Excitement is building as the new TJ Hughes is set to open its doors in a new location.

The retailer has moved to Church Street in the city centre from its location on London Road after 111 years. The Church Street unit was previously home to H&M. The new shop is set to open its doors on Thursday, September 21.

The department store moved from its previous home in Audley House on London Road, which is set to be converted into flats. The London Road store closed its doors for the final time on Saturday, September 16.

Shoppers were in tears as they visited TJ Hughes' store on London Road for the final time on Saturday. Spread out over three storeys, the new store on Church Street will have beauty, fashion, home, electrical, luggage and seasonal departments.

A café will also be located on the top floor. Signs on the shop windows show a countdown which said: "Your new store opens in one day."

Another sign said: "A café will also be located on the top floor." A sign in the window of the new store reads: "Love brands? Love discount? Love your new TJ Hughes. Coming soon. Up to 70% RRP all day every day."

Company owner Anil Juneja said: “This represents an important move for us. It’s a very well-located site that’s convenient for the majority of shoppers, so it’s good for the city and good for the brand.

"And importantly, of course, it keeps our flagship store in Liverpool, which is where the whole TJ Hughes story began.”

A TJ Hughes spokesperson said: "After 111 years we are moving from London Road. We will close our doors for the final time on Saturday 16th September.

"We would like to say thank you to all our loyal customers and hope to see you in our exciting NEW city centre store from Thursday 21st September. Visit us at London Road before then to get some great clearance offers and pick up a leaflet with a voucher for 10% off on opening day in Church St."
