Lessons from My First Semester in Nursing School

Nursing is a challenging yet incredibly rewarding career. The first challenge? Getting through nursing school. Current student Janet Chan shares her insights after her first semester as a nursing student.

BY JANET CHAN, TRADITIONAL BS IN NURSING STUDENT | NOVEMBER 19, 2018

woman at computer with to do list.

When I was accepted to nursing school, I had a rush of emotions, ranging from excited to downright terrified. It was what I wanted my whole life, yet I knew it would be a hard journey – I knew that I had to make changes to myself: my work ethic, my whole way of thinking.

I asked friends and former nursing students about their experiences and what I should do to prepare – the universal answer was priority . The transition from taking prerequisites with a large class size to a close knit lecture with only 70 students is a major change, but an even bigger change is the workload that comes with nursing school; before you know it you’ll be swamped with projects, textbook readings, and extracurricular activities, all due one after the other. All of a sudden the strategies employed for studying in a standard undergraduate program is no longer adequate – it all comes down to prioritizing.

Planning (Ahead) for Success

My secret weapon to prioritizing is my planner. This is a generic sounding piece of advice, and yet it has helped me immensely. I look over any syllabi or handouts that professors provide before the semester starts to ensure I know exactly when things are due; I then create a plan of attack for all the exams, assignments and projects. This gives me a physical and mental calendar, a reminder of every assignment to ensure I don’t miss one.

Being on top of the workload is essential, as it quickly accumulates throughout the school year.

The final touch is a daily schedule and daily reminders on my phone so I know how much time I need to dedicate to studying. My daily schedule consists of when I wake up, what classes I have throughout the day, what time I have to study, and when I should go to sleep. A great app that I’m using, Momentum, can also be added as an extension to Google Chrome.

When I break down my days, I try to plan them out at least two days in advance so that I have leeway for any unexpected events that might occur. Nursing school is a carnival; you want to go on all the rides, and yet there are only so many hours in the day. By planning out your day and prioritizing, you can get the most out of your experience.

The most valuable thing I learned so far as a nursing student is you have to know which coursework needs your attention first and which tasks can be done later so that you are working efficiently.

Challenge(s) Accepted.

The undergraduate nursing program not only requires your undivided attention, but also requires you to be prepared both mentally and emotionally for the various challenges that come with nursing school.

The summer before class started, I worked in a retail job simply to earn an income, but working retail had given much more: the experience of working with others from different backgrounds taught me valuable skills in multitasking and professional communication. As a nursing student, you will have to balance a plethora of tasks while regularly working with others.

Another challenge is dealing with those moments when you feel overwhelmed. It is important to find a stress reliever. I relieve my stress by meditating – if there is a break in my schedule, I take a 10 minute meditation session by closing my eyes, focusing on breathing and finding my quiet space. This helps me recollect myself and helps me shut out outside distractions. Of course, everyone has their own version of stress relief – it can be as simple as going for a short walk around the library, stretching in your seat or even taking a snack break. It is important to discipline yourself, timing yourself appropriately for these breaks.

Self-discipline is another strength that helps me through the challenges of the coursework. It really just comes with experience: it’s another essential for nursing school that you will have to learn on the way.

My first exam in nursing school was a bit of a rude awakening for me – I had always thought myself to be well disciplined, yet the exam showed me how far I had yet to go.

I went through the motions for studying that I had honed for four years through my undergraduate psychology program. After this particular exam, I realized that I had to change my ways. The next time, I forced myself to start my study sheet and notes the same day that a new topic was introduced; I also made sure that I understood previous lectures before moving on to the new ones, and the results definitely showed for my next exam. This helped me realize just how important it was to remain focused and undistracted when I am studying or doing assignments. I began to work free of distractions – studying alone, with my phone turned off. When I study with friends, I try to ensure that we minimize distractions and work together to understand the materials; it helps to organize small study groups who are focused on the work and willing to help each other out.

Onward and Upward!

Nursing school, for all the challenges it provides, will still be an amazing time in your life where you not only learn essential skills, but also meet wonderful people who will push you to be the best. Be confident and don’t be afraid to admit your mistakes, just make sure you learn from them. UB Nursing is a one-of-a-kind program and when you start adjusting to the madness, it feels like home. Your professors are your best resources; they are well versed in their profession, and their experience is your key to success.

Take initiative and attend the programs or volunteer opportunities that the school has to offer – just remember how to prioritize! I hope that this post gives you a glance of what nursing school really is, a chaotic, wonderful adventure towards our shared goal of helping people.

With that, I will leave you with this quote by educator, author and businessman Stephen Covey: “The key is not to prioritize your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.”

UB School of Nursing welcomes comments from readers. Please submit your comments in the box below.

I appreciate this essay written by Janet Chan. As a traditional student myself, I agree prioritization is a key factor to success in nursing school. This essay has provided me with useful strategies to use while finishing my first semester in Nursing. Thank you for posting this essay.

Thanks for sharing. In my opinion, one part that is key in the process of being successful in nursing school, is the program and instructors as well. I attended an ABSN at Concordia College of NY and it was a terrible experience. Choosing the right school and a program that caters and cares about their students makes this rough path less stressful. I would love to read about your experience with your instructors and programs rules. Have a great second semester!

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on My First Train Journey

Excitement of the journey.

My first train journey was an exciting experience. I was about seven years old and the journey was to my grandmother’s place.

The Train Ride

The train’s rhythmic chug-chug and the changing scenery fascinated me. I loved watching the fields, villages, and cities passing by.

The Destination

Finally, we reached our destination. I was thrilled to see my grandmother waiting for us. This journey left a deep impression on me.

250 Words Essay on My First Train Journey

The anticipation.

My first train journey was a blend of excitement, anticipation, and a hint of anxiety. As a child, I had always been fascinated by the rhythmic chugging of trains, so the prospect of experiencing it firsthand was thrilling. The bustling train station, with its myriad sights and sounds, was a sensory overload that both bewildered and intrigued me.

Boarding the Train

Boarding the train felt like stepping into a different world. The narrow corridors, the compact cabins, and the continuous hum of the engine created an atmosphere that was both cozy and adventurous. The train’s departure, marked by a long whistle, was a signal that my journey had officially begun.

The Journey

The journey itself was a tapestry of experiences. The changing landscapes outside the window, from urban cityscapes to serene countryside, were like a slideshow of diverse geographical features. The rhythmic movement of the train, coupled with the occasional jolts, added a unique physical dimension to the journey.

Interactions and Insights

Interacting with fellow passengers was another highlight of the journey. Each person had a story to tell, and listening to them provided insights into different cultures, lifestyles, and perspectives. This social aspect of the journey was an unexpected but pleasant surprise.

My first train journey was an enriching experience that broadened my horizons and deepened my understanding of the world. It was not just a physical journey from one place to another, but also a journey of personal growth and discovery. The memories of this journey remain etched in my mind, serving as a reminder of the adventure that lies in exploring the unknown.

500 Words Essay on My First Train Journey

The genesis of the journey.

My first train journey was an experience that is etched in my memory forever. The excitement that was bubbling within me was akin to a child being handed a candy. It was my first ever experience moving away from the comfort of my home and embarking on a journey to a new city.

Preparation and Anticipation

The days leading up to the journey were filled with a mixed bag of emotions. I was eager, excited, but also a bit anxious. The thought of traveling alone was daunting, yet it was an adventure I was looking forward to. I spent days meticulously planning my journey, packing my bags and double-checking my tickets.

Embarking on the Journey

The day of the journey finally arrived. The hustle and bustle of the railway station, the cacophony of sounds, the myriad of people, everything was new and intriguing. As I stepped onto the train, I felt a sense of exhilaration. The train, with its giant wheels and robust engine, was a spectacle to behold.

The Journey Unfolds

As the train started moving, I felt a rush of adrenaline. The landscape outside began to change gradually, from the familiar cityscape to the unknown countryside. The train chugged along, cutting through the vast fields, crossing rivers, and piercing through mountains. The rhythmic sound of the train wheels against the tracks was almost hypnotic.

Experiencing Diversity

One of the most captivating aspects of my journey was the diversity I witnessed. The train was like a microcosm of our society, with people from different walks of life sharing the same space. I had the opportunity to interact with various people, each with their unique stories and perspectives. It was a humbling experience that broadened my horizon and enriched my understanding of the world.

Reflections and Learnings

As the journey came to an end, I was filled with a sense of accomplishment. I had successfully navigated my first-ever train journey. It was a journey that taught me to be independent, to adapt to new situations, and to appreciate the beauty of diversity. It was not just a physical journey, but also a journey of self-discovery and growth.

In conclusion, my first train journey was an unforgettable experience that left an indelible mark on me. It was a journey that transcended the physical boundaries and ventured into the realm of personal growth and understanding. It was a testament to the fact that journeys are not just about reaching a destination; they are about the experiences we gather and the lessons we learn along the way.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

English 3Period. E

Since the end of my sophomore year, I feel that my growth as a writer has been developing, and I think I am finally starting to get a glimpse of my potential as a writer. Despite the talent, or skill that I may have as a writer, I know that success can never be measured, and there are so many things I have yet to learn, and so much more room for me to improve. Although some may take that statement as being a negative comment, I consider it as positive, because I am not willing to stop because I received a couple good grades on some papers throughout this first quarter. This year, I want to keep growing, developing, and strengthening as a writer, and I am happy that I realized the p

ower of hard work and the effect it has on true success. Throughout this first quarter I have been focused on getting back on task after summer vacation, and getting back in the habit of assigned writing. I take ideas and comments that are given to me and use them to make my paper better.

I definitely feel that I have been meeting my goals so far. One of my goals for the first quarter was to stay organized. I believe I stayed on tack with this goal. I am satisfied because I am not usually an organized person, so I knew to accomplish this goal I would have to try hard. Since the beginning of the year, I have stayed on track with finishing my assignments early, all while keeping everything neat in a separate folder. A

second goal was to use a thesaurus so that I can have a variety of wording in all my paper, instead of repeating or overusing words. I often found myself looking myself looking in a thesaurus or dictionary in effort to add some variety to my papers. So far I have kept on track with these goals and I hope to maintain them through the year. I will continue to meet my goals by remembering that with every assignment I complete, I will grow as a writer.

So far we have explored the great works of the Transcendentalist of American literature. We have explored great philosopher named Henry David Thoreau. I have enjoyed reading his great views on nature and life surrounding us. Henry is very independent and self?reliant. We learn that he is a free spirited man, who loves nature and always speaks his mind. I enjoyed the papers we have done so far with his works. It has taught me to write in a new way. I learn his views on the beauty of the general things in life and not the materialistic things. While reading his writing I dawned upon some words he said, " Not until we have lost the world do we begin to find ourselves, and realize where we are and the infinite extent of our relations." This quote relates to the readings we have read so far this year. Through the readings and papers I have come to have a better understanding of the great American thinkers.

I have thought a lot about my goals for this upcoming marking period. First, I recognize the importance of staying on task

in the classroom. I have done a good job so far at using my time wisely, and completing assignments that arent even due on that day, but I am making it one of my goals because it is essential that I continue to do this. My last goal for this upcoming quarter is taking suggestions from my peers. I am going to use the suggestions from peers to revise my work. This is why getting good feedback is important to me. I sometimes get sick of people only giving praises or saying good things about an assignment, because I rely on other peoples thoughts and ideas to help make my paper even better.

In closing, I would like to say that I am optimistic about this year. I know that in just eight months everything that I have strived on for the past two years will be worthwhile. Naturally it saddens me to realize how fast high school is moving along. One day I know that all my hard work will pay off. These past two months I have gotten a glimpse about what junior will be like? I am positive and confident about the rest of the year, and I think it will be both challenging and fun. As we head into the second quarter of our school year I will continue to work hard and stay focused on what is to come. I anticipate what else English three has in for me over the next few months.

Essay On My First Journey By Train

Essay on my first journey by train: An interesting and enjoyable experience could be taking a train ride. Not only they are interesting, but travelling long distances by train is pocket-friendly and comfortable. I have enjoyed taking train trips to several locations in and outside India, and these experiences have left me with some of the best memories. Essay on My First Journey by Train in 500 Words

Travelling by train is so much fun, cosy, and interesting. Indian railways have made intercity and interstate journeys so interesting and smooth. My first journey by train was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will never forget.

My First Journey by Train

My first journey by train was from Delhi to Dehradun. This was a 6-hour 20-minute journey with my family, where we all laughed, ate lunch, and watched the beauty of the Ganga Plains.

When I saw the New Delhi Railway Station, I had a mixed feeling of excitement and anxiety, nervousness and exhilaration. Everyone at the station was in a hurry, the platform was filled with passengers waiting for their train, and the classic Indian Railway announcement was over the speakers.

As I stepped off the train in Dehradun, a sense of achievement swept through me. I was amazed not only by the destination but also by the amazing journey. My wanderlust was sparked by this first train trip, which was a treasure trove of experiences that left me with lifelong memories.

Advantages of Journey by Train

  • Trains let you stretch out and sleep on long journeys, unlike buses or cars.
  • There isn’t a luggage limitation. Unlike flying, where there is a weight limit, travelling by rail allows one to bring as much luggage as they desire.
  • Long trips are made more comfortable by the restrooms on trains.
  • On a train, one can work or study in comfort using a laptop. As a result, the time spent travelling can be used effectively.
  • Trains are much more cost-effective than taxis and aeroplanes. It is possible to travel large distances at a low price.

Disadvantages of Journey by Train

  • The requirement to arrange the trip and purchase tickets several days in advance is one of the main drawbacks of taking the train. This is not like travelling by bus or vehicle, where one can make plans and start the journey the next day.
  • Purchasing a ticket might be rather demanding. When purchasing tickets at the train station, customers must wait in queue for hours. Purchasing train tickets online also takes a lot of time because the railway booking website might occasionally become quite slow owing to high usage.
  • Although there are restrooms and washrooms on the trains, they are not as sanitary and clean as they ought to be.
  • There are several reasons why trains are frequently delayed. This can be very tiresome and irritating.
  • Train travel takes far longer than aeroplane travel. For people who have an urgent need to get somewhere, it is not a good alternative.

Travelling by train has its benefits and drawbacks. While making advance plans, purchasing tickets, and adhering to rigorous train schedules might be annoying, they also have certain benefits, such as comfortable travel and efficient use of time. I truly enjoy taking train trips, having taken several of them.

Quick Read: Essay Topics for in English

Paragraph on my first journey by train

Ans: Writing a journey-by-train essay requires you to organise your story. Set the setting, introduce any characters, and then give an overview of the events or characters. Explain the trip, mentioning the sights and sensations, and consider their importance or influence. Summarise your feelings and thoughts to close.

Ans: Travelling by train is affordable, cosy, and interesting. That alone is a whole experience. Rather than hurrying to reach where I’m going, I prefer to take my time when travelling by train. I’ve met a lot of new individuals and made a lot of friends on my rail journeys.

Ans: Grammar-wise, both travel by train and by train are acceptable. Depending on your preference, you may use either phrase. You could say, for instance, that you enjoy travelling by train or that you prefer to travel by rail.

my first quarter journey essay

I’ve always been a planner, and I entered college with a serious plan . During my senior year in high school, I did my research. I knew what campus life would be like, what sorority I would be in, and what my day-to-day would be like. I had endlessly scoured the internet for articles that would tell me the  Top 10 Mistakes Not to Make in College and How to Redefine Yourself in College. I devoted a great part of my summer to creating my ideal college experience; how I thought things would go.

Boy, was I wrong.

When I say things didn’t exactly go as planned, I certainly don’t mean that things didn’t go well. In fact, they almost went better than expected.

Because that’s the thing with life, isn’t it? You always have a plan for how things will go or how your life will pan out. And it rarely happens that way. Your life twists and turns in ways that are different, new, and exciting. Just because you didn’t plan it doesn’t mean that isn’t the path you’re supposed to be on.

So today I wanted to write this article to provide some suggestions and reminders to girls entering college. With all my knowledge earned from 10 weeks at college , I present the ten most important things I learned during my first quarter .

Table of Contents

1. Your Roommate Probably Won’t Be Your Best Friend

my first quarter journey essay

I had high expectations for this one. I thought we would have late-night movie nights and gossip until dawn like one long, never-ending sleepover. Don’t get me wrong: I have a great roommate and I’m so, so lucky (I have heard some horror stories.)  But we are very different. She isn’t my best friend, but she is a great source of support and a nice person to live with.

My advice? Keep your mind open when it comes to rooming with someone. Maybe you won’t be best friends, but it could really work when it comes to sharing such a small space.

2. Putting a Little Effort in the Morning Makes You Feel Like You’ve Got Your Life Together

my first quarter journey essay

Though there is nothing wrong with totally bumming it, I’ve found that wearing a cute top with my favorite jeans or wearing a new item totally inspires me. I feel like I have my life totally in check when I’m prepared for the day, and I feel as if I am more likely to be taken seriously by professors.

However, putting a little extra effort in the morning not only includes clothing items, but your morning activities as well. Leaving a little extra room in the morning to stop by your favorite coffee shop or grab breakfast  is a great start to your day- and will make you feel ready to tackle whatever is ahead.

Disclaimer: This will absolutely not work for 8 AMs. Remember when you used to straighten your hair and roll up in your cutest outfit at 7:30 to your high school? This won’t happen. Wake up ten minutes before class and then applaud yourself for being on time.

3. Not Everyone Parties

my first quarter journey essay

This is perhaps the biggest misconception I had about college. When I thought of college, I thought of literally every college movie I had ever seen. Funny enough, college movies are really not too heavy on the studying and more focused on the endless parties.

Sure, college is a lot of fun, but there are some Saturday nights where I have to buckle down and study . Contrary to popular belief, school is not one endless rager.  You won’t find every single one of your classmates out on a Friday or Saturday night.

On that note, it is totally fine if you aren’t a crazy partier.  College is a place to find yourself, and if partying isn’t part of that identity, that is completely OK.

4. There Will Be Times Where You’ll Look Around and Wonder Where the Adults Are

my first quarter journey essay

I know we are all over eighteen, but sometimes I look around and think how crazy it is adults let us go live on our own.  Of course I have a Resident Advisor and a Floor Manager, but I rarely see any adults besides my professors.

I had this idea once I was in college I would feel like a grown-up adult. But I totally don’t. I do my own laundry and get myself to class in the morning, but I still rely on my parents for a lot, and sometimes all I want to do is go home.

I absolutely adore Parent’s Weekend because it feels like a sense of normalcy has returned. I know I’ll get used to this in time, but it is surprising how young I still feel.

5. Living in a Dorm is (Kinda) Weird

You probably guessed this one. I had my suspicions about the dorm life before school even started (ugh, shared bathrooms) .

Having little to no privacy and the thinnest walls you’ve ever imagined has been a little bit of a learning curve. I’ve had some rocky starts in the dorm (dealing with a roommate and RA) and at times I’ve wanted to give up.  Sharing space is so, so difficult, especially when you’re living in the same room as your roommate. And I’m always sick. My roommate has the flu? I have the flu.

I’m still trying to figure this one out. However, a glimmer of hope: I have gotten used to things I never thought I would. Sharing a bathroom isn’t as weird as it sounds; this I can promise.

And my advice? Try to make your dorm room like your home .  Bring your favorite candles, blankets, whatever. Just make it your space.

6. You Can Do Anything You Set Your Mind To

Girls with Backpacks

Please believe me on this. You are at your college for a reason; they believed in you! When you applied to your school, there is a significant reason why they said YES. Think about this when you feel down. In college, there are moments where you sometimes doubt your self worth. Which is silly, and you totally shouldn’t, but sometimes you still do.

You just have to remember that you are here for a reason and purpose.  With hard work, you can absolutely do anything you set your mind to. Whether it is academic or social, you can always show up and do your best…no excuses!

7. You Will Do Things You Never Thought You Would Do

my first quarter journey essay

College is weird. I find myself thinking ‘I never thought I would do this’ at least once a day. Whether I’m making a sock puppet for class at 3 AM (I hadn’t made a sock puppet since at least the third grade) or dancing with my friends at a formal, that thought always runs through my head.

School has taken lots of wacky, crazy twists and turns, and I am grateful for that. Enjoy the weird journey you’re on, because it only lasts for a short while.

8. You Will Start to Redefine Yourself as a Person

I’m still figuring out who I am. Sometimes, I will surprise myself. The idea I had of myself in high school is mostly gone. I will slow myself down, whatever the situation, and think ‘Do I like this? Do I enjoy this?’ Whether I’m directing that thought towards a party or a class, I find thinking this helps me understand who I am. And, as I said, I sometimes surprise myself.

It’s okay if you want to try and change yourself for the better in college. It is a humble pursuit. However, don’t lose who you are. Becoming a totally different person for the next four years just isn’t going to happen. Keep exploring who you are, but don’t lose the person who has been there all along.

9. Don’t Complain, Just Get it Done

my first quarter journey essay

I can’t tell you how much college students complain (myself included). Our favorite topic? How much homework we have to do.  Through my ten weeks, I’ve learned the power of organization and the simple mantra: don’t complain, just get it done.

For all you procrastinators out there, I don’t know how you do it (check out a CF article on surviving college as a procrastinator here ). I’ve learned to plan my weeks out in both my planner and my Mac calendar , and finish assignments a week in advance in order to study for tests during the week. My system works very, very well for me, and it speaks to the power of being organized and using the ample time you have on the weekends.

My advice? Get it done. Invest in a planner, store notes on your computer, whatever it takes. Set goals to motivate yourself, and, if needed, believe in the power of an inspirational quote.  (I have quotes written on Post-Its taped all over my desk area.)

10. Take Advantage of Your School’s Resources

my first quarter journey essay

Please, please go to office hours. They’re perhaps the most helpful resource you’ll find at your school. Incoming freshman, this has probably been told to you at least  a million times. So I’ll tell you again because it is so important!  I’m so glad I listened when people told me this. It is absolutely essential.

Your school probably has a billion resources: a writing center, tutors, a math center, advisors. These resources are there for a reason!  Make use of these opportunities at your school.

Current college students: What are the most important things you learned about college your first year? High school seniors: What do you want to know? Comment down below!

My First Flight Essay & Paragraphs For students

Ever since I was little, I have loved flying through the air in a huge plane. It seemed so exciting and adventurous. My dream finally came true this summer when my family took our first flight together. In this essay, I will share all the incredible details of our big trip. By the end, you will understand why getting on that airplane was so special to me.

Table of Contents

My First Flight Experience Essay

The airport adventure.

I started with an early drive to the airport on our big travel day. I did not know what to expect in such a big building. (Topic sentence) Checking our bags, going through security and hunting for our gate entertained us for hours. Snack shops and restaurants dotted the wide hallways. Big departure boards listed places worldwide – I was amazed that airplanes could get us there! Everything felt like an exciting mystery to discover.

Taking (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Off and Landing

When it was finally time to board, I picked a window seat for the best view. Watching the runway from high above as we sped down was thrilling. (Transition) Lifting off into the clouds blew me away – suddenly, houses and cars became tiny toys! (Topic sentence) Landing gently back on land Hours later felt nothing short of magical. Seeing so much of the world from above makes me feel like an eagle circling the earth.

Clouds and Meals

Gazing out at fluffy cotton candy clouds endlessly drifting by kept me entertained for much of the flight. Some looked like hearts, animals or smiles, which sparked daydreams. (Transition) Snack boxes with chips and cookies tided me over between meals. The airplane food may not wow some, but I found it fun to enjoy together high above the world. (Topic sentence) My family also watched movies on our screens, which felt futuristic.

Our Destination Arrives

As we began our descent, the blue ocean and palm trees below came into focus. Hearing the flight announcement that our trip’s end awaited stirred excitement in my heart. (Transition) Stepping off onto a new foreign land for the first time felt surreal. After days of discovery, thinking of how flying brought us there so quickly was wild. (Topic sentence) That very first flight together created traveling memories our family will treasure forever.

In closing, every amazing part of flying for the first time felt enchanting and worthwhile. From airport adventures to mealtimes with loved ones among the clouds – it created a whimsical experience like no other. Though takeoff and landing blew me away most of all, the incredible journey itself proved why airplanes could join far-off lands in wondrous ways forever magical. Traveling by flight will become a beloved tradition our family continues making memories.

Essays About Journeys: Top 5 Examples and 7 Easy Prompts

Essays about journeys require recounting the events of your travel. Discover our guide with examples and prompts to help you write your essay.

No two journeys are the same, and various factors will always be at play. It’s the reason many documents their expedition through different mediums. Writing about journeys is similar to telling a real-life story that influenced your character or perspective.

Writing essays about journeys helps to develop your writing and observation skills as you recall and pick the highlights of your travel. Sharing your experiences can entice readers to take on a journey themselves. So, aim to inspire with this exciting essay topic.

5 Essay Examples

1. the best journey in my life by suzanne pittman, 2. road trips: everything you need for a comfortable journey by car by anonymous on gradesfixer.com, 3. the first day of my journey to adulthood by anonymous on papersowl.com, 4. life is a journey essay by anonymous on paperwritings.com, 5. long essay on train journey by prasanna, 1. reasons to go on a journey, 2. trip vs. journey, 3. how to enjoy long journeys, 4. my most memorable journey, 5. what makes a journey meaningful, 6. my dream journey, 7. a hero’s journey.

“I had to save a lot of money because I wanted very much to go on this journey with my friends. We planned our trip to take us around Europe. We were going to stop in various parts of Europe with family members and friends.”

The essay mimics Pittman’s travel itinerary during her journey in Europe. She includes all the trip details from the first to the last day and makes the readers feel as if they’re traveling with them. Pittman also offers some travel tips to help anyone who wants to visit Europe on a budget. These tips include staying with friends and relatives and taking comfortable train rides despite long distances.

“With proper planning, everything else seems effortless. You need to consider all factors when planning in order for you to enjoy a successful, stress-free adventure.”

The author believes that the primary purpose of traveling is to relax and have fun. They use the essay to teach how to plan car trips properly. Travelers must learn to budget and estimate expenses, including accommodation, gas, activities, and food. Picking a transportation means is also crucial as one needs to consider factors such as capacity, range, and utility.

“Although things didn’t go how I planned I’m still in college bettering myself and furthering my education. Anything is possible with a good support system and positive mindset.”

The essay narrates how the author’s journey into adulthood becomes a mini-vacation in Georgia after their top university rejects their enrollment. This rejection offers the opportunity to understand many great life lessons. Despite having five other universities to choose from, the writer realizes they only provide free tuition for the first semester. Ultimately, the author receives a full scholarship to a university closer to home.

“All people have the same journey to take – their life. As well as in the other journeys, there may be some inconveniences, disappointments and joys, and a lot depends on how we plan this particular journey and what attitude we develop towards it.”

In this essay, the writer shares that the best way to go on a life journey is with the most joy and minor damage you can endure. It’s constant work to continuously improve one’s life while developing positive qualities and thinking. But in doing so, you’ll have a solid foundation to achieve what you want out of life. However, the author still reminds the readers that they should always be ready to face unexpected events and deal with them in the best way possible.

“These days, people prefer traveling via airplanes because it is time-saving. But going by plane gets boring and monotonous. Train journeys are a relief from the monotony.”

For Prasanna, whether it’s a short or extended tour, a train journey offers an exciting travel experience. She talks about the local and regional trains in India, which are often overcrowded but still used by many as they are the cheapest, safest, and fastest mode of transport in the country. She also mentions that you’ll never get hungry when riding their local trains because of the vendors who sell Indian delicacies.

7 Prompts for Essays About Journeys

Essays About Journeys: Reasons to go on a journey

Everyone has different motives for traveling. Some go on a journey to appreciate beautiful sceneries, while some move to attend family or work-related gatherings. Some do so to run away from problems. For this prompt, research the common reasons to travel. You can also interview people on why they go on a journey and add any personal experiences.

It’s a trip when a person travels from one point to another without any transfers. Meanwhile, a journey is a more extended voyage that includes transfers and several trips. Compare and contrast trips and journeys to make your readers understand their similarities and differences. You can also have the advantages and disadvantages of each in your paper.

If writing an essay sounds like a lot of work, simplify it. Write a simple 5 paragraph essay instead.

The idea of having a long journey and discovering new things is exciting. However, the excitement can disappear when you’re far away from home. This is especially true for longer and farther travels. This prompt will help readers have a safer, more affordable, and more enjoyable trip by discussing the best long-distance travel tips. You can present an imaginary itinerary with estimated costs to make the essay more digestible.

Write about an unforgettable journey you’ve had through this prompt. Include the purpose of your travel, how you planned it, and if your timetable was followed. Share what you’ll improve on next time to make your journey even better; you can also talk about your companions and the activities that make the adventure worthwhile.

Journeys become meaningful when they enrich lives. It can be because of the destination, the people you are with, or the travel’s goal. Use this prompt to suggest how journeys improve us as humans. You can section your piece based on an individual’s objectives. For example, someone who wants to recharge and get away from the city will find meaning in going to a location far from technology.

Essays About Journeys: My dream journey

Although traveling can be tiring, 43% of travelers appreciate the experience they gain. Think of journeys you desire to be in and add your reasons. Then, you can share your plan on how to make it happen. For instance, you want to tour Southeast Asia and visit countries like the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. To make this dream journey come true, you’ll save for an entire year and work around a tight budget.

It’s normal to see the main character in a movie or novel go through a character arc before they become a true hero. Use this prompt to explain a hero’s journey and why the character must go through it. To give you an idea, Peter Parker was a shy and introverted kid who lived an everyday life before becoming Spider-Man. This makes him relatable to the audience and lets them understand his decisions in the following scenes.

For more examples, check out our guide to movies that follow the hero’s journey .

You can also talk about real-life heroes, such as doctors and firefighters. Interview someone with that profession and ask them why they decided to have their current career.
