Zurich to Buy AIG’s Travel Insurance Business for $600 Million

travel kinesiology jobs

Zurich early Wednesday said it is purchasing the global personal travel insurance business of American International Group (AIG) for $600 million.

The deal, according to Zurich, may include an additional payment if specific targets are met after the sale, which is expected to close by the end of 2024. .

Zurich called travel insurance a “priority” and said AIG’s Travel Guard business will expand its U.S. footprint as a part of Zurich’s travel insurance provider, Cover-More Group, making it a leader in the line.

“This transaction is a great strategic fit, which enhances Zurich’s existing capabilities and makes us a leading travel insurance provider across all regions,” said Cara Morton, CEO of Zurich Global Ventures. “The acquisition expands our retail customer base and aligns with our ambition to continuously enhance our offerings, while providing world-class protection during every step of our customers’ travels.”

Cover-More’s capabilities will be enhanced by AIG’s global IT platform. The deal also includes AIG’s global service centers. AIG said the transaction excludes travel coverages offered through AIG’s A&H business.

AIG CEO Peter Zaffino said the sale is “another important strategic step in positioning AIG for the future.” He said AIG will work closely with Zurich “to ensure a seamless transition for employees, customers and our global distribution partners.”

Zurich said the bolt-on should result in annual gross written premiums of about $2 billion for the new Cover-More Group.

Bank of America analysts said Zurich looks to have made a “sensible acquisition” that could increase earnings per share 1-2% after integration.

8 Great Jobs for People Who Like to Travel

Published: Jun 23, 2024 By Kate Johanns

Some of us possess wanderlust, which is a term with German origins. Quite literally, it means to have a lust for wandering. If you’re looking for a job that allows you to “see the world,” these career paths might be just the ticket.

travel jobs

1. Event planner

The hospitality industry—while rocked by the COVID-19 pandemic—is back, and someone has to plan those in-person conferences and events! An event planner helps companies design experiences that achieve strategic goals. For instance, they might plan training conferences, fundraising galas, or large meetings. The event planner needs to be able to translate a client’s ideas into a seamless, cost-effective event where attendees don’t have to think about logistics—and the planner likely will travel to do so, both for site visits and the actual events.

2. Tour guide

A wide range of tour guide jobs exist—but if you work for a company that arranges group tours, you’ll get to travel. Of course, being a tour guide means you’ll be facilitating others’ travel (which means dealing with their foibles), but you’ll likely enjoy special access to tourist sites, as well as make useful connections throughout the industry. You might be able to tack a few days on to the end of a trip.

3. Professor

Earning tenure as a professor is a highly stressful endeavor, but along the way you may be able to spend time in some interesting locations. Tenure-track professors attend many academic conferences, some of which take place abroad. They also have opportunities to teach in study abroad programs, particularly summer study abroad programs in which American professors travel with a group of students for short-term expat experiences.

4. ESL teacher

Almost 1.5 billion people speak English worldwide, and many opportunities exist for English as a second language (ESL) teachers to work in other countries. You’ll need a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate to secure a position teaching English to non-native speakers in other countries.

5. Travel nurse

Working as a travel nurse is one way to ensure you never get bored. As a travel nurse, you’ll work for a staffing agency as opposed to a specific physician or medical facility, and you’ll be placed based on need. You may find yourself securing licensure in a new state or even a new country. The good news is, if you don’t like one area of nursing, you’ll soon be on to new adventures. Travel nurses often have higher salaries than traditional RNs, but the costs of temporary housing may be greater, and your available benefits, such as health insurance, will vary by assignment and the time you take off in between.

6. Sales representative

A sales representative can expect to put in long hours on the road as they travel to visit clients, but if you like to meet new people, pursue competitive goals, and enjoy a high level of autonomy in your job, then it could be the right job for you. Typically, you’ll be assigned a territory or region to cover, so while you might not see the world, you’ll have the chance to get to know a particular area well.

7. Business consultant

If you have an MBA and work at a big consulting firm, it’s likely you’ll have the opportunity to travel and spend time meeting with clients to make presentations and do research. Of course, some of this travel has been curtailed with the ease of remote work, but you’ll still find opportunities to travel in search of client facetime.

A buyer is responsible for deciding what customers will want to purchase and securing that inventory. It’s a high-stress field—if you’re not on target with your trend-watching and can’t negotiate a good profit margin, you might not be long for the industry. But if you are successful, you’ll have the opportunity to go to market, meet with suppliers, and visit manufacturing facilities.

Now, if you really like traveling and want to go a step farther, you could consider finding a job as an expat.

10 Best Kinesiology Careers

Are you fascinated by the human body? Do you have a passion for health, fitness, and wellbeing?

If so, a kinesiology degree may be for you. Students in this major explore all aspects of human movement, taking courses in physiology, anatomy, sport psychology, motor development, and more. They develop a deep understanding of how the body's components fit together, what causes injuries, and how exercise can contribute to a healthy lifestyle. They also learn how nutrition and fitness can be used to help people function better, recover from injuries, and improve their overall wellbeing.

There are no shortage of professional opportunities available to a kinesiology graduate. Many go on to find jobs in health and wellness, recreation and leisure, or education. But because of their strong transferrable skills in communication, research, critical thinking, and time management, they can find work in a wide range of industries. Let's take a look at a few of the most common ones.

This article will be covering the following careers:

Are these careers suited to you? Our comprehensive career test measures your personality traits and interests and matches you to over 800 careers.

1. Exercise Physiologist

Exercise physiologists work with a wide variety of patients, helping them to boost their wellbeing through exercise and analysis. Their patients can range from professional skiers who are training up for the next race to people with diabetes who are seeking to improve their general health. No matter who they work with, the exercise physiologist's task is the same: assess the patient's overall wellness, then develop a personalized health plan to help them live better, stronger, and—hopefully—longer.

Exercise Physiologist

An exercise physiologist specializes in studying how the body responds and adapts to physical activity and exercise.

With their formal training in anatomy and sport psychology, as well as their strong interpersonal skills, kinesiology graduates are ideal candidates for many coaching careers. They might find themselves coaching soccer at an athletic summer camp, for example, or providing wellness advice to individual clients on a one-on-one basis. But whatever their niche, they'll enjoy the social, varied nature of this line of work, as well as the opportunity to make real, positive change in others' lives.

A coach supports and guides individuals or groups in various areas of personal or professional development.

3. Occupational Therapist

Occupational therapists are dedicated to helping people function better in daily life. What this looks like can differ significantly from patient to patient, depending on the person's specific disability, injury, or illness. Whatever the cause of the person's physical challenges, occupational therapists provide ways to lessen their impact or overcome them all together. They analyze their patients' condition, then help them develop skills and techniques to assist them at home, work, and play.

An occupational therapist (OT) works with individuals of all ages and abilities to help them participate in meaningful activities or occupations that are important to them.

4. Personal Trainer

Becoming a personal trainer is one of the most common next steps for a kinesiology graduate. These personable professionals spend their days with clients of all kinds, providing them with individualized fitness plans that help them achieve their personal wellness goals. By applying a series of targeted physical adjustments, they correct misalignment in the body—and especially within the spine. This, in turn, allows patients to increase their range of motion, ease their discomfort, and improve their overall wellbeing. Kinesiology students interested in this career will need to obtain additional training—a doctor's of chiropractic—but for right candidate, the rewards will be well worth the effort.

Chiropractor

A chiropractor specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly those affecting the spine.

6. Recreation Worker

Recreation workers literally get paid to play. These energetic professionals are found in a wide range of work settings, including summer camps, aquatic centres, nursing homes, residential care facilities, and community centres. They guide groups of clients—from kids to seniors—in recreational activities such as swimming, hiking, kayaking, dance, and archery. In addition to providing supervision and ensuring the safety of the group, they also offer tips for how to maximize the physical benefits of each activity.

Recreation Worker

A recreation worker plans, organizes, and leads recreational activities for various groups of people.

7. Massage Therapist

Although a degree in kinesiology isn't required to pursue a career in massage therapy, it can be a major asset. Great massage therapists possess a nuanced understanding of their clients' muscles, ligaments, joints, and tendons, as well as an awareness of how various kinds of movement can improve or damage the body's complex systems. Kinesiology students explore all of these topics during their studies, and also develop the people skills required to make clients feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

Techniques could include improving mobility, reducing soreness, re-establishing function to specific areas, and preventing future disabilities.

2. Cardiac Rehabilitation Specialist

2020 Median Annual Salary: $50,134  Projected Growth: 10% from 2020 to 2030

Your patients could be diagnosed with coronary artery disease, heart attack, asthma, emphysema, angina, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and other conditions. The job outlook in this career field is excellent; take your master’s degree and help people live longer and do more.

3. Athletic Trainer

2020 Median Annual Salary: $49,860 Projected Growth: 23% from 2020 to 2030

Wouldn’t it be surreal to work with the top athletes of the world? From the NBA to the NFL to the NCAA, athletic trainers play an important role in the development of athletic institutions, making sure athletes are their healthiest selves. Put your master’s in kinesiology to work by coming equipped with the knowledge of nutrition, anatomy, biology, and physiology to swing into action when an athlete needs your immediate assistance.

As an athletic trainer, you could work with an injured athlete throughout their rehab period, put preventative exercises into place for a team, keep up with a team’s injury report, and fit athletes for protective gear like braces or sleeves.

ATs at the pro level are the most visible, but the truth is, athletic trainers are needed at all levels. Elementary, middle, and high schools often use athletic trainers, as do colleges and universities. Hospitals, fitness centers, performing arts centers, physicians’ offices, and even law enforcement and military institutions employ ATs, too.

4. Strength and Conditioning Coach

2020 Median Annual Salary: $42,000 Projected Growth: 39% from 2020 to 2030

Yes, those top athletes need athletic trainers to stay injury-free, but strength and conditioning coaches make sure that they’re making their muscles stronger to prevent said injuries year-round. How do you think LeBron James has the power to jump high and dunk on opponents? Why do you think Tom Brady has lasted in the NFL for over 20 seasons? Strength and conditioning coaches motivate even the greatest athletes in the world to stay in top shape by detailing proven training methods with effective communication.

As a strength and conditioning coach, you would design and implement fitness programs, demonstrate proper technique and safety precautions, and inspire athletes to reach their full potential. Local gyms and fitness centers also need coaches; teaching a person the importance of strengthening muscles for injury prevention is vital.

5. Physical Education Teacher

2020 Median Annual Salary: $62,870 Projected Growth: 3-4% through 2028

If gym class was your favorite period throughout school, then this career is made for you. Utilize your master’s in kinesiology to pay it forward; as a sports education teacher, you’re sharing your knowledge with the children of the future. Lesson plans would include topics on physical development, health, proper nutrition, and the importance of teamwork in sports.

You’d be at the helm of keeping young minds healthy and their bodies active. Your passion for health, fitness, and kids will come into play as a P.E. teacher. At the elementary level, teachers work with children to improve their coordination and plant the seed for a love of physical activity. Secondary and high school levels allow students to expand their horizons of sports; classes typically include basketball and soccer but can also introduce diverse activities such as rock climbing, ultimate frisbee, dance, and aerobics.

Fitness testing and monitoring your student’s progress is an important role of the job. In addition to your master’s degree, you also need to obtain a teaching credential or certificate to be a P.E. teacher.

There are incredible benefits to providing kids with a break from the school day to partake in physical activity. According to the CDC, P.E. builds strong bones, reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression, and begins reducing the risk of developing health conditions such as Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. As a physical education teacher, you play a crucial role in a child’s life by bridging the gap between school and health; you educate students on how to take care of their bodies and set them up for a healthy lifestyle well into adulthood.

6. Sports Manager and Sports Administration

2020 Median Annual Salary: $102,070 Projected Growth: 8% from 2020 to 2030

Sports are rooted in health and fitness, but it’s also a business. As a sports manager or sports admin, you’d take care of all the business aspects of sports and recreation, including facility management, promotions and marketing, and event management. You’d be needed at every level of sport—high school, college, amateur, and professional.

As a sports manager, you could organize scheduling, seek endorsements, handle and negotiate contracts, be the public relations point person for the athletic team, and ensure policies and compliance rules are being met. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) noted that these professionals made an average annual salary of $90,930 in 2018, with those in management of companies and enterprises making the highest average salary that year at $109,010.

7. Athletic Director

2020 Median Annual Salary: $60,961 Projected Growth: 8% from 2020 to 2030

Athletic directors, or ADs, oversee the athletic programs at primary schools, colleges, and universities. As an AD, you’d be responsible for hiring coaches, scheduling practices and games for all sports teams, preparing the institution’s budget, promotion, compliance and facilities management—you’d be like the head coach of the athletic program.

In this leadership role, multiple people would look to you to make decisions on the overall direction of the program. Are the players following NCAA rules? Is the weight room up to safety code? Is there enough money in the travel budget? Having a strong passion for organization, planning, leadership, and upholding a solid rapport with the student-athletes is a necessity of becoming an athletic director. You’d typically work alongside principals or the school board to make sure the goals of the institution’s program are met.

8. Corporate Health and Wellness Director

2020 Median Annual Salary: $67,097 Projected Growth: 32% from 2020 to 2030

While getting your master’s in kinesiology, there are options to explore an integrative wellness concentration. As a corporate health and wellness director, you’d be responsible for the company or organization’s planning and execution of programs that center around health, safety and wellbeing. You’d be the go-to person for promotion of overall health—mental and physical wellness—of all staffers, and ultimately save your company money. At its root, integrative wellness aims to apply evidence-based practices into behavioral changes that last.

9. Sports Coach or Scout

2020 Median Annual Salary: $36,330  Projected Growth: 26% over 2020 to 2030

Coaches work with amateur or professional athletes and teach them to hone in the skills they need to succeed at their sport. Coaches must be extremely knowledgeable about their sport and must also understand the workings of the human body so they can assign workouts that will strengthen players bodies so they can excel in the sport they play.

Many coaches are aware of this knowledge through previously playing the sport at some level, but this is typically not a requirement. Many coaches also act as scouts for their teams as they are looking for the best assets that their teams need. Because there are extensive recruiting rules and requirements, scouts and coaches must be aware of the regulations and details that surround the recruitment process.

10. Occupational Therapist

2020 Median Annual Salary: $86,280 Projected Growth: 17% from 2020 to 2030

Occupational therapists work with patients who have been injured or have illnesses or disabilities. The main responsibility of an occupational therapist (OT) is to facilitate the development and rehabilitation of patients by providing occupational therapy through the use of everyday activities. OT’s are meant to assess and create patient treatment plans alongside physicians that will help their patients develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities.

Occupational therapists must be personable and patient while they work with people who are relearning things they may have previously been able to do easily. OT’s are responsible for observing and evaluating their patient’s progress so that they can develop treatment adjustments and modifications that they can then pass onto physicians, family members, and the patients themselves by the time of discharge.

In a world of high-speed living and remote jobs, earning money anywhere is possible. Travel isn’t cheap. It costs a lot of money, and working in an office does not leave much time for leisure. If you are on vacation and have seen all there is to be seen, you may look for something else to pass the time.

Remote jobs don’t have to be boring. In fact, many of them are great options for earning free or discounted travel. You just have to know how to choose which of these travel jobs is right for you.

1. Blogging

Blogging while traveling is a great way to earn some money. Your office is wherever your laptop is, so you are never tied down to one place. This can help you travel the world with just a laptop and a bit of data, which you can always find in local cafes or restaurants . It’s even better if you do travel writing, so you can combine firsthand experience with creative writing that helps others plan their travels.

<p><span>The rise of Mukbang videos, where people eat insane amounts of food while sometimes conversing with the camera, is weirdly intriguing to many and simultaneously perplexing. While it attracts massive audiences, the fascination with watching someone devour excessive quantities of food remains a mystery. Moreover, this trend raises concerns about promoting unhealthy eating habits and overindulgence.</span></p>

2. Vlogging

Similar to blogging, video blogging, also called “ vlogging ,” is a visual form of content. You can write blogs for your website but also work as a freelancer for other people’s websites. When it comes to vlogging, however, people usually vlog for their own channels. It takes more time to succeed but can also be more rewarding monetarily. All you need is a smartphone with a nice camera, or if you want to be fancy, a laptop with some video editing software like Adobe PremierePro or DaVinci Resolve.

<p>Interestingly, it seems like millennials have a better understanding of technology. Gen Z grew up with tech, but millennials have more experience with the inner workings, like troubleshooting a computer or building an HTML code. I would think the opposite would be true, but tech has become too easy for Gen Z in some ways.</p>

3. Video Commercials

This one is both fun and rewarding. If you have a smartphone with a decent camera and invest in an excellent DJI drone, you can earn some nice money on your travels. Combine this with an investment in a decent laptop and a video editing course, and you have a recipe for success. When I was on vacation in Corfu , I discovered an opportunity with their beautiful beachfront Tavernas. I packed my drone, visited a few of them on foot, and offered them my services. I scored two jobs for filming a video ad and one logo redesign job, which made me a nice profit for less than a full day of work.

4. Singing and Playing an Instrument

Singing or playing an instrument is another excellent way to earn some surprisingly good money. If you are a good singer and can play an instrument, you can always play in the city center or other popular spots. Many great talents have been discovered performing in public this way. You can also offer your skills to local restaurants or lounges if they are in need of live music or other entertainment.

<p>If you know how to cut hair, another great way to earn money is to offer free haircuts and keep profits from their tips if they decide to give you one. You only need hair clippers for this one, so you can be flexible and earn well in countries where haircuts are expensive. <em>Pro tip</em>: You can combine this with vlogging and use this as your content on your vlog to increase exposure.</p>

5. Haircuts for Tips

If you know how to cut hair, another great way to earn money is to offer free haircuts and keep profits from their tips if they decide to give you one. You only need hair clippers for this one, so you can be flexible and earn well in countries where haircuts are expensive. Pro tip : You can combine this with vlogging and use this as your content on your vlog to increase exposure.

<p><span>In a tabloid or on a gossip website, if a celebrity looks to be posing in a staged photo, they most certainly are. Stars view it as a cooperative effort that benefits all parties, and fans frequently aren’t aware that the “candid” photos were expertly staged before being made public.</span></p>

6. Exposure for Businesses

This travel job is for those with a well-developed online business. If you already have a travel blog , you can always ask restaurant owners, bar owners, hotels, and others who provide services in tourism if they would like to collaborate on a promotion on your website. The business will get exposure to your audience, and you can negotiate payment or exchanges for that promotion, like a one-night hotel stay or a free meal.

<p>This unique locale lets guests taste wine from three family-owned micro-wineries: Blacksmith Cellars, Sunset Cellars, and King Andrew Vineyard. Staff at the tasting room are wine producers and grape growers, providing expert knowledge on the local wines and the Suisun Valley wine region. The tasting list changes weekly. And guess what — you can bring picnics or snacks (but no outside drinks). Stop by La Barista Espresso for deli sandwiches on your way to the <a href="https://suisunvalleywinecoop.com/" rel="nofollow noopener">Suisun Valley Wine Co-op</a>.</p><ul> <li><strong>Blacksmith Cellars:</strong> Founded in 2003, winemaker Matt Smith crafts complex wines, distinctive varietal-driven and blended wines.</li> <li><strong>Sunset Cellars:</strong> Starting in 1997 in the garage of the Inner Sunset neighborhood in <a href="https://wealthofgeeks.com/kid-friendly-things-to-do-in-san-francisco/">San Francisco</a>, Sunset Cellars has a minimalist winemaking style and respects the grower’s efforts in the vineyards.</li> <li><strong>King Andrew Vineyard:</strong> After growing grapes in their own vineyard, Roger King and his wife Carol brought their bottled wine from small lot production to the winery. The fresh and vibrant wines are bottled with limited intervention.</li> </ul><p>Reservations are not required, but they are recommended.</p>

7. Bartending

A good barista is always a much-needed part of the crew. If you know how to mix drinks or make a killer espresso, you can always offer your services to nightclubs or cafes and earn a decent wage, plus tips.

8. Temporary Tattoos or Hair Styling

Unlike the classic tattoo industry, where laws and regulations can tie up employment approval, temporary tattoos can be done anytime, anywhere, and do not fall under any laws and regulations. There is a low risk of infection with temporary tattoos or paints, unlike classic tattoos that are created by piercing the skin. Hair braiding or wrapping is popular at beach destinations and can also be done anytime, anywhere.

9. Working on a Cruise Ship

Working on a cruise ship is more permanent, but it still fits within the scope of travel jobs. There are numerous jobs that you can do on a cruise ship, and each of those offers some nice wages. Understandably, a captain makes much more than a cabin steward, but all employees receive benefits and gratuity. You can use the time between shifts to discover beautiful cities wherever you stop.

<p>Discussions about places to visit in Montenegro tend to begin with Kotor, and it is easy to see why. Kotor packs plenty into its relatively small borders, with a proud maritime history allied to modern cafes, restaurants, and bars, plus some of the most alluring churches in this part of the world. Stop for a romantic courtyard lunch at Pržun before taking the arduous walk up to the fortress walls, where the ultimate view of the Bay of Kotor awaits.</p>
