The annual Travel Counsellors Conference is coming to Manchester and we’re opening our doors to budding entrepreneurs who are keen to set up their own travel business.

On Saturday 25 November, we’ll be hosting a special Discovery Day at the conference to give prospective franchisees an exclusive insight into the opportunities and support Travel Counsellors can offer, while giving them a taste of our flagship event which promises to be the highlight of the year! This is your chance to see the Travel Counsellors community in action.

When we say our conference is the event of the year, we really do mean it! Here are just some of the highlights from last year’s event:

The day starts at 10am with a meet-and-greet with our New Franchise team. Our friendly recruiters will be on hand to answer any questions you have about setting up your business, and will talk you through the recruitment process.

Then, you’ll be invited to listen to two inspirational guest speakers (we can’t give too much away just yet!), before taking part in our Discovery session from 1-3 pm.

The Discovery session will cover everything you need to know about being a Travel Counsellor. We’ll show you how our proven franchise business model works and give you a full overview of the tools, support and tech available to you. You’ll also hear from a Travel Counsellor who’s running a thriving business and has never looked back. Just think, it could be you delivering that talk at next year’s conference!

Travel Counsellors to host 1,750 at its biggest-ever conference

Travel Counsellors will host more than 1,750 delegates in Manchester this month for the company’s biggest-ever annual conference.

The Travel Counsellors Global Annual Conference, taking place from Friday, November 24, until Sunday, November 26, at Manchester Central Convention Complex, will be one of the largest events hosted by a travel company in the UK, the homeworking franchise said.

Steve Byrne, the company’s chief executive, said: “This year marks an important milestone for us as we’re proud to host a record number of attendees, including over 1,000 travel counsellors and their partners along with over 200 suppliers all united under our ‘One Team’ ethos.”

‘One Team’, this year’s theme, is said to underscore the “power and strength of the Travel Counsellors community”.

Across daytime conference sessions and evening events, delegates will receive updates from the company’s support team and hear insights from experts and guest speakers.

Bubbles and Brunch, a new feature in the agenda, will give agents the chance to meet gold-level colleagues, welcome new members of the franchise and speak to sponsors.

During the gala dinner on the Saturday evening, outstanding contributions will be recognised while entertainment is thrown.

The Travel Market event will showcase products and updates from supplier partners, numbering more than 200. The headline sponsors will be Silversea, Celebrity Cruises, Bedsonline, Accor Hotels, Travelsphere & Just You, Intrepid and Disney Destinations.

Travel Counsellors wants to make this year’s conference its most sustainable yet by asking guests to embrace a four-part pledge.

This includes eliminating single-use plastics, achieving carbon neutrality (by paying for emissions to be offset following the event), ensuring no waste is sent to landfill and having 15% lower like-for-like carbon emissions compared with last year’s conference.

Travel Counsellors said: “This marks just the initial step in the company’s sustainability focus for the event, with surplus food finding purpose through a donation to Open Kitchen, the adoption of rPET recycled plastic lanyards, and the implementation of a fully digital registration system.”

A seminar on sustainability will be held on the Friday, hosted by the company’s sustainability lead.

Byrne said: “Our independent business owners don’t just handle bookings. They build personal connections, crafting tailor-made travel experiences by caring more than anyone else, all empowered by our digital personal platform.

“As we gather for our global annual conference, it’s the perfect occasion to celebrate this collective success across all of our international markets after a record-breaking year, share industry insights and look forward to the incredible opportunity we have ahead of us.”

‘All In’ at the Travel Counsellors Conference

The Travel Counsellors Conference is taking place from 09 March to 10 March 2023 in the Lyrath Estate, Co. Kilkenny. This the biggest conference Travel Counsellors Ireland have had to date, with 67 of the 74 Travel Counsellors in attendance, including 18 new Travel Counsellors.

The conference started with an arrival and networking lunch, sponsored by Silversea Cruises. After lunch, Amanda Middler shared some future planning from Silversea including their new ship Silver Nova coming next year.

Cathy Burke, MD Travel Counsellors Ireland, then took to the stage to welcome everybody after being introduced through her favourite things (including her love of shoes) from Bernie Whelan, Business Development Manager TC Ireland. Cathy spoke about Travel Counsellors growing and breaking records.

Next to speak was Dave Callan, Customer Director, who spoke about Travel Counsellors as a brand mentioning that their brand is about the people. Everyone was asked to write down ‘what difference they have made in their clients lives’?

Jim Eastwood, Global Sales Director, took to the stage to speak about Travel Counsellors teams. As Travel Counsellors work for themselves, it was really interesting to hear how they can collaborate together including a buddy system, external assistants, mentorship, lead shares and team owners.

There was also some awards to hand out during the conference. Roger Barrett, Sinead Daly and Susan Hegarty are celebrating 10 years in Travel Counsellors. Katrina McMullan, Claire Maher and Sinead Lonergan have recently become Gold Travel Counsellors. The awards given in the afternoon included:

• NPS Score Leisure – Katrina McMullan
• NPS Score Corporate – Lorraine Lawless
• New Business Champion – Kathy O’Sullivan

Suzanne Rowe, MSC Cruises, presented on what’s new with MSC. MSC Cruises sponsored the dinner on the first night. Suzanne spoke about World Europa and some of the discounts they offer single occupants, senior citizens and health care workers.

Some travel trade suppliers, including sponsors of the event were in attendance on the first day to catchup with Travel Counsellors. There was a great opportunity to network, especially with the new Travel Counsellors.

Travel Counsellors UAE celebrates continued success at 2023 annual conference

The conference was followed by a glittering award ceremony

Travel Counsellors , the largest and fast-growing technology platform for travel entrepreneurs, held their annual 2023 UAE Conference at Park Hyatt Dubai on 14 September 2023.

With the theme 'Going the Extra Mile', the conference explored how Travel Counsellor's "highly relational business model" with a focus on people and caring for customers more than its competitors, had contributed to a 27% increase in sales year-on-year.

A series of internal and guest speakers joined the conference, in which Travel Counsellor business owners were officially recognised for their commitment to delivering outstanding results and experiences for their customers through demonstrating the company’s core values.

General manager Holly McCann was joined on stage by leading Dubai-based entrepreneur Donna Benton, founder of The Entertainer and CEO of The Benton Group, and Donna shared her own experience of building highly successful and impactful businesses in the region.

Social media and digital marketing expert Jessica Avedikian provided valuable insights and practical tactics.

The Travel Counsellors also enjoyed a supplier trade show with more than 40 supplier partners in attendance, including this year’s headline partners, Atmosphere Core, Adaaran Resorts, Atlantis Resorts, Park Hyatt Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority.

The conference concluded with a grand awards ceremony hosted by Virgin Radio star Kris Fade, Travel Counsellors UAE general manager Holly McCann and Travel Counsellors UK head of performance Karina Fox-Andrews.

We’ve developed a fantastic relationship with the Manchester Central Team, having held our annual conference at the venue for more than a decade; and with consistent communication via planning meetings and regular catch-ups with friendly voices at the end of the phone, we have produced some absolutely fantastic events – known for being the best in the travel industry!

Originally a one-day conference, our event has substantially grown throughout the years and Manchester Central has continually accommodated our expanding footprint. The layout of the venue is ideal for the structure of our event, with versatile spaces that allow us to host both our full-day conference and large-scale gala dinner all under the same roof. Our annual conference is always shrouded in secrecy - from the themed dinner and evening entertainment to our host of famous external speakers – and Manchester Central’s experienced team of professionals always ensure that everything remains hush-hush; facilitating our every request to assist with what can seem like a logistical nightmare.

Due to the confidential nature of the event, we’re required to vacate all 1,500 delegates from the conference before we can complete the set-up for the themed dinner and sound check up to three external acts – all within a one-hour window which is nothing more than a miracle!

Manchester Central communicated seamlessly with everyone involved to ensure that all aspects of the event were executed without a hitch. If our extremely strict logistics and rehearsal schedules are not adhered to it directly impacts the time which we can open the doors to our delegates; but the entire venue team never fail us and the evenings always go to plan!

Navigating the path to the future of travel.

45% of consumers told us that holidays are their number one spending priority.

Introduction

After what has been an unprecedented period for the travel industry, consumer demand has surged over the past year. The sector is undoubtedly basking in the glow of what was a very successful peak summer season.

In the midst of the current cost-of-living crisis, the question I’m constantly asked is whether we should expect demand for travel to remain so healthy in the year ahead. I am incredibly optimistic on that front.

Not only are our forward bookings at Travel Counsellors stronger than ever before, up more than 20% against this time last year, but this report – which explores consumers’ attitudes towards travel – reinforces our confidence in the outlook.

45% of consumers told us that holidays are their number one spending priority. More than three quarters of those surveyed told us that they plan to spend at least as much on travel next year as they did in the last 12 months, with most already planning a trip for the next six months.

We’re excited to launch our first Travel Tracker report, which explores some of the other hot topics shaping the future of our industry, including sustainable travel.

While the travel industry has changed dramatically in recent years, these research findings reinforce my strong conviction that the best is still yet to come for consumers and travel operators alike.

This inaugural Travel Counsellors Travel Tracker gathered data to help answer three critically important questions for the travel industry as we look to the year ahead.

Report methodology:

The findings of this report are drawn from independent research, commissioned by Travel Counsellors and undertaken by Censuswide.

Through Censuswide, Travel Counsellors surveyed 2,000 nationally representative UK respondents aged 16+ between 18.09.2023 – 20.09.2023 and 2,001 nationally representative UK respondents aged 16+ between 11.10.2023- 12.10.2023.

Censuswide is a member of ESOMAR – a global association and voice of the data, research and insights industry, and complies with the Market Research Society code of conduct based on the ESOMAR principles.

How do we value travel?

Our research shows there is a lot to be optimistic about for the future of the travel industry. Despite the current pressures on consumer spending, for nearly half of them, holidays are their number one spending priority in the year ahead (a figure that rose to 80% when we surveyed our own customers).

Covid-19 has transformed consumers’ approach to travel. 38% say they value holidays more than before the pandemic and nearly a quarter (23%) say they are more motivated to get out and explore the world.

29% of respondents told us their main motivation for going on holiday was to escape everyday life, making it the second most important driver behind the desire to relax and unwind. Nearly a fifth (16%) admitted they ‘live for their holidays’.

When it comes to booking a holiday almost one in ten (7%) said they decide to book a holiday after a bad day at work and a further 16% are prompted to book after hearing about their friends’ travels. 15% are inspired by seeing others’ holiday experiences on social media.

Overall, 58% of Brits have been on an international holiday in the last 12 months and on average, the data showed that consumers are planning to take two holidays abroad next year. Spain was the number one overseas destination, followed by France and Greece. Looking ahead to 2024, USA tops the travel bucket list for most consumers, followed by Australia and Italy. This sits in line with our own data which saw Spain as number one destination visited in the last 12 months, and looking ahead to summer 2024 Florida is currently taking the top spot.

Beach holidays were among the most popular holiday type last year, with nearly half (47%) of respondents selecting this option. City breaks also scored highly for nearly two fifths (39%) of respondents.

When it comes to all-time favourite holiday types, the trend continues as beaches take the top spot for half (50%) of all respondents, closely followed by city breaks (39%).

When we asked respondents to describe the perfect holiday, the top must-haves were to soak up the local culture (35%), followed by enjoying new experiences (31%).

We asked consumers what their number one spending priority over the next 12 months is.

Other top household spending priorities include:.

On average, the data revealed 1.84 holidays abroad per person in the last 12 months.

Two thirds of 25-34 year olds took more than two holidays last year compared to just under half of those aged 55+.

This age group were also the most favourable towards multi-destination holidays.

Whilst 6% of people visited the USA in the past 12 months, nearly a quarter (23%) say it tops their list as a travel destination in 2024

The role of the travel advisor?

With the industry continuing to gain momentum since travel has resumed post- pandemic, Travel Counsellors has seen a huge uptick in the number of customers that are actively seeking the expert advice and personalised service to craft the perfect holiday experience. This demand has helped to propel the business to over £800m of total transaction value on its platform in the last 12 months.

When we spoke to our own customers, two thirds of respondents said that having a Travel Counsellor made a difference in being able to find the best holiday possible, tailored to what they want. Our customers said that having someone to stay in touch if anything changes such as flights, and to ensure a smooth and easy process was hugely important to them.

’With holidays being such a priority, our research indicates that a third of people are looking to book trips 4-7 months in advance, with 1 in 3 people opting to book through a travel advisor because it saves them time.

Does sustainable travel matter to consumers?

The focus on sustainable travel has intensified in recent years. This was brough to the fore again during the summer when southern Europe suffered from a record-breaking heatwave.

But, there’s a gap between awareness and action. Our research found that nearly half of respondents are concerned about the impact of air travel on the environment, while just 13% plan to reduce it.

It was clear that attitudes differ by generation and young adults are more eco-conscious.

Nearly three quarters of 16-24-year-olds would consider sustainable travel options, and over half are willing to pay extra for a sustainable holiday compared to 41% of all adults polled.

Breaking this down even further, the average Brit is willing to spend 14% on top of the existing price to ensure their holiday is more sustainable, whereas 16-24 year olds would pay nearly a quarter more.

Travel Counsellors announce 2024 Conference!

The Travel Counsellors Conference is a big event in the Irish Travel Industry and the team in Cork have just announced the dates and venue for 2024 and are asking their Trade Business Partners to save the date.

The conference is returning to Lyrath Hotel in Kilkenny on Thursday and Friday 11th & 12th April 2024.

Bernie Whelan, Business Development Manager at Travel Counsellors Ireland says: “Following the success of 2023, and with close to full attendance from our Irish Travel Counsellors, we are delighted to be returning to Lyrath to host our 2024 Conference. More details will follow in the coming weeks.

Manchester conference for Travel Counsellors

Travel Counsellors will celebrate its 20th anniversary with its biggest conference to date.

The event, which is being held in Manchester at the city?s ?Manchester Central? convention centre from November 14-16, will include a themed Friday night welcome bash, an annual awards ceremony and gala dinner, conference sessions and a supplier Pow Wow session, where agents can meet directly with representatives from a host of tourist boards, hotels and airlines and learn more about their products and destinations.
