Best Island Hopping Tour in El Nido

Which of these El Nido tours should you book? A few years ago, tour A and tour C were the most popular. However, due to recent changes to put less pressure on the environment, all tours are equally very impressive. We personally would recommend adding tours A, B, or D to your Philippines Travel Guide .

Where to book an El Nido Island Hopping Tour?

Since the new regulations in 2019, there is a limited amount of people per day that may enter Bacuit Bay. We recommend you book at least two days ahead to be sure you have a spot. There are a few things to keep an eye on while booking an El Nido boat tour. Book a tour online or in town at ArtCafe .

  • Don’t go for the lowest price! The lowest-priced tours will mix you with another group, so they get a full boat. The quality of these tours can’t be guaranteed.
  • Make sure drinking water is included because you are not allowed to take plastic bottles.
  • Check if the tour includes the environmental tax. (200PHP) – Feb 2019
  • Check if snorkeling gear & kayak are included.
  • Try checking the company’s reviews on TripAdvisor.

Hey! We’d usually opt for 10% of the total price but try to pay the workers directly and not the operator. 😊

The Ultimate TOUR A Experience in El Nido, Palawan (Story & Guide)

 alt=

Our second day marked the beginning of our exploration of the islands, beaches, and limestone formations in El Nido.

Tour A is one of the most popular in El Nido. Unlike Tour C, which is known for its hidden and secret beaches, Tour A focuses on the breathtaking lagoons.

We were early for our rendezvous at the port. We smiled and chatted with fellow tourists, seizing the opportunity to connect with other travelers. There, we met Michael and Sarah, a Swiss couple, who shared their travel stories with us and expressed their enjoyment of the Philippines . This is one of the best things about travel – the people you meet along the way.

By 8 AM, we hopped on the boat and the tour began.

Although Tour A is renowned for its breathtaking lagoons, our first stop that morning was the beach. The clear waters and limestones of 7 Commandos Beach were a stunning introduction to El Nido .

1. 7 Commandos Beach

7 Commandos Beach is the closest to El Nido town, so it’s typically either the first or the last stop on the tour.

We had no complaints about starting here, as it gave us a fantastic glimpse into the wonder of  El Nido with its white sand, clear waters, and limestone cliffs, fulfilling every desire for relaxation in an island paradise.

2. Big Lagoon

After spending a few minutes walking along the long stretch of beach, we headed to the Big Lagoon. The entrance to the Big Lagoon, with its surreal and magical pathway, was a breathtaking experience.

It felt like two colossal cliffs were parting ways to welcome us, like entering a different realm. It was incredibly beautiful!

3. Shimizu island

Next, we headed to Shimizu Island.

One of the boatmen, who sat beside me, revealed that this was their favorite island – a sentiment shared by many tour guides and boatmen. When I inquired why, he mentioned that it’s where we would have our lunch.

Shimizu Island, named after a Japanese scuba diver who tragically died while exploring its underwater tunnels, offers the perfect setting for beach bumming while enjoying seafood, delectable ensalada, veggies, and fruits. We enjoyed it immensely!

4. Secret Lagoon

Our next stop was the Secret Lagoon. We halted near a cluster of huge rocks. As all the tourists headed in one direction, we followed, swimming and walking on sharp rocks until we reached a small opening.

Passing through a hole, we found ourselves inside an enclosed lagoon. It was an awe-inspiring sight!

5. Small Lagoon

The Small Lagoon was our final destination and one of the most unforgettable adventures in El Nido.

We kayaked to a narrow entrance, feeling an exhilarating rush as we ventured inside the Small Lagoon. It was simply amazing how nature has crafted such breathtaking beauty.

What to Eat and Drink in El Nido

Food in El Nido, Palawan

After a day of island-hopping and touring, one of the best things to do here is to enjoy the El Nido restaurants and nightlife around town. El Nido has that small-town charm that is preserved by the locals, and travel businesses, so don't expect the night scene to be similar to Boracay.

Local Cuisine

El Nido has a diverse food scene, with boutique restaurants serving international cuisine right next to humble hole-in-the-wall eateries. You can find any cuisine here to suit your mood.

Just walk along the side streets, and you can easily come across Japanese sushi, Mediterranean cuisine, artisanal gelato, and good-old Filipino grilled specialties.

But one thing not to miss when in El Nido, Palawan is the bird's nest soup. It is a delicacy made from the bird's nest of the Balinsasayaw bird that it forms with its saliva. El Nido is named after this, as El Nido translates to "The Nest."

The nests are found in the crevices of the limestone cliffs found around El Nido. This simple soup is pricey, though because of its limited supply and the difficulty of harvesting it.

Whether you're traveling alone or as a group, you will enjoy hanging out in the restaurants and bars in El Nido. These are mostly located in the Town Proper, with the best ones lined up or near the beach. Check out some of our recommended dining and drinking spots in El Nido:

El Nido Boutique & Art Cafe

It's also one of the leading establishments that serve craft beer from Palaweno Brewery, a local brewery based in the capital Puerto Princesa.

Squidos Sports Bar

Craving for seafood in El Nido? Get a table at Squidos Sports Ba where they serve fresh seafood in big servings. Their house specialty is the stuffed squid. The mixed seafood platter is a must-try too!

Trattoria Altrove

Dubbed to be the best pizza place in El Nido, this restaurant has already made a name for itself. More and more travelers are discovering this gem that serves brick oven pizza. Don’t miss their Pancetta Con Tartufo (truffle bacon pizza) and Gamberreti Aglio Olio paired with a chilled bottle of wine.

Another exciting addition in the local dining and beer scene is this Ukrainian nano-brewery established in El Nido in 2017. They serve Cadlao IPA, and Pale Ale brewed for the tropical climate along with Ukrainian beer chow like mussels and shrimp dumplings with pesto.

Practical Information and Tips

Before you jet off to El Nido, take note of these helpful travel tips for a hassle-free adventure. Find out what the mode of payment is if credit cards are accepted, and what languages are spoken by the locals.

Currency

Make sure to bring enough cash in Philippine Peso (PHP). There's one ATM in the Town Proper, but there's no assurance that it will be online all the time during your trip. It's best to withdraw or exchange enough money while you're in bigger cities like Manila.

Some establishments like luxury hotels and high-end restaurants, accept credit cards, but again, it's better to bring enough cash.

Language

The locals of El Nido speak Filipino, Cuyonon, and other varieties of Visayan languages. The majority of locals, especially in tourist areas, can speak and understand basic English.

El Nido is best enjoyed when you're not in a rush. Unless you're flying directly to El Nido, a day trip isn't possible. Most first-time visitors allot at least four days for El Nido considering the travel time from Puerto Princesa and back.

Visit El Nido, Palawan.

When you visit El Nido, you will see the various 30+ islands with beautiful beaches with very fine white sand and unique rock formations. Out of 100 tourists, 70% are Europians. It should be the No.1 tourist destination in the Philippines.

It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. El Nido itself is a charming village hidden between hills and the ocean. There is something really genuine about it, as tourism industry is relatively new here. Nevertheless, there is everything you might need here: hotels of all levels, restaurants and cafes, tourist shops, travel agencies. The village is small and I assume can be too crowded in high season. In June it wasn't. There are 3 tours offered - A, B, C. We've been to C and B. C means a lot of swimming and snorkeling and island hopping, secret beaches. B includes the famous snake island. They are really different so better go on several. Anyway there's not much else to do except the tours. They take most of the day and include great lunch of rice, vegetables, grilled fish and meet, fruits. There is also a very nice beach near - Los Cabanas. It takes 15 minutes of tricycle ride or 40 minutes of walking there. We spent there 3 days and it was more than enough for us. Better transfer to Coron or some other place on Palawan.

Beautiful small small islands with great uppurtunities for diving and snorkling. Hotels we stayed are not listed on the Trip Advisor but they were amzing experiences.

Number 1 must see/visit place in the Philippines! If you visit this place, it will leave you speechless by its wonder. From Puerto Princesa, you have to travel 5hours via Van (500php) to El Nido and 5min tricycle (50php) ride to El Nido Town/Proper wherein a lot of accommodations, restaurants, and souvenir shops are waiting for you. Island Hopping is the main activity in this place. Beach near the hotels and inns is not that good so you really have to do the Island Hopping to experience the "Heaven on Earth" feeling. Since beach in El Nido Town doesn't have a crystal clear water and white-powdery sand because it's the landing/pick-up area of the boats for Island Hopping, expensive beachfront hotel is not recommended. You can stay in some inns that offer budget rooms. Cheapest is 300php. I recommend Northern Hope Inn. They have their budget room that costs 800php/night only. It's an AC room with Private Bathroom; a very comfortable and clean room. There are lots of restaurant in El Nido Town but I recommend SeaSlugs. It's the most famous restaurant there. They offer fantastic and delicious variety of foods and fresh sea foods. There are 5 types of Island Hopping in El Nido: Tour A (1,200php), Tour B (1,300php), Tour C (1,400php), Tour D (1,200php), and Tour E (or the Inland Tour; 1,500php rent of tricycle for the whole day). 5 islands to visit for each tour and different islands for each tour package. Tour A and C are the famous and most visited. Each tour includes buffet lunch and the prices above are per head (except tour E) and shared group tour or you will be joined to other group during the tour. But they also offer private tour and a combination tour. There are lots of travel agency that offers island hopping tour. You have a lot of choices there in the town. But I highly recommend Northern Hope Tours. The owner is so nice as well as their staffs. They also give unbelievable discount that marks to all of their customers. Northern Hope Tours arranged our fantastic Tours, Van Transfer (PP-EN-PP), and Accomodation. Here's the contact number: Ate Nerizza (owner) - 0927735221 and Ate Erika (receptionist) - 09063768608 You will not regret your stay in El Nido if you'll allow Northern Hope to arrange your Tours. Also, enjoy their yummy foods during the Island Hopping. 4-5 days is the best duration of stay for you to enjoy everything in El Nido. But if you only have short time, 3 days will do. Trekking to Taraw Cliff is a must for me so you can see the beautiful town of El Nido in a different perspective; a panoramic view of the small yet beautiful town of El Nido at the top. So, you can say that "You're at the Top of El Nido". It's a breathless feeling at the top. Visiting Nacpan Beach/Twin Beach is also a must for me. By the way, it's our favorite attraction in El Nido. Its very looooong, white. and beautiful coastline will shock you. An hour tricycle ride from El Nido Proper is worth it once you've reached this paradise. It will make you feel that you don't want to leave that place and stay there for the rest of your life. Haha. It may sound exaggerated but that's what we felt. All in all, I have nothing to say but everything in El Nido is Magical.

If you ever stay in Palawan via Puerto Princesa, make sure to take the trip to El Nido! Nothing is better than taking the island hopping tour. The 5-6 hour van ride did not matter at all. El Nido is Beautiful!

Believe the hype. El Nido, Palawan is literally heaven on earth. I am sure that much has already been said about its beaches, its lagoons, and its warm waters. All of them deserve the superlatives written about them. There are affordable packaged tours that could take you island hopping. At a cost of Ph 1,500/person (roughly USD 35), you can explore 6 breathtaking islands with various caves, inlets, lagoons and such. My friends and I traveled to El Nido to attend a dear friend's wedding. I cannot imagine a more perfect backdrop to cement two people's love than this place. It is one of the most beautiful weddings I have had the pleasure of going to. We pretty much made The Beach Shack in Corong-Corong Beach our Ground Zero. Their food and drinks are amazing. The tourists flocking the place are chill, charming and warm - it's the El Nido effect. While there are other places in the world that offers cerulean waters and awe-inducing limestone formations, I am certain that only El Nido has the chill, charm and warmth that is distinctly Filipino. This little piece of heaven on earth definitely lived up to its hype.
