Michael and Kevin Bacon

Ballad Of The Brothers

The Bacon Brothers' "Ballad Of The Brothers," releasing April 19, 2024, continues their diverse "forosoco" sound journey, blending folk, rock, soul, and country. Spanning decades, their twelfth album showcases the unique talents of Kevin, an A-list actor, and Michael, an Emmy-winning composer, through sharp songwriting and storytelling. Featuring a mix of alt-rock, Motown-inspired soul, and folk, it highlights their evolution and distinct approaches to music. Raised in Philadelphia, their influences include 1970s singer/songwriters, Philly soul, and classic rock, creating a modern musical homage to their roots.

The Bacon Brothers: Ballad of the Brothers

The Bacon Brothers

For the bacon brothers, music is all about exploration..

The siblings have spent the better part of three decades creating their own mix of folk, rock, soul, and country music. They call that diverse sound "forosoco," and it's taken them around the world, from headlining gigs in Japan to American performances at iconic venues like Carnegie Hall, the Grand Ole Opry and Gruene Hall.

The exploration continues with the band's twelfth release, Ballad Of The Brothers . It's a record that highlights not only the similarities between Kevin Bacon (known worldwide as an A-list Hollywood actor) and Michael Bacon (celebrated as an Emmy-winning composer), but the differences, too. The two siblings may be bound together by blood and a mutual love of American roots music, but they've grown into sharp songwriters and cinematic storytellers with their own distinct approaches. Ballad Of The Brothers makes room for both of those approaches, offering a mix of edgy alt-rock ("Take Off This Tattoo"), Motown-inspired soul ("Put Your Hand Up"), fingerpicked folk ("Let That Be Enough"), and everything in between.

We’ve been doing this for several decades if you go back to when we first had instruments in our hands. We were raised in a family that appreciated everything that was artistic. I was in a band with our sister when I was in high school. We were given art lessons and dance lessons and acting lessons. That’s just the kind of family we grew up in. It was just a natural thing for Kevin and I to do things together. I discovered early on that he had a natural gift for sharing sentiments that were personal to him, but in fact universal as far as most people were concerned. That’s really the essence of what our band has been all about and it’s been immensely satisfying to us. — Michael Bacon

Kevin Bacon plays percussion

What’s always been surprising to me is that we’ve been able to do it for so long. The fact that we’ve kept making music is always amazing to me. Every time I write a song, I think it’s the last one I’m ever going to write. Every time we do a record, I’m definitely sure it’s the last record we’re ever going to do. But then we gather more songs. We’re a songwriting band. That’s the beginning and the end. It’s the be-all and the end-all as far as what we do. — Kevin Bacon

The Way We Love

On July 18, 2020, the brothers released their tenth record entitled The Way We Love , which contains a series of songs that explore those intimate relationships with the people and ideals that become a source of both purpose and passion. The album contains ten tracks, seven of which were produced by Michael & Kevin , two by Philadelphia producer/engineer Joe Nicolo , one produced by Saverio Principini . Two of the exceptional offerings were recorded live at Sony Hall in New York City. It’s also one of their most emotionally charged collections to date, and one of their most dynamic and diverse as well.

About the Artist

The Bacon Brothers turn a new page with their eleventh release, Erato , whose five songs showcase the duo at their diverse peak. It’s an EP of dynamic contrasts: quiet moments and big payoffs, organic instrumentation and electronic textures, self-penned songs and high-profile collaborations. For Michael and Kevin Bacon, it’s also the continuation of a story that began long ago in Philadelphia, where the two siblings were raised on a soundtrack of 1970s singer/songwriters, Philly soul singers, and classic rock bands.

“We’re still exploring the sound we began making 25 years ago; we’ve just gotten a lot better at it,” says Michael, whose success as an Emmy-winning composer mirrors his brother’s own accolades as an A-list Hollywood actor. “Music is a life’s work. It’s a universe of things yet to know. It’s exciting to be doing stuff we couldn’t have done 20 years ago — to know that we’ve come so far, yet still have so much left in the tank.”

On Erato ‘s title track, the brothers appeal directly to the goddess of romantic poetry for inspiration. “Send me lightning in a bottle, Erato,” they sing, their voices stacked together in harmony, their melodies flanked by layers of jangling guitar and folk-pop instrumentation. Unfolding like a summoning of the muse herself, it’s one of countless highlights on a record that also makes room for the stripped-back soul of “Dark Chocolate,” the atmospheric acoustics of “Karaoke Town,” and the summery island-pop of “Let Me Happen.”

“We’re a songwriting band, and the songs lead the way,” Kevin explains. “We’re not beholden to a specific sound. We just write the songs and let them point us in the right direction. That’s how we’ve done it since the very beginning.”

This time around, The Bacon Brothers’ songs point the duo toward unexplored territory. “Let Me Happen” grew out of a piece of unused music Michael had originally composed for a television show two decades earlier. “Michael has another musical life as a composer,” Kevin notes, “and turning one of his instrumental compositions into a lyrical song is not something we’ve ever done before.” Likewise, “In Memory (Of When I Cared)” finds the siblings teaming up with songwriting legend Desmond Child for a track that splits the difference between minor-key rock & roll and modern-day pop. “Desmond has a gift for writing magnetic songs that people get trapped inside of,” Michael says of Child, a Songwriters Hall of Fame icon whose songwriting credits include Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer,” Aerosmith’s “Crazy,” and Joan Jett’s “I Hate Myself For Loving You.” Working with a co-writer was a rare experience for the Bacons, whose previous 10 albums were almost exclusively written by Kevin and Michael. In Desmond Child, they found more than just a collaborator — they found validation in their strengths as prolific craftsmen, too.

Grammy Award-winning cellist Sara Sant’Ambrogio first leapt to international attention when she was a winner at the International Tchaikovsky Violoncello Competition in Moscow, Russia. As a result of her medal, Carnegie Hall invited Ms. Sant’Ambrogio to perform a recital that was filmed by CBS News as part of a profile about her, which was televised nationally. The New York Times described Ms. Sant’Ambrogio’s New York recital debut as “sheer pleasure,” saying “There was an irresistible warmth in everything Miss Sant’Ambrogio did.”

Ms. Sant’Ambrogio has appeared as soloist with such orchestras as the Atlanta, Beijing Philharmonic, Boston, Budapest, Chicago, Dallas, Moscow State Philharmonic, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Osaka Century Orchestra (Japan), Royal Philharmonic, St. Louis, San Francisco, Seattle and Vienna Symphony; she has performed thousands of concerts on six continents at the world’s major music centers and festivals including Aspen, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Hollywood Bowl, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Konzert Huset in Stockholm, Marlboro, Muiskverein in Vienna, Ravinia, Orchard and Suntory Halls in Tokyo and Great Mountain Festival in Korea. Ms. Sant’Ambrogio is particularly excited to have finally performed in all 50 United States last season when she performed at the Juneau Jazz and Classics Festival in Alaska!!

We really enjoyed the show. The entire band was great! I hadn't seen the group in many years, but was impressed by how much they have grown musically. Kevin's stage presence is just amazing. I highly recommend the concert. The only thing I would have enjoyed more was if they would have play more of their older songs.

The Bacon Brothers full band performed at the Barbara B Mann hall in Fort Myers on June 3, 2017 to a very enthusiastic crowd. The set-list included a solo cello performance by Michael Bacon & a Footloose mashup that had the entire theater on their feet. Incorporating an amazing array of electric & acoustic guitars and ukulele, the brothers along with Paul Guzzone & Ira Siegel treated the audience to wide range of sounds. Percussions buy Frank Vilardi included sounds beyond merely drums, and Kevin's Djembe added an extra dimension to the live performance.

Keyboards, Sax & accordion performance by Joe Mennonna rounded out the sound throughout the evening. Kevin and Michael even treated the audience to a brief Q&A after the intermission, where guests penned questions on index cards which were read by Kevin and answered by both brothers on stage. Overall the Bacon Brothers are a great stage show that is not to be missed.

The Bacon Brothers Announce Summer Tour – New EP Out July 8th

bacon brothers tour 2022

The Bacon Brothers are proud to announce they will be hitting the road this summer with dates on both coasts. This tour will be in support of their soon to be released EP, Erato. The Bacon Brothers have spent the past quarter-century in a creative whirl, funneling their shared DNA into a genre-bending sound. They call that sound Forosoco – a blend of folk, rock, soul and country influences, delivered by two songwriters who were born to collaborate – and it’s taken the siblings across the world, from shows in Japan to performances at American landmarks like Carnegie Hall and the Grand Ole Opry.

The Bacon Brothers turn a new page with their eleventh release, Erato, whose five songs showcase the duo at their diverse peak. It’s exciting to be doing stuff we couldn’t have done 20 years ago — to know that we’ve come so far, yet still have so much left in the tank.” On Erato’s title track, the brothers appeal directly to the goddess of romantic poetry for inspiration. “Send me lightning in a bottle, Erato,” they sing, their voices stacked together in harmony, their melodies flanked by layers of jangling guitar and folk-pop instrumentation. Unfolding like a summoning of the muse herself, it’s one of countless highlights on a record that also makes room for the stripped-back soul of “Dark Chocolate Eyes,” the atmospheric acoustics of “Karaoke Town,” and the summery island-pop of “Let Me Happen To You.” “We’re a songwriting band, and the songs lead the way,” Kevin explains. “We’re not beholden to a specific sound. We just write the songs and let them point us in the right direction. That’s how we’ve done it since the very beginning.”

This time around, The Bacon Brothers’ songs point the duo toward unexplored territory. “Let Me Happen To You” grew out of a piece of unused music Michael had originally composed for a television show two decades earlier. Another unexpected collaborator was Kevin’s son, Travis Bacon, who produces the track “Karaoke Town.” “I wrote it on acoustic guitar,” Kevin remembers, “but I also knew that I could support the song’s simplicity with a bigger, darker, more electronic arrangement, which is right in my son’s wheelhouse.”

With its balance of warm acoustics and digital flourishes, “Karaoke Town” represents a rare collaboration between father and son, proof that the apple doesn’t fall far from the family tree. Erato was recorded in various cities across the country, from producer Joe Nicolo’s studio in Pennsylvania to Travis Bacon’s studio in Los Angeles. Two songs were finished in Atlanta, their recording sessions sandwiched between shoots for one of Kevin’s film projects. From his home studio in New York, Michael added cello and autoharp to several other tracks. Members of The Bacon Brothers’ longtime road band appear on the record’s title track, while a handful of first-time collaborators contribute to other songs, turning Erato into one of the band’s most diverse records yet. It’s also interesting to note that the cover of the EP was also drawn by Kevin. “We’re always trying to break out of our specific habits and try something new,” Kevin says. “We’re two songwriters who have a lot of different influences, and we’ve learned to embrace that reality. As long as it comes from us, it sounds like us.” “If you’re an athlete or a dancer, you usually have to launch a new career by the time you’re 40,” Michael adds. “We’re lucky. About the event

For over five decades, The Doobie Brothers have been known for delivering mind-blowing, roots based, harmony-laden, guitar-driven rock and roll – all of which recently culminated in an induction into the 2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Boasting one of the most loyal fan bases in music, selling more than 48 million albums, and winning four GRAMMY® Awards, The Doobie Brothers continue to write and record new material and tour the world. Their No. 1 singles “Black Water” and “What a Fool Believes," both gold, lead a catalog of indelible songs that include: “Listen to the Music,” “China Grove,” “Jesus Is Just All Right,” “Rockin’ Down the Highway,” “Long Train Runnin’,” “Take Me In Your Arms,” & "quote Takin’ it to the Streets,” “Minute by Minute,” “You Belong to Me,” “The Doctor” and more. In all, the Doobies have tallied up five top 10 singles and 16 top 40 hits. Beginning with their multi-million-selling sophomore collection Toulouse Street, the Doobies have 3 multi-platinum, 7 platinum, and 14 Gold albums. Best of the Doobies has sold more than 12 million copies – a rare “diamond record.” In 2021, the band kicked off their 50th anniversary tour which reunited Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald, Pat Simmons, and John McFee on stage. Additionally, The Doobie Brothers released their autobiography, Long Train Runnin’ on July 26, 2022.
