of the 4 DCL ships has a unique statue in their atrium lobby. Disney Fantasy's Statue is Mademoiselle Minnie Mouse
  • Mariah Carey is the Godmother of the Disney Fantasy
  • Disney was granted special permission by the U.S. Coast Guard to paint its lifeboats yellow – rather than the traditional regulation color of orange – to preserve the Mickey Mouse color palette of red, yellow and black
  • Staterooms are 25% larger than the current industry average
  • On the carpet in the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream stateroom corridors, a ship’s wheel encompasses a map of the world and nautical flags spell out the name of the ship
  • The stern (back end of the ship) features Dumbo and Timothy
  • The bow (front end of the ship) features Sorcerer Mickey

Want the Disney Fantasy Map?

Is that included, disney fantasy dining, main dining, about disney fantasy restaurants.

Like the other ships in the DCL fleet, the Disney Fantasy features "Rotational Dining."

To mix up your dinner dining enjoyment, guests rotate between three main restaurants, offering a  unique dining experience every night. Your server, assistant server and the rest of dinner staff will move with you.

Here are the Disney Fantasy restaurants that are part of the rotational dining.

Enchanted Garden Restaurant on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

Image: Disney Cruise Line

Enchanted Garden

Enjoy dinner in a backdrop that simulates a French conservatory. During the meal, the ceiling changes colors, starting with a vibrant blue color to serve as daytime, transforming to a golden red color to mimic the setting sun, finally finishing in a brilliant night sky full of starlight.

The light fixtures in the dining room will "bloom" during your meal. It's the subtle effects of this dining room that make it so delightful.

Royal Court Restaurant on Disney Dream Cruise Ship

Royal Court

Dining in the Royal Court places you smack in the middle of a Disney fairytale.

The room's design showcases the classic settings of films such as Snow White , Sleeping Beauty , and Beauty and the Beast.

The wall murals are opulent, classic, and gorgeous. Take some time to gaze at each one.

Disney Fantasy Animator's Palate

Animator's Palate

My favorite interactive dining experience of all Disney themed dining rooms takes place here in Animator's Palate. Disney animations come to life before your eyes. We won't reveal too much of the secret sauce here, but check out my Animator's Palate tips here - make sure to read tips #43-46.

Casual Dining

Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship Cabanas Buffet

Cabanas is the main buffet restaurant. It tends to be the most highly visited place to eat because of the flexibility in schedule (you can eat pretty much whenever you want) but there is usually plenty of capacity. Cabanas serves breakfast, lunch and dinner (in case you'd like to skip your rotational dining or you're late to the Main Dining seating). Entrees, appetizers, salads, snacks, and desserts of so many varieties are available. Some offerings will change from meal to meal, while others are regular mainstays on the menu. If you find a favorite dish, (Mickey Mouse pancakes anyone?) this can be a nice go-to option for finicky eaters, especially your little ones.

Disney Fantasy Preludes

EYE SCREAM TREATS

Disney Fantasy Frozone Smoothies

FROZONE TREATS

Disney Fantasy Flo's Cafe

If you don't want to wander too far from the pool, these three foods stations are covered with shade and serve pizza, burgers, chicken nuggets, and chips.

Disney Fantasy Senses Juice Bar

SENSES JUICE BAR

Just like its name implies, purchase fruit & vegetable juice combinations. Found next to Senses Spa and Salon.  Additional fees apply.

Disney Fantasy Sweet on You

SWEET ON YOU

Premium ice cream, decadent milkshakes and hand-crafted gelato are highlights of this "sweet shop" that is themed after Mickey and Minnie Mouse shorts. Additional charges apply for the goodies sold here.

Disney Fantasy Beverage Station

BEVERAGE STATION

The drinks here are FREE. Your options include water, soda, juices, coffee, tea, milk, fruit punch, lemonade, and hot cocoa.

The bars and lounges on board will charge you for sodas, but it is free here. Check out tip #48 on my Disney Cruise Tips to enjoy more free soda.

Disney Fantasy Room Service Menu

ROOM SERVICE

Brought to your stateroom

Disney Fantasy's room service menu is impressive. It is almost completely free, and options available at any time of the night or day.

To get more advice about room service, read tips 54-59 of my 101 Disney Cruise Tips .

Exclusive Dining

Looking for an adult only meal? Or something that will make your little one beam for days on end? The Disney Fantasy offers exclusive dining opportunities to fulfill those wishes.

Palo Restaurant on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

Image: Brownie Bites

This is a signature Disney dining  experience and it is available only for adults.

In our opinion, the Northern Italian menu is worth the premium fee you pay for it. When you top off the delicious kids-free meal with gorgeous seascapes, you have a brunch or dinner to remember.

Reservations are required and there's a dress code as well, please  refer to our Disney Cruise packing list for suggestions on what to wear.

Remy Restaurant on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

This is the Disney Fantasy's finest dining experience and it is available only for adults.

Dinner at this Parisian themed restaurant is made up of multiple tasting courses. Remy also offers a champagne brunch, a 5-course dessert menu, and Petites Assiettes de Remy featuring small plates and fine wine (only available on the first night of your cruise).

As with Palo, reservations are required and the dress code is mandatory.  Refer to our Disney Cruise packing list for clothing suggestions.

Royal Court Royal Tea on Disney Fantasy

Royal Court Royal Tea

Deck 3 at Royal Court

Little princes or princesses (3 to 12) can join their favorite Disney characters for a tea party. While this tea party has an additional fee, it includes a chance to meet one-on-one with the princesses and take home a few royal gifts.

DISNEY FANTASY ENTERTAINMENT

Every evening on the Disney Fantasy, an exciting entertainment event will be put on in the Walt Disney Theatre.

Guests get to witness performances that are truly Broadway-level in quality. Also frequenting the stage are musicians, jugglers, ventriloquists, hypnotists, or comedians. Sometimes they put up a feature movie on a massive screen. The movie is usually a Disney-owned film that is new or due to theaters.

The Walt Disney Theatre is located on Decks 3 and 4 Forward.

Aladdin the Musical on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

Aladdin - a Musical Spectacular

The classic songs and scenes of Disney's adored  Aladdin come to life on the stage in the Walt Disney Theatre on every  Disney Fantasy voyage.

Frozen the Musical on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

This Fall: Frozen, A Musical Spectacular

On October 26, the Fantasy will enjoy showings of the theatrical production of Frozen. Coincides perfectly with the release of the movie "Frozen 2."

Disney Wishes - shown on Disney Fantasy cruise ship

Disney Wishes

This engaging musical tells the story of three high schoolers who are just about to graduate. Together with beloved Disney characters from classic movies, they learn how to remain a "kid at heart" even while moving to young adulthood.

Disney Fantasy: Pirate Night! See the shows and fireworks!

Pirate Night

Don on your best pirate outfit (puffy shirt, anyone) to get ready for a fun day of pirate activities , character meet and greets, and the best deck party that Disney Cruise Line has to offer.

The night finishes up with a bang, as Disney Fantasy shoots fireworks into the night sky.

Note: some sailings (like some Alaska) don't do the fireworks.

Character Greetings

Meet and Greet Characters on Disney Fantasy

Meet and Greets

I guess we're just big kids, because some of our favorite moments on a  Disney Cruise is meeting our favorite characters.

Pack an autograph book ( see our packing list ) and see how many signatures you can collect.

They mix up the times and characters to meet each day, so keep your eye on the DCL app each day.

Frozen Meet and Greet on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

Free Ticketed Events

These events require tickets (they're free at online checkin):

  • Frozen Meet and Greet
  • Princess Gathering
  • Heroic Encounters
  • Star Wars Character Experience

Tickets are limited so reserve them during online checkin . If they are sold out, visit Guest Services as soon as you get on the ship; there are often tickets available there.

Disney Fantasy: Disney Character Breakfast

Character Breakfast

On select 7+ night cruises, you can eat breakfast with Disney and Disney Junior Characters. They go from table to table, posing for photos, giving high fives, and saying hi.

Tickets are FREE, but they are limited. Again, you'll want to jump on these during online check-in .

Midship Detective Agency: Disney Cruise Interactive Game

Midship Detective Agency

This interactive game will take you all over the ship trying to solve a fun mystery.

On Deck 5, pick up a badge at the kiosk. You'll get clues that lead you to artwork around the ship that comes to life when you wave your badge at it.

There are various stories and randomized possible endings.

D Lounge on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

The whole family is welcome to party the night away at the D Lounge. We have had some legendary Karaoke moments here as a family. Music, games and live entertainment are just a few of the attractions you’ll find here.

Disney Fantasy: Buena Vista Theatre

Buena Vista Theatre

Disney Fantasy: Funnel Vision

Funnel Vision

Funnel Vision is a giant screen that shows Disney movies while you chill on Deck 9 or swim in Goofy’s Pool.

Called “Funnel Vision” because it’s mounted onto the forward funnel of the ship.

It's a huge LED screen, totally state of the art.

DISNEY FANTASY POOLS

Goofy Pool on Disney Fantasy

Mickey's Pool & Slide

Shaped like a Mickey head, this freshwater kids pool is just 2 feet deep, making it a safe place for little ones (ages 3 and up) to splash.

Close by is spiraling Mickey's slide. The slide is approximately "one deck tall" and is available to kids 4-14 years old and in the range of 38"-64" tall.

Donald's Pool on Disney Fantasy

Donald's Pool

Rectangular in shape, Donald's pool sits directly in front of the big Funnel Vision screen. It will be a busy hub on days at sea, with deck chairs surrounding it.

AquaDuck on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

Truly a Disney innovation, the AquaDuck was the first "roller coaster at sea".

To ride, start at Deck 12, climb a flight of stairs to Deck 16 (the highest point you can reach on the ship.)

Sit down in an inflatable plastic raft and get launched for a wet ride through a 765-foot-long clear tube track that will have you circle the ship.

Single riders must be at least 54" tall, but children that are 42" tall can ride with someone ages 14 and up.

Disney Fantasy: Nemo's Reef

Image: Youtube

Nemo's Reef

Splash pad with a fun Finding Nemo theme for kids ages 3 and under. Water spurts all over; coming up from the floor and jetting from replicas of characters from the movie.

Disney Fantasy: Funnel Puddle Pool

Funnel Puddle Pool

Disney Fantasy: Quiet Cove Pool

Quiet Cove Pool

This adult-only area is reserved to be a quiet sanctuary for grownups to escape the kids...err, relax and unwind. It's much quieter and they serve cocktails. Must be age 18+.

Disney Fantasy: Satellite Falls Pool

Satellite Falls

My escape literally every day at sea. I took a book and loved just gazing out at the endless horizon of sea. A shallow pool surrounded by comfortable deck chairs - with your choice of sun or shade. Must be age 18+.

DISNEY FANTASY CONCIERGE

Concierge lounge.

Concierge guests will enjoy this luxurious, chic escape from the rest of the ship.

The Concierge Level Lounge allows guests to access the internet, drink a cocktail, watch news or sports on a huge TV, and partake of complimentary beverages and food served throughout the day.

The Concierge staff is always here to answer any questions or provide additional personal assistance with anything you need.

Concierge Sundeck

Connected to the Concierge Lounge, you'll find a sundeck available only to Concierge level guests.

Head up a short flight of stairs from the Lounge and you'll find a premium sunbathing location unavailable to the rest of your shipmates. Perched above the Quiet Cove Pool, it's a quiet area for sunning and relaxing.

It has plenty of shade if you want or sun if you prefer in comfortable chairs. You can also step out onto Satellite Falls if desired, and simply pop back into the private area with your badge. If you want a quick snack, just walk the steps down to the Lounge.

Towels and sunscreen are provided.

OTHER ONBOARD SERVICES

Health center.

The Health Center is available when you're feeling sick, need first aid or have a medical emergency.

The clinic keeps regular daily hours to offer care for non-emergencies. If you have an emergency, the ship has a doctor and nurse on call 24/7.

Tender Lobbies

Guest services.

Got a question or request? This is your place. I have found the crew that manages Guest Services to be very responsive and caring.

They can help you make spa appointments or dining reservations, plan your vacation by explaining activities, ship amenities, and the ship schedule.

Questions with your bill are handled here. You may also request a free crib or diaper genie here. Book these when you first arrive to make sure you get one.

Port Adventures Desk

Onboard sales desk.

Plan and book future Disney Cruises. Why would you book a Disney cruise while on a Disney cruise, you ask? You’d be surprised by how many people do!

It’s all about the perks. It’s pretty much the only way to get a Disney cruise for a discounted price.

Here’s the low down:

  • 10% discount on prevailing rates on your next cruise (concierge-level excluded)
  • Stateroom credit of $100 (3-6 nights) or $200 (7-night cruises or longer)
  • Reduced deposit on 7-night sailings or longer

You don’t have to decide on a date while on the ship. Just put a $250 deposit down as a placeholder for a future cruise and sail within the next 24 months.

Laundry Facilities

Decks 2,5,6,7,8

The Dream’s self-serve laundry facilities are located on the following decks:

  • Deck 2 Forward
  • Deck 6 Forward
  • Deck 7 Forward
  • Deck 9 Forward

Or if you prefer, full-service laundry and dry cleaning is available as well. Just contact Guest Services for pickup.

Dis veteran.

It depends on what type of room you want. If possible, it's best to have other staterooms above and below you. If you want a verandah, then Decks 7, 8, and 9 are good choices, since they have staterooms both above and below. The same is true of much of Deck 6. Be careful with Deck 10, since much of it has the lido deck or the buffet above. If you want a larger than normal verandah, you can book a Cat. 4E room on Deck 5. Unlike Cat. 4A - 4D, these rooms are normal sized, but have larger verandahs. If you tell us more about what type of room you want, we can help you further.

By the way, this is a thread I started a while ago that explains all of the different categories of stateroom on the ship. You may find it helpful. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3231583

thank you for your replies and information we would like to stay in a room with a balacony or a deluxe ocean stateroom with a large porthole. to sleep 4 people 2 adults and 2 child. I hear don't get a room next to the elevator. I don't know of any other information you need so let me know what else you need to know to help me pick out the right room , we were thinking of staying on either deck 7 or 8.

We've done a deluxe family oceanview with the large porthole on both decks 7 and 8 both forward (these are located forward and towards the rear) and next time are doing mid-ship deluxe family with a veranda sticking to deck 8, which we find a good compromise in walking up or down when not using the elevators. You will get as many opinions as people replying about the best location on the ship (read the stateroom reviews) but we've chosen a deluxe veranda this time to be as close to mid-ship as possible for being forward the last two times, we did notice the ships motion. Walking the corridors one does notice more vibration in the rear (whether this translates to noise in the cabins I do not know) than you notice in the bow or mid-ship.

We loved our cat 6B - aft verandah cabins on deck 5. 5190/5192 Was also nice to have the laundry right there. We have kids so loved being on the same level as the kids club and nursery. I am a verandah snob though, and I love the extended balconies! Definitely decide what your priorities are - reducing noise, reducing motion, balcony size, proximitiy to various features on the ship... etc. Budget may help you choose a category. For us, 6B was the least expensive cabin with verandah, so we started there. That will help you narrow it down!

I think you will get a lot of different answers to this question. We like staying aft, 8th or 9th deck. We also like the 7a rooms (not all of them though). It is close enough to Cabanas and the pool deck and drink station. Also we stay near the elevators and have never had a problem with noise or anything. I guess you might if you are near the midship elevators. They are the busiest. I doubt it is a problem there either though. We do like the large porthole rooms. The window seat is a nice place to spend some time. If you get a "family" category room you will also have the round tub and rain shower head. Also some people like starboard v/s port side for various reasons but nothing that will make or break your trip. Ex. CC is visible out your window starboard side. Going south the moon will be out your starboard window, but portside coming back. Also true for sunrises or sunsets. Fireworks go off starboard side. And the list goes on...

We like veranda rooms on deck 9. We have stayed both forward and aft and both are fine. We had room 10656 on deck 10 once and asked to be moved. The machine that cleans the balconies is parked to the right of the balcony obstructing your view in that direction. I know that it is not there "all" of the time but we were told by our cabin attendant that was where it stayed most of the time.

mama2mickeyfans said: As the numbers get lower 7,6,5,4 the categories improve = higher cost. Higher cost is associated with 1) more sq foot or 2) better perceived location on board or 3) combination of things On one deck there may be many different categories available (be sure to look at deck plans) 4>5 Within a Number there are subcategories 4A>4C Others can better explain the precise differences in each category you are considering. We prefer being closer to the aft elevators than anywhere else on ship. You can easily get up to cabanas for extra drinks (or food) easy to get to Animators, Palo, and Remy. Not to mention the sports deck and adult only spaces. We didn't spend much time in either theater in October so being near those and the adult sun deck didn't really matter.

thank you for the link of the cabin report list so if i pick cabin o5c deck 7 it says it has plexiglas oversized balcanies facing aft with white wall. is this midship or and the end by the aft.

Get to Know the Disney Cruise Line Pools

Advertisements for Disney Cruise Line inevitably features shots of happy families splashing in the shipboard pools. Those shots might even be enough to entice you to book your first sailing. While there are indeed multiple freshwater pools on every Disney Cruise Line ship but, depending on your perspective, you may or not find them as relaxing and refreshing as they look in the candy-colored advertising.

Here’s everything you need to know about the pools on the Disney Cruise Line ships, the Dream and Fantasy (sister ships), the Magic and Wonder (sister ships), and the Wish. The Disney Treasure is making her maiden voyage later this year, from everything we’ve seen from DCL, you can assume that Treasure pool situation will be substantially similar to her sister ship, the Wish.

Where are the Disney Cruise Line pools?

The primary pool decks for each ship are located on upper decks. There are also additional pools in other locations:

  • Goofy’s Pool (family pool)
  • Quiet Cove (adult pool)
  • AquaLab (children’s water play area)
  • Nephew’s Splash Zone (small children’s water play area)
  • Mickey’s Pool (family pool)
  • Donald’s Pool (family pool)
  • Vibe Pool (teen pool)
  • Funnel Puddle (soak pool)
  • Satellite Falls (soak pool)
  • Nemo’s Reef (small children’s water play area)
  • Minnie’s Pool (family pool)
  • Daisy’s Pool (wading pool)
  • Pluto’s Pool (wading pool)
  • Trixie’s Pool (soak pool)
  • Donald’s Pool (soak pool)
  • Goofy’s Pool (soak pool)
  • Toy Story Splash Zone (small children’s water play area)
  • Quiet Cove Pool (adult wading pool)
  • Quiet Cove Infinity Pool (adult pool)
  • Chip & Dale Pool (quiet soak pool)
  • Concierge Pool (wading pool)

Do the pools have specific hours?

Pool hours vary every day depending on the ship’s itinerary and the weather. Check your Personal Navigator app for the most up to date hours. In general, you can expect to find the primary pools on each ship open from about 9:00 a.m. until about 9:00 p.m. However, the pools will close earlier than that whenever there is an outdoor deck party. (During parties, the pools are covered with wooden decking to make more room for guests to stand.)

Pools will close if there is lightning anywhere near the ship or in the case of exceptionally rough seas.

disney cruise fantasy decks

I heard something about pool reservations. Do I need to make reservations to use the pool?

During the immediate post-COVID return to sailing, reservations and time limits were in place for DCL pool use. These restrictions have been gone for years now. You can feel free to use the DCL pools whenever they’re open, for as long as you want.

What kind of seating is at the pools? Can I reserve seating?

The main pool decks feature a variety of seating styles including standard chairs and loungers. In the family areas the chairs have woven mesh fabric. In the adult areas the chairs are padded cushions.

Disney includes a “No Reserved Seats Policy” in the fine print section of the DCL Navigator app. There is no aggressive signage to this effect on the pool deck itself. I’ve rarely seen the policy enforced. That said, it really is impolite to stake out your spot well before the pool opens or to leave a chair occupied with your belongings if you’re leaving the pool area for an extended period of time. This is very much a Golden Rule situation.

disney cruise fantasy decks

How large are the pools? Can I swim laps?

Ha! Laps? Hahahahahaha!!! Um, no. Disney Cruise ship pools are much smaller than they look on flyover drone images. There are no lap lanes, no lap swim times, and even if the largest pools were empty (which they rarely are), you wouldn’t be able to get more than two or threes strokes in before you’d have to turn around.

Cruise ship pools are for cooling off, not for actually swimming.

How deep are the pools?

The DCL pools range from 6″ deep to 4’6″ deep. The large family pools have a maximum depth of 4′ or 4’6″

Are there lifeguards at the Disney ship pools?

Yes, there are lifeguards at DCL family pools whenever they are open to guests. Some of the smaller pools and water play areas may not have lifeguards. Children must be accompanied by an adult in the pool areas.

What is the water temperature like?

All are heated to a minimum temperature of 75°F. During sailings in the Caribbean and Bahamas (for example), the sunlight and air temperature will raise the water temperature.

I’m taking a cruise to Alaska. Will the pools be open?

Generally, yes. I’ve taken DCL cruises to Alaska, Northern Europe, and Iceland. Even when the air temperature is chilly (in the 50s F), you’ll still see people in the pools.

Are there towels available at the pools?

Yes, there are towels available for guest use located near the DCL pools. Use as many as you need.

On cooler weather cruises (like Alaska), you’ll also find piles of fleece blankets placed near the pool towels. You may see hardy children splashing the water while their parents on the deck nearby wearing sweatshirts and wrapped in blankets.

disney cruise fantasy decks

Are the pools crowded? When are the pools less crowded?

The largest DCL pools (on the Dream and Fantasy) have a maximum capacity of about 70 guests. My unscientific observation is that the pools start to look uncomfortably crowded at about half that. These ships have a maximum guest capacity of about 4,000, so you do the math.

You’ll find that the pools are less crowded when the ship is in port, because a substantial number of guests are off exploring on land, and during the evening dinner/show hours.

disney cruise fantasy decks

Are there quiet pools for adults?

Yes, every Disney Cruise Line ship has an area reserved for guests 18+. These areas all include a Quiet Cove pool.

disney cruise fantasy decks

Are there hot tubs or jacuzzis on the Disney ships?

Yes, there are hot tubs on the main pool decks of every ship. Additionally you’ll find hot tubs near the adult pools and in the outdoor area of the Senses spa on the Wish. There are hot tubs or misting areas in the outdoor portions of the concierge lounges, open only to concierge guests.

disney cruise fantasy decks

Are the kiddie pools onboard?

Sort of, there are kiddie water play areas on all the ships specifically designed for small children. Although there are low-depth pools on the ships (ranging from 6″-24″ deep), diaper-age children are not allowed in these pools.

disney cruise fantasy decks

What’s the situation with diaper-age children? Can they go in any pools?

DCL’s swim-diaper policy states: “The United States Public Health Service requires that only children who are toilet trained are permitted to enter swimming pools and spas aboard cruise ships.” Swim diapers are not permitted in hot tubs, spas, or any pools or waterslides, including the AquaDuck, AquaDunk, and AquaLab. Little ones wearing swim diapers are permitted at Nemo’s Reef on the Dream and Fantasy, at Nephews’ Splash Zone on the Magic, Dory’s Reef on the Wonder, and Toy Story Splash Zone and the AquaMouse on the Wish.

If poop happens in the pool, all guests must evacuate and the pool must then be drained, cleaned, refilled, and tested for bacteria and chemical balance. The entire procedure takes about 4–5 hours depending on the size of the pool—so don’t be that parent who let your almost-but-not-quite-potty-trained child into the water and ended up spoiling an afternoon for hundreds of other families. Remember, too, that on a cruise, even potty-trained kids may get distracted or overwhelmed; plus, unfamiliar foods may make new digestive demands. Swim diapers, in limited sizes, are available for purchase in the ships’ gift shops.

disney cruise fantasy decks

Can my child wear goggles in the pool?

Swim goggles that fit only over the eyes are permitted at all onboard pools, hot tubs, and waterslides, with the exception of AquaDunk aboard the Disney Magic, where goggles are not allowed.

Swim masks that cover the eyes and nose are permitted at all pools. They are not allowed on any slides, including AquaDuck. Snorkels are not permitted at any pools, hot tubs or waterslides.

Can my kids wear water wings in the pool?

Water wings and other US Coast Guard–approved flotation devices are allowed, but rafts, floats, and foam noodles are not. There are child-sized floatation vests available to borrow at no charge, find them near the family pools on all ships.

disney cruise fantasy decks

Is there any pool area for teens?

The Dream and Fantasy have teen-only pools accessible through their Vibe teen clubs. Be aware, however, that hours tend to be limited.

disney cruise fantasy decks

Are there food and drinks available by the pools?

The primary pools are on the same deck as the ships’ buffet and quick service restaurants, and the free soft-service ice cream pumps. There are bars near the main pools and the adult pools. Glass containers are not permitted on the pool deck.

Is there any entertainment or other activities near the pool?

The main pool deck on all the ships is positioned under a giant “FunnelVision” screen that shows Disney movies throughout the day.

It looks like the Wish has more pools than the other ships. What’s up with that?

Unlike the family pools on the other ships, which are all on one level, most of the Wish’s pools are staggered on several levels, stadium-style, between Decks 11 and 12. Stairs connect the various pool tiers; guests with mobility issues may need to head back indoors and take the elevator to access some of the water areas. The six family pools vary in size and depth. Mickey’s Pool, closest to the FunnelVision screen, is most similar in size and design to the main pools on the other DCL ships. The panoply of pools on the Wish could be an issue for single adults in charge of monitoring multiple children. If you think your kids will want to sample lots of pools and water-play areas, set some ground rules about whether they need to stick together or how they’ll let you know which pool they’re visiting.

Are you a Disney Cruise Line pool person? Do you like to swim on the ships?

How my family of 4 spent $10,000 on a Caribbean cruise — and what we'll cut next time even though we had a blast

  • My family of four splurged on a seven-night Caribbean cruise aboard the Disney Fantasy .
  • We stayed in an inexpensive class of stateroom, but paid $7,000+ to cruise during spring break.
  • We didn't watch our onboard spending and money spent on excursions, which quickly added up.

Insider Today

My family of four – my husband, two teens, and myself – sailed on the Disney Fantasy this spring. Our cruise was seven nights and left from Port Canaveral , Florida, near Orlando.

Our ship stopped in Grand Cayman, Falmouth, Jamaica, Cozumel, Mexico, and Disney's island, Castaway Cay . This was our first time sailing on the Fantasy and our ninth Disney cruise.

Our trip cost just over $10,000. Perhaps surprisingly, this is on par with the higher end of what a family can expect to spend on a seven-night Caribbean cruise: about $270 to $2,600 a person .

Here's a rough look at what we spent:

Cruise: $7,300 (includes interior room, meals, and entertainment)

Excursions: $1,160

Alcohol: $334

Bingo: $152

Here's the value we felt we got and what we might do differently next time.

We got the cheapest room type but would've saved by sailing at a different time of year

Even though we stayed in the cheapest stateroom category — interior cabins — our cruise was still pricey because we sailed during spring break.

We could've saved $3,000 on the cruise if we'd went in September, which is during hurricane season and while school is in session for our kids. In the end, we couldn't justify our sons missing that week of school.

Related stories

Sadly, there's not much getting around this cost in the next few years. It's hard for us to travel during cheaper times since cruises almost always cost more during spring break, summertime, and over the winter holidays when most kids are out of school.

I don't regret our WiFi or bingo budgets

We bought an intermediate WiFi package for $490 and spent $152 on bingo.

We don't usually spend money on WiFi while cruising, but decided to get a package since this was a longer sailing . This allowed my kids to play their online games at night and me to keep an eye on my inbox.

No one was glued to their device, and even though this was quite a chunk of change, I'd consider it again for a longer cruise like this one.

The bingo turned out to be an OK investment since we won $145 and almost broke even. We usually play at least one round of bingo and usually don't win much, but my kids enjoy it, and it's something we do as a family.

Still, excursions, spa treatments, and drinks added up

We booked excursions in Grand Cayman, Jamaica, and Cozumel, and my husband and I had a couple's massage on the beach at Castaway Cay.

We didn't book super elaborate excursions, but costs added up for four people. Even so, I don't regret any of the experiences or the time spent with my family.

We could've cut back on our excursions budget by not booking directly with Disney Cruise Line or finding a spot to snorkel on our own, but I liked the ease and security of booking directly with the cruise line.

We've heard a lot of horror stories lately about cruise-ship passengers getting left behind in ports , and we always figure our odds are better if we're on an excursion arranged by the ship.

Next time, we might cut back on drinks and spa treatments

Since we're limited by when we can travel, we're honing in on alcohol and spa treatments as areas we can spend less money on.

We're not huge drinkers, but my husband and I enjoy having a glass of wine with our dinner and a couple of cocktails on deck or while lounging on the beach at Castaway Cay.

On future trips, we may cut back. When we looked at our bill, we saw that some of the wine we ordered was as much as $18.50 per glass!

And, as much as we loved the massages on the beach, they cost $289 a person (including automatic gratuity). Getting a massage in a beachside cabana while on vacation was super relaxing, but we can get massages at home for a fraction of that price.

Overall, we loved our cruise and have no regrets

The longer cruise with four ports of call was pricier than we realized, and we got a bit of sticker shock when we saw the final bill with our onboard extras.

I don't have any regrets since my family has always been more focused on experiences than stuff : We don't drive fancy cars or wear expensive clothes, but we prioritize nice vacations.

Although we know we need to curb the spending in a few areas and be a little more aware of what things cost when charging things to our room, we came away with fond memories that were worth every penny.

Everything You Need to Know About Traveling on the Disney Dream

I love all five of the Disney Cruise Line ships that I’ve been on, but I seem to spend the most time on the Disney Dream ship. The Disney Dream is the third ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet – and the first of the larger Dream class ships (the other being the Disney Fantasy ).  It was brought into service in 2011 after a christening by Jennifer Hudson (who was once an entertainer aboard the Disney Wonder ).

It offers 1,250 staterooms and can accommodate up to 4,000 passengers. It definitely feels like a large ship – it takes a while to completely explore it. After seven different sailings on the ship, I feel like there are still areas that I haven’t explored.

Staterooms on the Disney Dream

Our family usually books an oceanview stateroom with verandah. Those offer a king bed as well as a set of bunk beds.

There are a variety of room types on the Disney Dream, including concierge rooms, verandah rooms, oceanview staterooms (with one or two porthole windows but no verandah), and inside rooms (that offer a “magical” porthole). Connecting staterooms are also available for larger groups.

Staterooms have a split bathroom (one room with a sink and toilet and one room with a shower/tub), a refrigerator, a closet, a safe, a hairdryer, and a television. Note that there are some rooms that only have one single bathroom.

Rooms include H2O toiletries that are mounted on the shower wall and generally have lots of space in various compartments for storing things. We always unpack right away and store our suitcases under the bed in our stateroom. That way, you’ll definitely have more room to move around.

Irons are not available in the room, but there are laundry rooms on the ship with iron facilities. If I need to iron anything, I like to do that on the first day so I can just hang things up and not worry about them. Check the map or ask your stateroom attendant where the laundry room is.

The beds on the ship are very comfortable – I find that I sleep so well on a cruise ship because of the light sway and the great room darkening shades.

Some rooms have bunk beds. For those, your stateroom attendant will pull down the bunk every evening and put it away in the morning if you’d like to use it. There are also rooms with trundle beds, which can accommodate up to 5 passengers.

If you are wondering what stateroom on the Disney Dream to book, you should consider how much time you plan to spend in the room, and what you plan to do in the room. When we sail, I love to grab a cup of coffee and sit outside watching the waves.

I also love watching the ship pull into port in the morning. Because of that, I’ve found that the verandah rooms are best for us. But they are definitely more expensive, so you’ll want to make sure you will use it.

If you don’t plan to spend much time in the room, an oceanview stateroom or an inside room may be a better option. It’s more economical, and you can always go on deck if you’d like to see outside. There are plenty of places to sit on the deck where you can see the ship pulling into port.

Room location may also be important to you. I generally don’t care too much, but I don’t like being right below the pool, or too close to the elevators. When traveling with friends and no kids, I like to be above the adult-only sections so they are easy to get to.

Like on the other ships, passengers on the Disney Dream often like to decorate their doors with stateroom door magnets . It’s a great way to identify your door when walking down the halls. If you want to do this, you’ll want to get prepared in advance.

My kids love picking out magnets before we leave on vacation. We typically add these to our day bag so we can decorate as soon as we are able to access our room, without waiting for our luggage.

See our in-depth review of the staterooms on the Disney Dream here .

Restaurants on the Disney Dream

What restaurants are on the Disney Dream? The Disney Dream offers the same unique rotational dining experience that the other Disney Cruise Line ships offer. There are three main restaurants on the Disney Dream – Animator’s Palate, Royal Palace, and Enchanted Garden.

You’ll be assigned a specific rotation when you arrive at the port and will have the same dining staff during your entire cruise.

If you are on a four-day or five-day cruise, you’ll get assigned one or two restaurants twice. I have a child with food allergies, so I find it helpful to have the same servers because they already know us and the food restrictions.

At Animator’s Palate, you’ll see a fun show featuring Finding Nemo’s crush. It’s the most lively of the restaurants and is always my kids’ favorite.

Royal Palace is the more upscale restaurant, featuring delicious French food (try the escargot appetizer). It seems more luxurious but is still pretty casual. My favorite menu on the ship is at Royal Palace.

Enchanted Garden is absolutely beautiful – watch as the ceiling darkens from day to night during your dinner.

In addition to the three main restaurants, there are some quick-serve options. Cabanas is the buffet restaurant that offers breakfast and lunch, in addition to the delicious evening buffet on Pirate Night . There is seating both indoors and outdoors.

In addition, you can forgo your usual dining rotation and go to Cabanas on select nights. If it’s nice outside, I’d definitely recommend grabbing your breakfast and lunch and heading outside to eat.

Cabanas is fully staffed by the regular dining room staff, so if you need any assistance, or have food allergies, you’ll definitely find someone who can help.

There are other quick-service locations that serve pizza, salads, and sandwiches. We sometimes want a quick snack and will grab a slice of pizza – especially if we have the second dinner seating.

For coffee lovers, you’ll want to check out the Cove Cafe, which serves premium coffee. It’s only for adults and can be a nice place to sit and read a book as you sip your coffee.

You can also get Dole Whips (both with and without alcohol) at Frozone Treats on Deck 11.  Room service is available to order 24 hours a day, except for disembarkation day.

For itineraries stopping at Castaway Cay , you’ll find two delicious BBQ restaurants on the family beach, as well as an adult-only BBQ restaurant at Serenity Bay. Servers from the ship travel out to the island to serve at these three locations.

For an additional fee, adults can choose to dine at Palo , the upscale Italian restaurant onboard, or Remy, the upscale French restaurant.

In addition, Palo’s often offers brunch on one day of the cruise. The brunch is absolutely delicious – I definitely recommend checking it out. While it has changed from a buffet to a sit down meal, it’s still fantastic.

If you want to eat at Palo, book it in advance so you’ll have your choice of times. The brunch especially is pretty popular and does book up.

Between Palo and Remy, you’ll find the Meridian bar, which offers alcoholic beverages in a bar with gorgeous views. I love grabbing a drink there before my meal at Palo.

If you are cruising with kids, you’ll probably find that they are happy to spend time in the kids’ clubs while you are eating. My kids usually order room service and then head to the kids’ clubs when my husband and I go to Palo.

Adult Areas on the Disney Dream

The kids’ clubs are fantastic on the Disney Cruise Line , so you’ll probably have some opportunity to explore the ship without kids. My kids always love checking out the kids’ clubs, and we even have to convince them to leave.

There are several adult-only areas and activities on the ship. The bars and clubs in the District section are adult-only in the evenings and offer entertainment and game shows.

My favorite adult-only area of the ship is Satellite Falls, which has a small waterfall/pool, as well as many lounge chairs. When my kids are in the kids’ clubs, I always enjoy grabbing a book and reading in the quiet area.

The ship also has a Senses Spa, which is a full-service spa offering lots of different services. For a treat, book a day pass for the Rainforest Room, where you can enjoy heated lounge chairs, two jacuzzis, a steam room, and much more.

Activities on the Disney Dream

There are so many things to do on the Disney Dream. You’ll even find that many guests don’t disembark at some ports because they are having so much fun on the ship. My kids especially love the kids’ clubs.

There are several options, depending on your kids’ ages, including a nursery, Oceaneer Club, Edge, and Vibe. There’s an open house that is held on the first day, so you can walk around and check things out with your kids.

There are also pools, the Aqualab splash area, and the famous AquaDuck – a watercoaster where you can travel in a tube around the ship.  At the pool deck, you’ll find the FunnelVision TV, which offers movies and shows throughout the day.

You can also see first-run Disney movies in the theater. We usually skip the movies, however, because there is so much more to do. On longer sailings, my kids love sitting in the water watching a FunnelVision movie.

Families will enjoy the various game shows and activities offered in D Lounge throughout the day. For adults, there are some alcohol-tasting classes that you can sign up for (additional fees apply).

I’ve done a few of these and have always enjoyed them – my favorite is the wine tasting. You can sign up for these once you get on the ship.

There are also a variety of character greetings throughout the day – check the Disney Cruise Line app for a full schedule. In addition, make sure that you check the navigator on the first day ., because there are sometimes character greetings that require tickets.

For those kids who love to dress up, there’s a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique onboard, which shifts to a Pirates League on Pirate Night.

Shows on the Disney Dream

What shows are on the Disney Dream? There are three Broadway-style shows that you can see on the ship. Currently, these are the Golden Mickey’s, Beauty and the Beast, and Disney’s Believe. Read our review of Beauty and the Beast here .

These are very high-quality shows and can be great for kids. They generally run twice per night, and you’ll go to the showing that is opposite your dinner seating time. If you haven’t seen them, I definitely recommend going to each of the shows.

Itineraries on the Disney Dream

What are the Disney Dream itineraries? In the past, the Disney Dream sailed from Port Canaveral on three or four-night Bahamian sailings and was a great option for a Disney Land and Sea vacation because it was easy to combine one of these shorter cruises with a Walt Disney World vacation.

However, with the introduction of the Disney Wish , which has taken over that schedule, the Disney Dream now offers different sailings.

Home ports include Fort Lauderdale, New York, San Juan, Southhampton, and Barcelona. These cruises range in length from three to thirteen nights.

Other Things You’ll Find on the Disney Dream

In addition to everything we’ve also discussed, there are lots of other things you’ll find on the ship. These include a photo studio (where you can purchase the photos that are taken of you on the ship), a rebooking desk (book your next cruise while onboard and you’ll get a discount), a port adventure desk, a port shopping desk, and so much more.

There are also several shops onboard selling sundries and Disney merchandise. It’s important to know that these shops do not open when the ship is in port, only when it is sailing. It’s important to make sure you pack everything you need because it’s tough to buy essentials on board.

If you are wondering what a Disney Cruise costs , visit this post.

Frequently Asked Questions

The three main dining rooms are Animator’s Palate, Royal Palace, and Enchanted Garden. There are also two adult dining locations (Palo and Remy), a buffet (Cabanas), and several quick-serve spots.

Upcoming itineraries include the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Canada, Europe, and Bermuda.

They are very similar ships, with many of the same amenities. Some of the bars and lounges are a bit different. Both are great ships.
