Slabbed sales data, covrprice’s take on comic values.

A comic is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. With this in mind, CovrPrice only displays actual sales data (taken across multiple online marketplaces… not just eBay) to help you better determine the best value for your comics.

GRAPH - Total Graded Averages

Our goal for this graph is to show overall sales trends for officially graded comics. Here we take the average for each condition and display it as a data point. To see the most recent sales data for each condition be sure to look at the individual sales data listed in the tables below.

WHY ARE SOME SALES MISSING?

“I sold a comic last week, why isn’t it showing up on your site?”

At CovrPrice, we capture tens of thousands of sales DAILY. It’s simply impossible for a human to determine the authenticity of every sale coming our way. (Trust us, we’ve tried) To ensure the quality of our data we error on the side of caution, valuing accuracy over quantity. We only integrate sales for comics that our robots are confident are correct. While we don’t capture 100% of every sale in the market we’re getting closer and closer to that goal. If you think we missed a sale that you want to be entered into CovrPrice just contact us at [email protected] with information about the sale and our humans will investigate and add it for you.

HOW CAN I HELP COVRPICE CAPTURE MY SALES?

That’s easy, when listing your comics for sale on 3rd party marketplaces be sure you include the following: Comic Title, Issue #, Issue Year, Variant Info (usually the cover artists last name), and Grade info.

For example Captain Marvel #1 (2015) - Hughes Variant - CGC 9.8

This will help our robots better identify and sort your sales more accurately.

Raw Sales Data

Conditions info for raw comics.

We’re working hard to provide you with more information about the raw sales data we capture. When we’re able to determine the condition/grade of a raw comic, we’ll list that grade in blue next to the sale. Please Note: Since raw condition information comes from the seller’s listing itself, it should be viewed as subjective. However, if a seller states a comic is a 9.8 and a buyer buys it, one might infer that the buyer was in fact willing to pay that amount for that condition.

WHY DO YOU SHOW RAW VALUES?

Ummm… cause we’re awesome. Also, most comic collections are made up of non-graded comics. Don’t get us wrong, grading is a great way to preserve and authenticate the condition of your comic, but it’s also important to know what the other 95% of your raw collection is worth. That’s why we do all the leg work and show both graded and raw values.

How to Read the COVRPRICE Value Ribbon

Our goal is to provide our members with the closest FMV (fair market value) for all the comics in their COVR PRICE collection. Our approach is as follows:

1) If no condition info is entered for a comic, we will show you the FMV for the most common condition of that comic.

2) If you’ve entered condition info, we will show you the FMV for that specific condition, when it’s available.

3) If that specific condition has no sale values available, we will show you the FMV for the most common condition of that comic (either raw or slabbed)

This approach helps to ensure that most of your comics have a reasonable value estimate based only on real sales data (not speculation).

The items below show how value information is displayed for raw and slabbed comics on the COVR PRICE value ribbon.

Captain's log.

It's a busy time here at Star Trek Explorer! When news broke that the final season of Star Trek: Discovery was set to air on Paramount+ in April, we made some rapid changes to planned content, pushing back some items into future issues to make way for an exclusive interview with Sonequa Martin-Green, who plays Captain Michael Burnham on the show. She teases things to come as the series draws to a close, and offers some candid comments on what she hopes the legacy of the show will be. I hope you enjoy what she has to say and we'd like to thank Sonequa for her time talking to Ian Spelling for the magazine. Elsewhere, we have another interview exclusive – a sit down with The Hageman Brothers, creators of Star Trek:…

Star Trek: Discovery's Final Frontier Star Trek: Discovery’s fifth and final season begins streaming this April on Paramount+, offering a plot focusing on a galaxy-spanning adventure related to the U.S.S. Discovery’s pursuit of an ancient power. Fans responded to the April return date on Instagram when the news of the upcoming ten-episode season first broke. Phaedra Kariyma emphasized the leadership displayed by Sonequa Martin-Green and her character Michael Burnham, writing, “I love this show so much! Captain Burnham means so much to me.” Speaking to the bittersweet nature of knowing these new episodes will be Discovery’s last, fan Kerri Thorpe noted that the announcement was, “Happy and sad at the same time.” Even the cast chimed in, as actor Elias Toufexis, who plays L'ak in season five, jokingly commented on a cast photo,…

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY THE RIDE TO SEASON FIVE

Season One: The Klingon War Star Trek: Discovery’s thrilling adventures have covered an astounding span of space and time through just four seasons, and it all began with a fateful confrontation between the U.S.S. Shenzhou and T'Kuvma's flagship at the edge of Federation territory in 2256. The engagement sparked the Klingon War, a brutal affair which raged across the quadrant. Many Starfleet officers blamed Michael Burnham and her mutinous spirit for the bloodshed, but Captain Gabriel Lorca gave her a second chance aboard the U.S.S. Discovery, a vessel equipped with an experimental spore drive that could travel instantaneously across the galaxy. While researching a way to penetrate Klingon cloaking technology, Lorca orchestrated an attack on the Klingon flagship and killed Kol, its merciless captain. In the aftermath, U.S.S. Discovery arrived in the…

CATCHING LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE

And so the end begins for Sonequa Martin-Green. Season five of Star Trek: Discovery is coming up, but if we include casting, production of the pilot, and delays caused by the pandemic, seven and a half years of Martin-Green's life and career will have gone by when all is said and done. The experience as a whole – starring on a show, joining the Star Trek universe, meeting fans around the world, befriending her cast and crew, losing her parents, becoming a mom again – altered everything for the actress, and she'd want it no other way. During a recent exit interview with Star Trek Explorer, Martin-Green – as effusive and emotional as always – looked back at all that has transpired, teased season five, and contemplated the future now that…

Where is the strangest place you've been recognized for Star Trek? - Part 2 JERI RYAN Seven of Nine, first seen in Star Trek: Voyager I've been recognized in some exotic place, but normally the place I get recognized the most is at the grocery store. And, generally, I look my worst. If I haven't showered, my hair is in a bun and I've got no makeup on, that's when I get recognized. And I'm surprised I'm recognized right now, because we're all still wearing masks. That's always a little bit bizarre to me. What do I look like from Star Trek that I'm always recognized when I'm out and looking my worst? New ‘Star Trek Explorer’ Magazine Launches Today With New Look And New Features

star trek explorer issue 7

| November 16, 2021 | By: Anthony Pascale 7 comments so far

Over the summer Titan publishing announced that the official Star Trek Magazine was being relaunched as Star Trek Explorer . The first issue arrives today and TrekMovie spoke with editor Nick Jones as well as Inside Trek /Fiction Editor Jonathan Wilkins about what’s new for the Star Trek periodical.

Relaunching for a new golden age of Star Trek

Star Trek Magazine ran for many years as the official Star Trek magazine, but Titan felt that it was time for a change. Editor Nick Jones explains:

The change is a result of a number of facts, chief amongst which is that with this bold new era of Star Trek we’re in the midst of, with so many new shows debuting – some have called it a new Golden Age – it felt like the right time to relaunch the magazine. The Star Trek universe has changed a lot in the four years since Star Trek: Discovery debuted – a change that arguably began with the 2009 Star Trek movie – and the magazine needed to reflect that. We had 25 years under our belt as Star Trek Magazine, so when the covid pandemic forced a pause in publication, we and our partners at CBS took the time to reflect on everything we’d achieved, reassess where we wanted to go, and forge a new future. Hence, Star Trek Explorer .

Table of contents for the first issue of Star Trek Explorer

Explorer will be different than the previous magazine in a number of ways, these include:

  • New original short fiction written by some of Star Trek’s best-known authors.
  • Inside Trek , a new magazine-within-a-magazine, which goes deeper on a given subject.
  • Trek 101, which gives readers, new and old, the lowdown on a key aspect of Trek (for the first issue it is all about Gene Roddenberry)
  • The Q Continuum, where Star Trek luminaries (actors, writers, directors, etc.) are all asked “a big question”
  • The Definitive Guide (the first issue focuses on Enterprise )
  • Trek Through Life, a celebration of fandom in all its infinite diversity.
  • For subscribers: a digital supplement (including more new fiction, plus other added content)

The Definitive Guide to Enterprise

Issue one has a focus on Star Trek: Discovery including interviews with stars Blu del Barrio and Ian Alexander, guest star David Cronenberg, and co-showrunner Michelle Paradise. While the relaunch is inspired by all the new shows, Jones emphasized that the magazine will continue to balance content with what has come before:

We’ve always tried to strike a balance between the legacy shows/movies and the new ones, and that will continue to be the case, but things like “Inside Trek” and “The Definitive Guide” do give us more scope to explore aspects of legacy Trek in greater depth. Often though, elements or plotlines of the new shows will inspire reassessments of the older ones, the perfect example of that being Larry Nemeck’s “A Fistful of Data” column and Chris Dow’s “Treknology” column. Larry and Chris are experts at picking up on new developments in Discovery and Picard and the other shows and seeing how those relate both to established canon and to the wider world.

New short Star Trek fiction

As noted above one of the biggest new things for Explorer is the inclusion of new original Star Trek short fiction in each issue. These stories will be coming from writers like James Swallow, Una McCormack, Chris Cooper, and Lisa Clink, the stories also include brand-new art.

Fiction Editor Jonathan Wilkins gave a preview of issue one, and what is to come:

For the first issue we have some stories featuring Q. He’s such a big character in the franchise that we thought we would explore him a little. And, of course, he is back in the new season of Picard , so it felt timely to let him pop up on the pages of Star Trek Explorer and cause mischief. He even has a run-in with a certain James T. Kirk… We like to surprise readers, so I won’t say too much about what’s coming up next, but be prepared to engage the Borg…!

star trek explorer issue 7

Kirk gets a focus with his Top 10 Moments in Issue 1

Picard gets a focus in issue 2

The first issue of Explorer arrives just in time for Thursday’s launch of Discovery season four. Being quarterly, issue two will arrive in February which also happens to be when the second season of Picard launches. Nick Jones explained how this synergy will fit in with Explorer :

We aren’t necessarily tied to the new shows in terms of which interviews we run, but we will certainly be running interviews with actors and behind-the-scenes folk from the new shows. That said, issue 2 does have a distinct Picard focus, not just in terms of the interviews, but in that some of the themes of the issue are inspired by the themes of Picard season 2. As I mentioned, the new Trek series continue to inspire us to look at legacy Trek anew.

Jones also revealed that issue two will include new interviews with Star Trek: Picard’s executive producer Akiva Goldsman, as well as star Jeri Ryan and Annie Wersching, who is playing the Borg Queen. The Inside Trek mini-magazine will focus on the Borg, and the Definitive Guide will spotlight Star Trek: First Contact and Trek 101 will profile Jean-Luc Picard. In Issue 2 they also ask Robert Beltran, Jonathan Frakes, Jason Isaacs, Nichelle Nichols, Brent Spiner, and others to nominate Star Trek’s greatest guest star, and there’s a feature on how science fiction author Alistair Reynolds has been inspired by Trek. Jones also revealed that issue 3 will include an interview with John de Lancie.

Interview: ‘Discovery’ Writer Eric J. Robbins On Efrosians And More Star Trek Connections In “Labyrinths”

My first issue arrived and I thoroughly finished reading all of it yesterday. It is very good and a nice improvement if that is even a correct statement. The mag was always eagerly awaited as it was. This is a better format with all the in depth sections now. My wife and I enjoyed that they did ENTERPRISE first, we love show as it was on TV when we first started dating. Look forward to many more issues.

Hi Lt. Bailey, was the Enterprise Guide really strong? You seem to like it so I guess it would be a yes lol. Also I would like to buy this because of the Discovery interview with Michelle Paradise. But unfortunately every time she talks, it’s always so vague and fluffly. I know its due to trying to avoid spoilers but is it at least a substantial interview? I’m not looking for season 4 spoilers I just want to know does she talk about the show beyond ‘It’s really great and everyone is really nice” type of stuff? I would for ONCE just love to hear what it really takes to make that show, like the decision to take the show into the 32nd century and the process that took, good and bad. But its sadly nothing but PR fluff when anyone from the production talks about the show. Is there actual depth there?

Holy Prophets, I’d actually be interested but why is it so expensive?? Are all magazines this expensive now?

Sadly, they are. This is actually the least expensive magazine I buy nowadays. SFX and Doctor Who Magazine cost about twice this much.

Crikey, it’s been so long since I’ve bought magazines. I would definitely have supported this but can’t justify the expense. What astonishes me is that the digital edition isn’t far off DOUBLE the price of the print edition! I assumed digital would be cheaper. I don’t quite understand that. But I nevertheless hope this does well

looks like if you do the yearly it’s $30. not sure how many issues there are in a year

Wow I think I’m going to buy this! It looks really good and I really want the Definitive Guide on Enterprise. That alone will get me to buy the first issue. The short story all about Q and running into Kirk also sounds super fun!

And issue two will focus on Picard while the Definite Guide will be on First Contact. Even better! I just can’t decide to get either the physical or digital version.

But it looks like they will have some pretty good coverage of the entire franchise. I would like to see something from the Kelvin universe as well, but I’m guessing that will come in time. But I’ll definitely buy the first issue.

Star Trek Explorer’s new short fiction are fun, bite-sized stories that give you quick hits of Trek fiction when you don’t have time to dive into a full novel; there are two in the print edition, and another two in the digital supplement for subscribers to the digital version of the magazine.

The inaugural two stories in the print edition –“All That Most Maddens and Torments” by Christopher Cooper, which concerns Q’s encounter with the original  Enterprise’s captain, and “Q and False,” a  Next Gen tale by former Star Trek: Voyager story editor Lisa Klink.

Both stories capably capture the essence and voice of John de Lancie’s iconic Q character, and Christopher Cooper’s story is particularly fun, as it puts the galactic trickster face to face with James T. Kirk during an important moment in the captain’s life.

Klink briefly shared a few comments with us regarding her story.

What can fans look forward to in this new short fiction from Star Trek Explorer, and from your story in particular? Readers can look forward to some fun with new stories about Q. After having written episodes for DS9 and Voyager, what made you want to return to the Star Trek universe and write Star Trek short fiction? I was excited by the opportunity to revisit the Trek universe, especially the chance to write about any characters I liked. I’ve never written about The Next Generation crew, so I was happy to be able to feature them in my story. What most intrigues you about the character of Q? I love the mysterious nature of Q, and his complete disregard for things like dignity and protocol. How do you see Q – is he a cheerful antagonist, an antagonistic ally, or something else? I see Q as a cheerful antagonist. He rarely does significant harm, but certainly doesn’t have the best interests of any Starfleet crew members in mind. What would you say is the most defining relationship for the character in your eyes? I believe Q is inherently narcissistic. He’s only interested in his own amusement, not any other consequence of his actions. How is the creative process similar or different between writing a short story and the script for an episode of Star Trek? The process of writing a short story is far different from writing an episode because there are no restrictions of budget or practicality. In a story, I can literally reinvent the universe in any way I like. Do you have any more Star Trek stories on the way? I certainly hope to have more stories in future issues of the magazine.

Titan Magazines has successfully leveraged the use of short fiction in their Star Wars magazine, and so it’s pleasing to see them bring the format to the new Star Trek Explorer . And if that wasn’t enough, a supplement to the digital edition of the magazine also has additional stories by James Swallow and Una McCormack, two long-time Star Trek novelists.

It’s been over a decade since any kind of short fiction Star Trek was in print, and it’s exciting to see a return to the format.

Read an exclusive excerpt from Titan's relaunched 'Trek' magazine 'Star Trek Explorer'

November's debut issue spotlights short stories centered around the notorious trickster Q.

Cover of the first issue of the relaunched

"Star Trek's" 55th anniversary celebration is gaining warp speed after its September birthday kickoff party , with a new retrospective hardcover, "Star Trek: A Celebration" (Hero Collector, 2021) hitting stores Sep. 21 and History Channel's 10-part "The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek" docuseries arriving Nov. 5.

Now Titan Publishing is also aiming for the stars with a fresh " Star Trek " periodical titled "Star Trek Explorer: The Official Magazine." Space.com is on board with a special peek inside the premiere issue, which comes out on Nov. 16.

Alongside in-depth interviews, revealing features and behind-the-scenes reports on fan favorite "Star Trek" films, TV series and other media projects, each quarterly "Star Trek Explorer" issue will spotlight a pair of all-new "Star Trek" short stories. Subscribers will also receive two extra short fiction pieces with their exclusive digital supplement.

The debut offering of outer space tales for November will be themed around the conniving character of Q, that recurring staple of Trek lore, constant headache of Captain Jean-Luc Picard and master manipulator.

As actor John de Lancie reprises his iconic role in season two of " Star Trek: Picard ," acclaimed writers including Lisa Klink ("Star Trek: Voyager," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"); James Swallow (BAFTA-nominated scriptwriter); Una McCormack (New York Times bestselling sci-fi author, and writer of "Star Trek: Picard – The Last Best Hope"); and Chris Cooper (writer of "Doctor Who" and "Torchwood" stories for Big Finish audio dramas) will be composing these new short fiction gems centered around this Machiavellian menace.

Inside the relaunched premiere issue, "Star Trek Explorer" asked the franchise's leading figures who should be in a "Star Trek" hall of fame. Here's what they said.

Jonathan Frakes.

JONATHAN FRAKES: RIKER, "STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION"

"After Gene Roddenberry , of course: Bill and Leonard and De. [Production Designer] Herman Zimmerman, Michael Piller, Ira Steven Behr. [Producers] Brannon [Braga] and Ron [Moore]. Definitely Rick Berman. Thank God for Rick, because he changed my career. That would just be the tip of the iceberg."

Jason Isaacs.

JASON ISAACS: LORCA, "STAR TREK: DISCOVERY"

"I really think of [Costume Designer] Gersha Phillips right away. She's an unsung genius. I made jokes about the costumes all the time being too tight, but it was pretty good for the diet and they do look fantastic. And I loved them. However, when we got to the Mirror Universe, and I got to dress like an '80s indie rocker, I felt infinitely cooler. My kids saw the costume and went 'Dad, you should have worn that all the way through.'"

Roxann Dawson.

ROXANN DAWSON: TORRES, "STAR TREK: VOYAGER"

"Ethan Phillips [Neelix]. My Ethan. He's amazing, so funny, and I love him so much. He did an amazing job with Neelix, which was really a very tough character to play. And he was so great on set. I feel he needs to be in the hall of fame."

Garrett Wang.

GARRETT WANG: KIM, "STAR TREK: VOYAGER"

"I would say George Takei or Nichelle Nichols . I know everyone knows who they are, but there's no underestimating their importance to … the world, really. If you think about it, in the '60s, up until that point, there were no positive portrayals of African American women or Asian American men until those two. So, no question, they belong in a 'Star Trek' hall of fame."

Wilson Cruz.

WILSON CRUZ: CULBER, "STAR TREK: DISCOVERY"

"I don't know if [Executive Producer] Alex Kurtzman gets enough credit. I give him credit because he was true to his word about Culber and Stamets, and that relationship, plus he's taken leadership of the whole franchise."

Fans can subscribe to Titan Publishing's " Star Trek Explorer: The Official Magazine " today. You get four issues for just $29.99, saving 25%, plus a unique digital supplement every issue featuring loads more "Star Trek" short fiction.

Elsewhere, the latest issue has an exclusive interview with the Hagemans — creators of Star Trek: Prodigy ! There’s a Star Trek: Picard short story, "Confirmation Bias" by Michael Dismuke, centering on a difficult encounter between Captain Shaw and Seven of Nine aboard the U.S.S. Titan -A. And in David Mack's short story, "Dignified Transfer," it’s a sad mission for Captain Picard. All this and so much more!

Thanks to our friends at Titan Magazines, we have an exclusive excerpt of the short, "Confirmation Bias" by Michael Dismuke, below!

"Your vessel will be towed to Starbase G-6 where you'll be remanded into the custody of Starfleet Security. From there, a formal tribunal will be formed to decide your fate. If your planet has a judicial system, they have the right to provide for your legal defense. Of course, they might disavow you. I would, since you are such abject losers. If that happens, you'll be provided a replacement from our judge advocate general's office."

Liam Shaw, captain of the U.S.S. Titan -A, finished reading the two captives their rights.

The Usangi'I males sat in two separate but adjacent holding cells in the ship's brig. Blue-hued force fields prevented the duo of criminals from escaping. Shaw couldn't help but think that the portly prisoners, dressed in shiny orange uniforms, resembled tubby worms with the facial features of star-nosed moles – the kind he had caught as a kid back home in Illinois. In a universe shaped by the peculiarities of interstellar evolution, the faces of the Usangi'I captives looked as if a cosmic engineer had attached an otherworldly satellite dish to their snouts. Comprising thirty to forty fleshy, prehensile tendrils that splayed outward like a miniature constellation, their unique facial appendages were endowed with hyper-sensitive neural clusters. These clusters resembled minuscule antenna arrays, fine-tuned to intercept and interpret environmental signals.

The crew of the Titan- A would have preferred to learn about a new, sentient species in a more diplomatic manner. However, the actions of the Usangi'I had changed their status to that of prisoners in the brig rather than of guests on the bridge.

"I'll make sure my chief of security sends you a few holopics of the innards of of a Federation penal colony. I'd hate to keep you in suspense regarding your new digs." Captain Shaw punched a few more notes into the PADD, signed off on the formal charges, then handed it to his first officer. "How many hours until we arrive at G-6, Commander Hansen?"

Seven checked the PADD, added her own sign off, and handed it to one of the two stern-faced security officers that stood guard. "Twelve hours, sir," she responded, silently roiling at the fact that Captain Shaw refused to refer to her by her chosen name.

Though she had thrown off the shackles of the Borg Collective, she had spent approximately half of her life as Seven of Nine, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix Zero One. Once liberated from the Borg, her crewmates aboard U.S.S. Voyager called her by the abbreviated moniker "Seven of Nine" — or just "Seven" — as did her associates in the Fenris Rangers. Shaw's insistence on referring to her by birth name, Annika Hansen, ran deeper than mere accuracy and formality, though the man was a model of procedural compliance. Over the course of weeks, the tonal inflections with which he uttered her name evolved from passive-aggressive jabs to more overt micro-aggressions.

"Captain," Seven asked as they exited the brig into the bustling corridor of the Neo-Constitution -class ship, "may we speak privately?"

"I don't see why not," he responded without making eye contact.

Within short order, Shaw and Seven regrouped to the starship's Observation Lounge. Shaw rounded the conference table and sat down opposite from where Seven stood. He didn't bother to offer a seat to his first officer. With a swipe of the hand, he activated the computer built into the surface of the table and tapped away without looking up. "What can I do for you, Commander Hansen?" He swiped left, making a few selections on the console.

Seven's lips pursed momentarily in a silent symphony of agitation as the captain summoned from the ship's database Vivaldi’s Concerto For Violin And Strings In F Minor. "I would like to address what transpired during our recent contact with the Usangi’I pirates, sir."

Shaw adjusted the volume of the music to his liking. "What exactly would you like me to address?" He sat back, his eyes set for the challenge. "We made first contract with a new species. We quickly determined hostile intent. We uncovered their ruse. Now they sit in the brig awaiting Starfleet justice. Not bad for this crew’s thirty-fifth mission. If you want to take the lead in writing the report, go right ahead."

"I’m not sure you want me to write that report." She offered a moment's hesitation. "Sir."

"Is that so?" The challenge had been accepted. He leaned forward, locking his hands together and resting his elbows on the table. "Pray tell."

You can read the complete short story in Star Trek Explorer #11 on sale April 9. Plus, there's an exclusive interview with Sonequa Martin-Green looking forward to Star Trek: Discovery 's fifth and final season; the Hagemans discuss the importance of Star Trek: Prodigy ; there’s more exclusive short fiction; your definitive guide to Star Trek: Picard Season 3 and much, much more!
