Speaking to Kerrang! at the start of 2023 about The Jaws Of Life and Pierce The Veil’s latest chapter, frontman Vic Fuentes enthused: “My hands wanted to play something else: they wanted to play different styles. The thing that we really talked about and set out to do was to do everything fresh and have a new experience, really. I think our band needed that. I think we were craving something fresh-feeling and to keep things exciting. It’s been awesome. It’s just been such a rejuvenating experience for our band.”

Pierce the Veil Tour

Pierce the Veil is an American post-hardcore band from San Diego, California. Formed in 2007, the group was founded by brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes after the disbandment of the group Before Today (formerly Early Times), which was formed out of the San Diego punk rock scene. Other members of the band include Jaime Preciado (bassist and backing vocals) and Tony Perry (lead guitar). Pierce the Veil has released three studio albums and has continuously been inducted into several worldwide tours since the release of their debut album, A Flair for the Dramatic in 2007. The band released their second full-length studio album, titled Selfish Machines in 2010. Their third and latest album, Collide with the Sky, was released in 2012, and is their first album under the major record label Fearless Records.

Early years and A Flair for the Dramatic (2007–2009)

Pierce the Veil was founded by Mike Fuentes and Vic Fuentes in 2007, after the disbandment of Before Today. The brothers continued to write songs together and eventually came up with enough material for a new full-length album. Still backed by their label, Equal Vision Records, they wrote and recorded an entire album on their own in Seattle, WA with Producer Casey Bates. The brothers released the album A Flair for the Dramatic on June 26, 2007 under a new name: Pierce the Veil, which is derived from two songs from Before Today’s album, ‘A Celebration of an Ending’&’A Giant Purple Fox of Fright’. Soon after, Pierce the Veil acquired new members Tony Perry (guitar) and Jaime Preciado (bass). The song “I’d Rather Die Than Be Famous” from this album was featured in the game Tony Hawks Proving Ground. Pierce the Veil toured vigorously for about 3 months after the release of A Flair for the Dramatic. They have toured with bands such as All Time Low, Sleeping With Sirens, A Day to Remember, Chiodos, From First to Last, Emery, The Devil Wears Prada and Mayday Parade.

In November 2007, Pierce the Veil performed one date on the Vans Warped Tour 2007, and were on the entire tour in 2008. They also played the Bamboozle Left in 2008. Their first headlining tour, called The Delicious Tour, which took place in October–November 2008, featured Breathe Carolina, Four Letter Lie and Emarosa. They ended their record cycle with the Taste of Chaos 2009 tour along with Bring Me the Horizon, Thursday, Four Year Strong and Cancer Bats. Vic and Mike Fuentes with Ayrton Jara confirmed to be included in the new project and supergroup Isles & Glaciers, featuring vocalists Craig Owens of D.R.U.G.S. and Jonny Craig of Dance Gavin Dance and formerly of Emarosa. The “supergroup” released its first EP titled The Hearts of Lonely People on March 9, 2010. However Isles & Glaciers has broken up, saying “Isles & Glaciers was only a one time thing”.

Selfish Machines (2009–2011)

During August 2009, Pierce the Veil announced that they were currently in studio recording new material for their next album. After a few months off the road and building anticipation for their sophomore release, the band moved to Los Angeles to record their album Selfish Machines with Producer Mike Green. Singer and lyricist Vic Fuentes stated, “The title refers to human nature and the animal-like qualities inside all of us that we try and hide, but should just learn to accept. We are all selfish machines and we all have natural tendencies to want, love, and take.” Selfish Machines was released on June 21, 2010 under Equal Vision Records and made it to No. 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. In support of the release, the band played a number of festivals including Bamboozle Left, South by Southwest, Never Say Never Festival, and the Vans Warped Tour. The band also contributed a cover of Blue Öyster Cult’s classic song “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” to the Punk Goes Classic Rock compilation, released on April 27, 2010. They were a part of the Take Action Tour with Attack Attack! that went to New Zealand and Australia, and also played on the Versus Tour in Japan with Confide. They played the “This Is a Family Tour” with Emmure, In Fear and Faith, Of Mice & Men, and Attack Attack!, which lasted until late December 2010.

Pierce the Veil also played at the Fox Theater in Pomona as a surprise appearance as part of the Alternative Press Tour 2010 with bands such as August Burns Red, Bring Me the Horizon, Polar Bear Club, Emarosa, and This Is Hell. On November 1, 2010, the band announced that they will be kicking off 2011 touring with Silverstein, Miss May I, The Chariot, and A Bullet for Pretty Boy on the “Winterizer Tour”. Throughout March and April, “The Gamechanger’s Tour” with A Day to Remember, Bring Me the Horizon, and label mates We Came as Romans followed. They also co-headlined the second leg of Escape the Fate’s headlining tour “The Dead Masquerade”. After taking the summer off to spend some more time on writing new material, the band was supposed to head out on their first ever South American Tour supporting Sum 41 in September; however, due to illness of Sum 41’s frontman, the tour was cancelled. They finished up the year touring Europe with blessthefall and co-headlined the No Guts No Glory Tour with Miss May I afterwards. They once again contributed to an “Punk goes…” album, Punk Goes Pop 4, covering the song “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars, which was released on November 21, 2011.

Fearless Records and Collide with the Sky (2011–present)

On August 23, 2011, Pierce the Veil signed with Fearless Records. On December 22, 2011, a video update revealed in that in early 2012, the band will be going into the studio to record their 3rd studio album. On December 26, 2011, Vic Fuentes announced on the band’s Facebook page that the band is finishing up writing the songs for their third album, which they began writing during the summer and while on tour with Miss May I, Woe Is Me, The Amity Affliction and letlive during November–December, and that now they’ll be picking a producer to work with them on the album in early 2012. On February 27, 2012, The band issued an update on their official Facebook page stating that they have chosen to work with producers Dan Korneff and Kato Khandwala at the House of Loud in New Jersey, on their upcoming third album. On April 20, 2012, it was announced that the new album would be titled Collide with the Sky and would be released through Fearless Records on July 17, 2012. On May 17, 2012, the album cover as well as the tracklist of the new album were revealed, together with the announcement of the band’s first ever UK headlining tour in September 2012. The first single from the new album, King for a Day, features Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens and was released on June 5, 2012, followed by the second single, Bulls in the Bronx, three weeks later on June 26, 2012.

In order to promote the album, the band appeared on the Vans Warped Tour from June, 16 to August 5, 2012, playing the event’s main stage for the first time. They were regularly joined on stage by Kellin Quinn to perform King for a Day together. After Warped, Pierce the Veil embarked on their first headlining tour in the UK, selling out almost all of the dates. Their following headlining tour in the US, The Collide With The Sky tour, saw a similar success. They ended the year appearing at #33 in Rock Sound magazine’s best albums of 2012 list as well as winning nine categories in the best of 2012 reader’s poll conducted by Alternative Press, including Best Live Band of the Year, Album of the Year and Artist of the Year. On January 9, 2013 Vic Fuentes released information that he had recently been in the studio writing new songs with Tom Denney.

On January 7, 2013, Pierce the Veil and pop-punk band All Time Low announced that they would be co-headlining the Spring Fever Tour that spring. Both bands toured across the United States, along with opening acts Mayday Parade and You Me At Six. The tour began on April 11, 2013 and ended on May 12, 2013. Toward the end of the tour, on May 7, 2013, the music video for Pierce the Veil’s song “Bulls in the Bronx” was released.

Rising from the ashes of former band ‘Before Today’, brothers Mike and Vic Fuentes formed Pierce The Veil and have reached heights they never would have thought possible.

The San Diego siblings formed the band in 2007 and with the support of their old label Equal Vision recorded an album’s worth of tracks just between the two of them. That album became ‘A Flair For The Dramatic’ and, after adding new members Tony Perry and Jamie Preciado, they began to build their profile with relentless touring.

They played shows throughout 2007, 2008 and some of 2009 including high profile dates on The Warped Tour and with the likes of ‘A Day To Remember’ and ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ amongst others.

Vic and Mike somehow found the time within all that touring to partner up with the likes Craig Owens and Johnny Craig to form supergroup ‘Isles & Glaciers’ however the group disbanded soon after their only release, 2010’s ‘The Hearts of Lonely People’ – some things are too good to last.

2010 also saw the band back in the studio recording what would become ‘Selfish Machines’ which went to number one on the Billboard Heatseekers Charts. And what would they do next? Well a load more touring of course!

This next wave of touring carried them through into 2012 when they released ‘Collide With The Sky’ and saw the band reach new highs of popularity. The album entered the Billboard 200 at number 12 and went on to over 100,000 copies. After winning RockSound’s band of the year in 2013, the band’s popularity continues to grow as they are really a testament to what can occur when siblings get on!

Live reviews

PIERCE THE VEIL, one of the bed concerts ice been to. I drove from Cleveland Ohio to Lancaster PA to see pierce the veil live on November 19th, at first I was a little hesitant because it was an 8 hour drive, but once I arrived I realized it was well worth the wait. Downtown Lancaster its self is such a nice city and when I got to the concert the building was a perfect set up. You could of sat in the back of the room listening to the music buying merch and drinks or go into the huge crowd and jumped around trying to fight for the front. The opening acts, this is wild life and bear tooth both did an amazing job starting of the shoe and getting everyone pumped for the headliners, them sleeping with sirens came out and like usual, they killed it. In the middle of the show they even took shots on stage and had the whole crowd sing happy birthday to Justin, sleeping with sirens ended and it was about a 20-25 minute wait for ptv to come on stage buy once they were ready you couldn't complain. Once the curtains were up pierce the veil started rocking out with a bunch of colorful lights and confetti pouring from the ceiling. They did an amazing job Of talking to the crowd and Tony and Jaime were throwing guitar picks for fans, they loved the crowd surfers and at one point Vic picked someone from the crowd to actually come up on stage and he sang to them, it was wonderful. Vic has a beautiful voice Tony killed it on the guitar, Jaime was rocking out on the bass and mike is a drum god, overall it was such an amazing expierence and defiantly well worth the long drive and fight to the front. I would defiantly without a doubt go see these bands again and highly recommend it to any fan. Unbelievable expierence, thank you so much pierce the veil, sleeping with sirens, bear tooth, and this is wildlife. I love you all

So I was just happily browsing the internet one day when I realised that Pierce The Veil With Sleeping With Sirens were coming to London but all the tickets were sold out!

I headed on over to stubhub to grab some tickets and managed to get three standing for the 10th of April! I was so damn excited I was counting down the days!

So when the day finally came we arrived an hour before and lined up. The line was only around 45 minutes long, which was great! But when we finally reached the place to get our tickets scanned... my boyfriend had lost both mine and his and only my dad's was left!

I was so annoyed I was having a panic attack. The concert I was excited for over half a year before was now over because he lost the tickets!

Luckily, whilst I went to the little girls room (by now, because I had drunk so much before we left, I thought I was going to burst) my dad bought two more tickets for half the price I paid! Like seriously -_- I was so annoyed but so happy to get in!

Luckily the amazingly lovely man who had let me into the concert hall to go to the bath room let us in straight away so we didn't have to queue up again!

By the end I had had an amazing night and my boyfriend had managed to capture one of Jaime's Picks and we had moshed all night!

My dad was so amazing for buying the tickets again, but I owe the man who let us in more than I can put into words. Without him I never would have gotten in! I wish I could thank him!

Well the concert i got in line around 4. and it was a pretty long wait but they started letting everyone in around 6:30 and i got amazing seats right behind vip but lets take into consideration my first concert so when Mallory Knox started playing (having no clue) i was in the middle of a moshpit knowing that it consists of people running into each yeah not for me but anyways i get out and move myself to the front as close i can. Mallory knox was great!! I give them respect bc this girl was having a panic attack and security was no where to be found so we yelled at Mallory Knox (while they were in the middle of their first song btrw) and telling them to stop and we finally got the frontmans attetntion and he got security over there and i hoppe the girl is okay. After they took her they came back to playing. After Mallory Knox set was over it was Pvris ( I got to meet them best time ever btw) and while we were waiting these moms in the front wanted to leave and its so hard bc knowing people are pushing to get to the front and yopure trying to leave welll it was hard. They got into an argument with some 32 year old and finally they left. ptv went on and omg amazing there was space to jump around and i had an amaazing time for both ptv and sws. I went 2/24 in miami @the fillmore. It was amazing and i would love to go again!! loved seeing my fav bands for the first time. I had an amazing night

I honestly loved the show so much! This was actually my first concert ever. I honestly wish I could've been closer than I already was, just from three people ha. I loved the opening show. That night will always be a memorable moment! I loved how Vic invited a fan up to the stage. When I got there I was in such shivers, the show was so amazing that I literally cried going home and especially when Vic liked my post ☺️. Though I wish that they could've played more songs, that was the only thing I really didn't like. The most facinating part was when they had came back after the crowd shouting to want another song! I honestly just thought of that moment as the best, most memorable concert ever!! I especially loved how that the band merchandise didn't cost much. Those were good prices for everything. I wish that I had stayed after to meet the band! I have no use of words to describe how much I loved the show. Everything, I mean everything was fantastic. Hopefully I will go to their next and many more! I truly had a great experience, I don't think anything had gone wrong, but the timing wasn't. I'm definitely attending their next! My review is just saying I honestly enjoyed the show ❤️. I hope they can see my review and just know there is no words to describe their performance that night. Can't wait for them to come back to Atlanta :) !

Pierce the Veil became my favourite band in just 2012. The fact that, two weeks later I had booked tickets to see them surely highlights how incredible they truly are. Pierce the Veil gained a lot of popularity with newest album 'Collide With the Sky' but still manage to play venues as intimate as the Camden Koko. Funnily enough, I saw them on bassist Jaime's birthday. Furthermore, he had broken his leg merely days before, but that didn't stop him from giving the greatest performance possible. In fact, everything about the show was brilliant. Endless interaction with the crowd ranging from 'It's pronounced Hi-Me!' To 'I'm doing this one acoustic so I can hear all your beautiful voices' Pierce the Veil make their shows as fun as possible for anyone attending. There were laser lights, there were drumsticks and at least ten minutes dedicated to watching Jaime throw pics at people. There was a lot of fun. They played the classics, ending with an explosive encore of 'King for a Day,' and it's obvious how much effort they put into making sure that the crowd enjoy themselves. Full of homemade confetti, torches tied to the ends of guitars and a group photo to end the night, Pierce the Veil make their low-key show a great and unforgettable experience.

The Pierce The Veil show was beyond AMAZING!! It was my FIRST concert ever!!... I had such a great time, except that, people kept pushing back and forth, and I couldn't meet the actual members!... But that's okay, I guess!... I'm lucky enough To see them live!... I totally recommend people to see Pierce the veil love, especially if you love rock music, like me

Maybe even next time they're on tour, I'll see them again! And maybe even meet them!... I'm such a CRAZY fangirl! You don't even know!.. Vic Fuentes (Lead singer) sang so beautiful and Jaime and Tony (guitarist) played Soo amazing! And Mikey Fuentes (drummer, Vic's bother) played the drums incredible!!! I was so amazed!! They're such a great band!!

Also known As SEXICANS (sexy Mexicans)!!!

"Save yourself, don't ever look back"

"Back when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore, but somedays I sit and wish I was a kid again"

"I can't deny it's getting worse,Trust me this is a blessing and a curse"

Thanks to my sister in America I got to know about this band and then later on I found out that they were coming to Denmark! I am beyond happy! They are so nice and down to earth and they even dedicated a song to us who were there! They played all of my favorite songs

OMG!!!! This was an awesome concert!!! I Came to know about this band from my awesome sister Marissa! and I had listened to their music a lot.. I mean A LOT before going to their concert and I must say this... THEY BLEW ME AWAY! They are awesome on cd but even better live! This was love!! They played all my favorite songs smile emoticon:) and they dedicated a song for us! And a fan Came on stage during bulletproof love smile emoticon:) they talked to us like we had been friends like forever! A couple of fans threw their bra's up on stage xD Vic and Jaime got them but decided to tease Mike by saying it was stuff to hang on his drums and after maybe put them on xD lol! And another fan FaceTimed a little during concert and Vic noticed it so he took the phone and said hi to the person on the other side of the screen and let the others and all of us say hi too smile emoticon:)

If I ever get the chance to see them live again I absolutely will

I saw pierce the veil preform in Stockholm, Sweden, the 15 november 2016. I had already seen them one year ago, when they toured with sleeping with sirens, so I had high expectations and knew that it would be an experience remembered for life. Me and my friend got really close to the stage somehow without pushing or anything. Pierce the veil, in my opinion have probably one of the best audience in the world. Everyone are really friendly and share the same passion for music. It took a while before they acually came out on stage. However, Vic sang both new and old songs, told some jokes on the way and even brought one from the audience up on stage! I think that Vic and his band are truely talanted when it comes to writting songs. I admire this band more than ever. With that being said, the concert was a blast, I'm sad that not all the tickets were sold out and if you are planning not to go then I think that you're missing out on an incredible experience. Hope to see this band again.

I confidently consider myself a gigging enthusiast, having been to dozens of shows and venues, seeing many of my favourite bands and leaving with a profound feeling of happiness that I'd just had a great experience. But no show has left an impact like PTV's at the Brixton Academy.

Their show was completely unique, fantastically vibrant, and filled with so much passion from the band, pouring every ounce of creativity into the stage design and setlist. If you missed this show, I'm afraid to say you missed a once in a lifetime opportunity to see a collective of diehard fans and a band who in return have put everything up fore their fans to create the greatest gig and night ever. I don't say this lightly.

I'm not their biggest fan, and don't even know half the lyrics to their songs, but the entire shows execution was a cut above the bands I know inside out and consider to be my absolute favourites. Don't miss these guys if you have the chance.

the concert overall was amazingl, Mallory Knox weren't as bad as I thought they'd be.

Pvris was as bomb as I expected them to be.

And of course, PTV was great, Tony threw me a pick and I got a video of Mike running around on stage in what appeared to be swim trunks *~* Then one of my friends' friend got to go on stage while Vic sung Bulletproof Love to her.

Nick Martin from SWS is fucking amazing! He's really cool, he kept coming over to the corner where me and a smaller crowd was standing and playing around. He threw me his water bottle, and at the end of the concert, he grabbed my hand, gave me the setlist, then closed it in my hand so no one could take it. (people were pretty grabby).

I ended up being splattered with glitter from some assholes who were bullying this one girl...but again, overall

Concert=amazing

"'Pass the Nirvana' is about the many horrible traumas that the youth of America have endured over the past few years," says frontman Vic Fuentes about the song's powerful, relatable, and topical subject matter. "COVID, no proms, no graduations, an insurrection, school shootings. The list goes on. Their lives have been tossed around like clothes in a dryer, as the tensions within our country have infiltrated our own homes, friends, and families. To me, the song represents a euphoric detachment from all of that anxiety and stress and about finding some form of peace or nirvana."

Pierce The Veil just played their first show on the much-anticipated The Jaws of Life Tour! On November 4th, the SoCal rock group performed in Wheatland, CA, for a metalcore-meets-pop-punk mashup that had the crowd feeling every type of way. Call them emo, post-hardcore, pop-punk, or even grunge…Pierce The Veil is perfectly okay with all of it. And their versatility took center stage with a 16-song setlist that encompassed every era of their career. The first five songs spanned over a decade, starting with 2010’s screamy hit “Caraphernelia” and 2012’s emo favorite “A Match Into Water,” before they dove into new songs from their fifth album, The Jaws of Life . Which also happens to be their first new record in seven years.

For those who don’t know, 2023 has been the ultimate comeback year for Pierce The Veil. After a years-long hiatus from performing and recording, they released their new project last February! They also hit the road with The Used, played at When We Were Young Festival not once but twice, and were announced as support for the 2024 Blink 182 stadium tour. Not a bad way to return to the rock scene, right? But once you’ve seen a Pierce The Veil concert, it becomes obvious that they never truly left. Vic Fuentes and his bandmates are emo royalty who have mastered the art of blending genres, headbanging, and screaming then singing for a performance that’s exciting at every turn. And if things weren’t intoxicating enough on the first night of the Pierce The Veil tour, they turned things up even further with a few incredible live debuts.

These include “Resilience,” “So Far So Fake,” “The Jaws of Life,” and “Resilience” with guest vocals from Chloe Moriondo, all new tracks played for the very first time in Wheatland. Fans got a firsthand look into Pierce The Veil’s new musical style, mixing a bit of grunge into their signature SoCal rock, and they liked every last second of it! As for the older fans who have been around since Pierce The Veil formed in San Diego nearly two decades ago? Have no fear, as they still got a taste of emo nostalgia in the form of classic tracks like “Bulletproof Love,” “Hold On Till May,” “Hell Above,” and “May These Noises Startle You In Your Sleep Tonight.” Of course, both longtime and newer fans came together in mosh-worthy harmony during the encore! Pierce The Veil played “Besitos” for the first time since 2013 before launching into arguably their most famous song ever, “King For A Day.” Fans already loved the track when it was released over ten years ago, complete with an edge-of-your-seat music video featuring Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens. But the track recentlly had a resurgence after it went viral on TikTok, leading to “King For A Day” reaching No. 1 on Billboard’s Hard Rock Streaming Songs Chart in August 2022 (a full decade after its release). As fans of all ages crowd-surfed and sang along to his undeniably catchy song, they had only one question…how did they go nearly a decade without a Pierce The Veil concert? Luckily, the group is back and better than ever, and there’s plenty of chances to see them in 2023 and 2024. Check out the full Wheatland setlist here .

ABOUT PIERCE THE VEIL:

Pierce The Veil have debuted atop Billboard ’s Top Rock Albums, Alternative Albums, and Hard Rock Albums charts twice — first with Collide with the Sky (2012) and its follow-up, Misadventures (2016). A decade after its release, the already-platinum "King for a Day" shot to No. 1 on Billboard ’s Hard Rock Streaming chart, driven by the viral #KingForADay hashtag on TikTok. Even with two gold singles; a gold album; 2023 could be their biggest year. Because this is the year of The Jaws of Life.

The band Rolling Stone once described as "hyperactive, progressive post-hardcore," returns with album number five, and it’s full of fuzzy guitars, massive melodic hooks, and PTV’s distinct emotional heart. The Jaws of Life is Pierce The Veil at their most raw, crackling with urgency and immediacy. Never predictable, always engaging, Pierce The Veil continue to soar on the strength of highly potent energy, rich musicality, and a scrappy sense of authentic exuberant ambition that's frankly unrivaled. Vic Fuentes, Tony Perry, and Jaime Preciado put volatile, angsty, confessional emotions into the music, which is why their songs resonant with so many. "No matter where the band performs, fans will show up," wrote Loudwire . "When you see Pierce The Veil live, you'll understand why."

PTV’s evolution from album to album is nothing less than stunning. The early buzz generated by A Flair for the Dramatic (2007) made its follow-up one of the most anticipated albums of 2010. Selfish Machines shot to No. 1 on Billboard' s Heatseekers chart. The Chicago Tribune saluted Collide with the Sky for its “post-hardcore punk with more than a few nods to Queen.” They became a true arena act on Misadventures , selling out huge venues without losing the intimate connection with their fans.

Pierce the Veil have long cemented their status as one of the most exciting and relevant acts in their genre — by constantly evolving. With their new album The Jaws of Life debuted at No. 1 on the Hard Music Chart, as well is in the Top 3 of the Rock, Alternative, Independent, Vinyl, and Album Sales charts upon release. The album also received press accolades from Rolling Stone, Uproxx, Gawker, The Huffington Post , and Associated Press . The single "Emergency Contact" landed in the Top 5 at Alternative Radio, while selling out tours with I Prevail and The Used. They've tallied over 2 billion streams and 500 million YouTube and have earned multiple Gold and Platinum RIAA certifications — proving that growth is a constant for them!

The Jaws of Life was produced by Paul Meany (Twenty One Pilots, Yungblud, and Walk The Moon), and mixed by Adam Hawkins (Machine Gun Kelly, Turnstile, Twenty One Pilots). Deadly serious subject matter abounds, but Pierce The Veil enduringly navigates it all with grace. The lyrics continue the Fuentes tradition of painstaking honesty and clever twists of phrase. Pierce The Veil performs at the biggest festivals and is counted among the biggest and brightest of a younger generation of bands. But it all starts with the songs. The Jaws of Life is filled with the kind to keep the PTV fire burning forever.

Pierce the Veil Keep Their Emo Dream/Nightmare/Career Alive on First Album In Seven Years

By Tatiana Krisztina

Tatiana Krisztina

“Kick your mind open like a punk-rock show/Uppercut bleeding through a softened nose/If you didn’t come home injured would you say it was a good show?” sings Pierce the Veil ’s Vic Fuentes on “Pass the Nirvana,” the Nirvana-esque first single from their fifth album, The Jaws of Life .

For emo fans now moving into the “kids and mortgage” phase of their life, that line might conjure memories of throwing yourself into a Warped Tour mosh pit — or at least bring to mind more metaphorical coming-of-age cuts and bruises. Well-timed nostalgia for emo’s 2010s golden age is a key selling point here, but Pierce the Veil’s comeback album also admirably strives to make their sound resonate a little more widely than old fans might expect.

Why Is Everybody Talking About the Hawk Tuah Girl?

Dr disrespect knowingly sent explicit messages to a minor, former twitch employee says, the supreme court is a joke. it’s not funny, 'silvio dante helped end apartheid': stevie van zandt looks back at his wild life, editor’s picks, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

The songwriting here is par for the course coming from a band whose lyrics are commonly scrawled across Converse tennis shoes or made into Tumblr edits. “Even When I’m Not With You” delivers high school diary-entry levels of first-crush romanticism; “Shared Trauma” recommends embracing your pain instead of running from it; and the slow-build acoustic-driven ballad “Resilience,” which opens with iconic dialogue from Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused (“If I start referring to these as the best years of my life, remind me to kill myself”), deals with figuring out how to stay sane when teenage angst follows you into adulthood. These guys seem to have figured out the right balance to keep going, and maybe you can, too – Warped Tour scars and all.

On the Beat With Mike Fuentes of Pierce the Veil: Self-Taught Style

On the Beat With Mike Fuentes of Pierce the Veil: Self-Taught Style

Hello everyone, my name is Mike Fuentes and I play drums for a band called Pierce the Veil. When I was fourteen years old my dad bought me my first drumset at a local swap meet along with a Buddy Rich DVD. After that, my brother Vic and I started jamming every day after school—writing songs and recording demos in my bedroom, where the walls were completely covered in posters of all my favorite bands.

Growing up in San Diego I was exposed to a lot of fast-paced, SoCal punk rock. I loved going to shows and focusing on the drummers. I would analyze and study everything that they did and try to implement it into my own playing. Because of my early interest in jazz and punk, my style has always been fast and tight with intricate parts.

We started a band and played shows everywhere and anywhere we could. After saving a bit of money from t-shirt sales and mowing lawns, we were able to record our first demo at Double Time Studios in El Cajon, San Diego. It landed on the desk of someone at a record label not more than six months later and we signed a deal and hit the road.

Fast forward ten years and I can’t believe I’m lucky enough to be traveling the world and playing music for people with my brother and best friends. Our new record, Misadventures , hit everywhere this past May 13, 2016 and we’re really proud of what we created for our fans. Pick it up, give it a listen, and if you come to a Pierce the Veil show, expect to see me in the back flailing around and having the best time of my life.

Pierce The Veil release first new single in six years with the abrasive Pass The Nirvana

Pierce The Veil have returned with their first new music since 2016

Pierce The Veil

Pierce The Veil have returned with their new single , Pass The Nirvana.

The track – which serves as the band's first new material since 2016 – immediately rips into a fuzz-laden guitar riff before heading into an attitude-soaked, towering chorus.

"Pass the Nirvana is about the many horrible traumas that the youth of America have endured over the past few years," explains frontman Vic Fuentes.

The San Diego emo-core heroes will be heading across the pond later this winter for their first set of UK shows in six years, kicking off on December 1 and running through until December 10 for two nights at the O2 Forum in London. Unfortunately for those not quick off the mark, all dates for the UK run are now sold out.

I PREVAIL 's new record, once again produced by Tyler Smyth , features the sort of stadium-sized riffs that will rattle your teeth loose from your gums and unforgettable, supremely catchy melodies that will camp out in your brain for weeks at a time. The band also alternately mixes screamed vocals that sound as though they crawled from the depths of hell with soaring, emotional vocals and heartfelt, intimate lyrics that go so deep, they hit marrow. The end result is an album that resonates with the listener in the most personal way.

" 'Trauma' was a very reflective record," says singer Brian Burkheiser , referring to "True Power" 's game-changing predecessor. "I'd struggled with a major vocal injury and had been wondering whether I wanted to continue doing this thing at all. Eric [ Vanlerberghe , vocals] had also lost his best friend over that same time, so there was a lot of heartache behind it. With 'True Power' , we were going into a new phase. After taking that trauma and figuring out how to channel it, you find this sense of newfound confidence and an ability to grow as a person: to become truly yourself. We took a 'no rules' mentality into the songwriting, and a lot of it is heavy as fuck, but the songs sound as diverse as they've ever been, too. There is a song on the record called 'There's Fear In Letting Go' , and that became a huge mantra for us. Yeah, it can be scary letting go of things, but it can also help you take back everything that's yours: which is exactly what we've done on this album."

Rising to an arena level and receiving two Grammy nominations — "Best Rock Album" for "Trauma" , and "Best Metal Performance" for single "Bow Down" , I PREVAIL proved that they were built to last. To date, they've racked up more than 2.7 billion global streams, are approaching 350 million YouTube views, and saw their "Hurricane" single top Billboard 's Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in 2020: officially the top song on U.S. rock radio at the time. A number of their singles have now been certified gold and platinum, and they have been praised by press far and wide, including Forbes , Billboard , The Hollywood Reporter and NPR .

The TRUE POWER Tour kicks off this fall in North America with special guests Pierce The Veil, Fit For A King, Stand Atlantic, and Yours Truly Tickets and VIP go on sale this Friday at 10AM ET. Posted by I Prevail on  Tuesday, June 21, 2022

Pierce The Veil and The Used brought their co-headlining Creative Control tour to NYC’s beautiful Pier 17 venue on Monday evening. The venue is outdoors and on the rooftop of a building in the city’s Seaport Neighborhood, making for a memorable night of music with an Empire State Building backdrop.

Currently on her first tour is DeathbyRomy , a Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter who opened the night with her blend of dark pop. Romy showed off her vocal range with tracks “I Feel Like a God,” “Vicious Bliss,” and “No Mercy” before bringing her friend and fellow artist Caroline Carr on-stage to close her set with “Fiending for a Lover” and “Day I Die.”

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

British rockers Don Broco were next to take the stage with “Pretty” and “Everybody” as vocalist Rob Damiani pranced on-stage, owning his mullet and baggy pants – fitting for the band that somehow blends 80’s hair metal and 2000s pop punk. Drummer and backing vocalist Matt Donnelly rocked out with “Come out to LA” as guitarist Simon Delaney and bassist Tom Doyle joined in the fun for “Gumshield” and “Bruce Willis” before closing with “T-Shirt Song” during which Damiani tossed t-shirts into the crowd and fans whipped their own shirts fresh from the merch booth above their heads.

Emo legends The Used released their ninth studio album Toxic Positivity last month, and their stage set-up was reminiscent of the album cover, decked out in pink roses. Consisting of vocalist Bert McCracken, Jeph Howard on bass, Joey Bradford on guitar, and Dan Whitesides on drums – the band of over 20 years has a large discography which they worked into their set; ranging from “A Box Full of Sharp Objects” and “The Taste of Ink” from 2002’s The Used to “Giving Up” from Toxic Positivity . Throughout their set, vocalist Bert McCracken encouraged a circle pit while also reminding the crowd to back up and be mindful of those close to the barricade; as well as commenting on his own struggles with anxiety and depression and how his fans help him through.

The rest of their set touched on 2004’s In Love And Death with “Take It Away,” “I Caught Fire,” and “I’m a Fake” to 2007’s Lies for the Liars with “The Bird and the Worm” and “Pretty Handsome Awkward.”

Pierce The Veil made their long-awaited return in March with “The Jaws Of Life,” their first studio album in seven years. Fans were excited to sing the new songs live, as well as the bands classics that cemented them as leaders in the scene.

The San Diego band was founded in 2006 by brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes, although the band has recently gone through a lineup change with Mike leaving the band, and Pierce The Veil bringing on drummer Lionel Robinson (of the band Letlive) for this tour. The trio consists of Vic Fuentes on vocals and guitar, Tony Perry on guitar, and Jaime Preciado on bass.

Pierce The Veil started their hour-long set with new tracks “Death of an Executioner” “Emergency Contact” and “Pass The Nirvana” before playing popular tracks “Southern Constellations,” “The Boy Who Could Fly,” and “Caraphernelia” from 2010’s Selfish Machines . The band did not forget 2012’s Collide With The Sky as they performed “Bulls in the Bronx” and “Hold on Till May” during which Vic chose a fan from the crowd to join him onstage. Their interaction was touching as he sang to her directly, and he even gave her his guitar to take home. The night closed with fan-favorite “King for a Day,” also from Collide With The Sky .

Pierce the Veil

 alt=

Combining elements of post-hardcore, emo-punk, and progressive rock, Pierce the Veil burst onto the scene in the late 2000s. They slowly built a following with 2010's Selfish Machines before achieving mainstream success in 2012 with the release of their gold-selling third studio album, Collide with the Sky, which included the hit "King for a Day." The band topped the U.S. alternative rock charts again in 2016 with Misadventures before an extended hiatus. Seven years later, they returned, calmer and more reflective, with their mature fifth album, The Jaws of Life.

The heart of San Diego emo-inflected post-hardcore outfit Pierce the Veil lies in two brothers, vocalist/guitarist Vic Fuentes and drummer Mike Fuentes. They first started playing together as the band Before Today while students in high school. The two formed the group in December 1998, and it was soon turned into a quintet by guitarist Joe Tancil and bassist Mitchell Ballatore. Before Today played as a unit for several years, and after signing to Equal Vision Records, released the album A Celebration of an Ending in September 2004. In time, Tancil and Ballatore quit the band, leaving Victor and Mike to start over and rebuild. In the fall of 2006, they switched their name to Pierce the Veil, which was the title of a track on the previous Before Today album, and brought on board bassist Jaime Preciado and guitarist Tony Perry.

The brothers wrote Pierce the Veil's debut album, A Flair for the Dramatic, in their San Diego home studio, and later recorded it in Seattle with producer Casey Bates (Gatsbys American Dream, Fear Before the March of Flames). Their original affiliation with Equal Vision continued, and in early summer 2007, A Flair for the Dramatic appeared via the Albany-based label. The fall was then spent on opening dates for rockers From First to Last. A second album, Selfish Machines, arrived on the label in 2010 and reached number one on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. The band parted ways with Equal Vision, eventually signing with Fearless Records the following year. Their third album, Collide with the Sky, arrived on their new label in 2012, with production from Dan Korneff. The LP became their most commercially successful effort to date, topping multiple Billboard charts and spawning the hit single "King for a Day." A tour documentary titled This Is a Wasteland was released at the end of 2013, capturing the band hard at work across Southeast Asia, Europe, North America, and South America.

More touring followed during 2014 and 2015, along with recording for Pierce the Veil's fourth album, Misadventures, which appeared in the spring of 2016. Like its predecessor, the record soared to the upper echelons of the U.S. alternative rock charts. In 2017, multiple sexual misconduct allegations against Mike Fuentes forced the drummer to step down from his duties, and the band went on hiatus. The arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 further disrupted the group's plans, forcing them to abandon a scheduled tour.

The now-trio returned in 2022 with the fiery, grunge-kissed single "Pass the Nirvana." Their comeback album, The Jaws of Life, arrived in 2023. Featuring drumming from Third Eye Blind's Brad Hargreaves, the set debuted a more mature and midtempo sound for the usually raucous band, as heard on the single "Emergency Contact" and the duet with Chloe Moriondo, "12 Fractures." ~ Corey Apar

We’ll find out Sunday when the Poway-bred pop-punk trio performs at downtown’s Petco Park where blink headlines a triple-bill that includes the San Diego band Pierce The Veil and England’s Hot Milk.

The tour is in support of 2023’s “One More Time,” which was the first blink-182 album since 2011’s “Neighborhoods” to reunite drummer Travis Barker and bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus with guitarist-singer Tom DeLonge after DeLonge’s 7-year hiatus from the band.

To help you smoothly navigate what is likely to be a raucous night of musical celebration Sunday, here’s what you should know before you go.

• As of this writing, the last MTBS Coaster train from San Diego to Oceanside on Sunday departs at 9:20 p.m., an hour and 40 minutes before the concert is scheduled to conclude.

5. All tickets for the concert are digital and can be found in either the MLB Ballpark app or the Ticketmaster app. Details on how to access or transfer your tickets are available online at mlb.com/padres/tickets/mobile/guide .

ABOUT I PREVAIL:

I Prevail have established themselves as the forerunners of the genre in the 21st century.  TRUE POWER , once again produced by Tyler Smith, features the sort of stadium-sized riffs that will rattle your teeth loose from your gums and unforgettable, supremely catchy melodies that will camp out in your brain for weeks at a time. The band also alternately mixes screamed vocals that sound as though they crawled from the depths of hell with soaring, emotional vocals and heartfelt, intimate lyrics that go so deep, they hit marrow. The end result is an album that resonates with the listener in the most personal way.  Rising to an arena level and receiving two Grammy nominations — Best Rock Album for  Trauma , and Best Metal Performance for crushing lead single “Bow Down,” I Prevail proved that they were built to last. To date, they’ve racked up more than 1.5 billion streams in the United States, drawn upwards of 334 million YouTube views, and saw their “Hurricane” single top Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in 2020: officially the top song on U.S. rock radio at the time. A number of their singles have now been certified Gold and Platinum, and they have been praised by press far and wide, including  Forbes, Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter , and  NPR .

ABOUT PIERCE THE VEIL:

Since 2006, Pierce The Veil have unassumingly yet consistently climbed their way into the hearts of millions worldwide via an unshakable devotion to making honest and hypnotic hard rock. The San Diego band — Vic Fuentes (vocals, guitar), Tony Perry (guitar), and Jaime Preciado (bass) — released  A Flair for the Dramatic  [2007] and  Selfish Machines  [2010], the latter of which camped out at No. 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. They have steadily built a dedicated and diehard fanbase through touring and by nurturing an honest connection. PTV truly established themselves with 2012’s  Collide With the Sky , which spawned their first RIAA Platinum-certified single with “King for a Day.” They followed with  Misadventures  in 2016, which charted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 and notched No. 1s on multiple charts, including Top Alternative Albums, Top Hard Rock Albums, Top Independent Albums, and Top Rock Albums. In between sold-out tours all over the globe and a headlining stint on 2015’s Warped Tour Main Stage, the musicians garnered five Alternative Press Music Awards (including “Album of the Year” for  Misadventures ), two Kerrang! Awards, and a Revolver Golden Gods Award. They’ve graced the covers of  Alternative Press, Kerrang!, Rock Sound , and more — multiple times. Elsewhere, their digital and streaming footprint is nothing short of staggering. They’ve tallied over 1.5 billion global streams and almost 370 million YouTube views — proving that growth is a constant for them. Ultimately, Pierce The Veil, who’ve earned multiple gold and platinum certifications, remain one of the most beloved bands of their generation and they show absolutely no signs of slowing down as they march into a new decade ready to share the most important music of their career.

ABOUT FIT FOR A KING:

One of the heaviest and catchiest extreme metal acts from the Lone Star State since the original cowboys from hell, FIT FOR A KING’s ascendance is demonstrated as much by the massive singalongs at their shows as their jaw-dropping streaming numbers. After self-releasing EPs for years, they’ve issued  Descendants  (2011),  Creation/Destruction  (2013),  Slave to Nothing  (2014),  Deathgrip  (2016), and  Dark Skies  (2018) to critical and fan acclaim. However, their sixth album, 2020’s  The Path , has asserted itself as definitive for the band. The band fires off shredding guitar solos, while doubling down on the massive catchy choruses. Even as FFAK’s music is rightfully heralded as “majestic and punishing” ( Revolver Magazine ) and “straightforward heaviness” ( Metal Injection ), genuine connection, fearless transparency, and an accessible relatability are the most essential elements of the band’s powerful presence. Their anthems appeal equally to anyone whose tastes were shaped and inspired by gateway bands like Slipknot and Korn or New Wave of American Heavy Metal torchbearers like Killswitch Engage. FFAK are road warriors, having appeared several times on the Vans Warped Tour and having toured alongside Ice Nine Kills, Beartooth, August Burns Red, and Whitechapel, among others. The band has impressively generated over 300 million streams combined, and they’re only just getting started. The band will drop its seventh album this fall.

Kicking off their latest tour, the punk rockers jammed through a set of 25 songs tinged with nostalgia for ’90s kids (myself included). Everyone, including the band members, has grown up a bit since Blink’s early releases. Though the angsty teenagers who remember buying the band’s CDs have now joined the world of adult jobs and families, what hasn’t changed are the timeless hits and the band’s sense of humor — which still feels fresh out of middle school. Because of that, many of the specific jokes and quips are too irreverent to print. But for many fans, therein lies the whole appeal.

The pop-punk act launched into the evening with early 2000s hits “Feeling This” and “The Rock Show,” which had an extra burst of energy from the pyrotechnics. Seeing the musicians on stage together — Mark Hoppus with his dark, spiky hair and Tom DeLonge with his backward hat — made it clear what works so well in the dynamics between the two. Hoppus handles the low end with his baritone voice and grungy bass, while DeLonge carries the angsty upper end of the vocals and guitar riffs.

The drummer, often the unsung hero of a rock band, took his rightful place center stage with dazzling moments throughout the night. One part man, one part beat-making machine, Travis Barker never ceased to amaze the thousands of people packed into the sold-out arena.

While the songs ranged from throwback mid-90s releases to new tunes off the band’s latest album, “One More Time…”, fans relished the chance to sing along to the more popular hits.

During “I Miss You,” DeLonge dropped out to hear the crowd sing in unison, “Where are you? And I’m so sorry.” It was especially powerful because of the in-the-round seating with fans on all sides of the circular stage, which resembled the band’s logo when viewed from above.

While DeLonge and Hoppus stayed planted on the stage throughout the night, except for the occasional jump, Barker had his moment to shine while elevating above the stage on his drum platform. He stayed there for several songs as lasers flashed over the crowd.

As Blink’s fan base has grown older, the band’s music also has aged and matured. While releases of the late ’90s and early 2000s focused on teenage debauchery, crushes and partying, the latest album feels more sentimental and reflective.

As the end of the show approached, “Anthem Part 3” paid homage to the band’s history (“Anthem” from 1999 and “Anthem Part Two” from 2001), calling to mind the “rising of a new tide” and dreams that have fallen by the wayside before ending on a hopeful note.

After a quick succession of hits from “What’s My Age Again” to “First Date,” “All the Small Things” and “Dammit,” it was time for the trio to call an end to the night, which had opened with sets from jxdn and Pierce The Veil. Leaving nothing up to the imagination, Hoppus said, “This is the encore. You don’t have to cheer, we’re going to play it anyway.”

The final song was the slow, stripped down, “One More Time,” which recalls the band’s recent history. DeLonge, who left the band for the second time in 2015, returned to the group last year after singer Hoppus’ battle with cancer. The song also recalls the 2008 plane crash that Barker survived. Ultimately, it pays tribute to a rekindled friendship based on music that has stood the test of time. The rockers are still here, despite the odds, much to the delight of the thousands gathered for an evening of nostalgic pop-punk jams.

Post Malone, Noah Kahan, and all the concerts coming to Fenway Park this summer

Even when the Red Sox aren’t in town, there are still plenty of reasons to head to Fenway Park this summer.

The 112-year-old ballpark is set to host 12 concerts this year, including a one-off show by pop superstar Lana Del Rey , who kicked off the season with her US stadium debut in Boston on June 20. Meanwhile, fans can expect a two-night stay from rising folk star and local product Noah Kahan, as well as an appearance by the Foo Fighters, their first at Fenway since the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins .

From rock legends to country kings, here’s your guide to all the concerts coming to Fenway this summer.

Transportation guide

For people looking to commute, there are plenty of ways to reach the venue. The closest Green Line T stop is Kenmore, accessible from the B, C, and D lines, as well as the 8, 19, 57, 60, and 65 buses.

Last year, the MBTA offered free subway transport after an Aug. 21 Guns N’ Roses concert, however, no similar announcements have been made yet this year. The official website for the Red Sox also encourages fans to take public transit instead of driving to Fenway events, but multiple lots and parking garages can be found surrounding the stadium.

Hootie & the Blowfish

The four-piece pop rock band is back on tour this summer for the first time since 2019, and rolls through Boston on June 21. The 43-city trek for the “Summer Camp With Trucks Tour” hits the US and Canada beginning May 30 in Dallas and wraps in West Palm Beach Sept. 28. The Fenway show will feature special guests Barenaked Ladies, Collective Soul, and Edwin McCain. June 21, 5:30 p.m. mlb.com

After the Vermont singer-songwriter’s first pitch went awry , Kahan should be poised for a much better time at Fenway this summer. The 27-year-old star, who received a nomination for Best New Artist at this past year’s Grammy Awards, brings his folk-pop sound to Boston for two sold-out nights on July 18 and 19 and will be supported by Mt. Joy and James Bay. July 18-19, 6:30 p.m. mlb.com

After playing Fenway last year , Kane Brown quickly makes his return this July. The Tennessee country singer is on the road this summer, playing 18 shows in 17 cities across the US, and will be joined in Boston by Jon Pardi, LOCASH, and RaeLynn. His tour kicks off May 30 in Orlando and ends Sept. 14 in Arlington, TX. July 20, 6 p.m. mlb.com

Foo Fighters

The shows that the Seattle grunge and alternative rock band have played so far as a part of the “Everything or Nothing at All” stadium tour have been nothing short of epic , with set lists running nearly three hours long and emotions running high on stage. As part of the tour, Dave Grohl and company will stop by Fenway on July 21 for a sold-out show, bringing with them The Hives and Amyl and the Sniffers. July 21, 5 p.m. mlb.com

Less than year removed from their ninth studio album, “One More Time...,” pop-punk elder statesmen blink-182 will be on a trek across the US, UK, Ireland, and Canada all summer long. Their tour comes to Fenway on July 23. The three-piece consisting of Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker, and Tom DeLonge will be joined in Boston by Pierce the Veil and Ekkstacy. July 23, 6:30 p.m. mlb.com

Def Leppard and Journey

Relive the 80s and early 90s on Aug. 5 with the joint tour from Def Leppard and Journey. Their 24 stops across the US and Canada feature different supporting acts at different shows, with Heart playing the gig at the beloved Boston ballpark. The tour begins early July in St. Louis and concludes September 8 at Coors Field in Denver. Aug. 5, 5:30 p.m. defleppardjourney2024.com

Green Day’s massive “The Saviors” world tour makes a pit stop in Boston on Aug. 7. The “American Idiot” and “Dookie” pop-punk legends soon embark across four different continents spanning eight months, and will play those two albums in their entirety. The sold-out Fenway show will also feature special guests Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas. Aug. 7, 5 p.m. mlb.com

Touring on the back of 2024′s “Dark Matter,” Pearl Jam’s 12th studio album, the Seattle band’s run of stadium shows from late August to early September will visit Boston. On Sept. 15 and 17, the “Alive” and “Even Flow” alternative rock outfit will be joined by Glen Hansard for two sold-out shows, which will mark the first time Pearl Jam plays Fenway since 2018. Sept. 15, 17, 6:30 p.m. mlb.com

Post Malone

The 28-year-old Post Malone’s career has spanned everything from hip-hop to rock, and this August, he will take his biggest plunge into country music yet with the release of his new album “F-1 Trillion.” The subsequent 21-show US tour, beginning in September, comes to Fenway Park on Sept. 18. Presale begins June 26 at 10 a.m., general on sale tickets are available on July 1 at 10 a.m. Sept. 18, 7:30 p.m. livenation.com
