Our Philosophy

We have a few, but very important priorities. Number one is that our horses stay happy and healthy, and you, as our future or returning guests, are number two. We do not mean this in an offensive manner, but our horses’ well-being is not negotiable. “Baaxal” is a Mayan word meaning “a place to have fun” and we strongly believe that if our horses are happy and are having fun, so will you.

Our RB Family is a mix of humans, horses and dogs. We like to say that we have rescued the animals and they have rescued us. When you visit our ranch, you will get to know our family closer, and our goal is that you arrive as a guest and leave as a friend.

Expect the unexpected. At Rancho Baaxal you will get what we would like to call “rustic luxury”. Top-notch service, horses that are true pros, and surprising little touches of luxury here and there at a rustic ranch surrounded by beautiful tropical vegetation.

Rancho Baaxal was founded in 2008 by Swedish ranch owner Lisa, who had been dreaming for many years about creating a safe haven for unhappy and neglected horses. Her first horse Nay was soon joined by several other horses, and the RB Family was born.

Some of our horses are not suitable for our guests, some are retired or semi-retired, and some get life-long expensive treatments for medical conditions. This tour recognized with the “Traveler´s Choice Award 2022” is special for those who have never ridden or have little experience in this activity. We will take you on an original and gentle ride through beautiful jungle spots and fruit tree plantations.

This activity takes place at Bonanza Ranch, a place especially created to make you live the experience of riding a horse in a very Mexican atmosphere During the tour you will ride among the exotic vegetation of the jungle, you may see monkeys, exotic birds, lizards and other species living in Bonanza. You will also visit a cave and will be able to cool off in a beautiful cenote.

The overall experience with the customer service of trip advisor was amazing. No matter the time of night or day their was someone there to help you every step of the process. My partner and I booked the excursion the night before we went on the trip. I would advise you book as early as possible because you are guaranteed direct pick up from your hotel. Since we were late to book we had to travel downtown to another hotel in Cancun. Make sure you bring snacks for the trip. It’s a half day trip but it is draining if you are not prepared. When booking the excursion make sure you book for 2 Atvs and not a shared one. We booked for 2 Atvs but when we got there they tried to put us on one Atvs. My partner and I weren’t happy with the confusion and had to wait 30 minutes for it to be cleared up. They let us have our own Atvs and apologized for the mix up. For the Atvs make sure you bring a towel, bandana (for smoke and debris as you ride) and bring a refillable water bottle. Make sure you wear shorts that are about knee length because the Atvs are old and can get really hot. Bring clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. The staff of the adventure were super funny and overall great instructors. I ended up crashing and damaging the arc but they were understanding and only charged me a $10 fee which was the security deposits on the locker.

The overall experience was incredible from beginning to end. I would definitely purchase this tour again, and recommend it to others.

The pick-up service was on time (they got us from our hotel),the staff was friendly and funny, the activities were fun, and lunch was tasty. I don’t have any complaints about the tour aside from maybe not being able to use your cell phone during the tours. However, they do offer photo packages that start from $60 US. I purchased the package and received about 65 pictures of my bf and I.

I’d recommend that you pack water (although water is offered); be prepared for the heat because it is really hot; maybe bring a bandana, long socks and gloves for the ATV tour because my bf and I, and other guests, got blisters on our hands and mild burns on our legs from the heat of the ATVs; and pack flip flops and towles for the cenote.
