Welcome to Oklahoma City Ghosts

A “Lands Run” built on deception began the turbulent history of Oklahoma City. Now, the haunted hotels and homes of Thunder City read like an open book, narrated by the eerie whispers of those long dead.

Haunted Blasts From The Past

Timothy Mcveigh’s twisted visions of a world without a government left a mark on OKC that still is alive in the minds of those traumatized by this horrendous event. Nearly two hundred would die on that fateful day in 1996, creating a heavy energy that bleeds into the heart of downtown Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma Ghosts takes you to the Alfred P. Murrah Federal, the very spot where the earth-shattering bombings that changed the nation occurred. Hear the unnerving details that transpired on this day of infamy and how it sparked some of the most harrowing hauntings in the city.

Locals have spoken about the reincarnated souls of children who died in the bombing returning to the disaster site for years. It’s said that extreme emotional responses are incited at this very spot, with many believing these emotions are a result of the lingering spirits of the victims mourning their lives cut too short.

Are you prepared for this heart-pounding haunted adventure through downtown Oklahoma City?

What Will I See?

Ten Floors of Terror

Travel back to a time when greed and oil ruled the city and the ruthless men who profited off the land dominated with an iron fist. The proof has soaked into the land and the towering spirit-infested buildings built upon it.

Dive headfirst into the legends surrounding the tenth floor of the Skivin Hotel on a chilling ghost tour of Oklahoma City. Lift the veil on a floor so frightening that even professional athletes have been sent running from its dark confines in terror.

Loud bangs and the sound of a child crying in the night keep unlucky visitors of the 1910 hotel awake at night, both victims of Oklahoma’s tendency to attract the criminally minded. Keep your eyes on the top floor as you may experience what has sent chills down the spines of so many onlookers – the vision of a woman falling from the sky.

Is she also the woman in the red dress seen pushing a baby carriage? Join Oklahoma Ghosts on an illuminatingly creepy, haunted Oklahoma City tour, where we explore the tale of the falling woman and other tragedies at the old hotel.

The Lady of the House

The names of the influential men who were in the right place at the right time during Oklahoma’s chaotic Land Rush still ring out across the plains of Oklahoma. The haunted palatial mansions of these oil barons have struck fear in the hearts of locals for years and left many wondering what they have hidden behind their high, gilded walls.

Envelope yourself in the spine-tingling tale of the Overholser Mansion, a palatial palace known for a spectral Victorian woman who’s been seen eyeing visitors from the dark, dusty corners of the attic. The former lady of the house is said to send workers and visitors running in fear as the creepy sounds of rattling children’s toys emanate from a nursery not used in decades.

Explore the story of the Overholser Mansion, the fevered dreams that often befall museum staff, and the unexplainable messages from the afterlife left behind by Anna Overholser. Discover these terrors and more on a chilling ghost tour with Oklahoma Ghosts.

Why is Oklahoma City so Haunted?

Oil is thicker than blood.

Oklahoma was once the home to many mighty Native American tribes. It was also the site where they experienced unimaginable betrayal and deceit that led to the death of thousands and, later, a string of mysterious murders that tore the community apart.

Hear the horrors of the Osage murders that shocked the city in the early 20th century at the ‘89er Trail Historial Marker 17. Oklahoma Ghosts shares the evil plot carried out by even more evil men. Who committed these heinous deeds, and why do their spirits still walk among us?

Oil rigs that scar the face of the city, propped up by the schemes of wicked, unforgiving men, have now become spiritual homes for these nefarious phantoms. Learn more about the haunted Governor’s Mansion that once stood on one of these oil wells. It’s said that the phantom knocks in the dead of night are only drowned out by the cabinets being slammed shut by unseen hands.

Saints and Sinister Spirits

Buildings dedicated to saints are usually regarded as places of safety and refuge. In Oklahoma City, some of these buildings are home to the city’s most evil entities. Visit Saint Joseph’s Old Cathedral with Oklahoma Ghosts and remove the veil on one of Oklahoma City’s most unhinged locations.

Inside Saint Vincent’s Mental Asylum lurks something so demented it’s said to have driven nurses and priests to insanity. A string of physically damaging incidents has followed anyone unfortunate enough to work within the walls of the horrifying building, leaving them in a far worse state than those they were caring for.

From patients to nuns and nurses, anyone who’s entered the building has been enslaved by its cursed grip. Hear the horrific tale of a nurse known to kick her patients down the stairs and how a former director with a troubling past met a mysterious end. Learn about the aggressive footsteps and demonic growls that have sent ghost hunters fleeing in terror.

Uncover the unnerving events that lured the Travel Channel’s Ghost Asylum to the building and what unfolded that caused them to dub Saint Vincent’s Mental Asylum one of the most haunted places in Oklahoma.

What’s so Special About the Oklahoma City Ghosts Tour?

See a different side of oklahoma city nightlife .

Dig up the dark side of Oklahoma City Nightlife outside the Civil Center Music Hall, once the site of a massive Satanic ritual and cleansing exorcism. Whatever was awoken inside this gigantic entertainment complex still remains despite the church’s best efforts to rid the building of this terrifying evil.

Oklahoma Ghosts brings the haunting of the Grayman, a mysterious spirit not seen in the center until the new millennia, straight to you. His silhouettes fill empty sound booths, and objects move on their own in the dead of night thanks to his overbearing presence.

A Once in a Lifetime Chance To Experience Oklahoma Dark Tourism

Hauntings on the surface of Oklahoma City only hint at all the more terrifying experiences occurring underground. Follow Oklahoma Ghosts to the Myriad Gardens as we reveal the underground tunnels that line the city and the community that once used them.

The ghost of a Chinese hero from the city’s small community still helps others in the libraries and theatres above the labyrinth that once supported his people. Though his presence is a calming one, what draws his apparition to the buildings above the tunnels remains a mystery. Hear this loving yet chilling tale on a hair-raising haunted ghost tour of OKC.

From historical museums to fun and funky festivals, recreational outdoor events, and more, OKC offers a lot of fun and excitement for travelers looking for a good time in the Big Friendly. But don’t let its friendly nickname fool you. Scratch beneath the surface, and you’ll uncover a surprisingly dark past, where tales of lawlessness and echoes of high-profile crimes and tragedies linger in the shadows. In more recent times, serial killers, kidnappings, and even a major terrorist attack have left their mark on the city, with the violent protests and the haunting aftermath of one of the nation’s deadliest domestic terrorist attacks adding to its ghostly lore.

Did you know scientists at Princeton University may have proven the existence of ghosts?

Researchers at Princeton University have been studying paranormal phenomena in a scientific context for almost 30 years, through a department called “PEAR”. It stands for “Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research”. PEAR is a scientific study of consciousness-related physical phenomena.

Have you ever had a terrible tour guide? Someone who wasn't very likable, wasn't very knowledgeable, didn't have a good command of the group, was boring and unengaging?

Not our tour Guides! They are the best. They will make a believer out of you. Not just in ghosts, but in how awesome a properly guided tour can be. Our guides take their role seriously - they are guiding you through 300 years of history, in places that have been evidently haunted, almost weekly, since they were discovered.

Icon

Have you ever heard of a “memory palace”? It's a technique used by memory athletes to remember fantastic amounts of information with perfect recall, in a short period of time. What you do is, you associate different imagery and stories with different features of locations you're familiar with (like different rooms in your house).

Icon

If you've only got a couple days in town, maybe you're with your significant other, or maybe you're with your friends, or even your whole family, and you're spending your precious paid time off here in Williamsburg, so that every move you make counts… then you simply must come visit us.

Icon

Did you know the hormones our bodies release when we're thrilled have an influence on attraction? It's why roller-coasters make such a great first date. This has been studied over and over, but it's worth repeating here. If you're taking someone on a date, and you're looking to have a lot of fun together, or to increase attraction for each other, it's a good idea to find something that gets the blood pumping. The best activities are even a little scary, like a roller coaster. Or a haunted old church.

Icon

What is it worth to take a trip with your family that actually brings everyone together, even if it's just for an hour or two? Family vacations can be stressful, and sometimes it can be a real pain to get everyone to get into the spirit doing the same thing, without whining or eyes rolling. And how many memories do we really get to have fun reminiscing over as the years pass?

Icon

US Ghost Adventure tours are the real deal. One of the first things you'll notice, that makes us different than the other ghost tours in town, is we don't walk the traditional paths. And we don't use silly costumes or lanterns. Why? Because we only walk the paths of the stories we have fact-checked and verified. We explore real haunted sites across the U.S.

Icon

US Ghost Adventure tours are easy to fit into most schedules, because we run late in the evening. We have different start times in the evening to choose from, including with ghost tours starting at 8pm and 9pm, and the Ultimate tour at 10pm. Finally, at 90-125 minutes long, you can almost always find a tour that fits your schedule.

This is our favorite. Not long ago, a pop-science article was published that claimed the Large Hadron Collider at CERN had debunked ghosts. In reality, a scientist named Brian Cox mused that if there were a medium that could preserve a person (something like a 'soul'), he believes he would have seen evidence of it in his particle physics work.

Most Haunted Places in Oklahoma City, OK

Civic Center Music Hall

Built in 1937, the historic Civic Center Music Hall in OKC isn't all sunshine and show tunes. Whispers abound of Satanic rituals and a mysterious Grayman haunting the halls – seems even ghosts appreciate a bit of rock and roll!

The Skirvin Hotel

The Skirvin Hotel boasts a history as rich as its opulent decor, with local lore reporting the ghostly apparition of its owner, socializing with guests way past check-out time! Fast forward to today, it’s famed for its tenth floor frights, scaring sports teams stiff and solidifying its spot as the most haunted hotel in the city.

Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building Plaza

The 1995 bombing of the nine-story Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building Plaza remains one of the deadliest acts of homegrown terrorism in the country, leaving behind a haunting legacy of tragedy and loss, as the spirits of the innocent victims now roam the Oklahoma City National Memorial, where the building once stood.

Some of the places mentioned in the video I knew about, others were a total surprise. I had no idea the Spaghetti Warehouse in OKC was haunted! Bricktown has a ton of history, some good, some not so good. Since most of the buildings and structures date back to the early 1900s it's no surprise some are haunted.

These old and original buildings downtown may have been remodeled and repurposed but their past has followed them into the present. It's fascinating to hear the stories behind these places. This fall I plan on making the trip to OKC and going on one of these guided ghost tours with Jeff Provine . Maybe even stay in the infamous Skirvin Hotel , which has been called the most haunted hotel in Oklahoma and one of the most haunted places in the entire U.S. Make a weekend of it or a fall break spooky staycation. Avery was a wonderful, informative host that took us through the supernatural history of the NoHo Arts district. My husband and I learned a lot about the area and had the chance to chat with some spirits! We highly recommend this tour for anyone looking for some spooky fun with a few TV/movie locations sprinkled in.

Absolutely Amazing! Great tour filled with fun facts, cool ghost stories, and awesome ghost hunting tools! Our host was an incredible and intriguing storyteller and highly recommend tour to other interested parties.

Free tour with fun history and creepy stuff! My husband and I went with a friend on a Tuesday tour and we had such a great time! They are dog friendly so we brought our dog in a stroller (as one does). This is fun to do alone, or with a group! It was really cool getting to learn more about North Hollywood especially since my husband and I have lived here for several years. Our tour guide, Avery, was so personable and had great energy! They were so knowledgeable about the history of North Hollywood and it was fun to see them use the energy reader and copper rods! Avery did a great job sharing personal stories mixed with history! There were some interruptions, but Avery handed it well and was friendly overall! We had a special surprise run in with a former employee of one of the haunted buildings we were standing in front of! They were able to share about their ghostly encounters! Definitely not guaranteed, but a nice treat! It's about a 1.5 mile walk so wear the right shoes! I highly recommend if you're a Valley native, visiting, or are in the surrounding LA area!

Just did the tour. It's a fascinating delve into the history of North Hollywood, especially as it pertains to ghosts and paranormal activity. It's a great value, and Avery is absolutely fantastic and highly knowledgeable. I learned so many new things I didn't know and got to see and hear things that were a bit chilling, but in a good way. I would highly encourage anyone who is a paranormal or local history person to give this a try. And if you're not, you probably should anyway because it might make you one. One note: there is a fair deal of walking so make sure you are in comfortable shoes. Thank you Avery!

Really informative walking tour with ghost stories and historical tales of the North Hollywood District. You're sure to learn something new about a thing you've driven past many many times and the guide also kept things fun with a goofy sense of humor. Highlight was getting to use EMF readers and divining rods to actually communicate with ghosts! A fun date idea or just something different to do, highly suggest!

Thoroughly enjoyed our NoHo Ghost tour under the full moon! Avery knows alot of cool facts about the ghostly underbelly of North Hollywood and we had a good time seeing NoHo Arts District in a completely different light. Thanks Avery!

This was one of those bucket list items for me, so this was very exciting. Avery led us around and shared lots of interesting historical facts. We experienced a couple of really creepy "Ghost" interactions with the tools Avery had. It's a fun time for sure.

Props to NoHo Ghosts for bringing some haunted fun to North Hollywood! First of all, the best part about the tour was Avery, our guide. So eloquent and knowledgeable about every place on the tour, you can tell she did her research. I'd heard about the El Portal ghost before all the other stories were new to me. The two highlights were getting up close to the Masonic building and getting to use the emf and other ghost hunting tools. Let's face it when else would you get to do that? The tour is dog friendly, as long as the dog is friendly too. Good way to get your puppies' steps in as well as yours! Personally, I loved getting my steps in and hearing the history of the places at the same time. I also appreciated the quick grounding meditation at the start of the tour. #IYKYK The only thing that would make it better would be adding food to the tour, maybe a deal with the Fry Truck? I'd pay extra for that!

I hate to give a bad review so I'm giving an extra two stars because they offered a free tour a test trial. Avery, the tour guide was lovely and quirky. I give them props for starting up their own business. There was some awkwardness especially before starting the tour. We could hear Avery well with the microphone they had. The tools they brought were fun and silly. The tour is too long. It took us 2 hours. There aren't many ghost stories and the ones that were told were hearsay and not all that interesting. Maybe noho just doesn't have many ghosts? But even some interesting made-up stories would be fun. There wasn't very much history. I would think they'd talk about the history of the federal bar at the end of the tour but we didn't end back there. I liked looking at the Masonic temple up close. I hope with more feedback, looking into history, and practice this does succeed. I didn't take any photos as there was nothing interesting to look at.

Highly recommend the NoHo Ghosts tour. Avery shares quite a bit of information during this interactive walking tour. Get your steps in during this spooky tour.

Oklahoma state superintendent orders schools to teach the Bible in grades 5 through 12

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma’s top education official ordered public schools Thursday to incorporate the Bible into lessons for grades 5 through 12, the latest effort by conservatives to incorporate religion into classrooms.

The directive drew immediate condemnation from civil rights groups and supporters of the separation of church and state, with some calling it an abuse of power and a violation of the U.S. Constitution.

The order sent to districts across the state by Republican State Superintendent Ryan Walters says adherence to the mandate is compulsory and “immediate and strict compliance is expected.”

“The Bible is an indispensable historical and cultural touchstone,” Walters said in a statement. “Without basic knowledge of it, Oklahoma students are unable to properly contextualize the foundation of our nation which is why Oklahoma educational standards provide for its instruction.”

Oklahoma law already explicitly allows Bibles in the classroom and lets teachers use them in instruction, said Phil Bacharach, a spokesman for state Attorney General Gentner Drummond.

But it’s not clear if Walters has the authority to mandate that schools teach it. State law says individual school districts have the exclusive authority to decide on instruction, curriculum, reading lists, instructional materials and textbooks.

The head of the Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations criticized the directive as a clear violation of the Constitution’s Establishment Clause, which prohibits the government from “establishing” a religion.

“We adamantly oppose any requirements that religion be forcefully taught or required as a part of lesson plans in public schools, in Oklahoma, or anywhere else in the country,” Adam Soltani said in a statement.

“Public schools are not Sunday schools,” said Rachel Laser, president and CEO of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, in a statement. “This is textbook Christian Nationalism: Walters is abusing the power of his public office to impose his religious beliefs on everyone else’s children. Not on our watch.”

The directive is the latest salvo in an effort by conservative-led states to target public schools: Louisiana has required them to post the Ten Commandments in classrooms , while others are under pressure to teach the Bible and ban books and lessons about race, sexual orientation and gender identity. Earlier this week the Oklahoma Supreme Court blocked an attempt by the state to have the first publicly funded religious charter school in the country.

A former public school teacher who was elected to his post in 2022, Walters ran on a platform of fighting “woke ideology,” banning books from school libraries and getting rid of “radical leftists” who he claims are indoctrinating children in classrooms.

He has clashed with leaders in both parties for his focus on culture-war issues including transgender rights and banning books, and in January he faced criticism for appointing a right-wing social media influencer from New York to a state library committee.

How 'Reservation Dogs' sparked a Native filmmaking boom in Tulsa

Filmmakers have built on the success of the popular show to transform the Oklahoma city into the center of Native television and cinema.

Driver and two your person displaying clapperboard with Reservation Dogs written on it.

Tim’s Midtow n Diner in Tulsa , Oklahoma , used to be just the local greasy spoon where I could get a big waffle and a hot coffee any day of the week. But since appearing on FX’s Peabody Award–winning series Reservation Dogs, it’s become a bit of a pilgrimage spot. (FX and National Geographic Partners are part of The Walt Disney Company.) In one memorable scene, actors Ethan Hawke and Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs (Mohawk) sit across from each other at a table a few feet from where I was dining. “It brings a lot of people in,” my server said of the show .

Co-created by the Tulsa-based showrunner Sterlin Harjo (Muscogee, Seminole) and Oscar-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi (Māori), “Rez Dogs” tells the story of four Indigenous teenagers coming of age on a reservation in northeast Oklahoma. After a local red-carpet premiere, the series debuted in August 2021, and then suddenly on my TV screen there were Native kids I could have hung out with in high school, in a neighborhood that could be the one outside my window. It was authentic and heartfelt and a world away from the stereotypical depiction of Natives living in tipis and riding horseback. Rez Dogs proved that Native stories told by Native storytellers could succeed on a pop-culture scale: Two months later my social feeds were filled with images of kids and teenagers dressed up as the show’s characters for Halloween.

Most significant, the series sparked a Native filmmaking boom, centered in Tulsa. Fittingly, the city sits at the meeting point of three nations—Cherokee, Muscogee, and Osage. The show’s three seasons showcase Oklahoma’s varied landscapes, from the green Ozark hills and the rivers that flow throughout the Cherokee Nation’s 7,000 square miles, to the prairies in the central region, to the Great Salt Plains in the north and the mesas near the panhandle. Okmulgee, the Muscogee Nation capital, stood in for the teens’ fictional hometown of Okern.

Then there is Tulsa itself, a metropolis of more than a million people, with an art deco skyline that dates back to the early 1900s when the city was known as the “oil capital of the world.” Some downtown locations subbed for Los Angeles in Rez Dogs. They also show up in the Martin Scorsese epic Killers of the Flower Moon, which was largely filmed nearby on the Osage Nation Reservation.

( Murder. Greed. Conspiracy. What really happened in Osage County? )

Harjo employed local crew, many of them inexperienced at the time. He also inspired other Indigenous creatives to come to town, including writer-director Erica Tremblay (Seneca-Cayuga), who filmed the Sundance favorite Fancy Dance throughout the area with actor Lily Gladstone (NiMíiPuu, Siksikaitsitapi). Gladstone, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Killers of the Flower Moon, also appeared in Rez Dogs.

Movie set with real truck and virtual background.

In 2022, seeing an opportunity, my tribe, the Cherokee Nation, became the first in the United States to launch a film incentive program. The initiative provides financial backing for the use of Indigenous cast and crew, as well as film locations on the reservation. That same year, Cherokee Film opened a 27,000-square-foot studio on the reservation in Owasso, less than 15 minutes from Tulsa International Airport. The soundstage, sitting off the side of a highway, is a converted indoor soccer facility. A second soundstage, spanning 10,000 square feet, is being built next door. In two years, the tribe has invested more than $10 million in its film office and incentive program.

Cherokee Film maintains an online database of Native talent and crew with more than 2,000 verified listings. Among them is local Cherokee filmmaker Jeremy Charles, who operates Pursuit Films, a production services provider for local shoots and for tribes across the continent.

The Cherokee Film studio offers motion capture, mixed reality, and 3D capabilities. “There is no technology like this in the region, much less available to Native filmmakers,” Charles says. “Working as a Native in the industry, I really feel fortunate that Cherokee Film is leading the way for Indian Country.”

On location in Osage Nation

There are more projects on the horizon. Choctaw filmmaker Kyle Kauwika Harris, who earned numerous awards in 2017 for his Standing Rock documentary, I Stand: The Guardians of Water, filmed the crime drama Out of Exile here in 2021, with support from Pursuit Films. Harris and Pursuit will team up again for the action thriller Huntsman, set to film in Oklahoma this summer. And soon Harjo and Hawke will reunite to shoot a pilot for FX, the Tulsa noir The Sensitive Kind.

These days, I’m often detoured around film sets as I drive around town. Once, I had to go elsewhere for a cup of coffee so Sylvester Stallone could be filmed sipping an espresso for the Paramount+ series Tulsa King. Another time, I had to reroute through downtown because the actor Jesse Plemons was pretending to escort a criminal out of a building for Killers of the Flower Moon.

“Tulsa used to be a ghost town for creatives, and now look at us: Everyone wants to come here and be a part of it,” Charles says. “The talent is clearly here. You can fully book an entire movie with 100 percent Native talent. We’ve come a long way. Now we have to do the work.”
