Call Me By Your Name Locations in Italy: FULL List + Map!

Call Me By Your Name (2017)

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read the disclaimer here .

Call Me By Your Name  makes “somewhere in Northern Italy” look like a utopian fantasy land. Where you own a villa in the countryside, enjoy peaches from your orchard and spend your days swimming in rivers and cycling through piazzas. Oh, and you are free to love and be loved by whomever you choose without shame or judgement. Personally, I’d drop reality and flee to the Call Me By Your Name locations in a heartbeat if I could.

Sadly, it’s just a movie adapted from a wonderful book. Call Me By Your Name  (2017) stars Timothée Chalamet as Elio, a precocious 17-year-old who spends summers with his parents at their villa in Northern Italy.

Armie Hammer is Oliver, his father’s 24-year-old grad student intern and the object of Elio’s affection. Over one summer in the 1980s, they learn what it means to desire someone and lose them and feel heartbreak in the process.

No word of a lie,  Call Me By Your Name  is one of my top four movies of all time. I  adore  this film. In part, because of the incredible and authentic Call Me By Your Name  filming locations around the city of Crema in the Lombardy region of Italy.

Are you ready to join the Perlmans at their idyllic Italian abode and wherever else they roam? After you, my friend!

Where Was Call Me By Your Name Filmed?

Call Me By Your Name Filming Locations in Italy

1. palazzo albergoni, moscazzano.

All anyone cares about is where the house from Call Me By Your Name is! Well, the very first filming location is the Call Me By Your Name  house. It is the main setting for the entire movie and where most of the scenes unfold.

As the movie opens, Elio is preparing to vacate his bedroom so Oliver can take it over while the young Marzia giggles on his bed. But so many other vital scenes happen at the  Call Me By Your Name  house location, which is Palazzo Albergoni in Moscazzano .

They all eat breakfast and dinner at the table outside, the orchard where the apricots grow is out there too. And the piano where Elio must perform for guests sits in the living room while his father and Oliver work tirelessly in the organised mess that is Samuel Perlman’s office. Oh, and the attic where Elio “listens to the radio” is here, too.

The house from  Call Me By Your Name  is grand (it’s a  palazzo  for crying out loud and dates back to the 16th century) but worn. Director Luca Guadagnino wanted it to look like Annella Perlman inherited the villa from a distant relative but they hadn’t the funds to revert the decor to its former glory.

It’s  such  a shame that this villa is a private residence and, due to the high walls and gate, you simply cannot get a good look. I believe the owners put the house on the market shortly after the film’s release so they no doubt made a pretty penny from that sale.

2. Via Montodine & Via Roma, Moscazzano

Oliver wants to open a bank account (in the book, they are more explicit about the fact he’s an avid poker player) so Elio offers to accompany him into Crema and lends him a bicycle. We see them ride down Via Montodine  which is mere metres away from the front entrance of the Perlman’s villa and turn right onto  Via Roma .

3. Via Cremosano, Campagnola Cremasca

Next, there’s a jump cut and the lads are now cycling north of Crema  instead of south down  Via Cremosano . It looks like a cycling path in the middle of the open countryside and it pretty much is. If I’m right, they are cycling towards the western end of the road travelling east.

Later in the film, after Elio admits his feelings for Oliver in  Pandino , they cycle on this road again. They stop next to a group of road signs over a small stream, and I’ve pinned the exact location where they stop on the map at the top of this blog post.

4. Via Patrini & Via Federico Pesadori, Crema

They’ve arrived in Crema ! This is one of the more prolific Call Me By Your Name filming locations aside from the villa. We see them cycling around the corner from Via Patrini  and turn left onto  Via Federico Pesadori .

5. Piazza del Duomo, Crema

Oliver asks, “what does one do around here?” while he and Elio are sat at one of the tables outside a café. He’s been in Italy for one day and he’s already bored?! They sit with the Arco del Torrazzo  looming on their left and the  Duomo  on their right, which makes sense because they are located in  Piazza del Duomo   in  Crema .

I’m not sure if it is still there, but identical table and chairs were set up in this piazza so you could take a photo as Oliver and Elio did in this scene. Yes, really!

Duomo in Crema, Italy

6. Piazza Gambazocchi, Moscazzano

After Samuel Perlman (Michael Stuhlbarg) gives Oliver the nerdiest entomology test regarding the history of the word “apricot”, Elio and Oliver walk down a street near the villa. They are walking down Via Roma  which becomes  Piazza Gambazocchi   towards Casa Parrocchiale di Moscazzano with pretty pink and yellow buildings on their left.

Oliver walks into a bar to the right of the fur coat shop called  P ellicceria Fratelli Spoldi  and you can even see the shop’s sign in the background. If there was a bar there, I don’t think there is anymore. It looks like an empty building.

Towards the end of the film, Annella parks up in front of the church to no doubt get cigarettes from this “bar” that 100% looks fake. This is the scene where Elio makes up with Marzia.

7. Circolo Arci San Bernardino, Via XI Febbraio, 14, Crema

The next few scenes all take place at the villa, the main Call Me By Your Name  filming location. They eat, swim, transcribe music, play volleyball, and whatever else kids got up to in those days.

So, the next new location is the disco where “Love My Way” by the Psychedelic Furs plays while Elio busts some moves. The dance floor is around the back of  Circolo Arci San Bernardino , an arts centre in Crema .

8. Laghetto dei Riflessi, Ricengo

After the dance, Elio and Marzia head for a midnight dip in a small lake called  Laghetto dei Riflessi  in  Ricengo . Elio also goes back to this same spot after they return from Sirmione, but he appears to have missed Marzia.

Later in the film after Elio and Oliver kiss and Elio has his nosebleed, Elio swims at this lake with friends as Oliver rushes into town to avoid Chiara. And even  later  in the film after Elio meets up with Marzia in Crema, they return to the grass next to this lake and finally have sex.

Elio and Oliver head to this lake shortly after  they  have sex. Is this lake the Italian equivalent of a Lover’s Lane?!

9. Archaeological site of Grotte di Catullo, Piazzale Orti Manara, 4, Sirmione

Samuel, Oliver, and Elio leave the villa after one of Samuel’s colleagues alerts him to a statue they have just found chilling at the bottom of Lake Garda . When they arrive, they are at the  Archaeological site of Grotte di Catullo   in  Sirmione , a town on Lake Garda. The ruins are from a huge Roman villa, and Elio walks next to an old wall of Roman columns.

10. Jamaica Beach, Sirmione

Samuel, his colleague Dr Roseburg, Oliver and Elio head down to the shoreline to see the piece of antiquity they discovered. It is  Jamaica Beach on the tippy top of Sirmione. It is rather small so you should have no problems finding the exact Call Me By Your Name  shooting location.

11. Monumento ai Caduti, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III, 27, Pandino

They hang out at the house for a while before venturing somewhere new on their bike rides. It is during those scenes where Annella translates a book the family is reading and utters one of the most iconic quotes in the film.

Is it better to speak or die? – Tale X from The Heptameron

The lads ride into a town that people often refer to as the  Call Me By Your Name  village. It is  Pandino , a small town northwest of Crema. They ride down Via Castello , past  Pandino Castle .

Oliver goes into  Bar Castello  for cigarettes and then he admires the  Monumento ai Caduti  in the centre of the piazza, which is in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III . In the film, the monument is for the people who died in the Battle of Piave but I don’t think that is what the monument commemorates in real life.

This is where Elio admits to Oliver how he feels. Oliver reacts by picking up copies of his book manuscript at 5 Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III .

Later in the film, there is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it insight into Elio’s dreams when he is asleep at the hotel in Bergamo. These are the shots that have a thermal imaging look about them. He imagines him and Oliver actually standing  on  the monument and jumping off it.

12. Via Bosco, Corte Palasio, Lodi

Elio and Oliver stop at the corner of  SP124  and  Via Bosco in the small town of  Corte Palasio.  Elio asks Oliver if he is thirsty, and he approaches a woman sat outside a huge house with an arched doorway and trees outside. They cycle off the way they came, behind the yellow house.

13. Via Cascina Volpino, Capralba

They continue cycling down a gravel track just north of Via Capralba  which does not look like it is made for cars, just bikes and walking. The lads go back down this road when they leave, too.

14. Fontanile Quarantina, Via Cascina Volpino, Capralba

Elio takes Oliver to  Fontanile Quarantina Nature Reserve   in Capralba which is just towards the end of the dirt track. There, the boys find a secluded small lake surrounded by trees.

Elio calls this his secret spot, and it is a pretty special  Call Me By Your Name  place because it is here where Elio and Oliver share their first kiss. The first “winter” establishing shot is at this location, too.

15. Strada dei Boschi, Moscazzano

Leaving the nature reserve, they cycle down  Strada dei Boschi in Moscazzano on their way back to the villa. They pass an old farm building, which is located exactly where I’ve pinned it on the map at the top of this blog post.

16. Via XX Settembre & Via Marazzi, Crema

Elio is feeling neglected by Oliver, so he falls back into Marzia’s arms. We have another  Call Me By Your Name  Crema location, as he agrees to meet her in the archway that separates  Piazza del Duomo  and  Via XX Settembre  in  Crema . They turn left down  Via Marazzi which is a dark, covered alley.

Arco del Torrazzo in Crema, Italy

17. Piazza Premoli, Crema

Marzia and Elio end up in  Piazza Premoli  in  Crema , and the sun has now set so we can assume that Marzia has been awkwardly chatting and filling silences for quite a while. They stop in the archway of Palazzo Premoli   in this piazza.

18. La Provincia, Piazza del Duomo, 14, Crema

This is one of the last  Call Me By Your Name  locations in Crema . Elio follows Oliver to the town on his bike and spots him leaving La Provincia newsagent, though it is now closed. They turn left and walk down the tiny sidestreet next to this shop. The lads stop in front of an arched doorway.

19. Piazza XXV Aprile, Montodine

Oliver must go back to America, but first, he needs to visit the University in Bergamo and Elio is joining him. The Prof and Mrs Perlman say goodbye to the boys at their bus stop in Piazza XXV Aprile  in  Montodine . There is actually a bus stop here in real life.

20. Rifugio Antonio Curò, Valbondione

The first  Call Me By Your Name  filming location we see on their trip is the establishing shot of the shaky camera travelling along the Rifugio Antonio Curò  hiking route as if from the point of view of a cyclist. Sufjan Stevens’s song ‘Mystery of Love’ plays over this shot.

21. Cascate del Serio, Valbondione

The boys hike out to  Cascate del Serio in Valbondione , the tallest waterfall in Italy and one of the tallest in Europe. You can reach it by following hiking trails.

Cascate del Serio in Italy Call Me By Your Name Location

22. Agnello D’Oro Hotel, Via Gombito, 22, Bergamo

After a day of hiking, Oliver and Elio check into their hotel room in  Bergamo , which is the Agnello D’Oro  hotel. Sadly, this hotel is now permanently closed.

23. Piazza Rosate & Via Rosate, Bergamo

Later that night, Oliver and Elio sing and dance in the street and appear to be a bit tipsy. Oliver puts on a show for Elio in a back alley and they weirdly roll down a wall, which is on the corner of Piazza Rosate  and  Via Rosate .

24. Via Simone Mayr, Bergamo

Oliver hears an Italian couple blasting ‘Love My Way’ from their car radio in a car park on  Via Simone Mayr  and just has to dance with the girl. They dance in front of the lion statue-guarded back door of the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore in  Bergamo .

Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo, Italy Call Me By Your Name Location

25. Piazza Duomo, Bergamo

Elio is 17-years-old and probably less experienced at binge drinking than Oliver, so he throws up. Oliver carries him down the stairs on Passeggiiata Cà Longa  and onto  Piazza Duomo .

This is where, yup, you guessed it, the Duomo of Bergamo is. They kiss here too which is a bit gross considering Elio  literally  just threw up.

26. Pizzighettone Station, Pizzighettone

Oliver gets on a train at  Pizzighettone Station  and he has to say goodbye to Elio. It’s heartbreaking. Elio asks his mum to come and pick him up. He tells her he is at Clusone station, but in reality, it isn’t.

27. Via Caprotti, Moscazzano

Elio is beside himself on the drive back from Clusone, and his mother attempts to comfort him as she drives and smokes, too. They are driving along Via Caprotti  in  Ripalta . In the film, they are surrounded by metres-tall cornfields but even if you cannot see the corn, the wooden telephone wires are unmistakable.

Hi Rebecca,

How did you go around the filming locations?

visit call me by your name locations

Hey Darwin! I visited Sirmione on a day trip from Verona and visited Bergamo on a day trip from Milan. For all of the other locations, I took the train from Milan to Crema and took this amazing private tour: https://eliooliverlovetour.com/

I’ve been meaning to update the guide with this information but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Happy planning! 😀

Hi Rebecca, Thank you for your elaborate description of the locations of this beautiful movie! In a couple of days I will visit some of these places at last (after a few years of wanting to do so). And thanks to your page, I am able to make the best selection for the limited time I am in that region. So thank you very much 🙂

You’re so welcome, Bianca! I just visited way more of the locations only a few months ago so I know you’re in for a treat 😀

thank you so so much for this amazing article- new fan!

Thanks so much for your comment, Maya! I have to say, this is one of my favourite guides – not only is it one of my favourite films but it’s not often I manage to locate practically every location haha 😀

Rebecca, what you have put together is amazing! CMBYN is one of my all-time favorite movies, too, and I’ve often wondered about all those magical locations. Your blog has brought this all back to me and I am very grateful. As a gay man this film resonates very strongly for me. The locations, clothing, and activities remind me of an idealized, youthful version of myself. Elio’s parents were amazing!

I was really hoping for a sequel to this movie, which was planned but is unlikely to happen. The acting and direction was phenomenal. Thanks again for doing this homework!

Thank you so, so much for your lovely comment, Ray! It’s so nice to hear your thoughts on the film, I feel the same though I’m an almost 30-year-old bisexual woman. It still speaks to me very strongly. It is such a shame about the sequel. If I were in charge, I’d just make a spin-off about Samuel Perlman because Michael Stuhlbarg was just phenomenal in that role!

Aciman published a sequel to CMBYN in 2019 called “Find Me” which was received with mixed reviews. I have not read it. A big part of it, however, does center on Sami’s life after CMBYN, but with a new woman. It also has parts related to Elio and Oliver.

Yes, I know, I have actually read the book (both of the books)! It is one of my favourite films after all 😀

I’m taking my daughter to Italy in July. She’s a huge fan of the movie and I managed to find flights to Milan for a great price. I was then struggling for a location that’s in-between that may give us some sights and some relaxation. We’re only there four nights so I needed help! This blog has been a god send! If you have a rough idea for me midway between a few nice places hit me up! And thanks again great skills

Thanks so much for your comment, Beki! I’m so glad you found my post useful – I’m going myself to a few of the locations I haven’t visited yet in April on a day trip from Milan so I hope you have a fantastic time too!

They and us have all moved on, but I’m drawn back to the film (DVD) constantly and with every repeated showing, I find something different or that I missed. It is a love story between two men. But love is universal so why should it matter? It is a wonderful film in so many ways, and the tears still come at the fireplace scene. If I could ask two questions of them. What happened to their bikes, and to ‘billowy’, Oliver’s blue shirt. I fell in love with Italy 70 years ago when I took a 3 months, vacation after graduating as an engineer. And whenever I go back, I experience the same emotional feelings as the country and it’s people embrace me. I wonder if Timothee, Armie, ever returned just to re-visit the place in which a masterpiece was filmed. They have said it was an experience they will never forget. Which expresses everything about this very special and beautiful film, marred only by the academy’s dismal failure to recognize Michael Stulbarg as Elio’s Father. Sadly this failure cannot be reversed. But the mesmerizing scene in which he realizes that his son (who is possibly gay) had fallen in love with Oliver, is testament to the actor, and will continue to capture everyone’s heart who watches it. They and we, continue to age but the story and film are ageless and timeless……….

Thanks so much for the comment, Jonathan! It’s one of my all-time favourite films and it’s just so beautiful, both the story and the place.

Thanks for putting so much work and love into your site! I discovered your place only now and am stunned at your articulate posts. And the maps!! You did a great job! Thanks to your map, I realized that we’ve been going for walks repeatedly on two streets of the film. We stayed in Moscazzano and took the dog for walks either on Via Caprotti or to the South in direction of Via dei Boschi. Whenever we went to Crema from Moscazzano, we took the tiny Via Caprotti through the meadows instead of the official street. And I ALWAYS thought and said “but this looks like when they’re biking or when his mom picks him up with the car”, but we said this so many times over during our CMBYN – tour. Everything around Crema looks picturesque and like out of the movie. But my feelings were right! And the soil and the experience seem even more holy thanks to you! Wow! Thanks so much! Do you think the still of the two boys leaning on each other but looking apart which served as the poster in some countries was taken on Via Caprotti also? Because I think so…

Thank you so much for your comment, Martina! I’m particularly proud of this guide because, not only is it one of my favourite films of all time, but I think I’ve pretty much nailed every location. I’m so jealous that you’ve actually been to those locations because I haven’t managed to yet. You know, I’m not sure which film poster you’re talking about because the only one I know is of them leaning on each other against a bright blue background and there isn’t anything else in the frame? Which could be anywhere, of course! I don’t know of a poster with cornfields…

You nailed it indeed! I hope for you that you can visit those places some day. It’s as lovely as in the movie. I guess we mean the same pic with the blue background, taken by Alessio Bolzoni. An unknown one surfaced only recently, and in this you see the corn very clearly. It must be Via Caprotti! I try to add a link https://www.reddit.com/r/callmebyyourname/comments/v2qj5h/newly_released_photograph_a_few_more_from/ If the link doesn’t work, try the photographer’s name. If you are interested that ardently at all (sorry! 🙂). I’m just so delighted by your map!

Call Me by Your Name filming location: Villa Albergoni, Moscazzano, Lombardy, Italy

  • Locations |
  • Luca Guadagnino
  • Timothée Chalamet,
  • Armie Hammer,
  • Michael Stuhlbarg,
  • Amira Casar,
  • Esther Garrel,
  • Vanda Capriolo

Discover where Call Me By Your Name (2017) was filmed around Northern Italy in Crema, Moscazzano and Bergamo in Lombardy .

Luca Guadagnino ’s sun-drenched coming-of-age romance saw veteran film-maker James Ivory (of the Merchant - Ivory directorial team responsible for so many quintessentially British films including A Room With A View , Howards End and The Remains Of The Day ) finally win an Oscar, for his adaptation of André Aciman ’s novel.

It’s set in 1983 in the far north of Italy , and filmed around Crema , Moscazzano and Bergamo in Lombardy .

The main setting is the estate of the Perlman family. It looks mouth-wateringly inviting, but this time I’m afraid I’m not able to say: “and you can stay here…”. The villa is not a hotel or a guest-house but a private home and it’s surrounded by high walls.

It’s the Villa Albergoni, 3, Via Montodine , just south of Via Roma, in Moscazzano , a village about five miles south of Crema. The villa was put up for sale in 2018 for an asking price of €1.7 million. There’s little to see from the street, apart from the entrance, but if you missed the chance to buy it, you can comfort yourself knowing that it wasn’t such a bargain – there are really no peach trees on the estate and that plunge pool was added just for the film.

In fact, the villa was specially decorated for the film by Violante Visconti di Modrone , a relative of Luchino Visconti , coincidentally director of Death In Venice , a ravishingly beautiful film of homoerotic longings from a very different era.

When Perlman Sr ( Michael Stuhlbarg ), an academic specialising in classical antiquity, invites American research assistant Oliver ( Armie Hammer ) to stay at the villa or a few weeks, there’s initially resentment from his 17-year-old son, Elio ( Timothée Chalamet ), who’s obliged to give up his bedroom to the interloper.

Nevertheless, Elio dutifully takes Oliver into the nearest town to open a bank account for his stay.

Call Me by Your Name filming location: Crema, Lombardy, Italy

The town is Crema , and it’s in the Piazza del Duomo in front of Crema Cathedral that, over drinks, Oliver asks what it is people do around here. As you may guess from the carefully angled shots, there’s not really a bar here.

The next time they cycle into town, it’s to Moscazzano , and Piazza Gambazocchi , where Elio watches as the charming Oliver joins a game of cards with the locals. And this bar is real – it’s Bar Belvedere, Piazza Gambazocchi, 7 .

Although tentative signals are exchanged between Elio and Oliver, they prove elusive and ambiguous. When the beats of the Psychedelic Furs impel Oliver to a flamboyant turn on the dancefloor at an alfresco disco party, Elio slips of with his kind-of-girlfriend Marzia ( Esther Garrel ) for a late-night swim.

They travel quite a way for it. The spot is Laghetto dei Riflessi , a small quarry lake in the Palata Menasciutto Nature Reserve , just to the southwest of Ricengo , though this is about three miles north of Crema.

Perlman Sr invites Oliver and Elio to join him on a trip to an archaeological site on Lake Garda , where precious artefacts are being recovered from the waters.

Call Me by Your Name filming location: Grottoes of Catullus, Sirmione, Lake Garda, Italy

This is Sirmione , a promontory at the southern tip of the lake. The brick columns and stone ruins here are Grottoes of Catullus , ruins of a Roman villa dating from about the time BC was turning into AD.

The awkwardness between Elio and Oliver is defused when Elio bravely declares a truce and the three go off for a sunset dip at nearby Spiaggia Giamaica ( Jamaica Beach ).

A turning point comes when Elio is read the story of a Knight who’s unable to declare his love for a Princess and is faced with the stark choice “Speak or die”.

As he strolls around the toweringly heroic WWI Memorial on Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III in Pandino , a few miles northwest of Crema, Elio chooses to speak, though Oliver quickly shuts the conversation down.

Despite the rebuff, Elio takes Oliver to his special place, where he goes to read and where the water running down from the mountains is freezing. This is Fontanile Quarantina , a quiet nature reserve near Capralba , northeast of Pandino. Elio’s dogged persistence pays off and in the meadow here there’s the first physical expression of their feelings. Again, it’s the cautious Oliver who pulls back.

On the way home, the pair stops at Cascina San Giorgio , on the tiny open space on Via Bosco at the southern end of Corte Palasio on SP124 – southwest of Crema toward Lodi, where they ask for a drink of water and are somewhat taken aback by the picture of Il Duce.

Feeling he’s given way to temptation, Oliver chooses to distance himself and the frustrated Elio turns to Marzia, meeting up with her opposite Crema 's Duomo in the colonnade running along the west side of Piazza Duomo at Via XX Settembre .

Elio eventually leaves a note for Oliver and their midnight meeting ends in the way it was always intended to, with a slow pan away to the window….

In Crema , the next day, Oliver – who seems inordinately sensitive about their age difference – apologises for “what happened last night”. In front of the newsagent at the southwest corner of Piazza Duomo , Elio is quick to reassure him.

So much time has passed that by now, Oliver’s time in Italy is nearly up. He’s off to spend a couple of days in Bergamo , a city about 30 miles north of Crema, before returning to the USA.

Everyone agrees it’s a good idea for Elio to accompany him, and they leave by coach from Piazza XXV Aprile , in front of the Baroque Chiesa di Montodine ( Church of Montodine ) in Montodine , a small town east of Moscazzano.

Now the floodgates have been opened, the two enjoy a crazily exhilarating few days in and around the city.

Call Me by Your Name filming location: Serio Waterfall Valbondione, Italy

The breathtaking waterfall among the mountains is actually much further north. It’s Le Cascate del Serio , about two miles northeast of Valbondione , and the highest waterfall in Italy . The falls are formed by three main steps on the Serio River , 166, 74 and 75 metres tall, altogether resulting in a drop of 315 m

Don’t expect to find that spectacular cascade all the time. A dam above the falls regulates the flow, releasing water for less than an hour, only four or five times a year. Plan ahead.

In Bergamo itself, the pensione at which Elio and Oliver stay was the, sadly now closed, Hotel Agnello d'Oro, Via Gombito, 22 , at Via San Pancrazio. Keep an eye on it – surely such a beautiful location overlooking Fontana del Gombito just northeast of the cathedral is not going to stay vacant for long.

The two enjoy one deliriously drunken night in the Piazza Padre Reginaldo Giuliani , in front of the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore where, once again Oliver succumbs to the lure of the Psychedelic Furs while poor Elio throws up.

It’s all over too quickly and Oliver has to leave. The most understatedly heartwrenching train farewell since David Lean ’s Brief Encounter , is supposedly at the station of 'Clusone', but is actually Pizzighettone , much further south and closer to Crema.

Elio is given a ride home by his mother and it’s in front of Bar Belvedere in Moscazzano that he has a reconciliation with Marzia who turns out to be remarkably understanding, agreeing they should stay friends forever.

The final shot sees Chalamet honourably joining the ranks of actors including Bob Hoskins ( The Long Good Friday ) and Michael Redgrave ( The Go-Between ) who been given the unenviable task of carrying the emotional weight of the film’s ending with one long, final close-up.

Piazza del Duomo, Crema

Crema, Lombardy

Director Luca Guadagnino once described Crema as “quintessentially Italian without being an idea of Italy”. At the heart of the city is the Piazza del Duomo – the colonnaded square surrounded by terraced houses where Elio and Oliver ride their bikes to sit at a bar in front of the cathedral. (The exact bikes, chairs and tables are still in place.) Make sure to wander down Via XX Settembre – the alleyway where Elio meets up with his girlfriend Marzia – as well.

Sirmione, Lake Garda

In Call My By Your Name, Elio and Oliver accompany Elio’s father, Samuel, on an archeological trip to Sirmione, discovering a bronze Roman statue within the waters of Lake Garda. Make a pilgrimage to the Grottoes of Catullus, the crumbling ruins that were once a grand Roman villa in the first century BC, before taking a sunset dip at Spiaggia Giamaica, also known as Jamaica Beach, where Elio and Oliver's romance begins to flourish.

For more wild swimming, head three miles north of Crema towards Laghetto dei Riflessi, the small lake in the Palata Menasciutto Nature Reserve where Elio takes Marzia for a late-night swim after that iconic dance scene to the Psychedelic Furs’ “Love My Way”.

The Serio Falls, or Cascate del Serio, outside of Bergamo are 315 meters high, making them Italy’s tallest and a fitting backdrop to the scene where Elio and Oliver playfully run towards the waterfall.

The Perlman villa is located in Moscazzano, a village five miles south of Crema. Built in the 16th century, the 15,000-square-foot house is set within five acres of lush gardens. Inside, there are vaulted and frescoed ceilings; an extravagant staircase; and the salon where the young Elio writes music on a grand piano. The home is now privately owned, but it's more than worth visiting charming Moscazzano regardless.

The Best Locations To Visit From Find Me

While Find Me takes place in both Rome and Paris, Aciman transports readers to the Italian capital, tracing Elio's exact footsteps through the city. Below are all of the spots of note.

Elio's father, Samuel, visits the now adult Elio in Rome, where he works as a pianist. They retrace the same paths on their frequent "vigils", wandering down streets like Via Vittoria, Via Belsiana, Via del Babuino and Via Margutta. Among the sites the father and son pass along the way? The Cimitero Acattolico – or Protestant Cemetery – in Testaccio, a quiet green space where both John Keats and Percy Bysshe Shelley are buried.

Also on Elio and Samuel's itinerary? Via Santa Maria dell’Anima, which ends at the spot where Oliver loving tends to Elio as he vomits by the statue of Pasquino in Aciman's version of Call Me By Your Name . (Guadagnino transferred the scene to Bergamo.) As Elio tells Oliver in the original novel: "There is a spot on via Santa Maria dell' Anima that I revisit every time I'm in Rome. I'll stare at it for a second, and suddenly it'll all come back to me. I had just thrown up that night and on the way back to the bar you kissed me...”

No visit to Rome is complete without a trip to the Pantheon. Follow Elio and Samuel's lead and take in the magnificent second-century building before heading to the iconic 14-seat Armando al Pantheon restaurant for classic Roman fare, from traditional ossobuco to pasta amatriciana. Follow with an espresso (or two) at the Caffe Sant' Eustachio in the heart of the Piazza Eustachio, another of the characters' favourites.

Built in the 18th century by architect Carlo Marchionni, Cardinal Alessandro Albani’s glorious villa houses one of the best collections of ancient sculpture in the world. It's home to statues, busts, vases, columns and, as Aciman writes, “the most beautiful bas-relief you’ll see in your life". Samuel's visit in Find Me is both romantic and deeply nostalgic. Submit your request for a guided tour with an art historian via the Fondazione Torlonia. It's more than worth the hassle.

Though the Oscars didn’t recognise it as they should have, 2017’s Call Me By Your Name was a thing of beauty, from the physical form of its stars Timothée Chalamet (Elio) and Armie Hammer (Oliver) and the women around them to the emotional power of its tale of first love and self-realisation. Most beautiful of all, though, was the Italian countryside and architecture that fills almost every scene.

Director Luca Guadagnino has a track record of placing locations at the centre of his work. In his previous film, 2015’s A Bigger Splash , the Italian island of Pantelleria pretty much drove the plot, drawing his characters into a series of drastic actions. This time, the effect is just as powerful but altogether more beatific.

Guadagnino is a little cagey about the details, giving us just the on-screen line that the story takes place ‘somewhere in Northern Italy’. He does tell all in the end titles, though, so perhaps his reservation is that this is home territory for him. André Aciman’s source novel was set on the coast, but the director moved the action to Lombardy, chiefly the town of Crema, an hour from Milan and close to where he lives. ‘It is quintessentially Italian without being an idea of Italy,’ he explained. ‘It’s just Italy.’

Of course, ‘just Italy’ is just gorgeous. The 17th-century mansion where Elio lives with his family, the Villa Albergoni, is just south in Moscazzano and sadly not open to visitors. Console yourself that this means you’ll never have to find out that both the peach trees and plunge pool that play central roles were faked up.

Call Me By Your Name film locations in Italy

Use player to listen to Italian version

Fresh from victory at the 90th Academy Awards for best adapted screenplay, director Luca Guadagnino’s beautiful film Call Me By Your Name is set in the northern Italian town of Crema and surrounding countryside.

“Crema has a sense of timelessness that I like, but I also think that it is quintessentially Italian without being an idea of Italy,” said Guadagnino, who, for years, lived nearby. “It’s just Italy. A lot of these Hollywood movies made in Italy look as fake as a chocolate coin. It’s a danger I don’t want to risk. For me it’s important you make the thing that looks the most correct and the most real.”

If you’ve seen Call Me By Your Name , chances are you’ve been captivated by the movie’s setting (well, besides the characters and delicate love story), and that you’ve been inspired to visit this area of Italy, little-known by tourist standards up until now.

Crema is located in the region of Lombardy, along the river Serio, about an hour from Milan. The streets, piazzas, and monuments of small town Crema, including the arch of Torrazzo by the Cathedral, all make their appearance in the film. Overall, the sense of a slower, almost idyllic, pace of life is conveyed through the film, and is sure to be another reason that will inspire people to visit the area.

Crema is a good base not only to explore the surrounding, peaceful countryside, perhaps on a bike, as the main characters do, but also other beautiful destinations in Lombardy that appear in the film: Lake Garda, where the archaeological discovery scene was filmed, precisely at the Grottoes of Catullus in Sirmione; picturesque Bergamo , where Oliver and Elio spend the last days of their romance; and the Cascate del Serio, in Valbondione just north of Bergamo, the highest waterfalls in Italy.

And the villa where Elio’s family spend their summers? It’s the  privately owned, 17th-century Villa Albergoni; located in Moscazzano (Cremona), it's currently for sale for €1.7M.

May 29, 2024

Welcome to the fascinating world of film locations in Italy ! Italy is a land rich in natural beauty , breathtaking landscapes , historic cities and ancient architecture , which have been the scenery for many successful films and TV series . From Federico Fellini's "La Dolce Vita" to Paolo Sorrentino's "The Young Pope" , and many others, Italy has been chosen as the set for many international cinematic masterpieces.

Inspired by my chief editor Lo[gan Ly ]( https://www.instagram.com/logeyly/ ), in the story you are about to read I decided to explore the beautiful places in Italy where the romantic film "Call Me by your name" is set. Although the original story described in the book by the American writer André Aciman is set in Liguria , where the city of B. stands for Bordighera , the excellent Italian director Luca Guadagnino decided in the film adaptation to put the story in different parts of the Lombardy region . Specifically between Crema and surroundings , Lake Garda and Bergamo , areas that were shown in all their splendour for the first time in the film. The film dates back to 2017 and won the Oscar for best non-original Screenplay . So this will be one of my trips to discover film locations in Italy: “Call me by your name”.

Villa Vimercati Griffoni Albergoni

Oliver and Elio meet for the first time in Villa Vimercati Griffoni Albergoni . It is a noble villa from the 1500s located in Moscazzano , a few kilometres from Crema . The villa has been sold for a relatively short time, and at the moment it cannot be visited.

The 80s furnishings seen in the film were inserted specifically for filming. Even if the villa is closed, its facade can be seen from the gate at Via Roma 15. Instead, moving along via Montodine, on the road to the right of the villa, you can see the tower where Oliver and Elio have their first love experiences, and the small green door , from which the protagonists enter and exit by bicycle.

The Crema area

The whole area around the city of Crema is the protagonist of the film, with its authentic views. Pandino , with the beautiful Visconti Castle and the War Memorial, where we witness the declaration of love between Oliver and Elio . Then Montodine , from where the two boys take the blue bus to go to Bergamo , in Piazza XXV Aprile.

Oliver and Elio love cycling, smelling the scents of nature and bathing in the rivers of the Lombardy countryside . With a bike ride , starting from Gradella , you can get to Pandino , and retrace the footsteps of the two protagonists of the film, perhaps stopping for a tasting or a purchase of cheeses in one of the dairies in the area.

The detailed itinerary to be covered by bike is as follows: Gradella – Flanking Cascina Nuova – Cascina Rinaldina – Cascina Pozzo – Crossing the Vacchelli canal – Take the SP91 Via Pandino towards Pandino – Cross Nosadello – Flanking Cascina Casella – Pandino .

In the surrounding countryside , there are also the Fontanili Cremaschi , which are part of the Parco dei Fontanili , and are mirrors of water where the locals go swimming in the summer, and many small lakes, such as the Laghetto dei Riflessi , where in the film Oliver and Elio share a kiss. In the Laghetto dei Riflessi , there is a ban on bathing, but during the hot summer season, it is easy to see people in the water cool off and enjoy this little corner of paradise.

Crema is the perfect setting for this romantic love story , and walking around the city you will feel as if you have ended up inside the film. One of the first releases of the two protagonists is set in the historic centre of Crema , where Oliver and Elio arrive by bike from Elio 's house. In the film, the arcades and the majestic Piazza Duomo are shown, with the Clock Tower , and the bar where the two protagonists are seated in one of the main scenes. Right in Piazza Duomo , in front of the newsstand, the hands of Elio and Oliver touch.

visit call me by your name locations

Then there is the famous wooden door, in via Marazzi 1, where the two protagonists declare their feelings , and Oliver says “I’d kiss you if I could” .

Among the cities bordering Lake Garda , Luca Guadagnino chooses the beautiful Sirmione for his film "Call Me by your name" . It is here that Prof. Perlman takes the boys to show the statue recovered in the waters of the lake. The scene is shot in the House of Catullo , the author of love verses dedicated to the beautiful Lesbia. The place where the statue was found is Jamaica Beach , not far from the Grottoes of Catullo . A tourist itinerary that allows you to visit the beauties of Lake Garda starts from Sirmione and passes through the village of Bardolino , where you can indulge in a little relaxation at the spa .

visit call me by your name locations

To discover the wonders of Lake Garda and to have a more complete view of this beautiful area, I suggest you book a Scenic Afternoon Boat Cruise with Prosecco & Snack . This experience includes a panoramic cruise around the lake , sailing towards the Rocca di Manerba and the Island of Garda , where you can admire the magnificent Borghese Island , a romantic walk in the village of Salò , an aperitif with prosecco and pizza , and a stop for a swim in the sparkling waters of the lake.

visit call me by your name locations

The Serio Waterfalls

We're almost at the end of the film, just a few more days, then Oliver will have to go back to America. The two protagonists have the opportunity to be alone on a trip to the Serio Waterfalls , which arise from the Serio River in the Orobie Alps . These waterfalls are the second highest in Italy , after the waterfalls of the Stroppia River in Cuneo , and plunge from a height of 1800m. The waterfalls can be seen from afar, but to see them up close you have to wait for the opening hours.

The beautiful city of Bergamo is the setting for the film's finale. In this city, the two protagonists exchange a passionate kiss. The scenes of the film are shot in Bergamo Alta , in the film we see the Cathedral , the heart of the historic centre. The other places that can be seen are the Hotel where Oliver and Elio sleep, in via Gombito 22, which unfortunately is closed, the fountain of Gombito , or San Pancrazio and the Piazza del Ballo , in front of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore .

Bergamo is a beautiful city to visit, especially in the more historically important Upper Bergamo (Bergamo Alta) . So why not book a 2.5-Hour Private Upper Town Tour ? The tour includes a city tour with a licensed tour guide and headphones, visiting the most famous places, but also unknown places, full of intrigues and secrets. The tour is highly customizable, both in terms of itinerary and language.

And what if, alongside the tour of the city of Bergamo , you also combine a gastronomic experience ? Discovering the gastronomic culture of Bergamo , in a 3.5-Hour Traditional Food Tour , to explore the delicacies with a local food guide . The tour includes visits with tastings at the best food shops in Bergamo , an aperitif , a dinner within the walls of the Upper Town , a tasting of stracciatella ice cream, which was invented here, and finally an espresso.

In conclusion, the locations of the film "Call Me by Your Name" played a major role in creating the unique and evocative atmosphere of the film. The 17th-century family villa, with its frescoes, gardens and pond, is the epitome of Italian countryside beauty and luxury. The small town of Crema , with its cobbled streets and cafés, takes us into a romantic and bohemian atmosphere . Finally, the river and its banks, where Elio and Oliver spend unforgettable moments, become a place of intimacy and passion. The places in the film represent the essence of Italian culture , the beauty of its landscapes and its culinary tradition . But, above all, they tell us a love story that is born in a magical place , where everything seems possible, even if only for one summer.

In this way, "Call Me by Your Name" is not only a film that tells a love story but also an ode to the beauty of Italian life , nature and culture . An invitation to discover the magical places of this country and to be inspired by their beauty. I hope this first trip to discover the film locations in Italy: "Call Me by your name" has aroused your curiosity and desire to visit the magical places, but other places await you, coming soon !

About Call Me by Your Name

Call Me by Your Name, directed by the talented Luca Guadagnino and starring Timothee Chalamet, Armie Hammer, and Michael Stuhlbarg, is a spectacular 2017 romantic drama. Critics praised Ivory's screenplay, Guadagnino’s directing technique, and Mukdeeprom’s cinematography, however, it’s the remarkable performances that made the coming-of-age drama utterly captivating.

The film is set in 1983 Italy and follows the story of a 17-year-old Elio Perlman (Timothée Chalamet) who falls in love with his father’s American research assistant, Oliver (Armie Hammer). Throughout a memorable summer, the two learn more about themselves, their feelings, and their sexuality.

The critical response to Call Me By Your Name was overwhelmingly positive, evidenced by the numerous accolades it received. At the 2018 Academy Awards, it won Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay) for James Ivory’s screenplay. The film also received two nominations at the 75th Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama for Timothee Chalamet.

Perlman Family’s villa scene in Call Me by Your Name

Villa Albergoni, 26010 Moscazzano CR, Italy

Most scenes of the Perlman family residence scenes were shot in a lush Italian villa surrounded by trees and overlooking rolling hills. The house, Villa Albergoni, is located in the small village of Moscazzano, near Cremona in northern Italy.

Constructed in 18th-century style, this private home provided a beautiful backdrop for the unfolding romance between Elio and Oliver. Elio's adventure kicks off with him staying at a picturesque villa in his family's company while accompanying his father (Michael Stuhlbarg) on an archeological exploration.

The exterior of Villa Albergoni also served as the backdrop for many scenes in the movie, and it is instantly recognized by its charming yellow walls and red–tiled roof. Inside, is a grand staircase lined with frescoes and paintings that provide glimpses into Italy's history. When filming concluded, the Call Me By Your Name production team left behind a swimming pool like the one seen on screen, and it’s now another attraction in the area.

To reach Villa Albergoni from Cremona, take Via Strada Provinciale south until you come across Catelleone. Then turn left onto Via Ripalta Arpina/SP14 (you'll be able to see the signs for Montodine/Codogno). Once you're close to Moscazzano, look for the villa on your right side. Alternatively, it is accessible by car or bus from Milan or Bologna, with services running regularly throughout the day.

Elio and Oliver riding their bikes in front of a cathedral scene in Call Me by Your Name

Piazza del Duomo, 26013 Crema CR, Italy

The scene in the movie takes place at Piazza del Duomo in Crema, Italy. Elio faithfully escorts Oliver to the nearest village so that he can set up a bank account for his stay. The camera angles and shots give an ethereal feeling to the scene as the duo ride their bicycles and engage in their first conversation while surrounded by the beauty of the piazza.

The location was chosen for its classic Italian architecture that stands out among other surrounding structures. Director Luca Guadagnino took advantage of the already existing historical elements of the piazza, such as Crema Cathedral and its Torrazzo tower door from 1525 which were donated to the city by Francesco II Sforza. A 16th-century fountain constructed by Niccolò dell'Arcais is also visible in the background, making it an excellent place for tourists looking to soak up some picturesque views.

Taking a train from Milan Central Station gets you to Crema's station in about an hour, which is just a few minutes away from Piazza del Duomo. Several buses run from Milan's Stazione Centrale that take around 1h 30m to reach the same destination. Once you arrive at Piazza del Duomo in Crema, you'll enjoy fantastic views of the beautiful plaza and its surrounding buildings.

The beach scene in Call Me by Your Name

Grotte di Catullo in Sirmione, Lake Garda, Italy

The scene at Grotte di Catullo is an integral part of the film. It gives us a glimpse into Elio’s relationship with his father and also serves as the backdrop for his first intimate moments with Oliver.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Lake Garda in Italy, the trio explores the ancient site and examines artifacts unearthed from this first-century Roman villa. The lake provided an idyllic setting for Elio and Oliver’s swim in the late afternoon sun.

Grotte di Catullo is located in Sirmione on the southern end of Lake Garda in Italy. It’s one of Europe's largest lakes, stretching from Lombardy in the west to Veneto in the east. The villa was built by a wealthy Roman family during the 1st century AD and featured caves carved into white limestone rock, three thermal baths, and partially submerged mosaics.

For a memorable experience at Spiaggia Giamaica (Jamaica Beach), follow the shoreline of Lake Garda to Desenzano del Garda. There, you will encounter this stunning beach, its Mediterranean vegetation, and exquisite views of Lake Garda.

Grotte di Catullo is conveniently accessible by car or bus from Milan or Verona. From Milan, it’s a two-hour journey via Autostrada A4 / E70 highway; whereas for those coming in from Verona, it's only fifty minutes down the same motorway. If preferred, direct buses are also available from both cities as well.

Elio conveys his feelings for Oliver scene in Call Me by Your Name

Cascate del Serio, 24020 Valbondione Province of Bergamo, Italy

The scene at the Cascate del Serio from the movie is genuinely breathtaking. As the protagonists ascend toward their destination, a spectacular three-tiered waterfall opens up before them. With mist from its waters enveloping them, Elio and Oliver climb higher together until they reach the summit, where they share intimate moments.

Valbondione, Italy provided the setting for the scene, offering viewers an honest look into its natural beauty. Set in a picturesque valley surrounded by lush forests, it’s easy to see why this location was chosen for such an intimate moment of love and understanding between two people.

As the highest waterfall in Italy, Cascate del Serio is a breathtaking sight to behold. It comprises three majestic cascades falling 166 meters, 74 meters, and 75 meters, respectively, along the course of the magnificent Serio River - culminating in an awe-inspiring total drop of 315 meters.

From Milan Central Station, take one of several regional trains going to Lovere Station. From there, a bus departs every hour that will take you straight to Valbondione. Once in Valbondione, visitors should go to Centro Visitatori di Valbondione, where they can get further information on how to reach Cascate del Serio and any other activities available in the area.

Train station scene in Call Me by Your Name

Viale Stazione, 1, 26026 Pizzighettone LO, Italy

The scene at Pizzighettone railway station is a heartbreaking goodbye between Elio and Oliver. As the train leaves, they part ways with an emotional embrace, a sorrowful look of longing in their eyes that resonates with viewers everywhere. This farewell is a pivotal part of the movie and it’s undoubtedly one of the movie’s most powerful moments.

The Pizzighettone railway station in Lombardy, Italy is set near the Chiesa di San Pietro and Ferrovia Pavia-Mantova bridge. It could not have been a more appropriate setting for such an emotional moment between Elio and Oliver, given how the beauty of this place truly enhances their sorrowful yet heartfelt farewell.

To get there, you’ll have to first travel to Crema or Milan by plane or train. Then take a regional train from either city towards Pizzighettone Railway Station. Once you arrive at the station, you will see all the unique features that make it so special and memorable from the movie.

Call Me by Your Name is a stunning look into the multifaceted beauty of first love. Timothée Chalamet delivered an outstanding performance as Elio Perlman, demonstrating his remarkable ability to express emotions that ranged from joy to anguish. The script was brilliantly crafted; it aptly portrayed the complexities and subtleties of a relationship between two people at different stages in life.

The concept behind this movie was both sublimely captivating and wildly familiar; it presented how powerful feelings can sometimes overpower your very being for some time. The film follows the story through Elio's perspective, unveiling his romantic daydreams and passion. He initiates the relationship with Oliver at first glance, but Oliver also owns up to participating in a two-way attraction portrayed as mutual and inevitable.

Guadagnino shies away from examining the age difference between Elio and Oliver too deeply; had he done so, it would have pushed him towards looking further beneath the luxurious veneer of this tale - resulting in greater complexity that may not be nearly as pleasant or pretty.

The movie was a groundbreaking moment for the industry, introducing LGBTQ+ stories into mainstream media and showing that they are just as significant and valid as those of heterosexual relationships. This remarkable contribution revealed the power of these tales in our culture today, stressing their importance to viewers everywhere.

Overall, Call Me by Your Name is worth watching. It has enough emotion and drama to satisfy viewers looking for something different from their usual movie-watching experience. The cinematography is beautiful, providing audiences with stunning shots that will stay with them long after watching it. It also allows viewers to connect with the characters on an emotional level and relate to their experiences in a way that few movies have managed.

Somewhere in Northern Italy, you can now explore the locations featured in last year’s Oscar-winning movie Call Me By Your Name . A new LGBTQ-friendly tour will let visitors fall into Elio and Oliver’s summer love story while travelling through the Po Valley from Milan to Venice .

Travel News -

The cities of Bergamo and Crema will be the highlights of the tour since they’re both vital to the plot of the movie. Visitors will see all the main sets, from the villa that is Elio’s house, to the square where the two protagonists spend their last night in Italy together. They will also be able to climb up to the Cascate del Serio waterfalls— maybe even with Sufjan Steven’s "Mystery of Love" playing in the background like it does in the movie.

Travel News -

The tour is organised by Quiiky , the first LGBTQ tour operator in Italy. They usually specialise in tours exploring Italian cities’ LGBTQ history, and this is their first time getting inspiration from a movie. "We hope to recreate the atmosphere that Guadagnino brought to life in Call Me By Your Name , for example by offering the possibility to do a bicycle tour of the countryside around Crema," they say.

"The strong Italian spirit of the movie and its massive resonance abroad are what pushed us to design this tour," Quiiky continues. "We expected a lot of contacts from the United States, considering that Call Me By Your Name won an Oscar there, but we’re getting feedback from Japan, China, and South Korea as well."

Travel News -

Quiiky will hold a press conference to present the itinerary later in the summer, and enlist the help of Italian and foreign influencers alike to promote it, while the tour will officially start in October. For further information, please visit the dedicated page on their website here .

Exploring the Stunning Italian Locations of ‘Call Me By Your Name’

The main setting of ‘Call Me By Your Name’ is a 17th century villa located in Lombardy, northern Italy. The villa, which is owned by Elio’s family, is situated in the lush countryside of Crema, a picturesque town surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards.

Crema is a popular tourist destination for its historical architecture, cobblestone streets, and vibrant cultural scene. The city is home to a number of churches, museums, and galleries, as well as a variety of restaurants and cafes. Call Me by Yourn Name filming locations #1: Scenes from Moscazzano

Villa Albergoni

Much of the film is about the Perlman family, Elio’s parents’estate,  a villa. The building is real, not a set. It is located in Moscazzano, a village of 800 people near Crema.

The building is an imposing structure with a patina. In the 13th century, the influential and powerful Vimercati family of Milan moved to Crema and began building this rural mansion on the ruins of a former castle, according to records. Moscazzano’s feudal record in this respect dates back to 1499. Until the 18th century, the villa underwent many alterations and transformations.

When Angela, a Vimercati daughter, married the Count of Griffoni Sant’Angelo, the estate and the palace passed into the hands of the Griffoni family in 1776. A work by the artist Finoli Bassano, depicting the castle then bearing the name of the Count’s family, survives from the early 1820s and was painted in honour of Count Angelo Griffoni Sant’Angelo, with whom the man of the Count’s family had died. The villa has changed hands and has undergone many transformations over the centuries, both in the building itself and in the impressive gardens that surround it.

It has been the property of the Stramezzi family for the longest time, for eight decades, when it was bought in 1961 by the Albergoni family, who still own it today.

They made their fortune thanks to their iron company. Francesco Albergoni, better known as Popi, was a popular botanical professor. Albergoni, like Professor Perlman in the film, had a doctorate in science. Albergoni decided to let much of the estate run wild because he planned to raise free-range rabbits. It is said that every morning the old professor had breakfast among the rabbits. Villa Albergoni was inherited by his two sons.

It has two floors and two towers – the kitchen was added to one side.

visit call me by your name locations

The property was once surrounded by a beautiful park, which has now become overgrown. The villa itself is in need of renovation – inside and out – but even in its dilapidated state it is still beautiful.

Here the professor often dined with his family and Oliver at the table set under the trees.

visit call me by your name locations

Luca Guadagnino, the film’s director, who lives in neighbouring Crema, knew one of the Albergoni boys, Jacopo. He managed to arrange for the film to be shot in the deserted villa. While some of the rooms in the villa were used for filming the scenes, the other rooms were used as costume and make-up rooms and hairdressing salons. Jacopo Albergoni says that 80 percent of the furniture in the film belongs to his family.

Jacopo says that the smells of the garden remind him most of his childhood. The garden was full of pomegranate trees, but the peach and apricot trees were brought in by the film makers, a kind of film ‘prop’. Jacopo says the garden was always his father’s pride and joy.

The villa was once the jewel in Moscazzano’s crown. A watercolour still exists showing the estate in its original state. This tells us that the villa was once surrounded by an elegant park and was in fact much larger than what remains. The painting shows that where the street now stands, and the farm buildings on the adjacent plot, there was once a dam or stream with a slender bridge spanning it. According to the latest information, probably due to the popularity of the film and the influx of tourists, it has been decided to restore the park to its original state.

Villa Albergoni

Picture/Author: Finoli Bassano (notizie sec. XIX), incisore

As interest in Villa Albergoni has increased, the owners recently decided to sell the property.

Currently asking €1.7 million. However, the investor must have much more capital, as the plaster is falling off in many places inside the building, and the frescoes should be restored to their original state. According to Jacopo Albergoni, the villa was already for sale, because the two brothers could only visit the house once a year, in the summer, and the maintenance costs were enormous.

They think that now, with the popularity of the film increasing the value of the property, it is worth selling it. The villa’s gardener tells us that tourists visit the villa daily to admire its beauty and to pay homage to the film and its creators.

“Call me by your name”: 9 iconic locations where Guadagnino’s film was shot

Giorgiə

Even today, a few years after the success of the film “ Call Me By Your Name ,” there are many people who want to know exactly Call Me By Your Name locations are , the Luca Guadagnino’s gay-themed film that won the Academy Award and the BAFxTA award for Best Non-Original Screenplay to James Ivory, was shot.

In addition to the homosexual love story between Elio and Oliver, it was the film’s setting that captured the attention and admiration of international audiences, with the striking Lombard landscapes, often off the tourist track (such as those of the countryside between Lodi and Crema that are glimpsed in Guadagnino’s film).

Today we go over and compile a list of the Call Me By Your Name locations , especially those where the scenes between the two lovers Elio and Oliver take place, hoping that from here you will be able to draw some useful information for your next itinerary.

Anyway, we would like to remind you that QuiikyTourOperator is the first travel agency in Italy to organize gay friendly CMBYN group tour , with English-speaking professional guide to discover the locations of the film: an ideal tour where you can make new acquaintances and form friendships with people who share the same passion for cinema and traveling together .

Where is Call Me By Your Name set in Italy?

Here is a list of the locations of Guadagnino’s film “Call Me With Your Name” and the scenes that take place there between Elio and Oliver:

Villa Vimercate Griffoni Albergoni

Main Gate : Via Roma 15 (Moscazzano – CR)

Green gate and tower : Via Montodine (Moscazzano CR)

In this country villa, Elio and Oliver spend much of their time together and fall in love. There are many tourists who try to pass through the gates to visit the villa internally, but today this is no longer possible. The estate has prevented visits, even for a fee .

Vittorio Emanuele III Square – Pandino (Cremona)

In the square of Pandino, stands the war memorial where Elio first confides his love to Elio by repeating the phrase “ I wanted you to know “. Also, the two boys take the blue bus to go to Bergamo from this square.

Piazza XXV Aprile – Montodine (Cremona)

This is the square where the two main characters take the blue bus to go to Bergamo .

Piazza Duomo – Crema (CR)

Crema is the setting for the scene of Elio and Oliver sitting at the small table in the “ Bar del Domo ” relaxing on the hot, sunny summer day of 1983: a scene that went viral on the Web. The Pro Loco of Crema decided to place a small table, three chairs and two bicycles (the very ones used by the actors) to allow tourists to take a selfie!

In Crema there are other iconic places in the film, such as the newsstand (in Piazza del Duomo), where Elio and Oliver confide with fullness and intensity the feelings they have for each other, and the kissing door (in Via Marazzi, 1).

Lake Garda – Sirmione (BS)

House of Catullus : Piazzale Orti Manara, 4 – Sirmione

Jamaica Beach : at the foot of the House of Catullus.

In Sirmione, famous for its charming historic center, beautiful beaches on Lake Garda and the Thermal Baths of Catullus, Luca Guadagnino sets a scene from the film “Call Me By Your Name”: the one where Professor Perlman takes Elio and Oliver to see the statue found in the waters .

The setting is the house of Catullus, while the beach where the scene of the discovery of the statue is filmed is “ Jamaica Beach .”

Two routes can be taken to reach this beach: one that runs along the lake from the municipal lido, the other (more scenic) that starts from the entrance to Catullus’ caves.

Laghetto dei Riflessi – Serio Regional Park – Ricengo (CR)

laghetto dei riflessi, serio regional park, call me by your name location

In this countryside area, Elio and Oliver ride their bicycles and bathe in the iconic Laghetto dei Riflessi , the fascinating place chosen by Guadagnino to set one of the film’s most memorable scenes.

Tourists and fans to emulate the lake bathing done by Elio and Elivan, however, transgress an explicit prohibition . There are, in fact, on multiple locations of bathing bans (in both Italian and English). The volunteer ecological guards of the Serio Park must, for this very reason, work overtime in the summer to preserve this naturalistic place of rare beauty.

Serio Falls – Valbondione, Bergamo

Departing from Valbondione: CAI trail 305 (the most comfortable, with mule track); CAI trail 332 (steeper)

Another unforgettable scene from the film “Call Me By Your Name” is that of Elio and Oliver’s run up the slope, behind which appears the triple drop of the Serio Waterfalls, the second highest in Italy that plunge from a height of about 1,800 meters .

Making an excursion to this specific place is not always possible: there are, in fact, 5 openings per year . It is worthwhile, therefore, to find out well in advance when you can access this area, and since it is a mountain hike, it is useful to bring suitable clothing.

Piazza Rosate – Bergamo Alta (BG)

During an evening, Elio and Oliver walk through the historic center of Bergamo Alta until they reach Piazza Rosate, where in the parking lot of the Liceo Sarpi there are some boys listening to a Richard Butler song. Here Oliver stops to dance. Soon after, it is here that he ends up in the arms of Elio , where he exchanges a passionate kiss with him .

Crema Italy: A Journey to the Ethereal Town of Call Me By Your Name

Journey to somewhere in northern Italy and explore the ethereal town of Call Me By Your Name with me: Crema Italy. Walk in Elio and Oliver’s footsteps as I share all of the filming locations and other hidden gems in my dreamy trip to Northern Italy. #italytravel #callmebyyourname #visititaly #italytravelguide #travellingitaly #timotheechalamet

Two summers ago, I came across a film that truly resonated with me. This particular movie had seen a lot of awards buzz, but I had sorely overlooked it at the time. And I fell in love. Call Me By Your Name painted an ethereal picture of a place untouched by time or tourism.

Elio and Oliver’s love story was nothing short of enthralling, and the setting of the film was understated yet like something straight out of a fairytale. Country lanes lined with cypress trees, sidewalk cafes in front of soaring churches, a timeless place where bicycles are the primary form of transportation. It was everything I wasn’t expecting Italy to look like. Crema took me off guard in the absolute best way.

I knew that after getting a lingering taste of Northern Italy through the film that I had to see the real place for myself. So, I journeyed across the world to the enchanting town of Call Me By Your Name : Crema.

Just a few short train rides from Milan, Crema is located in Italy’s scenic Lombardy region in the shadow of the Alps. The first thing you see when you step off the train is the all-too-familiar train station where Emilio and Oliver bade their farewells. A short walk through a city park and a few charming cobblestone streets lead me to a place that left me with a subtle yet magnetic sense of deja vu. I was standing where it all began—in the square where Emilio and Oliver sat chatting over coffee at a nondescript but charming cafe. It is so strange to be in a place that you feel like you’ve been to before but are truly seeing with fresh eyes for the first time.

To say that Crema is even more charming in person is a gross understatement. Crema is everything you would imagine an authentic Italian town to be. Filled with kind locals, beautiful historic buildings with pink flower boxes in the windows and something more intangible that’s a little harder to put my finger on. It takes a lot for a place to captivate me, but that little square in Crema did just that. There is a true peace and a warmth about those golden facades and cobblestone streets.

Crema is a slice of Italy that needs to be seen to be believed. Since this little town is such a hidden gem, I thought I’d approach this guide a little differently than I typically do by sharing more imagery mixed in with a few recommendations and filming locations. Here are my top places to see in Crema as featured in Call Me By Your Name (and a few that I discovered on my own):

Is your area crying out for a new supermarket to broaden your options and push prices down with a bit of competition?

Last month, the UK’s fourth largest supermarket - Aldi - asked shoppers to get in touch with their views on where it should open new stores.

The discount chain says it received thousands of replies, which it has used to hone its search for new store sites.

At the moment, Aldi has more than 1,020 stores. It says it wants more than 1,500 stores across the UK in the long run.

The 27 areas of priority to Aldi are:

  • Woodford, London
  • Surbiton, London
  • South Croydon, London
  • Notting Hill, London
  • Walthamstow, London
  • Beckenham, London
  • Bromley, London
  • Barnet, London
  • Redhill, Surrey
  • Aldershot, Hampshire
  • Haywards Heath, West Sussex
  • Burgess Hill, West Sussex
  • Chatham, Kent
  • Cheadle, Greater Manchester
  • Chorlton, Manchester
  • Formby, Liverpool
  • Newark, Nottinghamshire
  • Chesterfield, Derbyshire
  • Wellingborough, Northamptonshire
  • Rayleigh, Essex
  • Brentwood, Essex
  • Dorchester, Dorset
  • Clarkston, Scotland
  • Cathcart, Scotland
  • Penzance, Cornwall
  • Warwick, Warwickshire
  • Bath, Somerset

Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: "We want to make high quality food accessible to all, but we can’t do that while there are still some towns and areas that either don’t have an Aldi or have capacity for additional stores.

"We recognise there is huge demand in certain regions for more stores, which is why we decided to get the public’s input on our latest list of priority locations."

Which?, the consumer website and magazine, has ranked Aldi as the cheapest supermarket in the UK consistently this year.

Using a typical list of popular items, Which? ranked Aldi as the cheapest place to shop from January to May - with rivals Lidl coming in second.

However, for a longer list of items and a bigger shop, Asda and Morrisons have typically been the top two for Which? this year.

Most of us know the feeling of rushing back to your car when you realise your ticket is about to run out.

The good news is, new rules mean you won't have to race back quite as breathlessly in future.

Drivers are to get a 10-minute grace period when their time runs out at private car parks.

The changes are coming in after industry bodies the British Parking Association (BPA) and the International Parking Community (IPC) published a new code of conduct.

However, the AA said it still leaves room for drivers to be ripped off because it misses out "desperately needed" measures such as a cap on charges.

The electric carmaker Tesla is recalling more than 11,000 of its new Cybertruck vehicles after safety regulators found a potentially dangerous fault with its giant windscreen wiper.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also said a trim in the boot may be improperly attached.

"Excessive electrical current can cause the front windshield wiper motor controller to fail," the safety administration said in a recall acknowledgement letter.

Tesla said it would replace the wiper motor at no cost to owners.

It comes after nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks were recalled in April to fix an accelerator pedal pad that could come loose.

Mass production of the vehicle, which starts at a price of $79,990 (£63,130), is expected to start next year.

It's not yet known how many trucks have gone to consumers, but the Blade Runner-inspired car has been plagued by problems.

Customers of both Tesco and OVO Energy are entitled to 2,500 free Clubcard points, the supermarket has announced.

The points can be redeemed as a £25 voucher or at double their value with Clubcard reward partners.

Customers can unlock the points by linking their accounts with both companies.

"The cost of living remains a key challenge for households and our partnership with Tesco is one of the many ways in which we are giving back to our customers with rewards that they can spend how they choose," said Mat Moakes, chief commercial officer at OVO.

New customers can link their Tesco Clubcard account when they sign up as an OVO customer, while existing OVO customers can log into their account, go to their profile, click "our partners", and select the Tesco Clubcard logo.

Want to see a show in London this summer without breaking the bank?

You're in luck - as new data has revealed the most affordable musicals to see in the capital right now.

The data, collated by theatre ticket site SeatPlan , shows the most affordable musical to see in London right now is Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York), with the average cheapest ticket price at £17.90.

The rom-com musical follows a British boy (Dougal), who lands in New York for his dad's second wedding.

At the airport, he meets the bride's sister, and a quirky, offbeat love story ensues.

Also in the top 10 are Marie Curie The Musical (£20), Guys And Dolls (£23.90) and Sister Act (£26.40).

Shows are ranked by the average price of the cheapest ticket, with the top ranked show having the lowest price.

On the flip side, the data also revealed the most expensive tickets, by analysing internal pricing data for musicals from SeatPlan.com.

Musicals including Cabaret (£85.10), Mean Girls (£64.60) and Starlight Express (£43.70) make up this list...

If you've been reassured by positive recent news on inflation and a widely-anticipated cut in interest rates later this year, unfortunately the Bank of England has a worrying update for mortgage payers.

About three million UK households are still set to witness hikes in their mortgage repayments over the next two years, the Bank has said.

Its Financial Policy Committee (FPC) added there are likely to be "very large increases" of more than 50% for the mortgages of around 400,000 households.

But the central bank stressed that UK lenders are still in a strong position to support households and businesses, even if the economic backdrop worsens.

The concerning update is in the Bank's latest Financial Stability Report.

It also showed that most households have already had an increase in their mortgage rates since borrowing costs began rising substantially in 2022.

Why is the outlook so bad if interest rates are expected to fall?

Interest rates are at a 16-year-high of 5.25%, with the central bank voting to maintain the figure for a seventh consecutive meeting earlier this month.

But many economists have predicted the base rate could be reduced at the Bank's next vote in August.

However, at the moment, around 35% of households with mortgages, or more than three million, are paying below 3% for a range of reasons - like existing deals which pre-dated the recent crisis - and are expected to see an increase between now and the end of 2026.

A typical household rolling off a fixed-rate mortgage before the end of 2026 is due to face a jump of around £180 a month, the report said.

It highlighted that an "increasing proportion" of households have been choosing to borrow over a longer period of time, reducing monthly repayments but leaving them with more debt to service over time.

Higher mortgage rates have resulted in many households and renters reducing their savings, the Bank also found.

PrettyLittleThing is facing more criticism after announcing it would issue refunds on delivery subscriptions for accounts it has banned for returning too many items.

The online fashion giant says it will refund outstanding gift cards and store credit, as well as £9.99 to closed accounts which had already purchased its royalty service entitling them to unlimited next day delivery for a year.

The company said: "We have noticed an extremely high returns rate from a small pool of customers who have demonstrated behaviours that were inconsistent with what we experience with the rest of our customer base.

"The actions taken are not designed to limit our customers who do need to return or deter them from returning, it was taken to address a small proportion of customers who have a high returns rate."

PrettyLittleThing added it does not plan to close any further accounts.

Some customers were not happy with the response, with one posting on X: "This is bullshit my last return was December 2023... and of course you turned off the comments."

Another wrote: "PrettyLittleThing expects us to order our clothes twice because their sizing is off and is closing people's accounts because of frequent returns. What a way to ruin your own business."

Amazon was grabbing attention overnight.

It's become the fifth US company to reach a $2trn market value milestone.

Can you name the others? Answers below!

Analysts are crediting strong demand for technology-related stocks amid the rush for AI.

They also point to the growing hope among investors for a late summer/early autumn interest rate cut by the US central bank.

Amazon's shares ended the session on Wall St almost 4% up at $193 apiece.

The FTSE 100 has had a fairly muted start after falling almost 0.3% yesterday.

The index was one point up at 8,226 in early dealing.

In the wider market, Halfords stock was trading 6% lower.

The cycle sales and motor-focused retailer had earlier reported a fall in annual profits of almost a fifth and said that trading remained "soft".

The message to the market from Currys, the electricals chain, was more upbeat.

It revealed a 10% lift to its bottom line in the year to 27 April and said it was more confident about demand ahead.

Currys shares were 1% down, however, potentially reflecting concerns that its profit performance was not driven by higher sales.

Before I go... the answers to the $2trn+ club question above, as promised - the other members of this elite grouping are: Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia and Alphabet.

More than half of councils are not confident their area is prepared to roll out the next phase of free childcare, a report has found.

From September, 15 hours of free childcare a week will be available to working parents of all children aged over nine months old - expanding the policy from working parents of two-year-olds.

But 59% of local authorities say they are unsure if they will have enough places, citing significant challenges in recruiting and retaining staff, according to research by Coram Family and Childcare.

"For this policy to be a success, it is essential that all families can take up their entitlements, and the next few months will be a crucial time in making sure they can," said Ellen Broome, managing director of Coram.

The childcare changes coming in September are the penultimate phase of a policy introduced by the chancellor at the budget last year.

In September 2025, all working parents of children aged over nine months olds will be eligible for 30 hours free childcare per week.

Coram found only 11% of councils were confident there will be enough places to meet demand - a figure almost unchanged since January.

At present, 52% of councils say all or almost all eligible parents seeking 15 hours of free childcare have been able to.

But Ms Broome added: "We are concerned there may be further issues not only this September, but further down the line for families in getting the childcare they need."

Beyond workforce challenges, 36% of councils identified local buildings and space as barriers to delivering the service.

Martin Lewis has hit out at the Conservatives for using him in an attack ad.

The Tories posted a clip of the Money Saving Expert founder on X describing how a senior Labour member had told him they wanted to introduce a policy that was not in its manifesto.

Mr Lewis said the discussion he had been referring to was not about tax rises, but the Conservatives featured the video alongside the words: "They're not telling you the full truth. Labour have said they wouldn't put up your taxes. But it's now becoming clear that they have every intention to put them up."

Criticising the ad, Mr Lewis wrote: "NOWHERE in this comment do I talk about taxes.

"And the policy that I discussed (I will keep private as it was private) was NOT about taxes, or tax rises, it was about something that would be a positive change."

The Tories' original post was later tagged with a community note – a feature on X allowing readers to add context to a claim.

"Martin Lewis has confirmed that the policy he refers to in the video was not about taxes, and so is unrelated to the text it is presented alongside," the note read.

Labour, like the Tories, have promised not to increase income tax, national insurance or VAT during the next parliament.
