Here's our Star Trek streaming guide, so you know where to go boldly where you've never gone before... Without leaving your sofa. We've come up with this Star Trek streaming guide because since the first ever episode aired back in 1966, there's been  a huge number of additions into the franchise.

Star Trek is currently in a bit of a purple patch for content as Paramount Plus , which is the home of all things Star Trek, is responsible for several new shows in recent years. But, it's not just new content, you'll also find where to stream the classics both movies and TV series below.

Before, Star Trek content was scattered all around different streaming services and searching for what you wanted to watch could feel like hunting for a cloaked Bird of Prey. However, these days you're able to stream all Star Trek content out there on Paramount Plus. However, we do have round-ups of the best sci-fi movies and TV shows on Netflix , Disney Plus and Amazon if you want to check them out.

You can also check out our take on the Star Trek movies, ranked so you know which movies to beam up onto your device. While Paramount Plus has everything Star Trek out there, you can find the odd bit of content on other platforms. So, below you'll find where you can watch what, regardless of where you're based, in our Star Trek streaming guide.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

In the first of over a dozen Star Trek movies, 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture doesn't mirror any of the installments that would follow. It's slow, meditative pacing harkens more towards Stanley Kubrick 's masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey than any of the more action-packed Star Trek sequels we would see in its wake. Suffice to say, you either like it or you don't. Personally, I find it to be a bit of a snooze, but I can see the appeal. There's no denying that the filmmakers behind this first cinematic journey took full advantage of their cinematic potential, filling the frame with long, lingering shots of the Enterprise floating throughout the recesses of space. Be warned, though: it's definitely a slow-burn. And oddly hyper-sexual too.

Stream it on Hulu. Available on Amazon Prime until June 30th. Available on IMDb TV on July 1st.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)

For many Star Trek fans, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is the greatest Star Trek movie ever made . And it's hard to argue otherwise, unless the newest Star Trek blockbuster really knocks our space socks off. Director Nicholas Meyer applied old-fashioned story characteristics to the futuristic franchise, resulting in a Moby Dick -esque tale where Captain James T. Kirk and the rest of the USS Enterprise crew square off against the tyrant Khan (Ricardo Montalban), who escapes exile to exact revenge on Kirk while also trying to acquire a powerful device called Genesis. A smartly-crafted tale filled with character-driven stakes, thoughtful themes, and many thrilling moments, Star Trek has never topped this sequel in its cinematic history.

Stream it on Hulu . Available on Amazon Prime until June 30th.

The Cast of Star Trek III: The Search For Spock

Star Trek III: The Search For Spock (1984)

Though it doesn't reach the same heights as The Wrath of Khan , notably in how it downplays the meaningfulness of Spock's ultimate sacrifice in the movie's emotional climax, Star Trek III: The Search For Spock finds the Enterprise hoping to bring dear Spock back to life whenever his spirit is found lodged inside the mind of Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy (DeForest Kelley). It's an admittedly forced effort to put the popular Vulcan back into the fold, but who could complain about that? In addition to reprising his role of Spock, Leonard Nimoy also jumps into the director's chair for this third Star Trek motion picture, and he proves to be a commendable captain. It's not the best Star Trek movie, but it's an enjoyable, emotional sequel with a big heart.

William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy - Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986)

In a curious twist, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home progresses the popular science-fiction franchise by pushing the series back. Specifically, it finds the USS Enterprise going back in time to (then) modern-day San Fransisco to protect the now-extinct humpback whales. Sure enough, in their time-traveling efforts, they find themselves to be fish-out-of-water in a primitive society they don't understand.

It's an undeniably goofy idea for a Star Trek movie, but it works! The premise is fresh and surprisingly funny, proving director Leonard Nimoy's surprising knack for comedy (something he'd continue to explore whenever he took over the reins for 1987's Three Men and a Baby ) and an environmentally-cautious storyline that's unexpectedly rousing and affecting. It's also one of the more accessible Star Trek sequels, resulting in one of the most inspired, entertaining Star Trek blockbusters.

Stream it on IMDb TV , CBS All Access and Popcorn Flix .

Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner, DeForest Kelley - Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989)

While Captain James T. Kirk was a noble commander of the USS Enterprise, the leadership skills of William Shatner , the singular actor who played him, left something to be desired in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. While perhaps not quite as bad as its reputation suggests (at least in my humble opinion), it's hard to call this heavily-panned sequel a shining moment for the series. Shatner's inexperience as a director is apparent, thus resulting in a clumsy, thematically skewed sequel in which the Enterprise is in search of God at the center of the galaxy, and it lacks the charm, smarts, and winning appeal of the better Star Trek movies that proceeded it. Thankfully, The Final Frontier wasn't the last time we saw the Enterprise.

The Cast of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991)

With director Nicholas Meyer back in the director's chair, the Enterprise was steered back in the right direction with Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, giving the long-running TV/cinematic series a proper send-off for its thoughtful band of space cruisers. The story, which follows Enterprise racing to stop conspirators with a militaristic agenda, is appropriately thematic, though it's best seen as a lovely, melancholy goodbye to the crew we know and love. Particularly since Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry dying shortly before its premiere, there's an undeniable somberness to this sequel. While Captain Kirk's story continued with Generations , this is the last time we see the original Enterprise crew in action. It's a poignant send-off to one of the most iconic ensembles of the past millenium.

Stream it on Hulu . Available on Amazon Prime until June 30th. Available on IMDb TV on July 1st.

Patrick Stewart, William Shatner - Star Trek: Generations

Star Trek: Generations (1994)

In theory, this cinematic torch passing between the Star Trek Enterprise and Star Trek: The Next Generation 's crew should've been monumental. Alas, this crossover film became one of the weaker installments in the prolonged sci-fi series, despite touching performances from William Shatner (in his final portrayal of Kirk) and Patrick Stewart . As we watch these two captains join forces to stop a villain (Malcolm McDowell) from destroying the solar system, we get what could've been a thoughtful, poignant reflection on legacies and what it means to sacrifice everything for the common good of humanity and beyond.

Alas, the material doesn't match the potential, resulting in an underwhelming conclusion to Kirk's story. Perhaps that's what makes it worse. Knowing it's his last adventure, this otherwise forgettable sequel doesn't match his indelible legacy.

Stream it on Crackle, Tubi, CBS All Access and Popcorn Flix. Available on IMDb TV on July 1st.

Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner - Star Trek: First Contact

Star Trek: First Contact (1996)

For many Star Trek fans, Star Trek: First Contact is the best TNG movie. It's understandable why many people feel this way. In this thrilling sequel, which sees the crew going back to the 21st century to stop the Borg from conquering Earth, you get elements of both Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home, resulting in an exciting, appropriately cinematic continuation for The Next Generation . It's easily the most critically and commercially successful of the spin-off series' films, and for some folks, it's considered one of the best Star Trek movies. It also, as it happens, harkens back to Moby Dick .

Stream It on IMDb TV , CBS All Access and Popcorn Flix.

Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner - Star Trek: Insurrection

Star Trek: Insurrection (1998)

While the reception to Star Trek: Insurrection is mixed among Star Trek fans, it was a quaint return-to-form (in so much as a Star Trek blockbuster can be "quaint") to the more ideological roots of the sci-fi franchise. We follow the Starfleet crew as they discover a conspiracy with the species Son'a to steal a peaceful planet called Ba'ku, known for its rejuvenating properties. Once again, environmentalism factors into the fold, and the plot is admittedly silly. Insurrection is also distinctly restrained, notably compared to First Contact , which was also directed by Jonathan Frakes . But its smaller, more insulated plot is pretty charming. Its focus on character and themes in the midst of action feels like an extension of the show in a way the other, more bombastic TNG movies didn't.

Tom Hardy, Patrick Stewart - Star Trek: Nemesis

Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)

In what would be the final Star Trek movie for The Next Generation crew and the last Star Trek movie until 2009, Star Trek: Nemesis finds Captain Jean-Luc Picard in a personal battle with Shinzon ( Tom Hardy ), an evil clone of Picard, who threatens to take control of the Roman Star Empire. It's a silly premise, but one that's notably more high-concept than Insurrection . While it lacks the wit and sophistication of TNG 's TV run, opting for thunderous action beats instead, Nemesis does have compelling moments between Patrick Stewart and a young Hardy. While he'd get his moments to shine in better projects , Hardy's star power is undeniable in this villainous role. While it was a critical/commercial disappointment, it paved the way for Hardy's future A-list status.

Stream it on Crackle , Tubi, CBS All Access and Popcorn Flix. Available on IMDb TV on July 1st.

Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine - Star Trek (2009)

Star Trek (2009)

Following an underwhelming series of Star Trek movies, J.J. Abrams ' vibrant, exuberant 2009 reboot, Star Trek, felt like the kick in the pants that the franchise needed . While other attempts at reinventing/retooling other popular IPs have often fell flat, this energetic, immensely entertaining new origin story of the original USS enterprise crew was benefitted by Abrams' sharp eye for action, an enjoyably fresh perspective on these popular characters, and sharp performances from our young cast, notably Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Bones, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, John Cho as Sulu, Anton Yelchin as Chekov, and Simon Pegg as Scotty.

Many reboots fail to balance between honoring their elders and doing something uniquely fun, but Abrams figured it out fabulously, resulting in a refreshing new take.

Stream it on FuboTV.

Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine - Star Trek Into Darkness

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

While certainly among the most contested Star Trek movies, particularly in how it rips off Wrath of Khan in shameless fashion, there are several thrills to be found in Star Trek Into Darkness , J.J. Abrams' follow-up to his massive 2009 blockbuster. In this sequel, the new USS Enterprise crew battle a former Starfleet-turned-terrorist who goes by the name "John Harrison" (Benedict Cumberbatch) — although (as you've probably heard), that's not his real name.

The pacing is fast and relentless, which helps smooth out some wonkier story beats, though fans who disparaged the whiz-bang-buck style of Star Trek (2009) were understandably more critical of this action-packed sequel. Nevertheless, it's not without its emotional moments, particularly Leonard Nimoy playing Spock for the last time.

Stream it on FX Now .

Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine - Star Trek Beyond

Star Trek Beyond (2016)

2016's Star Trek Beyond didn't get the same notice as its action-packed predecessors, ultimately underperforming at the box office. But for many Star Trek fans, it was a welcomed return-to-form. Directed by Justin Fix ( Fast Five ) and co-written by Simon Pegg , Star Trek Beyond follows the crew of the USS Enterprise as they explore the further recesses of space and encountering the villainous Krall (Idris Elba) who puts them to the test. Despite the high stakes, Beyond was notably less over-energized than its predecessor, returning to the more intellectually-stimulating material that made the series what it is today.

Though it didn't capture the same heights as the best installments, it was a worthwhile sequel. It was also an unexpectedly mournful goodbye to Anton Yelchin , who died shortly before its release .

Ten years after the cancellation of the original Star Trek TV series, the popularity of reruns led to a planned TV revival. Those plans shifted into what became the first-ever Star Trek movie, reuniting the original TV series cast, including William Shatner as Admiral James T. Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Spock, and DeForest Kelley as Dr. McCoy. The starship Enterprise gets a fancy upgrade, and the crew sets out on a new mission to confront a mysterious, all-powerful alien intelligence. Star Trek: The Motion Picture proved the franchise's enduring popularity, now on both the big and small screens.

Still considered by many to be the greatest Star Trek movie, The Wrath of Khan brings back one of the original TV series' most memorable villains, genetically engineered megalomaniac Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalban), returned from exile to seek revenge. Khan proves to be a worthy foe for the Enterprise crew, especially Kirk, with whom he shares an intense rivalry. The Wrath of Khan features many of Trek's most iconic lines and moments, and has been held up as the template for Trek movies going forward.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is available for digital purchase ($9.99+) and rental ($2.99+) from Amazon , iTunes , Google Play , Vudu , and other digital outlets.

Following the tragic death of Spock at the end of The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek's creators, including debut director Leonard Nimoy, spent the next movie bringing him back to life. Admiral Kirk and the Enterprise crew go on a quest to reunite Spock's soul---what the Vulcans call "katra"---with his body. Spock's katra has been merged with Dr. McCoy's mind, while his body is located on the planet terraformed by Khan at the end of the previous movie. Spock's crewmates race to revive their friend while also facing off against a crew of hostile Klingons.

Combining Star Trek's sci-fi grandeur with the 1980s trend of fish-out-of-water comedy, The Voyage Home is the most lighthearted Trek movie. Leonard Nimoy returns as director for the story of the Enterprise crew traveling back in time to 1986 San Francisco, to retrieve a humpback whale. The whale, extinct in the Enterprise's time, is needed to respond to a dangerous alien probe. Despite the plot urgency, the movie mostly focuses on the crew's misadventures in 1986, where they are confused by the technology and customs of the past.

Star William Shatner takes over as director and co-writer for an ambitious film that's often considered the low point of Star Trek movies. Shatner's vision has the Enterprise crew tracking an unhinged Vulcan named Sybok, who's revealed to be Spock's never-mentioned half-brother. Sybok commandeers a diplomatic mission so he can reach a mythical planet that he believes is the literal home of God. Pursued by a Klingon warship, the hijacked Enterprise travels to the home of the supposed deity, in a showdown that's more silly than profound.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier is streaming on  Paramount+ ($4.99+ per month after a seven-day free trial).

After the disappointing response to The Final Frontier, The Wrath of Khan director Nicholas Meyer returned to Star Trek for the final movie featuring the full cast of the original TV series. Christopher Plummer plays a Shakespeare-quoting Klingon who attempts to derail peace talks between the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets, with the crew of the Enterprise caught in the middle. With an elegiac tone and references to the ongoing Star Trek: The Next Generation TV series, The Undiscovered Country is a wistful send-off for the pioneering Trek cast.

Following the finale of the Star Trek: The Next Generation TV series, the cast led by Patrick Stewart as Capt. Jean-Luc Picard made the leap to feature films with this transitional story. Original cast members William Shatner, Walter Koenig, and James Doohan return to pass the torch, and the movie's centerpiece is a time-displaced meeting between Picard and Kirk. They're both trapped in a pocket dimension by Malcolm McDowell's Soran, a villain obsessed with evading death. The movie cements Star Trek's legacy from one generation to the next, launching a new film series.

Star Trek: Generations is streaming on  Paramount+ ($4.99+ per month after a seven-day free trial).

The second movie to feature the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast, and the first to give them the sole spotlight, First Contact is often regarded as the best Next Generation movie. It brings back one of the TV series' most popular antagonists, the cybernetic aliens known as the Borg, and also features a time-travel story sending the Enterprise crew back to the era when humans first made contact with alien races. Patrick Stewart gives one of his most commanding performances as Capt. Picard, while Alfre Woodard and James Cromwell add gravitas to the supporting cast.

The Enterprise crew is drawn into a conflict between two alien factions, the Son'a and the Ba'ku, in the second Star Trek movie directed by Next Generation cast member Jonathan Frakes. Insurrection co-stars F. Murray Abraham as its devious alien villain, who manipulates the Federation into serving his ends. Less action-oriented than First Contact, Insurrection features a romantic subplot for Capt. Picard as well as emotional arcs for various supporting characters. It emphasizes Trek's philosophical side while also delivering major plot twists.

Star Trek: Insurrection is streaming on Paramount+ ($4.99+ per month after a seven-day free trial).

The final movie starring the Next Generation cast provides closure for several major characters, including Capt. Picard. He discovers a secret clone of his named Shinzon (Tom Hardy), who leads a dangerous rebellion against the Romulan Empire that also threatens the Federation. Nemesis returns to the action focus of First Contact, giving its primary spotlight to Picard and the android Lt. Commander Data (Brent Spiner). Nemesis was a box-office failure that put an end to the series of Next Generation movies, although some of its plot elements were later picked up by the TV series Star Trek: Picard.

Ready to boldly go where no man has gone before? Dock your ship at the nearest space station, and prepare for warp speed, Star Trek fans! Here’s a handy captain’s log for determining which streaming service your favorite Star Trek films are on.

If you’ve never jumped into these, there’s a common rule that only the even-numbered movies are good in the Trek franchise. ( Wrath of Khan , Voyage Home , Undiscovered Country , and First Contact are all fun. Nemesis is the exception to the rule.)

Star Trek: The Motion Picture

When a destructive space entity is spotted approaching Earth, Admiral Kirk (William Shatner) must resume command of the Starship Enterprise. It’s up to him and his crew to intercept, examine, and hopefully stop it before it can cause any more harm.

star trek movie streaming

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

This one is often cited as the best Star Trek movie of all time! Admiral James T. Kirk is feeling old; the prospect of accompanying the Enterprise on a two-week cadet cruise is not helping to make him feel any younger. All bets are off, however, once the training cruise transforms into a life or death struggle. The hated Khan (Ricardo Montalban) has escaped from years of exile, and is preparing to harness the power of creation itself.

High stakes, fun twists, a great score from James Horner, and one of the most memorable endings in movie history help make this a must-watch!

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock

Admiral Kirk and his bridge crew embark on a mission - this time the stakes are personal: They must recover the body of their beloved comrade, Spock (Leonard Nimoy). To return to the restricted Genesis planet, however, they will have to risk their careers and steal the since-decommissioned Enterprise. Worth the price of admission if only to see Christopher Lloyd as a Klingon.

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

Definitely the funniest Trek flick. Now fugitives of the Federation for their daring rescue of Spock, Kirk and his crew begin their journey home to face justice. As they near Earth, they find it at the mercy of a mysterious alien presence whose signals are slowly destroying the planet. In a desperate attempt to answer the call of the probe, Kirk and his crew race back to the late twentieth century. The world they once knew has since turned more alien than anything they’ve encountered in the far reaches of the galaxy!

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

Captain Kirk and his crew must contend with Spock’s half brother, Sybok (Laurence Luckinbill). He has made enemies by kidnapping three diplomats and hijacking the Enterprise in his obsessive search for God. In the start of the movie, Captain Kirk climbs a mountain. Here’s a song about it.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

On the eve of retirement, Kirk and McCoy (DeForest Kelley) are charged with assassinating the Klingon High Chancellor and imprisoned. The Enterprise crew must help them escape to thwart a conspiracy aimed at sabotaging the last best hope for peace. This entry is fuses action with a murder mystery, and it’s an under-appreciated gem.

Star Trek: Generations

The first of the films to feature the crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the crew of the Enterprise-D find themselves at odds with the renegade scientist Soran (Malcolm McDowell). Only one man can help Picard stop Soran from destroying entire star systems … but he’s been dead for 78 years.

Star Trek: First Contact

The Borg, a relentless race of cyborgs, are on a direct course for Earth. Violating orders to stay away from the battle, Captain Picard and the crew of the newly-commissioned USS Enterprise E pursue the Borg back in time to prevent the invaders from changing Federation history and assimilating the galaxy.

This is the closest the Trek franchise comes to an outright action movie. Alice Krige is a great Borg Queen, and Alfre Woodard is really great acting opposite Patrick Stewart. Some have speculated that James Cromwell’s flawed visionary, Zefram Cochrane, is meant to represent Gene Roddenberry himself.

Star Trek: Insurrection

The Son’a aren’t the only ones interested in taking over the planet of the Ba’ku; Starfleet is after it too. Captain Picard and the crew of the Enterprise can see the planet for more than just its “regenerative” properties, however, and it’s soon up to them to defend not only the planet’s people - but the very ideals upon which the Federation itself was founded.

Star Trek: Nemesis

After the wedding of William Riker (Jonathan Frakes) to Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise receive a troubling message from Starfleet. A coup has resulted in the installation of a new Romulan political leader, Shinzon (Tom Hardy), who claims to seek peace with the human-backed United Federation of Planets. Once in enemy territory, the captain and his crew make a startling discovery: Shinzon is human, a slave from the Romulan sister planet of Remus, and has a secret, shocking relationship to Picard himself.

This one was not received well, and it put the Next Generation crew on ice.

Produced and directed by J.J. Abrams, this film reimagines the original cast and reboots the Star Trek universe. James Kirk (Chris Pine) is a delinquent, thrill-seeking Iowa farm boy. Spock (Zachary Quinto) is half-Vulcan, raised in a logic-based society that rejects all emotion. Bitter rivals out the gate, fiery instinct clashes with calm reason. But they’ll need to work together if they’re to lead their crew through unimaginable danger, and boldly go where no one has gone before. The young cast re-energizes the series and Michael Giacchino’s propulsive score helps the movie soar. Keep your eyes peeled for a pre-Thor Chris Hemsworth in a brief appearance as Kirk’s dad.

Star Trek Into Darkness

The crew of the Enterprise is called back home only to find the fleet detonated and the world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Star Trek Beyond

Here's Where You Can Stream Or Rent Every Star Trek Movie

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

( Welcome to Where to Watch , which provides a clear and simple answer to the question, "Hey, where can I watch this thing?" In this edition: the Star Trek franchise .)

Sometimes you look up and can't believe that a franchise has lasted for even half as long as it has. (Seriously, how many "Die Hard" movies can anyone possibly make?) Other times, the longevity and pop-cultural impact go well beyond self-explanatory, with audiences making their voices heard that there still remains a vociferous fanbase for the foreseeable future. That's the essence of "Star Trek," George Roddenberry and D.C. Fontana's idealistic and aspirational vision for the future. There's a good reason its message of hope, diversity, and unapologetic social commentary has endured for decades.

Whether you're a newcomer to the franchise or a longtime fan, the sheer amount of "Trek" available at a moment's notice can be overwhelming at times. That's where I come in. Think of me as your tour guide, walking you through all thirteen "Star Trek" movies produced thus far and where to stream or rent them.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Where to stream:  Paramount+

In "Star Trek," the future is ... beige? Okay, look, not even the immensely popular sci-fi franchise was immune from the "Little Brother Syndrome" of having "The Original Series" airing on television in syndication for as long as it did. Everyone knew that the real prestige came from the big screen, and so "The Motion Picture" misguidedly did away with its iconic color palette in favor of a more grown-up look. I can't question the instinct to play things a little safe for the first-ever cinematic venture, but thankfully this phase didn't last very long, and "The Motion Picture" did enough to justify several more (better-looking) sequels.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Where to stream: Paramount+

"Wrath of Khan" is commonly regarded as the absolute best "Trek" movie, and whoever regarded that in the first place was absolutely right. The jump in quality from movie to movie in terms of both storytelling and visual splendor is shocking, and it's worth noting that "Wrath of Khan" beat the MCU to the bunch by decades in terms of cross-media storytelling. Audiences who maybe weren't as well-versed in "The Original Series," particularly the episode "Space Speed" that featured Khan Noonien Singh's initial appearance, wouldn't have missed a beat as the movie deftly reintroduced the villain in the ultimate test of Captain James T. Kirk's abilities. If any newcomers watched "Star Trek: Into Darkness" and were just as confused as the characters when Benedict Khan-berbatch dramatically snarled out his name to a bunch of people who had never even heard of him, uh, trust me when I say both Khan and the dramatic death of a pivotal member of the crew are handled far better here.

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock

"Star Trek" has never been shy about including absolutely absurd sci-fi concepts, but I would argue that's half the fun in the first place. The mental gymnastics involved in bringing Spock back after the events of the second film don't entirely make sense, but who can deny the pleasures of watching the unparalleled friendship between Spock and Kirk reestablished after everything they went through together in the prior movies and all 79 episodes of "The Original Series." In another instance of following the grand tradition of the franchise, "The Search for Spock" also delves into the spiritual side of the universe and serves as star Leonard Nimoy's feature film directorial debut. What couldn't that man do?

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

You've probably heard about the "Star Trek" movie with time travel and all the whales before. But what might surprise you is that the "Star Trek" movie with time travel and all the whales is legitimately a blast. "The Voyage Home" finally brings the franchise's childlike love for time travel to the fore and deposits the beloved crew in a place and time entirely out of their depth: Earth in the late 20th Century. Their mission: save the whales. Once again directed by Nimoy, he fully embraces the inherent goofiness and charm of "Trek" by playing up the "fish out of water" joys of seeing such futuristic voyagers thrown back into then-contemporary times. Pavel Chekov finds himself a victim of Cold War anxiety, Scotty holds a computer mouse to his ear and says "Hello, computer," and it's all wrapped up in an extremely unsubtle environmental metaphor. This is as pure "Trek" as it gets.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

Every franchise has its dud. "The Final Frontier" is the result of a tonal mishmash, a bit of an ego trip (William Shatner takes over directing duties on this one with ... interesting results), and some really bizarre ideas as a result of a shaky script. For example, Kirk goes mountain climbing and is saved from a nasty death by Spock showing up in a pair of rocket-powered shoes. And that's in the very first scene! The rest of the plot isn't much to write home about, but as far as franchise low points go ... well, it could've been much worse. High praise, I know.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

Early "Star Trek" did much to build up Klingons as the Soviets to Starfleet's United States and "The Undiscovered Country" marks the point where Kirk's unease and mistrust towards the alien race turns into outright bigotry. It's an unexpectedly dark place to bring such a famous character, but the planned send-off for the original crew asked for high stakes to match. In their totality, the original crew would never share a scene together again, but the ending is as fitting a farewell as any fan could ask for.

Star Trek: Generations

As you can probably tell, "Star Trek Generations" is the franchise's most dour, self-serious installment yet. Okay, not really. If anything, this movie only suffers from trying too  hard to give us the crossover we've been waiting for between Jean Luc Picard from "The Next Generation" and the esteemed James T. Kirk from the originals. Its heart is in the right place, even if production difficulties and cast availability didn't quite make this one as special as it could've been. Regardless, there's an undeniable joy in seeing "The Next Generation" crew come into their own on the big screen as well as the fleeting moments that Picard and Kirk share.

Star Trek: First Contact

Despite only taking some tentative first steps towards serialization, it's impressive how much "The Next Generation" established the Borg as a terrifying force to be reckoned with. This next phase of "Trek" doesn't quite work as well for those who haven't seen the television series that gave the new crew their start in the first place, but "First Contact" mostly justifies those years of fan investment by pitting Picard & Co. against the might of the Borg Queen . Jonathan Frakes as William Ryker carries on the Nimoy tradition of pulling double-duty as actor and director, the Borg Queen chews up the scenery alongside a frazzled Data, and Picard gets a monologue to end all monologues.

Star Trek: Insurrection

Making a movie is hard, folks. It's even harder when trying to take the foundation of a beloved television series and adapt it to the big screen in a way that doesn't merely come across like an extended episode. That's the tricky pitfall that "Stark Trek: Insurrection" falls into and doesn't quite make its way out of. But at this point, the strong attachment to the cast and characters likely overrides any fans' logic-based assessments of the film's quality. We tend to be more like Kirk than Spock if you will.

Star Trek: Nemesis

In the annals of "Star Trek" history, only "Nemesis" has the distinct honor of being the one that causes viewers to point to the screen and go, "Wait, is that Tom Hardy?!" This mixed bag of a movie also shares many of the ups and downs of the previous "Generation" entries, though with the added complication of a whole host of deleted scenes and scrapped character moments that surely would've added much more heart to the proceedings. Unfortunately, plans for future sequels would eventually be put on hold and the franchise's big-screen future seemed uncertain ... that is until J.J. Abrams came along.

Star Trek (2009)

Where to stream: Netflix

What's better than a reboot/prequel? Why, a reboot/prequel that bends over backward to avoid erasing prior continuity, thereby establishing a whole new alternate universe in which new stories can be told without affecting what came before, of course! In all honesty, this goofy approach to revitalizing a franchise is as quintessentially "Trek" as it gets. With a steady dose of time travel and wormhole shenanigans, J.J. Abrams took the series in a much more action-oriented direction, perfectly casting a new crew to embody the familiar roles of the original cast and introducing a new generation of fans to the series. It's not without its fair share of the typical style-over-substance problems that plague many a modern blockbuster, but it gets the job done well enough and sets the new movies up for a clean slate of endless possibilities, truly going where no one had gone before.

... and then the next movie happened.

Star Trek Into Darkness

Folks, I can't even pretend to remain objective about this one. Many find "Star Trek Into Darkness" enjoyable as an edgy, darker-toned addition to the franchise. Others find it to be an unforgivable blight on the classic series that should be stripped from canon altogether. I'm more in the camp that the performances of this cast have never been better and that Abrams' direction has rarely been slicker, but almost every instinct on a script level couldn't be more wrongheaded. It's simply a waste that rather than following up on his own previous movie and jumping headfirst into original stories, Abrams essentially remakes the most famous entry in "Trek" lore but does so with very little understanding of what worked in "Wrath of Khan" and why. It's a slog, but an eminently rewatchable one. If that makes any sense.

Star Trek Beyond

Where to stream:  Hulu, Paramount+

Now,  this is podracing!

Whoa, sorry, wrong franchise.

Now, this is what I'm talkin' about! "Star Trek" needed something of a course correction after "Into Darkness," and director Justin Lin couldn't have been better suited for the job with "Beyond." For my money, this is the franchise's most mature, philosophical, and forward-looking film that perfectly marries the idea of an extended "The Original Series" episode with the demands of blockbuster filmmaking. Chris Pine's Kirk has never felt more lived-in and human, his bond with Spock and Bones has never been more believable, and the sheer exhaustion everyone feels with being stuck in space for such a prolonged amount of time reflects an intriguing and bold idea that few "Trek" stories have explored before. It's an extremely worthy sequel and one that feels profoundly bittersweet amid the passing of both Anton Yelchin and Leonard Nimoy. "Beyond" is a minor miracle of a film and one that should've spawned several more adventures with this cast by now. Maybe in an alternate universe , yeah?

Insider Today

The "Star Trek" franchise continues to boldly go where no man has gone before. From "The Original Series" in 1966 to the spin-offs, sequels, and prequels of today, "Star Trek" has been a pop culture mainstay for more than 50 years.

The franchise focuses on the adventures of various Starfleet crew members as they travel throughout the universe. And beneath the series' fun escapism, "Star Trek" movies and shows have used science fiction to comment on issues like racism, sexism, human rights, and politics. By exploring new worlds in "The Original Series," creator Gene Roddenberry was able to tell allegorical stories with thoughtful themes that relate to our own experiences.

In many ways, "Star Trek" has always highlighted diverse storytelling. In fact, one of the first interracial kisses ever aired on TV was in an episode of "The Original Series." This mix of sci-fi entertainment and social commentary is still present in the latest "Star Trek" installments, most of which air as Paramount Plus originals. "Star Trek: Discovery" introduced multiple queer leads, including the first transgender and non-binary characters in the "Star Trek" universe.

If you're a new fan looking to explore the world of "Star Trek" for the first time, or you're a devoted Trekkie who just wants to watch it all over again, we've compiled a list of every "Star Trek" movie and TV show, along with details on where you can stream them all right now.

Where to watch 'Star Trek' shows

There are 12 "Star Trek" shows in total, including nine live-action series and three animated shows. All of the shows are available on Paramount Plus, and many are also available to buy or rent from video-on-demand (VOD) services. One series, "Deep Space Nine," is also streaming on Netflix.

Where to watch 'Star Trek' movies

The "Star Trek" franchise includes 13 movies from 1979 to 2016. A new movie is also set to begin production in spring 2022. You can currently watch every "Star Trek" film on Paramount Plus. The movies are also available to buy or rent without a subscription through different VOD services, and you can stream a couple for free with ads.

'Star Trek' timeline and eras explained

"Star Trek" movies and TV shows all take place in different time periods that focus on different crews and starships. These time periods are generally categorized by fans and creators into four distinct eras: Pre-TOS, TOS, TNG, and Kelvin

Pre-TOS era

Movies and TV shows set during the Pre-The Original Series (Pre-TOS) era take place at some point before James T. Kirk becomes captain of the Enterprise.

A few notable series set during this early time period include "Star Trek: Enterprise," "Star Trek: Discovery," and " Star Trek: Strange New Worlds ."

The Original Series (TOS) era of movies and TV shows follows the crew members on the starship USS Enterprise after Kirk (William Shatner) becomes captain. Other notable characters featured during this period include Spock (Leonard Nimoy), Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley), Nyota Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), and Hikaru Sulu (George Takei).

The Original Series era includes the first "Star Trek" TV show from the 1960s, as well as several spin-off movies that feature Captain Kirk and his crew.

The Next Generation (TNG) era is set 100 years after Kirk's adventures during "The Original Series," and includes movies and TV shows about the new crew of the USS Enterprise with Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard.

"Deep Space Nine" and "Voyager" are set during this time period as well, but focus on other crews and starships. Captain Picard's story also continues after "The Next Generation" in the Paramount Plus original series "Star Trek: Picard."

Kelvin Timeline

The Kelvin Timeline was introduced in 2009 with the release of director J.J. Abrams' first "Star Trek" movie starring Chris Pine as Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Commander Spock. This film features the crew from "The Original Series" but takes place in an alternate universe that's separate from the main "Star Trek" timeline.

In this version of events, Kirk still becomes Captain of the USS Enterprise but his path to get there is brand new, which gives the writers freedom to explore different storylines with familiar characters.

The Kelvin Timeline includes "Star Trek" (2009), "Star Trek Into Darkness" (2013), and "Star Trek Beyond" (2016). An upcoming fourth movie in the Kelvin Timeline is set to begin production in spring 2022.

10 Most Important Star Trek Time Travelers

Every star trek series finale ranked worst to best, the wasp review: this dark, jaw-dropping psychological thriller is the wildest film i've seen all year.

With the advent of streaming in the last decade, the deep  Star Trek  library is among the most in-demand collection of properties for sci-fi fans looking to stream their favorite show or movie. First championed by Paramount, Star Trek series and films look poised to end up gathered on the company's latest online outlet Paramount+. Before this, however, individual properties found homes on a variety of services, some of which still live there today. Whether it's the original Shatner-led show or the latest Pine-led movie, here's a handy guide to the  Star Trek streaming landscape as it currently stands, and predictions for the future of the IP.

Since  The Original Series kicked off what would become one of the earliest and largest media franchises, there have been 9 additional television series released, some live-action and some animated, totaling over 700 episodes of content. They are as follows: The Animated Series (1974),  The Next Generation (1988-1994),  Deep Space Nine (1993-1999),  Voyager (1995-2001),  Enterprise (2002-2005),  Discovery (2018-),  Short Treks (2019-2020),  Picard , (2020-), and  Lower Decks (2020-). The success of some of these series supported film adaptations: six using the original crew, four based off  The Next Generation , and three so-called "Kelvin" reboots , with a fourth planned. Most of these are available to stream, but different services host different properties.

With ViacomCBS getting into the streaming business, IP produced after the rollout of CBS All-Access, later Paramount+, lives exclusively on its home service. It stands to reason that, as exclusivity and licensing contracts expire, each  Star Trek show and movie will eventually find its way onto Paramount+, just as certain Marvel Studios properties continued to stream on Netflix before eventually consolidating on Disney+ months after that service's rollout.

Watch: First ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Season 2 Trailer Reveals New Classified Mission And A Time Paradox

We recently learned the second season of  Star Trek: Prodigy was arriving on Netflix on July 1st , and now we have our first trailer. We also have new details on the season and key art.

New trailer!

This morning CBS Studios debuted the first official trailer for the second season of the animated kids’ (of all ages) series Star Trek: Prodigy, less than two weeks ahead of the Monday, July 1 debut with all 20 episodes.

Check it out…

Prodigy was developed by Emmy winners Kevin and Dan Hageman along with Alex Kurtzman to be the first Star Trek series specifically aimed at younger audiences. The animated series originally debuted in the fall of 2021 on Paramount+ with the first season of 20 episodes split into two parts, wrapping up in December 2022. After being removed by Paramount+, the show was picked up by Netflix, which re-released the first season last Christmas. After the Paramount+ removal, fans rallied behind a #SaveStarTrekProdigy campaign of the summer of 2023, including flying an airplane banner over the Hollywood offices of Netflix.

“We deeply appreciate our fans who have stood by us and our passionate crew who made this all possible. The work speaks for itself, but it’s the heart that will endure,” said co-showrunners Kevin and Dan Hageman about the Season 2 release.

New synopsis and poster!

The first season of Prodigy follows a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search of a better future, with a little help from a hologram version of Kathryn Janeway (voiced by Voyager star Kate Mulgrew). Season 1 wrapped up with the young aliens arriving on Earth, becoming Starfleet trainees under the guidance of Vice Admiral Janeway (also voiced by Mulgrew).

Here is how CBS Studios is describing the story for the new season:

In Season 2, these six young outcasts who make up the Prodigy crew are assigned a new mission aboard the USS Voyager-A to rescue Captain Chakotay (voiced by Robert Beltran) and bring peace to Gwyn’s (voiced by Ella Purnell) home world. However, when their plan goes astray, it creates a time paradox that jeopardizes both their future and past.

The Prodigy voice cast includes Kate Mulgrew (Hologram Kathryn Janeway), Brett Gray (Dal), Ella Purnell (Gwyn), Rylee Alazraqui (Rok-Tahk), Angus Imrie (Zero), Jason Mantzoukas (Jankom Pog), Dee Bradley Baker (Murf), John Noble (The Diviner) and Jimmi Simpson (Drednok). The season 2 recurring voice cast members include Robert Beltran (Captain Chakotay), Robert Picardo (The Doctor), Jason Alexander (Doctor Noum), Daveed Diggs (Commander Tysess), Jameela Jamil (Ensign Asencia), Ronny Cox (Admiral Jellico) and Michaela Dietz (Maj’el).

CBS also released a new key art poster for season 2…

Season 2 of  Prodigy will stream on Netflix globally (excluding Canada, Nordics, CEE, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Russia, Belarus and Mainland China) and season one is currently available on SkyShowtime in the Nordics, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Central and Eastern Europe with season two coming soon. Season two has launched in France on France Televisions channels and Okoo. TrekMovie is trying to confirm details on a release of season 2 in Canada.

‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Season 2 Coming To Netflix In July

This show brings me so much joy!

Same! I dearly love this one.

I’ll admit I don’t always connect with the young characters as much as I’d like to, but the show is smart, inventive and full of heart. It deserves success and I’m looking forward to this season and hopefully more after that.

Same. I found myself wanting more Adm. Janeway and her crew in S1, and that the scenes which were really only the kids were my least favorite, but then again – that sort of defeats the purpose of the show, attracting a new, younger audience. So I’ll go sit down now.

I sympathize but also…

I’m Gen X/male/straight but could tap into what it felt like to be in 7th grade and really want to kiss one Clarissa Linnemeyer thanks to my new hormones. (Never happened, lol.)

Anyway, I tip my hat to the writers for bringing me back to age 13 for the Dal/Gwyndala thing.

0:28 in the trailer: I love how Prodigy shows a turbolift in action, smoothly navigating through cross traffic with other lifts. This smart little detail makes turbolifts more visually exciting and also helps us understand their workings better.

Glad you like it – for me turbolifts are a tremendous waste of space on a starship. For them to function as they are shown they’d take up a third of available space. No smart artistic rendering is going to change that.

I would say that’s one of the things DISCO got right with the 32nd century – no more turbolifts just quite transporting b/w levels/locations.

Agreed but what if the transporters go offline?

Hopefully they still have Jeffries tubes!

Yeah that was pretty cool. Other than seeing the little lights inside the lift in TOS and TNG where some lights go back and forth and the others left and right, we’ve never actually seen a 3D turbo lift.

Finally, real Star Trek is back! I’m super excited!

All Star Trek is “real” Star Trek.

All Star Trek is real Star Trek. Lets not forget that, please.

That is absolutely correct! And the corollary to that is: any Trek is better than no Trek. (at least in my opinion.)

Huh, I’m actually looking forward to Season 2 now. Season 1 was good, but I’m of course like 40 years beyond the target audience. This mix of legacy characters plus the new ones and a very Trek adventure looks fun! I still don’t understand how anyone with a brain at Paramount thought it was a good idea to abandon this series just for a quick tax write-off …

“ TrekMovie is trying to confirm details on a release of season 2 in Canada.”

Thank you, hopefully CTV confirms they will air it. Might have to wait for physical media release. :)

But will Harry Kim still be an ensign when/if he shows up?

Based off Prodigy season 1, Lower Decks and Picard, every Voyager character we seen so far has all been promoted so he probablywill be too. I really hope we see Harry!! 😃

i hope he is a forever ensign he never did anything worth getting promoted for and he was way to eager for it like that was the only reason for him trying to suck up to everyone and impress them he wanted a promotion

Definitely have to agree to disagree then. I love Harry and he saved the ship numerous times and smart as a whip. And he was going to be a Captain in Picard season 3 so he will probably be at least a lieutenant by now in this time period. And he’s been promoted in every beta canon story around from novels to video games for decades now.

I want to see Boimler giving him orders.

Boims would be too starstruck around Harry. Remember he has his Voyager plate too. 😂

Lol true. I forgot about that.

Looks like a lot of fun. Now I’m really excited. I’m can’t wait to see the Voyager-A in all her glory. Random thought… Isn’t this technically an academy show now? Or maybe at least cadet show? Anyways, happy to have more Star Trek this year.

By ep 1.20, they’re now warrant officers in training, not Academy.

Thanks for the distinction. It makes since now.

Haven’t watched the trailer yet but judging from synopsis… Can star Trek stop being a time travel show?

The entire first session was based around time travel and Chakotay being stuck in the future. It’s a little too late for that.

It always has been a time travel show, going all the way back to TOS.

That’s true it has. However, they nearly always ignore paradox. The most extreme version of that is the series finale of Voyager.

The trailer had me at “New Worlds.”

I can’t wait. It looks terrific. I’m a huge fan of Star Trek time travel stuff.

Voyager-A looks great! I miss the 24th century starfleet. Fingers crossed for a future on Netflix for the talented creators of Prodigy.

“I can’t wait. It looks terrific. I’m a huge fan of Star Trek time travel stuff.”

I absolutely love time travel stories and especially in Star Trek! I can’t get enough of them and another reason why I love this show so much. I know we will be going to the 25th century but I’m hoping we go to a few other periods as well.

And the Voyager A looks beautiful!

Agreed about Star Trek time travel, and by extension time anomalies. While not every case is strong (I do think Picard season 2 had some good ideas/moments, but was very uneven overall), but it has a very strong batting average in that regard, so I’m glad they’re leaning into it here. Especially since these writers are good enough to pull it off (as seen by the tricky time stuff in “Time Amok”). Can’t wait to see what they do with it this season.

So they’re going to wrap up the Chakotay story, and Gwen’s? I don’t want this cancelled before they do.

The producers stated the storyline is wrapped up by the end of season 2.

Hot take: Bearded animated Chakotay is HOT.

You’re not wrong.

This looks absolutely amazing!

Can not tell you how excited I am to have this show back and is easily the one I was most excited for this year.

It looks like we are going to be getting a lot of strange new worlds, time travel, weird trippy stories and the Voyager A. I’m also happy Gwyn looks like she’s a big part of the team. I was afraid she would mostly be on her home planet.

I missed this show so much. Can not wait!! Less than 2 weeks to go!

Star Trek lives!

And you don’t need Paramount+ to watch!

Lol very true, which I’m canceling this month once my subscription expires.. .until LDS comes back. 😉

I keep Netflix all year long because it’s worth it.

This all looks so fabulous. I smiled throughout the entire trailer and was so happy to see the kids back together along with Janeway and the Doctor. Very happy to see Commander Tysess back as well.

The Voyager A looks fantastic. This looks like it will be a wonderful season. I really regret I waited so long to finally give this show a chance but I absolutely love it now.

So happy you enjoyed the trailer. And yeah looks we are getting a great season. I’ve missed both these characters and the 24th century a lot.

And I completely missed Tysess when I watched it somehow. So happy he’s back. Can never get enough of seeing more andorians.

I will be waiting to see it when it comes out on blu-ray as I do not have netflix and never will it is on my permanent boycott list along with chick-fil-a and hobby lobby

Netflix, Hobby Lobby, and Chick-fil-A aren’t losing any sleep over that.

What’s the point of belittling her principles? Sheesh.

Use your phasers! They seem unphased… Okay, maybe its time to sign back up for Netflix.

They brought back George and Gracie? I might finally have to give this show a chance.

So glad to finally have a trailer. And this season looks just as great as I was hoping it would be. The main story looks epic, and seems to be leaning into the weird time stuff that was hinted at in season 1. Love the looks at Solum, and the return of Asencia/The Vindicator.

Love seeing some of the mix of returning characters and new characters to look forward to. For the new characters, I’m particularly curious about that Maj’El we see in a few scenes. And I love the look of that Klingon as well.

It’s also nice getting a glimpse of some of the stand-alone stuff as well. I’ve been rewatching TAS recently, and the episode “More Tribbles, More Troubles” made me realize how great a Tribble episode would be on Prodigy (it really does look great from the glimpses we get in the trailer). I also love the different planets and new alien ideas we get to see here. That’s one of the strengths of season 1, and these look just as strong, if not even better.

I can’t believe it’s only about 1 1/2 weeks until our patience finally pays off. I’m sure it will be more than worth the wait. Hopefully it will do well enough for Netflix to renew it for a 3rd season.

From your lips (RE a third season). I could see them maybe pairing it down to ten, but even that would be a gift.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. But honestly, if you look at season 1 and how it’s structured, I could see the two halves working almost like a season by themselves. So if they don’t let it affect the way they approach the seasons (keeping the more episodic elements mixed in with the bigger arcs), the change could almost be barely noticeable.

God this looks good, still dont understand why it was cancelled, but glad it’s almost back!

I think it came down to Paramount Global running low on money. Once Wall Street stopped to think about how rational it was to encourage everyone to spend with abandon to feed streaming subscriber growth, it was a reality check to everyone and Paramount was one of the worst-equipped to pivot. So that meant austerity measures which affected Trek in the cancellations of Discovery and Lower Decks and selling Prodigy. I don’t think it helped that it didn’t do gangbusters at Nickelodeon, but from what we’ve been told it did fine at P+. It’s just that everyone but Netflix and Apple is instituting some austerity measures for streaming, and Paramount has to make harder choices about what to fund to stay relevant. So that means more Taylor Sheridan, more IP tie-ins, more foreign productions, and for Trek they favor totally new Star Trek shows and movies over renewals, SNW exempted for now.

From what I been reading lately it does sound like things are more dire there than previously reported and a big reason is Paramount +. They just sunk too much money into it and it’s nowhere close to turning a profit.

And unfortunately Star Trek is paying the price because that’s probably the one where most of the money went outside the Sheridan shows.

And it’s really obvious how much the budget was cut with all the live show’s latest seasons.

Prodigy was probably an easier one to cut because it was probably making the lowest numbers and was not really a P+ show like the others were.

It does suck when you see how much quality and effort that went into making this show and it’s just casted aside to save a little bit of money.

Even though Discovery and LDS got canceled they are still part of the service. It just speaks to the severe problems that site is having.

The reality is they probably make more money licensing the shows off and where all of this will ultimately go.

I’m so jonesing for this right now. Crazy that we’ve historically had long waits for more of this show, and now all of a sudden we’re getting twenty episodes all at once (!).

Re: the key art, it looks like some graphic artist flopped Jankom Pog without realizing the effect it has.

This looks awesome.

I know you’re taking the cast list from the press release, but I assume Mulgrew is playing Admiral Janeway rather than Hologram Janeway.

Hologram Janeway died so definitely thr Admiral.

Hologram Janeway is in the trailer.

OK fine but its confirmed Admiral Janeway is a main character this season. We don’t know the context to Hologram Janeway yet, especiallysince no one has said she’scomingback. She could come back or just part of a flashback scene.

Awwww yeah, this is what we been waiting for!

This looks totally awesome. I’m so excited to see Janeway, The Doctor and the kids back and to help bring Chakotay home!

I’m super happy to see how well fans are responding to this trailer. Prodigy is Star Trek done right and clicks all the boxes.

This looks like it’s going to be a great season.

I’m hoping sites like this and TrekCore will just review one (or maybe two) episodes per week so that we can get fan engagement on each one.

Not distributed even in Japan

I love the homage to Doctor Who: “timey wimey“.

Ugh.. kids on the frontier quickly devolves into another season of Voyager complete with time travel nonsense. Sad. Maybe they can go back in time and have the writers save the show by not doing this and keeping it about kids learning their way in the universe (while both saving the Protostar and giving it a more Trek style bridge) if they’re not too busy to stop World War 3 from happening and all that. Oh well, the first part of Season One rocked.

This Treks vibe is exactly what the live action shows should be. Mondinerised but at the heart what we truly love about Trek. I’ve been watching season one again, especially the second half of it and I had forgotten how fantastic it is, I don’t think there really is an episode that is in any ways boring or dragged on.

You can always tell how excited fans are for something after reading the comments section after a trailer dropped. So far the comments seem to be 95% positive which is amazing, ESPECIALLY for Trek fans lol.

Just for comparison I looked st the comments for the last trailer of season 5 of Discovery and it seem to be 60/40, ie 60% negative or skeptical and about 40% excited or at least hopeful. HOWEVER I do feel those numbers switched when grading the season itself which is good obviously and proved some of those bitter hateful naysayers wrong (including myself lol).

But it looks like Prodigy is in a great place in terms of this board at least, but it’s been pretty positive every place I read so far. It could still end up bad of course, but I feel completely competent we’re getting another great season! 😀

Yeah, it’s great to see how positive the discussion is surrounding this show. I will say I enjoy Discovery and Picard more than the average person on here, though fully admit they have their flaws (Picard in particular being more uneven than I’d like, with season 2 in particular weighing it down a fair bit), and can understand people not being as into them. But given the varied opinions on modern Trek, it’s nice to see a show that’s loved by such a large percentage of those who give it a chance. Really hoping that now that it’s on Netflix, with a trailer hyping up the new season, it will gain traction with a wider audience, because it really deserves the praise IMO.

“Live long and prosper.”

This iconic line from Star Trek holds true for the franchise as well. Starting from the original 1966 series and continuing with big-budget films by JJ Abrams, Star Trek has endured for decades. Perhaps only rivaled by Star Wars , it remains one of the biggest and most diverse sci-fi franchises of all time. The original series and reboot movies revolved around the interplanetary adventures of the spaceship USS Enterprise, introducing unforgettable crew members like Captain James T. Kirk and his loyal First Officer Spock. However, since then, the franchise has also gone on to incorporate many other storylines with sequels, prequels, and spinoffs.

Confused about starting your Star Trek journey? Let our streaming guide show you how and where to watch all Star Trek movies and TV shows in India using services like Netflix and Prime Video !

How to watch the Star Trek franchise in chronological order

Following the numerous Star Trek movies and TV shows can be quite confusing for beginners. But if you want to stick to chronology, here is the order in which you should watch Star Trek:

Star Trek: Enterprise

Star Trek: Discovery (Seasons 1-2)

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Star Trek: The Original Series

Star Trek: The Animated Series

Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

Star Trek: The Next Generation

Star Trek: Generations

Star Trek: First Contact

Star Trek: Insurrection

Star Trek: Nemesis

Star trek: deep space nine.

Star Trek: Voyager

Star Trek Lower Decks

Star Trek Prodigy

Star Trek: Picard

Star Trek: Discovery (Season 3-4)

Alternate Timeline/Reboot Movies:

Star Trek

Star Trek Into Darkness

Star Trek Beyond

The multiple Star Trek properties would be too much to take in so, it’s best to divide them into multiple continuities.

The Pre-Original Series Continuity

The TV show Star Trek: Enterprise is set a hundred years before the adventures of Kirk and Spock. Instead of the USS Enterprise, the crew of the series steers an older version of the Enterprise in the year 2151.

The events of the series are then followed by the first two seasons of Star Trek: Discovery (set aboard the USS Discovery) and the ongoing TV series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

The Original Series Continuity

The original Star Trek series kicks off in the year 2265 and was followed by an animated series which in turn was followed by six films. The cast and crew is mostly recurring throughout this continuity. This glorious first run of the franchise is regarded as the very best by many within the fandom.

Star Trek: The Animated Series

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Star Trek III: The Search For Spock

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

Star trek v: the final frontier, star trek vi: the undiscovered country, the star trek reboot continuity .

The three Star Trek movies by JJ Abrams reboot the entire franchise and take place in an alternate timeline. Expect Easter Eggs and cameos from the Original Series but still remember this is a whole different continuity. In this sense, even beginners with no prior Star Trek knowledge can watch this trilogy.

Star Trek Into the Darkness

The Next Generation/Picard Continuity

After The Original Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation covered the events from 2364 onwards. With Patrick Stewart playing the heroic Enterprise captain Jean-Luc Picard, this series appealed to a new generation of fans and was followed by successful movies like First Contact and Nemesis. The Prime Video series titled Picard is set two decades after the events of Nemesis and continues the future whereabouts of Picard and his crew.

Star Trek: The Next Generation

Star Trek Generations

Star Trek: First Contact

Star Trek: Picard

Deep Space Nine Continuity

Taking place mostly in the titular spacecraft, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is chronologically set between the events of Nemesis and Picard. It was followed by a direct sequel series Star Trek Voyager.

Kate Mulgrew’s Captain Kathryn Janeway was the lead of Voyager, a role she reprised in the 3D animated series Star Trek: Prodigy (that introduced a younger generation of Star Trek heroes).

Star Trek: Voyager

Star Trek: Prodigy

Netflix

Star Trek is an American science fiction television series created by Gene Roddenberry that follows the adventures of the starship USS Enterprise and its crew. The show is set in the Milky Way galaxy, roughly during the 2260s. The crew is headed by Captain James T. Kirk, first officer Spock, and chief medical officer Leonard McCoy. Shatner's voice-over introduction during each episode's opening credits stated the starship's purpose: The series was produced from 1966-67 by Desilu Productions, and by Paramount Television from 1968-69. Star Trek aired on NBC from September 8, 1966 to June 3, 1969. Although this television series had the title of Star Trek, it later acquired the retronym of Star Trek: The Original Series to distinguish the show within the media franchise that it began. Star Trek's Nielsen ratings while on NBC were low, and the network canceled it after three seasons and 79 episodes. Nevertheless, the show had a major influence on popular culture and it became a cult classic in broadcast syndication during the 1970s. The show eventually spawned a franchise, consisting of five additional television series, 12 theatrical films, and numerous books, games, toys, and other products.
