Top 5 airlines flying to India

On time take off and early arrival, what else can one want

My last few flights with Emirates have always been delayed at least a half an hour. When my layover is only an hour and a half to two hours, 30 minutes makes a big difference. I’m going to check out other airlines.

we bought trip insurance from you and could not use it. 'underrated' only return 50 % of trip cost. my doctor told me i have stage 4 cancer and that I might not live till the end of the month..

Flight got canceled without any prior information and it caused lot of trouble

Worst ever. No assistance and communication from Emirates crew. No visibility of when the flight is flying. Couldn’t understand if we can go to lounge to take rest. Emirates system at a certain point said flight is not operating and suggested to take the next flight and in few minutes it suddenly opened the gate for boarding. unsupportive and rude crew. Worst experience ever. Flight was delayed by 5 hours so need the compensation for that.

Staff were friendly, and provided great service. The food was plentiful and delicious. Food could have been hotter.

I was traveling business purposes and I only had one carry on and a personal computer back pack . My carry on was 8.5 kg little more than allowable. At jfk airport check in they did not let me carry it . I was little disappointed.

More leg room and comfortable seats at least for long flights

The entertainment selections are amazing. But the live TV is sometimes spotty. If you’re going to have it, then have it. If you can’t make it consistent, then, perhaps it’s better not to have it. The crew are always cordial when approached, but they seem to do the minimum and sit around, talking to each other in the back of the plane during the flight. I realize that delays are not always predictable, but I missed my flight in Dubai because we left 90 minutes late from Washington. I will say that Emirates took very good care of me in Dubai. But I would rather not be delayed.

Probably the best flight I’ve ever been on. Emirates first class is leagues beyond British airways and Lufthansa’s.

Besides the flight cancellation, everything else was prefect. Kudos to Malaysian Airlines.

Operated by American Airlines. Very chaotic and the crew was bit rough responding any enquiries. Restricted leg space.. Qatar would have been better

No towels or tissue and chocolate and mint provided before arrival

Qatar airways from Doha to guangzhau was excellent big bird Boeing 777 more room and smoothly flight, I Love it

It was good no problems made it on time for the next flight overseas!

They made us deliberate waste time by holding our passports and boarding passes making us miss the flight

The made us waiting and held our passports and boarding pass making us miss our flights

Not impressed. Only allowed one carry on on such a long flight.

The flight was good but my neighbor had the vent open full power for the whole flight and because the air was blowing from the side instead of from the top and I got very cold and ended up with a sore throat.

Bad experience with the delay n long wait time for connecting flight after missing the connection flight from Doha.

Lovely crew - comfortable journey despite it being an older plane.

1st time with. Etihad Airways and it was amazing from check in to crew. Great flight.

It has been a couple of years since I flew with Etihad last, after having a unpleasant experience with them coming out of the pandemic. I can say that the experience has uplifted, but I can’t really rate the service. At Barcelona airport the service was great, with their dedicated Etihad staff very helpful. The onboard experience wasn’t great, not very personalised and it really makes sense why Etihad doesn’t feature in the top 10 2023 Skytrax awards. The crew just seemed to be inattentive and almost absent from the cabin. I felt that I had to keep getting their attention. Even after I’d finished my meal, an hour went by before I had to call them to clear the tray/plate etc.

One thing is very important is you people not giving seat arrangement together to couple, senior citizen. You have to take care of senior citizen. Do not look about money. Money is not important everywhere. Make relationship strong is very very important. I like Etiyad air line out of all air line. Food was hot and delicious. Air hostess gave very good service, nice attitude, very good behaviour. I gave 10 out of 10 marks. Thanks Jivraj

Entertainment did not work from flight from Abu Dhabi to Kolkata. Emirates has a much better flight in that sector.

Ripped off and broken seats in Business class. Seats stink and need to request the staff for additional bedsheets. Crew if very friendly though

Food was very good. Again tray could use a non-skid mat. I had a regular seat - comfortable - able to sleep undisturbed. Boarding was uneventful.

Boarding was quick and efficient. Ground staff were pleasant and courteous. Food was tasty, portions were good for me. Food containers kept slipping on the tray. Tray would look better with an anti-skid tray mat. I had the bulkhead seat which was very uncomfortable for couple of reasons. Aircraft is designed with no throughput to move across aisle to aisle. Passengers kept jumping over my legs to get from one side to the other to use the toilet. Secondly I had a mother and 9 month baby next to me. Mom had to hold baby for 12 hours in her lap as he did not fit into the bassinet. Half the baby was on my lap during the flight. Aircraft temperature was very cold - light attendant said it was the central cooling and nothing could be done about it. Movie selection was very poor old and outdated.

Crew member took too long time to take back leftover food plates from passenger seats. Food was nice.Easy excellent checking.Guy at checking counter was really kind and helpful.Made our checking very quickly. Leftover food should be taken back ASAP. Because in economy class passanger have narrow space . In the long journey like this, passanger have difficulties to sit with the plates.overall experience was good.

Crew did not cooperate… I just asked water twice for one crew member and she didn’t get anything.. and when I asked other crew member he gave me water and he was not respectful.. I kept Hindu non veg meal chicken .. when I get my turn chicken was not provided and then they gave me veg paneer and green peas curry which I don’t like..

Poor, we had 1 hour to grab our checked luggage, go through customs, recheck bags and run across terminals to make our United flight. Poorly planned connections.

Check in in Albuquerque was awful. The people were great but they were over loaded. The procedures were terrible. We got through fine but it took 90+ minutes.

Will try to not fly with them again. Delays because of weather but got redirected to an airport where I could not make connection.

Staff didn’t care in business class. Closed the door on my mom while she was on the jetbridge and flight attendant told me she would make it from the connecting flight. They lied. My luggage was damaged on arrival. No success in filing damage claim.

Boston Logan is a crummy airport - signage is terrible or lacking in areas. Boarding seemed to be a free for all and with all the different airlines speaking, you couldn't tell who was supposed to be where and when. Plain and simple, airlines should board from the back of the plane to the front. Also someone was sitting in my seat. By the time that was figured out, I had to place my overhead behind me which made de-planing more difficult. Logan is not Lufthansa's fault so that is not on them, Boarding is on them! Still, overall it was a Good Experience flying with Lufthansa. This is not my first flight with them...

Overall, the flight was comfortable without any serious issues. Transit through Frankfurt airport was a little confusing, but not too difficult if you follow the signs

There was a screaming child behind our seats. This prevented us from getting any sleep during the night.

There was a screaming child just behind our seats. This prevented us from getting any sleep during the night!!

Staff disappeared after dinner service until breakfast, no help with beds, no help running to our gate to catch connection cause flight was late, our luggage didn’t make it, took over 24 hours to get luggage to hotel, no compensation!!

Everything was good except food. I believe there is room for improvement

The seats were extremely uncomfortable. Air India seats used to be very comfortable . with sufficient legroom. In this aircraft there was no legroom. It is a shame that for your profit margins you are trying to pack people like cattle on these long haul flights. The food was terrible. The bread was hard like a rock. Mr CEO of Air India, why don’t you take a flight in economy from India to USA and experience the hardships first hand. It is utter disgrace

Absolutely nothing. Cold and unpleasant airline staff, and to top it all, the entertainment system was broken. Really harrowing experience.

BAD experience. Entertainment system was not working and most of the passengers had this issue. Staff was not helpful. Meal was yuck. Bad old flights.

Overall good experience. I got first row seats with extra legroom. It does make a difference. Entertainment system was working. However, they kept serving me a VEGAN meal instead of a VEGETERIAN meal. I asked them and showed my tickets that Vegeterian meal is selected but the staff didn't care. VEGAN meal was medicore and not enough to fill tummy. Also unhealthy with butter made from palm oil.

Communication was terrible. Flight was delayed for 4-5 hours in DC (on the front end, and also after we boarded, we had to get off - some issue with fueling the old plane correctly). There was little to no information on timing or what was happening. Once we reach Delhi airspace, apparently there was weather that caused us not to land - we were actually near the ground, saw the run way, and lifted back up to the sky after being sooo close. Then we circled for about 30 minutes, and they decided to go to Jaipur to land until the weather cleared and to refuel. Again, once we landed in Jaipur (wrong city), there was little to no information on timing or what was happening. Then we heard that the crew was reaching their 24 hours. We sat on the place, on the tarmac for another 3 HOURS, with no food and not enough water for everyone on the flight. Then, they kicked us off the plane with no plan, in the wrong city. We went thru customs, got our bags (thank goodness), and had to ask a bunch of staff what was happening and what to do. Eventually, their soltuion was to bus people back to Delhi (like 6 hours we were told) but not everyone would fit on the bus, and unknown timing on when it would leave. At this point it was 9PM (we were scheduled to arrive in Delhi at 11AM...). My husband and I decided to risk it and take a cab that we had to pay ourselves (about $200 US dollars) to get to Delhi (about 5 hour drive). We both had terrible trips back to the US as well - almost missed connecting flight, forced to pay for carry-on luggage (a small back pack!) and duty-free goods by the Air India staff last minute. Just terrible experience all around. Never again with AI! The ONLY good thing was the air hostesses were kind and patient - example: they made sure people with food allergies got their correct.

It would have been perfect if there was onboard entertainment.

Food was unfit even for prisoners. larger front seats are terribly uncomfortable, which is ironic. Thorough need to upgrade aircraft on such a long route.

Food could be better they need a better caterer in DC flight from India always has better food

Everything! To start with, seats, food tray table, entertainment console all are broken! Imposing duty free baggage fees for $250 as a surprise penalty cannot be appreciated! Airlines should be responsible for transferring the checked baggages to the connecting flight. Having customer go through the transfer is painful considering the travel tiredness! No soft drinks served on flight is another crumble!

Old creaky plane, poor entertainment, USB port did not work. Food was ok.

Firstly, if you’re planning to bring your aged parents along, I’d recommend looking into insurance plans like Atlas America, which offers coverage for individuals aged 70 and above.

For young folks, I’d recommend the Patriot America plan or the Visitors Care plan. These plans cover basic necessities and aren’t too expensive .

If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, I’d suggest going for a plan that covers them. Atlas America is one such plan. It covers pre-existing medical conditions up to a certain limit.

Be prepared to pay a bit more for such plans, though.

Now, if you’re worried about your budget, check out the cheapest health insurance plans from companies like IMG, Tokio Marine or Seven Corners. These are great for short trips and cover all the basics.

But, if you’re willing to splurge, you can consider plans like Liaison Majestic, that offer comprehensive coverage.

If you’re planning a long trip, it’s best to get a plan that covers you for the entire duration. Atlas America and Patriot America offer comprehensive coverage for long-term visits.

Remember, it’s always better to be prepared beforehand than to regret it later.

So, choose the insurance plan that works best for you and have a happy and safe trip!

When Can Travel Insurance for the USA be Helpful?

There are a few scenarios where travel insurance for the USA can be a real lifesaver.

Think of it as your trusty travel sidekick, standing by your side, ready to jump into action when things don’t go according to plan. But when exactly can travel insurance be beneficial?

Let’s delve into some scenarios where having travel insurance can make all the difference.

1. Trip Cancellations:

Imagine planning your dream trip to the USA, right down to the last detail, only to have to cancel due to an unexpected emergency.

Non-refundable bookings for flights , hotels, or tours can result in a significant financial loss. Fortunately, travel insurance can help recover these costs.

For instance, if you have to cancel your trip due to a family member’s illness, your travel insurance would cover the non-refundable expenses, minimizing your financial loss.

2. Medical Emergencies:

The cost of healthcare in the USA can be quite high. If you were to fall sick or have an accident during your trip, the medical expenses could create a significant dent in your budget.

That’s where travel insurance comes in.

For example, if you contract food poisoning from trying out a new cuisine or sprain your ankle during a hike in Yosemite National Park, your travel insurance will cover the medical costs, saving you from unexpected expenditures.

3. Baggage Loss or Delay:

Losing your luggage or experiencing a delay in receiving it can be a major inconvenience. It could mean being without your essentials and needing to purchase replacements.

Travel insurance can help in such situations. If your baggage is delayed for more than a specific period (typically 12-24 hours), your insurance policy can reimburse you for the purchase of essential items like toiletries and clothing.

In the case of lost luggage, you’ll be compensated for the loss up to the maximum limit specified in your policy.

4. Flight Delays or Cancellations:

Flight delays or cancellations can disrupt your travel plans significantly. For example, if you’ve planned a tour of the Grand Canyon but your flight gets delayed due to bad weather, causing you to miss the tour, your travel insurance can cover the cost of the tour.

Similarly, if your flight gets canceled and you need to book a last-minute hotel for the night, your travel insurance would cover these unexpected costs.

5. Legal Assistance:

In an unfamiliar country, legal troubles can be quite daunting. If you’re involved in a legal issue, your travel insurance policy can help by providing coverage for legal expenses and advice.

This could be in a situation where you accidentally damage someone’s property or in a traffic violation.

In conclusion, having travel insurance can significantly reduce the financial risk associated with travel uncertainties. It’s like having a safety net, providing you peace of mind to enjoy your journey fully.

Remember, your adventures should be filled with joy and excitement, not worries and stress.

Please note that the situations mentioned are for illustrative purposes and actual coverage depends on the specifics of your insurance policy. Always read your policy carefully to understand what is and isn’t covered.

Is it Mandatory to Get Travel Insurance in the USA?

While there are countries like Schengen countries where travel insurance is compulsory for visa approval, in the case of the USA, it’s a different story.

The United States government does not mandate travel insurance for visitors.

When you’re applying for a visa to the USA, there’s no requirement listed by the U.S. Department of State to have travel insurance.

So, technically, you could travel to the USA without any travel insurance.

However, it’s strongly recommended to have one. Why?

Because the cost of healthcare in the USA is one of the highest in the world.

According to data from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) , an emergency room visit’s median cost can go up to $1,389, and that’s without factoring in any additional treatment or hospitalization.

A serious accident or illness could result in medical bills amounting to tens of thousands of dollars, if not more.

Furthermore, travel insurance provides coverage beyond just medical emergencies. It covers you for instances like trip cancellation, lost luggage, and flight delays.

Such unforeseen circumstances can arise, disrupting your plans and potentially causing substantial financial loss. Having travel insurance helps mitigate these risks, providing you with a financial safety net.

While it’s not legally mandatory , certain tour operators or travel agencies may require you to have travel insurance as part of their booking conditions.

So it’s always best to check the conditions before making any reservations.

In conclusion, while travel insurance is not compulsory for travel to the USA, it’s strongly recommended due to the high healthcare costs and potential for other unforeseen expenses.

It’s about ensuring that you can enjoy your trip with peace of mind, knowing that you’re financially protected against any unexpected incidents.

What is the Cost for Travel Insurance for USA from India?

When it comes to the cost of travel insurance for the USA from India, there is a range of options available, tailored to fit various budgets and needs.

It’s essential to remember that cost is just one factor in your decision; the level of coverage is just as, if not more, critical.

Travel insurance premiums are influenced by factors like the length of your trip, your age, any pre-existing medical conditions, the type of coverage you choose, and sometimes even your destination in the USA.

Let’s look at some hypothetical scenarios to help you better understand how these factors can affect the cost of your travel insurance.

Scenario 1: Basic Coverage

Suppose you are a 30-year-old planning a two-week vacation to the USA and decide to go for a basic travel insurance plan.

Such a plan typically covers only emergency medical expenses and perhaps some additional benefits like emergency evacuation . You’re looking at an approximate premium starting from $40-$50.

Scenario 2: Comprehensive Coverage

Now, let’s say you’re the same 30-year-old, but this time, you opt for a more comprehensive plan.

Comprehensive plans often include coverage for trip cancellations, trip interruption, baggage loss or delay, in addition to emergency medical expenses. For such extensive coverage, your premium could range anywhere from $80-$100.

Scenario 3: Pre-existing Condition Coverage

Now, if you’re a 60-year-old traveler with a pre-existing condition, such as diabetes or hypertension, and looking for coverage that includes these conditions, your premium would be significantly higher due to the increased medical risk.

You might be looking at costs around $150-$200 or even more, depending on the severity of your condition.

Scenario 4: Adventure Sports Coverage

Suppose you are an adventure enthusiast and plan to indulge in activities like skiing, bungee jumping, or scuba diving.

In that case, you might want to consider a plan that provides coverage for adventure sports, which typically come with a higher premium due to the inherent risk involved. Depending on the specific activities covered, the premium could range from $100-$150.

In conclusion, the cost of travel insurance for the USA from India varies widely depending on your specific requirements and risk factors.

It’s crucial to assess your needs, understand what each plan offers, and choose accordingly. After all, peace of mind while travelling is priceless.

Buy Travel Insurance For USA From Indian Companies or Online

The question of whether to buy travel insurance for the USA from an Indian company or online can depend on your preferences, needs, and comfort level with digital platforms. Both options come with their own set of advantages and disadvantages.

Buying from Indian Insurance Companies:

Let’s take the example of an established Indian insurance company. A physical office presence can offer you a sense of security and trust.

You can walk into an office, speak to an insurance advisor face-to-face, clarify your doubts, and get guidance on the best plan for you. For many, especially those less comfortable with technology, this can be a huge benefit.

Advantages:

  • Personalized service: Face-to-face interaction can provide personalized service. You can explain your specific needs and get recommendations accordingly.
  • Paperwork Assistance: They can also help you navigate the sometimes complex world of insurance paperwork.

Disadvantages:

  • Limited Choices: Physical companies may have limited offerings compared to what’s available online. This could mean you may not get a policy best suited for your needs.
  • Higher Costs: Traditional insurance companies often have higher operational costs, which may reflect in their premium rates.

Scenario: Suppose you’re a 50-year-old man planning to visit your son in the USA. You’re not tech-savvy and prefer in-person assistance for understanding the insurance plans. You decide to go with a renowned Indian insurance company with a local branch office. The advisor there recommends a plan which costs INR 8000 ($110) for your 1-month stay.

However, the plan doesn’t cover trip cancellations and delay, something you would have preferred given the unpredictability of your work schedule.

Buying Travel Insurance Online:

On the other hand, buying travel insurance online offers a host of advantages, the primary one being convenience. You can compare and purchase policies at the click of a button, without leaving the comfort of your home.

  • Wide Variety: Online platforms allow you to compare a wide range of policies from different companies, helping you to find the one that best fits your needs.
  • Lower Costs: Online companies often have lower operational costs, leading to competitive premium rates.
  • Convenience: You can purchase a policy anytime, anywhere, making it a hassle-free process.
  • Impersonal: It can feel impersonal as most of the process is automated.
  • Confusing: With such a vast array of options, choosing the right policy can be overwhelming.

Scenario: Suppose you’re a 30-year-old software engineer planning to visit the USA for a tech conference . You’re comfortable with digital platforms and decide to purchase your travel insurance online.

After comparing several plans, you opt for a comprehensive plan covering emergency medical expenses, trip cancellations, and delay for INR 5000 ($70) for your 1-week trip.

In conclusion, whether you choose to buy from an Indian insurance company or online depends on your comfort level, your understanding of insurance plans, and your specific requirements.

Always make sure to read the policy document thoroughly and understand the coverage and exclusions before purchasing.

Buying Travel Insurance from American Companies Vs. Indian Companies: A Comparison

When planning a trip to the USA from India, one critical decision is where to buy your travel insurance: from an American company or an Indian one? Each has its own advantages and drawbacks, which we’ll explore below.

Buying from American Insurance Companies:

Purchasing travel insurance from American companies can come with benefits that cater specifically to travelers in the USA.

  • Localized Services: American companies have a better understanding of their own country’s medical costs and local emergency services, which can result in more precise coverage amounts.
  • Easy Claim Process: In case of a medical emergency, American insurance companies often have a direct billing agreement with hospitals in the USA, which means the hospital bills them directly, sparing you out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Comprehensive Plans: They often provide more comprehensive coverage options, including trip interruption, baggage delay, acute onset of pre-existing conditions , etc.
  • Cost: Premiums from American insurance companies can be significantly higher compared to Indian insurance companies.
  • Purchase Process: Buying insurance from an American company might be a bit more complex for an Indian traveler, given the differences in systems and processes.

Example Scenario: Let’s say you are a 45-year-old Indian woman traveling to the USA for a six-month stay. You decide to go with an American insurance company.

Your insurance policy, which covers high medical expenses, trip cancellation, and baggage delay, costs around $300.

In case of a medical emergency, the hospital directly sends the bill to your insurance company, leaving you worry-free.

Purchasing travel insurance from an Indian company offers advantages that can be appealing to Indian travelers.

  • Cost-effective: Indian insurance companies usually offer lower premiums compared to American counterparts.
  • Familiarity: Buying insurance from an Indian company means dealing with familiar systems, language, and customer service, which can simplify the purchase process.
  • Reimbursement Basis: Most Indian insurance companies operate on a reimbursement basis. This means in case of a medical emergency, you’ll need to pay out-of-pocket first, and then the company will reimburse the expenses.
  • Coverage: Some Indian companies might not offer as comprehensive coverage as American companies.

Example Scenario: Now, if you’re a 30-year-old man planning to attend a two-week conference in the USA, you might prefer to buy insurance from an Indian company due to lower premiums.

You choose a policy costing INR 2000 ($30), covering basic medical emergencies. In case of any medical exigency, you’ll need to pay upfront and then claim reimbursement.

In conclusion, the decision between an American and Indian insurance company will depend on factors like your budget, the coverage you need, your comfort with the claims process, and the length of your stay.

Top 5 airlines serving from New Delhi to the United States

Emirates is still my favorite airline. The good, entertainment, crew, and value are excellent. Unfortunately, the flight was delayed taking off and arriving - which caused me to lose my ground transportation plan. While delays happen, more communication about the delays would be helpful.

very nice experience…….we had a comfortable fly with emirates…this is 6 th time flying with emirates….i recommend friends to fly with emirates…….

I am going to be just factual, not bad mouthing nor complaining, but this was my experience. With 3 pieces of luggage, I was told the flight from Mumbai to Dubai was cancelled due to flood. This was told not by the airport board which still showed the regular time of departure, but general stuff at the airport. No Emirates stuff around to direct the transfer passengers of the cancelled flights. By the departure counters with crowds of people, one by one, angry, frustrated, urgent conversations were going on. No announcement were made, no postings being seen, just private conversations. I still have 5+ hours of layover, so I let more urgent people settled first. However, the fact that no communication of when, what and where I should go was very unsettling. Basically no time limit waiting means, no meal, no sleep, no step away, no planning, no change plan, no telling of the family what to do. Nobody was able to tell you anything but asked you to wait, no chair, no space, no facility to freshen up. That went on for 10+ (from 5) hour without warnings and accurate communications. Email received from Emirates asked me not to go to Dubai at all, or boarding at the time that was passed. In other words, communication were very untimely, after the fact. That created more confusion instead. After changing several of boarding time, we were given the gate # and a boarding pass. However, the boarding pass still have the original time of boarding, so again, not knowing walking 30 min in the airport to the gate would make you late or not, therefore, still dare not to eat a meal. The flight arriving to Dubai was uneventful and I gave a 4/5 rating. I just thought the layover at Dubai would just cut short from 8+ hours to 2+ hours. At Dubai airport, I saw people sleeping on cardboard, knowing, these people got stranded but they dared to sleep because they know when to board and I didn't. Or these kind of delay are just so normal that people know what to do to pass time. Then the worst service and crazy thing happened. The boarding time on board for LA and at gate A9 was clearly 8:50AM. At 8:40, surprised by not having any boarding activities, then one single staff showed up and said to a few passengers that the boarding would be delayed without a time frame. Since only a few people know, I asked another Emirates staff at another counter, who simply said basically non of his business. I was shocked with that indifferent attitude. Yet every boards I saw show the same boarding time. What kind of system failure was that to prepare delay situation! How confusing and unnecessary chaos and anger that provoke. That poor staff had to repeat himself so many times, answered questions that he had no power nor information to provide nor solved. One an only one stuff to show up for 10 min, leaving the counter non-staff with board showing 8:50AM boarding. This was purely irresponsible from top to bottom of the entire airline operation staff. What kind of leader in a service industry would allow this to happen to their customers. Without explanation, after changing 3 times the boarding times, again, means you should not go to eat a full meal, because, when you found a mob at the gate. People who were stranded for 2 days were afraid of not getting a seat with a full plane. That would not be happening if the airline provide adequate guidance to each person, instead of just having 4 staff yelling at the gate at the same time to "control" the crowd, threatening no boarding and delay boarding. Finally, I was on board, hungry and tired, not sleep for 36 hours. I was denied with a snack of fruit. By the time meal was served, it was an hour later. Half way of the trip, I felt sleep in fetus position and did not want to move, happy I finally could have some shut eyes time. However, when I got up to the bathroom, I felt very light headed. Having sleep deprived, constipated for 3 days, dehydrated, I knew it could happen since my blood pressure usually was low closed to 90/60. Any lower then that, I could have syncope. Sure enough, I was on the floor just 10 feet from my seat and 5 feet to the bathroom. However, nobody called for help. I asked for warm water and juice to hydrate, came only with cold and icy drinks which I wouldn't take. I asked for blankets, one was given. Yet my shivering, needs to cover my head and multiple requests did not hasten to take the two blankets that are at my seat 10 feet away. I waited 10 min for that. While 2-3 staff surrounded me, nobody did the vitals until after 15 min, just the spirometer only of which did not work due to my cold fingers. The first reading was 86 and oxygen was suggested. But another supervising personnel came, fussed over another reading, ignoring my comfort and needs. Seemingly the reading of spirometer was the priority. By then, no oxygen needed. I had this fainting experience before, and I knew how to help myself. However, I was not being listened to but to be told this and that. Finally, I got better and returned to seat. One kind flight attendant said she would check back with me in 15 min. She did not come back. I felt asleep in that fetus position again and this time I woke up with a bad cramp at my left leg. Yet I needed to go to bathroom, the cramp was too bad to walk. So I stepped back to seat. When I tried again the second time, the other front leg got cramp. This time I dare not move but massaged myself. For all these 5-10 min, I called for attention. Attendants passed me by because they were carried with heavy load of blankets and stuff. Nobody answered the light. Then came landing and off board. I was asked by two attendants how I felt. I smiled and said "fine".

The customer service was very poor. I didn’t get any accommodations for my cancelled flight. I was without any sleep for 36 hours.

The customers before boarding the plane from Dubai was HORRENDOUS. The entire Emirates staff had a stick up their bum. The guy at the check in booth was rude. I don’t understand.

Food is really bad, not to the Emirates standards. Coming out of Houston airport is very confusing,

Service needs to improve. Air hostess do not register flyers request and we need to keep on repeating our request to them on multiple occasions

The flight was great. We had to purchase extra long seats for the long flight. But overall it was great.

Checkin and boarding staff at Delhi Airport is not cooperative with passengers Their behavior very humiliating . They don’t allow Lap top bag and Ladies’ purse/vanity bag which most of the airlines allow besides cabin baggage and check in baggages. They try to charge extra payment on the pretext of small variations which normally other Airlines staff don’t do. Airline staff should be courteous & cooperative but check in staff of Emirates Airline at Delhi was not so at all.

The experience was not as pleasant returning as leaving. Went through clearance twice, crew was not as customer focused.

Our flight was delayed three times. It took us 17 hours to get home.

The flight crew was fantastic. The flight attendants were incredibly considerate, kind and attentive.

After the morning frenzy of 35 min wait through CLT security at 4;30 AM, it was nice to have a smooth pleasant boarding experience. This 6:30 AM flight was not full. We were able to get seated swiftly and took off promptly. Nice touch they distributed the old fashioned headsets with 8 mm jacks. Snacks were decent and arrival was uneventful.

My window shade didn’t work. So I missed coming into my city. ☹️

Food was very very bad! Same flight from US was amazing with great food but the food prepared for the flight from Cape Town to New York was not eatable. The crew also did not smile once. They all looked like it was a shift they had not signed up for but were forced to take. :(

Flight was delayed in the gate by 5 hours and ultimately cancelled- rebooking service by United agents was terrible

Flight was delayed due to the late arrival of the catering truck, which is quite unacceptable. There was a beverage service, but no pretzel, or cookie, or nuts were served in coach.

Not worth the price of premium class ticket paid, felt more like steerage.

I have to wait for plane in Denver for three hours. I don’t receive my luggage in Denver. I come back home without the luggage and I wait till next day to see my luggage again. Not really good experience with United airlines. I’m sorry to say that.

Flighty delayed on boarding - then group 1 had to check their carry on bags but groups 3 and beyond could carry bags on - very inconvenient for weekend business trip with no checked baggage. Then delayed on the runway - before take off. No communication from pilot on why or how long. Wifi/Entertainment didn't work for 4+ flight. Upon arrival, attendants announced wrong carousel for baggage claim - everyone was waiting at the wrong place for their checked bags. This was a mess united!

Captain waited 45 minutes for late passengers boarding from Washington DC to Munich which was nice for them but caused our luggage to miss boarding our connection on to Bucharest. We then did not receive our luggage for about 48 hours after landing which was very inconvenient for our travel.

The worst experience of my life and I have been flying for 33 years

We were very upset when we checked in for our flight to be charged 208,00 euro for luggage fees when the site clearly states we are authorized one checked bag each and one carry-on. We have never experienced anything like this with Lufthansa and are very disappointed. We should be reimbursed this erroneous charge. I can forward all receipts once I am able to scan the them.

Crew was very nice and helpful. It was a good flight experience.

Efficient boarding. Good flight but seats were quite uncomfortable considering we'd already been sitting on two flights, total 13 hours or so. Would have liked to have prices on the menu of amenities on the plane. We could have used more water. Restrooms and nonalcoholic beverages at no extra cost, not much else. I realize these were discount tickets, and the airline has to break even, so I can't say we were expecting amenities to be plentiful. Still, it's nice with long flights to discover a few. Very pleasant crew though.

Crew was super rude in business class. Not friendly or helpful. Luggage was damaged and was told to file with United and that was unsuccessful.

I asked for a window seat and when I got on the plane 24A did not have a window so was very not happy, but good and entertainment was good and the staff was very good, so the only complaint was the seating.

Flights were actually with Aer Lingus outward and American Airlines & Aer Lingus on the return journey. Outward flight with Aer Lingus was good but the return flight with them was not so good as our seats were in a poor condition (15A & 15C) and looked like they needed replacing! The American Airlines flight from Miami to JFK New York was good and the seats were very comfortable and spacious (32D & 32E)

Awful. Flight delayed and we missed our long flight to Rome. It has been a nightmare and we have still not arrived. It was NOT a weather delay, just poor planning by AA

My seat was in a good row. In our section it was the first row. But it was difficult tooperate seat entertainment features > table, screen, even though I often fly.

Boarding was as fast and efficient as possible. The flight crew were amazing and extremely friendly. We enjoyed our flight.

There was nothing to like besides the crew. The comfort of the airplane was poor (seat did not work properly and it was not comfortable). The “entertainment” system did not work! On a flight that last nearly eight hours, (which is advertised as having excellent entertainment options), that is unacceptable! Passengers should have been given free WiFi for the flight. The food served on the flight was below school lunch grade food. (With one exception, the ice cream snack). The chicken entree was tough and nearly impossible to cut and eat. The “pizza” served later in the flight was worse. The chicken pizza had a dry crust and the “toppings” were equally not enjoyable. The amount of chicken and cheese were almost non existent. Overall not a flight we would want to repeat!!

There was a problem in the luggage because there were not porters

2-1/2 hours on tarmac after arrival to DFW, lost connection to London, 3 hours wait for customer assistance, stayed on our own account in DFW, no replacement flight for 5 days, had to cancel the entire travel and return to Monterrey today.

My worst flying experience so far. This flight was delayed a total of 42 hours and diverted to New York before it was finally cancelled. It was delayed 4 and a half hours in London. As we were scanning our boarding passes at the gate they advised that the flight was being diverted to JFK since the delays caused us to missed the open hours for Charlotte international customs and immigration. We were assured multiple times by airport personnel, flight attendants, and the Pilot that we would land at JFK go through customs and immigration and then reboard the plane to fly to Charlotte in the same night. When we landed in New York the pilot advised us as we were retrieving our carry on luggage that we were delayed till 10am the next morning and to see guest services to get a room for the night. During this time I had to purchase a room for a family member in Charlotte which drove over 4 and a half hours to pick us up from Charlotte. This could have been avoided if American Airlines had been up front about the delay. Then after standing in line for over 2 and a half hours at guest services we were taken by taxi to a hotel 30 minutes out of the way. Luckily I looked for other flights that night and found one at 8 am to get on. The initial flight which we were scheduled to fly to charlotte in was delayed 12 more times and was finally cancelled 42 hours after it was supposed to land. I am unaware of what happened to the guest that were supposed to fly on the flight after we were placed on another flight but 42 hours in delays for a direct flight is absolutely ridiculous.

The boarding to Gatwick was a breeze but the boarding from Gatwick was a nightmare. The onboard service to Gatwick had a lot to be desired but the onboard sevice from Gatwick was amazing ! Very nice, friendly and funny ! Would I recommend BA to anyone.? ! Yes I would!

Very poor experience for the price paid. Airplane interior including seats were old and jaded. Seat tray table did not work properly. Head phone was defective and didn’t work. Food was mediocre

However, the TV's did not work so I'm glad we brought our own entertainment.

The Air India lounge in Delhi , was very disappointing! The food was of poor quality and options were limited especially for vegetarians!! Beverages were fine. The in flight crew was excellent! . They helped me with my seat controls - the controls did not work without a hassle or assistance!! A very poor showing for a Business cabin!!! Post flight , the wheel chair passengers ( including Me) were “ shepherded and left waiting twice (an hour or more) before taking us to immigration! I chose to Fly Air India because I want. to patronize our National carrier with the hope that the experience will improve!!! Regrettably, I will have to look at other options for my next trip to India

Entertainment system was not working and was told I would get a voucher and have not got one. No toiletries were available not even a toothbrush false sweet talk by ground staff

Worst International flight I ever had in my whole life time. Boarding is the worst of all and flight experience was also not good. Screens were not working, seats were not comfortable and lot more.

Air India needs to launch new planes. Seats are worn out, most of the plane's TV screens wasn't working, USB charging ports wasn't working as well so I can charge my phone & watch my download movies, Food was mediocre, the plane smells. How can Air India put through their customers with this bad experience? This complaint needs to get escalated to the upper management. How shameful is the upper management to improve this plane? The flight is going back & forth from NEW YORK & DELHI. Two of the big cities in the world and this is how your experience is for sitting in a plane for 12+ hrs? Get your planes fixed ASAP Air India (TATA Management do your job right).

One of my worst experiences. Nothing was working in the flight. Entertainment system was broken, seat was very uncomfortable, crew did not offer water until food was provided, lights were not working, attendant call was not working. In short everything was broken and duct taped.

Old aircraft, crew were so so. Meals were mediocre. Flight to delhi was delayed. Lounge needs update and was mediocre too.

The food on board the flight was atrocious - tasteless, spicy as hell, and simply a hodge podge of nonsensical items of poor quality.

The crew smile nicely when you board and exit, in between they are sullen and innattentive

Here’s the best trick to find cheap flights, especially if you want to discover new places. Use a search engine to find attractions that are budget-friendly & plan your travel around that. It helps you visit your favourite places without spending too much, which is perfect for satisfying your desire to explore.

  • Get Help from Travel Agents

Think about using travel agents or agencies when you’re booking your flight to India. These are people who are really good at finding the best travel choices for you. They have access to special deals that you might not come across on your own.

  • Snag Student and Senior Citizen Discounts

Some airlines give discounts to students and senior citizens on air ticket prices. Even though these discounts might not be huge, usually around 8-10%, they can still save you some money. If you’re travelling with your children or parents, you can also check if there are extra discounts available.

  • Delete Your Cookies

Cookies are bits of data that remember what you’ve searched for online. Travel companies and airlines use this info to decide on prices. Deleting your cookies means you’re starting again from scratch, so you won’t see higher prices based on your past searches.

  • Compare Flight Prices Before You Buy

Make sure to look at prices from different airlines before you make a decision. Once you’ve looked at all of them, you can pick the flight tickets that fit your budget the best and help you save big.

  • Consider Budget or Local Airlines

Sometimes, local airlines don’t show up when you search online, especially for places that aren’t as well-known or far away. Spend some time searching for these local airlines on Google. When you find them, check for good deals so you can book flights without paying too much.

  • Opt For Non-Refundable Air Tickets

Usually, tickets you can’t get your money back for are cheaper than the ones you can. If you’re sure about when and where you’re travelling, it’s smart to choose non-refundable air tickets. That way, you can save some cash on your flight.

  • Consider Booking Connecting Flights

If you have more time, think about booking a flight with layovers. It can be a cheaper choice. Search engines let you choose flights with a certain number of stops. Consider booking them and enjoy big savings.

  • Sign Up For Fare Alert Notifications

When you’re looking at different airline websites, make sure to set up alerts for prices. These alerts will tell you when there are good deals available before they’re gone. Also, follow budget airlines on social media. They often share new deals and offers, so you’ll always know what’s happening.

  • Use Special Debit & Credit Cards Offers

Some offers are made just for people who use debit or credit cards. For example, if you have a card from a certain bank, search for a flight ticket with that bank’s name on Google. You’ll probably find a page on the bank’s website or flight booking sites with special codes for more discounts.

  • Use A Digital Wallet For Extra Discounts

If you have money in a digital wallet, you can use it to get an extra discount when you buy your flight tickets to India. This can help you save even more on your travel costs and spend that money to explore new things during your trip.

  •  Reserve Your Plane Tickets Early

Try to book your flight tickets between 30 to 90 days before your trip. A study found that the cheapest prices for flights were usually available around 57 days before you fly. They checked prices for different flights inside the country and saw a trend.

  • Choose To Take Red-Eye Flights

Think about taking flights at strange hours if it works for your trip. Flights late at night or red-eye flights can sometimes cost less. This could be a good idea for people travelling alone who don’t have a specific time they need to get to their destination.

While you’re planning, remember these tips for getting the best flight deals mentioned above. That way, you can enjoy every moment of your journey without stressing about ticket prices.

When you’re getting ready for a trip, one important thing to think about is your flight tickets. That’s where MyTicketsToIndia can help – they know a lot about travel and can help you find good deals on affordable flight tickets.

Airbnb vs. Vrbo: Which vacation rental platform is right for you?

what is travel cost from india to usa

  • Airbnb has more listings than Vrbo.
  • Vrbo offers only private rentals.
  • Both platforms offer 24/7 customer support.

Vacation rentals come in all layouts and sizes. But if you plan to book one, there’s a good chance you’ll do it on Airbnb or Vrbo.

The two platforms are among the most popular options for travelers looking for lodging. Madeline List, a senior research analyst at Phocuswright who has studied the short-term rental industry, said there is “a lot of cross-listing” so users may find the same rental on multiple platforms.

“So there is definitely some overlap between the two platforms,” she told USA TODAY. However, while they have similarities, there are some differences that may help prospective guests decide which is right for their trip.

What sets Airbnb apart?

For starters, it has more listings.

“Airbnb is huge in the space, and it's certainly dominant,” List said. Phocuswright said it had over 7.7 million listings in its 2024 spring update , as compared with more than 2 million on Vrbo.

The platform boasts greater brand awareness, too. Phocuswright’s U.S. Short-Term Rental Report 2021 – its most recent that measured that metric – found that 78% of short-term rental users surveyed were aware of Airbnb as offering that type of accommodation, while 50% named Vrbo. (Phocuswright surveyed adult consumers in the U.S. with internet access who had traveled overnight and stayed in a paid short-term rental for leisure within the previous two years, and got 983 qualified responses).

List noted, however, that the numbers may have shifted since and Vrbo has done a “push for more brand recognition.”

She added that Airbnb “has also done a lot of really strong work trying to push properties that feel very unique and that feel like very differentiated experiences.”

The company recently launched its Icons category – including the clock room at the Musée d’Orsay and a replica of Carl Fredricksen's house from Disney and Pixar’s “Up” – and has other listings ranging from houseboats to yurts.

“We believe Airbnb offers more unique places to stay and unforgettable experiences than any other travel platform,” Airbnb’s chief business officer Dave Stephenson said in an email. “Whatever your travel budget or ideal getaway, whether you're traveling solo or with a group, there are Airbnb listings with great amenities that can provide you with a magical time almost anywhere in the world.”

What sets Vrbo apart?

Vrbo may have fewer listings, but it had an established presence even before Airbnb existed. Expedia Group acquired the platform in 2015 – then known as VRBO – as part of HomeAway. VRBO rebranded to Vrbo in 2019, before the company retired HomeAway in the U.S. the following year.

“Vrbo pioneered the vacation rental category nearly 30 years ago and has remained dedicated to providing travelers with consistent and reliable vacation rentals,” Melanie Fish, vice president of Global PR for Expedia Group Brands, said in an email. “It’s not about spaceships or a celebrity’s garage – just real, fully functioning homes meant to be lived in and enjoyed together with family and friends.”

While Airbnb customers can rent a room in someone else’s home , Vrbo offers only private rentals. That way, Fish said, “guests always get the whole place to themselves and never share the space with a host.”

Vrbo guests can also participate in Expedia Group’s One Key rewards program , allowing them to earn OneKeyCash they can use on the site, or Expedia.com and Hotels.com. The platform also shows total prices including fees by default (hidden charges have been a source of frustration for many travelers). Airbnb users must use a toggle to turn on the total price display .

Vrbo has also received 2,934 Better Business Bureau complaints in the past three years, while Airbnb has received 7,580.

Does Airbnb or Vrbo cost more?

Hosts set listing prices, List said, and those can vary.

“It might be slightly different across sites for all sorts of technical reasons, like the types of commissions and fees they pay to the different booking sites or the types of dynamic pricing tools or fee structures that they're able to set on the back end,” she noted.

If one platform allows them to add a certain fee and another doesn’t have that capability, the host may adjust the pricing to compensate.

“The best way to save money on booking fees is by booking directly with (a rental) operator, but for various reasons that either might not be an option in certain destinations – not everyone has a direct booking site – or it might not be something people feel comfortable with because there's certainly more purchase security when you book through these centralized sites like Airbnb and Vrbo,” List added.

Despite their differences, they have plenty in common, too (both offer 24/7 customer support, for instance). “The (user experience) certainly has a lot of similarities to it,” List said.

Why airfares in India are going through the roof

Any respite in the near term is likely only if and when the tidal wave of travel demand ebbs, which is likely only once this year’s peak summer travel season is behind us. longer-term price stability and affordability will depend on various other factors too..

what is travel cost from india to usa

Airfares in India are soaring. While they had started firming up last year itself as travel demand rebounded after the Covid pandemic subsided, this year’s summer travel season has seen an unusually high spike in ticket prices. Go First’s bankruptcy plea and subsequent suspension of its flights joined other factors such as surging demand and capacity constraints, among others, in forcing flyers to pay through their noses bang in the middle of the country’s peak summer travel season.

Social media platforms are replete with consumers complaining about surge pricing. The government, too, has taken note of “abnormal surge pricing on certain routes” and asked airlines to “self-monitor” and devise a mechanism to ensure reasonable pricing on such routes.

what is travel cost from india to usa

Any respite in the near term, however, is likely only if and when the tidal wave of travel demand ebbs, which is likely only once this year’s peak summer travel season is behind us. Longer-term price stability and affordability will depend on various other factors too, including travel demand trajectory, the pace of capacity addition by airlines, and jet fuel prices and other cost centres.

A perfect storm: High demand, capacity constraints, Go First bankruptcy

On May 2, Go First announced that it was voluntarily filing for insolvency and the airline has not operated even a single flight since May 3. In April, the Wadia group airline had ferried close to 8.3 lakh flyers and held a domestic market share of over 6 per cent. The sudden disappearance of Go First’s capacity from the market was the last thing consumers needed. Market leader IndiGo and SpiceJet were already affected by capacity constraints as parts of their fleet were grounded due to different reasons.

Festive offer

On the other hand, demand surged, notwithstanding high airfares. As per preliminary industry data, May saw over 1.3 crore domestic flyers, up from March and April, and likely higher than or at least comparable with the pre-pandemic peaks. For some time now, industry insiders have been highlighting that flyers seem to be willing to shell out more on travel after the pandemic. The pent-up demand from the pandemic, which scuttled travel plans of many people for up to two years, just does not seem to be abating.

“Despite an increase in airfares by about 35-40 per cent for domestic routes compared to the previous year, our customers are displaying an increased appetite for travel spending. The surge in domestic airfares for favourite tourism routes are resulting in international short hauls becoming an attractive option in comparison,” said Indiver Rastogi, President & Group Head of Global Business Travel at Thomas Cook (India) and SOTC Travel.

Even as other carriers did depute additional capacities on routes where Go First was a sizable player, the demand-supply mismatch could not be fully mitigated.

Although airfares generally have been higher in recent weeks, it is worth noting that abnormal surges have been witnessed mostly on routes with a strong Go First presence and some others seeing rapid growth in demand. Also, surges are mostly seen in cases where flights are being booked closer to the date of travel.

  • What Lok Sabha election results could tell about consumption divide in India

  • What explains Franz Kafka’s cultural relevance a century after his death?

Go First’s absence has rewarded other airlines in the form of higher load factors. But very high load factors are a problem for flyers, particularly those who book their tickets last minute or very close to the date of travel, as very limited available inventory means they are likely to be offered seats in the top fare buckets.

Most-affected routes

According to industry insiders, routes affected the most are the ones connecting major cities with airports like Leh, Srinagar, Goa , Bagdogra, Ahmedabad , and Pune , and other popular travel destinations like Andamans and Kerala.

“Despite the current situation with capacity constraints driving airfares, Indian travellers are making the most of the summer vacation period. We are witnessing brisk demand of over 3x compared to last year. Airfares for popular leisure sectors from Mumbai , Delhi and Bengaluru have witnessed a surge versus last month–Leh 60-80%, Srinagar, Chandigarh , and Port Blair 50-70 per cent, and Kochi and Goa 40 per cent,” Rastogi said.

According to Sabina Chopra, Chief Operating Officer for Corporate Travel and Head of Industry Relations at Yatra.com, the travel booking website is seeing 20-25 per cent higher demand in the domestic travel sector compared to pre-pandemic levels. As compared to the summer travel season last year, Yatra.com has observed an increase of 15-20 per cent in domestic airfares.

With regard to routes affected the most by the suspension of Go First flights, Chopra said, “According to our data, the most popular routes were Srinagar, Ladakh, Delhi-Mumbai, Mumbai- Bangalore , and Bangalore-Chennai. These routes had consistently witnessed high demand and had played a pivotal role for the airline.”

Higher fuel cost vis-à-vis pre-pandemic period

The cost of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) , or jet fuel, might not be playing a role in month-on-month or even year-on-year rise in airfares to current levels, but it is a significant factor in how fares have moved between the pre-pandemic period and the present. ATF is the single-biggest cost for airlines and for Indian carriers, it accounts for over 40 per cent of their operational expenses.

While the price of jet fuel has cooled off from year-ago levels and is also lower than in preceding months, it is significantly higher than the levels seen in 2019 and early 2020, just before the pandemic brought the aviation industry to its knees. As per data provided by the country’s largest fuel retailer Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), jet fuel is currently priced at Rs 89,303.09 per kilolitre, down from Rs 95,935.34 in May and significantly lower than the peak of Rs 1.41 lakh in the second half of June 2022. However, when compared to March 2020 and June 2019, jet fuel prices are currently higher by 57 per cent and 37.4 per cent, respectively.

“Due to the escalating fuel costs, airfares have seen a significant rise of 30-40 per cent across all domestic routes (compared to pre-pandemic levels),” Chopra said.
