The LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort is on the B3022 Windsor/Ascot road just two miles from Windsor town centre. Please follow all the LEGOLAND signs on the local roads as this will get you to the Resort quicker. Dependent on your direction of travel, please use one of the following routes:

M3 (Junction 3)

M25 Northbound (Clockwise) traffic should exit at Junction 13.

M4 (Junction 6)

To save time on your way home we advise all guests in cars to turn right at the LEGOLAND roundabout and follow signs for the M25, M3 and M4.  This route is faster as it avoids traffic congestion in Windsor

25 Top Tips for Visiting Legoland Windsor (2024)

I visit Legoland Windsor with my kids at least once a year and have done so for six or seven years. Subsequently, when it comes to top tips for visiting Legoland Windsor, I know them all.

From skipping lines to saving money and avoiding meltdowns (of kids and adults) to secret spaces. I’ll be sharing it all in this post.

1. Measure Your Child in Advance

Legoland Windsor is marketed as suitable for families with young children. However, there are few rides at this theme park, with a height limit of under 1 meter and only a small handful with a height limit of under 90cm.

I therefore recommend you do two things before booking your trip to Legoland Windsor:

  • Measure your child
  • Research the height limits for rides

This should give you an idea of what rides your kids can and can’t go on at Legoland Windsor. This way, you can avoid those rides and subsequent disappointment on the day.

The most thrilling rides at Legoland Windsor all have a height requirement of 1.3m. On average, most kids don’t reach this height until they are around 7 or 8 years old.

2. Don’t Buy Park Tickets for Kids Under 90CM

Given the height requirement of many rides at Legoland Windsor, children under 90cm can enter the theme park for free.

You do not need a Legoland Windsor theme park ticket for children under 90cm . Instead, you can arrive at the Legoland theme park with your child and enter as you normally would.

3. Look for Vouchers & Discounts on Park Tickets

Legoland tickets are expensive. Thankfully, there are several discounts and vouchers available that can help you save.

In fact, these discounts and vouchers are so common I’ve never paid full price for tickets to Legoland. Discounts for Legoland Windsor I’ve used in the past include:

  • 2-for-1 voucher with Kellogs cereal
  • Visit Britain & The National Lottery campaign
  • 2-for-1 voucher with National Rail

When it comes to purchasing theme park tickets in the UK and abroad, we always use  AttractionTix . AttractionTix consistently has the  best prices on Legoland Windsor tickets .

Discounts and promotions for Legoland Windsor change throughout the year. However, in my experience, I’ve found the easiest way to find active deals is to:

  • Go to Google
  • Search ‘Legoland Windsor Discount Tickets’
  • Scroll through the results

If you are still looking for promotional offers, check the Legoland Windsor website. Legoland often has package deals with hotel stays and theme park tickets at a great price.

4. Book Tickets in Advance

Even if you can’t find a promotional offer for Legoland Windsor, you’ll still save up to 45% by buying your theme park tickets in advance.

You only need to book your Legoland Windsor tickets online one day in advance to get a discount . So, even if it’s a last-minute decision to visit, I still recommend buying online.

Another benefit to having your Legoland theme park tickets ready on arrival is that you won’t have to spend time queuing at the ticket counter.

Instead, you can head straight into the theme park and start exploring. This is especially important since the first hour inside Legoland also sees the shortest wait times.

5. Consider a Merlin Annual Pass

If you love visiting some of the best theme parks in the UK, consider investing in a  Merlin Annual Pass . Merlin is the company that operates multiple amusement parks across the UK, including;

  • Legoland Discovery Center
  • SeaLife Center
  • Alton Towers
  • Thorpe Park

With a Merlin Annual Pass, you can visit all these incredible locations and more. You’ll also get discounts on parking, food, drinks and souvenirs.

6. Avoid School Holidays

Unsurprisingly, school holidays are the worst time at Legoland Windsor. Visiting during these times means higher ticket prices and larger crowds.

However, avoiding the school holidays isn’t possible for everyone. So, if you have to visit Legoland during the school holidays, try to visit Monday to Friday when possible.

7. Book to Stay in a Legoland Hotel

If you want to enhance your visit to Legoland Windsor, then book a night in one of the two Legoland Windsor hotels.

  • Legoland Resort Hotel
  • Legoland Castle Hotel

Unsurprisingly, this experience doesn’t come cheap. However, it has several benefits that enhance your time at the theme park. These include:

  • Lego themed rooms
  • Private entrance to the Legoland Windsor theme park
  • Lego-themed indoor swimming pool & splash pad
  • Character meets
  • Complimentary breakfast
  • Complimentary parking
  • Evening entertainment
  • Lego gift for every child

8. Download the Legoland App

The Legoland Windsor mobile app is free and available for iOS and Android devices. If you download the Legoland app in advance of your visit, you can:

  • Get familiar with the layout of the theme park
  • Check the average wait times for the most popular rides

Meanwhile, during your visit to Legoland Windsor, you can use the mobile app to:

  • Find the nearest places to eat at Legoland
  • Check wait times for rides
  • See show times
  • Find the nearest bathroom

Free WiFi is available throughout Legoland Windsor. So you can access the app even if you don’t have mobile data.

I recommend adding a power bank to your Legoland Windsor packing list. This way, you can keep your phone fully charged throughout the day.

9. Purchase Parking in Advance

If you’re driving to Legoland Windsor, you must pay to park your car. Frustratingly, car parking isn’t included with Legoland Windsor theme park tickets. Instead, you’ll need to buy parking separately.

General parking at Legoland Windsor costs:

  • £8 when bought in advance
  • £10 when purchased at the exit barrier

Thankfully, there are several times you can buy your Legoland parking in advance. Including on the day of your visit via the QR codes signposted around the park.

You’ll only be charged the higher price of £10 if you haven’t paid for parking by the time you exit the car park.

10. Arrive Early

I have visited Legoland Windsor with my family almost ten times, and I’m still yet to experience everything this theme park offers in one day. Therefore, you must maximise every moment you have inside Legoland Windsor.

Legoland Windsor opens at 10:00 am. However, the turnstiles open 30 minutes earlier, at 9:30 am. However, I highly recommend arriving at Legoland Windsor 30 minutes earlier at 9:00 am .

This gives you plenty of time to park your car and walk to the theme park entrance before the turnstiles open at 9:30 am. From there, you’ve got a 30-minute wait until the theme park officially opens.

11. Go to the Back of the Theme Park

When the Legoland Windsor theme park opens, I recommend heading to areas at the back of the theme park. These include:

  • Pirate Shores
  • Lego Mythica

This will require a little walking once the theme park opens. However, this start-of-the-day strategy works very well for avoiding queues. So much so that you’ll notice many other regular visitors to Legoland Windsor doing the same.

That’s because most first-time visitors to Legoland Windsor turn left at ‘The Beginning’ and head down into Miniland.

However, by going to the back of the theme park, you’re going away from the majority. As such, you should experience attractions at the opposite time.

12. Bring Snacks

It’s no secret that the food and drink inside Legoland Windsor comes at a premium. However, you can bring your own food to Legoland Windsor.

If you’d like to bring a picnic to Legoland Windsor to save money on lunch, then this can be a great idea. However, the best idea is to bring plenty of snacks.

That way, if you find yourself in one of the long queues for a popular ride, you’ve got something to eat while you wait.

13. Decide Where You’re Going to Eat in Advance

Despite the size of Legoland Windsor, the food selection is mediocre at best. Therefore, I suggest deciding what type of food you’d like to eat before your visit and even taking note of where it’s located within the park.

This way, you shouldn’t have to walk 20 minutes to the other side of the theme park for lunch. Instead, you can plan the hour before and after lunch around this location.

14. Check Show Times

There are several shows at Legoland. All of which are only available at certain times. These include;

  • Return to Skeleton Bay in Heartlake City
  • Journey to Mythica 4D in Lego Studios 4D
  • Lego City Officer in Pursuit in Lego Studios 4D
  • Lego Ninjago Master of the 4th Dimension in Lego Studios 4D
  • Duplo Valley Theatre Performances in Duplo Valley

The times of these shows are not published in advance and are only available on the day of your visit. As such, if you want to see any of these shows, you’ll want to take note of the show times on the digital boards around the theme park.

15. Bring a Water Bottle

Summer can be a great time to visit Legoland Windsor, as you’ll likely have better weather. However, that makes staying hydrated on these days all the more important.

While Legoland sells bottles of water across the theme park, they are expensive. Instead, I recommend bringing a refillable water bottle. Legoland has several free water bottle refill stations around the theme park to help keep you hydrated.

16. Bring a Bank Card

Legoland Windsor is now cash-free . Cash is not accepted anywhere within the theme park.

It’s therefore essential you bring a bank card with you so you can buy food, drinks, snacks and souvenirs throughout the day.

17. Skip the Refillable Cup

Legoland Windsor offers a refillable cup. It currently costs:

  • £16 each for one
  • £14 each for two
  • £12 each for three or more

This refillable cup provides you with unlimited drink refills throughout the day. However, in most cases, the value of the Legoland refillable cup isn’t worth it.

A bottled drink inside Legoland Windsor costs between £2.85 and £3.05. As such, you’d need to buy six bottles for the refillable cup to be better value for money.

The only exception to this is if you’re planning to visit Legoland for a second day or revisit the theme park in the future. That’s because you can “recharge” your Legoland refillable cup for just £6.

In that case, the cost of one refillable cup over two days would be £22, equivalent to roughly 7 drinks or 3.5 drinks per day.

Of course, if you want a Legoland refillable cup, be sure to buy it as soon as you enter the theme park. This way, you can maximise the duration you can use it throughout the day.

18. Bring a Change of Clothes

Legoland Windsor has several water rides that will see you get very wet.

Of course, you don’t want to miss out on some of the park’s most incredible rides for fear of getting wet. However, walking around Legoland in damp clothes isn’t any fun either.

There are human dryers outside Legoland’s water rides available for a fee. However, the better option is to bring a change of clothes. This way, if you get wet, you can change in one of the many toilets around the theme park.

19. Pack a Swimming Costume & Towel

If you’re visiting Legoland Windsor with young children, keeping them out of the Duplo Splash Area will be nearly impossible. For this reason, most regular Legoland visitors bring swimming costumes to change into.

There are changing facilities adjacent to this area of the park and a coffee shop nearby for a drink and a snack afterwards.

20. Bring a Pushchair

Legoland Windsor is a huge theme park. As a result, you’ll spend a lot of time on your feet, walking or standing.

As such, if you have young children who are not used to walking long distances, bringing a pushchair with you to Legoland may be a good idea.

If you no longer have a pushchair, you can hire one at Legoland Windsor. The rental location is next to the Legoland Store in ‘The Beginning’ area of the theme park.

On my last visit to Legoland Windsor (September 2023), a single pushchair cost £10 and a double cost £15.

21. Invest in Reserve & Ride

Reserve & Ride (formerly known as Q-Bot) is a system that queues on your behalf. This gives you more time to spend exploring the park.

I have never managed to go on every ride at Legoland Windsor in one day. Therefore, if you have kids who can go on all rides inside Legoland, then Reserve & Ride may be a worthwhile investment.

Depending on your budget and preferences, there are several different Reserve & Ride options. You can buy this ticket upgrade at:

  • The Reserve & Ride stand in ‘The Beginning’ area of the Legoland Windsor
  • Online on the Legoland Windsor website

I recommend buying Reserve & Ride online in advance. This way, you have time to look at each of the options available and decide which one is right for you.

Plus, by buying Reserve & Ride in advance, you can head straight to the rides when the theme park opens rather than queue up at the Reserve & Ride stand.

22. Grab a Birthday Badge

Celebrating a birthday during your visit to Legoland Windsor? Then, head to Guest Services for a complimentary birthday badge and your name on the birthday dashboard, shown on screens around the park.

23. Take the Hill Train

Legoland is set on a hill. This can be fine going down into the theme park. However, after a long day of walking, climbing back up the hill to the gift shop and exit can be hard work.

Thankfully, Legoland operates a free hill train. This train takes you from the Land of the Vikings area back up to ‘The Beginning’.

24. Stay Until the Park Closes

As it gets closer to Legoland Windsor closing, you’ll notice the park begins to get quieter.

Subsequently, this can be one of the best times to go on any big ride you’ve not yet experienced. It can also be a great time to go on any water rides if you haven’t brought a change of clothes since you’ll be heading back to the car.

25. Visit the Gift Shop Early

If you plan to buy souvenirs during your trip to Legoland, visit the gift shop earlier rather than later.

Most people visit the main gift shop as they exit the theme park. This means that the gift shop is often very crowded during the last hour of the park being open.

Of course, while it’s great shopping earlier when the gift store is quiet, nobody wants to walk around the theme park with souvenirs. To combat this, Legoland Windsor has two shopping programmes:

  • Shopping Saver: This allows you to buy items from the gift store and leave them at the store until the end of the day.
  • Hotel Delivery: If you’re staying on-site in a Legoland Hotel, staff can deliver your purchases to your hotel room free of charge.

Legoland Resort Hotel is not the one ‘brick’ pony we thought it would be

An overnight stay at the windsor theme park deconstructed.

Legoland hotel at night

We arrived at the Legoland Resort Hotel on a sunny Friday afternoon and it would be fair to say the excitement in the back of the car exceeded that in the front. While I wasn’t exactly bricking it (this won’t be the last Lego-related pun, I’m afraid), my previous experiences of resort park hotels didn’t fill me with the confidence that I was in for a pleasurable stay.

However, from the moment I walked under the hotel’s ‘concierge’ - a smoke billowing Lego dragon - I began to think I was being overly pessimistic. The clouds lifted further upon entering the lobby where a rather whizzy online check-in allowed us to obtain our room cards in speedy fashion.

Little girl pointing at a Lego dragon

Making a splash

Before venturing to our quarters for the evening – a luxury family Pirate room – we had another piratic appointment to keep: a ‘splashbuckling’ date at the hotel’s pirate splash pool.

The facility is divided into two areas: a small heated pool perfect for children of any age, and a separate area replete with mini slides. The sessions in the pool are just 30 minutes long –  but this is of course calibrated to the age of the patrons and seemed just right. The changing facilities are also spacious and well kept, albeit an overenthusiastic soap dispenser managed to disgorge its contents into my daughter's eye, leading to the sort of screams one might associate with an actual piratic encounter.

After leaving the pool, we headed up to the hotel’s mezzanine level for some light refreshments. While nothing special, it is all perfectly pleasant and the bar reasonably well stocked.

Legotopia discovered

With energy levels restored, we headed to a brand-new hotel facility – the sensory room. Spoiler alert but this is by a mile the best thing about the hotel and warrants the stay alone. There is no other way of describing it than ‘Legotopia’.

Girl with red hair and green dress, and baby play together

It was enjoyed as much by our [then] eight-month-old as it was by our six-year-old. And both my wife and I were mightily impressed too. We particularly liked the interactive tool that allows you build your own Lego creature and then watch it swim on a screen, committed, as far as we are aware, to Lego posterity. For a room teeming with boisterous tots, it felt incongruously mindful.

Girl looking at screen

The one 'bricking' point

An afternoon of swimming and brick building left us feeling peckish and so we headed to the hotel’s native Bricks restaurant which offers table service and an a la carte menu. To be blunt, what it doesn’t offer – at least if our meals were anything to go by –  is particularly tasty food. Perhaps this is to be expected but despite a wide-ranging menu, the quality was low. The same went for the breakfast offering which was also mediocre, though at least included in the price of the package, unlike the evening meal. My advice to Legoland would be to offer fewer options but make them better.

Yet the food really is the only slight wrinkle in the whole offering no one is going to a theme park hotel for its grub. I should add the caveat that there is another restaurant on the site – the Tournament Tavern –  which offers an enhanced dining experience.

Entertainment aplenty

Back to the entertainment and the resort’s evening offering is bound to delight any child - it certainly delighted our daughter. First she met a range of Lego characters before watching a magical story time and participating in a Master Builders show where she learnt how to make a Lego castle. A disco is the denouement but I confess we snuck off to our room before this got underway.

Our cabin for the night

So what does a luxury Pirate room at Legoland resort offer? Well a trove of delights, some quite literally found in a trove at the end of a fun treasure hunt set for all young guests, including, unsurprisingly, some brilliant packs of Lego.

Everyone loves a treasure map!

Block party!

The following day we entered the theme park full of excitement and anticipation. This review isn’t centred on the park but it warrants a brief nod as it is such good fun. Our favourite ride was the immersive Flight of the Sky Lion –  and the classic Legoland portion of the park has to be seen to believed. However, the greatest compliment we can pay the Legoland Adventure Resort Hotel is that it in no way played second fiddle to the theme park over the course of our two-day visit.

More information on short stays and packages at the theme park can be found on the  Legoland Adventure Resort Hotel website.
