My husband and I had a pleasure of embarking on a lake Tahoe adventures tour during our honeymoon in September 2023 and it truly turned out to be the highlight of our weekend. Our tour guide was not only knowledgeable, but also incredibly friendly and personable. We didn't bring our phones on the tour but luckily our tour guide offered to take plenty of pictures of us capturing the beauty of our surroundings. Lake Tahoe adventures made our honeymoon unforgettable. The combination of natural beauty, a thrilling ride and expert guidance was the perfect combination for a memorable and immersive experience.

I also (which is unlike me) did not read the awful reviews prior to booking with this company. I too was cancelled 30 minutes before my scheduled Summit Snowmobile Tour as many other have mentioned they were also cancelled last minute. (This was after doing an EXTREME white knuckle drive the morning of the tour over the barely plowed Carson Ranges Spooner Summit in deep snow and ice on the 50 from Reno to make the tour pickup on time) I understand weather happens from time to time but more reputable snowmobile companies send folks out to check the condition of the trails etc in advance to try to have an idea of when they might have to shut down so that they wont call customers 30 minutes before their scheduled tour to cancel. Lesson learned...will avoid Lake Tahoe and its awful Sierra Cement and nasty Bay Area crowds in the future and stick to the vastly superior snowmobile operations in Colorado. As expensive as Snowmobiling can be I would advise others to do the same and stick with Colorado (or if you have no choice but to snowmobile in California perhaps choose one of the 2 reputable operations down in Mammoth) for snowmobiling. Colorado has much better snow and nowhere near the awful hordes of folks in the area that Tahoe has in the winter.
They didn't even make an effort to open operations that day
Let's start off with the positive, our snowmobiling experience was AMAZING! 5 stars for Brad G! He was great! Now with the issues. The customer service line is only a booking service. It was easy to schedule our appointment, that part was fine. Our shuttle never showed up to pick us up. We waited an hour. During that time, we were frantically trying to contact someone to see if they were getting us. We were given 4 different numbers to try with zero luck ever getting through. We decided to call an Uber to pick us up. We got there with 10 minutes to get checked in with incredibly rude desk staff, get our helmets, goggles, use the bathroom and get on the shuttle that never picked us up! It was very upsetting and our morning was ruined from all the stress and then scrambling. In the end, Brad made up for the chaos but the check in team didn't give a darn about us. Their response was, "well at least you made it." Part of me wants to book a private tour with Brad for my family but I'm not sure if I want to deal with the desk staff again. The snowmobiles were in great shape. You can rent snow gear if you need. Helmets are included but I think you have to rent goggles. I recommend bringing your own goggles. Theirs did not fit properly, a bit worn out. It could've been because we were the last people there and they were rushing us so we didn't have time to try them on. My whole ride, I couldn't open my eyes completely because the wind was so strong and my eyes were not protected properly. Overall, had the shuttle picked us up or if they had called to let us know we weren't getting picked up, then I believe we would've had a perfect day.
Our guide Brad with the kids. They loved him!
10/10 recommendation for the tour itself! I was able to book a weekend reservation a few days before for a later time but the day before the 1:00 pm booking opened up and was able to switch it over the phone. If you're thinking about it, just do it! We had a great time. Be prepared with snow gear and definitely bring gloves! I took off a star for the only reason of organization and scheduling. We missed the shuttle even though we were there 10 min before pick-up at Harrah's - the shuttle never passed by at the time, I am assuming it was running either early or late, either way the shuttle was not there at 11:30 am. Front desk did not answer so we decided to drive which was a BETTER decision anyway instead of having to wait around on others to load up and such - so if you're debating between pick up or driving there, I suggest driving. Part of the missing star is not only the shuttle was not on schedule but then the bus that picks you up from Hope/Faith Valley was also late to pick us up. We heard throughout the crowd several times of the complaint as well. After riding and being out in the snow/sun, all you want to do is head back to end the day. $240 well worth it IMO - also try to befriend other couples on the ride to create a group of your own; smaller groups = MORE fun.
"Secret Photo Op" according to the tour guide but other veterans said they've stopped by here during the past - not so secret lol
Highlight of our winter Tahoe trip HANDS DOWN. I didn't expect this to be as utterly awesome as it was. Did a tandem excursion on a snowmobile and it was breathtaking! Honestly don't think it's worth paying for two separate ones as we took turns but regardless the views were just phenomenal.
I booked the snowmobile tour for 12/1/2023 and received confirmation email on 11/19/2023. The $260 was charged on my bank account on 11/18/2023. Today at 4:32 pm, I received an email from the Lake Tahoe Adventures stating reservation was cancelled. The email stated, "We are sorry to hear that you've cancelled your tour. The email confirms your cancellation". I was very furious. Because I NEVER CANCELLED THE RESERVATION. This was the second email that I received since the confirmation email. In addition, I did not get any notification stating that how I will be getting the refund. I am leaving to Lake Tahoe tomorrow, and I am spending hours to book another tour and calling my bank. I was able to book the tour with Coldstream Adventure the last minute. DO NOT BOOK A TOUR WITH THIS COMPANY OTHERWISE YOUR TRIP WILL BE CANCELLED ALLEGING THAT YOU ARE THE ONE WHO CANCELLED THE TRIP. Horrible experience!!
We were so excited to go snowmobiling for my boyfriend's birthday during our stay in Tahoe. Unfortunately they had to cancel last minute the day of our booking. It was a bummer but we were able to switch up our plans and reschedule for the next day before we left town. The following morning I called to confirm our tour was still on scheduled and the company confirmed it was. We were picked up by the shuttle and made it to what I imagine was the last pickup spot when the driver informed us the tour was cancelled and he'd be returning us back to our pickup location. By this time we had already been on the bus an hour and it was too late in the morning to try to make new plans so our day was completely wasted. I called the company and they said they will refund our money in 7-10 business days and didn't offer any type of apology or anything to make up for two cancellations and our precious vacation time wasted. At minimum they should process our refund immediately, apologize for the multiple inconveniences, and offer a coupon or discount on a future tour. We will not try to book with the company on our future Tahoe trips due to their complete lack of customer service.
Do NOT set with them nothing They are big scam and the snowmobile old old This company are big joke . Very bad customer service.
Second time doing the summit tour but this time i paid 1,100 dollars for a tour without goggles or a visor on my helmet. Yes I, as well as two other family members in my party was pelted in the face with hard snow from passing snowmobiles. I had a swollen lip at the end of the tour and cold-red face. It's not right to run out of goggles or visors and still send customers on the tour- this is dangerous and here is a idea- at least sell glasses or goggles for a back up option in that you run out of rental gear
If I could give zero star I would do We place for reservations for 9 people 3 week ahead and they cancel us one hour before without any reason No one to talk with very bad customer service This place is completely scam and I should listen to the other bad reviews here bc they do the same thing for a lot of other people

When you live in the high desert, one thing you notice is that we definitely don’t lack dirt roads. With so many miles of beautiful landscape to discover in Reno Tahoe, roads had to be forged to see hidden gems (respectfully, of course). Reno Tahoe is the perfect location to put your car in 4-wheel-drive, unload your ATV or dirt bike and leave a cloud of dust behind. There’s really no limit to what you’ll discover. From breathtaking views to hidden natural hot springs, off-roading in Reno, Lake Tahoe and the surrounding public lands truly are a world apart.
Being an off-roading mecca, it’s no surprise we’re also a part of the nationally-televised Lucas Off Road Racing Series, where spectators watch all of the high-flying action from their seats in the grandstands. This family-friendly event takes place each July at Wild West Motorsports Park, east of Reno, and is a must-see with an exciting midway, delicious food and drinks and of course, some of the best off-roading action around.
The best part of off-roading in Reno and Tahoe is the feeling of freedom to go where ever you want, whenever you want, but we thought we’d share a few of our favorite Reno Tahoe off-road and ATV trails below to get you started, and then you can take the trails by the horns from there.
Reno Off-Road Trails & Lake Tahoe Off-Road Trails
Hunter lake.
The Hunter Lake off-road trail in Reno is a 30-mile loop that takes you from Boomtown up and over a portion of the Toiyabe National Forest, with a total elevation gain of around 3,500 vertical feet. The ride is a combination of maintained fire roads with a descent on a very rugged (barely passable) road with some big, fast hits. The route takes you past Big Meadow to Hunter Lake, then back down to Reno. If you want to get a real feel for the Sierras and how beautiful the basin really is, this is the trail for you.
Peavine Mountain
Numerous trails cover Peavine Mountain’s high-desert terrain , which is a popular spot for Reno off-roading, especially since the trails are easily accessible from the city limits. The most highly trafficked loop is about 4 miles long and takes you up steep trails to a scenic plateau. Be sure to watch out for mountain bikers or hikers in this diverse, multi-use area.
Old Geiger Grade Toll Road
On your way to or from Virginia City from Reno, ditch the paved highway and take the Old Geiger Grade Toll Road , a 3-mile long twisty, scenic, all dirt road off of Geiger Grade. Off-road driving is sure to be a thrill as you are looking out over scenic views of Reno and the surrounding areas. The trail is also frequently used by equestrians and hikers, so watch for horseback riders and dogs.
Jumbo Grade Trail
If you are looking for some great off-road driving near Reno, Jumbo Grade Trail is a fun 14-mile loop trail located near Washoe Valley that offers incredible views of the valley. This area is perfect for ATVs, dirt bikes, 4x4s and more.
Ophir Grade Trail
This fun 12-mile point-to-point trail is perfect for any level of off-road driver or dirt biker, as it offers moderate terrain with a few technical areas to navigate. Ophir Grade Trail has some of the best off-roading in Northern Nevada as you make your way from Virginia City to Washoe Lake.
Moon Rocks (Hungry Valley Recreation Area)
Officially called the Hungry Valley Recreation Area but better known by locals as Moon Rocks , this OHV area north of Sparks off of Pyramid Highway has giant granite formations and miles of trails for dirt bikes, UTVs, side-by-sides, high-clearance rock crawlers and more to explore. The landscape is truly other-worldly, with its mix of desert landscape and granite rocks.
Genoa Peak Road
Genoa Peak Road , located near Zephyr Cove, offers amazing off-roading and dirt biking in the Lake Tahoe area. This 10-mile point-to-point trail mostly attracts off-roaders with rougher terrain and a few steep sections, so it is recommended to only be used seasonally from May until November.
Sand Mountain Recreation Area
It doesn’t get much more off-road than Sand Mountain Recreation Area . This recreation area, located about an hour and a half from Reno, has almost 4,800 acres designated as an OHV site. It’s hard to miss the 600-foot-tall sand dune that stretches 3.5 miles long and a mile wide, and it’s a paradise for off-road enthusiasts.
Riding Responsibly on Public Land
With an abundance of public land in Nevada, there really is an endless number of roads available to put a little mud on your tires, but half the fun is finding your own path. Before hitting the off-road trails around Tahoe and Reno, make sure to follow the rules of the (off) road and keep these safety tips in mind:
- Ride in groups
- Wear a helmet and other personal protective equipment
- Know the area and stay on established roads
- Pack it in, pack it out
To learn more about riding smart and off-roading areas in Northern Nevada, visit the Nevada Off-Highway Vehicles Program website .
Reno Tahoe Off-Road & ATV Rentals
If you are in the mood for an exhilarating way to explore, check out ATV rentals in the Reno Tahoe area or even better, take an ATV tour. Sierra Adventures offers seasonal ATV tours departing from Reno which explore the Sierra Valley and the forests around Lake Tahoe.
If you’re looking for ATV rentals in the Reno area, check out Nevada Adventure Rentals. Equipped with a selection of rental gear, Nevada Adventure Rentals is ideal for your next outdoor adventure. If you’re looking for year-round rentals, check out Tahoe Dirt Bikes . With a selection of snow bikes, dune buggies and dirt bikes for off-road fun throughout the summer and winter months, Tahoe Dirt Bikes is perfect for the adventure seeker that doesn’t want to stay in when the temperatures drop. ATV and off-road rentals are also offered by Full Access Tahoe , based in South Lake Tahoe. Get out there and enjoy the beauty of the Tahoe backcountry with their selection of ATV/UTV rentals.
There is nothing is better than cruising through the Nevada high desert on four wheels, so be sure to check out off-roading in Reno Tahoe.
