For Indians, any time of the year is a good time to visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Reachable from New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport in under 4 hours, or from the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in just over this time, the UAE is accessible by air from most major Indian cities in an average of 4 hours.

Dubai, a hop-over destination

Indians keep visiting this booming, safe and secure Gulf country to enjoy its shopping, recreation and adventure potential, and to meet up with family and friends, who oblige them with whirlwind tours through this mini paradise. For Indians, the UAE, and in particular Dubai, has become their home away from home, a hop-over destination for extended weekends and national holidays.

The region’s wide range of attractions cater to the tastes of all varieties of holiday-makers. From the skyscrapers lining Sheikh Zayed Road, the world-class mega malls and multi-million-dollar offshore developments, to the Old World souks, beaches and adrenaline-charged desert safaris, Dubai has it all.

Everything you need to know about getting a tourist visa for Dubai

It’s fairly easy….

Thinking of visiting Dubai, but you’re not sure how to get a tourist visa? Perhaps you already live in this gorgeous city and want to share it with family and friends, but aren’t sure how to go about securing the ever-important visa. For some it’s as easy as showing up at the airport, for others, there is a process that needs to be followed.

Here is everything you need to know about getting a tourist visa for Dubai.

No visa required

Citizens of the GCC areas do not require any sort of visa to enter Dubai. You simply need to provide your passport or your national ID at the point of entry and you will be granted entrance.

Visa on arrival

If you fall into this category, you’re in luck because there are certain countries that can simply arrive at Dubai International Airport and receive a tourist visa, on arrival.

There are a total of 50 countries that receive visas on arrival. Some include The United Kingdom (UK), The United States of America (USA), and countries that are part of the EU. For some countries you will be eligible for a 30-day visa, and for others a 90-day visa, with the possibility of extension.

Indian citizens who are holders of tourist visas from the USA, green cards, or have a residence visa in the UK or EU will also receive a visa on arrival, for 14 days, provided that the green card and residence visas have been valid for more than six months.

If you are a Mexican passport holder, you will be granted a multiple-entry visa on arrival. Your visa is valid for up to 180 days and is valid for six months from the date that the visa has been issued.

The list of countries that are able to attain a tourist visa on arrival in Dubai or the UAE may change from time to time and so you can easily see if you are eligible for a tourist visa on arrival by following the steps here .

Pre-arranged visa

When you do not fall under the above categories that means you need to apply for a tourist visa before you enter Dubai. This can be done in a number of ways.

You can easily apply directly through certain airlines including FlyDubai and Emirates . Alternatively, you can organise a tourist visa through licensed travel agents, tour operators and the hotel you will be staying at.

It is important to note that you cannot apply for a tourist visa through the UAE Embassy, one of the organisers mentioned above will apply for your visa on your behalf through the visa-issuing authorities here in Dubai.

Most of the expats residing in the UAE travel frequently due to business and personal reasons, and do not stay in the country all throughout the year. Sometimes, these trips would last longer than six months, thereby affecting the validity of their residence visa.

If a UAE resident has stayed outside the Emirates for more than six months or 180 days, his/her residence visa will be automatically cancelled.

Here's how you can apply for a new entry permit to enter the UAE again:

GDRFA website

If you're a Dubai resident who has stayed outside the UAE for more than six months, you will not be able to apply for a new entry permit on your own. You will need to ask your sponsor to apply for your entry permit.

Your sponsor has to apply through the following:

  • Register in the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDFRA) website using your email address
  • Log in through username.
  • Click 'Services'.
  • Click 'Issuance of a Residency Visa'.
  • Click 'Visa Issuance for Foreigners linked with Job Contract'.

Your sponsor can also apply for a new entry permit through the Customer happiness centre:

  • Get a ticket using the queue system
  • Submit the application fulfilling all conditions and documents to the customer service representative.
  • Pay service fees (if required).

Requirements

  • The application must be submitted from outside the country.
  • You can apply for this request after 180 days of staying outside the country.
  • You need to provide a valid reason to justify being outside the country for more than 180 days.
  • A fine of Dh100 will be charged for every 30 days or less that you spent outside the country. However, if you're a Dubai resident that has stayed outside the country for more than 180 days, you will only have to start paying for the days after your 180-day grace period is over.
  • The remaining period of your residence visa must be more than 30 days upon submitting the application.
  • If you're sponsored by an establishment, your application can be submitted either by you or by the establishment.
  • Fine fees can only be refunded if your application is rejected.
  • When your application is approved, you must enter the country within 30 days starting from the approval date.

Application fee

The fee for the new permit entry application is Dh200 and can go up to Dh420 if the permit was applied through customer happiness centres such as Amer. It is worth noting that the total amount of the fee may vary depending on your circumstances.

Fine exemption

If you have already exceeded 180 days outside the UAE, but the status of your residency is still showing as 'Active' and it has at least 30 days of validity, you will be exempted from paying the fines.

Check your residency status

While you're travelling, be it for business or pleasure, it is possible that checking the status of your residence visa may slip your mind. It's a good thing you can do it from the convenience of your phone or laptop.

You can check the status of your residency by visiting the ICP website and doing the following:

  • Click 'Select the Type' and choose 'Residency'.
  • Hit 'File Type' and choose 'Emirates ID Number'.
  • Fill in your Emirates ID number, nationality, and date of birth.
  • Click 'Search'.

  • Download the "UAEICP" mobile app.
  • Register with a working email if you still don't have an account.
  • Sign in with UAE Pass.
  • Once you're in the app, select the "Sponsored" option from the main page of the app, where you sill see if your visa is still active or not.

Once you're done with the process, you can expect a result of your request for a new entry permit in 48 hours or less.

How to get a Visa Medical Report in the UAE?

How to get a Visa Medical Report in the UAE?

Navigating the visa application process in the UAE requires numerous crucial procedures, one of which is obtaining a Visa Medical Report. This report is required for all expats asking for a residency visa to ensure public health safety. Here's an in-depth guide to help you understand and complete the process smoothly:

Step 1: Schedule an appointment

The first step in getting a Visa Medical Report is to make an appointment with a government-approved medical clinic. This can be completed online via the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) website or other emirate-specific health authority portals. To avoid complications with your application, choose a center that is recognized by the UAE government.

Step 2: Gather the Required Documents

Make sure you have all of the essential documentation before your consultation. These usually include:

  • Original passport: Required for identification verification.
  • A copy of passport and visa:  for record-keeping and verification purposes.
  • Recent passport-sized photos: Typically, two are necessary. Ensure that they follow the particular dimensions and rules set by the health authority.

Step 3: Visit the Medical Center

On the day of your visit, arrive at the medical center promptly. You will have many tests to determine that you are free of communicable infections. These tests frequently include:

  • Blood tests: Monitoring for infectious disorders like HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C.
  • Chest X-ray: Used to detect tuberculosis (TB).

Step 4: Go through the medical examination

Follow all instructions from the medical staff. The tests are generally simple and non-invasive. The medical center's experts will walk you through each stage, ensuring you understand the process and what to expect.

Step 5: Collect the report

After finishing the medical tests, the medical center will notify you of the day your report will be available. The processing time can vary, but it usually takes a few days. You must return to the medical center to pick up your report, though some centers may provide electronic delivery directly to the immigration department.

Step 6: Submit the medical report

Once you've obtained your medical report, send it to the appropriate immigration office as part of your resident visa application. This is an important step because it certifies your health status and eligibility for residency in the UAE.

Additional considerations

  • Fees: The cost of the medical examination varies by emirate and kind of visa. It is best to examine the specific fees related to your location.
  • Validity: A Visa Medical Report is normally valid for three months. To avoid having to re-test, make sure you complete your visa application within this time frame.
  • Approved centers: Always use government-approved medical facilities to ensure that your report is accepted. A list of approved centers is often published on the health authority's website.

Obtaining a Visa Medical Report is a required step in the UAE visa application process, which is intended to protect public health and maintain the safety of all inhabitants. Following the methods given in this article will allow you to satisfy this requirement easily and with the least effort. Always consult your emirate's official health authority website for the most up-to-date and accurate information. This complete strategy will allow you to confidently navigate the procedure, ensuring that you meet all of the health requirements for your UAE residence visa.
