visit visa medical insurance uae

Im intend to apply for this visa and am uncertain about the insurance.

Which insurance would be best suited for me and my 8 month old daughter, we plan to visit UAE for 30 days per visit.

I visited the daman website and saw that they offer zayarah insurance but require dates before hand that cant be switched and for some reason i dont get my visa by then, the fee will be wasted.

Any idea how long it takes for this visa to process?

Also any recommendations for best suited insurance?

' class=

you need to have insurance which is valid for 1Y from a uae based company, you can get it from Oman insurance or Orient insurance. visa process takes maximum 4 to 5 working days. can be applied directly to ICA website. you need to attach your bank statement for the last 6 month under your name . applicant should have 4K US$ bank balance.

Thank you so much for your response.

I hope this isnt a stupid question but does the bank stament need to reflect that i have had 4000 usd for the past 6 months?

And do I need 8000 usd in one account if im applying for a visa for myself and my daughter.

as far as i know yes, you should have 4K for 6 months in your accounts. since lots of people trying to bypass the same just doing a deposit for few months or weeks in order to get the visa. i know someone's visa was rejected stating the fund issue.

since you are applying for yourself and kids they may ask for 8K am not sure, it says per applicant.

i am applying UAE multiple enry visa and need insurance . so please guide me which insurance is valid for that

you can get the same from any uae based insurance, you can check online, Orient and Oman insurance is well known.

Safety and Travel Insurance Advice for the UAE

While medical care is exceptional in many areas of the UAE, it can also be expensive. Therefore, it is a good idea to have travel health insurance when you enter the UAE. A UAE travel insurance plan will ensure that you can get the best care available in an emergency without worrying about the costs.

If you are having a medical emergency, the UAE has fantastic medical facilities available. Many of them are accredited by international medical and hospital associations. Since 2008, the country has been working on unifying and stabilizing its health care system.

Travel Insurance Plans for Visitors to the UAE

The UAE has some excellent hospitals and overall great health care. However, services can be costly for visitors who are not insured. We recommend the following UAE travel insurance plans when visiting the country. Both plans cover Covid-19 for travelers to the UAE and other countries.

WorldTrips Atlas travel insurance

  • Emergency medical, evacuation, repatriation benefits
  • Choose between the basic and more extensive coverage
  • Meets Schengen visa insurance requirements
  • 24/7 worldwide travel and emergency medical assistance

Seven Corners Insurance

Seven Corners Travel Medical Insurance

  • Comprehensive medical coverage with benefits up to $5,000,000.
  • Adventure activities coverage available.
  • Emergency Medical Evacuation protection up to $500,000.

General Safety Tips and Staying Healthy in the United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is a relatively safe travel destination. Most incidents arise from either cultural differences or the weather, both of which can be managed with the appropriate knowledge and preparation.

United Arab Emirates Insurance for Visitors

Desert Life

The UAE is a subtropical desert. The country typically experiences very hot summers, with the highest temperatures in July and August, and fairly dry, mild winters. The country rarely receives rainfall making dust storms a hazard, although when rain occurs, flooding can also be an issue.

Heatstroke is one of the most common issues travelers to the UAE experience. Be sure to drink plenty of water. However, you should avoid drinking tap water or beverages containing ice made with tap water, because it may be contaminated with bacteria or other impurities. Bottled water or carbonated beverages in a can will be the safest choice to drink.

Due to the hot climate, tourists are often tempted to wear loose-fitting, casual clothing. Dress codes in the UAE are closely tied with religious views and even the legal system. Men should dress conservatively and show very little skin. Women should follow the same rules to a greater extent, making sure not to show bare shoulders, knees, legs, or arms.

In some areas – although usually not in the touristy parts – women may be required to cover their faces as well. While this may be inconvenient, covering up is also the best way to protect against extreme sun exposure, in addition to wearing sunscreen whenever outdoors.

Vaccines, Necessary Medicines, and Pharmacies When Traveling to the United Arab Emirates

Vaccinations.

Before departing to the UAE, it is important to check that you are current with all routine vaccinations. The CDC recommends that travelers to and expats in the UAE get a booster shot for hepatitis A and typhoid, both of which can be spread through food. The best way to avoid these diseases is to keep away from undercooked food or game meat that typically would not be served in the US.

Some travelers may also want to get a Hepatitis B shot. If you prefer not to, this disease can be prevented by avoiding sexual contact, abstaining from drug use that requires injection, and avoiding piercings or tattoos while abroad. Rabies vaccinations are only recommended if you will be traveling through remote areas or working closely with animals.

There are a variety of international sites to help you stay up to date on any health advice that applies to a safe trip abroad.

MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) is a viral respiratory illness that has occurred in countries throughout the Arabian Peninsula. Its symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. There are no advisories about avoiding travel because of it, but it is smart to take precautions such as washing your hands, avoiding ill individuals, and avoiding consuming raw camel milk (which has been linked to the disease in other countries). People with weakened immune systems, diabetes, kidney disease, or chronic lung failure are considered high risk for MERS. There is currently no vaccination or standardized treatment for the virus. The disease is rare and very close contact is needed for transmission.

Some prescribed medicines from other countries are considered controlled substances in the UAE, and therefore illegal. Check with your local embassy for a list, and see if you need permission from the UAE Ministry of Health prior to your stay in the country in order to bring medications in. Without this permission, you may be subject to prosecution under UAE law.

Most pharmacists in the UAE are expats themselves and it’s a growing industry there. You’ll be able to find pharmacies in most private and public hospitals, and the number is increasing due to the rapid growth in expatriates.

Outside of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, 24-hour pharmacies may be difficult to locate in the UAE. Most are open Saturday-Thursday. Some may be open for limited hours on Friday, but most are closed due to religious activities.

Medical Services in the United Arab Emirates

The healthcare system in the UAE has improved substantially in the last decade. Dubai has recently made it a law that all employers must provide healthcare to their employees free of charge. Consultation and some care are free to nationals and expatriates may receive subsidized medical service and easy access to facilities. However, it is generally recommended that visitors obtain UAE travel insurance to enter the country.

UAE travel insurance is mandated for certain visas. If you don’t need a visa or you can get a visa on arrival, you are not required to have travel insurance. But getting travel insurance for the UAE will cover you if you wind up in a sticky situation like a medical emergency.

Health Insurance in Dubai

All people residing in the UAE, citizens and expats, are required by law to have health insurance. Citizens living in the emirate of Dubai who are not covered by any other insurance have access to the program Saada. The emirate also requires employers to provide health insurance for resident expatriates, but not their dependents. Abu Dhabi covers its citizens through the Thiqa program; employers are required to provide health insurance for resident expatriates and their dependents (one spouse and up to three children).

If you will be working in the country, you will need international health insurance because a UAE travel insurance plan is insufficient. If you are moving to the UAE with your family, you will also need to arrange coverage for your dependents in most instances, the exception being certain dependents in Abu Dhabi. You will also need to arrange protection for other dependents and any domestic workers you will employ. You may also want to arrange for international health insurance if the UAE health insurance your employer provides is not sufficient for your needs.

Visa Options for Traveling or Working in the UAE

Most travelers to and expatriates in the UAE are required to apply for a visa. Even if you are only transiting through the airport, if you will be there longer than 8 hours, you will need a visa. The kind of visa you need will depend on why you are going to the UAE and how long you want to stay there.

If you are changing planes in Dubai or Abu Dhabi and have more than 8 hours between flights, you will need to obtain a transit visa, which can be done through your airline or online. If you are staying longer, people of many nationalities can receive a tourist visa on arrival at the immigration counter at Dubai International Airport or Abu Dhabi International Airport. This will be valid for 30 days and can be extended for an additional 30 days for a fee.

If you are hoping to work in the United Arab Emirates you will need the sponsorship of the company that is hiring you or a resident of the UAE. The visa process will likely be managed by the company, but you will have to provide the necessary paperwork and take a blood test. It is important to note that the UAE will detain and deport any non-citizen who tests positive for HIV, and may also do so for people testing positive for tuberculosis or hepatitis.

Citizens from GCC nations - Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia - do not need a visa to travel to and work in the UAE. Be sure to cancel your work visa upon leaving the country to avoid complications.

Stay Safe - Follow the Local Law and Customs in the United Arab Emirates

The UAE legal system is based on a civil law system much like the U.S., although it does have some elements of Sharia law that can be confusing for tourists. The word Sharia comes from Arabic and is roughly translated to morals. Many of these laws relate to legal punishments for issues involving sexuality, hygiene, religion, etc. It is often associated with the religion of Islam but has other uses within the Arab world as well.

Some of the legal issues travelers to the UAE should be aware of specifically involve physical affection between individuals as well as drug and alcohol use. Kissing in public is illegal, and foreigners are deported on a regular basis for violating this law. Additionally, premarital sex is a grievous violation as is homosexuality, both of which have led to the prosecution of foreigners in recent years. Underage drinking, public drunkenness, and any form of drug use are also criminal offenses that can be prosecuted. Foreigners are subject to these laws and can face lengthy prison sentences or worse for violations.

While most of the population in the United Arab Emirates identifies as Muslim, the government has adopted a strict non-discrimination policy between religions. Proselytizing is forbidden, as is criticizing or preventing the practice of any religion. That said, during the month of Ramadan, it is illegal for both Muslims and non-Muslims to eat or drink in public during daylight hours.

The UAE has one of the most disproportionate gender ratios in the world, with three men per woman . This gender ratio is mostly driven by foreign male laborers, particularly in construction. As a result, single females are often targeted by men. That is not to say women are the only targets. A number of male tourists have reported rape and sexual assault—by women and other men—in the UAE. Unfortunately, because sex outside of marriage is illegal, people who report they have been raped are often arrested and imprisoned for months . While the country has grown to economic prosperity for its protection of tourists and foreigners, it is also widely criticized for perceived human rights violations and failure to prosecute crimes against foreigners.

Is Travel Insurance Required When Visiting Dubai?

Daytime City Skyline Under A Blue Sky

If you plan to apply for a UAE visa, you will need to provide proof of travel insurance. While travel insurance is not obligatory for all visitors, it is highly recommended to purchase a policy to protect yourself from unexpected expenses.

Travel insurance can provide coverage for medical emergencies, trip disruptions, and the loss of personal belongings. In cases of unforeseen circumstances, such as illness or accidents, having travel insurance can offer financial protection and peace of mind.

Although travel insurance is not a legal requirement, it can be a wise investment to ensure a worry-free trip and protect yourself from potential financial burdens in the event of unexpected events.

Below is a table denoting the average cost of travel insurance policies by level of coverage.

Mandatory Health Insurance for Dubai Residents

Dubai has implemented a mandatory health insurance requirement for all residents as part of the Dubai Health Insurance Law. This law ensures that every resident, including expatriates and their dependents, has access to healthcare services and financial protection against medical expenses.

Health Insurance for Employees

In the case of employment, the UAE medical insurance law requires employers to offer their employees a basic health plan that has an annual premium ranging from USD $136 to $190 (AED 500 – AED 700) and a maximum coverage limit of USD $408 (AED 1,500) per person per year.

The minimum coverage should include the following:

  • General practitioner visits
  • Emergency treatments
  • Specialists and surgical procedures
  • Investigative procedures
  • Maternity procedures
  • Medical emergencies
  • Trip disruption
  • Loss of personal belongings
  • Emergency evacuation and repatriation of mortal remains

Documents Required for Dubai Residence Visa Insurance

When applying for Dubai residence visa insurance, there are certain documents that you will need to provide. These documents may include:

  • Passport copies of the insured individuals
  • Visa copy of the insured individuals
  • Emirates ID copy of the insured individuals
  • Medical history records, if applicable
  • Proof of payment for the insurance premium

Additionally, if you’re applying for a Dubai residence visa , you’ll need to submit a number of supporting documents that prove your identity, nationality, medical fitness test, insurance coverage, and any employment contracts.

The list of documents required for submission is as follows:

  • A UAE visa application form
  • Your original passport
  • Two passport sized photos (in accordance with UAE’s visa photo requirements)
  • Your entry visa
  • Proof of legal residency, UAE citizenship, or sponsor’s legal residency
  • Medical fitness certificates
  • Proof of UAE health insurance or private health insurance
  • For families: family visas, birth certificates, and marriage certificates
  • For work visas: a copy of your work contract and copies of your employer’s valid trade license and firm card are required
  • Any documents supporting your purpose of travel

Medical Fitness Test

When applying for a visa to work or live in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), you must first pass a medical fitness test. This thorough checkup guarantees that no one has any communicable diseases like tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, Syphilis, Leprosy, Hepatitis A, B, and C.

The medical fitness test comprises the following tests:

  • Blood tests: To test for HIV
  • Chest X-rays: To test for pulmonary tubercolosis

Overall, it is vital to confirm with your insurance company or employer the precise paperwork they will need to process your application for a Dubai residence visa or insurance policy.

Having the necessary health insurance coverage and providing the required documents will ensure a smooth visa application process and compliance with the Dubai residence visa insurance requirements.

Dubai Health Insurance Law: Mandatory Coverage for Dubai Residents

Illuminated Dubai Downtown Skyline At Night

The Dubai Health Insurance Law , implemented in 2014, is a crucial aspect of residing in Dubai. Under this law, all residents in the emirate, including expatriates and their dependents, are required to have health insurance coverage.

Employers have the responsibility of providing health insurance coverage for their employees. The minimum coverage includes medical emergencies, trip disruption, loss of personal belongings, and emergency evacuation or repatriation of mortal remains.

Non-compliance with the health insurance law can result in fines, visa-related issues, restricted access to healthcare services, employer and sponsor penalties, legal consequences, and reputational damage.

Health Insurance Law in Dubai

Complying with the health insurance law is essential to maintaining a valid legal status, avoiding penalties, and ensuring access to quality healthcare services in Dubai. It is advised to consult with an insurance professional to determine the appropriate coverage that meets the Dubai residence visa insurance requirements.

Below is a table that provides an overview of the key details of the mandatory health insurance law:

Visa Renewal and Health Insurance

Za'abeel Area In Dubai

When renewing a residence visa in Dubai, it is crucial to have valid health insurance coverage. Failure to maintain a valid health insurance policy can lead to delays in visa processing, potential denial of visa renewal, and even legal consequences.

Furthermore, employers are responsible for ensuring that their employees have health insurance coverage that meets the visa requirements. Similarly, sponsors must ensure that their dependents also have adequate health insurance coverage.

It is advisable to thoroughly review your policy and ensure that it meets the requirements set by the Dubai Health Authority. This includes coverage for medical emergencies, trip disruptions, loss of personal belongings, and emergency evacuation or repatriation of mortal remains.

Penalties for Non-compliance with Health Insurance Laws in Dubai

Failure to comply with the health insurance laws in Dubai can have serious consequences.

Residents who do not meet the mandatory health insurance requirements may face fines, visa-related issues, and restricted access to healthcare services. Employers and sponsors are also subject to penalties if they fail to provide health insurance coverage for their employees and dependents.

To avoid these penalties, ensure that you have valid health insurance coverage that meets the minimum requirements set by the Dubai Health Authority. This includes adequate coverage for medical emergencies, trip disruptions, loss of personal belongings, and emergency evacuation or repatriation.

Penalties for Non-compliance

The penalties for non-compliance with health insurance laws in Dubai can vary depending on the severity of the violation. Residents who do not have valid health insurance may be subject to fines ranging from AED 500 to AED 20,000 or more.

In addition to financial penalties, non-compliant residents may face visa-related issues, including delays in visa processing and denial of visa renewal. Below are the penalties associated with non compliance:

By staying compliant with the health insurance laws in Dubai, you can ensure that you and your dependents have access to quality healthcare services and avoid facing penalties that can affect your legal status and overall well-being in the country.

Healthcare Expenses in the UAE

Souk Madinat Jumeirah, Shopping Near Burj Al Arab

Healthcare expenses in the UAE can be a significant financial burden, especially for residents without health insurance. The UAE has a well-developed healthcare system, but medical costs can add up quickly, making it essential to have proper insurance coverage.

Health insurance provides financial protection in case of unexpected medical emergencies, routine check-ups, and chronic illnesses. It ensures that you have access to quality healthcare services without incurring substantial out-of-pocket expenses.

When considering health insurance options for Dubai, it is crucial to research different policies and compare prices. Factors such as the duration of your stay, the coverage you need, your age, and the number of individuals included in your plan can affect the cost of insurance.

By assessing and analyzing various insurance options, you can find the most suitable plan that meets your needs and budget. Below are the advantages of having health insurance in the UAE:

Having health insurance not only provides you with financial security but also ensures that you receive the necessary medical care when you need it the most. By prioritizing health insurance coverage, you can safeguard your well-being and avoid the potential financial burden of healthcare expenses.

Comprehensive Coverage from Expat Health Insurance

In most cases, meeting the minimum insurance requirements for a visa does not necessarily mean you’ll receive the healthcare you need. This is why expat health insurance is recommended—to provide you with comprehensive coverage.

Expat health insurance provides expats with access to the best private healthcare in the UAE, with significantly shorter wait times. Furthermore, expat health insurance provides comprehensive coverage for a wide array of medical services, whether inpatient, outpatient, or specialist treatment.

Expat health insurance offers the following benefits:

  • Global coverage (Optional: Including the United States)
  • Inpatient and outpatient coverage
  • Direct billing
  • Access to the best private hospitals and doctors
  • Unlimited claims
  • English-speaking customer support
  • Emergency evacuation and repatriation services
  • Lifetime renewability
  • Maternity coverage
  • Preventative care

Living in uae.

A UAE-based hospital must sponsor the entry permit for the foreign patient.

Dubai: The UAE ranked first in the Middle East for medical tourism in 2021, according to US-based Medical Tourism Association. In the same year, Dubai received over 600,000 international patients, as per a report released by Dubai Health Authority.

To assist patients who wish to receive medical treatment in the UAE, immigration authorities have made it easier for foreign patients and their family members to apply for visas. According to u.ae, the official website of the UAE government, foreign patients can enter the UAE for treatment under the sponsorship of a government or private hospital. It is the responsibility of the medical establishment to apply for the medical treatment entry permit upon the patient’s request.

For patients seeking medical treatment in Dubai

If a patient is seeking medical treatment in Dubai, they will need to apply for a ‘Medical Entry Permit’ from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs Dubai (GDRFA).

There are two types of entry permits:

Medical Treatment Entry Permit - Single Entry: The holder of this visa must enter the UAE within 60 days from the date of issue and stay for 90 days from the date of entry.

Medical Treatment Entry Permit - Multiple Entry: This visa also has a validity of 60 days, with a permitted stay of 90 days from the date of entry. However, the stay can be extended under this visa, if a medical report is submitted, stating that the patient needs to continue treatment.

In Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates

For Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, foreign patients will need to apply for a medical treatment visa through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP).

There are two types of permits:

• Single entry medical treatment visa • Multiple entry medical treatment visa

Cost The cost of the visa ranges from Dh85 to Dh100, depending on which type of visa you apply for.

Golden Visa holders can opt for basic insurance covers, with annual premiums starting from less than Dh1,000, industry executives have said.

However, long-term residency holders tend to look for international policies, customised plans and prefer to buy separate health insurance for themselves and their dependents rather than as part of their company’s package.

The National Health Insurance Company (Daman) became the first company in the UAE to introduce a health insurance package designed specifically for Golden Visa holders. The premium for Cover Silver starts from as little as Dh2,393 which provides a coverage limit of up to Dh300,000. While Enhanced Gold starts from Dh4,985 with an annual limit of Dh2.5 million and Premier package starts from Dh39,857 with an annual limit of Dh20 million. The packages also provide 180-day coverage outside the UAE during holidays or business trips.

Approximately, over 65,000 people have received the Golden Visa in Dubai.

Hitesh Motwani

“Many Golden Visa holders opt for a comprehensive cover which – depending on age, health factors, hospitals/clinics covered – may range from Dh2,000 to Dh50,000 and can also go beyond that in case of adverse health conditions declared prior to issuance of the policy. However, if a Golden Visa holder wishes to opt for a basic cover, there are options starting under Dh1,000 as well,” says Hitesh Motwani, chief marketing officer at insurancemaket.ae.

Daman’s policy for Golden Visa is valid for one year and can be renewed on a yearly basis.

Neeraj Gupta

Neeraj Gupta, CEO, Policybazaar.ae, said expects by the end of 2022, more insurers would provide special health insurance plans to Golden Visa holders.

Gupta said Golden Visa holders usually want instant comprehensive health insurance plans for themselves and their family members, preferably at some discounted prices or added benefits.

“Golden Visa holders look for a more enhanced plan with added benefits like dental and optical treatment as well. Also, they look for package deals that are valid both inside and outside the UAE,” he said, adding that they prefer to buy separate packages of health insurance for themselves and their dependents.

“They look for out-patient benefits, long-term medications to be dispensed for a maximum duration of the treatment, coverage for dental treatment up to a certain extent, a cover which geographically covers them worldwide, etc. Moreover, the majority of them prefer to have customised plans as per their specific needs,” he said.

Hitesh Motwani said since Golden Visa holders are committed to live and work in the UAE for a longer period, they tend to ask for high-end comprehensive insurance packages with higher annual limits on coverage.

“They also tend to look for international policies usually with a worldwide cover as they tend to travel more frequently. Typically, products of insurers like Aetna, Bupa and Cigna usually check all boxes for such clients as some of their products cover direct billing even when they are abroad,” he said.
