Lorde announces new album Solar Power and world tour dates

Get ready to dance like no one's watching.

Lorde is back, and she's ready to rule your playlists.

A little more than a week after dropping her new summer bop, "Solar Power," which was streamed 30 million times in five days, the singer has announced the release date and track list of her upcoming third album, which arrives Aug. 20.

Produced by Jack Antonoff , the LP, also titled Solar Power, boasts 12 new songs inspired by the "natural world," Lorde said in a statement.

In a letter emailed to fans earlier this month, Lorde revealed details about the album and its visuals. "There's someone I want you to meet," she wrote. "Her feet are bare at all times. She's sexy, playful, feral, and free. She's a modern girl in a deadstock bikini, in touch with her past and her future, vibrating at the highest level when summer comes around. Her skin is glowing, her lovers are many. I'm completely obsessed with her, and soon you will be too… It's my divine pleasure to be introducing you, at long last, to my third studio album, SOLAR POWER."

Lorde added that the record is infused with "that infectious, flirtatious summer energy that takes hold of us all" and that it immortalizes "the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I'm outdoors. In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I've learnt to breathe out, and tune in."

To promote the album, the 24-year-old songwriter recently unveiled a cheeky photo of her leaping over a camera on her website . Her pal Ophelia snapped the shot in New Zealand. She also confirmed that she'd reunited with "Royals" director Joel Kefali for the "Solar Power" video, which features her in a yellow skirt and top, dancing in the sand as she sings an ode to the warmer months. The works form "an entire cinematic universe."

"I made something that encapsulates where I'm from — my family, my girlfriends, my outdoors, my constant ruminations," she said.

Lorde also announced the dates for her 2022 world tour, which kicks off Feb. 26 in New Zealand and lands in North America on April 3 in Nashville. Her final U.S. date will be May 7, 2022, in Santa Barbara.

Lorde Announces Tour, Reveals Release Date and Tracklist for New Album Solar Power

By Evan Minsker and Allison Hussey

Lorde

Lorde made her big return earlier this month with the release of “ Solar Power ” and the promise that a new album of the same name would arrive later this year. Today, she’s officially announced the follow-up to 2017’s Melodrama : Solar Power is out August 20. Find the tracklist and already-iconic album cover below.

Along with the detailing of her album, Lorde has announced a 2022 tour. She’ll start things off in her native New Zealand in February before heading to the United States and Canada for spring concerts. Lorde’ll then go to Europe and the United Kingdom for more shows. Find her schedule below.

“Solar Power” arrived with a new music video co-directed by Lorde and previous collaborator Joel Kefali. The song was co-written and co-produced with Jack Antonoff. Phoebe Bridgers and Clairo provided backing vocals on the song. “The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalising the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” Lorde wrote in a newsletter upon the single’s release.

According to a press release, as an alternative to being released on CD, Solar Power will be available as “an eco-conscious Music Box,” which has visual content, handwritten notes, photos, and a download card. “I decided early on in the process of making this album that I also wanted to create an environmentally kind, forward-thinking alternative to the CD,” Lorde said in a statement. “I wanted this Music Box product to be similar in size, shape and price to a CD, to live alongside it in a retail environment, but be something which stands apart and that’s committed to the evolving nature of a modern album.”

In November 2019, Lorde wrote in a newsletter update to fans that she had paused work on a new album as she struggled with grief after the death of her dog Pearl. But in May 2020, she issued another update where she said she’d started working on a new album in December.

Last year, Lorde announced Going South , a photo book of images shot by her friend Harriet Were during their trip through Antarctica in 2019. This spring, the singer-songwriter made an appearance alongside Marlon Williams during a performance in Auckland to cover Bruce Springsteen’s “Tougher Than the Rest.”

Find out where Melodrama landed on Pitchfork’s “ The 200 Best Albums of the 2010s .”

Lorde Makes Up for Lost Time With Blissful Tour Opener in Nashville

By Jon Freeman

Jon Freeman

NASHVILLE — “This is crazy for me — I haven’t been just somewhere else doing this,” Lorde told the audience at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House midway through opening night of her 2022 Solar Power tour.

She wasn’t kidding: Though she’s had one-off appearances here and there, the New Zealand singer-songwriter’s last full concert took place in Mexico City in 2018, when she was touring behind her second album, Melodrama . Her sun-kissed 2021 album Solar Power was released into an entirely different world , one that was reeling from pandemic isolation and a little rusty on having communal music experiences. Thankfully, it’s an album that was designed to soothe and make that reentry process easy.

Split across a series of three acts, the Solar Power tour leaned heavily on material from its namesake album, but threw in a heavy dose of Melodrama and a sprinkling of Pure Heroine for a show that could be intimate one moment, ecstatic the next. Hard to say if it was inspired by Lorde’s long gap between tours, but the passage of time even worked its way into Lorde’s set design — the focal point of her stage was a massive fulcrum that rotated a full 360 degrees at its base and doubled as both a sundial and a stairway ascending into the heavens. A giant orb was suspended above it on a backdrop, accented by dramatic lighting that made it glow in multiple colors.

In her opening act, Lorde began “Leader of a New Regime” behind the large circular base of the stairway, only her silhouette visible to the audience. When she emerged to sing “Homemade Dynamite,” she was in an oversized pastel-green pantsuit, dancing down a set of risers from the back as the audience shouted along. Only a small group of accompanists, all in matching yellow suits, were onstage, and they stood nearly motionless — as much set decoration as backing band.

Lorde returned to the stage for the second act in a backless yellow dress and sang “The Path,” kicking off a run of songs that exemplified the blissed-out vibe of Solar Power more than any other part of the concert. Other band members joined her on the stage, tapping out relaxed drum grooves and watery guitar sounds that called to mind Sixties psychedelic pop and sunset-to-sunrise beach parties, with a brief piano-only section that included “Dominoes” and “Loveless.”

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

Even the electronic pulse of the Pure Heroine cut “Ribs” seemed at home in this section of the show, though Lorde’s way of hugging her sides at the end of the song indicated that heavy emotions were welcome to come out in this golden environment.

“I’ve got a lot of shit I’m gonna be pulling to the surface and releasing on this tour,” she said. “If you have any of those big, similar emotions want to let free in this very safe space, you are invited to do so.”

Those big emotions from the crowd were expressed most loudly on the selections from Melodrama . With her third and final set, Lorde — this time in a leotard with a glimmering, exaggerated bustle — ramped up the tempo with a few of her older tunes. The darker undertone of Solar Power ‘s “Mood Ring” gave way to “Sober” and “Supercut,” during which Lorde danced in joyous, spontaneous fashion while the audience sang along, then applauded when she collapsed in dramatic fashion on the stage.

Lorde joked about having written the sun-kissed “Solar Power” while “sitting on a rock in the middle of the ocean,” then walked around the edge of her rotating stage as if crashing through the hours to find the next sunrise. The set closed with the pulse-quickening rush of “Green Light,” followed by the “gentle comedown,” in Lorde’s words, of “Oceanic Feeling.” For her encore, she reprised breakout hit “Royals” and added in the Solar Power cut “Hold No Grudge.”

The Grand Ole Opry House tends to go underused outside of its main duties hosting the long-running Opry show, so it was a surprising, unlikely spot for Lorde to kick off this iteration of her tour (on Grammy Awards night , no less). No matter — the young pop star made up for lost time, ensuring everyone in the crowd felt welcome to get what they needed out of the experience, and they didn’t let her down.

“Oh my goodness me, Nashville,” Lorde told the crowd earlier in the show. “Thank you for being such a kind, sensitive little group of fuckin’ ragers.”

Solar Power Tour Set List: “Leader of a New Regime” “Homemade Dynamite” “Buzzcut Season” “Stoned at the Nail Salon” “Fallen Fruit” “The Path” “California” “Ribs” “Hard Feelings” “Dominoes” “Loveless” “Liability” “Secrets from a Girl (Who’s Seen It All)” “Mood Ring” “Sober” “Supercut” “Perfect Places” “Solar Power” “Green Light” “Oceanic Feeling”

Lorde Details New Album Solar Power and 2022 World Tour

The New Zealand pop singer's third album arrives August 20th

Lorde Details New Album Solar Power and 2022 World Tour

Enjoy your Disney alums who don’t know how to drive and your butyraceous K-pop overlords, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lorde . The Kiwi superstar has announced that her new album Solar Power  arrives August 20th, and she’ll be promoting it on a massive 2022 world tour.

Four long years have passed since Lorde’s stellar 2017 statement Melodrama , and over that time the demand for her particular brand of intimacy, authenticity, and ear worms has only grown. Earlier this month she teased the title track, which was our Song of the Week , as well as the accompanying artwork, which challenged the old expression “where the sun don’t shine.”

Like its lead single, the album  Solar Power  was produced by Jack Antonoff . As the title implies, this 12-track LP will reflect on the beauty and power of nature. “The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” Lorde said in a statement. “In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”

Solar Power won’t be available on CD, but rather in a “in a first-of-its kind, discless format,” a release notes. “I decided early on in the process of making this album that I also wanted to create an environmentally kind, forward-thinking alternative to the CD,” Lorde said. Instead, she’s offering an eco-friendly Music Box, which includes additional visual content, handwritten notes, exclusive photos, and a download card. “I wanted this Music Box product to be similar in size, shape and price to a CD, to live alongside it in a retail environment, but be something which stands apart and that’s committed to the evolving nature of a modern album,” she said.

As for the world tour, it kicks off in New Zealand in February, and takes her to Australia, North America, and Europe. Along the way, she’ll make a couple of festival appearances, including at Primavera Sound  in Barcelona. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 25th at 10:00 a.m. local time. Afterwards, book your seat through Ticketmaster or on the secondary market here .

Update – June 24th:  Lorde has set additional shows in Toronto (4/9), Boston (4/13), New York (4/19), Chicago (4/23), Los Angeles (5/6), and London (6/3).

Update – June 28th: Tickets to Lorde’s upcoming tour are entirely sold out, but you can still purchase them via the secondary market here .

Nearly four years after she wrapped the U.S. leg of her last tour in Nashville, Lorde plans to return to Music City to launch a new run of North American shows.

The 24-year-old New Zealand-based singer-songwriter is scheduled to perform April 3, 2022, at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville — kicking off a run of U.S. shows as part of a world tour announced Monday.

The Opry House show comes in support of "Solar Power," an anticipated third album from Lorde, set to be released Aug. 20.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via ticketmaster.com . A fan pre-sale kicks off at 10 a.m. Thursday. More information on pre-sale and general tickets can be found at  lorde.co.nz/tour .

The singer surprised fans hungry for new music earlier this month by releasing the sun-soaked title track from her upcoming album. She reunited with collaborator Jack Antonoff — known for his work with Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey and solo project, Bleachers — to co-produce the lead single.

In a news release, Lorde described the new music as "a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors. In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through."

U.S. tour dates include stops in Detroit, Chicago, New York City and Los Angeles. Lorde wraps her North American dates May 7, 2022, in Santa Barbara, California.

Lorde Announces ‘Solar Power’ New Album, World Tour

Lorde performing live.

Lorde – Story by Cat Badra, photo by Ken Settle

Lorde’s new album comes in an “environmentally kind, forward-thinking alternative to the CD” format

After some time out of the spotlight, singer-songwriter Lorde is back with a new album. Lorde’s upcoming studio record, “Solar Power,” will hit stores Aug. 20, and she’ll embark on a world tour in 2022 to support the new tunes.

Lorde’s 2022 North American tour still set off April 3 in Nashville, Tennessee, and run through a May 7 date in Santa Barbara, California. Tickets for the newly announced run will go on sale to the general public starting this Friday (June 25) at 10 a.m. local venue time. For ticket information, head to Lorde’s official website .

What’s extra unique about this release is that “Solar Power” will arrive in a new “discless” music format that serves as a replacement for a CD. The format, called “Music Box,” includes bonus visual content, handwritten notes, photos and a download card.

Lorde calls “Solar Power” a “celebration of the natural world,” plus “an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors.”

She adds, “In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”

Lorde is teasing her fourth album: “If the tools do not exist you are spiritually obliged to create them”

The update comes after she performed two unreleased tracks at Boardmasters last summer

Lorde performs at Sziget Festival 2023 on August 14, 2023

Lorde has begun teasing her fourth album, taking to social media to hint to fans that she is well underway with new material.

  • READ MORE: Lorde’s bold live return showcases a radically different chapter

Rumours about the New Zealand singer releasing new music have been circulating for months now, with fans becoming increasingly certain that the follow-up to 2021’s ‘Solar Power’ was on the way.

She first reached global fame with her breakthrough single ‘Royals’ back in 2013, before sharing her debut album ‘Pure Heroine’ later that year. From there, she dropped the anticipated sophomore album ‘Melodrama’ in 2017, before releasing her latest project three years ago.

Now, according to a new post the singer has shared on social media, it seems that ‘L4’ is on the horizon, and the artist is currently in her creative zone.

Sharing an update on Instagram last night (June 4), the vocalist told fans that she is drawing inspiration from anywhere she can to create new music. “If the tools do not exist you are spiritually obliged to create them…” she wrote in the caption, also sharing some cryptic symbols and variations of ‘L4’.

The teaser Lorde shared last night comes after she hinted at new material back in December, and shared another cryptic post online suggesting that she was underway with the ‘Solar Power’ follow-up .

Recommended

Sharing an image of herself wearing headphones, she wrote the caption ‘Listening to myself’ – quickly leading to fans getting excited about new material. However, the Kiwi artist soon put a slight dampener on the prospect, saying that any new songs were still a long way off being finished.

“We’re not CLOSE close you guys .. i’m just getting so hype n needed to let u know,” she wrote. “Start ur excitement on a low flame and bring it up to a gentle simmer .. we building stamina for this chapter.”

The singer – real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor – also teased new material throughout summer 2023, both saying fans that she had “so much to tell” fans , and also using her slot at Boardmasters to premiere two unreleased tracks .

The songs – which were sandwiched between hits like ‘Homemade Dynamite’, ‘Buzzcut Season’ and ‘The Louvre’ – were originally billed as ‘Untitled #1’ and ‘Untitled #2’ on the festival’s printed setlist. The first track is suspected to be titled ‘Silver Moon’ , while the second second is rumoured by fans to be called ‘Invisible Ink’.

It remains unclear if those are the official titles for the songs, or they’re working titles at the moment. It is also unclear if the songs will appear on the new album.

Later that year, Lorde opened up to fans about how she was apparently “living with heartbreak” . She shared the news in an emotional letter to her fans, in which she said: “I haven’t seen many friends; mostly, I’m alone with my thoughts… I’m not trying to hide from the pain, I understand now that pain isn’t something to hide from, that there’s actually great beauty in moving with it. But sometimes I’m sick of being with myself.”

Writing about her huge return to the stage and new material, NME stated that the singer seems to be at the beginning of “a radically different chapter” .

“‘Solar Power’ was a breath of fresh air that carried the distinct whiff of passion project. It highlighted how powerful Lorde’s voice could be as a sort of musical tranquilliser,” it read, recalling how the run of live shows throughout 2023 showcased a “Night Vision edition” of her ‘Solar Power’ tour. “If ‘Solar Power’ had been a sad-girl party on the beach, this was a rave in a monastery – a baroque jamboree delivered with fight and bite.”

It's sun’s out, buns out time so grab some tickets to what is turning out to be the hottest gig around, tickets in New Zealand sold out in less than one minute! Almost 4 years to the day, Lorde drops her latest album in August 2021. The lead single “Solar Power” came out on June 10th, landing at the number 2 spot on the New Zealand chart, number 64 on the Billboard 100 and number 6 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts.

“The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” Lorde wrote in a newsletter she sent right after releasing the title track. “In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through… I want this album to be your summer companion, the one you pump on the drive to the beach. The one that lingers on your skin like a tan as the months get cooler again.” Two-time Grammy Award winner, two-time Brit Award winner, and Golden Globe nominee Lorde first broke through to fame with her debut album, Pure Heroine. The album turned triple-platinum and contains her Diamond-certified single “Royals,” which earned her two Grammy Awards for Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year, as well as the singles, “Tennis Court,” “Ribs,” “No Better,” and the four-time Platinum single, “Team.” Her second studio album, Melodrama, also received a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony.

Charli XCX, Lorde

Charli XCX ‘s “ Brat ” album is not out in the United States until tonight but fans in other parts of the world are already digging in. One of those fans is Lorde , who shared a sweet message about the much-anticipated record as rumors began swirling that one of the songs on “Brat” is focused on her.

New bundles point to broadband’s growing power in svod packaging, how to watch 'the kardashians' online, popular on variety.

On “Brat” album release day, Lorde took to Instagram to confirm there were no hard feelings between the pair, and shared a paragraph of praise for the album on her stories. She didn’t mention “Girl, So Confusing,” nor did she make note of Charli’s comments. Instead, she said: “The only album I’ve ever presaved is out today… Charli just cooked this one different… So much grit, grace and skin in the game. I speak for all of us when I say it’s an honour to be moved, changed and gagged by her work. There is NO ONE like this bitch.”

She also explained the song’s ethos, stating, “I think we live in the world of pop music right now where women are like, ‘I support other women! I love women! I’m a feminist,’ and that’s great. Love that… I don’t think you become a bad feminist if you maybe don’t see eye to eye with every single woman. That’s not the nature of human beings. There’s a competitiveness between us. There’s envy. There camaraderie. There’s all of these different dynamics.”

Lorde is reportedly working on her own record, the follow-up to 2021’s “Solar Power.” She’s been more active on socials than ever while fans eagerly await the New Zealand-born singer’s next move. Charli, meanwhile, will head out on her joint “Sweat” arena tour with Troye Sivan starting Sept. 14 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Mich. It marks both XCX and Sivan’s biggest venues to date.
