The Never-Ending Journey

travel never ends

With the world in such turmoil, have you ever found yourself saying, ‘Stop the world, I want to get off?’  Sometimes the challenges that life presents seem too hard to bear and we yearn for peace and a life free from strife.  And yet, there are so many people who are resigned to the choices they make, not realising they can actually make other choices, or simply don’t want to make them.

The journey of Life is a little like going on a river cruise.  We leave our home and travel to where the cruise begins.  After the boat leaves the harbour, we experience all the wonderful things the cruise has to offer:  good food, good wine, different forms of entertainment to make our trip pleasant and enjoyable.  But sometimes we can experience too much of a good thing.  Without any challenges, life on board the boat—doing the same things over and over—becomes rather dull until we decide what we really want to experience along the way.  When the boat moors at different harbours, we leave the comfort of the boat to experience what we have chosen and planned.  At the end of each day, we climb back on board and discuss our experiences with other passengers or have a good rest, gearing ourselves up for the next set of adventures on the following day.

In our individual lives it’s much the same.  We come to the planet Earth from our spiritual home on higher planes to experience a different dimension and all it has to offer.  There is the need to grow in knowledge and wisdom through experiences on the physical plane, and so we make prior arrangements to take up a life that will help us achieve our spiritual goals.  We then incarnate into a baby’s body, grow up, and meet the challenges we have decided upon prior to incarnation.  When all is done, we return ‘home’ to assess what was achieved in the past lifetime and what further work is required in the future.  We rest and once again take up life in the Spiritual Realm, until we are ready for the next lifetime whose experiences will take us further along the path on our never-ending journey towards the full awakening of Spirit.

Before incarnation, we decide with the help of our Elders what is most needed for our spiritual development.  In the process we choose our parents, the physical environment, and all those with whom we will come into contact in order to provide the best conditions for the working out of our soul’s plans, but we are not shown the outcome of the experiences we have chosen.  The challenge of each new embodiment is to make choices at each step.  It’s like one of those books where you are given a situation to work out and have three choices as to what you will do next; each choice leads to three more choices and so on until you reach the end of the book.  And so, there are many possible outcomes of the original plan.  If we wish, we can also start again and make different choices, until we are familiar with every possible experience and can wisely decide which choice has the best outcome.

The good news is that we are on a journey that never ends until we reach enlightenment.  Life continues with unlimited opportunities to experience the results of every choice we make, until we reach a state of mastery on the physical plane.  It’s up to us as to how long our journey takes to reach full realisation; how many times we need to experience the same story until we ‘get it’ and begin to make choices that will set us free from the suffering that results from wrong choices made in ignorance.  When all experiences are mastered and we have learned to bring love to every situation in which we find ourselves, we are then free to move on to far greater experiences.

We are told that we don’t need to change the world, only our thoughts about the world, i.e. only ourselves and how we experience the world.  It’s generally not obvious that we ourselves create the events in our lives, because the effects that we cause aren’t usually visible immediately on this plane.  The results of our thoughts and actions can take days, weeks, or even years to become evident to us.  Everything we think, believe and expect is eventually reflected in our outer world.  It’s as though we are living in floating bubbles and the walls reflect our thoughts and beliefs in vivid technicolour; these colours affect our lives in varying degrees when we come into contact with each other. It’s similar to dropping a pebble in a pond that creates ripples which travel to a distant shoreline.  The ripples we create seem so real, but they are only waves triggered by thoughts that can be adjusted easily enough with a change of mind.  So instead of creating and dwelling on negative thoughts, it is far better to create waves of peace and beauty and to nurture them into reality.

It’s difficult for us to realise that we are living a ‘planned illusion’ because everything feels so solid on this plane.  But if it really were solid and set in concrete, we would not be able to change anything at all.  At every moment we are experiencing the effects of choices that were frequently based on our limited belief systems.  But we are learning that we can always make different choices and that we, as human beings, have far more potential than we realise.

In this day and age, there are those who can achieve what most of us would consider impossible.  The renowned magician, Dynamo, for example, can walk on water and translocate—be in one building and in the next minute be buildings away.  He walks vertically up walls, disappears, flies over people’s heads, causes water to move from a waterfall into a wine glass, and many other amazing feats.  (One can witness his activities on the internet).  When he walks on water to the middle of the River Thames and a police boat comes to pick him up, it’s clear that his acts are ‘real.’  It all boils down to what we believe is possible.  There’s so much more to life than we realise—so much human potential that we have yet to develop.

So, rather than wanting to stop the world to get off, let’s look forward to the amazing opportunities life has to offer and let us meet the challenges with wisdom, understanding, joyful anticipation and gratitude.  We are living in exciting times.

In 2021, I spent a blissful year traveling solo across Italy. Not just because I didn’t have a companion, but because, with international travel still largely blocked due to COVID, my country felt empty. Can you imagine Venice without the crowds? I don’t have to. I lived it. So exhilarating was my time training through the boot that when travel opened back up, and the hot spots became flooded with travelers, I said to myself: never again. From now on, I would rearrange my travels to avoid the crowds—and the headaches that come with them. I will be an off-season traveler, for life.

The waters at Borgo Santandrea on the Amalfi are warm enough for swimming in April

Aperitivo at Borgo Santandrea

The benefits of off-season travel can feel endless. Yes, of course there are fewer crowds to interrupt your flow, and steal your tables at the restaurants you want to eat at. I went to the Amalfi in April—April!—and found it heavenly. The weather was glorious—not too hot, but warm enough to swim. The staff at the then-new Borgo Santandrea were friendlier and upgrades more likely due to the time of year. And my room was spectacular. I still remember the scent of lemon flowers and fresh herbs in the terraced gardens. The views over the sky-merging sea were pure, with no yacht or boat to interrupt them. I even enjoyed a walk through the Amalfi’s narrow streets, devoid of the hundreds of clueless tourists, especially from cruise ships which populate the sea in High Summer.

Local engagement is always higher outside peak season, and for me, that is why we travel. Last year, I chose June for Patmos in Greece, which is never as crowded as it is in July or August. The island was greener and the heat more bearable. The crowds? Still tolerable. I arrived with a last-minute booked cabin on the BlueStar from Athens , all much more relaxing. I met with some of the home owners of the Chora, there to ‘open’ the houses, after long cold months, piling cushions and mattresses outside on the terraces to let them breathe in the sun. I swam every morning, and had lovely conversations with restaurant owners and locals. I loved the place so much I went back in August. Guess what? I regretted it.

Traveling in lesser expected times of year also help you to see a place in an entirely different way. Is it weird that I didn’t realize that St Moritz is not just a winter destination? With a major heat wave hitting central Europe and the UK I made my way to the Engadin Valley at the beginning of August. I checked in at the old-fashioned Suvretta House , at a reasonable price, where I was welcomed by name. Long walks through the valley, skinny dips in the clear waters of the alpine lakes, visits to interesting museums and art galleries kept me very busy. And I wore cashmere in the evenings, for the outdoor cinema. For the rest of August I was in London . And it wasn't that bad. I found it fairly easy to book my favorite restaurants , I went to see ballets at the Royal Opera House and a couple of plays at the theater. And reconnected with some good friends. A trick about cities and seasons? They are amazing in the summer, when the people who live there or normally visit, flock to the outdoors.

Eden Rock on St. Barts is open well into shoulder season.

But of course, that means that the sea is best outside of summer, too. I went to one of my lifelong loves, Capri , in September, because, yes, July and August are just too popular, too expensive, too hot. And I fell in love with it again. I stayed at La Palma, the new hotel, chic in every single detail, and I did all the things I love: early morning hikes, swimming by the Faraglioni, with no fear of being decapitated by the hundred of speed boats of High Summer, sunset spritzes at Bar Tiberio in the piazzetta, without having to queue (or beg) for a table. One October, I did St Barts . I stayed at the wonderful Eden Rock (upgraded again) and loved it. The island was not full, a paradise. One day I found myself swimming alone at Colombier Beach, with the whitest sand and the most intense turquoise sea.

As I write this in tail end of winter, I am sitting in my hotel room in Venice , the newly opened Violino d’Oro . Out of the window, the cold and misty lagoon meets my gaze. It’s marvelous. Venice in winter is magical: the fresh air, the cozy small restaurants with dimmed lights, the noise of the boats crossing. With not so many tourists, you really own the city. The joy of the off season.

Majority of independents and 'double haters' think Trump should end 2024 campaign: POLL

The voting blocs could be critical in November in the expected razor-thin race.

Former President Donald Trump's guilty verdict on all 34 counts in his hush-money trial appears to have a majority of independents and "double haters," those who have an unfavorable view of both Trump and President Joe Biden, feeling that the former president should end his bid for the White House, according to a recent ABC News/Ipsos poll -- a number that could have a ripple effect on the election in November.

Among independents, 52% said they believed Trump should end his 2024 presidential campaign and within the even more specified group of "double haters," 67% said they felt the same way, according to the ABC News/Ipsos poll published on Sunday . The poll was conducted using Ipsos' KnowledgePanel.

In an election year, the votes of independents as well as those aligned with neither candidate are highly sought after by both campaigns. The votes could make a significant impact on the 2024 presidential race that will likely be decided at the margins, especially within crucial battleground states.

Overall, 72% of Republicans, 6% of Democrats and 23% of independents have a favorable view of Trump following his conviction.

For Biden, 4% of Republicans have a favorable view of him after Trump's conviction, while 72% of Democrats and 24% of independents do.

The poll also found that 50% of Americans think Trump's verdict was correct; 27% said it was not and 23% responded that they don't know.

Almost half -- 49% -- of the country said they think Trump should end his campaign based on just the verdict, the ABC News/Ipsos poll found. One in six Republicans -- 16% -- said Trump should end his campaign because of his conviction. More than three-quarters -- 79% -- of Democrats think he should suspend his bid, according to the poll.

Another poll from Reuters/Ipsos that came out Friday tracked the immediate political fallout of the verdict.

That poll found that more than half of registered voters said the verdict does not impact their likelihood of voting for Trump, but that around one in 10 Republican voters said it makes them much or somewhat less likely to vote for him.

In the Reuters/Ipsos poll, 11% of Republicans said that the conviction would make them less likely to vote for Trump.

'bachelorette' trista sutter wasn't 'missing,' just filming new show, 'bachelorette' trista sutter was never 'missing' despite ryan's post ... just filming new show.

Trista Sutter has a perfectly good reason for being MIA from her husband and family last month -- it has nothing to do with the state of her marriage, and everything to do with her returning to reality TV.

ICYMI ... fans of the first ever 'Bachelorette' were sent into a tizzy when Trista's husband, Ryan Sutter , posted a cryptic message on social media about missing her on Mother's Day ... playing it very coy about her whereabouts.

Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.

Trista eventually resurfaced online , reuniting with her family in Mexico and giving an equally vague message about her mysterious disappearance. The whole thing was bizarre -- but now TMZ has learned exactly what was behind it.

Sources with direct knowledge tell us ... the reality TV legend wasn't "missing" after all -- instead, we're told she was filming season 3 of Fox's "Special Forces: World's Toughest Test."

For those unfamiliar with the show, 'Special Forces' takes a group of celebrities and has them undergo grueling challenges from the playbook of the U.S. military's selection process.

The show's become an opportunity for celebs to take a hard look at themselves while putting their physical and mental fortitude to the test... with "Vanderpump Rules" star Tom Sandoval , 'Bachelor' vet Nick Viall and "Dance Moms" alum JoJo Siwa all giving it a go in season 2.

This explains why Trista said she'd gone through a lot of personal growth and a journey when she resurfaced -- and Ryan played into that as well with his social media post , which was, obviously, carefully crafted to conceal the casting news.

BTW ... 'Special Forces' is going deep with Bachelor Nation, because our sources also say Ali Manno , formerly Fedotowsky, will also be on the upcoming season.

Fans of that former 'Bachelorette,' from Season 6 in 2010, might have noticed her posting lots of intense workouts in recent months -- including boxing, weight lifting and cold plunges. So, now we know why she was getting so physical.

As for whether Trista and Ali are truly 'Special Forces' material -- there's no word yet on a debut date for the new season, but it's expected sometime in the fall.
