12 Best Qatar Tours for Culture, Food & Adventure

Make the most of a short visit to Doha by booking one of these top-rated Qatar tours. This curated list includes the best Doha city tours, desert tours, and day excursions.

Most people’s first experience of Doha will be similar to mine: A brief glimpse of the city caught on an extended layover with Qatar Airways.

Even if you have just one day in Doha , you can still experience a good chunk of the highlights, try plenty of local cuisine, and get a good overall taste for one of the best cities the Middle East has to offer . Doha is big, but the tourist area is quite compact and easy to navigate thanks to a wonderful public transport system.

If you’re on a short stopover (under 36 hours) and want to venture beyond the airport hotel, a city tour is usually a better choice than trying to explore DIY. If it’s summer, a guided excursion is a great way to secure your transportation and minimise your time outside.

Looking for an affordable rental car in Doha? Use Discover Cars to find a great deal .

If you have a bit longer in Qatar and plan on exploring beyond Doha but you don’t want to hire your own car, a tour is pretty much the only way to go. Guided excursions to the north, west coast and Inland Sea are both efficient and affordable.

This curated list of 12 fantastic Doha city tours, desert tours and cultural experiences has something for every traveller.

A few things to consider when planning a Doha day trip

  • Religious holidays and festivals. Tour schedules often change if there’s a festival on and during the Holy Month of Ramadam. Keep this in mind when you’re planning your trip.
  • Day of the week. Many major attractions in Doha (including the souq and the IAM) are closed every Friday morning for prayers. If your tour falls before 1.30pm on a Friday, these places will probably be excluded from the itinerary.
  • Does the price of the tour include entrance fees? If your tour visits a museum, you should double-check to see whether the cost of your ticket is included.
  • Group size. If it’s not a private tour, is there a cap on group size?
  • Is there hotel pick up, or do we rendezvous at a set location? If pick up and drop off isn’t included, you’ll have to make your own way to the meeting point. Doha is very spread out, so this will probably mean having to take a taxi or the metro.
  • Is airport pick up an option? If it is, you can essentially turn any tour into a transit tour – great if you’re on a short layover.
  • Can I get a refund if I change my mind? Plans change, things come up. That’s why I always prefer to book through a third-party agent such as Get Your Guide instead of going direct to the tour company. If you need, you can get a full refund provided you give enough notice (usually 24 hours).

Three men sitting inside the souq in Doha, Qatar.

Camel riding – is it ethical?

A few of the Qatar desert tours on this list include an option for camel riding. I am always the first person to condemn elephant riding and most forms of animal tourism. But camel riding can be done ethically, provided you do your homework on the company. Here are some great tips and things to look out for .

If you don’t feel comfortable riding a camel but your itinerary includes it, remember you can always request to sit out.

QATAR TOURS etiquette – Should you tip your guide?

Tipping is not mandatory in Qatar, but it is appreciated. If you’re happy with the service your tour guided provides, a tip of 10-15% is considered appropriate.

If you have a driver, it’s a nice gesture to also offer them a small tip of a couple of dollars.

Note that local currency (QAR) is preferred, but tips in USD are also welcome.

Best Doha city tours

These 12 wonderful Doha excursions and Qatar tours are the perfect way to get a deeper look at the Gulf nation in a short period of time.

1. Doha City Private Tour

Traditional architecture in Doha, Qatar.

If you’re a first-time visitor to Qatar and your priority is to check off the must-sees, this private tour with leading operator Falcon Tours is the way to go.

The tour lasts for 4 hours, and start times are flexible so you can coordinate your pick up with your arrival/departure. The itinerary is paced well, with plenty of time for exploring Souq Waqif and the Museum of Islamic Art. You’ll be accompanied by an expert local guide who can narrate Doha’s history as you walk and drive around the city.

If it fits with your schedule, I recommend taking one of the later time slots so you can end at the Falcon Souq after dark.

2. City Tour and Dhow Boat Cruise

Wooden boats in front of a modern skyline in Doha, Qatar.

Also offered by Falcon Tours, this 4-hour tour visits Souq Waqif along with 2 attractions in the northern part of the city: Katara Cultural Centre, and The Pearl. After experiencing Doha’s modern side, you’ll board a traditional dhow boat for a cruise around the harbour.

Transportation and pick up is included, but note that this tour is only available in the afternoon between 2pm and 6pm.

3. Private Nighttime City Tour

A beautiful mosque in Doha at night.

Doha has a totally different feel after dark. If the weather is hot or your flight gets in late, an evening tour of the city can give you a totally unique perspective on the Qatari capital.

This tour by air-conditioned car starts at The Pearl, the ultra-modern man-made island in the city’s north, before continuing to Katara Cultural Village and Souq Waqif. You get a private guide, pick up and drop off, and your choice of departure time between 3pm and 7.30pm.

Best specialty Qatar tours for local history, culture & food

4. doha multi-museum cultural tour.

The Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar, a modern white building with rows of palm trees in front.

Tailored for travellers who love to immerse themselves in local culture , this morning tour lasts for 4 hours and covers 4 of the city’s top attractions.

First stop is the Museum of Islamic Art, a must-visit in Doha, where you’ll be greeted by a museum guide who will walk you around the exhibits. Next, you’ll visit the Islamic Centre at Al Fanar for an introduction to Qatar’s state religion, followed by a stop at Msheireb Museum to view a set of restored heritage houses.

At the National Museum of Qatar, you can view a vast collection of artefacts and historical objects that piece together the nation’s history.

5. Katara Cultural Village Tour

Architecture at Katara Cultural Village in Doha.

This quick 2-hour tour is a perfect introduction to Doha’s main cultural precinct . When we visited Katara Cultural Village, we didn’t really know what to look out for – having a local guide with us would have been extremely helpful. On this walking tour of Katara, you’ll have someone there to point out the main attractions and explain their significance.

You’ll also have time to explore three nearby sites: The Pearl, the Porto Arabia Boardwalk and the Marina. Hotel transfers are included in the price.

6. Souq Waqif Traditional Market Tour

Traditional Qatari food.

Experience the last remaining ‘traditional’ souq in the Gulf, Souq Waqif, which has been preserved and restored to retain its authentic character. On this guided market walk you’ll benefit from a local’s knowledge on what foods to try, which shops to browse and what souvenirs to pick up.

Over two hours, you’ll visit the Falcon souq, Spice souq, Gold souq and Handicraft souq. The tour includes pick up and drop-off at your hotel in downtown Doha.

Best Qatar desert tours from Doha

7. half-day private desert safari & inland sea tour.

Camels walking through the desert.

With the benefit of a private guide and flexibility to start the tour whenever you want, this 4-hour desert tour is a great choice for couples or families.

The highlight is two hours of dune bashing with an experienced driver. Speaking from personal experience, rolling up and down massive dunes is an exhilarating and slightly terrifying experience! You’ll also get to experience a short camel ride around Sealine Beach on the way.

Once you reach the Inland Sea (Khor Al Adaid), you’ll be treated to panoramic views of Qatar’s most iconic natural landscape. You’ll then drive a bit further for a view across the border to neighbouring Saudi Arabia.

Hotel pick up and drop off are included, as are refreshments.

8. Desert Safari, Sand-boarding & Inland Sea Tour

This 5-hour tour by Land Cruiser covers a similar itinerary to the tour above, with a stop at Sealine Beach camel station for a short ride before the dune bashing commences. You’ll also get a chance to try sand-boarding – essentially sliding down the dunes with your feet strapped to a flat board.

After the adrenaline rush has settled, you’ll visit Khor Al Adaid, then kick back for the 2-hour return drive to Doha.

9. Sunset Desert Safari with Camel Ride & Sand-boarding

Sunset over the dunes – could it get any better?

Featuring a dune bashing session described as ‘goosebump-inducing’, plus a chance to go sandboarding, this tour is definitely for the most adventurous traveller ! After the hands-on activities, you’ll be transferred to Khor Al Adaid to watch the sunset. The changing light paints the dunes and water an unreal palette of colours. It’s really an unforgettable experience.

Unlimited water and soft drinks are provided, but alcohol is not permitted.

Best day tours beyond Doha

10. zekreet film city & desert sculpture tour.

A sand-coloured fort with a canon out the front.

Located 80km (60 minutes’ drive) from Doha on the country’s western coast, Zekreet isn’t like most Qatari villages. It’s claim to fame isn’t its 18th century fortress, but rather an artificial Arabian village built on the outskirts of town. Film City , as it’s known, was purpose built as a TV set for an Arabic series. It’s since served as a backdrop to several movies and commercials.

On this 4-hour tour departing Doha , you’ll visit the Zekreet Peninsular, tour one of Qatar’s most obscure attractions, and stop off at Brouq Nature Reserve to photograph EAST-WEST / WEST-EAST, a monumental sculpture by American artist Richard Serra (you might have seen his work in the Bilbao Guggenheim in Spain ).

Transport is by air-conditioned 4WD; choose from a morning or afternoon departure depending on the season.

11. Private Tour to the North of Qatar

Northern Qatar is a panorama of rugged desert landscapes and important archaeological sites. If you’re into history, a day trip from Doha to the fortresses and beaches in the north is the perfect excuse to escape the city for a few hours.

This private tour runs for 4.5 hours and packs a lot in. First, you’ll tour the 19th-century Umm Salal Fortress before continuing to the fortress-museum at Al Zubara. The final destination is Ruwais Beach, where you can kick back on the seafront and enjoy a local snack.

Before returning to the city, there’s one final stop in the harbour town of Al Khor.

Best Doha transit tour

12. from doha airport: qatar transit tour.

While you’re waiting for your next flight, you can take advantage of a transit tour to see a small slice of Qatar. This transit itinerary is available any time between 9.30am and 7pm, so you can time it to fit with your flight schedule and not have to stress about making your plane.

Over 4 hours, you’ll be whisked around some of the city’s top sights by air-conditioned car. The Pearl, Doha’s ultra-modern apartment and office development, is the first stop. Take a stroll through nearby Katara Cultural Village, then spend the rest of your short stay in Qatar exploring the enigmatic Souq Waqif.

Once you’ve had your fill of tea and finished your souvenir shopping , you’ll be dropped back off at the airport in time for your next flight.

What to bring on your Doha day trip

  • A reusable water bottle . Absolutely essential in Qatar for staying hydrated. I love my S’Well water bottle – it’s vacuum insulated to keep water icy cold for the whole day, and it doesn’t sweat.
  • Rehydration tablets or sachets. If you’re out dune bashing or hiking, your body will be crying out for electrolytes by the end of your tour (believe me!). I prefer Hydralyte tablets because they come in a handy tube.
  • Sun protection gear . Qatar is hot, and the sun is strong even in winter. Pack a wide-brim hat and sunglasses, and remember to cover up with long, light clothing.
  • A travel scarf (ladies). Very useful for sun protection or if you end up visiting a mosque or local market. This one is perfect for travel and even has a hidden pocket.
  • A sturdy day pack . Pop it all in a day pack and you’re ready for your Qatar tour! I always go for a minimalist backpack when I’m travelling.

Where to stay in Doha

We stayed at Saraya Corniche for two nights during our Doha stopover. Our room was comfortable but a little dated – however, we really loved the central location walking distance from the waterfront and souq.

If we had our time again, we would choose either the InterContinental or Souq Waqif Boutique Hotel . The latter is set right in the heart of the souq and features roomier, more luxe suites than Saraya.

If you’re on a shorter layover and you prefer to stay near the airport, Oryx Transit Hotel is the top choice.

Hi Emily, Why would you recommend to see the Falcon souq when it’s dark? Thanks, Vera

Hi Vera, it’s closed in the middle of the day and in our experience, it was much livelier in the evening. It was still light enough to see everything.

Enjoy your trip!

Ah! Thank you! 🙂

Doha City Tour With Discover Qatar: An Honest Review

Beautiful architecture at Katara cultural village

Would you like to learn more about the Doha City Tour with Discover Qatar? Then you have come to the right place!

If you travel east, chances are that you will use the Doha airport for your connecting flight. You might have a long layover in Doha , with plenty of time to kill before hopping on your next flight.

What better way to spend that time than by getting out of the airport to explore a new city that you wouldn’t visit otherwise?

Discover Qatar offers a 3-hour long city tour of Doha which will take you to the city’s main attractions. I took this tour to check out if it was worth it and the answer is YES !

Although Doha might not be a city that attracts many tourists, it does have some beautiful sights. I really enjoyed gazing at the skyscrapers one moment and visiting the traditional souqs the next.

You will find my experience, along with some useful information in case you want to do the Doha Transit Tour in this post.

Doha city tour with Discover Qatar

The places you will see.

After booking the tour and leaving the airport, I boarded the air-conditioned bus with a small group of people who had booked the same tour.

We met our guide, who told us about the country and explained we’d make four stops. These were the following:

The harbour

Doha city tour: the skyline

After about 15 minutes on the bus, we made our first stop at the Doha harbour, which is right next to the Museum of Islamic Art.

You won’t be able to really check this museum out though, as the bus only makes a 10-minute stop in order for you to snap some pictures of the panoramic skyline , which is the harbour’s highlight.

Katara Cultural Village

Kantara village

My favourite stop was the next one: Katara Cultural Village, which aims to promote cultural awareness in Qatar.

Although everything was closed due to Ramadan, the stunning Arabic-inspired architecture literally made my jaw drop. From its amphitheatre to the beautiful Katara Masjid mosque , the cultural village is definitely worth a visit!

We had some time to walk around and take some pictures here, but I wished we could have stayed a little longer. It’s a very beautiful and photogenic place that I would love to visit again one day.

Doha city tour: The Pearl

Stop number three was The Pearl: an artificial island situated off the coast of Doha. It’s full of yachts and luxurious apartments, restaurants and hotels.

The name “The Pearl” was chosen because it was built on one of Qatar’s previous pearl diving sites. Before the oil boom, the country was one of the main pearl traders in Asia .

We walked around The Pearl for about 20 minutes, which was just enough for me. Then, we hopped on the bus to drive to our final stop.

Souq Waqif

Our last stop was the Soup Waqif, where we had an hour to explore the market. Unlike the souqs I have visited in North Africa, the vendors didn’t aggressively try to get you into their shops and sell you stuff, which was a very nice, refreshing experience.

They sell all kinds of things at Souq Waqif, from souvenirs to clothes, spices and even small animals.

The souq dates back at least a hundred years but it was renovated in 2006 after most of it was destroyed by a fire a few years before.

Here, we had the choice to either take the bus back to the airport or stay in the city and return by ourselves later. I didn’t have that much time left before catching my flight so this is when the Doha city tour stopped for me.

Bus Discover Doha city tour

How to book Discover Qatar’s city tour of Doha

You can book the tour in advance on the Discover Qatar website or go to their counter at the Doha airport.

Follow the A gate and take the first flat escalator (I’m not sure what those things are called in English?). You will find the desk on the left side. This is also the place where the tour leaves.

The 3-hour tour of Doha that I took cost 99 QAR but there are other tours to choose from, depending on the time you have and your budget.

I didn’t have to pay a visa fee, but it depends on your citizenship. You can check if your country belongs to the visa-free countries here .

Tips for the Qatar City Tour

  • Bring water and sunscreen.
  • Always take your valuables with you when you leave the bus.
  • Ask for your tour operator’s contact number if you’re taking the bus back after the last stop. You never know what might happen and the bus doesn’t wait in case you get delayed.

Discover Qatar City Tour: Final thoughts

All in all, I had a great time on the Discover Qatar City Tour!

It takes you to Doha’s highlights and gives you an idea of what the city is like. There were places where I would have loved to stay longer but I know this wasn’t possible due to the limited time you have on a layover.

I would recommend this tour and would do it again in a heartbeat! It’s a great way to make the most of your layover and see a little bit of Doha.

I will have an 8-hour layover in Doha next month and am considering this tour. Is there a place to store one’s carry-on bag at the airport? Or do you bring it on the tour with you?

Hi Nadia, I think there must probably be a place to store your carry-on somewhere at the airport, but I took it with me so I’m not sure. Enjoy Doha!

' src=

Hi… I have a long layover in Doha. Want to leave the airport. I have some questions about you leaving the airport.

Did you have to get recovid tested? Do you need a Qatar SIM card or does the airport Wi-Fi have a strong enough connection for the health app?

Hi Mark, I did this before Covid, so I don’t know about the test. The wifi at the airport was good though!

' src=

Hi Laura, would just like to ask if the Pokefi 5g lte will work on an iPhone 8 and a laptop or does it only work on the latest devices?

Hi Ami, I think it would work because you just need to connect the wifi to start using it. But I would ask the Pokefi client service if you want to be sure. 😉

' src=

Hi Laura. I took the city tour from Qatar Airways 2 weeks ago while my transit in Rwanda. The tour was great but unfortunately it ended with one of the worst experiences in my life. The last station was the market and the tour operator gave us 20 minutes to go around. I lost my way back and I delayed 8 minutes to reach the meeting point. After waiting for 15 minutes, I realized that they left without me with my bag in the bus and without any contact to communicate. All my things (passport, money, credit cards, laptop) were in the bus and with just 8 minutes delay they left without me, in the middle of nowhere. After 1 hour of stress trying to find someone to talk, to find my bag and get back to the airport, I realized that they don’t care about their customers safety and there are no ways to be justified. Moreover, the taxi driver instead of 7 usd, he charged me 20 usd to take me back to the airport. I was charged 100 usd for the calls to find my bag and my way back to the airport.

Hi Nicos, I’m so sorry for what has happened to you, I can imagine that must have been a horrible experience! 🙁 It’s true that there should be a way to contact them in case something like this happens. I know it’s not much, and it certainly doesn’t make anything better, but I’ve added some tips at the end of this post that will hopefully prevent things like this from happening again.

' src=

Hi Nicola, did you have to get COVID tested or download any app in order to travel on the transit tour?

' src=

Hi Laura, thank you for sharing your experience and great information. I have a 12 hour layover at night in DOHA, do I need a transit to do the Discover Doha tour?

Hi Mari, I’m happy it’s helpful! 🙂 I’m not sure I understand what you mean with a transit. If you have a 12-hour layover, you are in transit, so it should be fine (I hope this helps). Also, it depends on the tours, but I see that you’re arriving at night, and for this one, the last one leaves at 9:30 pm. Hope your flight will be there in time!

' src=

after reading your review i also want to book this tour. My flight will arrive at 14:40. How long does it take to get to the Discover Qatar desk? Do i have to go through some security checks first? Do you think, taking flight delays into consideration, i can catch the tour starting from 16:00?

Please let me know – Thank you in advance

Sorry, i meant the tour starting from 18:00 because nowadays they want you to show up 2h prior

Hi Thomas, I didn’t have to go through any checkpoints when I landed in Doha and got to the Discover Qatar desk pretty fast! So I think you will definitely have enough time to catch that tour. Enjoy! 🙂

' src=

I’ve been staying in Doha for sometime for now. I guess you need at least one full day to view major sights of Doha city,

Qatar Transit Tour: Doha City

Qatar is a tiny peninsular Arab nation in the Arabian Gulf bordering Saudi Arabia. Most of the country resides in the capital city of Doha. The economy is nearly 75% based on petrol and natural gas, making this small country the world’s richest nation (GDP per capita).

Over two million people call Qatar home, yet only 20% of the population are Qataris, with a huge population of foreign workers. Qatar has been selected to host the 2022 World Cup, the first in the Arab world. This has resulted in construction projects throughout Doha.

New Doha, known for exotic skyscrapers that rival Dubai, is an extremely modern city built entirely on reclaimed land in 2000. Doha is a regional hub and a common layover with Qatar Airlines. There is an excellent city tour available for those passing through offered by Discover Qatar. Read on to learn more about the Doha city tour.

NEW YORK (AP) — A man and woman who sold pro-Donald Trump merchandise out of a bus covered with pro-Trump flags and posters are homeless after the vehicle crashed into several street signs and utility poles in New York City.

The crash happened around noon on Sunday on Staten Island, the Fire Department said.

Donna Eiden, who had been living in the bus with her husband, Rocky Granata, and their cat, Missy, told the Staten Island Advance that she was sleeping inside the parked vehicle when when it began to roll along Hylan Boulevard, crashing into signs and poles in its path.

Photos of the crash’s aftermath show the side of the bus ripped to shreds and Trump signs scattered about.

“That’s our life, we live in it; we travel in it. I have my daughter’s ashes in it,” Eiden told the Advance. “It’s our business. It’s our life.”

Eiden had to be extracted from the wrecked vehicle, firefighters said. She did not require medical treatment.

The bus had been a frequent presence at Trump rallies around the country before it crashed.

Israel’s war on Gaza updates: Rafah hospital closes due to Israeli bombs

One of city’s two hospitals shut down after Israeli attack kills two medical staff, one day after tent camp massacre.

A young girl being treated at Kuwait Hospital following an Israeli attack on Rafah

This live page is now closed. You can continue to follow our coverage of the war in Gaza here.

  • The Kuwaiti Hospital, one of Rafah’s two remaining hospitals, has been shut down due to Israeli attacks, its director said in a statement. This comes after two hospital medical staff were killed earlier by Israeli shelling.
  • Israeli forces have bombed a tent camp housing displaced people in a designated safe zone in Rafah, killing 45 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The attack has triggered an international outcry, leading to calls for a ceasefire.
  • The attack on the camp in Tal as-Sultan came after Israeli forces bombed shelters housing displaced Palestinians in other areas, including Jabalia, Nuseirat and Gaza City, killing at least 160 others, according to Palestinian officials.
  • Israel’s top military prosecutor described the Rafah attack as “very grave” and said an investigation is under way. Earlier, the Israeli military confirmed the attack, saying it targeted Hamas fighters.
  • At least 36,050 Palestinians have been killed and 81,026 people have been wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from Hamas’s attack on that date stands at 1,139, with dozens still held captive.

That’s a wrap for today

Thank you for joining us for real-time updates on everything related to Israel’s war on Gaza.

Here’s what happened today

We will be closing this live page soon. Here is a recap of today’s events:

  • The death toll from Israel’s bombing of a tent camp housing displaced people in a designated safe zone in Rafah is now 45, most of them women and children, leading to international outcry.
  • Netanyahu called the deadly attack a “tragic incident” that his government is “investigating”.
  • The Kuwaiti Hospital in Rafah has been rendered non-operational, according to its director, due to intentional attacks by Israeli forces on the hospital’s staff and the surrounding area.
  • Algeria has requested an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to discuss the situation in Rafah.
  • The Iran-aligned Lebanese group Hezbollah says it has launched a barrage of rockets at northern Israel in response to a deadly Israeli strike outside a south Lebanon hospital earlier in the day.

Civil Defence reports Israeli attack on Gaza City

The organisation says via a statement on its official Telegram channel that its crews are searching through rubble for survivors after the Israeli army attacked the Daraj neighbourhood of Gaza City, in the northern Strip.

The statement adds that the strike was on a home belonging to the al-Ghussein family.

A video shared by the group shows its crews and other volunteers crouching in piles of rubble, shouting into the ground to try to contact survivors of the attack.

Palestinians continue to flee Rafah through the night

A video posted on Instagram by Palestinian journalists shows groups of people leaving their place of shelter in Rafah amid intense clashes and bombing in the city under cover of darkness.

The journalists say this footage, which has been verified by Al Jazeera, was taken after midnight local time (21:00 GMT).

WATCH: Family displaced for eighth time in Gaza

The Salman family wants the world to know they’ve been displaced eight times since Israel’s war on Gaza began.

As they packed up what’s left of their charred belongings following Israel’s latest attack on Rafah, they compared the military assistance given to Israel with the meagre food aid provided to Palestinians and asked if they’ll ever have anywhere safe to live again.

Watch our video report below:

Demonstrators take to streets in northern UK city

Hundreds of demonstrators, if not thousands, have marched in the United Kingdom’s city of Manchester following the attack on a tent camp in Rafah yesterday.

Protesters carried banners that read “Stop Arming Israel” and “Ceasefire Now”, footage shared online showed, as they shouted slogans calling for the end of the occupation of Palestinian territory.

Islamic Resistance in Iraq targets Israel

The Iraqi group, aligned with Iran, says via a statement that it launched three drones at the Israeli city of Eliat, aiming at military targets.

Local Israeli media reports that all three drones were intercepted as air raid sirens sounded in the city.

Footage posted by Israeli Army Radio shows the interception of one of the drones by Israeli air defences:

Netanyahu’s ‘reckless pursuit’ of Hamas caused deaths of innocents: US lawmaker

Citing the attack on the tent camp in Rafah, which killed 45 people, US Congressman Eric Swalwell says, “The same tactics by the same leaders will only produce same or worse results”.

“Netanayhu’s [sic] reckless prosecution of Hamas has killed Israeli hostages, aid workers, and innocent Palestinians. And nothing changes,” the Democratic Party lawmaker said in a post on X.

Democratic US President Joe Biden has publicly opposed Israel’s offensive in Rafah, and his administration suspended one shipment of weapons to Israel over its concerns.

Yet, despite saying in early May that he would withhold more weapons if the country went ahead with a large-scale operation in Rafah, Biden has largely backed away from using such leverage even as Israeli leaders rejected Washington’s warnings.

Demonstrators gather during a protest in support of Palestinians in Gaza and to condemn the Israeli air strikes in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah, outside Al Kalouti mosque near the Israeli embassy in Amman, Jordan May 27, 2024.

Several deaths reported in another Israeli attack on Rafah

Israeli forces have attacked a house in the al-Hashashin area, in the north of the city, killing and wounding several people, according to local sources.

Footage obtained by Al Jazeera shows those wounded arriving at the Al-Helal Al-Emairati Maternity Hospital, including children.

One resident said the shelling hit an area populated by displaced civilians and tents, noting that residents transported the wounded in civilian vehicles before ambulance teams rushed to the area.

We will bring you more as further information comes in.

UN chief condemns Israeli bombing of Rafah displacement camp

Antonio Guterres says the attack “killed scores of innocent civilians who were only seeking shelter from this deadly conflict”.

“There is no safe place in Gaza. This horror must stop,” Guterres added in a post on X.

Belgium’s deputy PM calls for sanctions on Israel

In a one-sentence post on X, Petra De Sutter says: “The time for sanctions is now”.

Israeli bombardment of Rafah ongoing

We earlier reported on an Israeli raid targeting a residential building at the Za’roub Roundabout, in the west of the city.

Our Al Jazeera Arabic colleagues are now reporting that Israeli artillery shelling has hit homes in the Saudi neighbourhood, also situated west of Rafah.

We will bring you more on this as more information comes in.

Turkey defends Erdogan against Israeli minister’s remarks

The Turkish foreign ministry has slammed comments by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz earlier today, calling his tone towards President Recep Tayyip Erdogan “disrespectful”.

“Unfounded accusations towards our President are a useless effort to change the agenda regarding the crimes committed by Israel in Palestine,” the ministry said in a statement.

“It is the Netanyahu Government that has killed nearly forty thousand Palestinians since October and barbarically massacred dozens of innocent Palestinians in an attack on a tent camp last night. Anyone who is complicit in these crimes will be tried in international courts.”

Algeria requests UNSC meeting on Rafah massacre

Algeria has requested an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to discuss the situation in Rafah, one day after Israeli strikes on a displacement camp there killed at least 45 people.

The meeting is expected to take place tomorrow at 19:00 GMT and will be a closed consultation, during which no resolutions can be voted on, only tabled and then voted on later.

The UNSC will also be briefed by Juliette Touma, director of communications for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Canada does not support Israeli operation in Rafah: Minister

Canada is “horrified” by an Israeli air strike that hit a tent camp in Rafah, Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said, calling for an “immediate ceasefire”.

“Canada does not support an Israeli military operation in Rafah. This level of human suffering must come to an end,” Joly said in a post on X.

Israeli forces target residential apartment in Rafah

US says drone shot down over Red Sea

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) says it has destroyed one uncrewed aerial system (UAS) launched from an area controlled by Yemen’s Houthi group.

“It was determined the UAS presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels in the region,” it said in a post on X.

Houthi forces in Yemen have been waging a months-long campaign to target shipping vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden which the Houthis say have links to Israeli firms or ports. Houthi leaders say their attacks on shipping will end when Israel ends its war on Gaza.

EU foreign ministers to meet Israel on human rights obligations: Report

European Union foreign ministers have agreed to hold a meeting of the EU-Israel Association Council to assess Israel’s compliance with the association agreement’s human rights obligations, DPA news agency is reporting.

The bloc’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, announced the move in Brussels, stepping up pressure on Israel to comply with a ruling from the International Court of Justice to halt an offensive in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.

The ICJ ruling cited “immense risk” to hundreds of thousands of Palestinians taking shelter in Rafah, the southernmost part of Gaza.

Counter to the ICJ ruling, Israel has carried out “an increase on the military activities, an increase in the bombing” that has led to an increase in civilian deaths, Borrell said.

The EU foreign policy chief said EU foreign ministers asked him “to propose further concrete measures” to ensure Israel’s compliance with the ICJ ruling.

UN relief chief condemns tent attack in Rafah

“Another grim update from Gaza. Israel’s airstrike on Rafah last night reportedly killed scores of people, many of them women and children burned alive,” Martin Griffiths says in a post on X.

Griffiths, head of United Nations emergency relief, called for immediate action to protect civilians, ensure their safety and give them access to aid.

“We’re still unable to pick up goods from Kerem Shalom [Karem Abu Salem crossing] at the scale needed due to impediments and active fighting,” he added.

Rafah hospital out of service: Official

The Kuwaiti Hospital in the southern Gaza city has been rendered non-operational, according to its director, due to intentional attacks by Israeli forces on the hospital’s staff and the surrounding area.

“Due to the enemy’s expansion of the military operation in Rafah Governorate and the repeated and deliberate attacks on the hospital’s surroundings, the most recent of which was targeting the hospital gate, which led to the death of two staff working in the hospital, as well as the injury of 5 medical staff in a previous targeting, we announce that the Kuwait Specialized Hospital will be out of service,” Dr Suhaib al-Hams said in a statement.

“The working medical teams were transferred to the field hospital, which is being prepared in the al-Mawasi area” on Gaza’s coast, he added.

This statement follows an Israeli attack on a displacement camp in Rafah on Sunday night, with some of those injured being transported to the Kuwaiti Hospital.

Qatar’s PM condemns Israeli Rafah massacre in meeting with Arab foreign ministers

Qatar’s prime minister, who also serves as its foreign minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, says in a brief post on X that he met with foreign ministers of the Arab Committee on the sidelines of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers, in order to “exchange views on the situation in the Middle East”.

He said that during this meeting, he confirmed Qatar’s “condemnation of the Israeli army’s aggression against a refugee camp in the city of Rafah, and in the entire Gaza Strip, and its continued violation of international law”.

Last night, the Israeli army bombed a camp housing displaced Palestinians in Rafah, killing at least 45, mostly women and children. This attack came on the heels of an order from the International Court of Justice late last week for Israel to cease its offensive on Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

Woman struck & killed by train in mexico while trying to take selfie, tragic death woman struck & killed by train ... while trying to take selfie.

A woman suffered a tragic accident in Mexico that ended with her losing her life -- this while trying to capture a photo while a train passed ... which ended up hitting and killing her.

As documented in new harrowing footage that's making the rounds ... a 29-year-old woman in Hidalgo, Mexico recently approached a railway track to take a selfie as the CPKC's Final Spike Steam Tour train plowed ahead at full speed.

While the train blasted its horn near the gathering fans -- who came together to witness the train on its famous journey from Canada to Mexico City, a major attraction for locals -- the woman didn't move far enough out of the way ... and she was struck straight in the head.

The woman instantly fell forward and went limp, clearly unconscious ... with bystanders immediately rushing to her aid -- but unfortunately, the damage had been done.

Reports say first responders who arrived at the scene pronounced her dead. Her family was reportedly with her at the train track in Hidalgo.

CPKC has confirmed an investigation is underway, adding in a statement ... "We are deeply saddened by this loss of life and wish to express our condolences to the woman’s family and loved ones."

They add, "For their own safety and that of the crews, all spectators looking at any train must always remain at least 10 meters back from the train and the tracks. Spectators must never stand on railway tracks, try to board rail equipment or climb on rail infrastructure.

Finally, CPKC said ... "Always use caution around tracks and trains." A cautionary tale, indeed.
