I definitely remember falling asleep quite a few times on my horse rocker when I was a wee little one. Rockers are a great element to have in a nursery, and an elephant one really works with the safari vibes.

Painting a mural on the wall is fun and all, but an easier option is to buy some wall vinyl displaying fun safari scenes. The elephant and lion go happily marching amongst the foliage with a monkey friend keeping them (and your baby) in good company.

If you love safari animals and the idea of a safari nursery, it can be a great theme because safari animals are somewhat gender-neutral.

Just picture a room with grey elephants, monkeys, lions, and giraffes. Not to mention all of the vibrant colors that come with a safari theme. So, whether you’re having a boy or girl, safari animals can be a great choice for your nursery.

How to Create a Safari Nursery Theme

There are many different ways to create a safari nursery. You can use animal prints, safari colors, and safari décor to get the look you want.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

Safari Nursery Walls

For the walls, consider using a safari wallpaper border or mural. You could also paint an animal scene on one or more of the walls. For example, you might want to have safari wallpaper on three walls and a large mural or decal as a feature wall.

When it comes to furniture, you can go with safari-themed pieces and safari nursery decor or simply add some safari touches to otherwise normal furniture.

Exploring nature and animal wall arts is another creative way to create a safari theme. Versatile options like colorful lion wall arts capture a lot about the animal kingdom to give a lift to the safari–theme room. They also add a bright glow and elegance to the general appearance.

Safari Changing Table

If you get a changing table for your safari nursery, consider one that has animals on it or at least features safari colors. You could also look for a Safari changing mat like the one below.

For this idea, you could use safari-colored paint or stencils of safari animals to finish off the job.

You could even go all out and make it look like a real safari tree! Choose your favorite safari and jungle-themed books for toddlers and have fun choosing a collection of stories to read with your little one as they grow.

If you’re looking for window treatments to match your safari nursery, there are many options to choose from. You could use colored curtains with animal prints on them.

You might also want to consider using safari-themed valances, drapes, or blinds. Look at the different price ranges and choose something which is budget-friendly and good quality so it will last a long time.

Adding themed touches to your nursery’s window treatments is a great way to complete the safari look in your child’s room.

Safari Nursery Decor Ideas

A few weeks ago, I shared a post announcing our exciting news – we’re expecting twins. They’re due this spring! We’re so excited – and I’ve been researching nursery ideas non-stop! I’ve contemplated a lot of different designs, and love so many ideas. Since we’re having a boy and a girl, we’re leaning toward a Safari theme. It just works so well for both genders (plus, there’s so much Safari nursery decor out there to choose from!). I may want to switch things up from time to time, so I won’t be going overboard. I still plan to keep things pretty neutral. That being said, I’ve found so much adorable décor, I just have to share. We’ll be picking and choosing a few of the pieces below.

Baby rooms come in all, shapes, sizes, and most importantly themes. And a current parent-favorite is a safari-themed nursery. Recent Decorilla clients, and parents-to-be, wanted a softened feel to this wild style and our team delivered exactly what they were looking for. Read on to see the results of this neutral safari-themed nursery perfect for welcoming a baby boy or girl!

The Challenge: Safari-Themed Nursery

While nursery interior design checklists are certainly helpful, sometimes a little professional design help is needed to get the look just right. In anticipation of welcoming home a new baby, recent clients were looking to create a gender-neutral nursery with a safari theme. The idea was to design a space that would be comfortable for both parents and child, with plenty of room to grow and change as time passed by. With that in mind, they asked the designers to:

Keep the color palette neutral with gray or cream walls as a background
Incorporate an accent wall with a fun printed wallpaper
Create a gender-neutral safari-themed nursery
Make the space gentle, playful, and sophisticated at the same time
Ensure some storage for all of the baby’s belongings
Source a comfortable chair for the mother

Safari theme nursery decor inspiration.

The clients’ inspirational gallery depicted their preferences quite clearly – a serene gender-neutral nursery . Most images featured exceptionally light and airy spaces filled with natural vibes. Creamy palettes featured wooden accents, while some of the details were also black-and-white. There was also safari-inspired bedding, a cute comforter with animal prints, and safari-themed wall art.

Safari Themed Nursery Ideas & Moodboard

To begin the online interior design process , Decorilla connected the clients with two suitable designers. Each designer created a unique visual concept. Both were open to revisions and edits in order to fulfill the client’s desires to perfection. Finally, after a round of consultations, the decision was made to continue working on the project with KaSonndra L .

Grey safari themed nursery ideas & mood board by Decorilla

KaSonndra’s moodboard encompassed all of the essential safari-themed nursery ideas , such as wildlife art, jungle theme accent wall, and of course, plush safari animals. Meanwhile, the creamy neutral palette provided a perfect background for a clean and simple layout. Even though the look was quite monochrome, the arrangement felt warm and inviting, ideal for both boys and girls.

Neutral Safari-Themed Nursery Design

The modern safari nursery decor relied on contemporary items that would ensure the room will be equally as functional as the child grows. However, for now the room’s design was a tranquil oasis to welcome a baby. The creamy color palette set the tone for a sophisticated space that will easily adapt to changes in accent colors or decor over the years. The true design details shine in the brilliant use of textures and a few golden metallic accents, which KaSonndra used to create visual interest within the room.

KaSonndra was careful to create a tasteful safari-theme without it being the least bit tacky. This was achieved through the use of muted decor that is cute, but not overly childish. And the showstopper was the elephant print wallpaper behind the crib that added a touch of whimsy.

White curtains blended with the wall color, making the room feel larger. However, their blackout feature also made it easy to control the room’s natural light – perfect for nap time. Thoughtful lamps and a shaded overhead pendant were also selected to bathe the room in soft light. Meanwhile, a few plants gave the room just a touch of color and nature fitting for a safari.

Convertible Nursery Furniture Selections

The furniture and decor sourced for this project were not chosen only for their timeless look but also for their functionality. The diaper changing station, for example, could also double as a conventional dresser in a couple of years. The gliding chair provided a comfortable spot to nurse the baby as well as to read stories to a toddler. Lastly, t he choice of a 4-in-one convertible crib provided the new parents with a comfortable bed for the baby. However, its best asset was the capability to quickly convert into a toddler bed or a full bed with the matching conversion kit.

Safari-Themed Nursery Before Interior Design

Before sprucing up with safari theme nursery decor, the room was new, empty, and ready for a transformation. The designer, however, made two minor adaptations to its original look. One was swapping the grey palette for the bright cream one, making the nursery brighter and warmer. The other included replacing light fixtures with more stylish ones. Completed with soothing furniture and decor, the room certainly became a sight to see.

You’ll also see creams and whites be the main color of the nursery, but sage green is brought in through accents such as curtain panels, crib sheets, small accents in wallpaper, etc.

One of my favorite sage green nurseries, the above baby room starts with an off-white, creamy base color and adds accents of sage green. Beautiful sage green curtain panels are the perfect touch and add that dreamy pop of color.

The accent wall is board and batten , with sage green as the bottom color. They chose to add beautiful wallpaper at the top of the board and batten wall, which adds the perfect accent to the space.

The natural wood tone in the floating shelves pairs perfectly with both cream and sage green.

Another perfect board and batten nursery wall! This accent wall is painted sage green, and it’s perfect without any wall decor to stand out on its own. Sherwin Williams “Retreat” is the color that was used in this nursery.

This is another gorgeous sage green nursery! The main color is a creamy white, but the accent wall is shiplapped sage green. Like the prior example, Sherwin Williams’ “Retreat” is used on the accent wall.

I love how the name sign is placed right above the crib. The medium natural wood looks great in a room with sage green. Also, the potted faux plant looks perfect in this space.

Is this wallpaper not perfection in this gorgeous nursery? The board and batten wall is painted a sage green, while the above wallpaper has pops of greens in the leaves. The potted faux plant looks amazing against the wall, as does the “Dream Big” nursery wall art.

We have another board and batten wall idea, but this time the board and batten is painted a bright white. The green pops against the white, making it a dreamy space.

Here is another board and batten accent wall painted sage green. I love the gold name sign on this wall; it blends perfectly with this nursery.

This sage green nursery idea is one of my favorites because it’s so easy to replicate. They used a creamy white for the main paint color and simply painted the accent wall sage green.

The wall decor they used perfectly accents sage green with its browns, natural wood tones, and greens.

I love the modern safari nursery theme, and the above photo is the perfect twist on this classic. The wide shiplap is painted a soft sage green, while the rest of the room is full of creams, tans, and light wood tones.

I am loving the cactus wallpaper above the sage green board and batten wall! It’s so simple and perfect for this room. The name sign also looks great, layered over both parts of the wall.

Another perfect example of a statement wall in a nursery! I love the herringbone design on the sage green nursery wall. Here we see another jungle safari nursery, which I’m loving.

Here’s a great sage green nursery idea for a baby girl’s nursery. Sage green and light pink accent each other well since they are opposite on the color wheel. The light pink pops perfectly against the sage green wall, adding a feminine touch to the room.

This truly may be my favorite nursery using the sage green and white color scheme. I LOVE how they went with whites and creams. They have sailboat wallpaper that looks amazingly subtle in the space. Then they bring in the sage green accents with beautiful curtain panels. Perfection .

Here is another example of bringing sage green in with the accents rather than a large accent wall. The walls in this nursery are painted white, but sage green is brought in with the curtain panels, the crib sheet, and the small details in the nursery rug.

This is a modern touch to a sage green nursery. Greens are brought into the space with wallpaper that shows abstract-like mountains. We’re seeing this design trend in boho-inspired spaces, and I think it looks lovely in a nursery.

This room was created for one of my sisters & her first born son. She graciously allowed me and another sister to make all design decisions. The door remained locked for a month as we worked. We had a baby shower/room reveal just before she was due. She was COMPLETELY SURPRISED!

Design Inspiration

She had a few pieces of hand-me-down furniture (score!) and the rest of the room was a blank canvas (double score!). She had mentioned a few themes she liked, safari being one of them. We choose our colors and went from there!

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

Hands up if you’re ready to be dazzled! From a ceremony structure designed to float on water to a jaw-dropping reception room with flowers blooming from every service, we’re swooning over every bit of this wedding. If you can believe it, that’s just the beginning. Julia Kaptelova artfully shot every detail, like the ballet performance guests were treated to and snow falling from the ceiling for the first dance! From About You Decor … Our design is a symbol of dawn and a distant endless horizon. Ahead is a long, happy life without any borders. An international couple, Pavel and Cherry, met in London and have been walking together for many years.

From the Bride, Cherry… My husband and I we decided to have our summer wedding in Moscow because the city is where his roots are. As we knew we were going to have the other wedding ceremony in China, we wanted our Moscow one to be very personal and intimate. We’ve known each other since we were fourteen, together with many of our friends whom we’ve also known for a decade.

I didn’t want to walk down the aisle twice so the plausibility of my request quickly came into discussion. The open pontoon stage was constructed in order to facilitate the bridal entrance on water, although there were concerns about safety as the last thing we wanted was probably a drowned bride before she could get on stage, picture that! I have to say on that day it wasn’t easy to get on the pontoon stage from the boat, in my long gown and high heels. Luckily my bridesmaids still noticed even though they stood the furthest from me on the stage, and helped me out without prior rehearsal. My girls could just tell whenever I needed a hand or maybe they were just so used to my clumsiness. Who knows 😂

We all love our photographer Julia! She’s so talented and her style is so unique. Our beloved host Alex is exceptional who made everyone laugh and cry. It was truly a blessing to have so many kind and beautiful souls on our big day. Thank you all!

From Sonya Khegay … It was the last day of April and still very cold in the morning. The weather forecast wasn’t pleasing and no one expected that the sun would come out, but miracles happen and light rain gave way to the warm rays.

I love how all the details went together, you could feel the harmony in everything throughout the entire wedding day from the morning until the fireworks.

A gentle look of the bride, elegant but so airy and unique decor, the fresh and light atmosphere of early spring and, of course, true happiness in the eyes. My heart becomes so warm from these memories, it is always a pleasure to see the birth of a new family of two loving hearts.

But add in an amazing firework show to cap off the night and simple just became downright extraordinary. From Lena Eliseeva Photo … This cozy and warm summer wedding of gorgeous Natalia and Anton was in the middle of June. The young couple decided to organize their wedding themselves, and the day was very personal and touching. I am absolutely in love with rustic outdoor weddings, and this one is my favourite because of the free and easy atmosphere.

All the decor excluding the bride’s bouquet was made by a team of ten friends of the bride and groom. And it was charming – a light and beautiful arch, eco-style polygraphy and succulents, candy-bar with caramel apples and berries – sweet joys of summer.

At the end of ceremony the guests tossed up white handkerchiefs embroidered by Natalia’s own hands.

The most touching moment was the happy eyes of the groom’s grandmother, the most estimable person on the wedding. And the fireworks were a bright end to that beautiful day.

From Lena Kozhina … When we met with the couple for the first time, we immediately paid attention to Dima’s behavior towards Julia. There was a feeling of tenderness and awe, and we immediately wanted to recreate this atmosphere of love, care and warmth on their Big Day.

Later, when we had chosen a green meadow and an uncovered pavilion overlooking a lake as the project site, it only highlighted a light summer mood with colorful florals and a great number of natural woods. The name of the site is Fox Lodge and peach-orange color, as one of the Bride’s favorites, set the tone for the whole design – from the invitations, in which we used images of fox cubs to elements of serving guest tables and other decorative elements with the corresponding bright accents.
