The Euromast is offering breathtaking views of the city and its surroundings. With 185 metres the Euromast is still the tallest tower of Rotterdam and the Netherlands open to the public.

Spectacular views from the Euromast

With a super fast elevator the visitor is reaching the ‘Kraaiennest’ (crow’s nest) in no time. Above you’ll find a lookout platform and a panoramic restaurant. After that the elevator, this time slowly turning, will bring you at the top to the Euroscoop. Above the views are very spectacular: the skyline, the harbours and even The Hague and the North Sea can be seen with some luck.

Origin Euromast

The Euromast was constructed in 1960 by Huig Maaskant, one of the prominent Rotterdam reconstruction architects. It was built for the agricultural and horticulture fair that was held in 1960. In 1970 the largest crane(145 metre) in the world put a space tower on top of the platform making it again the largest building of Rotterdam.

Al het moois wat Rotterdam te bieden heeft, is eigenlijk in één moment te vangen. Vanaf de honderd-vijf-en-tachtig meter hoge Euromast heb je namelijk een waanzinnig mooi uitzicht over de stad en alles wat het te bieden heeft. De Euromast, welke in het Scheepvaartkwartier staat, werd op 25 maart 1960 op feestelijke wijze geopend. Op die dag werd ook de bloemen- en tuinbouwtentoonstelling ‘Floriade; gehouden. Architecten Maaskant en van Eesteren zijn verantwoordelijk voor het ontwerp van de Euromast. Al meteen vanaf de eerste dag heeft deze uitkijktoren vele bezoekers mogen ontvangen. Bij het uitwijkplatform is ook een restaurant gevestigd. Echte ‘thrillseekers’ kunnen overwegen om te abseilen van de Euromast. Een andere bijzondere manier om de Euromast te beleven is door er te slapen. Je kunt boven in de Euromast overnachten.

De Euromast bezoeken

De Euromast is vooral bedoeld als attractie. Je kunt de Euromast dus bezoeken. Tijdens een bezoek aan de Euromast ga je eerst met de lift naar boven, waar je uitstapt bij het restaurant at zich op bijna honderd meter hoogte bevindt. Van hieraf heb je al een prachtig uitzicht over Rotterdam en de Rotterdamse haven, Maar je kunt nog hoger gaan. Daarvoor stap je over in de Euroscoop. Dit is de roterende glazen lift. In ongeveer zeven minuten tijd ga je naar boven terwijl langzaam ronddraait. Hierdoor krijgt iedereen een 360 graden uitzicht op Rotterdam.

Vlak bij de Euromast, ten zuiden van de Westzeedijk, ligt het Park. Dit overwegend groene deel van de stad Rotterdam wordt veelvuldig gebruikt voor het organiseren van allerlei festivals. Ooit werd een deel van het Park in Engelse landschapsstijl aangelegd, naar een idee van landschapsarchitect en stedenbouwkundige Jan David Zocher jr. en diens zoon Louis Paul. Het Amsterdamse Vondelpark werd ook door hem ontworpen.

Het Park bij de Euromast in Rotterdam heeft zijn huidige omvang verkregen na de toevoeging van landgoed ‘De Heuvel’. Sindsdien kun je er heerlijke wandelingen maken langs fraaie waterpartijen, monumentale bomen, verschillende bruggetjes, een oude zeemanskerk en de uitkijkheuvel vanwaar je uitzicht hebt over de Nieuwe Maas.

In de provincie Zuid-Holland ligt de stad Rotterdam . De naam Rotterdam is afgeleid van veenrivier de Rotte. Daarnaast ligt de stad ook nog eens aan de Maas. Het heeft ertoe geleid dat Rotterdam ooit de grootste haven ter wereld was en een grote speler voor wat betreft het vervoeren van goederen over water. Inmiddels is er veel veranderd, maar in de havenindustrie wordt nog altijd veel handel gedreven. Veel bezoekers van de stad Rotterdam komen er om een dagje te shoppen of lekker uit eten te gaan. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog is Rotterdam vaak getroffen door bombardementen. Om die reden zijn er, in tegenstelling tot Amsterdam, veel moderne gebouwen te vinden. De afwisselende architectuur trekt in Rotterdam dan ook veel architectuurliefhebbers aan. Zo mag De Markthal steevast op veel bekijks rekenen. Bezoekers van de bruisende stad Rotterdam kunnen zich te goed doen aan het bezoeken van boeiende musea, een wedstrijd bij Feyenoord, Diergaarde Blijdorp, stoomschip SS Rotterdam, slenteren door de Witte de Withstraat of een boottocht door het havengebied.

Designed by HA Maaskant as a landmark and built between 1958 and 1960, the 185m-high Euromast offers unparalleled 360-degree views of Rotterdam from its 100m-high observation deck, or from its rotating glass Euroscoop elevator, which goes right to the top of the mast.

It's also possible to enjoy a drink or meal at the cocktail bar/brasserie underneath the observation deck, or overnight in two hotel suites on the observation deck (including breakfast from €385). Thrill seekers can sign up for weekend abseiling and ziplining up and down the tower (€55 each, May to September, bookings essential).

The Euromast in Rotterdam is the highest observation tower in the Netherlands. With a height of 185 meters, the Euromast is the highest observation tower in the Netherlands that is accessible to visitors. The retro-futuristic design makes this tower an iconic part of the Rotterdam skyline. The Euromast was built for the Floriade of 1960 and the view from the ‘crow’s nest’ is unbeatable. On a clear day you can see more than 30km from this observation platform!

The observation deck of the Euromast is 112 meters high. From here you have a great view of the city. If you want to go all the way to the top of the Euromast, take the Euroscoop. This rotating lift takes you up to 180 meters into the air and meanwhile tells more about the view. The Euroscoop is included with your Euromast entrance ticket.

Do you want to enjoy a snack and a drink? Even then you can go to the Euromast. There are two restaurants. One on the ground floor and one near the observation deck at a height of 96 meters.

To enjoy the view of the Euromast you have to buy an entrance ticket online. You select the day and the desired time at which you want to enter the Euromast (the time slot). The descent takes about 15 minutes per person, two people descend at the same time, there is 1 instructor in the middle for guidance.

Unique is the possibility to spend the night on the Euromast. There are two hotel suites at a height of 100 meters. These suites are equipped with every luxury and of course have a great view. There is a hotel suite with a view of the city and a suite with a view of the harbor. Each suite has its own balcony from which you can enjoy the view in peace. An overnight stay on the Euromast costs approximately € 400.00 per night.

Amsterdam isn’t the only city in the Netherlands with beautiful buildings and fun places to visit. As the name suggests, the Euromast design draws its inspiration from the mast of a ship. It is, therefore, a huge pole, with a sort of crow’s nest at the top. At a height of 185 meters, the building is currently the tallest building in the Netherlands. Although, it has not always been the case. After the original construction, which ended in 1960, it was only 101 meters high. Due to the construction of much higher buildings all over the world, an extra space tower was added later on top of the crow’s nest because the Euromast didn’t want to fall behind. The reason for the development of the Euromast was the organization of the Floriade. The Floriade is an international exhibition and garden festival held every year in the Netherlands.

There’ so much to the Euromast than just a tower. It is the ideal way to view the skyline of Rotterdam. It is often not necessary to erect tall buildings for the viewing of city skylines, but in Rotterdam , this is certainly not a superfluous luxury. From there they have a 360 degrees view of Rotterdam and the surrounding area. The Euromast Green Key certified – has two exclusives, modernly furnished suites: Heaven & Stars. These are located above the brasserie, located on the viewing platforms at more than a hundred meters. The largest suite Heaven is on the south side and has a view of the world port of Rotterdam. The smaller suite Stars is located on the north side and offers a view of the Rotterdam skyline. Both have free WiFi.

The Euromast was built in 1960 during the Floriade. It was designed by Huig Maaskant and J.P. van Eesteren and was initially 100 meters high. In 1970 the tower was expanded with a Space Tower, to a height of no less than 185 meters. The Euromast is, therefore, the highest observation tower in the Netherlands. The tower was opened on 25 March 1960 by Princess Beatrix. In 1970 the tower was increased by 85 meters by the Space Tower on top of the tower. In 2004, the hotel suites were added to the top of the Euromast. The Euromast has been a national monument since 2010.

Euromast Opening Hours

The Euromast is open every day. April to September: open from 9:30 a.m. October to March: open from 10 a.m.Platforms: until 10 p.m. Euroscope: until 9:45 pm Brasserie: until 11 p.m. Kitchen: until 10:15 p.m.

Note: Please note that some parts of the Euromast Brasserie may be closed or rented exclusively. Therefore always consult the website (or reception) in advance. Unfortunately, it is not possible for guests with a wheelchair or walking difficulties to reach the 185-meter point. The platform at 100 meters height is accessible by a lift and therefore accessible. As it is not possible to reach the top of the Euromast (due to the stairs) has an adjusted rate of € 8.50 for the guests.

Public Transport

The Euromast is located in the Scheepvaartkwartier and can be reached with tram 8 from Rotterdam Central Station, but also with the Watertaxi. Paid parking is available for cars, buses can park for free in the designated parking places. The following trams will take you to the tower:

From Amsterdam Central Station: Train to Rotterdam Central Station. When you arrive at Rotterdam Central station, take tram 8 and stop at the Euromast.

From Amsterdam Schiphol Airport: Train from platform 5 – 6 going to Rotterdam Central Station. From there, take tram 8 to the Euromast.

From Rotterdam Central Station by Metro

From Rotterdam Central Station: From Rotterdam Central station visitors travel via line E to Slinge. Transfer at Beurs station to lines A, B (Schiedam Centrum) or C (De Akkers) until you arrive at Coolhaven station. Are you traveling from Blaak station? Then take the direct line A, B (Schiedam Centrum) or C (De Akkers) to Coolhaven station.

By Car From Utrecht “Ring Rotterdam Oost”, direction Dordrecht/Breda. Take the Centrum (exit 25) exit. Follow the signs with Euromast.

From The Hague/Hoek van Holland Take the Overschie/Centrum exit (exit 13). Follow the signs with Euromast/Maastunnel.

From Dordrecht Direction Feyenoord/Center/Kralingen. Take the Centrum (exit 25) exit. Follow the signs with Euromast.

Is filming and the taking of pictures allowed in the Euromast?

Recording teams can only make recordings on the Euromast with prior permission from the marketing & communication department. Filming and photographing is only permitted from the panorama platforms. For all other locations, explicit written permission applies and only under the supervision of an authorized employee. The film agreement must be submitted here upon arrival at the Euromast.

Is the Euromast suitable for children?

Yes, it is and children under 18 can only be brought under adult supervision.

Are visitors allowed to bring food into the Euromast?

No, guests aren’t allowed to bring food into the Euromast.

Please note: Physical or verbal abuse behaviour towards other visitors and/or employees of the Euromast is not acceptable. Guests who commit such behaviour are immediately removed from the Euromast.
