Seven Seas Splendor
Debuted in September 2021, the 746-passenger, 548-crew member Seven Seas Splendor is the newest ship within the Regent fleet. Seven Seas Splendor – along with most of the line's other ships – takes opulence to the next level by equipping each suite with its own private balcony. Other standard in-room amenities include interactive flat-screen TVs, luxurious bath products, bathrobes and slippers, signature queen-size beds and dining tables for two. There are 10 suite categories available, ranging from the smallest Veranda (307 square feet) and Deluxe Veranda suites (308 to 361 square feet) to the largest Regent (4,443 square feet) and Master suites (1,895 to 2,108 square feet).
Guests have a wide array of things to do while on board. Spend your days relaxing at the spa, playing paddle tennis or bocce ball, working up a sweat on the jogging track or taking a dip in the ship's two whirlpools and two pools, one of which is an infinity-edge pool that stretches along the edge of the ship, providing swimmers with exceptional views of the ocean. At night, enjoy one of five shows at the onboard theater.
When it comes to food, Seven Seas Splendor offers eight eateries ranging from casual to fine dining. Enjoy your breakfast alfresco at La Veranda and grub down for lunch at the Pool Grill buffet. For something more formal, opt for a French-inspired meal at Chartreuse, Pan-Asian dishes at Pacific Rim or Compass Rose, the largest restaurant on the ship.
Seven Seas Splendor visits a variety of European and Mediterranean destinations, as well as ports across Europe, the Caribbean, Africa and South America.
Viking Mars
Viking's newest ship, the Viking Mars accommodates 930 passengers and, since it's a smaller vessel, it can dock in many ports where some of the larger ocean-faring cruise ships can't reach. The all-veranda accommodations on this ship, which debuted in May 2022, range in size from around 270 square feet to 1,448 square feet. In-room amenities include free Wi-Fi access, flat-screen TVs, safes, minibars filled with drinks and snacks, robes, slippers and 24-hour room service.
Visitors will find a relaxing spa, a hair salon, a yoga area and a well-equipped indoor fitness center (plus an outdoor fitness center) aboard the ship. Those looking to unwind with a book in one hand and a cocktail in the other should snag a cozy spot in The Living Room. Like other Viking ships, the Viking Mars offers educational programming, lectures, cooking classes and more on board.
Cruisers can also enjoy amenities like the main pool and hot tub, the infinity pool, the cinema, the theater, a jazz lounge and various bars. Dining options on this ship include Manfredi's Italian Restaurant, Aquavit Terrace, World Café, The Chef's Table and The Kitchen Table.
Viking Mars receives rave reviews from recent cruisers. The variety of excursions, the delectable onboard dining and the comfortable cabins are a few things previous guests highlighted as superb. However, the staff received mixed reviews: Some experienced attentive and friendly employees, while a few noted they were expecting better service across the board for the price point.
Upcoming itineraries on the Viking Mars include cruises with ports of call in Iceland, Norway, Greece, Italy, Spain, the U.S. and Canada.
Celebrity Silhouette
Introduced in 2011 and fully refurbished in February 2020, the 2,902-passenger Celebrity Silhouette is one of the largest ships in the fleet and features a nearly 1-to-3 crew-to-guest ratio. Its latest renovation reimagined the lounges across the ships, updated the staterooms and added new boutiques and spa treatment rooms.
Silhouette offers plenty of onboard activities, from enrichment seminars to comedy shows. While kids can play on Xbox consoles or at the sports courts, adults can sip libations at the Passport Bar and Craft Social.
As far as dining goes, the ship is home to 12 restaurants and cafes, half of which are specialty venues that require reservations and extra fees. Cuisine ranges from casual bites at the pool grill to sushi and Italian fare.
Along with a variety of food options, Celebrity Silhouette offers a range of stateroom selections, with 85% of its cabins offering verandas. Cruisers can choose from Inside, Ocean View and Veranda rooms, while those who opt for one of seven Suite categories receive more space and perks like butler service and priority check-in.
Celebrity Silhouette sails to destinations in the Caribbean and Europe.
Celebrity Eclipse
Launched in 2010 and scheduled for refurbishment in spring 2025, the 2,852-passenger Eclipse is one of Celebrity's largest vessels. About 85% of Eclipse's accommodations include verandas, and cruisers who splurge on suites and AquaClass staterooms receive butler service and access to exclusive specialty dining. All cabins offer interactive flat-screen TVs and 24-hour room service.
As far as activities go, travelers can stay active at the Lawn Club, lounge by three pools, participate in hot glass classes and shop at a variety of upscale boutiques. In the evenings, cruisers can enjoy theme parties, comedy acts and Broadway-style shows. Meanwhile, kids programming (geared toward guests ages 3 to 17) is available through Camp at Sea.
When it comes to dining, past cruisers praised the variety of casual and formal choices. The ship offers 10 eateries, including four specialty venues where reservations are required and additional charges apply. From the room stewards to the restaurant servers, Celebrity Eclipse's staff was also a point of praise among recent guests.
Celebrity Eclipse offers itineraries in the Caribbean, South America, the Pacific, Bermuda and more.
Nautica welcomes up to 670 passengers and 400 crew members, so cruisers can expect plenty of attention along with a less congested (and typically kid-free) onboard atmosphere. All cabins are outfitted with flat-screen TVs and minibars, and the majority have private verandas. Oceania Nautica underwent a dramatic, $100 million fleetwide refresh in 2022. With the updated renovation, guests can enjoy freshly revamped Suites, Staterooms and marble bathrooms, plus new fixtures all around the ship.
When it's time to dine, passengers can choose from five restaurants, including the Terrace Cafe and the elegant Grand Dining Room. There are also plant-based gourmet menu items available. Onboard activities are geared toward an older crowd, ranging from afternoon tea to services at the Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center. Nighttime entertainment offerings include musical acts and craft cocktails at the martini bar.
Oceania Nautica sails to various destinations in North America, Asia, Africa and Europe and more.
Norwegian Jewel
The 2,376-passenger Norwegian Jewel (the namesake of the line's Jewel-class ships) has been cruising since 2005 and and underwent an extensive refurbishment in 2022. It reemerged boasting more than 25 refreshed venues. With its low 1-to-2 crew-to-guest ratio, the ship makes tailored experiences a priority.
With 14 eateries and 12 bars and lounges, every guest has plenty of elbow room. Passenger favorites include the specialty Brazilian steakhouse.
While Jewel appeals to a variety of traveler types, it's especially well-suited for families thanks to its age-appropriate kids clubs, a video arcade and waterslides. But there are plenty of diversions to keep grown-ups occupied as well, such as a full-service spa, a casino, sports facilities and an art nouveau-style theater.
As for lodging, cruisers can choose between Inside, Oceanview, Balcony, Club Balcony Suite and Suite category cabins. Those looking for even more space and luxury should opt for a cabin in The Haven, which offers multiple bedrooms and access to a private sun deck.
Norwegian Jewel sails to a variety of destinations throughout California, Alaska, Asia, Mexico, South America and more.
The 670-passenger Oceania Insignia, which was dramatically redesigned in December 2018, maintains a nearly a 1-to-2 crew-to-passenger ratio, which means staff members can provide personalized attention to guests. The expansive redesign included new marble bathrooms, redesigned suites and staterooms and a facelift for the ship's public spaces.
When it comes to dining, guests can choose between five sit-down venues and sip libations at one of several bars and lounges. Activities on the ship are geared toward older cruisers; they include afternoon tea, board games, a casino and nightly live shows.
Insignia offers four cabin types: Inside, Ocean View, Veranda and Suite. Inside and Ocean View cabins are smaller, while Veranda cabins and Suites offer more legroom (between 216 and 1,000 square feet). All cabins come equipped with flat-screen TVs, minibars and 1,000-thread-count linens. Suites include extra perks, like 24-hour butler service and in-room iPads.
Oceania Insignia sails to destinations in Asia, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and more.
Majestic Princess
Welcoming 3,560 guests and 1,346 crew members, Majestic Princess touts new features not available on any other Princess ship, including two specialty restaurants with dinner menus created by Michelin-starred chefs. Beyond the ship's specialty restaurants, passengers can dine in three main dining rooms and grab snacks and beverages at a handful of casual eateries, including lobster and wok-style noodles.
Similar to the rest of the Princess fleet, this ship houses the Lotus Spa, a casino, a fitness center, a sports and pool deck, and the SeaWalk – a glass-paneled walkway that stretches 28 feet beyond the ship's edge. Majestic Princess also features several bars, lounges and theaters. One of the ship's most noteworthy performances is the Watercolor Fantasy Show, a choreographed water show set to music.
Majestic Princess offers a variety of lodging types, with Interior cabins measuring between 158 and 162 square feet and Suites spanning 323 to 1,500 square feet. Though cabin sizes vary, all feature flat-screen TVs, minifridges and desks.
This ship sails to destinations in Alaska, Australia, Mexico, California, Hawaii and the South Pacific.
Brilliance of the Seas
Introduced in 2002, Brilliance of the Seas houses 2,543 passengers and 848 staff members. The ship's last major refurbishment was in 2013, but it received some Oasis-class updates in April 2018 (plus new furniture and fresh carpeting). The ship is big enough to offer an array of activities, yet small enough to pass through canals and offer more unique itineraries than larger ships in the fleet.
Brilliance of the Seas offers eight restaurants, including five specialty options. The ship also provides entertainment for the whole family, including poolside movies, a three-story theater, a rock climbing wall and a mini-golf course. While adults grab a cocktail at one of the bars, kids and teens can enjoy age-appropriate youth clubs.
As far as lodging goes, about 75% of the ship's cabins offer ocean views (and about half of those come with balconies). The most budget-friendly cabins are Interior staterooms (170 square feet). All include amenities like flat-screen TVs and minifridges.
Brilliance of the Seas departs from ports throughout North America and Australia for a variety of sailings around the world.
Silver Shadow
Silver Shadow is slightly larger than the older Silversea ships, but not as big as the Silver Spirit . Last refurbished in 2019 (and debuted in 2000), the 392-passenger ship maintains a nearly 1-to-1 staff-to-guest ratio, with 302 crew members. For past cruisers, it was the friendly crew's attention to detail that helped set Silver Shadow apart from its competitors.
Recent passengers praise the all-suite accommodations, which range from the Vista Suite (287 square feet) to the two-bedroom Grand Suite (1,435 square feet). All cabins offer ocean views and more than 80% include private balconies. Standard amenities include butler service, minifridges and full baths with separate showers.
When guests aren't in their rooms, they can utilize the ship's facilities, which include shopping boutiques, a casino, a beauty salon and an expansive pool deck. The ship also offers four dining venues, including La Dame, a specialty French restaurant with an additional reservation fee. As for nighttime entertainment, passengers have their pick between several cocktail lounges and the ship's performance venue.
Silver Shadow sails throughout North America, South America, Australia, Asia and more. It also completes some transoceanic voyages.

Canada & New England Cruises from Boston, Massachusetts
At certain times of the year, New England and eastern Canada’s landscape transitions from the tranquil green of summer to an autumn scene of burning reds, oranges, and yellows. Leaf season further frames the local culture, influenced by the English and French, offering a glimpse into early American history, and capturing quintessential regional aspects.
Because of these factors, many travelers in the U.S. and across the globe decide to embark on a Canada and New England cruise in the spring, summer, and fall. These trips, many leaving from Boston, travel up the New England coast, stopping at a few towns and cities by the shore. Then, once in Canada, the ship sails around Nova Scotia and down the St. Lawrence River, taking you past unique Canadian landscapes, through history, and to two of the country’s major cities.
What are your traveling options?
Cruise Lines
Prefer the traditional contemporary experience? Looking for something a hint more upscale and intimate? Boston’s one of the most popular ports for beginning a cruise to Canada and New England, and because of this, you’ll have a choice of several cruise lines when planning your trip: • Holland America • Norwegian Cruise Line • Royal Caribbean • Seabourn • Silversea
Trips, depending upon itinerary, last five to 21 nights at sea.
Itineraries
For cruises to Canada and New England, your itinerary may be round-trip, taking you to Quebec or Montreal, and then going back through Canada to Boston, or may be one-way, in which your vacation ends in Canada. During the course, you may pass through:
Nova Scotia: Cruise lines frequently include Halifax, the province’s capital city. In the past, Halifax assisted with rescuing passengers from the Titanic; as such, its museums and monuments touch on this event. As well, Halifax is home to the world’s second-largest natural harbor, and as you travel around, you’ll likely note its beautiful scenery, serving as the backdrop to many college campuses, restaurants and pubs, a restored waterfront, and music festivals.
Prince Edward Island: Novel Anne of Green Gables put Prince Edward Island on the map, and many of the island’s aspects reflect this. Tours of communities and landscapes let you in on what influenced L.M. Montgomery. However, there’s more to this location, and as you spend time in port Charlottetown, you’ll discover strong Scottish and Irish cultural influences, and have a chance to taste some of the region’s best seafood.
Bar Harbor: This port in northern Maine is an attraction for Acadia National Park. While it’s one of the nation’s smallest national parks, it’s home to a stunning landscape of cliffs, mountains, and seascapes, and offers 125 miles of trails for hiking and biking.
Saguenay: This Canadian port’s located on the fourth-largest fjord in the world, a natural wonder measuring 60 miles long, one mile wide, and 1,150 feet tall. This attraction essentially shapes your time in Saguenay, considered a draw for outdoor enthusiasts. Excursions often let you explore the surrounding park land by foot, kayak, and even helicopter.
Gaspe: As Gaspe’s home to Forillon National Park, this city of 17 coastal villages along a peninsula is all about the outdoors. Pick your activity, from hiking trails and rock formations, visiting the largest bird sanctuary in North America, and learning about Jacques Cartier’s exploratory journey.
Quebec City: Travels remark about Quebec City’s walk-ability and Old World charm. As you explore this city located on the St. Lawrence River, you’ll clearly see French and English influences, and maybe even have the opportunity to visit the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac, one of the world’s best-known hotels.
Montreal: As Canada’s second-largest city, Montreal stands out for its strong French influences, which pervade nearly every aspect of its culture. Yet, while you’ll see plenty of signage in French as you walk around town, Montreal’s also home to many immigrant populations and a wide range of architectural styles.

Are you already dreaming about your next vacation? It’s never too early to start thinking about where you want to go! One of the key things to consider when planning your trip is what time of year to do it. The best time to cruise from Boston really depends on where you’re sailing. If you’re planning a cruise from Boston to Canada, you’ll find most itineraries set sail in the fall. This is a beautiful time to see ports of call like Halifax, Bar Harbor and Charlottetown because the autumn foliage will be at its peak. Cruises from Boston to the Caribbean, on the other hand, can take place throughout the year because the weather in these tropical islands is usually mild and sunny no matter what the season. In fact, sail dates for itineraries from Boston to the Caribbean can vary each year, so it’s best to check dates well in advance. Whether you’re leaning more toward a northeast vacation to beautiful towns in the northern United States and Canada, or a tropical cruise to some of the most popular shores in the Caribbean, Boston is a great departure port for anyone who lives in the New England area.

6 Top Boston Harbor Cruises
B oston is the most populous city in New England – and for good reason. This Massachusetts metropolis may host modern shopping, dining and cultural attractions , but Boston is built upon a rich American tapestry created over the centuries that's still visible in its quaint neighborhood streets and stone houses. The city's historic harbor along the Massachusetts Bay set the scene for a significant portion of Boston's story; once the site of Revolution-era protests like the Boston Tea Party, this body of water is now primarily used for revelry. No visit to Massachusetts' capital city would be complete without some time on Boston Harbor.
If you'll be in Beantown during the warmer months, consider boarding a schooner for an hour or two of sightseeing. Cruises on the harbor offer a range of historical tours, romantic dinners, unique brunches with friends or even the chance to spot some endangered whales. Whether you opt for a tall ship or a smaller vessel, soak in city views and enjoy your time on the water with the following top Boston Harbor cruises.
Boston Harbor City Cruises by Hornblower – Boston Harbor Whale Watch Cruise
Price: Adults from $70; kids from $50
Duration: 3-4 hours
Hornblower's City Experiences brand offers a wide variety of land-based and on-the-water tours. One of the most popular options is its whale watching cruise, which it operates with the New England Aquarium . From Boston's Central Wharf, you'll head to Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, one of the world's most active marine sanctuaries. Whales in the region include humpbacks, minke whales, the endangered right whales and more. You can also try to spot sea birds, dolphins and other marine life. Travelers say the boat tour is great fun and most report seeing whales on the trip.
Tours generally run daily from spring through fall. Exact departure times vary by season. You'll want to arrive at least 15 minutes early and take some medication if you're prone to motion sickness. If you plan to pair this cruise with a trip to the aquarium, you can book a combo ticket to save a bit of money. Boston Harbor City Cruises also runs a variety of dinner cruises.
