Downtown Mystic Ghost Tours

Downtown Mystic Ghost Stroll guides you through the bustling town of Mystic, in the historic drawbridge district. Featuring true stories of history and mystery, guests will have the opportunity to capture evidence of paranormal phenomena in the town and take a step back in time to stories filled with mystery and dark tales that are rarely told today. The beautiful seaside town is filled with lore and tales that are sure to send a chill up your spine and leave you wondering who walks among us in the dead of night.

Our Original Ghost Walk takes travelers through the historic downtown Mystic landscape crossing the bascule bridge between both sides of the Mystic River, guests will become immersed in the dark, sordid and supernatural history of New England’s famous seafaring village. From 17th century strife of colonial life amidst the Pequot Wars and the King Phillip’s war to mysterious turn of the century murders, Mystic’s history was founded in darkness. As the centuries grew, lost seafarers, creepy cryptids, and scandalous happenings took place in our quaint seaside community. At the same time, people of importance and resilience made Mystic a safe harbor for generations to come.

Hear tales of Revolutionary heroes, industrial revolution hot spots, and Union soldiers of the Civil War still seen in their spectral form all on our Downtown Mystic tour. Our Downtown Mystic tour takes guests from the 17th through 20th centuries in old Mystic with true terrifying tales from our hidden archives and remarkable history amid legends and lore. From curses to paranormal activity, there’s no shortage of the supernatural in downtown Mystic.

This is a 2-hour walking tour encompassing about one mile and taking off just in front of the Mystic River Park on Cottrell Street. This tour is a blend of history and mystery. Tours include tales of the true, gruesome and historic past of Mystic, CT – a walk on the darker side if you will and tales of the true paranormal encounters at these haunted locations today. Guests should be aged 13 and up and should be dressed accordingly for the weather.

This was the best way for a father and a daughter to spend a lovely Sunday afternoon in January. When the gentleman said those magic words "interactive" and "take all the pictures you want" we knew we made the right choice. We walked down the stairs and were immediately immersed in the world of torture. It was grim and chilling, but it was also educational and oddly entertaining. We immediately set about sitting in electic chairs and getting up close and personal with tongue nailing and wooden horsing. If those two phrases don't titilate you - you might check your pulse. I was glad that - despite the interactive atmosphere - the place was clean and well maintained. The temperature in the musuem was moderate which allowed us to take our time and check everythng out. The small cards had educational value and they helped us understand terms like The Judas Cradle and The Scavengers' Daughter. They give enough history to understand how each torture implement works. I was surprised to see entire families down there checking everything out and having a really good time. There is a certain incongruity about a mom and her kid sharing a giggle over The Bridle of Gossip. The art on the walls ranged from recreations of woodblock prints to medical diagrams. These really emphasized the history and set these pieces in their proper eras. If you have a sense of humor and a little bit of a dark side - this is a fun and unique way to spend time. We went to this museum with some loved ones visiting from out of town. Staff members were fine; they were welcoming and kind. Never had an issue. Place was clean. The things I'd normally want to review for a public establishment checked all boxes. The content of the museum has very little written information to contextualize each of the items on display. The information that was given was quite vague. I was particularly disappointed in the lack of background given for torture devices used to mutilate and kill Black and Brown people and limited amount of attention paid to the histories of violence (from the Middle Passage to present) used to perpetuate racism. It was way too clear that the museum was designed for shock value, not to give voice to those tortured and murdered throughout history. Coming at this from the perspective of a museum-goer (complicated as that is), historian, and social theorist, I would never take someone here to actually learn anything. In fact, I'd only return to write a paper about museums as violent institutions. This is, after all, a great case study. Of course, I know this review devalues the "fun" of this place, but this is precisely my point. This museum shouldn't be about fun and laughs. Real people have been beaten, tortured, and murdered. There's so much more that could have been done to honor their lives, but alas, the creators of this "museum" designed a tourist attraction, not an educational experience or respectful space for learning.

Morgan, thank you for your feedback! We are glad that our staff was welcoming and helped you during your visit! We want to assure you that the information presented is curated by a dedicated team of professionals who aim to strike a balance between engagement and education. We recognize the importance of honoring the victims of that era and the horror of that time. Our intent is not to belittle their experiences but to present a unique perspective that encourages contemplation. We appreciate your perspective as it helps us continuously improve and cater to diverse preferences.

If you're into torture, pain then this place is for you. A little hard to believe that human beings would do this to each other but I guess that's mankind for you. Nice self guided tour. Definitely recommend!

Pretty cool place to visit. We purchased off Groupon and came out to about $20 per person. We spent about 45 mins down there. There were a lot of interesting torture methods and some pretty disturbing ones if everything's true. You are free to touch and take pictures which was different. There was only one other group when we were there so we pretty much had the place to our self which made it a little more creepy. Also got to take a souvenir when we left.

Very interesting museum looking at the different route methods from the medieval time period. On its own or would be cool just walking through the museum and looking at the different route devices, but there is an app you can download which tells stories of each p is ece, people who were attached to them, how they worked, etc, giving a human touch to what you are seeing and making it a real life object and story. If you listen to the app and each story, it'll take you a good hour plus to get through the museum, making it well worth your time and money spent. There are also some interactive items you can use to get a better feel of how the torture devices worked. Very cool experience, just wish you could interact, and place yourself in more of the devices

First off let me say Thanks Max great tour. It's so much history and different ways that people actually got tortured back in the day you think it's a real quick 2-minute tour but it's not. It's a nice exhibit. If you have boys they will definitely like it LOL

Book your tickets on Groupon to get a small discount! If you know me well, I love me some horror, spooky, haunted things and gore, so this was a very fun experience for me! Just know that this museum is more of a FYI recreation of torture throughout the medieval ages via replicas and props. It's more for a fun photo op and shock value for the macabre. I am familiar with a lot of these torture "methods" through lots of my gruesome revenge manga that I shamelessly indulge in and lots of them don't have any real historical backing to make their origins credible (like the "pear" and the bull), but a good rule of thumb to always keep in mind is that the more simple and less resource using a torture method is (less iron and black smithing needed, doesn't require surgical prowess or advanced anatomical destruction), the more likely that one of these methods is plausibly real (gouging out eyes, guillotine, cutting out tongues, etc). The internet connection is a bit spotty here but they do have their own Wi-Fi. They have a ghost hunting app based on "characters" that you can find throughout the museum, but it's more of a game than anything if you are interested in that. I have to say that my favorite aspect of the museum were the Fate Grand Order real history mentions (Nero, Iskandar, Jeanne, etc), the Norwegian Eagle splaying, and the manual guillotine. There are lots of phone photo opportunities like going into the stocks, holding the manual guillotine hammer, you can sit in the iron pot, weigh yourself to see if you are a witch, etc. Just know that some of the props ARE heavy and be careful not to injure yourself! Overall had a great time and definitely enjoyed this more than I would at some standard "selfie" museum they have around the area.

Review: New Kids on the Block triumph with the right old stuff at Mystic Lake Casino

T he Bee Gees and Santana, Tina Turner and Michael Jackson, they are among music's most remarkable second acts. But New Kids on the Block may have experienced the most surprising second act.

Why? Because it involves almost exclusively Day 1 fans who go back to 1988 or so.

Since the NKOTB reunited in 2008, the enduring Boston-launched boy band has steadily played full-house concerts while releasing the occasional new album. On Sunday night, Mystic Lake Casino Amphitheater in Prior Lake was packed, marking the group's eighth Twin Cities show in 16 years. And as they've done every other year, they put on a smartly packaged show that was colorful, high-energy, fast-paced and nostalgic yet refreshing.

The Magic Summer Tour featured all the right stuff — a blizzard of colors in lights, confetti, streamers and outfits, lots of movement more so than dynamic dancing, polished vocal harmonies, sterling lead vocals from Joe McIntyre and Jordan Knight, plenty of abs-showcasing shenanigans from Donnie Wahlberg, and a consistent fan-friendliness.

NKOTB know how to connect with Blockheads — mostly women between ages 40 and 55 — whether it was having a couple dozen women stand in the stage wings, inviting a handful of women to slow dance with them onstage, or running out into the crowd to perform on five separate small platforms. It's the same kind of accessibility that NKOTB offer on their annual cruises.

Wahlberg, 54 — whose popularity as a star of CBS' "Blue Bloods" since 2010 has been a factor in NKOTB continued popularity — served as the principal spokesman in concert. He explained that the quintet called its new album "Still Kids," their first in 11 years, because "That's what we all are inside."

The fivesome, ages 51 to 55, certainly carried on with a kid-like joyfulness and palpable camaraderie, which isn't always the case with a group that been around for nearly 40 years with the same members. And their fans relived their childhoods, dressing up in neon colors (per NKOTB's requests), holding handmade signs and wearing T-shirts professing love for individual New Kids. And, of course, the Blockheads danced, sang along and partied like it was 1989.

Although the 1¾-hour performance without a live band showcased material from "Still Kids" including the Bee Gees-evoking "Summer Love," heyday tunes dominated the set. "Favorite Girl" and "Cover Girl," arrived early, accompanied by confetti and streamers. The galvanizing "You Got It (The Right Stuff)," provided an early peak, as it echoed the Jackson 5 and the Time.

When the New Kids took off 36 years ago, they were dismissed as derivative of classic R&B vocals groups and hip-hop acts. Now history can look back at NKOTB for pioneering the resurgence of boy bands like 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys and reopening the door for white soul singers like Justin Timberlake and Robin Thicke.

Knight's performance of the soul ballad "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)," was the perfect marriage of the romantic falsetto of Russell Thompkins Jr. of the Stylistics and the fall-to-the-knee drama of James Brown. It was arguably the night's high point unless you preferred McIntyre's pretty tenor on "Please Don't Go Girl" or the hyped up "Hangin' Tough" mashed up with Queen's "We Will Rock You" as the New Kids romped around in glitzy Boston Celtics jerseys.

Wahlberg dedicated the medley to "our world champion Boston Celtics. Next year, it'll be the Celtics and T'Wolves in the NBA Finals."

Opening was someone who knows something about NBA championships, Paula Abdul, a former Laker Girls dancer and choreographer. Dancing was what Abdul was all about Sunday as she glided across tables, chairs and the stage accompanied by seven dancers.

After her opening "Straight Up," her hit from 1988, a stage hand brought out an oxygen tank with a mask and she inhaled a couple times. "You think I'm kidding? This is 62," she said. Then she continued to dance and lip sync for 30 minutes, requiring the oxygen only one more time.

DJ Jazzy Jeff kicked off the concert by spinning uber-popular tracks like "Uptown Funk" and "Don't Stop Believin,'" which could have been the theme song for the night.
