Baltimore Travel Guide
Why you should visit baltimore.
Friendly, quirky, and just a little gritty, Baltimore draws visitors with its bustling Inner Harbor, quaint historic neighborhoods, and, of course, famous crab cakes. Favorite spots for strolling include leafy Mount Vernon, home to numerous museums; and Fell's Point, which offers some of Baltimore's best seafood.
When to Visit Baltimore
Summer is peak season for Baltimore travel, especially at kid-friendly attractions like the Maryland Zoo and the National Aquarium. Hate the heat? Skip the muggy summer months and visit in the spring or fall instead. Chilly temps make the city less appealing in winter, but it's a fine time to enjoy cultural attractions.
Average Baltimore Weather
In summer, the Baltimore forecast usually starts with the same three words: "hazy, hot, and humid." Expect highs in the 80s or 90s, with humidity that makes it feel even hotter. Spring and fall are more comfortable, with temps in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. If you visit Baltimore in winter, expect some snow, sleet, or freezing rain.

Storms Snarl Memorial Day Travel After at Least 23 Killed
The weather disrupted flights at airports from Atlanta to Boston on Monday after powerful winds and rain battered towns across the South over the weekend.
Severe Storms and Tornadoes Cause Destruction in Several States
Severe weather hit several parts of the united states over the weekend, killing more than 20 people and leaving hundreds of thousands without power..

Severe weather stretching across the Midwest and East Coast on Monday disrupted plans for millions of Americans trying to make it home after a busy weekend that was expected to break records for Memorial Day travel. The disruptions followed storms and tornadoes that killed at least 23 people in the South and left hundreds of thousands without power.
Flights at airports from Atlanta to Boston experienced ground delays and stops as severe weather, including heavy rain and potentially damaging wind and hail, moved into much of the Eastern United States on Monday afternoon and evening.
Parts of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania were under severe storm watches through late Monday, and a tornado watch was issued for an area from northern Maryland through eastern North Carolina, including Washington, D.C. Heat and more thunderstorms were forecast for Texas and the Southern Plains on Tuesday, including possible hail and strong winds.
Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration said that they had worked with the airlines to plan for the expected weather disruptions over the Memorial Day weekend. On Friday, 2.9 million people were screened at U.S. airports , the Transportation Security Administration said — a single-day record.
By midday on Monday, La Guardia Airport in New York City had reported average ground delays of 100 minutes. Flights were also delayed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the busiest in the world. And ground stops and major delays were reported or expected at airports in Chicago, Virginia, Baltimore, Washington, Philadelphia and Cleveland because of the storms, according to the F.A.A.
In Kentucky, Gov. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency on Monday morning after four people were killed over the weekend. On Monday afternoon, Gov. Beshear announced a fifth storm-related death in the state, a person who died from a heart attack while cutting fallen trees. More than 150,000 customers in the state were without power at midday after damaging winds.
Elsewhere, a tornado left at least seven people dead in North Texas, including two children ages 2 and 5. Eight people were killed in Arkansas, and two died in Oklahoma as severe storms swept through the region, flattening hundreds of buildings and blowing away homes. And severe thunderstorms in Virginia resulted in at least one fatality, officials said.
Share of customers without power
Thousands of others in the South and the Midwest were without power on Monday, according to the tracking site poweroutage.us .
Later on Monday, severe thunderstorms were expected from Texas to New York, the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center said . Flash flooding was possible from Maryland to the Catskill Mountains in New York, the Weather Service said , and tornadoes were possible in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Forecast risk of severe storms for Monday
The system was the latest to pummel the region over the past few days. Five people were killed and part of a city was obliterated in Iowa last week after a powerful tornado hit.
President Biden issued a statement of condolence to those affected by the storms, and he thanked emergency responders for their work.
“Jill and I are praying for those who tragically lost their lives as a result of devastating tornadoes that tore through Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma, leveling entire communities and leaving a path of destruction in their wake,” Mr. Biden said.
Mr. Biden said that the federal government was “ready to provide support as needed.” He noted that the Memorial Day holiday storms came just weeks after counties in the Midwest and South were recovering from severe weather.
On Sunday, severe thunderstorms in Howell County, Mo., produced hail the size of baseballs and tornadoes that downed trees and damaged homes near the town of Mountain View, said Kelsey Angle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Springfield.
In Kentucky, Governor Beshear deployed the National Guard to help state forestry workers clear downed trees and dangerous debris. He activated the state’s price-gouging statute to prevent price increases on necessary supplies, and said he believed that the state would qualify for public assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Emergency workers have reported high water, fallen trees and other dangerous conditions in about a third of Kentucky’s 120 counties, mostly in the western part of the state, Jim Gray, the Kentucky transportation secretary, said at a news conference. The storms also impacted nearly 100 state highways.
In Texas, Governor Greg Abbott s igned a severe weather disaster declaration that covered 106 counties. Officials estimate that nearly 100 people were injured over the weekend, more than 200 homes were destroyed and over 220 buildings were damaged.

Heavy rain and a risk for scattered thundershowers continues in the D.C. area but the threat of severe storms Thursday evening has largely faded.
After hours of watching for whether the storms would turn severe in the D.C. area, the possibility for damaging storms is wrapping up. Earlier severe thunderstorm watches for the region have largely been cancelled, with any remaining local watches set to expire at 9 p.m.
“The risk for severe weather is coming to an end, fairly quickly,” said WTOP meteorologist Mike Stinneford.
Earlier, Stinneford said some worried the D.C. area was in for a repeat of Wednesday, when an outbreak of tornadoes tore through Montgomery County, Maryland, toppling trees onto homes and downing power lines .
Earlier in the afternoon on Thursday, one storm in Frederick County, Maryland, sparked a brief tornado warning from the National Weather Service.
“But then the atmosphere stabilized a bit, kept a lid on any other severe weather popping up,” Stinneford said. “Even though we did have discrete thunderstorm cells moving through with some heavy rain, gusty winds, we never really saw any severe weather across the region.”
The storm quickly weakened and the weather service canceled the warning.
The forecast had previously called for potential severe weather as a cold front approached Thursday evening, destabilizing the atmosphere.
“Not everybody is going to see storms but any storms that do develop may produce damaging winds and an isolated tornado,” Stinneford said.
The showers and storms are expected to dissipate by late Thursday night. The good news? After the past few days of unsettled, tumultuous weather, Saturday’s forecast includes sunshine, pleasant temperatures and low humidity.
The evening showers and storms come after an intensifying thunderstorm along Interstate 270 hammered Gaithersburg in Montgomery County — which also bore the brunt of Wednesday’s storms — with gusty winds and heavy rain around 3:30 p.m.
Several strong supercell steamrolled their way through the D.C. region Wednesday evening, triggering a total of 22 tornado warnings by the National Weather Service — the fourth most on any day since 1986, according to 7News meteorologist Eileen Whelan.
The storms were concentrated in Montgomery County, where at least two tornadoes were believed to have touched down , downing trees and power lines, damaging several homes and injuring at least five people.
THURSDAY: Scattered showers and storms Late day clearing Highs : 83-87 Winds : Southwest 5-10 mph After a wild Wednesday evening of weather with multiple tornadoes reported and observed, calmer conditions are expected this morning before another round of potentially strong storms arrives later today. It will remain very humid with afternoon highs reaching the mid 80s, which will keep the atmosphere primed for strong storms. Today’s greatest risk is damaging winds in any storms that develop. Make sure you have a way to get alerts, so you can seek shelter if necessary. Conditions improve this evening with gradual clearing.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy Lows: 65-70 Winds: West 5-10 mph Skies will gradually clear during the overnight as temperatures fall into the 60s. Humidity levels will slowly decrease.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny Highs: 80-85 Winds: Northwest 5-10 mph We’ll round out the week with really nice weather! Plan for sunshine, low humidity and seasonably warm highs in the 80s.
UPCOMING WEEKEND: The second weekend of June is looking comfortable. Humidity levels will be low with afternoon highs in the upper 70s.

Vegas breaks temperature record as 'hazardous heat' bakes Southwest and California
If only it were true that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, at least when it comes to the weather.
Sin City reached a high of 111 degrees Thursday, making it the earliest recorded date Las Vegas has ever gotten to such a scorching temperature, the city's National Weather Service office said . But the record-setting numbers are not the sole purview of the gambling mecca, as the harshest part of summer has arrived in California and the Southwest two weeks before the season even begins.
The National Weather Service lists several large metro areas in the region as being exposed to "Max HeatRisk'' Thursday and Friday. Las Vegas is in the "extreme'' category, and Phoenix, Fresno, California, Albuquerque, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas, just below at "major.'' Las Vegas and Phoenix are predicted to surpass 110 degrees.
"Some areas of hazardous heat may persist into next week,'' the weather service's prediction center said. "Record-breaking daily high temperatures are forecast in portions of interior California, the Great Basin, and the Southwest.''
Thursday afternoon highs of over 100 degrees and even more than 110 in some areas were forecast across California, much of which was under excessive heat advisories. The weather service urged people to avoid laborious outdoor activity at the hottest times and not to leave children or pets in unattended vehicles.
"Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes,'' the weather service said.
The threats stretched across a vast swath of the West. In Utah, dangerously hot conditions with high temperatures from 104 to 108 degrees were expected Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile, parts of Nevada could see temperatures as high as 114 and 116 degrees. Southern Texas, which has been roasted by unseasonably hot conditions for weeks, is forecast to reach triple digit temperatures through the afternoon, including in El Paso and the Rio Grande Valley.
Multiple tornadoes across Midwest, mid-Atlantic; child killed in storm
At least one person was killed and several others were injured in a series of powerful storms that pummeled the Midwest and mid-Atlantic regions Wednesday, damaging homes, uprooting trees and snapping utility poles as a dayslong stretch of severe weather marches on.
Potential twisters were reported in Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio and Michigan through Wednesday afternoon and into the overnight hours, according to the National Weather Service .
A storm with winds of 90-95 mph sent a tree crashing into a home in Livonia, Michigan, 20 miles west of Detroit, killing a toddler and hospitalizing the boy’s mother and her 2-month-old infant, reported the Detroit Free Press , part of the USA TODAY Network.
Twisters ramping up: There have been a lot of tornadoes this spring. Here's why.
Storms and possible tornadoes injured at least five people in Maryland who were trapped in a home in the Gaithersburg area, about 20 miles northwest of Washington D.C., authorities said. In nearby Baltimore, multiple homes were damaged in at least one suspected twister, among more than a dozen reported in Maryland.
Connor Belak, a meteorologist at the weather service's Baltimore-Washington office, said most the damage was limited, with toppled power poles and trees being the main concerns.
What made the storms notable were the conditions that led to the formation of tornadoes throughout the mid-Atlantic, Belak said. A warm front draped across the Potomac River fueled wind shear and instability, which, when combined with remnants of an east-bound storm system, triggered the storm outbreak across Maryland, Virginia and the West Virginia border.
"This was not your run-of-the-mill severe weather event" for the mid-Atlantic, he said.
A suspected tornado tore through Frazysburg, Ohio, a small village about 60 miles east of Columbus , packing streets with debris, leaving people with minor injuries and leading local authorities to set up an emergency shelter at a local school, according to the local police department . The National Weather Service reported tornado sightings in Knox County, Ohio, but the damage isn't considered extensive, the Columbus Dispatch reported.
Severe weather in forecast for the Northeast, southern Plains, Florida
Strong storms were expected to develop across the country later Thursday, bringing heavy rain and flood concerns to the southern Plains and mid-Atlantic regions, as well as the Florida Peninsula.
Damaging gusts of 60-70 mph are forecast for western Oklahoma and the eastern Texas Panhandle, where the most intense conditions are expected, the weather service's Storm Prediction Center said. Isolated wind damage is possible from New York to the Carolinas, while central and eastern Florida faces 55-65 mph wind gusts and potentially damaging hail.
Coastal flood advisories were in effect across Baltimore and New York throughout the morning as meteorologists with the weather service warned of rising waterways and flooding across low-lying areas. The poor weather in the Northeast is forecast to mostly clear out on Friday.
"New Yorkers should expect a period of heavy rain and thunderstorms sometime late tonight through the Thursday morning commute," the city's Department of Emergency Management said on X . "This may result in minor flooding across the city, particularly in low lying and poor drainage areas. Plan ahead & expect travel delays."
'It came and went very fast'
Lisa Allen, a resident of Livonia, Michigan, said she'd been checking forecasts all day, then suddenly heard the tornado coming.
"It came on very suddenly" at about 3:30 p.m., Allen told the Detroit Free Press. "Then I said, 'I better get in the basement,' and no sooner did I – I didn't even make it to the basement – and it was over. It came and went very fast."
Allen had large tree branches down in her front yard and a trampoline flipped upside down in her backyard. She said she recalled surviving high winds at her house about 15 years ago, and "today was a little stronger."
Livonia Emergency Preparedness Director Brian Kahn confirmed on the city's website that Livonia officials did not receive any warning of the tornado's approach from the National Weather Service. The weather service referred to it as "a spin-up storm" that did not appear on radar screen with enough time to warn Livonia.
Dozens of large trees were felled in Livonia by the storm, which later swept with diminished force across metro Detroit's northern suburbs.
More than 13,000 utility customers were without power across Michigan by early afternoon, according to the USA TODAY outage tracker . The majority of outages were reported in counties throughout the southeast region of the state.
